Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Our third third quarter is full steam ahead. Robotics was away this past weekend at their competition. While the team did really well, they did not advance, but Mr. Van is excited that the club is back up and running after a year of hiatus, and they will continue to grow. Casual day is on March 26th. Senior Reker met with the students to explain the leadership

opportunity. Tomorrow's leaders today applications are open and available to sophomores. Dr. Tion has emailed the class of 2028 with links to the application. Students interested in this leadership opportunity should follow the directions provided by leadership lacana. And that's all for this month. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. >> Okay. Dr. Schaefer, do you want to have the uh public comments before the superintendent's report? >> Yep. Sure. Okay. So, we're going to have public comments now. If anyone would like to speak to the board, uh, please come forward and >> or if anybody like to model for the board. I I think we have one out here. >> Here we go. Okay. >> Looking sharp. >> So, this is the sample they sent us of the new uniform. We made some small adaptations to it.

We're getting rid of the buttons. Um, and they also sent me some drawings. >> Can I take a picture? All right. >> I was going to anyway, but I just >> You didn't have a choice. >> Did Did you have to ask for volunteers to uh >> No, it was a sign. >> Yeah. So yeah, it was an assigned job >> here. Mr. Umbrella said that he'd be happy to go. >> He goes, "Oh, yeah. Have you been here for two major leaning to the one on the right with the details actually. >> How how does that kit feel compared to the other uniforms? >> Um, it feels pretty similar. Um, it's like a similar material, just like lighter, almost like thinner, but like still like it's it feels similar. >> Okay. It doesn't feel

very different. >> Okay. I'm gonna ask a dumb question. If you get rid of the buttons, how does it stay on? >> Um, there's a zipper underneath. >> Got the book. >> Okay. >> Looking at the buttons, you're looking at the stripes. >> So, thank you. >> That one's a zip. So, they did the buttons on the buttons off. Um, they may sash heavier. to us. The only thing we're worried about with the removal is you know we have kids show up without pants to work out whether they should stitch it button but we thought it's not on you know St. with a greenmorial init. >> Oh, thank you. Let's >> when is um once you set all these details when would you get the new uniforms? >> Oh, we're hoping for July. >> July.

>> And then uh a little bit of uh fitting as it were. >> Um no, they'll measure all the students before they start making so that saves fan boosters a lot. >> Well, I would come up probably in the next month to do all the fittings. They would start making them, but then how many of each size they would be making? >> It's years three and four. >> That's when the first year is nice. The second year then then you're busy. >> Yeah. After that we have to because we resize everybody every year. >> So like June and July are not fun. >> This year will be a little bit easier. >> Any other questions? >> I will Anthony >> after >> Anthony look good in the hat. Okay, >> I will say I went

to the bingo event last year. Uh Rod and Me and Azar were winning everything. I lost, but it's a it's a it's a great event. >> We would love if anybody wanted to volunteer to call some numbers. >> Anthony did a good job calling numbers last year. >> I I lost big. Well, thank you very much. >> Oh, >> is there anyone else who would like to address the board? >> Mark, I I shouldn't have asked. >> Why? Why are you pushing? >> I'd be glad to give my time to uh the business manager. >> If he has a report on where we are with the budget, >> not sure. We're about halfway through the year, aren't we? >> Yeah, we're already thinking about next year. Mark, >> I'm sorry. >> We're about next year.

