00114th regular meeting of the Kansas Board of Education. I'd like to call this meeting to order. If everybody would please rise for the pledge >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Before we get into routine matters, uh, I will entertain a motion to enter into brief executive session to discuss matters leading to the employment of an individual. Do I have a motion? >> I'll make that motion. >> Do I have a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I opposed. Motion carried. Um, we will now enter into executive session. We do plan to return as soon as possible. Uh moving on to routine session. >> Oh um >>

002oh do I have a motion to convene >> uh regular session? >> Yes. >> Do I have a motion? >> I'll make that >> second. >> All those in favor? opposed. Motion carried. Okay. Now we can start uh routine matters. Resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board does hereby approve the following routine matters. Board of education minutes for September 9th and September 30th, 2025. Treasurer's report June 2025, July 2025, and August 2025. And the CSC recommendations as listed on the agenda. Uh do I have a motion? >> I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I opposed. >> Motion carried. >> Okay. Presentations. Slight change from the agenda. We are going to start with um our friends from Darcangelo & Company. Uh Lenny um is going

003to uh speak to the external audit report. >> Okay. >> Good evening everybody. Um, thank you for having us. What I have in front is two green packets. I'm going to pretty much stick to the inside the thick packet is a an executive summary that looks like this. So, we'll we'll just go that we we just went in detail with the the audit committee um going over the the audit process. So, I'm going to kind of give you like a bird's eye view. the whole 2-hour presentation that we did to the audit committee. Um, so we start our process in in uh in the spring and we come in, we go over the internal controls. We try to do our own risk assessment as far as procedures. We go over accounts payable, dispersements and that

004type of thing. We look at the use of reserves and we important policies and that type of thing. Um so you know with that and then we do our own risk assessment figure out what we're going to do at the year end where we're going to spend more time which which federal program we're going to audit um that type of thing. Um you know first of all I should thank Tracy and the the Bose staff and all the staff for helping us. we didn't have any issues receiving anything that we requested. Um so it it the audit went pretty well. Um there is one thing in the audit report that we'll we'll look at is the uh the u we can't issue a single audit right now because even though we've done all the part

005we're waiting out the uh the federal office of management budget. Um they're on a bit of a holiday right now. So you can't >> for lack of No. Um, usually they they issue the compliance submit in spring. So, they're very late, but it's there's a new uniform guidance requirement at the federal government level that that they're updating the compliance supplement, too. So, once that once that's issued, we can we can issue our report. Um, the other the other thing that's in this report, if you look at the executive summary, if you turn to page one, is we we issue a communication letter that kind of goes over different aspects of the audit, whether there's any significant accounting changes and that type of thing. We do talk about it in the uh um in the actual

006letter itself. I mean the compensated absences was the big issue this year um a new accounting standard. So we had to issue that which that adds significant change to that liability. That's liability for vacation and sick time. So last year it was only $184,000. Um that was based on all the vacation time and the vested amount of sick time that will be um paid out. Now in addition to the new accounting standard requires us to account for the time that's estimated to be used. So that added about $2.3 million to that liability. So right now financial statements instead of the 184,000 you had last year. This year you have about 2.8 million. Um so it's it's a large change and thank Tracy for doing a lot of the the hard work and help helping do

007that calculation. Um and then next year there'll be another standard there'll be another GSB is the government accounting standards for information standards. um frequently, a little bit too frequently. Um but they're going to change the management discussion analysis. That's the big uh that's the uh first eight or nine pages in the front of the big packet, the financial statements, and then we're going to change some notes. We'll have to add some information to the budget, the actual schedule, that's also in that big packet. Um, as far as any difficulties or that type of thing that we've had during the audit, we like I said, if you have any, um, there are a lot of journal entries attached to the the letter and most of those journal entries are the way we convert the fund financial

