I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Resolved upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board of education approve personnel items 4 through 7. May I have a motion? Move. >> Second. Russ. Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Pass 70. >> Resolve that the board of education approve minutes from the January 27th, 2026 regular board meeting as attached. May I have a motion? So >> move a second. >> Second, Bonnie. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor? I. >> Any opposed? We have 70. Any adjustments or amendments to the the meeting? Okay. It resolved that the following consent agenda items be
approved. 8A, CSSE, and CPSC recommendations and 9 A throughJ financial reports. I have a motion. >> A second. Second. R. Any discussion? All in favor? I. Any opposed? 70. We have a special recognition. Am I just reading? Is there someone here? >> You're just reading. >> Okay. The Western New York Federation of Women's Club local sponsor of the General Federation of Women's Club's creative writing contest is proud to announce that fourth grader Charlotte Kersh won honorable mention in grades three, four, and five short story for Dip Tape Doppler. Congratulations. Uh any correspondents? Any privilege of the floor? Okay, we have administrators and supervisors reports. came. Hello. All right. So, um today our UPK applications went live. That UPK and kindergarten registration went in the um Arcade Herald. I just want to make sure I'm not
misspeaking. I want to make sure they posted the Easter appetizer on the Arcade Herald today. We did have a little technical issue. when you log into our website, the link wasn't working, but as a 445, that link is working. Keep in mind that our UPK application is a PDF. You have to print out that paper application because it comes with a whole bunch of paper documents that go with that. We have them available hard copy the main office for any family that should need them. We are still planning on enrolling 38 UPK students next year for two full-time classrooms. It's important to know new this year, kindergarten registration will be the same that all students will have to register for kindergarten even if you're currently enrolled in our current UPK. The difference is is only
students that are brand new to Holland will be participating in that long um u screening where we're doing those assessments for readiness to help with our placement and early intervention. That's something that other districts in our region have already moved to. We had some feedback some from surrounding districts. Was that a good move? Did you have enough information you needed to place kindergarteners and the answer was absolutely yes. There's no reason to make our prek students that have been with us for 181 days sit through that testing. We know them well enough to make those decisions. So they everybody will still register but not everyone in kindergarten will be coming to screen. Any questions on those two pieces? Okay. Tomorrow we celebrate the 100th day of school which is exciting. So a special thank you
to the PTO member Leslie Shriner. She's putting up a balloon installation in the front of our building to help our students celebrate. And we are all participating in a 40-minute drop everything in play session. This is a really fun opportunity where our students play with their peers as well as teachers. We're practicing turn taking, how to win and lose graciously. Um all of those great learning opportunities that happen in playing games. You will notice I keep an eye out for some photos. We're hoping to have some kindergarteners attend as old folks. They always come with their canes and yell at me to get off their lawn. And I remind them not to fall bright. Way too much paperwork. Our older students 1 through 4, we encourage them to show their school spirit by wearing purple
and gold tomorrow. Also, we have a group of teachers working to help us celebrate ReadAcross America week. Traditionally, that was called Dr. Seuss week if you remember that. We will be kicking off Monday thanks to the PTO with a Dr. Seuss happy birthday treat to celebrate his 122nd birthday. And then throughout the week, we'll have drop everything and read sessions as well as we'll be hosting our annual literacy night on March 5th from 5:30 to 7:00. This year is different. We're actually partnering with um our colleagues at Erie Boseies and their literacy team with the science of reading consortium. The focus of our literacy night, it's always opportunities for families and students to engage in literacy tasks and they travel around the building. They'll be the same this year except for our focuses around what
the science of reading it is and how that makes reading instruction look a little bit different at the foundational ages in our building and then what you can do as a parent to support that reading success at home. Uh again, we're partnering with the East Library. We're excited to have them join us for the event. And then we have opened up volunteer hours for our high school students to come over as well. So if you can make it, we would love to have you. Thursday at 5:30. Any questions for the elementary school? >> Thank you. You're welcome. >> Good evening everybody. How are you? Since last we talked, there have been no snow days. >> He's actually worked at home, too. >> Yeah, there was a February break, so not all complete, you know, without
