Thank you. All right, good evening everybody and welcome to our May Board of Education meeting. Before we start, I just like to make a a little statement. On March 24th, a Miller Place eighth grader, Andrew Salgado, was involved in an accident and sadly on April 30th, he succumbed to his injuries. Tonight, we would like to ask that after the Pledge of Allegiance, if everybody would remain standing and observe a moment of silence for our neighbors who are grieving at this tragic time for Andrew and his family, that somehow they can find comfort in the support of their family, friends, and community. And with that, if you're able to, can everyone please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which
it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Okay, to start our meeting tonight, we have our high school mariachi band, which I'm so super excited about, directed by Miss Eileen Holmes, so please take it away. >> [music] >> Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, [singing] ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, Un par de ojitos [singing and music] negros, cielito lindo, de contrabando. 005carries. Item number Yes. Item number six, student representation. Dylan, take it away. Good evening, everybody. Over the past month, the Comsewogue community has continued to stay busy with many exciting accomplishments and events across the district. As of right now, several Comsewogue High School students currently have their artwork on display at the Comsewogue Public Library. It's visible in the Richard Lucy Community Room Gallery. And I encourage anybody to go look at it. Very talented. Um in addition, Comsewogue was once again recognized as one of the best communities for music education by the NAMM Foundation, marking the district's 10th consecutive year receiving this honor. Um at the at at the elementary school, um our Terryville students recently performed their rendition of Shrek Kids, which was a great success. So, it just showcases the talent of the young
students in our district. And then I'm going to let Dr. Heberer go into detail, but our Business Academy has done some amazing things recently. Um myself and Jace Moss were just recently in Atlanta at an international competition with over 26,000 people. Um and our virtual enterprise firm Tracer was just in New York City where they competed at the Youth Business Summit and wound up getting 13th place in the nation. So, huge congratulations um and thank you for representing Comsewogue at such a high level. Um with this being the last week of AP exams and students are starting to prepare for their regencies, school is beginning to wind down. So, um across the district, students are starting to prepare for the exciting events that come with the final week of school and we're all looking forward
to it. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Don. All right, item number seven, recognitions. Hi. I think thank you. Okay, I just wanted to recognize and thank Joan and Rich Nickerson and for donating and planting and caring for trees at Terryville Road Elementary School. So, they reached out and asked if it would be okay to just help um you know, make our school a better place and we do really appreciate you and appreciate you not only planting, but for caring for the trees and following up with us as well. So, thank you so much. And also just for everything else that you do throughout our community. You know, you're just always um those people, yeah, that when you need something you can count on so we really do appreciate you so thank you. >>
[applause] [applause] >> What kind of trees did you donate? It's uh three types. I'm just curious. Three different kinds. There's two red cedars. Crab apple of unknown origin just popped up on our property and they older magnolias. Color. Oh yeah and flowers. Yeah. Nice. Thank you. Congratulations Joan on your your senior year. Mr. Mosca I'm sorry Dr. Mosca. Good evening everyone and uh it's our honor to introduce to you our valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 26 uh class of 2026. Um we're going to start with our salutatorian uh Dylan Order. I know you don't have too far to walk. Come on down. >> [applause] >> So proud of this young man. He has uh grown before our eyes. We've really seen some tremendous things from him. Um on top of the fact that
he's got a GPA north of 103. I think it's high 103s. Um he is just pretty much everywhere in our building. He is uh the president of the class, the president of task. He's on basketball. He's on tennis. Close match today, man. I heard about it. You got this. It's all good. Um he's just he's he's a superstar. Uh we love having him around. I think you see the job that he does here uh in his role with the board of education. He's eloquent. He's kind. He is brilliant. Have a conversation with this guy and you know wow, the future is bright. Um he's off to Cornell, where he's going to be studying neuroscience. Um and you're going to hear all of the great business accolades that Dylan is going to receive in a little
while. So, you would think, "Oh, wow, he's going to go business." Nope, neuroscience. So, he's a jack of all trades. We're incredibly proud of him. He's going to represent Comsewogue really well. Let's give him a nice round of applause. >> [applause] [applause] >> Thank you for us your kids. And now we're great honor to introduce you to our valedictorian, Emery Kosak. Come on up, Emery. >> [applause] >> Another superstar, another person who you look at her resume and what she does and it's just wow. Um she is part of every single honor society I think that we have. She has a GPA north of 104. Um she is just again, everywhere you look in the building, she's there. She's always got a smile and she's always just you know, leading the way she leads. Um
when it comes to how well-rounded she is, wow, what a musician this young lady is. Uh All Eastern or Eastern State uh ACDA National Choir. Um she plays the harp. She just does everything. Um one moment that I'll never forget is last year she had to suddenly have not just one part in a play, but two, very last minute. And I was like, oh boy, this is going to be rough. She knocked it out of the park as you would expect from someone so incredible as her. Um she is off to the University of Rochester where she's going to be studying psychology and linguistics. And once again, she's going to represent Comsewogue really well. Congratulations, Emery. >> [applause] >> All right, Mom and Dad. I like the shirt. Breathe the fire. Yeah. >> [laughter] >>

Um How about the gold stars, Catherine? I would do gold next. Yeah. Is that in there? Yeah, it's right there. Okay, good. All right, our our next recognition is going to be for a student that earned the gold award, which is the highest achievement for the Girl Scouts. I would like to please welcome Hermione Granger. >> [applause] [applause] >> So, Hermione is definitely you know, she she's known for just all of her accolades at the high school. She's been recognized before for different things with the Board of Ed. You'll see her being called up here again just a short moment for being on one of
