020the school I did the the Liturgy with her and two other parents this is uh my support for you hopefully we have more amazing people like you and I'm here for you because you deserve it thank you for your hard work and also I know they were doing uh removing some AV Vestas from our schools I would love to have proofs that they doing a quality year has to be tested so the kids can move in please have that in mind also we would like to know if transportation is handled in the right way not only for the private Community also for our kids and also another thing is um we would like to get more support from the every school principal we need that support we need to have a better understanding each others

022got nothing to do so we need more people to drive buses to schools no we need more bus drivers and when you're like making a school building like more bigger for more students um you need like rate on rate I forgot how to say it but I just need school like I all I need is you to do tests and if the air inside the school to test if the air in the school is good for our lungs so we need you guys need to test that when you're finished building like first you need to build second and second you need to test and then third when everything's good you can you can put kids in the in the building to learn and we also need more Biol lingual teachers to teach like kids that
023don't speak English to learn how to speak English cuz last year when I was in third grade some kids didn't even know how to speak English and I was like concerned about fourth grade because they're not going to know like they're going to go into fourth grade not knowing anything so I just need to know I just we just need more bilingual teachers and more teachers like that's all I'm like like that's all we need so thank you thank you speaker number three hello everyone as this is the last board meeting I'm really upset over the fact that I had to hear through the telephone game that one of our principles is being let go without the community knowing why um that's upsetting because the only thing I've heard about Miss Barrow is Excellence going
024Beyond her salary her payment which is most of the teachers too but the principal is the leader and she has taught all her teachers how to be a leader that's the person we want to educate our children um I'm going to convey from a Community member um a message good evening people of the board it is with a greatness sadness for our district for your District that I sit here today in witness of the termination of Miss Barrow I am the formal Director of Human Rights for my county and that is where I initiate initially Met m Barrow she has proven to be an outstanding educator administrator who demonstrates compassion Keen for foresight and an amazing sense of what it is needed for students to thrive she is inclusive and promotes a cons oh uh
025sense of community wherever she goes for you to have come to the decision you have today there's no doubt in my mind that something is not quite above the board has occurred no doubt Miss Barrow will land at another school another District that will be in good fortune to hire her but again my concern lays with whatever actions led to today's decision to terminate her I strongly urge you to correct that thank you for your time Miss Jansen now I was going to talk about a lot of things that obviously um Whoever has been here has heard me repeatedly over the year now I'm going to throw that in the in the on the side and I want the people that came to support Miss bar to stand up um I want you parents to
026stand up because this is the person that we need in our district not this right now because what happens that you see someone that has melanin on their skin and you don't think that they have the same right as you no our kids deserve the best every child deserves the best our staff deserves best they need contracts they deserve the best not what you're doing and another thing too if you haven't seen lately for the past week something went on Court and it's what it is if you are not providing education to children in schools you don't get funds so that means also from the private school pay attention to your schools before you pay attention to us [Applause] speaker number four hello everyone as we gathered today marking the end of this year I
027am filled with disappointment and frustration we the public schools students were looking forward to the summer programs that will provide us with opportunities to learn and grow but instead were they are were taken away from us it's unfair that we have to worry about these things we should be focused on our education our likes for example Music Arts Sports and our futures instead I feel I feel left behind and left out while private schools have pools Inflatables and two years ago the school near school near here and had a mini helicopter give giving rides I see ads for summer programs in other districts and how fun they will be North brockland Clarkstown and Stern and I can't help to feel help but I feel jealous why can't we have those opportunities too but What Hurts
028the Most is the reaction I get when I tell people I'm from east fro Central School District they say a I'm sorry you're there sorry sorry that I'm a part of the district that seems to be forgotten sorry that I the white people in charge of the board doesn't seem to care about the students like me a Hispanic girl it's disra disgraceful and unacceptable we deserve better we deserve to have our voices heared our needs met and our future is as important as the rest so I stand here today asking you the adults decision the decision makers the new assembly members and congressmen to listen to us to see us and to Believe in Us stop being a sell out for one Community we are the future and we deserve a chance to succeed I
029also want to address the new standards for breakfast and lunch why didn't you include kindergarten through eight students in that why didn't you include kids like us who have have spoken out here today you mentioned you mentioned you spoke to teachers but they but yet they don't eat the food we eat the event that was held was a shame and the food was passed has high scores because it was cooked and edible but it was a cover up to silence us well it didn't work we won't be silenced we have a great summer board knowing knowing that you took away our happiness we need people on the board who represents us and care about us don't come back we need change thank you Miss Miguel thank you Miss Ashley and thank you for Sabrina for

036want to thank Kathy for all her help in in helping me transition in and Dr jallow for their help over the last two days um and I also want to take this opportunity to compliment the students that came up and spoke before the board it is one of the most difficult things to do as an adult to speak in front of um people and peers for these two students to come up and articulate and demonstrate their passion and their desire for what they think is important I compliment the both of you very very much uh very very much so thank you and I'm listening EST estando I'm listening I'm listening yes I'm listening so a couple of things that you mentioned tonight which are very important and I that's clearly my charge over the first
037two months coming in here is transportation is making sure students have teachers in front of them and making sure come see that I have a cabinet to work with okay those are very those are the things that I'm working extremely hard with and I can tell you from the first time I came in we had these conversations I am meeting with and having meetings set up with our facilities director with our Architects to make sure that our buildings are ready to open to make sure we have air quality tests a lot of the these things that you're talking about I've dealt with I've been through and I can assure you one of my primary responsibilities is the health and safety and well-being of students and staff that's a non-negotiable that's a non-negotiable and I have
038to make sure and I promise you all make sure that all those things are looked into and taken care of because that's one of the charges that is given to me by the board and of course you the community it's very important as we move forward to work together we're here for kids we are here for kids that's the purpose of why we are here to do what's best for kids and [Applause] yes and it's very important that you understand it's my second day and I'm learning a lot every day um and it's important for us here on this day to work together to problem solve together um to be able to talk to one another to be able to debate because part of a legislative process sometimes is talking and having different points of
039view and then but you as the public and the board understanding the why I can't always say yes because there's certain circumstances that I can't because of issues that come up but if I can explain at least the why to you that's important that's very very important so and when we have these meetings and we have discussions moving forward we're going to be here we're going to be celebrating kids you're going to hear about the things we're doing in curriculum you're going to hear the work that Mrs Morales is doing with our L's and what she's trying to do with curriculum to strengthen the curriculum K to2 to make sure our kids are getting the services they need um especially our elves but all our Learners K to 12 and that's part of my job
040working with the principls having conversations I started um entrance interviews today with the principles um and as my cabinet comes on we'll be interviewing them um but I need you to understand that this has got to be a collective effort all of us together hunos working together for what's best for all Learners here in the East rapo Central School District so I thank you for the welcome I look forward to working with you over the course of the year um congratulations um to uh president Rose and vice president McGill I look forward to working with you and the entire board um and thank you again for the welcome thank you very much thank you sir that's it thank you very much Mr the Carlo and again welcome hopefully in future board meetings our superintendent board