We got one leg in next year, one leg in this year. >> If he wants to talk about next year, I'm all in on that one, too. So the the process is we actually start the budgeting process in the first part of the year and work on the budget and about this time maybe another month we have a preliminary budget for next year because that has to be submitted approved and submitted to the state by June 30th. >> So it has to be >> I thought that started next month but >> well it's already they're already working on it. So from last year to this year, from last year's budget to this year's budget was a little over a 7% increase. >> What you budgeted? >> Yeah. Uh Jim, >> that's 48. We don't have

this year's budget yet. >> I do. >> The 2425 budget was 57 million. >> Okay. The 2526 is 62 million. A little over 62 million. >> That's the That's the current budget including contingencies. >> Yes. >> So that has a uh about a million six imbalance, which >> that's the way it was budgeted. >> You budgeted an imbalance >> and made it up with with a uh uh pulling some money from the general the general fund. Correct. >> When we passed it the print >> No, that that would set the stage for >> Oh, sure. Sure. >> for a comment. >> Mark, the other thing um in each month's financial uh packet, if you look at it, there's also a budget to actual. >> There is. >> Okay. Just >> I realize we're we're halfway

through this year. Not everything's going to be 50%. >> Just the way that they >> part Yeah. Part of the problem with the with the numbers is timing. >> I won't hold you to account on the 50%. But the u the imbalance would be something you'd be working at from now to the end of the year. >> Yeah. Yeah, we're we're we're constantly working on that. So, when we pass our, you know, the the the preliminary budget, we we usually are looking at a deficit and over the last four years or so, we we close that up. Sometimes we close that up in ways that we wish we didn't. So, for instance, staffing, it's really difficult as compared to uh previous years like 10 15 years ago. uh we didn't have um the gaps that

we do in education uh relative to certified uh folks. So sometimes uh we'll we'll catch some savings due to that. Sometimes we'll get some headwinds with the investments like what we uh we we've seen before. Sometimes we'll get a really strong uh headwind. So over the last two years our um medical's gone up by 25%. Right. So, um, you know, we do our best, uh, to, uh, do at the same time as the board had to pass the budget. So, the board passed our budget for fiscal year 26 in June and we were flying blind until >> I recall, >> yeah, November. Uh, and and and and we do our vest that way. and uh when we we do that gap. So you could probably look historically over the last probably the decade. We're very

conservative and uh fortunately and uh you know I I give thanks to our our legislators and Governor Shapiro um they have provided us with with more funds but we have to be very conservative because we just don't know where that'll land. So that's why you start to see some of those numbers and it and it corrects throughout. >> Two other things I wanted to run when you reported um last year's budget was basically flat. There was a >> when we you mean when we finished the year? >> When we finished the year. >> Correct. Correct. >> Basically flat, but there was a transfer to the capital reserve. >> Correct. >> Once the money goes into the capital reserve, can that be brought back to the >> No. can only be used for capital projects. >>

So the surplus that we achieved last year >> is now going to be used for capital projects. >> Correct. Correct. So as we think about financing >> that's okay. Yeah, >> I understand that. >> I I think another not to interrupt, but I think another part of that also went to >> uh the medical >> that was an increase, right? >> And and so not all of the we didn't go >> we didn't we didn't put it into the the um >> we talked about >> the medical, right? So, as we talk about, you you've heard me say this, like the the financing of the bonds for uh the middle school, we needed quite a bit of runway to do that. Obviously, we have an act one index and we can't uh raise it above

that. So, we took that surplus, we moved that into cap and then we'll use that money to, you know, fund the middle school. >> We're partners. >> Yeah, we are. I just want to make sure we're on the same page. The other thing I wanted to mention was the last month you approved adopted the ordinance for the act one >> 4.1% correct. >> Does that seem realistic to you? >> We what we adopt is the and really the board doesn't have any choice in the matter um with the with the the budget because we don't uh qualify for any exceptions uh because we now get adequacy money. So if you you get the additional money that we got from the state is uh put into uh a formula where it's it's essentially it's what they

call equity dollars and they and they uh label that as adequacy. So if you receive adequacy money where we did in the tune of a little over 500,000 and change you can't use uh any of the exceptions. So what we said when we pass out was we will not go over the index. That just my last point I'll sit let Jim I think of u an evil word when I think of how much we do and we do a tremendous amount and I'm the guy that quote throws the cold water but you guys do a tremendous amount. The evil word that I hate to mention is referendum. That that that is something we considered when we looked at the project because obviously if we could raise taxes more above what the index would allow us,

it would give us the ability to borrow more. So the idea would be you'd have a a referendum to go above the the act one. >> There might be a lot of resistance to that. >> If you look at the history when we looked at it and Mr. Razar can probably talk about there have been >> there's never been a successful >> there's never been one >> referendum in the state of Pennsylvania >> there has state college one I'm sorry there was one >> there was one >> I mean when you double >> there has there hasn't been many tried actually there's only been a few attempts >> it was in state college >> their second they failed on their first right >> they failed on their first attempt and then they >> I'm sorry