the interruption. Um, so I wanted to share that update with you all. Um, one thing I just wanted to share with the board is as part of my my entry um into the middle school. Um, one of the things that I wanted to do is meet individually with all the staff members over the last three weeks. I've done a lot of that. So, I've been able to meet with every single one of the staff members um who signed up for it. So, I gave them the option to be able to sign up for a one-on-one meeting, take about 15 minutes and chat with them just to get to know them a little bit better and know who we're working with and know how they feel about the district and about the middle school and it's
been really positive stuff. So, I've been very happy to um engage in those conversations. We have some great staff members. Um, one thing I will also share in my next newsletter that's going out will be a survey going home to families. Um, so they'll be able to provide some feedback to me as well. Um, that will be the first step and um, communication with the families to get some of their feedback about things that are happening at the middle school that they like and what things that they might want to tweak. Um, we did the fifth and sixth grade CBT simulation at the beginning of this this month. One thing I wanted to share with all of you was we did find one thing that's going to be great to know going forward. Um when
we were trying to um move some of the kids who are in groups already into a separate group after I already printed the tickets, the passwords didn't work. So it was a different password when I moved them into a different group. Um so that's going to be good to know for when we have the the full scale um CBT testing in April and May. that it was at least opportunity to be able to see that >> quickly rectified. >> What's that? >> Quickly rectified. >> It was quickly rectified. Thank you. It was definitely uh a team effort to make sure we got that. Um some additional highlights I want to share with you. Uh NGHS participated in a couple of different activities that benefited groups in our community. Um the first was Valentine's cards for
senior citizens. Um those were all sent out to local senior citizen groups. Um and and the big thing with the Super Bowl of Karen, it was sponsored by MJHS um brought in about a thousand items um for two local food pantries. So that was pretty exciting. We it was a competition in the home rooms and whoever raised more was able to burn a little treat in their home room. So a lot of kids and families donated um items for that purpose. Um, and then the final thing I just wanted to share, uh, March 27th is our semiformal, um, HMS student council, uh, met, um, last week, uh, prior to break and decided that the theme will be masquerade. Tickets will be $7. So, more details will follow with that. >> Any questions? >> Okay, thank
you. >> Thank you. Hello everybody. I don't have much to discuss this week. Um, but some good things in athletics. Uh, one of our students, Jude Gerbeck, he's a sophomore. Uh, he is only 20, I think it's 27 points away from,000 points in his basketball career as a sophomore. Um, so that is amazing. Hopefully, uh, tomorrow they play Portville in the playoffs. Hopefully he can get that tomorrow and get that up. the the hard part about the thousand point record is it doesn't go up till after you graduate on the wall because we don't know how many points you get. So you're recognized after but it's a big uh thing for him right now as a sophomore. >> What's his name again? >> Jude Gerbeck. >> Okay. >> Um the girls team unfortunately lost so
they're out of the playoffs but like I said the boys will continue. They play tomorrow at Portville if anyone wants to take a drive down to Pennsylvania. Um if you're interested the unified bowling team is going to have their senior night on Wednesday at the Willows. Uh it's going to start around 3:45 or 4:00. They do a they're going to have um pizza here and then go there and do their senior night with the other team and then they'll compete in their match. Um and the unified bowling team, if you don't know, it's not a uh sectional sport per se, but it uh it's a sport that brings in students with disabilities and general le students to compete together to build friendships and different things. Uh uh it's big in a lot of schools around
the area. We do the polar plunge with that as well. Um, and so our unified bowling team is the one that's gonna be doing it for this uh month. They're doing their senior night on Wednesday. Um, and then I've been working hard with the tech department. So kudos to them and uh Christopher and Austin. We are trimming down software and things that we don't need. Looking at the data reports um to help with the great budget slimming of of 26 27 as Britney called it. Um, and going through and looking at um what we need for that kind of stuff. and then working um they've both been working with me and Scott on uh projects relating to the capital project and security. >> Any questions for you? >> Thanks. >> Thank you. [clears throat] >>
Hello everyone. Uh just a few quick updates from my office. Uh first I'm happy to share that the parent um network of Western New York is hosting a free family information session at the Holland Elementary School in the library um on March 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 uh for a session called what is the IE for families of school age children. The flyer was shared on parent square and it's also on Facebook and there's a registration link to the sign up as well. And then um the Edmonton and I have been uh finalizing the plans for the superintendent's conference day on March 13th. It's going to be a really busy day. Uh the first half is going to be um targeted professional development sessions. Uh there's a lot of different things um for different roles.