our C-suites at at at the virtual enterprise. So, Hermione did her gold award for uh W A um and um so essentially what she did is create a essential food, personal cares for our local veterans. Um she cares about her community. She cares about her school. Um so thank you, Herminie. >> [applause] [applause] >> Good evening, everyone. First, I want to say, you know, it's I'm new in the district, new AP here, but the bragging that I get to do by being a part of this high school has been top-notch for me uh so far. Just want to give a quick shout-out and congratulations to two of our BOCES students who competed in our SkillsUSA contest. Dominic Labella placing first for our audio production. So if we do ever have any tech issues, audio issues,
we know who we could call. There we go. Um and restaurant services, second place, Jayden Iglesias. So also, you can come cook for us and do our little sample testing. Um we're very proud of you. You are representing us so amazing. And Dominic is on his way to represent us, and he is competing in Atlanta. So congratulations, and we're super proud of you and super excited. Way to go, guys. >> [applause] >> Dr. Heber and business team. Ms. Katial, Mr. Parente, come on up. Um, sure. Here you go. All right. Um, I am very, very excited to uh to recognize these students up here. Um, these students competed in our DECA uh club this year. Uh, we were able to compete at regionals uh and then we were able to go to send a number
of students to states and these students all competed in states and some even went to internationals. We also have a DECA Honor Society, so we want to recognize these students for the wonderful things they do. I'm going to hand it over to our DECA advisor, Mr. uh Mr. Adam Parente. >> [applause] >> Uh, first I'd like to say a big thank you to the Board of Education and Administration for supporting our students with these endeavors, allowing them to travel to these conferences. Um, we travel out of state to the international level, so big shout out to you guys. We really appreciate it. Um, let me start with um our students who attended the state career conference. These students either qualified to attend through testing with rigorous hours of studying to achieve high levels and qualified
for the state conference. They wrote 20-page business plans or prepared 20-page presentations and through that was able to qualify at to attend the state conference. While at the state conference, they again participated in either another testing with a role play where they were given a business example and had to discuss how they would handle it uh in that situation. So, we'll start with Dylan Order. He did the quick service restaurant management series. James Moss participated in human resources management. James Lance and Brady Pesh, they completed the innovation plan. William Bellafiore and Robert Bianco for the startup business plan. Kevin Neilson and Ryan Otieno for the franchise business plan. Mark Peck for the independent business plan and Lauren Lipkin for the principles of hospitality and tourism series. >> [applause] [applause] >> All right. I got a
couple other quick DECA recognitions. So, next up was our New York DECA Honor Society members. Now, to become a member of the New York DECA Honor Society, this required students to be a member of DECA for 3 years, attend one state career conference, which was to again qualify for. And I'm proud to say that we had four students this year be able to be inducted into this Honor Society. In New York, there were over 12,000 students in DECA and we had four out of 200 students across the entire state induct inducted this year. Those students were Dylan Order, Jace Moss, James Lance, and Hannah Montoya. >> [applause] >> Yeah, and while I have Dylan and Jace up here, let me just give both of them major accolades for attending the International Career Development Conference in
Atlanta. Dylan was participating in the Quick Service Restaurant Management Series, and I'm proud to say today we just got his score back for his testing, which he scored a 98.6 on. >> [applause] >> This might be the highest score that DECA had he had all major uh points in all categories, so we're really proud of him. And Jace, he can finish the Aspire Series at DECA at the conference, so we're very proud of both of them. >> [sighs] >> All right, at this time I think we want to bring up our virtual enterprise students as well as Miss Katya. For Tracer. Okay. So, I just want to talk a little bit about Tracer. Virtual Enterprise is our class that is our capstone course for our comp swag business academy. Uh this course is probably the
most hands-on real world experience course in all of our curriculum. Uh students actually get to you can come up. You can come up. We're going to call you two. Um this course they actually get to they get to come up with an idea. They pitch a firm. Think of Shark Tank. It's like that. But they do that with thousand firms across the country. Um everything is real except the money and actually sometimes the product. But everything else they do a business plan. They do HR. They have payroll. They do all the aspects of it. This year we're so proud of our our firm Tracer. They finished 13th overall internationally. 13th out of over a thousand firms. That is incredible. So we want to recognize our our people from the firm. Um I'm going to give
this over to their VE teacher Miss Cat Y'all. Here you go. All right. Before we do that, I just want to say a huge congrats once again to them. For those who don't know, it's my first year with VE and I couldn't do it without them. So one more time for them. Appreciate you guys. >> [applause] >> Brady Paskin and James are not here tonight due to senior night lacrosse. But one more time for them. >> [applause] >> But a huge congrats to Hermine Ranger. And Alyssa Gnana. And Jay Smalls. You guys are awesome. >> [applause] >> Um what what did your company do? Yeah. Do you want to Do you want to tell them? You got it. You got You got the What company Elevator pitch. Go ahead. All right. So Tracer is a
AI powered sports company and basically we had an AI microchip in each of our sports balls that connected to a screenless wristband and that brought all your statistics back into an app to tell you exactly how to improve instead of just telling you it's like how to like what you're doing good. So it tell you how to improve better and it also helped you with college recruiting purposes and for injury uh prevention. >> [applause] >> I'll take a picture, of course. There we go. Hopefully this is Jace. There we go. Look at that. And also I want to give uh >> [applause] >> Thank you. Congratulations, guys. Good job. Good job. Congrats. I'll take that. Thanks. All right.
