Sam, how about you start? >> Yes. >> Um, >> talk a little bit about how you guys play together. >> The teamwork is very good. >> Mhm. >> So, how does it work? [snorts] >> You guys have to do what to each other like me. >> There are um specific positions that we play. We take turns playing each position. >> What are the positions? >> Uh I uh the positions is goalie, offense, and defense. Uh in Rocket League, which is the conversation, uh we there's rule of thumb whenever you're playing with ranked modes or playing tournaments or whatnot. Leftmost goes for the ball. rightmost it helps but doesn't necessarily interfere with the first person and the farthest back is always goalie. So what I've done as the oldest in the team ha I have made
it where leftmost do goes shoots rightmost goes uh offense no sorry defense I've never played sorry uh defense which if you don't know is just like half in your half the court and the first back is bowling and I don't know what kind of luck this is but our third teammate James, who isn't here today cuz he's sick, always got goldie. Always. He was funny. But, uh, there has been significant improvement from when I first started playing with Sam and James. And I am happy to say I won the tournament. Uh, first time winning a tournament. So, >> very nice. >> Very happy. Um, and I hope that I can get them better along with myself >> and that my friend who does not live here can help me James and Sam get even better.
>> Okay. >> Uh, there, like I said, there have been many improvements and I want I can't wait to see where this ends up. So even though that you guys won, [clears throat] there's still room >> to get better, huh? >> Definitely. >> Excellent. So what's next for you guys? >> So we actually part of Friday Morning Lights, we were able to have an interview with our Smash Bros. team who was ranked number two in the country at that point. >> They did get upset in the playoffs. That does happen. [snorts] Cinderella ended up coming through and beating us. So we actually did get invited by Syracuse University to come up and tour their facilities. They also wanted to talk a little bit about scholarship opportunities for not only these students but our Smash students,
our Marvel Rival students, Fortnite students, the works. So, it's very exciting to be able to have a school like Syracuse that is the level of prestige that it is to have something like Canesa be able to go up and check that out. Okay. >> So, we're very excited for that. We've also had Udica University reach out to us and we've had conversations with Herkimer College as well. >> So, you guys are getting pretty famous, huh? [laughter] but surely it's a work in progress. Esports is in general is is now classified as an Olympic sport which is nice. As of I believe 2027 it'll be the Olympics and in general it has been getting uh not nowhere as close as football or soccer but it's been getting more and more popularity. Good. more and more people
have been especially gamers have been jumping to watching esports and beating tournaments and stuff to not only for themselves but because they're happy to see they're happy to play games and they want to see where the gaming community and the esports community goes in the future. >> Awesome. Very good. >> And this was a big step towards the goal was to qualify right for a national >> championship. So what would what is that? There's a couple. >> So, how it works, like like you had mentioned, it was Q1. So, there's four different quarters and four different splits is what they're called. So, we have four different four-week trial runs to get things ready. Then, we'd have playoffs at the end of every four weeks. How it works is they all rack up points. So, they
earned a ton of points winning that Q1 championship. If they were to continue to have that success throughout the course of the season, we do have a playoff in person in Texas is where it's slated to be. So if they continue to have that success, they'll be part of those teams being able to go to Texas. >> Awesome. >> First time going >> Texas. [laughter] >> Well, very nice guy. Congratulations. >> We're proud of you guys. Um, keep up the good work. All right. And and be sure to come back and let us know how it's going for you. Okay. >> So, CONGRATULATIONS. [applause] >> We'll get there. Okay. Uh, building updates. >> Who we going with? Okay. What's up, Jenny? >> Good evening, everybody. I have some updates for you from Peterborough Street. Today
is day 42 of school, which is a little bit wild. already into November here, but we are happy to be seeing and celebrating so much great growth looking at beginning of the year data at Peter Street. Uh kindergarteners are making huge gains with letter identification, number identification, and counting. And our first and second graders, uh especially who attended our lead program this summer, are really putting skills together, and we're seeing improvement in our OF data and site word data, comparing that to last year. And um and our AIS students are super excited. They are returning uh completed booklogs already this fall and are really excited because they get to select new books as prizes. They get a bookmark, their picture taken um and a new book for their libraries at home. So, uh it's really