Um for example, um training I'm [clears throat] ready, diagnostic tool, curriculum and standards alignment for math and science. Uh data warehouse usage for teachers so that they can see and download their um regions reports and then use that to um help with their instruction. And those are all hosted by um Erie 1, Erie 2. uh Bosey's trainers. There's also going to be some sessions led by our staff. Um and there'll be time for our collaborative team planning within the departments to focus on those new um initiatives and um their own procedures and curriculum within their teams. We're also going to offer a CPR certification course again. And the second half of the day is going to be um wellness. So we have um Daddy Clark who has put together the wellness fair again. This year
we have I think it's up to 34 vendors now. Um and the last hour from 3:00 to 4:00 will be open up to the community. Um in addition to the fair, we have some staff members who have volunteered to host uh events um within our spaces uh to help connect with others and revitalize and energize everyone. So it'll be it'll be a really fun day. >> That's it for me. Question of the elementary school, >> the wellness fair. I think high school gym high school gym. Thanks. >> Thank you. Um, >> today was the first day for our new director of transportation, uh, Scott Murphy. He starts very early and we want to make sure he comes back tomorrow, so he's not here, but just want to make sure that we're welcoming him to the
district. Um, we did receive the NRA Foundation grant, so thanks to Kelly for her help on that cuz I had to ask her a lot of questions for the application, moving back and forth on some some signoffs, but we were awarded that in the amount. um expected grant value of $63. So that was good. And then February a runs, no surprises, no new changes, nothing different. Um there's rumors of an additional 1% that we might see on foundation aid. Hopefully Mary Mary Joe can speak to that on the advocacy piece, but nothing new aside from that. Any questions for me? >> Thanks. Um I only have a couple things too. Um, when we were in the facilities meeting, I mentioned to Scott to start having David send pictures to our PR person that's filling finishing
up the year's to do little video clips and pictures of ongoing work so people are aware, you know, the paperwork project. We're actually doing the work and what's happening. Um, I have been back and forth with Terion regarding the SRO. He's going to send me a tenative contract. So, we'll look at it and, you know, see where we're at for that for next year. Um today I walked through um two of the buildings. I ended up going back because I had coffee with Kathy. They're ongoing and I went over to the bus garage. Um Scott was going to come today and he ended up having a personal issue that he had to leave but he was here all day um making a transition with um Jay. I really have to thank Jay and Sharon um
because Jay was away and somehow we still managed to run everything. you know, Jake called me. I think I don't know whatever day was supposed to be dead last week to see if we were going to send our athletic trips out and everything and things worked out. So, um things [clears throat] things went really well and I'm very grateful for that. Um I am having Sarah set up quarterly labor relation meetings like we used to do. So, we have contact unions invite the administrators. Um and then they've asked that we meet um a little more regularly. So, we're going to start meeting weekly and then every other week we're going to bring all the supervisors in to to meet. So, we make sure you know we improve our communication across the district. The budget is
ongoing. Obviously, it presents challenges, but um we're we're working on very strict diets and we're getting there. We're slowly, you know, taking some things away and figuring it out and hopefully we're going to bring you a better news and a better balanced budget. Um, we figured it really for a presentation today, we didn't have anything really to much different to share with you. Um, and just a reminder that I will be going to the advocacy conference in Albany. So, I leave Sunday morning. I'll be Wednesday morning. >> Okay, I think that's it. >> Thank you, >> Grace. Do you have anything you'd like to share with us? >> Uh, yeah. Miss Jinger, who's the senior class adviser, asked me to give a report on our senior trip, which was just after our last trip. Um,
the trip was a lot of fun. Um, she also sent out a survey to all the students that went to kind of like give their feedback. Um, there's 21 responses, which is like a little over half the kids that went. Majority students gave the trip four stars and some given 30. And then a quarter of students said that skiing was the best part. And then about half said they'd recommend a similar trip. And then the other half said they might recommend a similar trip. A quarter of the students said they want the triple blue extendable. But overall all of the responses were very positive. Um the trip was it was no Disney, but for a quarter of the price I would say I've had. Um other than that, Twirl um was a couple weeks ago.
That was it was a good show. That was a lot of fun. The one coming up is Mr. Holland and that's it. >> Thanks. >> Is there Yeah, that's >> there's a lot of girls signed up for it. >> And the Spanish trip went well. I heard today I saw Jen Brier when I was walking around. Yeah, the the world language took a trip to Spain over the break. Um, they made it back in time. They almost missed their connecting flight to try all the way back, but they had a wonderful time in Spain while they were there. >> I just wanted to say officially welcome to Kathy and her new title of superintendent of schools, no longer interim with her approval of new contract. Now I have to be a risk for that. I
can't pretend anymore. >> Yes, that's true. Uh discussion items. Triple H ceremony next on the list. There's it's just for us to discuss. >> Yes. >> So maybe a little overview at first. We started this. It seemed to be well attended in the beginning. Um I think it kind of wait like everything else. Sometimes we have to change things up to make them more interesting again. And my understanding is and Sue Britney and the administrators can speak better to this than me that the last few years we've kind of been I guess disappointed like for the amount of work that has gone in. So, [snorts] we want to continue to do these things. And we certainly want to recognize all of our people for all of the wonderful things, but maybe it needs to be
done a little differently or a little different format or maybe venues where people are already coming. I don't know. Maybe it's a busy time of year. People have sports kids that are, you know, graduate. I I don't I I don't know. But we thought we should talk about it because it's getting close. So we want to be planning for it um and try to figure out how we can make it um better attended, better received and we can really recognize people when people are around, you know, they can see that. So I've had conversations individually together with the administrators. I think everybody has ideas. So I think I'm going to like kind of share what's been going on and some ideas you might have. Well, I mean, we've kind of talked that some of the
student aspects of it could possibly be done. Um, academic night, um, a lot of people are there, families are there, students are there, you know, recognize your top 10. Um, recognize your sports assignees. Those are probably the two big things with the students. Um if we could do, you know, like the years of service, possibly opening day in the beginning of next school year. Um that way all the staff's there, you know, rather than a few I mean you might you might have 10 10 people for you know five year whatever and two or three of them show up. So, I mean to me it's like the percentage of people who are invited that come whether it's I mean everybody's busy you know um like Kathy said that time of year usually the night we
have it there's something the night before there's something the night after people are just go you know and families are busy too so I would like to see it [cough] [clears throat] somehow moved around we don't want to not recognize people um But we just figure out a different way to do it. >> So the years of service thing, I think people really do want those pins. I don't know that anybody's enamered with their kids who, you know, really cares that much, but they want the recognition. But I guess our thought is unless you can think of a different way or a better way at opening day, at least everybody's there. So other staff members see all of them, whether it's our support staff or our faculty, they see that we recognize these things, right?