>> they failed on their first attempt I believe and then they brought it again and it passed >> but I I think that's the only one. >> Well, >> that really speaks to your some of your comments very early on. >> I'm sorry. >> That really speaks to some of your comments very early on when you were expressing concern about the size of our project and our ability to fund it. I understand that, >> you know, and u basically what the board decided is we we're going to do a project as big as we can we believe we can afford without putting the district and the community at risk. >> You're almost 50 million and last year you took 30 of it. >> Are there plans to take more of that this year. >> Yes,

we'll be we'll be taking a look at um uh an amended draw schedule. So, we take a look at um you can see what we have left I think in that construction budget probably 21 million is there like 21 million and change in that? Uh so then we'll project out uh using the draw schedule how long uh that will take and then we'll take a look at uh the next step whether that's borrowing or using uh capex or the cap reserve >> that our word still hangs out there. >> Would you say I I'm not sure what you mean when you say it. >> But what do you mean when you say it hangs out there? Like you think we should do it or you you >> I wouldn't recommend going that route. We didn't.

>> We didn't. >> So, what do you mean it's hanging out there? When you say it's hanging out there, I'm not sure. >> Well, you're not going to do it now. You can do it. >> We could do it anytime we want. You can try to do a referendum anytime you want, right? >> But we already had a very long exhaustive debate about it two years ago and we decided not to do it. >> So, to prepare for one, >> I'm sorry. >> It takes a year to prepare. >> Takes a year to prepare. We haven't had any discussions about the uh >> well and there's a pretty big cost to the district if we were to pursue it. >> Is right. So um yeah I I mean for numerous reasons analytics being at the

top of it it's a losing proposition uh each time uh the board has a fiscal responsibility to obviously um our community but some of the hidden things in that is a yes it takes about a year to do and then in Lacuana County we have a very um small office that runs elections so uh I did speak with them we would have to pay for the the referendum the ballots for that and it and it yeah it's it's it it can be it can be quite expensive >> um to do so um the there's a high likelihood that not only do you lose a referendum but you lose a lot of money uh going into it you know because you're you may put out $100,000 and then you lose >> so as I sit I'm

not going to think about referendum for Now, >> we haven't we have not as a board talked about doing a referendum for the last two years. >> That's all. >> We talked about it extensively and it's never been discussed since then. >> We we had a debate in public about the referendum too. So, if you want to go back through the um meetings that were in March, February, March of 203. >> Yes. So, we we had extensive public conversation about it if that helps. >> I was still the kid then. Well, you weren't as as >> I appreciate the time. >> Sure. >> Thank you. >> We appreciate your interest. >> Sure. Um I will uh yield my my time to uh Dr. CS who's going to talk a little bit about a fantastic opportunity

coming up tomorrow. >> Thank you. Um, tomorrow night, I'm sure that all of you are perhaps tired of your emails and text messages from me, but uh, tomorrow evening we are excited to partner with the Waverly Community House for a showing of screenagers. Um, it's a documentary about the impacts and challenges of screen time and cell phones and all of the devices that our kids and ourselves interact with. Uh so we're really excited to have that opportunity to get together as a community and talk about those challenges in our world and our lives. Um we are excited that the Waverly Community House has opened their doors to us. So we will begin at six o'clock tomorrow evening. Uh Nenah's uh Wings and Pizza have um donated some little snacks for tomorrow. The community house has