neat to see everybody back in into the groove already. Um today and tomorrow we are enjoying Pedro the Penguin um and our partnership with connected and the Red Cross. Um, so it's a continuation of fire safety uh discussions and practice as part of our connected classroom programming. So big shout out to Mr. Will uh and our friends at the Red Cross for making that happen. Makes it very real for the kids and a nice continuation of what our local PB did in classrooms for us in October uh during fire safety week. Some other highlights by grade level. Um, PreK is working on an all about me unit, measurement and patterns, and they are doing daily heardy lessons this year, which is really exciting. So, that is rhyming and beginning and ending sounds right now. So,
supporting all of the um science of reading and that he uh and phonics based learning that we're doing in all of our other classrooms, too. So, it's great that we can start them even younger and they're picking up on it quickly. Kindergarten had a great field trip to Gallup's our farm last month. Um they're learning about being responsible citizens, one more and one less, tapping and blending. Um and studying folktales right now in our knowledge unit. Uh first grade's got a lot going on with counting on and uh fall themed uh addition activities. And they just finished a unit on um Egypt and loved learning about hieroglyphics and how to draw their names like Egyptians. uh science they're working on observing and investigating. So, some big stuff there, too. Second grade is impressing me with
their knowledge of place value right out of the gate. Uh and knowing the difference between hundreds, tens, and ones. Um they just finished studying leaves and the effect that weather and temperature have on them. Uh and they did some fun things making predictions as to how different temperatures would affect the leaves and then conducted experiments. So, um to see how they changed. So, um we're celebrating veterans and uh in our lives and in our families on Friday with a special assembly. Um we've got a bulletin board and some special cards and some teaching that we'll do on Friday. And we're having a spirit day Monday uh to celebrate veterans, too. And we will also be celebrating World Kindness Day next week. That's on Thursday. Kindergarten's planning ahead for our holiday concert that will be at
St. Agatha's this year for the first time with the construction in the auditorium. Um we are working um with Scott Rapasadi over there. So we're excited about that and we'll send out a blast to remind parents to sign up for conferences which will come up uh the blast goes out tomorrow and those are later this month. So, we're looking forward to a really good turnout and getting parents in the building to have some great face-to-face conversations with staff. >> Thank you. >> Um, Mr. Stagnant actually left us with a few items. If you don't mind, I'll speak on his behalf and on Miss Burn's behalf. Would it be okay if I just stay here or Yes. >> Okay. Um so um he left me quite a few but you know I've been in and out
of the building so I do want to um note uh just a couple of of key items. Our teachers in the third and fourth grades have been meeting with Ellen actually last week and then tomorrow and Thursday this week we'll be meeting with Wendy Satchel to review last year's state assessment data, you know, for ELA and for math and uh really kind of digging into analyze the results and make some formative decisions on on their instruction for this year. So, that's been going really well and looking forward to seeing how that turns out for our math teachers this this week. Um there was a recent assembly I believe today a PBIS assembly recognizing of course um character traits and student attendance uh positive attendance. Um the ABC program I believe is a program that we
are uh connected with the transportation department, right? Um Miss Carneahan would know a little bit more [clears throat] about that, but it's really um a program where each week the bus drivers are uh kind of evaluating their bus route and you know um giving a score, right? giving a score on how um safe, respectful, and um responsible the students are on the bus. And in both buildings, Peterborough and Southside, they're keeping track of that. And I've been in and out kind of here and there, and it's really neat to see the kids come in on Mondays because the data gets, you know, put up there and there. That's all they're talking about is who they can what bus route they can, you know, beat and who's on top and what they need to do to
get on top. So that it is I think it is spurring some some nice competition there. Um otherwise just in general we had our uh first lockdown drill across the district and that was pretty successful. We um as a team as an administrative team and and office assistants we all met to to do a debrief on that. So um that went well. Okay Mr. Kurp, it's all you. >> How are you? Good. >> So, at Robert Street right now, our attendance is at about 94%. We have eighth grade coming in at the highest with 95 and a half%. Seventh grade is falling behind with the lowest at 93. We're right now working. I'd like to see all of that above 96% for the for the building. Um, every Friday we have attendance letters going home
