Fire alarm proceeds in the air exit located at the left and right front. Please take a moment to power down electronic devices as they are distracting performers and other members on tonight's audience. Thank you for familiarizing yourself with the concert etiquette information located on the back cover of your program. Enjoy the performance. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Welcome members of the Canadequa City School District administration, faculty and staff, parents and family members and students. Welcome to CA's 2027 National Honor Society induction ceremony. I would like to introduce Trey Austin, Amelia Barry, and Sylvia Meek to lead us in the pledge
of allegiance this evening. Please stand. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Please be seated. We've gathered here to formally recognize students who have successfully completed their candidacy this spring and who are being inducted as new members of our NHS chapter. We are so proud to induct these new members of the class of 2027. Today's ceremony indicates the continuing emphasis on excellence that we represent here at CA. Throughout the year, members of our chapter serve as role models for our community. In addition to the strong academic records that establish their membership eligibility, our chapter members are leaders in many of the academyy's student organizations, activities, athletic teams, performing ensembles, and clubs.
We serve through partnerships with these groups as well as our initiatives such as ReadAcross America Week at the primary and elementary schools, the semianual American Red Cross Week, and uh VA's Winter Wonderland. I am proud of the accomplishments of our current members and welcome our new members who will bring their energy and ideas in support of our continuing efforts. Before beginning our program, I'd like to take a moment to recognize this year's executive committee who have demonstrated initiative, leadership, and diligence in the operations of the NHS this year. When your name is announced, please stand and remain standing. Our president JN Leanglu, our vice president Shirley Chen, our treasurer Jillian Bit, our secretary Taylor Zangi, our group service manager Joshua McKay, our independent service manager, Gloria McKelpin, and our public relations officer, Riley Salaza. Please
offer a round of applause and appreciation for our community. Over many years at CA, it has been the privilege of members of the National Honor Society to recognize a member of the Canadea Academy faculty who has demonstrated dedication to our school, excellence in teaching, and sincere commitments to our students. At this time, I'm inviting members Delaney Gallagher, Maya Henry, Brain Pace, and Miriam Triccomi to introduce this year's recipients. This year's NHS teacher of the year began teaching over 30 years ago and has taught every level of Spanish at the academy. Her passion for both Spanish and life is contagious and her care for her students is evident from the moment you step into her classroom. Throughout her career, she has taken on several roles and responsibilities as including as a tennis coach and as the
adviser of CA Spanish club. She has taken countless students on life-changing trips to Spanish speaking areas including Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica. her love the love for her that the love that her students hold for both her and her class is not the extent of her reach and she has made a name for herself as a treasured colleague and friend. Students also appreciate her knowledge as well as her willingness to step up and help reflected especially through her academic race in which she took subjects that many students struggle with or genuinely enjoy and create a supportive and engaging atmosphere where students can connect, learn, and have fun. While she teaches some of the most advanced language classes at the school, students still recognize her ability to create some of the best
experiences of their high school careers. Others noted that she helps us grow mentally and physically. Her infectious personality and desire to care for and have each of her students excel in her class are two of the core reasons many succeed with the permanence of her efforts. Consistently holding high expectations for her students as they rise to meet them. She thoroughly represents her love for her students in teaching through her actions of kindness, compassion, sincerity as she preserves to teach subjects that many refuse to for her students like culture, history, and modern-day political events in Spanish speaking countries. Students, co-workers, and family members value her positive energy, livelihood, and genuine love for her students. Not only is she influential in the classroom, she also carries her kindness, positivity, and ability to uplift people into the world
of sports. This year, she coached not only mod tennis, but also happily and willingly stepped up to fill in as the varsity coach when our coach was going through a health emergency. During this time, she not only helped us improve our skills as players, but took the time to always encourage us and said before every match, "I'd rather see you guys have fun and try than tear yourself down over fixable mistakes." Along with that, you can always catch her volunteering at events. I ran into her at one of my cheer comps, and despite not being one of her Spanish students, she still remembered me and took the time out of her day to catch up with me. Although all of these moments with her were brief, it was enough for her to make an impact
