001the March 23rd school board meeting to order. Begin with the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Schultz here. >> Mr. Bradson, >> Mr. Brian, pres >> here. >> All right. Thank you. We have some familiar faces here, I think, for some good news. >> We do. Coach Gonda is back with a state champion, >> a double state champion back to back actually. So, that is one of that's exciting. um on the George one in form speaking again this year is the first double class doubleA back-to-back state champion. Now granted inform has been around that long. I say that but it's been at

002least well I bet six I bet it's almost 10 years we've had inform around um for that uh team did well as uh as as a whole. We took second place. We had several kids play second. We had a couple semi-finals as well. So that was great. But Amna is here tonight um to celebrate her wonderful victory. So I'll let her tell you about her wonderful champ her championship, what she talked about. Cool fact, she never got below a rank of a three this year. She never pulled a five the entire year. Won every tournament except our home tournament was high, but she didn't debate. She did not compete in the same room as the girl who won. So it's like, okay, we'll we'll have that. But definitely uh awesome to see that she went

003back cuz that is hard to do. Hard hard to do. Your turn. >> Yeah. I mean it was super exciting. I was not expecting that at all but I'm glad it happened and I'm really proud of like myself and the team as a whole. I think we all did really good and especially this year we don't we didn't really have an I coach but all of us did really good in our events. tell us about your topic. >> Okay, so my topic this year was on immigration and I basically talked about how long the process is from like the start to getting a visa to coming to the US and like the pathway to citizenship and staying here forever. And I also talk a lot about my personal experience and like when my family came

004and yeah, >> have there been a lot of changes to the immigration code recently in the last few years? >> Definitely. Yeah, there has been a lot of changes and with what's happening in our country right now, there has been a lot of new restrictions and also uh new rules. So, it has made a lot of differences. What's next for you? Um, next I mean I'm going to Northern for nursing, so that's pretty exciting. So, I hope I can come back and help kids um here like maybe judging or something. But yeah, so I'll be here. >> Looks like you have some hardware in your hand. Can we see it? We can't see it behind the podium. This one is from last year and this one's from >> you have any rivalry with your sister

005now or do you >> I mean we have a whole thing just for us all >> well technically you have placed higher in competition at nationals >> she was a runner up for like Yeah, this is true. That's true. >> Win. We also are hoping to We want We're hoping for finals on stage. >> Yeah. Hopefully. >> That's our That's the goal. >> Nationals, uh, Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, >> on the state level, does it become a numbers game as far as total points and everything, the amount of people can overwhelm? Nope. It's top two. Top two in each event. >> Okay. >> So, you get you to bring two in each event and >> Okay. >> IE count for 50% of your score and then the bait counts for the other 50% of the score.

006>> So, Super Bowl Jefferson had a run. They they did well. >> Um but we will definitely be ready for them next year. >> Was it was it really close >> between them? Uh between first and second, no between second, third, and fourth was very close. So we beat Sou Falls Washington by one win. Basically the difference between them taking second and us taking second and then Brookings was only like two behind by two wins behind us. Does the topic make a difference as far as how well a different teams could perform the topic that you you've got? Some do better with certain topics. >> So, you find a topic that really resonates like you think we have one with a with a twist that really resonates. I think we're going to do really well

007with it. >> Yeah. With mine, I would say the main thing was I was really passionate about my topic. Yeah. >> And obviously, I've been living this life, so I had a lot of lot to talk about. Does that help? >> People want to look at the ICE aspect of a lot, but we look at more through the lens of like, okay, how long is this going to take? >> It's not just simply apply for your visa. It's a 5year waiting process and then at any point in time like what 3minute interview? >> Yeah. >> Three-minute interview and the Indian consult US consulate or >> Yeah, US consulate in India. >> Could just say no and stamp it no. >> Like you could be here 10 years and then go back and redo it and