for students with five or more absences. Uh, I'm currently in the process of conducting attendance hearings for any students who have 15 or more. Currently, we've had four of those that have been scheduled already. Um, once students hit 10 absences, I have guidance counselors going out and doing home visits um, and trying to encourage students to get to school. Uh we also have our teachers um doing intervention phone calls once students are starting to see once they're starting to see a pattern with students. They're making that first phone call home trying to encourage students, you know, inform them of what's going on, trying to be that friendly phone call um before it gets to us as administration. Um also working on trying to improve late arrivals. Uh right now I've had nine meetings scheduled with
parents to try to encourage students to come to school on time. As far as, you know, some student engagement, as you all know, we just opened the new cafeteria earlier last month. Uh we just did a student survey on their on some feedback for them. So, if you want to take a look at that, um we've had 87% of students say that they really like the new cafeteria and have provided positive feedback. Some of the specific things are they they like that we've moved to seats at the tables instead of benches. uh they like the bright colors that have been incorporated into the space. 75% of the students said it's now easier to move around. 56% of students say they like the new serving lines over the old ones. [snorts] Out of the students who
have used the new salad bar, they all seem to really like it. Of course, they all have recommendations on what we can add to it to make it better. Um >> Sour Patch Kids. We've also done some live interviews with the students on that. So, you should be seeing those posted on Facebook in the near future. Uh [clears throat] we're using all the high top seating in the cafeteria as incentive seating. So, we have rewards coupons that were passed out to the teachers. If they see students repeatedly going above and beyond, um they can hand those out and students can pick a friend to come sit with them at the the high top tables or on the outside of the cafeteria. It's also being incorporated in as part of our student of the month incentives.
Right now teachers are completing their data analysis and their goal setting. They should be finished with that the end of next week. We were also selected to participate in the NAPE testing in the field of civics and US history. That should be taking place sometime in January with about 50 to 60 eighth graders selected by the state. We're also going to be conducting our teen assessment project survey, the TAP survey for the county on November 19th, which will consist of seventh and eighth grade students. In terms of, you know, some support, I'm working with connected to try to bring um get some information on their resiliency program to help support students with attendance. Uh so I have a meeting scheduled for later this month to get more information on how that can benefit our our
students. Uh connected is also bringing in a homework diner that I know they've spoke with uh Mrs. Leon about. Uh that's going to begin in early December. The the idea of that is to uh have students stay after for not only academic support but social support as well. um and you know be able to to feed them for students that might need that as well. We also had Boseies in last month to complete presentations on anti-bullying. We had two different assemblies on that and I think that went pretty well for the month of October. Our discipline referrals are at about 66. The most frequent offenses that we're seeing are inappropriate behavior, uh, misuse of school technology, and the possession of cell phones. We've had seven new incidents, and one repeat offense with that. Our grade
level teams are currently working during their team meetings to discuss interventions and strategies to improve some of the behaviors that they're seeing in class to help bring down some of the classroom referrals. for upcoming events. On the 13th, we have the National Junior Honor Society induction. There's 23 students that are being inducted into that. 19 eighth graders and four 9th graders. Uh we have parent teacher conferences coming up. And I'd also like to invite you all to um come out and watch our students in their drama club production for Snow White on the 21st and 22nd. That's at 8:00 p.m. at Rollwood Middle School in Fateville. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Um so much of my the beginning part of my tenure here, um I'm very much focused on structures for the high school,