donated snacks as well. and Mets is going to do some cookies for us. So, uh we're just really excited about the opportunity to share some great information and have a space for our families to talk. Students in grades 4 to 12 are welcome to attend with their parents. >> That is it. >> Okay. Um that particular case, our next item of business would be to approve the treasur's report and approve the bills. Mrs. Carol, >> we began the month with a cash balance of 29,370,52545. We took in monthly revenues of1,222,54283. Our net dispersements for the month were $6,341,877.38 for a cash balance available of $24,251,190.90. >> Thank you very much. I have a motion to approve the report. >> So moved. >> Second >> on the motion. Any questions? >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs.

Hillbrand. Yes, >> Mrs. Kum. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Kho. >> Yes, >> Mr. Moran. >> Yes, >> Mr. Robson. >> Yes, >> Mr. Abdala. >> Yes, >> Mr. Aar. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Henderson. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Aker? >> Yes. >> 90. >> Mr. Aer, at this time I'd ask the board to consider a motion to approve the February 2026 tuition reimbursement report. >> So moved. >> Second. >> On the motion. >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Kum. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kho. >> Yes. >> Mr. Moran, >> yes. >> Mr. Robson, >> yes. >> Mr. Abdala, >> yes. >> Mr. Azar, >> yes. >> Mrs. Henderson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Hillbrand, >> yes. >> And Mr. Aker, >> yes. >> 90. >> Mr. Aer, at this time, I'd ask a vote uh the

board to consider a motion to approve the personnel report as presented. >> So moved. >> Second. >> On the motion. >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Kho? >> Yes. >> Mr. M? >> Yes. >> Mr. Robson? >> Yes. Mr. Abdala, >> yes. >> Mr. Azar, >> yes. >> Mrs. Henderson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Hillbrand, >> yes. >> Mrs. Kum, >> yes. >> And Mr. Ecker, >> yes. >> 90. >> Mr. Eard, ask the board consider a motion to approve the February 2026 volunteer list. >> So move. >> Second. >> On the motion. >> Roll call. >> Mr. Moran. >> Yes. >> Mr. Robson? >> Yes. >> Mr. Abdala? >> Yes. >> Mr. Azar? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mrs. Henderson. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Hillibbrand. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kum. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kho. >>

Yes. >> And Mr. Aker. >> Yes. >> 90. >> Mr. Aer ask the board consider a motion to approve the agreement between Abington Heights School District and the Scranton Counseling Center. >> So move. >> Second. >> On the motion. >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. Robson? >> Yes. >> Mr. Abdala? >> Yes. >> Mr. Azar? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Henderson? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Hillibbrin? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kum? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kiho. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mamm. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Aker. >> Yes. >> 90. >> Mr. Aker, I'd ask at this time that the uh board uh nominate somebody uh as the AEIO board representative. >> I'd like to nominate uh Mrs. Henderson for >> who? Henderson. >> Oh, second. You >> I thought you were going to nominate yourself. >>

No, definitely not. >> Okay. >> Oh, bless us. >> Okay. So, at this time, I would ask the board to Oh, wait. I skipped ahead. >> Go ahead. >> All right. So, uh request the board nominate Gretchen Henderson as the AEIO board representative. >> So, moved. >> Second. >> On the motion, Miss Henderson, this is your last chance to make >> good. I'm good. I'm good with it. Thank you. >> Thank you very much for your willingness to serve. >> Thank you. It's an honor. >> Okay. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Abdullah? >> Yes. >> Mr. Azar? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Henderson? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Hillbrand? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Karum? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kho? >> Yes. >> Mr. Moran? >> Yes. >> Mr. Robson? Yes. >> And Mr. Aker? >> Yes. >>