on me. She taught me to not to always try and even If it's not perfect, at least I gave it a shot and had fun. I'm so lucky to have gotten to know her this year, and I can't imagine the impact she has made on her students. Outside of teaching and being a coach, she is just as remarkable. She is an avid Bills fan, a diehard lover of Josh Allen, and a marathon runner. Additionally, she is a wonderful and devoted wife, friend, mother, and daughter. She never fails to attend her students sporting events, musical performances, and extracurricular activities whenever she can to demonstrate her genuine commitment to them. Always cheering the loudest in the audience. Her aspirations for all of her students to become more kto or culture and fully immersed in Spanish culture are
a reflection of her sincere love for teaching. The chills and goosebumps she gets when her students demonstrate their achievement in class depict the unwavering pride she takes in seeing us succeed. Each success is met with a and a high five of encouragement, furthering the fact that she is her student's number one supporter. >> Congratulations to the NHS teacher of the year, Nicole Asin. We would like to honor Miss Ain with a custommade laser engraved plaque and some flowers. Felicia D Sora. Oh boy, I guess it's my turn. Lot of speeches up here. Good evening. I would like to welcome all of those in attendance tonight to honor an amazing group of young people as they are inducted into the CA chapter of National Honor Society. I'm not sure how much time I have, but I
feel like this is going to be the Academy Awards and the music's going to come on at any minute and tell me I'm done. But I don't care because I'm never going to be here again, so I'm just gonna say it all. When I first heard that I had to give a speech, I was very nervous. And my son said, "Mom, just chat GPT in." And I thought about that and I debated, but then I realized I have to practice what I preach and I need to make this authentically me. So, here it goes. Lots of people that I would like to take a moment and thank. First, Mrs. Flick and the current members of National Honor Society and those being honored here tonight. Congratulations on the recognition of all your hard work and achievements.
As a former member of NHS and officer, I know how much hard work you have done and the sacrifices that you made to be here tonight. So again, congratulations to all the parents. Thank you for sharing your children with us every day, for entrusting us to educate them and prepare them for the next phase of their academic journey. We know they are a reflection of you and all that you have instilled in them. So, thank you for all that you do with with your kids. Um, to the our incredible administration, our superintendent, Mr. Far, who I know is not here tonight, but I wanted to take a moment to thank for all that he does for the students of Candidua. I've seen him at musicals, games, and even at this year's CA edition Amazing Race
finish line. To our building principal, Mrs. Lo, it is an honor to work for you and with you. From your very first year enth enthusiastically agreeing to be my murder victim and my who done it to always responding with Nicole, if I can make it happen, I will to all of my crazy ideas. To our assistant principles, Miss Burke, Mr. Jordan, Miss Shading, and Miss Maloney. Thank you for all that you do for the students of Canada. I said to both of my sons who are new educators to work for the best because then you will be in an environment to become the best. And boy do I work for the best of the best. Many people asked me if I knew that I was going to be teacher of the year. And I my
answer was an unequivocal no. In fact, when Mrs. Lo came on the announcements and started saying it's now time to announce the teacher of the year, I actually stopped listening. It was the last day of the marking period. I had students in my classroom trying to turn things in and I to be honest I was 100% sure it was not me. I had heard that announcement for years and it was never me. I actually made the joke with my colleagues always a bridesmaid never a bride. And I would like to say to them, my esteemed colleagues, the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the one who work tirelessly every day to bring all of these kids the best daily educational experiences they can. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I see you
and I thank you for inspiring me daily. And now I'm going to share some advice, things I wished I had heeded more when I was these guys age. And I'm going to sprinkle in a little bit of advice from some of those same sage colleagues I mentioned before. But in keeping with this authentically me speech, my students know I'm the queen of who can tell me for a bonus point. So I don't have bonus points to give everyone, but I have questions to make sure you're still listening. And I have candy that my husband told me to give out after and not throw it during. Um, so if anybody knows the answer to any of my questions, just shout it out and hit me up after and I'll give you your candy. Are we ready?