and hopefully then you know we don't >> their family and friends. >> So that's a good question. That's why we said we have to have the discussion. I don't know. Do we invite them you know for a short period of time in the morning like when we send the invitation? I don't know. I don't I I wouldn't be opposed to that. You know kids are not here. Um it's not an issue. Um so I think those are the things we need to think about. Like if we're going to change this up like you said family and friends, how do we address those situations? Are there other things we're not thinking or that we're missing that, you know, I know why we started it and and you really initiated it, Kelly. I I remember and I
thought it was a great idea and I think it's a great night, but when everybody's not there and hardly anybody shows up, it don't I don't know that it feels good to the people who are getting something, right? >> I don't know. But tell me, >> you don't want my opinions. >> I know. I know you don't want my opinions. >> No, I do want your opinion. Oh, I mean we we set this up that was supposed to have music and all this stuff. And you saw what happened last year. No music. You know, we had to ask kids to come and present. So, we were very, you know, very it was nice that one of our seniors came and sang on our own behalf that our students could showcase it. We've asked to have
Mr. Holland be able to come and at least play his presentation. You know what I mean? And, you know, to give, you know, the queen's pageant, you know, any of that presentation back to them. >> You know, >> I know it's disappointing that we can't get I totally agree. we should be showcasing. >> We said put on a calendar that there would be no sports at all on that night so that we could do it and every time we put a calendar and then somebody moved something. I know we can't do anything with sectionals or any of that anything else but our regular sporting events we should have been able to change and so then people >> I share the same frustration. I just try to figure out how we can do it so that
we're not dealing with all of that begging people to come and help us showcase what they're doing because they're busy and they can't or whatever and that at least the people who are getting some kind of award being honored for tenure or whatever the situation in retirement have an audience because I feel bad, right? Like I felt bad this year like nobody's there for them. >> Well, it's just like that letter we just got from the parent. I mean, we used to have these awards and all that. And now some of these awards they hand out in high school in in the classroom, not even so that anybody else sitting next to them, even though you come into your home room, oh, here's your award for whatever you got. There's no acknowledge. >> And maybe
that's another discussion to have, you know, like where are we doing those things? And and can those be moved to certain other nights like awards nights or graduation or whatever it is that we think. Um, but I I think collectively we need to have the discussions and we need to figure out what we can do to generate some enthusiasm here because it seems to not okay. That isn't why this was started. This was started from a a good place and wanting to recognize people and to want to show them that we value them, right? So, um you spoke with you talked to people who are getting tenure who are retiring. >> No, I haven't. what they look like kind of, you know, like what would your ideal situation >> ask? >> And also um athletic
sightings in those listed, right? >> Yeah, that would have. Anybody else have any ideas? >> Well, I just think with the with like you said, Sue, with the kids, it's just easier to get them all on one night. It's hard during the It's the end of the year. I can see the conf the conflictions and everything, but it's just easier to have it the kids, especially your top 10, your military signers and your athletic signers that they just come on one night. There's no reason you couldn't merge those two events together. And there isn't no reason that we can't make that event a little bit more, you know, souped up. I mean, I know it was supposed to be our event and it it very much, you know, I I think it should be our
event, but it just hasn't worked out that way and I don't really know how to make it any easier to be honest. >> No, you're right. It was the whole idea here was for the board to recognize them. >> I mean, there's teachers that have said that they don't care. They don't want to be recognized. So, there's that. I mean, that's it is what it is. Who cares at the end of the day? My question was, >> but I think I mean East Aurora recognizes their people at their opening day, which I think is great because all the staff is there and then they can all stand up. If they choose to stand up, they choose. If they don't, they don't. Then the ball's in their court, I guess. I don't know. But like I
see where Kelly's passion, everything, and the passion coming from behind it is great, but you you can't be begging people to do stuff. It just >> that's what we did last year. >> I know it just >> it just is it's it's kind of sickening. >> All right. So, >> I'd like to hear more from you. I would love for you to send me some ideas if you have them. I'm happy to chat with you. We have a a cabinet meeting this week. I think we're all going to talk and try to figure out and maybe I'll I'll put something out that are ideas and let let's figure out what else we can try with the understanding that the event for recognizing the staff really is a board event and that's the idea behind it
and that's has to be said that evening that the idea behind this was because the board wants to value and recognize the people that work for it which is only natural right if we worked for a company we would be doing this. Um, so let us think of some things, try to figure out. >> Well, we would we would still be present on opening day for that. >> Not all of us are going to take off to build, >> right? >> Not all of us are a >> Well, the majority of we've always been. So this last year was the first time I don't think we was four >> four. >> I wasn't here. So what what's involved in that? What is what is it? We set up a we set up a night that