008statements that you're usually seeing on a month basis into the districtwide financial statements. So, it includes all the long-term debt, it includes all the fixed assets, and includes all the uh post-employment benefit liability. It includes the u um the all the pension liabilities and that type of thing. And we'll see that a little bit on the next page. Um also required to report to you if we had any disagreements with management. We had none at night. Um and then if there was any other issues that we had we didn't and these reports are clean like down below um the basic financial statements audits report and down below that is the report on internal control over financial reporting compliance which we didn't have any issues so we didn't have any material issues we didn't have any

009significant deficiencies so these are all the best reports that I can give you so we're saying that the you know within you know, reasonable assurance. We can't give you total assurance that the financial statements are properly stated. Um, so on the next page, page two is what we were talking about earlier about a report in accordance with uniform guidance. It's draft. Even though we did all the work, we did audit the school lunch program, the nutrition college cluster, which makes up about 40% of your overall re federal revenues, which was about 1 point almost 1.6 million. So a big decrease from the previous year. It's about a million dollars less than the what it was last year because of the co money all the programs. Um so even with that we didn't have any uh

010issues of non-compliance or material um issues to report. Um on the next page is what I was talking about earlier about the this on page three is the statement of that position and you see there's a lot of information in this page but just the I just want to point out some highlights because you know they're significant um and the uh towards the bottom there the second to the bottom line there the net position deficit see like 51 million the number the unrestrict deficits 81 million. Those numbers really are the result of the box down on the bottom that net old liability that's your other post employment liability that's for retirees health insurance you're act you have an actuary you calculate that number. So that the net net liability is $80 million. So that's the

011reason why you have that deficit there. So again, this is the full this is not your general fund. This is the full districtwide financial statement. So, it has net pension assets, net pension liabilities, deferred inflows, outflows, your capital assets, all your long-term debt, which includes that other post benefit liabilities. $62 million versus I mean $2 million a year and that's because the actuary always changes their assumptions. The discount rate actually increased quite a bit this year, 1.3.93% last year to 5.2%. 2%. So whenever the discount rate increases, your liability decreases. That's why decrease about $9.5 million. I'll skip over to page four. This is your overall fund balance. So you see overall the general fund increased $578,000. But your overall your unassigned because you put money into reserves and that type of thing. The overall

012unassigned fund balance only increase about $60,000. Both years you're right your 4% limit. You're you're limited to 4% of the next year's budget. But if you um and then you see the reserves increase about 832,000. Most of that was in the capital reserve. funding that a $7.5 million reserve that you have. So you're up to almost $1.2 million for that. Um some of the reserves are capped out like the the employee the retirement contribution reserve for TRS is at a million dollars. You're limited to 10% of the prior year teacher sale potential wages. Any questions on any of that? And and then you got the school lunch fund. We talked about that a little bit. The uh the audit committee that's like about two months worth of uh your expenditures, the $155,000, but you did

013have another year worth of deficit almost $60,000. So over the past three years, the total of all the deficits you had over the last three years about $430,000. uh be at the end of 22 fiscal year the fund balance is about 588,000 but you're you're you have you're limited to three months worth of expenditures otherwise they will start deducting from you and uh that type of thing down below there's the uh the debt service fund we see that decreased about 916,000 and that's because you transferred the money to the general fund $1.2 $2 million got transferred to the general fund that got transferred for the the current capital project. And then down below that is your your capital projects fund which is there's a full page of all the projects on the big uh deck

014packet on page 54. But most of that is the 23 project about $2.5 million a fun balance that's left over. is because of the reserve money that got transferred into there, whether it be the capital reserve or the government service reserve money. So that that'll get signed down. On the next page is your overall uh balance sheet of the general fund. And just some highlights here. I'm not going to get into all the nitty-gritty, but it's like, you know, you got the the boxes down below, which gives you some ratios. You look at the current ratio, the current assets to current liabilities. And, you know, that's pretty healthy. And in in the prior years, there was a little bit more because you had a capital reserve in there. You had almost $5 million in capital

015reserve included in cash. So, that's what made that a little bit better. about four four assets are four times as great greater than liabilities which is normal for a school district at the end of the year and then your overall equity to expenditures is is also around average usually that's around 25 to you know the mid30s% so so that's still a healthy one balance to have risk percentage and these are the same type of percentages that the controllers officers look at as well. And then the undesated fund balance is about 4.5% to actual expenditures, not to the budget. That's why you're the actual 4% that I mentioned earlier limit is based on next year's budget, not actual expenditures. The next page is a summary of the revenues and expenditures for the uh the general fund.

