good evening everyone and welcome to the September 12th 2022 Board of Education regular business meeting can I have a motion to open the meeting Michelle and a second from Bill all in favor that's everyone sorry it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education enter into executive session to discuss the status of collective bargaining with three District units in accordance with the open meetings law I have a motion please from Teresa and a second from savior all in favor we shall return at 7:30 thank you okay welcome back everyone to the September 12th 2022 Board of Education regular business meeting can I have a motion to adjourn our executive session and return to the regular meeting I had Teresa and Kelly all in favor that is everyone Dr AER is

out um tonight we will miss her I'm sure that Mr plansky will cover for her yes take care that okay we all rise to the pledge please I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all my is to Okay so today is September 12th 2022 it's been 21 years and a day since the events of 911 2001 unfolded it took a horrific tragedy to bring this country together at that time and for some time thereafter political affiliation age race ethnicity gender religion none of it mattered we were one as a nation now decades later it's important for us as adults who live through that day to keep the memories alive not just on

an anniversary but every day by promoting the importance of acceptance and unity it is critically important to us or for us to educate our young people who are yet to exist on what happened on that day and the days that followed it is important for us to model exemplary citizenship and respectful dialogue so that they clearly recognize we all have much more in common than we will ever be different it is beyond time for us to set aside personal agendas at all levels none of us is any more or less important than any one of our neighbors the tragedy of 911 reminded us that this is the land of the free and the home of the brave it is our charge to honor those lost by continually acting and serving such that the values and

virtues upon which this country was built remain forever intact thank you [Music] the [Music] am [Music] Ander [Music] oh God bless America my heart [Music] [Applause] that was the Huntington High School chamber choir they are incredible amaz at this time I'm going to ask that those up front and those in the audience please stand as we honor the Lost 9112 2001 with a moment of silence [Music] for [Music] and that was Emma Glascock and Liam Tucker playing Taps thank you all so much while they're all leaving I'll just remind everyone that we have emergency exits in the back and on the side and that all of our campuses are smoke free just give everybody a chance was amazing okay it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education improved min

from the meeting of the Huntington Union fre School District Board of Education dated August 29th 2022 a motion from Bill and a second from Xavier all in favor is everyone thank you we have a few FYI budget appropriation report Revenue status report that brings us to the treasurer's report it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education approved this the July 2022 treasurers report a motion from Teresa and a second from KY all in favor that's everyone thank you is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education approved the attached warrants which were certified for payment on August 31st 2022 a motion please Tom and a second from Bill all in favor that is everyone thank you okay that brings us to board member of communications

and announcements who has one Teresa I I have a couple of things um I first of all to Echo Mr Palin's wellth thought uh statements on 9911 and boy that always gets me the that uh a little closer to the mic Teresa oh um thank you for your statements I wholeheartedly agree and just you know this was the first first Sunday in a long time that 911 fell on a weekend and I had a moment to really sit with it and I just thought about the weight of um those of us who have lived through it and then Looking Through The Eyes of my children who luckily didn't live through that day but have now um inherited the results of of the division of that and so it's a really good reminder to um remember

how united we were and um to talk about that um just a couple things I wanted to mention because I wasn't here for the last meeting um how very proud I am of the facilities uh upgrades that we've been able to make and just wanted to tip my hat to you Mr plansky and Dr AER unfortunately is isn't with us today and I don't see George but um we really have to commend the work that the facilities team has done um I popped into wood hle today the the amount of work that we've been able to do internally um and utilizing um our principles and and relying on our principles to identify staff members and and people within the district who can actually um um contribute their talents it's just remarkable what we've been able

to do so hats off there um and I also wanted to commend um Miss McCoy and her team I don't know that it's widely known this uh paper um T tutoring service and academic service support that the district has um invested in for the greater good of all of our students but it's really remarkable and um I know that my own daughter and a few of our friends have have been utilizing it um and I'm so impressed um with how it's handled um um so for those of you who don't know paper um they can go through clever to access it and you can actually submit a writing assignment or a paper that you're working on and get really live feedback from uh a certified uh tutor um and the recommendations have been really um

not only helpful but um I think what it's done for for our family and families that I know who are using it is it empowers the kids to kind of look for help when their teachers might not otherwise be there and I think bolsters what the teachers are doing in the classroom and I think it also levels the playing field for those students who might not be able to stay for extra help um because of busing or or work or family um responsibilties so uh if you haven't checked it out I think it's it's a great opportunity for all students and I wanted to just thank you because I know you vetted a lot of different programs and I think it's uh this is a really good one I I would just add also another