you know all of you know every >> is it five or 10 years you know the acknowledgement of service every five >> what what do you guys what do you guys do before >> they acknowledge them they little gifts they're getting for them they bring them up on stage they shake their hands you and then the top 10 seniors and then you know this um this uh military signing any sports signing you know they type of stuff you know and then we've had a couple of um class members thing, you know, to showcase their talent. In the past, we've had the music kids that come and play, you know, so we're following kind of off of what Pioneer had done, you know, like they just made a big grand thing to really thank to people,
you know, to acknowledge them, you know, cuz we have some, you know, bus drivers have been driving for 40 years and we wouldn't know them if we saw them on the street unless, you know, which is unfortunate. Yeah. You just don't see them, you know, or teachers that have been here this long that people don't know have been here this long or support staff. So, >> we're open to ideas. We want to do this, but we we just want to revive it somehow. I don't know. >> Yeah. >> I think it's hard to get people out. I mean, honest, like I said, it's we want to recognize them and you're inviting them, but a lot of them aren't showing up. To me, that's the frustrating part >> because we're doing the same amount of work
whether, you know, 10 people come to be honored or, you know, 50 come to be honored. >> You know, I that's what I think you should have. >> What would their ideal situation just like they just want a gift card? >> We can't do cards. All right. >> I say, you know, we start I I mean, I think the pins seriously like the gifts that, >> you know, the situation we're in, >> you know, the gifts aren't being used. I'll tell you, I've never seen any picked up. >> Yeah. I mean, I've had people give it back to me and be like, >> I I just won't use it. So here you >> very some of them might not even want something you know >> I think the people that want the recognition are the
ones that show up. >> Exactly. Well and then like I said if if we move their recognition to the opening day then they you know >> you got attract >> it's your it's your choice if you want to stand up or not. And not only that, but you've got they're being recognized by their peers, which I think sometimes is more important than being recognized by the other kids or, you know, the people that are in the general audience. You know, if they >> somehow if they have family members >> and that that want to come, you know, especially in retirement or, you know, >> I think what Kelly said, the hard part is it's during the day and some people can't take off. I get that, but we visited this with when we have kid
events too, right? somehow the parents make it right. >> And I think if we add some more stuff to that to academic, let's say hypothetically, >> then you know what? Then some of those bigger >> um what do you call it? Awards >> that scholarships that they're giving out, they can pump those back to graduation. There's no reason that they can't give those out at graduation. >> And everybody's at graduation. >> Well, yeah. I mean, and graduation, I mean, sometimes it's the only graduation their parents are going to see. I mean, it doesn't need to be under an hour. It it should be what it is. That's just my two cents. >> So, can you send out those little survey monkeys to all your support staff that would be happy and ask their opinion? If
they don't want to have a celebration for themselves at night and want to do it opening day, then we'll show them. >> Got it. Okay. Start. We'll let you know. I'll be discussing. >> Thank you. >> We have a first read on some policies. Board of Education reviewed the following policies, made updates, and will have a second reading and motion for approval at the March 23rd, 2026 board meeting. They are concussion management, procurement, and data, networks, and security access, and cyber security incident response. They are all available on the agenda, the website, and there on the floor. They're listed for anyone that wants to review. Pretty much they're just updates to the suggestion or we looked at and just suggested from policy services >> resolve that the Holland Central School District Board of Education approved
the attached amended seeker resolution as listed in attachments. May I have a motion? >> A second. >> Second. Rush. Any >> discussion? All in favor? I. Any opposed? 7 zero. All right, we are up to committee reports. Anything new with NISPA? No, just I I traveled to Albany for a capital conference, which was great. I don't know if you guys read your email, but um I sent out a general overview of what happened. Um some of the hot topics was definitely zero emission buses. It's not definitely not gone off to the wayside like people think. It's still very much a hot topic. Um, Bill Conrad was kind of, you know, saying, "Yeah, it's not going to go away. There's energy in upstate New York." Like upstate is a wanted commodity with energy, which was very
interesting to me cuz I've not heard that before. That's must be I don't know, political. I don't know. >> And I was kind of like, okay, but have you traveled out by us? like I know you live in Tana but um by >> so they said that >> goodbye I guess you know [clears throat] it's definitely not going by the wayside and definitely will continue to stress our point amongst other rural districts that this is something that we just need time it's not it just this deadline that they have has got to go away there's got to be something um Paul Balona He's he's the one that started the bill with the waiver that um Galvin co-signed and they seem to think that that's not going to go anywhere. But I really hope that something
transpires from something because it I really think we definitely need something to help the rural districts out this way to deal with that especially with such a financial burden that it's going to put on us just to have them. And now they're saying like one district said that, "Oh yeah, well you guys have to put in chargers and stuff like that for the other buses to come." And I said, "I don't got to do nothing. Our people aren't going to vote on that." So here's where your problem is, though. Britney will tell you that the expectation is that we look like we're doing something and we have to do something and other buses will come here and they'll need to charge. So in order for example in order to be eligible for the waiver there