reestablishing certain things that needed to be reestablished. So when we look at attendance, um we're running uh 92.71 in the month of October. That is just that month of October. um right about baseline from the month before. So it's kind of staying uh consistent for now. Uh much like Andrew attendance hearings regularly scheduled. These are things where we set the tone for those. When those go out, those actually have the actual time for the hearing. Uh kind of put that responsibility layer on there of, hey, now you have an appointment with me. Come in. Let's talk. And those hearings aren't just about, hey, get your kid to school. Well, they are what can we do to help you get your kid to school? So, [snorts] um you know, Andrew had mentioned the resiliency program. Both
him and I had discovered this. This was being run at another school in the district. Uh the resiliency program um is basically a step before a school would get CPS involved. So, it's an additional line of support for families. Um, you know, we have many a situation in our high school right now where I truly believe that the parent is doing everything in their power and we've got we've got some families doing pins diversions. We, you know, we have a couple of families looking to push into homeschooling. So, it's the attendance is a constant everyday everything you can throw at it type of situation. And I don't think in our day and age it's ever going to be anything but. Um so really it's all about staying and keeping that focus on that and uh
that's pretty consistent in terms of student engagement. Um similar to some of the breakdowns you hear from the other uh the other buildings uh teachers are working and going through regions results and doing what's called an item analysis. So breakdown where did we fall down last year so I don't fall again that in that very same area as we go into the new year. Um, as we wrap up the first quarter, and this is something that's very important to me, have me review academic progress of all 300 plus kids who are in the building and have some one-on-one conversations with those kids who are struggling. What do you need? What do we need to put in place with you, coordinating that with families and then is a typical practice for me, there are scheduled one-on-one
meetings with all the teachers. What are you seeing in your classroom? What do you need? What's the goal moving forward? having those constant support but accountability conversations of you know what are you seeing what do what hurdles do I need to remove to get out of your way to hit success um my principal's cabinet continues to do work we just wrapped up the student climate survey last Friday um I would love to share some data when I can get the qualitative end all coded out because those open-ended are just as important as all those quantitative numbers Um what the cabinet is doing and actually did in this room on Monday was going through the data by themselves and establishing their top three priorities as a cabinet. Zero guidance from me other than say pick three.
So part of my cabinet was in student government which I was over with that lovely group as well. So I'm waiting to get the whole cabinet to factor in that. So next week when we meet, we start building an action plan from the student perspective. How do we take 200 almost 200 voices who responded to that? How do we make real change to combat some of those feelings and some of those perceptions that were in the survey? Some of the things that are going to go to go live next quarter as a result of the cabinet positive point system. Um uh Ellen I know runs the Canota Cup. I'm going to bring a version of that to the high school. Some kids are excited about a friendly competition on who's the best grade. [snorts] Um,
anonymous reporting form for bullying and harassment situations. Um, while I know we have a tip line on our website that's not really studentfriendly, I have a Google classroom full of all 300 plus kids in this building. them being able to link that and even if it's a situation where they don't give me their name and they could turn us to possibly to a possible victim, we can keep an eye on we can ask teachers keep an eye on. So we continue to pro that safety and I'll also help the attendance. So it's a big, you know, it's all on different levels. Um some changes with input from both the cabinet and staff on quarterly awards. This is going to go out on parent square just so that everybody we're going to keep the main stays
honor roll. These are the 84.5 to 89.5. These are our standard pieces. We're going to add a level above high honor role. These are for the kids who kind of feel like they're like these are the kids are really knocking it out of the park. And that's going to be called the principal's list. There's a reason I chose it. The verbiage flies into what we look for at deeds list, right? So, like when kids go out there and they put applications in, they can now say, "I was on the principal's list for eight straight quarters." In addition, another layer um to recognize some other kids. This is called the on a roll award. Yes, I'm a dad and I love dad jokes. Okay, so the on a roll award is going to be it's going