008they can just stamp it no reason, no explanation. Sorry, you're done. >> Which is >> Are political topics sensitive to judges as far as you get into the politics of it all? >> Yeah. Yeah. Depends on >> suppose it depends on the judge >> and that's one of the benefits of like online competition right now is that we've gone we've entered in various places and it's basically a rush kind of to the middle >> of like who can not get the six in a round. Twos and threes are great. talk a little bit about nationals. How many kids do you have going? >> We have uh 15 kids going. Um we will be taking a full slate of LD. We take two LD years. We've qualified two freshman this year to nationals. Uh we've got

009Lucky Gundawir in LD and then we picked up Anukica Bird in big question debate. Um we are taking a representative in all speech events and all debate events as well this year and we took a house member and a congress and a senate member. So we are going to be in every school that they offer debate in uh in Richmond. So >> is it one of your largest groups? >> It is one of our larger groups. larger larger um when it was co years and they let like four ball bears in we were we were bigger but this is one of our larger traveling groups. So it's going to be you just don't show up to a restaurant with 20 20 people coming. So we have some we have judges going because we have to

010provide at least three judges. So we've got former debators coming back to come judge for us. Very excited. Well, the debate program has been successful for well over a decade and you continue that legacy. Uh you you certainly put your stamp on it as well and uh we wish you much success this summer but uh continued success here in more from in the coming future. CONGRATULATIONS. >> All right, we have the agenda in front of us this evening. I'd ask for a motion for approval. >> So moved >> by Dr. Bortnham second. >> Second by Mr. Sharp. All those in favor signify by saying I >> at the same time. >> Persons wishing to address the board >> or remarks. See, we'll move forward. Uh we have a number of items on tonight's consent agenda.

011Would anyone like anything pulled from tonight's consent agenda for further consideration? If not, I would ask for a motion for approval. So moved. Motion by Murphy, second by Olsen. All those in favor of tonight's consent agenda. Signify by saying I. I. >> Same sign. Report to the superintendent, Dr. Gin. >> Thank you. The first item on the agenda tonight is the Wholegate Middle School updates. Principal back is here to give us the update. >> All right. Josh said he put a timer on me this year, but I think if I talk for five or 10 minutes before I started this thing, he wouldn't have a sure he's in control. >> Yeah, exactly. All right. Well, welcome. I'd like to welcome everybody. Uh I think in the 8 years I've been principal at Holgate, I've had

012this speech in October and I've had it in November and March and February. So, and uh it's always uh different kind of a different speech to determine what time of the year it is. I I will start out with uh the um new staff that we had this year. Uh assistant principal Marty Morlock uh came on board this year from uh the Frederick School District. Uh Khloe Rush was our sixth or is our sixth grade language arts teacher. And again, these people are threequarters of the way done with the year, but I still want to introduce them as the new staff members. Tabitha walks uh came back to Holgate. She was at Wholegate a few years ago, went to the high school, and now she's back to Holgate as a seventh grade language arts teacher.

013One of them, Taylor Barau, uh, is our new STEM teacher. And let me talk about that for a little bit right here. So, we've had it, industrial technology for a number of years with Mr. Haline. Uh, he retired and, uh, moved on. And so, there's no industrial technology program in the state or college anymore. Uh so we went to what Simmons is doing right now is the STEM or the project lead the way and design and modeling is a class we had this year for all three of our our grades sixth, seventh and eighth. So as we progress through the next three years uh next year we'll be we'll add medical detectives uh which is the seventh grade level one at at at Simmons. So, our sixth graders and our seventh graders, and they'll they'll

014have medical detectives, and then we'll work our or excuse me, our seventh and eighth graders will have medical detectives, and we'll work our way the next year up to robotics, and then we'll have that three-year rotation of design and modeling sixth grade, medical detective, seventh grade, and then robotics grade. So, and we'll be on same same line with seventh, fifth grade. So, so, uh, kids love it. They love it. I first time I saw a kid walking around with a a cardboard shoe on, I had a question, you know, where did that come from? but it came from design and modeling. They were designing cardboard shoes. So, it's uh they do 3D printing and and the kids really really enjoy it as a new addition. And then Connie uh now Morning Star, she is married