Find something that you're passionate about. They say if you find something you love to do, you'll never work a day in your life. You probably won't have the house on the lake, but you will be filled with purpose, and that is priceless. Make good decisions, both big and small. This advice goes far beyond don't drink, don't vape. When we share our weekend activities on Monday and a student says they went to a party, my follow-up question is always, oh, yay, buenes. And that means, did you make good decisions? And I hope that they did. But I also hope that you all know that decisions have consequences. Actions have real consequences. So weigh those consequences before you make the decision and act on it. There are new there are no doovers in life. But contrary to
what this lyrical legend suggests you do when she says should have said no. >> Hey I was praying somebody was going to get these. Contrary to her advice, Miss Matt Oolie says yes. Say yes to all that life offers you and all of the opportunities that are presented to you in life, even if they make you go out of your comfort zone. Remember, there's no doovers. But there are second chances. So give yourself grace and give others grace around you to fail as well. As the great Miss Mandarano wants you to know, failing is part of life. And if you aren't failing, then you aren't trying hard enough. But be present. Put your phones down. Life is happening around you. Engage with the people and the world around you. Those are the beautiful moments. I
was actually watching on Tik Tok that there was a study that I'm not supposed to say Tik Tok, but I did. That by the time we die, we will have wasted 7 to 10 years of our lives on our phones. Who can tell me what literary device I just used? I heard it where he >> What' you say? >> Anybody? >> She said hyperbole. >> Hyperbole. >> No, >> Miss Mrs. Click, where you at? >> Mrs. Teino. >> Irony. Good job. Very good. Irony. Surround yourself with people who lift you up. Don't change who you are to please others. We are all unique and amazing in our own way. Be authentically yourself. Don't spend time with people who do not value all that you are. It is important to like the people you are with,
but it's more important to like the person you are with when you're alone. Control only what you can control. Life's going to throw a lot at you, and how you respond to adversity will have a huge impact on how you see the world. You can't control everything. And I know that that makes a lot of you guys anxious and stressed. So find the tools necessary to handle that stress and realize if it's out of your control, there's nothing that you can do about it. Like Mr. Jeppi says, life's journey is never straight. It's going to have lots of twists and lots of turns, but the beauty is in the journey itself. That being said, if you can control it and you don't like it, change it. The world has enough critics and enough morning Monday
morning quarterbacks. Most of you don't know this, but I was saluted to my graduating class and I had to give a speech at graduation. And much of what I said in that speech is as fitting today as it was then. I talked about being the catalyst for the change that we want to see in the world. And I quoted a great pop singer who said, "In order to make that change, you must start with the man in the mirror. This one's harder. I also quoted a great French existentialist who believed that we create our own destiny and that we should not wait for our future define us, but that we should go forth and define our own future. Anybody? >> French existentialist. >> No. >> Wait, what? That's what's up, Walter. Yes, Mrs. Tiffany Walter.
She was my backup. I said, "If nobody says Sartra, yell out SRA." But yes. All right. We need to go out and create our own destiny. And finally, but most definitely my favorite, travel. As St. Augustine said, life is a book, and those who do not travel read only the first page. I show a movie every year in my IBB class where a historical Latin American figure travels all around South America on a motorcycle and my favorite quote is at the end of the movie he says yo soyo. What does that mean? >> I am no longer I. Exactly. Because who we are at the end of a journey is not the same person who began it. Travel changes us. It makes us more worldly. It helps us see the world through a different lens.