to encompass a few different things. One of the things in my conversation with my building planning team in the cabinet is what about the kid who comes in this building each and every day and works their tail off, but they plateau at a 70 or a 75 and they're going to work their tail off every quarter and it's going to be about the same thing. They might not hit the threshold for most improved, but man, does they do a lot to get that. Where is their recognition? Where are we putting them to where they're being seen? So, a little bit on both ends, guys. Um, in the end, I want I want standards raised. You know, I want to be able to recognize kids who are doing the right thing as well as reward those
kids who are just doing amazing things in all facets. We've started the seal of civic readiness. Um, I, you know, I'll try to give a quick little summary of what this is. As New York State looks to go to one potentially, you never know where it's going to pivot of one diploma type, one of the differentiation from one diploma to another are high school seals. There's two current programs right now, the seal of civic readiness and the seal of biiteracy. The nice thing about the seal of civic readiness is if you have a district like ours that already has a culture of service in it, [snorts] okay, part of your battle has already been taken care of. kids putting in community service hours, kid giving back to the town of Canesa. You make some tweaks
to your curriculum and then you're awarding this to kids every year. Okay. The nice thing is accountab account accountability measures from New York State. You basically get extra credit with these seals based on how many number that you give off. So it checks a lot of things and it shows our commitment to graduating kids who are aren't just good at what they do in the classroom but are let ready to go out into the world and be a a productive citizen. Um my hope is and I stress the word to the to the board [snorts] is hope that I might be able to put some seals on this year. Worst case scenario it's a fully functioning program launching next year. Okay. um discipline uh total October 142 historically that's about where this this building hits
but some of the breakdowns I think are important uh cell phone incidents are down by 12 [snorts] um I think a lot of kids after all those follow-throughs and those steps are getting the picture like we see it you're in trouble uh I do a lot of focus on both the tardy to school as well as what inside that number what are the classroom incidents Okay. What is the behavior that may be impeding instruction? We're down eight compared to last month in in the classroom behavior. Um so that's also important. Grade level teams continue to work putting those interventions into place. Um some of what I would consider coming soon like the movies. Um peer tutoring. Uh as you all well know we have a functioning advisory uh advisory. I've used this in the past.
It's called the learning hub. And in a perfect world, what I look for is an adult or two to supervise the room. And then high-flying kids who are good at at least one thing, whether it be a subject or organization or helping a kid just be a mentor, which we're going to work with community schools. They already have that program and a one-stop shop because often we have teachers who are managing a full advisory group already. And some of our kids will accept much better help from a peer than they will an adult. So imagine just be a kid being able to walk in a room and seeing social studies, English, you know, science in a room. And it builds back that community service element of the school as well. And that is it. Oh,
upcoming. As everyone will know, I heard nothing but good things. We have alumni day around the corner. Um public public announcements will be on the way. Thank you. >> Thank you. Okay. All right. [clears throat] Uh, old business. Resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board does hereby accept the highlighted changes as required by New York State to the previously approved districtwide safety plan that was approved on August 12th, 2025. This will be posted for a 30-day public comment period ending on December 5th, 2025. Do I have a motion? >> Some moved. >> Second. >> And all those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carried. [clears throat] New business. Uh let's see. Resolve that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board does hereby approve the following new business items.
Memorandum of agreement with CSEA in the district for the period from July 1st, 2022 to June 30th, 2026. Contract, excuse me, [clears throat] for health and welfare services with Jamesville Dwit C Central School District for the 2024 2025 school year. Service contract with day automation for the two 2025 2026 school year and the 2025 tax collector summary. Do I have a motion? >> Some moved. >> Second. All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carried. A student board member update. Mr. Dwire, you're on. >> Let me go up there. >> Wherever you're comfortable. >> I'll stay here then. Um uh we're looking at three main things right now. Uh the first one is we sent out a survey to all the students asking if they would like a like us to look into a new mascot.