016And really not too many surprises here, but there are some significant changes. Um the the real property taxes increased as according to budget about $250,000 by almost 8%. Um miscellaneous revenues did decrease and that was because last year you had the uh grant for the um working through cooperative health insurance type. So that was $979,000 grant. Um the health and employee benefit line did go down a little bit and that was mainly because health insurance 426,000. Um because you're selfinsured by yourself, you know, that very volatile number depending on the claims and what comes through. the uh debt service actually came down a little bit. Debt service principle and interest actually came down about $74,000. Um you know overall you had excess revenues over expenditures about $578,000 for the year. Your revenues were under budget

017about 348,000. You didn't have to spend your entire budget. You're about 7% under your actual budget, which is a good place. That's where you're supposed to be. Um, so that was about 2 almost $2.7 million. And then you take account your appropriated fund balance about 1.7 million. All those pluses and minuses get you down to the same place with the $578,000 surplus. So overall, all together, I think the school district is well managed. you get a really good healthy financial condition. Um, you know, some school districts I don't I'm seeing this year really aren't that healthy. They're really kind of um because they haven't raised taxes in the past. They haven't managed their fund balance. They haven't managed their reserves. They haven't used things from the capital. You know, this the money that you're using

018now, the capital reserve and and the uh the $1.2 $2 million from the best service reserve. They don't pay you dividends so the next few years you'll be receiving state aid no more money. So it's it's a it's a good place to be. That's everything in a little nutshell. I spent a couple hours going over >> any questions or any concerns or >> anybody want the full two hours? >> No. >> So, no questions? >> No. Thank you. >> Thank you very much for having us. >> Thanks. >> Okay. Okay. Resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board is hereby accept the 2024 2025 audit from Jerangelo and Company. Do I have a motion? >> Some moved. >> Second. >> All those all those in favor? >> I >> opposed. Motion

019carried. Okay. Director updates. You would like to go look at this. Wow. >> He's trying to get into his game. >> Yeah. No, they're underway. Things are going good. So, you don't have to rush out there and get an update. So, what I'm passing out is a update on our fall season so far. Coming to an end, but Everyone have one. >> Yep, we're good. We're good. >> Uh to start off um you know for the girls first I have uh each team um and then the number of parentheses is how many participants are in each team and then their record um so far to date. Um you know as you can see for the girls right now um soccer's got our best record. Um, you know, they're they're doing a good job. You're okay.

020That was nice. Uh, they're doing a nice job considering uh three of their four seniors have been um some injury. Two of them significant amount of injury time. So, we're hoping by the playoffs that they come back. Um, you know, all but one of them hopefully can be back for playoffs. But, um, that's our records. Like I said, number of participants. Um, you know, unfortunately, we don't have uh records for cheerleading or modified cross country. Um, our cheerleaders each, uh, each week are getting better and better. Last week was pretty neat at the uh, Little Falls game. They don't have the standard setup where one team's on one side, business team on the other. They were actually next to each other. Um, the cheerleading squads, the benches the same. So, it was really, really nice

021seeing the confidence in our cheerleaders. Again, it's still kind of like Little Falls cheerleader like they they showed some spunk and they did a nice job. uh modified cross country. They uh they don't have they don't keep track of wins and losses which I don't understand that but I do want to um let everyone know they're having a fantastic season. They're doing else have a question with >> you know how many we put up for sectionals for tennis or >> what's that? >> You know how many went up for sectionals for tennis or are we not there yet? >> No, they're they're not going to the sectionals tennis sections. So >> Okay. >> Yeah. Um >> yeah, they had a they struggled a little bit but their numbers are good. So, I think that's a