It makes us more tolerant for that which is different, but at the same time more appreciative of that which is home. And Miss Jafi wants you to know that success isn't just where you end. It's also remembering where you began and not forgetting your roots. One summer, I took a Costa I took a a exchange uh trip with CA students to Costa Rica and I told them that this experience is going to change them. It's going to give them memories that will last a lifetime. I told them to embrace the experience and make as many memories as they can. One night, I learned that they snuck out of their host homes with their host siblings and went to a dance club. And I went to find them. And I go in and I see one
of my students, our very own reading teachers, Mrs. Brown's daughter, Alex, who is currently a Spanish teacher right now, might I add, dancing rather intimately with a Costa Rican boy. And I went up to her and I said, "Alejandra, what are you doing?" And she looked me straight in the eyes. She goes, "I'm just doing what you said, Senor. I'm just making a memory." I said, "Touche, Alejandra, touch." Even this year, I received pictures from Julia Tricomy in Argentina, Lucy Lavla in Spain, Trip Tony in Puerto Rico, Rachel Bennett in New Zealand, and I know that even some members here tonight are embarking on a journey to Europe this summer. And one young lady is even starting a new chapter of her life in Chile in August. It makes my heart sing to know that
so many of my former students and current ones are traveling because I know they will forever be changed by those experiences. And finally, when I said my thank yous at the beginning of this speech, we're starting. I purposely left out the most important group to thank because I knew that if I did, I would not be able to get through the rest of the speech. But it's to all of you, the students. Thank you for allowing me to live my dream and thanking you for allowing me to never work a day in my life because I was living my passion. You are the sole reason that I do this. I knew this was going to happen. Just give me one second. I am as you are as much my teacher as I am yours. And
I learn something new every day. The relationships that we have created have filled my soul and have made me blessed beyond measure. Thank you for bestowing me this honor. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are. Much love. Now go out into the world and make a million memories. Thank you so much Nicole Aton for a great speech. Okay, so um at this time we're going to have our president come up and talk to you. President J. At it is at this time that we proclaim to all in attendance that membership in the Canada Academy chapter of the National Honor Society has been earned by these candidates through the effective demonstration of the four qualities that serve as standards for the society. Members of the chapter will now review these qualities
for the candidates. Shirley Chen will begin by speaking about scholarship. Scholarship denotes a committed commitment to learning. A student is willing to spend hours in reading and studying knowing these lasting benefits of a cultivated mind. We should continue to learn even when formal education has ended. For learning ends only with the end of life. Knowledge is one of one great element of in life in which leads to the highest success and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. Learning furnishes the lamp by which we read the past. The torch guiding us to understand the present and the light that illuminates the future. Candidates have the charge to continually expand their world through the opportunities inherent in scholarship. Julian Bit will now speak about service. Service can be established in the routine
of the day's work where many opportunities arise to help others both at school and in the community. A willingness to work for the benefit of those in need without monetary compensation and or public recognition is the quality we seek in our membership and promote for the entire student body. We are committed to volunteering our time and talents to create a stronger and more compassionate community. I now ask Gloria Mccelpen to speak about Leadership should exert a wholesome influence in the school. In taking initiative in the classroom and in school activities, the real leader strives to train and aid others to reach their common goals of success. The price of leadership is sacrifice, the willingness to yield one's personal interest for the interests of others. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward when others hesitate.
No matter what power and resources may exist in a school, community, or nation, they are ineffectual without the guidance of a wise leader. Leadership is always needed. Thus, to lead is a meaningful and substantive charge to each of our members. Our final pillar character will be addressed by Joshua McKay. Character is the force within the individual that distinguishes each person from others. It is that without which no one can respect oneself nor hope to attain the respect of others. It is this works of character that guides one through life and once developed grows steadily within character character is achieved and not received. It is the product of constant thought, action, and daily striving that to make the right choice, we must be in reality what we wish to appear to others, to be rather than
to seem. By demonstrating qualities such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship, we may hope to prove by example that we value character. At this time, will the new inductees please rise, raise your right hand, and repeat the pledge. The audience can follow the text as printed in your program. I pledge to uphold >> I pledge to uphold >> the high purpose of >> the National Honor Society >> to which I >> have been selected >> I will be >> true to the principles >> for which it stands >> and will maintain maintain >> and encourage >> high standards of >> scholarship, service, >> leadership and character. >> Thank you. You may be seated. And now, as your name is called, please step forward to receive your certificate. Amelia Aldridge, >> Logan Anacey Julia

And now, please welcome our principal, Mrs. Marissa Log, who will offer congratulatory remarks to the new members. Let's give these guys a round of applause. I just want to say congratulations one more time to this terrific group of students. Many people associate National Honors Society with just an excellent academic record. But it is so much more than that. As you learned
tonight, the National Honor Society is about being a leader, having strong character, and giving back to our community. It takes special people to achieve greatness in all of these pillars. and we're so lucky to have so many of them here right on this stage. I'm encou I'm going to encourage each and every one of you to continue to represent Kandagua with pride. Continue to be leaders. Continue to volunteer your time to our community and don't forget to keep your grades up. Always remember, you can't do this without your support team that's sitting in the audience right now. So, make sure you say thank you to them tonight. Congratulations. Thank you all for attending our NHS induct induction ceremony. Please join us for the reception in their honor. I'm dead.