015to the gentleman that's sitting beside her on that picture. There's no picture on the school website and Connie wouldn't give me a picture so I went and found one on the internet. So, that uh that is Connie and her husband uh Leo and she is our new SRO and doing a wonderful uh job for us also. So, those are our new staff members at Colgate Middle School this year. Student achievement. I'll talk about each goal of Aberdine School District. We'll start with student achievement. Uh once again, we we uh had our comprehensive needs assessment this year. I believe it's year four of of the process and it'll be on a rotational basis every year. Uh we we have our c our our uh comprehensive team. Uh we also do the school improvement plan and that's

016what comes out of our our CNA. Uh if you type that in your computer, it does say can. you have to correct that everything. So, uh, a comprehensive assessment. Uh, we evaluate our data, uh, where we're sitting with our testing scores. We do go through our attendance, uh, school discipline, kind of what's going on in the school. Those are all things our our committees, uh, go through when we do our comprehensive needs assessment at the beginning of the school year. So, those uh, it's a good way to kind of tear into what's going good in your school and to see what we can improve. So, those are always uh, what we like to do. uh teacher teams that we uh have to identify strengths and needs. We go into a curriculum and instruction. We talk

017about leadership uh family culture and then talent development. So uh uh professional development but it's called talent development when it comes to CNA. So that is uh uh what we do during our student achievement and then of course we take the test scores and attendance and everything and put that into the school improvement plan plan and then I I think we had all approved those earlier this year last year. uh South Dakota assessment dates uh coming up soon soon March uh 31st and April 1st we will start with science for 8th grade only and then we'll take a week for math and a week for language arts I have those dates on there and then we'll have an entire week for makeup tests so by the end of uh uh April uh everything is finished

018that way kids aren't just taking tests for six seven straight days we spread it out and it really helps I think the atmosphere of the testing and and kids don't get a burnout test uh on the test, but we will get the essentially the whole month of uh April spread out with our science for 8th grade and then sixth through eight language arts and math tests are coming up. Uh district literacy committee uh we'll apply for a 4-year grant what was it $1.8 million I believe and um uh I am on that committee for a little while yet and uh as I'll be moving on to the AD spot next year but it's four-year grant. uh we have met uh one two three times already this year and uh we're going through our our uh

019prongs of the uh literacy for the school and we also had a professional development for all staff members on the science of reading. We did that back in October. We met at the uh central and all the staff members spent the entire day with science of reading professional development and then the language arts teachers have since had another uh grant or another session of that and that will tie into next year uh when all the professional development for language arts teachers will be in science. So we're hoping that helps our score our language arts score that's student of the month. We continue to have our student of the month. Every single month we have uh for core classes, PE, health, uh uh electives, and then usually we have a student of the month in each

020one of those. Every month, uh we take our picture, put it on the website, send it out, and get it out to as many people as we can get to celebrate our students of the month uh every single month. So, we continue to do that. And then home room attendance challenge. We've had fun with this for a lot of years, you know. Oh, I got a little slide on here. That's the word you get for being every month the home room that has the best attendance to start the school day, which we don't encourage you to come if you're sick. I mean, that's we we don't do that, but but if the home room with the best attendance, they get that um homemade sign outside their door. They get donuts and then uh they we

021celebrate them in in the school uh for the month. Believe it or not, other than the first month of school, the same home room has won everyone. Never had that happen. Usually it shifts around a little bit and somebody might win a couple but but we've had uh one Mrs. Doxy's home room has won everyone but one this week. So that's where we're at on that. And uh uh it's fun for the kids. They they enjoy that. It gives them something to shoot for. Okay. Next goal for the school district, health and wellness. Uh class offerings PE and health. Uh weightlifting. We started offering that a few years ago. And then lifetime activities is something we've added in the last couple years where the kids uh we actually even took advantage of the uh snow

022hill over by this year a few few times for some fun activities for the lifetime activities students. Uh and those are eighth graders like activity students that staff wellness challenge will start on March 30th this year. Uh it's going to be a six week process or six week contest excuse me. And uh last year I think it ran half the year I believe. I don't know. I tried my best to participate. I didn't make everyone, but uh I think last year you had to drink your weight in water. >> Us poor people that are two something that's tough. So uh this year they have adjusted it where you only have to drink 64 ounces of water I think a day and they don't take like if you drink a pop you don't have to subtract