022positive thing in tennis. We're up to 11. So, we increased a little. So, um and like I said, for girls this fall, we had 104 total female athletes participating. Um our boys sports, uh cross country and football, um are off to good starts. They're both undefeated. Going to knock on wood. Uh Tai represents our boys cross country team. Uh we got a challenge tomorrow. We always like facing Clinton. Let's hope we can knock them off tomorrow and remain undefeated at least a share. type of that. Um again the number of participants for each sports are there. We have 115 boys participating in fall sports this year. Our regular seasons for varsity field hockey, boys varsity soccer and girls varsity soccer are coming to an end uh this week and then next week we'll start postseason

023for them. continue um you know I'm happy about this and I'm proud you know what we have out there but I continue to get positive comments from coaches officials uh players um about you know the atmosphere that we have here for games and you know they're they're happy about the meetings get called and stuff like that as a result the section 3 committee for the sectionals they asked to if we would host the class D girls semi-final games for soccer and the boys class C semi-final games for soccer so we will be hosting the ways on the 29th for keeps at 5:30. So, uh when I talked to the chair of that committee said they came here a few years ago, they absolutely they love it here. I'm happy to tell them we have concession

024stand now so it's even be better. But we will be hosted on 29 the class 8 boy semifinals and if I can get some of your help uh you know we're all community members here. I am doing my best. Um I I need a bowling coach. we can start bowling signs the 17th and I think I'm going to have um enough for a team. But if you can spread the word and tell someone to get in contact me if you know someone that may want to be one of their bowling coaches, please let me know. That's all I have. If we have any questions, I wish I could do it, but I might know some people, so I'll talk. >> Let's talk. Someone asks you, let's talk. Uh, I don't have the time. >> Oh,

025the time. Okay, time. But yeah, if you do though, >> let me know cuz it would be I mean, I don't know how many are going to sign up. It would be a shame if we didn't have an offer. >> I got some people I can reach out to. >> Thank you. Appreciate that. >> Thank you. >> Good evening. So, in the PPS and the special ed world, we've had a very busy start to the school year. Um, meetings have really just started to take place. Usually September is filled with getting our new teachers accustomed to the building, just filling in whatever we couldn't necessarily get to over the summer. Um, we did bring on five new staff members this fall. Um, so we finally replaced the school psychologist that we desperately needed. um a

026speech pathologist due to a retirement and then three new special ed teachers. So my past six weeks has been filled with making sure those people have what they need, popping into classrooms, popping into sessions. Um and then both myself and the cse chair were able to present to all of the buildings during opening day and just some of the updates when it comes to student discipline. We did a great training with um the teacher aid monitors, K12, so all the bus aids monitors um if they're in the cafeterias, the teacher aid monitors about um deescalation strategies and how to best support students that might have some um emotional trauma. So, we did that while everyone else is having their faculty meetings. So, we've really kind of hit the ground running this fall and we're really

027looking forward to the months ahead. I really think that we've laid the groundwork, especially with some of the new admin that just came in to really just make sure we're moving forward in a very seamless, streamline way. So, I'm excited. >> Any questions? >> Thank you. Everybody that comes up, we're going to ask if they want to be a bowling coach. So, >> all right. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. So, we're going to add a little curveball to the agenda. Um but uh as some of you probably know or those of you who've been working in schools for a while um know the eb and flow of the school year. Certain times of the year we say thank you to people um and this is is uh school board appreciation month. October u is school