is a rubric that goes along with the acceptance or approval of the waiver and it's no longer sufficient just to have the study. We jumped through the first hoop which was getting that nice starter study done through Wendle Wendle through whatever. Um but that is not enough just to say that buses don't exist. Um there are other points on the rick that have to show either a failed vote um uh letters from utility companies things like that. So, we really do have to make effort moving forward with this um in order to even be eligible for the waiver that might hopefully buy us some time along the way. >> So, you want us to put it on the agenda that we'll have it failed for May? You want us to put out for a vote
now cuz we can get it failed for you in Harvey cuz we're not >> I think we're going to have to do it at some point. >> I mean, been supported and it's been voted down twice now. >> Didn't already say we don't have power. >> Yes. >> So, don't we have that? They said we could support four out of 15 runs. So SED is like, oh, they're saying this charging station. >> Yeah, >> a lot of votes in the Rochester area have gone down. I believe Franklinville uh went down last year, but it wasn't necessarily electric buses. It was just the perception that it was electric buses. Um, but it still went down. >> Well, we could put something on our bill. >> So, can can I ask this question? Did they do it
at vote time? That's >> the Franklin bill one. No, I think that was separate for a capital project. There was might have been an October or December vote. >> How expensive is it to to go? I understand. We definitely don't want to tie it to our vote that they come in just say no, no, no, no. So, we want it somewhere else. How expensive is it to just do a vote in September or October for the capital for the electric buses? >> Uh just be some legal fees and elections electors. >> So, that would be a smarter move on our part to say let's go out in September. >> Yeah. Because people get confused. They don't know. Everybody doesn't listen. They don't come to the budget hearing. I don't want somebody to think they'll vote
down our cost proposition for Do you know what I mean? >> I don't want to hear their stuff cuz I mean we could go out and put out I hate to put all the work into it, right? >> Just to go out just to be voted. No, but it's worth it's an 11 million. >> So, let's be optimistic. You know, we're in a board meeting, right? We're going to go out for a vote because we need to just like we want to query the teachers and how they want to be recognized. We need to feel out how our community feels about this truly and at the same time we need to do a little educating right because that's our job and then I think a fall vote would be a good idea. I do. >>
You don't have to do something elaborate, but we can buses >> not a project very buses. >> We have to put out that we want to purchase buses or that we want to go that way. >> Well, we this would be better to go through the to try to get the buses versus putting because if we do a project that project when it was presented just a vote. >> No, we just want to vote. We're just going to vote if they want electric buses or not. We'll look to see what other disc. >> Yeah. Look and see what other district >> Yeah. >> So what if it comes out in >> category whatever >> I mean with all the grant money out there we can buy half of us. So what other what other steps
do we need to be so that we can be set up so that we can get this except for this besides right we did this survey >> study fail vote utility company um and I can double check the rubric to get the other ones those were the three major ones that got you the most points for approval on or within the rubric >> the utility company can't we already use that because we already >> that's in our current study but it's not letters from the utility companies themselves because now so much time has passed they're also supposed to be complying ing with these initiatives. So they have to also >> they have to write the utility companies. >> It has to be like a letter on letterhead from the the utility company. Let's get them
right. >> Electricity right now is so >> it's extremely expensive. Our projections I mean our electricity our utilities this year are running high. asking us to prepay prepay um >> our invoices like our projected amounts um but our projections for next year are also coming in higher electricity is very expensive they expect anybody >> well that's just that I mean that's what we're talking about you know it's it's okay for some of the bigger districts because yeah and other districts that are in the cities I mean they don't have the the movement that we do out here and and it it was It was definitely a It was a very It was a good conversation. Obviously, >> was one of the first people to get mine, >> huh? >> Wasn't being one of the first
people to get >> Lakeshore is Lakes Shore has a lot of buses, but but again, they're not disclosing a lot of the issues that they've been having either. So, >> Christopher, um, >> but even even Lakeshore said that a lot of the grants that they got are not out there anymore. I mean, they're just buses don't work for us. There's no point. I don't like I don't know why we keep talking about the buses won't call our kids. So, why would we even say we're going to buy them? They won't call our >> exemptions right here. >> Yeah. >> So, [snorts] I just started plugging so you can see the the questions and how much >> they're just proving due diligence, right? >> Right. That's what they want you to go through the motions. >>
We we do all our community, we need to see where [clears throat] they're at. >> So, the biggest point um the most places you can generate points obviously are contractor limitations and that's currently the ability to purchase the buses that meet your needs and then the things like a voter proposition funding denial, the utility upgrades that is also pretty significant. The supply chain like um so you have to >> I'm not really sure what other [laughter] factors are to be fair. couldn't just get a letter from the bus company. You ask them, "Hey, we want to order 10 buses. When will we get them?" And then they're going to say, >> they want 10 buses that can do our roots. >> Let's be very clear that they can do our responses. They >> say do