03490. >> Do this again. >> Yeah, you get to do it again. >> Okay. >> A little less exciting position. Go ahead. >> Nominating someone to represent us on the NEIU board. >> Um, at this time I'd ask for nominees. >> We did the I think she's Miss Anderson is uh holding holding down the spot vacated by Mr. Abdullah. >> Somebody second. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> I'm going to renominate him. >> Um on are there any other nominations? I close the nomination. >> Dr. Shaver, then you'd request a motion. >> Yeah, Mr. I'd ask the board consider a motion to nominate Gretchen Henderson as the NEIU representative. So second >> Henderson, once again, you have another chance to uh >> no objections. It's an honor. Happy to serve. Okay. >>

All right. Roll call, please. >> Mr. Azar, >> yes. >> Mrs. Henderson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Hillbrand, >> yes. >> Mrs. Kum, >> yes. >> Mrs. Kho, >> yes. >> Mr. Moran, >> yes. >> Mr. Robson, >> yes. >> Mr. Abdala, yes. >> And Mr. Aker, >> yes. >> 90. >> At this time, I'd ask the board to uh consider a motion to establish a student activity account for uh Morgan's message. So move >> second >> on the motion. >> Could I say a couple words? >> Absolutely. >> All right. So, um I am honored to be um the adviser for this club that we're starting at Abington Heights School District. Um basically Morgan's message, it's a national nonprofit um program that was started by um Morgan Rogers family and friends. Uh she was a

Duke lacrosse player who uh died by suicide. She basically performed at a very high level her entire life. Um and she suffered a injury where she basically had the support system but she didn't have the language to ask for help and she basically suffered in silence. So her family and friends started this foundation in her honor. Um basically you know their goal is to help students and communities rethink uh mental health through education, advocating and acting. Uh we're hoping to extend the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who are struggling um and helping make sure that every student um has someone and a support system to go to. We're working to end the stigma um of mental health in sports and beyond. And we're hoping uh the goal overarching goal is to

make sure that mental health is treated just as seriously as uh physical health. So uh Morgan's message is a peer-led program. So the club that we're having at Abington Heights is open to any and all students. Uh we also encourage those who want to take more of a leadership role can apply through Morgan's message to be campus ambassadors. So they would go through a training program uh to help them uh to help EV educate them so that they can advocate and lead conversations with their peers. Um we had we met last month during the activities period. We had over 50 students attend uh the two sessions. We've had six staff members sign up. Uh, Coach Repress and Coach Becky Davis um have agreed to be some of our coach adviserss. Uh, we're going to start

this slowly and and grow it very intentionally. And we're just, you know, this year we're going to continue to promote the program, uh, boosting the club memberships and just kind of getting the word out there. And, um, we're going to be looking to do community events. The first event that we're doing this year is a mental health dedication game. Um that will be for a girls lacrosse game on April 21st. So stay tuned. We'll have more information. So >> Thank you very much. Very interesting. Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Henderson, >> yes. Mrs. Hillibbrand, >> yes. >> Mrs. Kum, >> yes. >> Mrs. Kho, >> yes. >> Mr. Maran, >> yes. >> Mr. Robson, >> yes. >> Mr. Abdala, >> yes. >> Mr. Azar, >> yes. >> And Mr. Aker, >> yes. >> 90. >>

A bid on this uh last action item. Uh last year, if you recall, uh this about this time, we were we entered into essentially a lease agreement with Clark Summit University uh where uh we uh leased a facility for approximately uh two months. We did some maintenance work, custodial work, um paid for uh utilities. this year uh there is uh a new uh person from the community um that is leasing that out. So, we have a new agreement um with them and I worked with uh Roco Valvano and uh Patrick Murphy, the uh lease uh of the facility for this um we did receive a discount on that. And for the record, what we'll do what we do once March hits, so last year, the beginning of March was uh abnormally I'm not going to

use warm, but it wasn't as cold as previous Marches. So we, you know, we'll we'll go ahead and and make that uh make that move. But I can tell you that the kids have been for utilities, anything like this. This is just us in the uh with that agreement. So at this time, I'd ask >> Mrs. Kum. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Kho, >> yes. >> Mr. ran.