028board appreciation month. So um and it is important for us to take some time to acknowledge all the contributions of our school board members. I don't think anybody really truly understands the commitment uh that's involved until you actually live through it. Um but it's absolutely essential to the functioning of the district. They get tons of money as we know there. The checks are in the mail. >> We know that's not >> just for for the record that was a joke. That is not true. They schoolboard members definitely do not do it for the money. uh but um we need but but they're uh essential for the smooth running of the district to provide the leadership that districts need. So what better way we thought to celebrate and say thank you than to have food which

029is my favorite thing. So we wanted to uh you could tell that it's already attracting a crowd in the back of the room but we do have we do have um it looks like uh Mrs. Carneahan is diving in with help from several people. >> I'm just teasing Miss Carneahan. You're not d not actually eating. You're actually helping to prepare the food. Um but we wanted to invite people to have a piece of cake. Uh we're with us tonight. And um as we say thank you to the to the >> You're going to bring it over. >> Is that okay? >> Sure. >> Anyone who takes a slice is entered into a drawing to pick the new bowling coach. So, as we want to do a couple of things as we're the cake is being

030cut up and and brought over here. Um, we also wanted to I just wanted to read what each of the our board members are going to be presented a certificate of appreciation. Um, again, each of them will receive this. Um, but it reads for dedicated leadership in public education and continuing service to the students of this community school. So, on behalf of all of our staff, students, families, um a big thank you to our school board members, have a piece of cake and uh we will get you your certificate. We also want to get a picture. No, this is a big picture day because uh Rowan was already taking pictures for the yearbook, but we're going to have one more photo session before we move on. So, we can Leon is passing out the certificates.

031>> I have Mr. Certificate. Thank you. >> So, thank you. All right, I got one vanilla, one chocolate. >> More chocolate's coming. >> It doesn't get any better. >> Anyone like chocolate? >> Vanilla chocolate. There you go, sir. >> Chocolate. >> Yes, please. Thank you. >> I'm good. I got both. >> That's the least of our worries. >> Good. >> See, Ty and Rowan, this is one of the perks, right? >> Yeah. Oh, only reason they did it. She wants a picture. >> You want a picture now? >> Oh, she's over there. >> I thought you were going to say, do you want to grab your certificate? >> Hold it up like you're holding your drawing class today. Does this make you want to join the board when you grow up? >> Thank you. >>

032No. [Music] this whole thing. This thing's going to be staring me right. >> So, this is really her card is up there. She's on center street. Okay, we ready to move along? >> Sure. >> All right. >> Uh, old business. Resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board does hereby approve the following old business items. Revision of policy 10004, code of conduct, revision of the 2025 2026 standard work hours. Do I have a motion? So move. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion carried. New business resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board does hereby approved the following new business items. The intermunicipal agreement for transportation between Onidita City School District and Canis Stoa. Uh APR resertifications for the 2025 2026 school year for

033Mark Krowy, Stanley Congden, and Robert Carter. 2025 KUN pharmacy purchasing coalition renewal with express scripts. Uh correction of correction on a tax assessment for Madison County Real Real Property Tax Service for the town of Lennox. uh the combination of the sport ice hockey with Kasanovia High School for a fee of $1,250 per participant with the understanding that transportation is the parents responsibility for the 202526 school year and the substitute rate for CDL class C driver at $21 per hour effective October 15, 2025. Do I have a motion? So >> move second. >> Second. >> All those in favor? opposed. Motion carried. Next, student board member updates. Who's going to >> Mr. Dwer? >> I think we're all set for today. >> Okay. Nothing. >> I don't think we have anything to update on. >> Okay.