not exist. >> Yeah. >> Or didn't exist two years ago. >> They said four rooms could be scroll down. >> Sorry. >> Scroll [clears throat] down. >> I don't know what ones, but the ones don't try to fail. I know it's just >> the ones around town, >> was it not? >> Yeah. No, that's fine. >> It was just Yeah, it's the highest bill possible when we went through it at >> But yes, >> for for a while our busing study carried us and that's just not going to be on its own. They're not >> Well, you can't buy a bus if the public doesn't approve it, right? >> Yes. That's why it has to be for approved, >> right? So, >> so we get put a vote out for two buses. it gets down,
they don't go. >> That gets us, I think, at least two points, right? Voter denial. >> But even if you even if they said you have to do electric buses and we still have to get the public to approve it, and they don't. >> Yeah. The state has been very quiet on what happens. >> So >> that's that's been asked up, down, left, right, and center. And the state has not provided any kind of guidance as to what happens when we can't comply because our voters >> are easy. We get a couple letters to vote for a bus purchase. Well, I think let let's let's start with a couple of things because we need to do our due diligence. Start with a couple topics on there, maybe the vote and, you know, get try to
get the letter from the company, right, the utility company, and then we'll start [snorts] down the list. Um, foundation aid was talked about, but um, a lot of the people um, the gentleman from Benadetto's office and um, from Galvin's office and um, Paul Alona and I can't remember the other guy we talked to, but they all say that they're she the governor is trending in the same path that she did last year. They're almost they can't say it, but they they're very I think they're assuming that she's going to give us more increase in the state aid. It won't be much, but at least it'll be something. Um so that will be good because they're trying to um make that foundation a right, but I don't know. Is there any way to make it right
really realistically? Um and then the other hot topic was UPK. UPK, I guess. Um, if you listen to the governor's proposal, she's she's wanting to move the the uh $5,000 to $10,000 per per student in UVA, and she's really wanting to push that, which is great, but I, you know, I don't know how much more we can do here. We've already got two full-time classrooms. >> Yeah. So, we've talked about that um with Kelly and looking at ideas way to support the existing classrooms that we have and that >> those are whether it's you know additional support on the special ed side or on the aid side and that's flexible enough where it doesn't have to be built into the budget where >> if the budget's if the state budget isn't passed by the time
our budget has to be passed but that's easy enough to go out for postings for in the spring summer. I will tell you we were one of the only two of there's only there's only two districts that went out of all of us that have put their kids on buses. We we a lot of them were like you put your four-year-olds on the buses. I'm like yes we do. They ride every day and >> and they're not electric. >> Yeah. Yes. >> And they're like wow and the half get some >> Yeah. Even that when we did the half day program, we still let them ride in the morning and the parents picked up the afternoon. >> And they're like, "You're kidding." Like, "No, >> it's doable. What is it doing? It's just adding more
to your >> just it makes more for your transportation." But >> in the end, it's not it's not saving you or or it's not it's not it's all in your transportation. It's not They all think that it's going to cost a million dollars to transport them to school. I'm like, "Come on now. How do they get your kids to school now? Especially if the kid has a sibling. Ser like like they were making it way too like I don't know like okay kids >> and then they brought up three-year-old program and I'm like well that makes it really interesting because here's the deal. You can't get kids to school on a bus without a car seat when they're three. So now you're getting into dicey water about expectations of how the districts are going to
handle this child care initiative, especially um with um and actually it's unfortunate that that isn't our focus to get the younger kids in here and to figure out how we can help aid, you know, with some kind of funds to support the families and to get the buses with the seats, you know, the car seats and have them be affordable. They're sometimes misguided. >> Yeah. I will say, you know, just from personal experience, the only thing I if we could do anything is to do before and after school for those little ones because a lot of parents scramble and I know I've put quite a few kids on the bus for through the years. Um, you know, that would be like a tree wish list, but that's also presents. We've talked about it how we're
going to address the classrooms and the insurance we have to and every time you talk to somebody about it, it becomes a bigger nightmare. >> Yep. So that was like >> absolutely a great idea. >> So it's all good. It's all good discussions. It was great. We had meeting after meeting after meeting, right? Our whole morning was packed and it was nice cuz we talked to a lot of the people not their we talked to a few chief of staffs but we actually talked to the people themselves which is great. are assembling them. And um so it definitely makes it nice when you're when you can talk to them face to face. Um we had two students join us from Akran and the one [snorts] girl, she's doing a reading program out there. I was
going to get her brochure and I didn't get a chance to get a brochure, but she was very >> Yeah, she's a she's a junior in a >> They have two student reps on their board and they both joined us and they got >> happier. >> So, I was like, "Wow, I was quite impressed." So, um it was nice to have them stock. >> Yeah, I know. That's what I said. [laughter] She's she's work she's helping us with the finances. But yeah, so that's it. There's a delegate assembly meeting unfortunately Thursday that I cannot make it to if anybody wants to go. I have my son's championship hockey game >> at Key Center. So I'm not going. >> I don't know who it is who my alternate is. It's me. I don't know. >> Can