023it cuz that's what happened last year. You could guzzle down a gallon or two of water and still if you drank a few pops you. So, uh, that's one of the prongs. Uh, one of the things, uh, self-care and mindfulness is another week. Healthy eating is another week. Uh, gratitude and kindness will be another week for for all the schools. We compete against each other, the exercise and and movement. Uh, last year CC Lee won. So, our goal is to win this thing this year. And uh uh the people that participate in there, they just obviously take your total score divided by the number of staff members participating and that's who eventually wins the health or the uh staff wellness challenge. So that whole gate's goal is to un one seat leadership. We did bring

024the South Dakota Retirement System in. I had called earlier this year. I set up in February. So we had all the high school, middle school uh over at Central and they came and spoke to us. And I think that's really important because you think about well not everybody's retiring but with the new system of retirement it's different. I mean all the new teachers don't have the rule of 85. So uh that gets explained to them how they can get into the another pool to uh put more money in. Uh so he he really explained it well from the beginning teachers to the people that are old like me. So uh are getting there and um uh so he did a good job. We had that back in February. So all the staff attended that uh

0256 through 12. And then we are continuing to do every year which I really enjoy kind of like the fish program that they have at the district level. We have our our wholegate middle school golden eagle feather kindness project and that is uh student senate le I think one year Mr. Merly wanted me to put his picture on there and call him the face of kindness but I did not put that on there this year. So but I will mention it. And uh what the students do and the teachers do, they see that little card on there, they can fill that out as something. But if say, for instance, some kid falls down in the hall, drops his book, books, things are everywhere. That's embarrassing. As as a middle school student, if someone helps him

026pick that up, I'll fill out one of those cards for that kid because that's really being kind and helping the kid out. Uh we put it in that box that's uh sitting right there uh sitting on Mrs. Haline's desk. And then uh we pick a winner every every week and then they get that uh little the person that put the card in and then the person that is on the card uh get a golden eagle. So we again put that on a social media. We put it on our boards in our school and uh really really push that and the kids like that. And then every kid that gets nominated I don't know if you can see it on top of that box but there's a little feather on there that gets put on their

027locker. It's a removable feather that they can take home with them at the end of the year. That's our wellness program. So, that's the health and wellness goal, how we're accomplishing that at Wholegate uh school and community relations. We've really hit this hard the last few years. Uh, ever since we've, you know, got a new sign outside site. So, we just kind of, hey, let's get this rolling. So, we started our PTA does a few things for us, uh, a lot of things for us. They supply reimbursement for the teachers, right? If teachers submit, uh, say when Mrs. Guyer was in school, she would have a read read along with the second graders from CC Lee. Uh then and we'd sub she would submit to the PTA and they would give her pay for her

028cookies and her juice for the the kids that came over. So it's things like that our PTA does for our teachers. That's that's really nice and helpful. Uh they'd have staff meals for our teachers at conferences. And then what's been really popular the last couple years a PTA family bingo night. Uh this year we set up 200 chairs and tables in the gym at Wholegate and the bleachers had to have 150 people in them. So we had 300 plus people at bingo. Your odds of winning are not very good when it comes to that but but it it it was fun. It was a good night. And we uh prize-wise what we do is uh we have 32 uh 32 home rooms and we have each home room uh they volunteer to make a basket

029like a theme basket and that's the basket that the winners can pick from. So in the office we made it was in November. So in the office we made a Thanksgiving basket where it was a turkey, cranberry stuffing, potatoes box of course and um kind of a whole Thanksgiving meal and somebody named me forgot to put the turkey in it. So So whoever won it picked it up without the turkey, but we gave it to them. We put it out early and have it thaw out and so they probably thought they didn't really get a whole Thanksgiving. We didn't give it to them. We got got their turkey. aware of that. So, uh also collaboration between us and NSU. We're 20 plus strong student teachers uh from the lowest level student uh where they come