Um, we have about 110ish submissions so far. We're probably going to leave it open for another week to see if uh we can get some more students interested in that. I think right now we're at about a 90% yes and about a 10% no. Um, and then once we do get the results from that, we'll look into re uh reming with the committee from the last years about the next following steps. Um, the other thing we were looking at is we're trying to get a head a head start on the uh community service awards we did the past few years. Um, I think the past few years we would haven't really had time to get as many submissions as we wanted. So, we're hoping that if we can start a little earlier, we can get
more submissions in the uh than the past years. >> And the [clears throat] last thing is we were talking about a schoolwide spirit week. We thought this would be special for especially families that have kids in both the high school and uh middle schools because they're uh they have kids both and having a spirit week with all of them. Um Mr. Carter said he had talked about this with a couple of the other principles before. So we're just going to look on see if we can get a head start before the next beer week to try to get the whole school in it. >> That's it. >> Thank you. Okay. Committee reports. Um I I'll start with the uh facility com facilities committee meeting we had [clears throat] excuse me October 23rd. Um it was
largely a review of the capital improvement pro progress. U do inspection was postponed. Um, we need apparently there were some high-pressure gas regulators that needed to re be replaced or swapped out in the in the middle school cafeteria. They've since been replaced and I assume the new inspection is forthcoming. >> It It's actually been uh done completed and we got a thumbs up. So, it was good to get that done. Uh, let's see. The new um middle school guidance area uh has been to turned over and is fully functional and it is gorgeous. Um let's see uh there was just discussion or you know information about the plans previous plans to demo the outside cooler building. They've been changed. Um, it's as I guess it was decided that that with materials coming in for the
auditorium work that would be a perfect place to store them to keep them out of the out of the elements. So, the demo of the cooler building will now be in the spring. Um, kind of a a more refined schedule of work for the remaining areas in the high school. And I think as we speak right now, the art room is being framed, duct works being installed, uh the fitness room toilet in the high school cafeteria, I believe, are next on the list to to begin. And um the school district will be um leasing new uh a new piece of equipment for snow removal. That'll make the process a heck of a lot easier. [snorts] Next meeting is scheduled for November 13th. Okay. All right. Uh finance Mark is not here. >> Scott, you were
or No, you weren't. Were you there? Did you? And >> we didn't have a meeting since the last meeting when we had the audit. Okay. >> Report. We had the the committee met right before. >> Right. the board meeting [snorts] for the U and and then the audit report itself. Okay. >> Explain why I didn't remember that meeting. I was like [laughter] I can't have forgotten the look on your face though. >> I didn't do my homework. >> Uh policy >> policy meeting needed to be rescheduled. So we hope to have an update for our next board meeting. >> Academic uh we met today. Um couple items we talked about. Uh we're still waiting from the state for guidance with regard to portrait of a graduate to really uh make some headway in implementing changes
with that. Um we are establishing uh a subcommittee with the district cabinet to develop uh an alternative to retention plan exploring expanded use of resources and then new partnerships and opportunities. Um support those struggling kids instead of just keeping them back another year and another year and then they never graduate, you know. Um we reviewed the results of the October staff survey of professional development interests that are informing upcoming PD offerings. For example, with regard to EXL, we're also encouraging teacher-led mini workshops for peers to share their expertise with one another. Um there was also some interest in vertical alignment work with regard to uh grades four through five, just helping with that transition and uh in culture among other things. Um some talk about student orientation options with that. And we reviewed the uh
items the FAC has been looking at. Um the student or the staff handbook is still a work in progress, improving every day. Um talked about the attendance issues still between different grade levels. Um talked about how we're looking at utilizing connected community schools. Um we already have some features that uh we paid for that maybe we could utilize a little bit better as well as their resiliency program, how that links into AIS and uh the retention issue. Um they're looking at compiling a committee list of the different district committees we have along with a membership roster to kind of make it easier for staff members to get involved and know who to bring ideas and concerns to. And uh there was some talk about reinvesting or uh investing and re-upping our mental health first aid