034>> I think their plan was they're going to start and actually I think this is next >> first meeting that we're going to have them start a regular presentation. >> Okay. Okay. Committee reports. Let's see. Um my folder is we'll start I'll start with the um facilities committee and I'm going to have to try and do this from memory because I don't have my sheet. I believe we met on the 25th of September. Um during that again updates on the uh capital project and um the end of the um capital outlay project has been completed. >> Yes. >> And discussions about the next year's capital outlay project. >> Perfect. Um, and today we got a walkthrough of the brand new middle school cafeteria and it's absolutely wonderful. Um, I the kids I believe christened it

035today and it went pretty smooth. They loved it. They did good. Uh, it looks wonderful. Um that's it for the um facilities committee and again I'm not sure if the next meeting is >> I think it's this week. >> Next week. >> So yeah, next week 23rd. >> October 23rd. Y >> All right. Uh we'll go to academic. >> Uh we by majority consensus uh had to cancel our previous meeting and we need to reschedule it. So that will be for coming. >> Okay. Finance. >> Um we met earlier and went through the audit which everybody just heard a thoroughly presentation on the audit. >> Um want to go over it again? >> I I am not going over it again. I was no. Um I will just highlight a couple of things just as

036a reminders. Um right now with food costs, our um meal program is costing us a little bit more than we expect only because of the cost of the food. And obviously with having to cart food back and forth across the school, the labor costs are a little bit more than um I think we were anticipating, but um still obviously a beneficial program. Um, but it's something we're keeping an eye on just to make sure that um, we're not going over budget in that area, but again, what I think everybody knows food costs are a little high right now. Um, so something we're keeping an eye on. Um, uh, the audit came back, no management comments. So, um, thank you to Tracy and her team on um, their hard work on keeping everything in in place

037for us this year and um, doing a good job of keeping um, an eye on our funds. Uh the last thing I will highlight is um our retirement for the school. We actually are in really good shape um on our ERS and TRS. So teachers, yes, you can retire at some point in time. We we know that you guys really are going forward that those dates. Um but um thank you for all your service and we are looking out for your futures. So >> two or four people just keep rubbing. I'll also be meeting on December 9th, I believe is the next day. >> Okay. Uh policy. >> Policy. We got to have our first meeting um this year on September 22nd. And because we have two new to the policy committee um members, both

038Kristen and myself, we got an overview of kind of what the charge of the policy committee is, how um policies are brought to the committee and how we identify what policies to review and edit and approve, things of that nature, um bring to the board for approval, excuse me. Um and so that was really helpful to be able to hear and to learn that. Um, we also will be undergoing a policy audit with labor relations. And so they'll help review and they'll provide an overview of where we should be focusing um the policies that we'll need to be looking at um for this coming year. And then our next meeting is November 4th. Okay. >> Thank you. Uh safety >> Thursday meeting Thursday. >> Meeting Thursday. >> This coming Thursday. >> First meeting. >> Okay.

039Um that facilities academic finance safety policy that's all correct. >> Okay. >> Uh next board comment period. Any uh comments from board members? I'll start. Um, I just wanted to, um, say thank you to all staff, students, um, and community members for the showing we had for Channel 9 News for Friday Morning Lights. It was, um, I was there for the whole thing. It was quite unbelievable to me. Um, just the amount of enthusiasm and the way that this this district and this community showed up was just very uh, very inspiring. Um, and from all and for all, you know, reports that I've heard or comments and feedbacks is that we we set the bar pretty high for that for that segment. It's going to be kind of be very hard to beat us. and

040um for Principal Carter, the food staff for feeding hordes of people. Um and especially uh special thanks to Cindy and the transportation department. Uh the way they decorated that bus in a a very nostalgic way. Um, and for them making the effort to be out there at 4:00 in the morning, 4:30 in the morning picking up any students who wanted to be part of that but couldn't make it. They they jumped right on it and and offered to to give them a ride. So, thank you. Very special thank you to them. >> Anyone else? >> Echo that sentiment for everyone that showed up and showed out for uh homecoming parade. Always great to see the community show up and everybody that came to cheer on the kids. >> Anything else? Okay. Uh, next superintendent report.

041Sean, you are up. >> All right. um echo a couple of the comments that were already made, but um as Glenn said in his presentation from Dark Angelo, um it's good to hear the words that he said, which was the district was in good shape and really want to thank Tracy and our business office for all their work that our whole team uh for for the good work that they do um because that doesn't just happen. It's a lot of hard work and coordination and planning and so um want to thank them for that. Um also really happy to see when we walked around over the last few days when we're looking at the facilities we've talked it feels like for so long about the some of the improvements that were coming to the district.