030observe all the way up to the full student teaching. In fact, we've got a couple at our school right now. So, it's a very good uh way to uh uh really get our next teachers some experience. So, it's a good deal and I enjoy working with NSU when it when it comes to that. Uh we've increased our home and school communications. Uh thanks to Josh over here. We got Thrillshare rolling along. Uh I really enjoy that you can go out on all the social media platforms on one click of a button. You can go on Twitter, uh Facebook, all those Instagram, you can and send them out, put them on our school website, uh push it out to the parents on their phones, all with one click of a button. So it's really, really, really

031handy. and and I've Marty Morlock, our assistant principal, has been doing a lot of work with that this year with our school boards. Uh which we have we have school now four big TVs. One, two, yeah, five five. We got five uh big TVs around our school. So all our messages are on there. Uh the daily AB day, the school lunches, school breakfast. Uh Marty does a really good job uh with those. And all our, like I said, our students are the months are always a month is always flashing up there so kids can see each So, it's it's really really good. I know kids stand there and they watch that. They they really do a good job. And then our um youth power uh Mrs. Shoeacher has started the thing this year, two truths

032and a lie. It's kind of cool. So, it we our staff members do it and they they do two truths and one lie and then she puts it up on that screen and everybody's supposed to guess by the end of the week what the lie is on there. So, I uh my this year was my dad was my high my principal, my mom was my kindergarten teacher, and I ran and completed a 5K in Las Vegas. I threw him off that one. So, that's what everybody guessed, the 5K, but no, has actually done that. I didn't do a very good job. My wife ran five half marathons in a row, so I thought I'd try to impress her one time. Yeah, that so uh but my mom was not my kindergarten teacher. That was the

033lie. So, But it was cool. It was a neat and and it really got the kids and staff members involved and the winner each week, whoever guessed it right, got a candy bar. So, those are all things we're doing. We did start uh and I've been excited about this for a number of years, a whole Simmons monthly principal meeting and Dr. Guffman attends most of those and uh it's really worked out well. we have our running agenda and it seems like man I don't know what we're going to talk about and all a sudden it's an hour hour Josh comes to them and um uh it's good it really helps foster our communication between the two middle schools and stay on the same page with each other so we do that every month the second

034uh second Wednesday of every month uh and we alternate schools we don't always meet at wholegate we we alternate each each school we do that uh HMS youth power uh service service club uh meets two to three times a month. Uh they um uh do a lot of fun things like uh they are going to plant flowers for the teachers here for teacher appreciation next week. So just one of the things they do uh make Valentine's Day for veterans. Uh they do all kinds of things. So it's a very good group. We've got 60ome kids and we probably really grown. We've had it about four four going on five years now. So that's something we started 8th grade career days. Uh May 6th, we're going to split this this year. May 6th and the 13th.

035Um May 6th is going to be interviews. We're going to have 35 tables of interviews. And I think Mr. Schultz, you've been up there interviewing people before. Uh kids get split in. They do three inter it's for eighth grade, but each eighth grade kid does three interviews of a different business or or occupation around town. So very very valuable. And we just thought it's gotten really rushed. So we do we're going to do that on the 6th. And then on the 13th, we're actually uh taking the eighth grade rooms and a couple other ones around school. We're going to bring people in to give a speech on what they need for the future. Uh so that'll be on the 13th. So good good thing for the eighth grade students. Really gets them excited about their

036futures. And then Wholegate holidays at Wholegate. We've done this two years. I don't know if anybody's been up there. Uh this has been a success. We we I think Alyssa, you taking pictures. Uh we've had it's hard to estimate. We we put 500 ballots out there for people to vote who has the best uh holiday uh hallway decorations. We divide the school into six sections. Uh we don't invite the fire marshal. In fact, Ben, when you sent that out that the fire marshall was coming and I knew we had holidays at Holy. Oh my goodness. And I finally read to the bottom it said over Christmas vacation. So it was good. But uh we decorate the hallways. Kids are very proud of it. If you go on YouTube and search for holidays at Wholegate, it