we Is there a way we can have that listed somewhere on like >> somewhere? Do you have a committee list somewhere? >> I'm sure somewhere even we put it up on like on our >> put in the back board >> in our library. >> Yeah. >> We're sitting here talking. >> It's you. >> It's me. >> It's you. feel like I have something. >> I'm not joking. Literacy for kids at the elementary school. >> Oh, yeah. You're right. >> Reading is important, right? No. >> It's very important. >> Um policy. We had a couple new first reads this evening. Uh nothing negotiations, nothing on there, uh nothing transportation, uh nothing new tech plan. um finance and audit. Nothing new yet. We'll be meeting soon um and facilities. Uh we had a meeting today to go
over the the uh capital project where everything stands. Um things are continuing to run uh well under expected bids. Um able to complete some extra things that were on the the wish list as far as taking care of the the buildings. That's great. Anything else? Um, [snorts] we had our stage inspection. They said it went really well. There's nothing major. It's just going to cost $80,000 to fix what we do. >> Drop the bucket. >> Wait, the curtains. >> Was it the rigging inspection? >> The rigging. >> Okay. >> It was funny cuz the way it was worded, it said there were no nothing major found. >> They were expecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs. It was only >> It only came in at 80 possibly. It's that's not bid yet. This just
a >> [clears throat] >> It just seemed funny. There was nothing wrong. But it's going to cost you coloring um wrapping of the hallways in the high school. So they showed us some pictures. So when we get them before the ones that weren't here, so you could take a look at some ideas to just brighten up the walkway coming through. Are we still doing the vinyl? >> The vinyl doesn't seem like the way to go. There's there's some spots of vinyl >> possibly for some logos, but it doesn't paint. >> I would think painting would be better anyway, right? can be touched off. >> So, I I walked with Scott. I've been out there with Matt. I've been out there with Jason. And I think at the end of the day, if that paint is
going to adhere, it is a much better option because as much as we might like how that vinyl looks on the lower portions, as soon as it starts chipping, we're not going to like it at all. And it's going to cost us a lot of money to take care of. And if Scott's crew can actually touch up paint, and that happens once every five years, it's not the end of the world. I I think that and Kelly Hel pointed out that I'm pretty boring. Everything would be white. She's absolutely correct. [laughter] But like if we paint that bottom wall on the right side when you walk in to the Pearl Street entrance, right? >> Yeah. >> And we paint the top wall white and they do some vinyl. Like they can do whatever we want.
They can do Dutchman, they can do Holland, you know, but do something like that um in design on there. Um, and do the same as you move along. I think it won't be like a ton because after a while it doesn't look nice. The vinyl it starts to chip. It gets to be like a lot and then you're going to say, "Why don't you do this?" >> Could it be something that um that the our kids could do? Like >> no, not this. Um maybe if they take out the lockers. They had that discussion. Um and we filled it in somehow. It probably almost looked like an indented picture like the wall outside wall would be the frame because it would be indented if we filled it in. And they mentioned I mean why not
have the art students do a mural there? I mean our our kids do great things. >> Probably seem very tall >> to do something like that. >> So we'll see. They'll send you pictures. I think they have a few. So they'll send them to you one of these guys will push them out look at them. >> Okay. We have some upcoming events up on the board. >> Uh then we have some upcoming meetings next month. No second to the floor. Uh round table. Grace. Anything else? Okay. top Russ. >> Yes. There's one more thing. PTO fish fry and basket raffles coming March 13th. Same day as wellness day. So the pre-sale is going on today for pre-sale. >> Friday wellness day. [laughter] >> What is the time for wellness day? >> 3 to 4 >>
for the community. I have this question because I asked why is it from 3:00 to 4:00 that we want people to take off of work to come in to go to wellness day like why is it changed so last year it was changed to an earlier time and all your people who work can't get here >> so who sets us up you know who are the vendors that come like why why are we doing it at 3:00 >> Gabby's in charge since I I I don't know like it was different when I was here before you're right it used to go into the evening I don't know when that changed or how Can we just find out? Cuz like you said, it's from 3:00 to 4. So the people who are working like some of
the people have just like [snorts] we've always gone. We can't go now because it's from 3:00 to 4. >> Yeah, I don't know the answer. >> Well, if you can't make it to that, you can come to the fish to pick up the fish for >> That's really good place. [laughter] >> Where's the fish? >> At the middle school. Everything's at the middle school. >> And we're having a magician this year come to um >> make the fish disappear. Yeah. Yeah. It's going to make magic for the fish. >> Who's doing the fishing? >> Pro. We We tried to get at St. Ch, but they weren't equipped enough yet to handle that. Hopefully in the future we'll be able to, which will be really nice. >> And what time is that? >> It's We start
serving at 4 and then you can get take out, too. But that basket raffle will be there, too. I don't have anything. >> Um I just wanted to mention in case anyone's interested in the committees and where we're going with those. Last month we reached out to um school district staff and administrators to gauge their interest. I know we've been going and getting lists of u community members and parents who want to be involved. So uh last month we went internal to the school. Um, we have an administrator for each of the committees. Um, and a little bit lighter than expected response from other school staff and teachers, but we have a couple more people who would like to be involved. So, final rosters and emails about that to pick some uh starting meeting dates
will be going out in the next couple weeks. That's all. No executive session. Okay. Then we will adjourn. Result the meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. May I have a motion? >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion? >> All in favor? Any opposed? >> 70.