042So, it was great uh especially as we get towards the end of last week knowing what was coming this week um that u you know we have a new uh really great looking cafeteria Robert Street uh new guidance office area for families and students to be welcomed into. Uh so really excited about that and are anxious to continue to see the the work uh moving forward. So, um, you know, it's just encouraging to see these things start to get checked off our list, our to-do list for the for the capital project. Um, and I think the response has been has been positive. And got to like the the brightness. I know that's a Mrs. Leon influence. She's big into splashes of color. So, I think it was pretty uh pretty cool. >> And I'll add

043that I am a colorblind individual. And it really even stood out to me. So, you know, it's something special. >> Um, want to want to thank our our staff, students, and we we had been just a few days in um at our September meeting. I hadn't really been very far into the school year, but now we do have a little bit of a track record. We are um what about five or so uh weeks into the school year. So really want to thank um our our administrators, our teachers, our students because I think we've had a really good uh I'm going to emphasize orderly. I think a very calm orderly opening to the school year and that's a testament to I think everybody having high standards and expecting the best and so uh just want

044to thank everybody for their efforts and getting us off to a a good start at the beginning of the year. Some other things that I think were uh exciting and positive, we had our first athletic advisory council uh back a few weeks ago. We have another one coming up in early November, November 6th. Um but that was a real positive experience to get together uh not only school districts, athletic teams and people who are involved with our our programs, but our youth leagues and uh boosters. It was just a good conversation, a good place to share information and uh look at at uh potential opportunities and looking forward to the next meeting. This was a positive uh thing for the district, I think, and for the larger community. Um we are still going to be,

045as we've mentioned before, we're involved at the construction of a five-year strategic plan. We're getting close to being able to talk more about that again. We're sort of kickstarting it with the new year as we were onboarding some of our new uh building principles and having a chance to be able to uh talk as a leadership team um and be able to start talking to our staff again. So, we're going to looking forward to continuing the work that was started last year, uh, so that we can have something that is very meaningful and productive, not something that will collect dust, uh, but will be something that really guides our work and is a reflection of our priorities, um, for our school district. uh want to highlight this is something that's a little bit newer and

046and I'll have more specific information in the coming weeks leading up to it, but we have an opportunity to host a Wreaths Across America event uh this December. For those of you who've been a part of that before, um have seen it. U it's an incredible event. I had the good fortune probably 15 years ago, one of the early um communities. I was at the time a principal and and they were one of the early participants in that process. And so I know what we have to look forward to uh in a couple of months and I know uh Mrs. GOP is is is been uh working at that and it'll take really a whole team of people to really bring that to the Caninnesota again school community larger community but it's uh it's a

047great way of recognizing our veterans and we know we have a lot of veterans um who sacrificed and given uh everything for for their country and their community and so if you've never seen a Reese across America uh presentation or ceremony. One of the classiest, most dignified, really awesome events I've ever been a part of. And so I'm really looking forward to having it come to our community. Uh my understanding in uh in getting an update a few days ago on our status. I think we're going to be the only uh site in Madison County who actually is is um has this ceremony. So it's going to be really cool and much more to come in the next couple of months. U and again I I I would definitely be missing the boat if I

048didn't talk about how proud I was of our students, our alumni, our staff who showed up um for the Channel 9 event couple of weeks ago. Channel 9 was impressed. Uh I'm not surprised. I thought we were going to show up like that, but it was just great to see everything come together and see so much enthusiasm. I think it was nice to send the message that uh you know it's a great community and we put it on tape I guess that uh people could see what what can was all about. So very cool uh awesome and and uh you know my guess is they might want to come back pretty pretty soon because they had a good time as well. So, congratulations and and thank you to everybody who was a part of that.