037is on there both years. You can watch the video. We have people video it. Video almost doesn't do it justice cuz they, you know, they go around. But, but it uh we added a a nice new thing this year, a soup cuppper, free will offering. We had 34 people donate soup or chili or whatever. Like we even had a feeant soup. And uh uh so that was successful. But we probably had 7, eight, 700 strong people go through roll that night. And uh the theme seventh grade won it again. The office didn't win it. So with peanuts and we have selected the office theme is the Grinch each year. So appropriate. So So that's our theme every year. Uh so that's how it is at Hoget. I put a little flyer on there just so

038you can remember that. And if you want to go on YouTube, it is on there. Uh last goal is safety. Uh all the staff members are trained on safe schools online training and Alice training online this year which is as you know alert lock down inform counter and evacuate. So uh fact officer Olsen just sent out our last drill of the year for Alice today. So I think we're on I believe April 28th is the day we'll do our final drill. We conduct our safety drills, uh, four fire drills, two severe weather drills, tornado drills, and then two Alice drills per per year. Uh, all the EAS, our educational sports staff have been trained on mental health first aid training. And then, uh, Dr. Guffin last year started something. It's called an admin safety audit

039check. And I I enjoy that, especially I had a new super uh, assistant principal last year and a new assistant principal this year. And I took them through the school and we found out where the emergency shut offs were. uh where all the fire safety things, the stop thebleleed kits, the AEDs. We went all around and marked off where all those were. It's got a digital map of our school. I think has everybody in here seen that thing. That is really interactive map. That is that is neat. You can you can go through and and go through all the rooms and the digital map and uh but we went Marty and I went through that and checked it all off and uh uh it's a good way to be familiar with the things that at

040your school. Uh we had a we practiced on uh on our cell phones on how to lock the doors, unlock the doors, communication and uh cuz you don't want to start practicing if if you need to do something and that's what that's for. So it's a very good good habit to start. And then also hall pass uh students check out on a computer when they leave the the room and then we can monitor exactly where they are in school and we can limit you know how many kids are up at home. So it's a good good thing. My uncle, oh my goodness, I'm at 19. Sorry. Registration process for next year. High school registration for our eighth graders is complete. Uh on November 20th, that was completed. Uh the meeting for the parents, guardians, and

041students at at Central was the 24th of November. Uh middle school registration, I went over to the fifth grader, fifth grade uh schools, and that was um March 4th and 5th, I believe, is when I went over to the the uh fifth grade schools. met with them individually, all their fifth grade uh students, and got them their form that was due last Wednesday. We do have all those in. And then our sixth and seventh grade uh who are going to be the seventh and eighth graders for next year. Uh their registration forms were actually due today. So, we'll work on getting those uh completed for the year. And then the fifth grade visitation, which is always a big day over at Holgate, is uh and Simmons due uh April 29th. So, that's April 29th will

042be our uh visitation day. We'll get those over there. All right. So, let's recognize a few people that are going to retire out of Holgate this year. I always like to do that. Julie Droy, our librarian. Uh 22 years of service to the Aberine School District is retiring. Uh Rhonda Nubert has 21 years of school or service to the Aberine School District in our computer program. And then Linda Reeseman in the office EA has 15 years in the Aberine School District. She's has decided to retire also. So, those are the three people at Colgate that will be retiring. I would like to thank you for everything you do as a school board. Uh, it's a hard job and and let us let I want you to know you're appreciated. You are you do a good

043job uh for our students, for the public school district, for our students and staff and and we we really appreciate it. So, thank you for all all you do. and 21 minutes questions. >> Obviously, you do a great job and you mentioned that uh this will be your eighth and final time for presenting for as uh Hogate. Uh if you could go back 8 years, what would you tell yourself or what have you you more proud of in those eight years? Someone in this room gave me really good advice when I moved here. I came from a small school that I was the superintendent, K12 principal, athletic director, special ed director and uh I I the advice I got was and so delegation was something I did not get to do in in Eureka. Uh

044so someone in this room a lot of good people at your school let them do their job and that was really good advice for me when I moved here. So I look back, I think about that all the time. Let people do their jobs and and that's what we hire them for. And I think we have a very good school employee. Let a lot of people do their job. >> Did that answer your question? >> Thank you for what you do for our school. And >> I'm excited. I am excited to be the ad. That's a job I've always wanted and and I look forward to. >> It should be a challenge just >> Yes, IT IS. EXACTLY. NO, I'M LOOKING FORWARD to it, too. >> That's great. >> Thank you very much. >> Okay.