workshop training. Next meeting is going to be December 15th. >> All right. and uh safety you guys >> we met on the 15th of October. So we met we had Patty Serio there from OM safety to give us an update. There is um sudden cardiac arrest training that um staff and students will need to do um needs to be completed by January of 2026. It's contains of a video about 13 15 minutes. They're going to make sure the video is age appropriate for our younger students to watch. Um we had to include in our district-wide um Y safety plan um an updated um sudden cardiac arrest plan to be included in that which we will have posted so we can approve. Um we also talked about um the secure lockdown plan. They went through our
folders and each building to make sure they're current and up to date. Um, there was new updated orange cards and posters that were also supplied to the district to make sure they're in place before they did their first lockdown drill, which we already had. Um, there's other drills going to be scheduled um throughout the course of the school year, fire drills, lockdown, and evacuation via bus, and they'll have to briefing after each to see how those went. Um, they did have a faculty meeting in October to kind of prepare for the first lockdown drill back in October. There's also uh new mandated reporter training since they the one they did last year. There'll be a refresher for people who already taken it and for those who are new that will need to have the two-hour
course. Um we didn't have our SRO's there because they were doing bus duty that day. We did have a nurse update report they were seeing um back in October some handful of strep um viral respiratory infections GI and some COVID. We kind of discussed a little bit about the capital project update which you already kind of addressed already in your facilities updates and that's about everything else we covered and our next meeting is in December 11th. >> Very good. >> All right. Uh board comment period. Anybody? Scott event I attended was uh Miss Kovven's birthday because it's tonight [laughter] if you want >> happy to spend it with everyone. >> Okay. Uh superintendent report. >> All right. I'd like to wish a happy birthday. No, we >> [laughter] >> um follow up though because a
lot of what's going on was tied to our our facilities update. So, just a couple of uh some things have been mentioned. Um things are moving along nicely. It was a big deal for a few reasons to be able to get that certification that Mr. uh Owens was referring to for the Robert Street cafeteria because while we've been having students been able to eat, we've been having the serving lines operational, eating in the Robert Street cafeteria, but now the kitchen's been cleared for fully for, you know, to to do all the cooking in there. There was, you know, food being moved around, uh, you know, to to make that happen before. There's a ripple effect to to that. For example, we want to get into the work at the high school cafeteria pretty soon. And
so, right now, um, we're looking at a start date of just 1st of December. So, we're only a few weeks away. And then that area will be under construction and we'll be shifting to the tunnel and uh, again, even sort of reverting to our co days when we had to be a little creative except now we don't have to be so far apart. But um so that's next on the on the agenda, but it was good to get that that um inspection finalized. Um auditorium, as we've discussed a number of times, a long that's a long-term project. We're still uh having June is really the the time that we're hoping we can be in there. Work is uh is happening and it's but it's going to be uh moving fairly slowly. We've had to make
some adjustments. um different events um you know present different challenges as far as you know what the type of capacity we need and uh Mrs. Carneahan had already had talked about the fact that um you know we're we're being creative with with the locations. We're finding the fall play. It's going to be at Wellwood Middle School in the FM district uh which my understanding is that has a capacity of about 500. So it's it's you know definitely adequate for to being able to put on that performance. So um we'll be continuing as the year unfolds. Some some of the venues have already been determined. Some are still a work in progress depending on the dates and and the different factors involved with some of the the um the events for the year. So u but
that was good news that we had a found a good landing spot um for the kids for their performance. Uh art rooms are uh moving along as well. The framing is uh is occurring now and mechanical uh and electrical work and plumbing is is uh is underway and the fitness room uh is is scheduled uh to begin work to begin next week. So there is going to be some uh shortterm um there's going to be some inconveniences potentially in in that area but nothing of of long-term disruption. But again, good to see so much work happening and so much good progress happening u as the district gets an update and really appreciate everybody's patience with it too because you know it's it's difficult. So from our supervisors, our teachers, our maintenance and custodians and everybody
u and you know it's it's not easy but it'll be worth it when we get um when we complete the project. Um looking forward again to our second athletic advisory council this Thursday. Uh first meeting was very productive. We had good representation from um the various community partners who work with us and and uh and again the intention of this is to not only support obviously we have an interest in our school athletic programs but also any of the partner groups from um from uh the village of Canesa and and the various youth uh leagues and associations that partner with the school and certainly that our students participate in or our future students will are or in some cases is participating in so looking forward to that next session uh this Thursday. [snorts] Um want
to really want to congratulate uh an October 18th the most recent uh since our last board meeting recent induction class of the Canes Stood Wall of Distinction. Um, I think it's important for us to to recognize people from Canesa who have attended our schools who who've done some uh really impressive things and uh many of those people have done a lot of really great things right in this community and have done it for for decades. And so uh congratulations to our new class. I know um if it hasn't already up, it's going to be up shortly uh the updates both on our our display u and our website and u you know just again congratulations to all those those people. It was it was a nice uh event and a very positive thing and you
know to to be a part of. Um, and speaking of events that we're really again positive and proud to be a part of, uh, just wanted to make sure you got your invitation. I talked earlier today with Mrs. Garop and there's a really uh, important event I think coming up on December 12th. Uh I mentioned it I believe in last month's update, but Canota for the very first time and my understanding is we're going to be the first uh place in Madison County uh that's going to be hosting a wreaths across America ceremony which um again there's more information for um people want to check it out but uh the the short version is it's a it's an opportunity to both educate students about the importance of the service of our veterans, but also a
chance to uh to honor them with the laying of a wreath. Um it's a really cool ceremony. It's one of the most uh classy and ceremonies I've ever seen, having seen this a number of times. Um and so I think um if you can uh be a part of that on December 12th, there'll be a that's a Friday. There'll be a ceremony at the school. Unfortunately, we can't use the auditorium, but we'll make it work and we'll make it a great event. And then there's also going to be more information come um uh there'll be a ceremony at Clark Park on the next day on Saturday. So, there'll be really a couple of different parts with the school ceremony and then u another community ceremony the next day. So, really looking forward to to that.
really want to highlight also the fact that it's really gonna for uh much of this is is going to be studentled. Uh students are really going to be doing a lot of the work the planning the presentation of of that of that assembly that we have at school. And uh just a final mention of things that are on the the horizon because it has been talked about quite a bit in the media. we continue to um to uh prepare I guess for the portrait of a graduate roll out. But as we've said um in many discussions we've been having around the school. While we appreciate the opportunity to be creative and innovative in the way that we educate kids and really engage students in in positive learning, um we're still in that that spot where
we're waiting for more information, more clarity um as far as how much leeway do we have to be creative with addressing standards and getting kids to graduation. So, uh Mr. Carter had referenced um for example the seal of civic readiness. That's an example of of something that gives you know we're being creative. Only about my understanding is probably a quarter or to a third uh of districts in the state actually have that designation. So our approach is we can do good things now. We know that within our existing format of of what we have available, we can do good things. At some point, some of these creative avenues of learning like our credentiing programs, they might actually be able to check the boxes towards graduation where now they're things that make sense and are interesting
and a valuable learning experience. At some point it might actually check off um a requirement or or or a a uh demonstration of proficiency in meeting certain learning standards um in a way that baby is not available to kids now. So we're looking forward to that. That's what I have. >> Okay. Uh personnel recommendations. All appointments are pending clearance on fingerprinting retirements and resignations.