045Um, the next item on our agenda is the approval of the food service management company RFP. It is hard to believe that it has been 5 years since we have been under contract with a food service management company. Uh, but five years is the maximum that you can be under this new contract. It's renewable every year, but 5 years is the maximum amount number of times you can do that. So, the RFP that you see on the agenda needs board approval, but it is a template that is provided by the South Dakota Department of Education. Uh, we did have to personalize several elements in there as far as how meal offerings we're interested in having the company provide. Um, in terms of reimbursement, we have some of the staff that we pay, some of the

046staff that the management company pays. There's various elements in the RFP that are specific to Aberdine, but uh we have a very very very tight timeline that's in the proposal as well, which includes tours of our facilities uh question and answer period for vendors who may be interested in sec question. Early on, if I remember right, the state was not as helpful with our endeavor in this field. Have they gotten better over the last 5 years as far they put more regulations on us or not? >> Um, we personally now this very long there are several reg federal regulations regarding food service. So that mean those obviously can't be changed and asking for that but um but I do think having a management company that knows that and keeps up with that is very important.

047>> Why is it only >> has this management company picked up any more accounts in South Dakota? they just stayed with them. >> I don't know if this has been new in the last five. They have several school districts in the state of South Florida because I can't tell you if they um I know when we joined because we were one of the largest school districts that have management. I think that was it took them a while to kind of having a district of our size, but they did a great job with us and the uh We have a motion on the floor. Is there a second by Mr. Any further discussion related to the uh food service management RFP? See none. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I same sign. >>

048Next item on the agenda is the approval of uh MO regarding the use and allocation of PEG funds. Uh PEG funds are funds that if you're a cable subscriber, but that's part of the deal that you have is there are PEG funds attached to that. The purpose of the PEG funds is 100% to be used for the cable access channel which the school district has managed forever. Yeah. So it says existence. So the school district manages the uh particular channel. Um and the PEG funds can only be used for capital expenditures that facilitate that channel. There's no other exception for those funds. So we met with the city and have come to an agreement that we will split the P funds that are in the fund balance and then moving forward to split the revenues

049on a basis. This will be very helpful in running for some of the software that we use to run the channel as well as some as well. It's the same software as both. So this this will be very helpful for them to have a steady stream of rain as well. >> I know northern also challenge. >> Yeah, we provide for the entire community. Yeah. Yeah, it's been called the channel entertain a motion approval of the motion by Dr. Borton. Second by any further discussion I would just like to thank Mr. Jensen and Dr. Duffin and I know a lot of conversations with the city on this and how the best funds I think would thank you very much for your work. With that being said, all those in favor of theou regarding the paid funds

050by saying I >> same sign. Thank you. >> The next item is the approval of the first reading of policy CDA. Um this is the administrator evaluation policy. Um just a couple of slight um adjustments but one of the um school admin are required to be evaluated in the first four years of their employment and updating three for the state law states move for by sharp second by any further discussion related to policy this came from Yes. Any further questions? All those in favor of policy CDA. By saying I >> oppose. Same sign. Thank you. >> And the next item on the agenda is the approval of the schools district supervision and evaluation of professional staff guide. Uh we have been using this particular manual for many many many years since the early 2000s. Um

051it's been an internal document that we've used with teachers and with principles. We've never had the board include this but it follows the state law and again the asking for this particular document floor by chartis. Any further discussion related to this revision and evaluation process? >> Yes, I assumed July. >> It's my understanding only changes. >> I don't know if that changes. >> Any further questions? See? None. All those in favor of the motion on the floor signify by saying I. >> Same sign. Thank you. We do have need for executive session under CD codified law 1-2524 for a motion for executive session by chart by Olen. All those in favor I >> we are an executive