skill that you can learn from that is um in prep preparation for college I mean having a a young college um student in my family now I see like the that skill of being able to um find a way to access help um and not being afraid to ask for and going you know I think that that's a great skill for kids to learn while they're still yeah it's and it's 247 and it's multilingual which is great all of that and also understand that if a child if a student poses a question question on the platform the tutor does not simply provide the answer the tutor prompts and makes the student do the work it was very comprehensive yeah it's a costly program and that's we want to keep it intact because I agree with

you I think it is an extraordinarily valuable opportunity for kid and kids have been taking advantage of it um we we can see what's going on it's it's a it's a safe platform it's not just we've seen it in math we've seen it in the Sciences also I got a chance to look at just today a child who submitted something in writing for the tutor to to look at and provide feedback on so this is a compre very very comprehensive service and I think at this point um we're we're going to do what we can to make sure that every high school and at least every High School Middle School child is is hooked up to this and can access it and and you're right it's multilingual and it crosses you know every segment of

this community the opportunity is there uh I want to keep this opportunity intact and keep paying for it but that is contingent upon students using it so that that's on us as well yep great Michelle you I did I had one thing um my annual plug for the PTA um for those in the room and those uh watching at home uh membership drives are going on and I've noticed uh on Facebook and social media and uh on our calendar there are a lot of exciting events finally we're doing things the way we used to do them um so please support the PTA because we they have not been able to do those things as they normally would have in years before and they have to raise money in order to give back to the students

in their buildings so please support the PTA this year great who else just like to piggyback uh on what my fellow members are talking about uh parental involvement and being involved in a child's education uh a lot of studies show how uh there's a a strong Cor relation for student uh achievement uh with parental involvement uh whether it be just checking their academic uh uh their homeworks and things of that nature and the PTA for sure there's also other opportunities where parents can get involved including uh the marching band uh being part of the support group for that robotics uh and certainly also for the booster club which is always looking for members to help out on game days and raising money for students in need uh so we just like encourage uh all parents

that are there uh that are thinking how might I get involved and help out those are some wonderful organizations to do that thanks I'm just going to add something to what you both said and remember that asking to be involved doesn't mean that you're volunteering 20 you don't necessarily have to be like a full-time volunteer you can pick one thing and just work on it for a brief period of time whatever whatever time you have is always appreciated who else all right I'm sure you have a list the list builds up several different themes here just I'm going to start on the the academic side uh just a reminder uh to the board and to the community that the individual score reports from last Spring's grade three through eight assessments are now available via the

portal as per my communication on Friday uh thank you to um Mary Beth robinet and Nancy Allard for putting together those instructions so that they are very understandable we we want to make sure that and again talking about PT it it really is great to have parental uh parent Guardian involvement at all levels in all events and participating in every activity that that exists Under the Sun but we know that's not realistic so just to H have them with the knowledge of how to access information on their child's performance and and helping them work through the process of understanding how to read these documents and access the data on their own children uh that that is something that clearly indicates parental involvement and engagement as well even if they can't participate in every meeting or

event and those reports are are a great place to start there has been a lot of publicity recently that I've shared with the board about test scores not so much at the state level but nationally on the national assessment of educational progress the nape exam which is really not a New York state phenomenon but there is just seems to be a barrage of different Publications out there suggesting pandemic did some damage on achievement and interrupted growth and progress and and our goal is this point we're going to talk a little bit about goals not specifically today uh but moving toward that is to to close some of the gaps that have been reopened and to restart the progress that unfortunately was interrupted by by a two and a half year uh bout with covid-19 I

promise I would never say that again but uh the other thing that came up and it fits into the academic side of things uh Board of regions just met today and I haven't seen the outcome in full detail yet but they are right now evaluating the process through which public school districts will be involved in determining substantially equival the level of of equivalency of private and parochial school education within schools uh in in schools or at schools within their boundaries and it has been our contention and and our point of advocacy that public schools should not be in a position where they should be evaluating every aspect of a program in a private school just because it exists within the Public School District District boundaries so this was an important meeting this morning and I

know they did pull that back a little bit because evaluating teachers evaluating level of instruction at the private parochial schools within District boundaries this has been going on for years and they pulled back on their initial proposal a proposed regulation regulatory amendments and they did have that discussion today and I do believe they came to a conclusion on how that process will move forward not instruction but the instructional program really more so the the the curriculum um I'll stop there in case there any further we're good okay uh other other things on the horizon here again we're looking at constantly monitoring finances uh obviously some things are suggesting it may not be as rosy moving forward the next couple of years particularly once the federal stimulus funding ends that program ends and we are going

to feel hopefully not as drastically as as initially thought but impacts of inflation uh they are going to carry forward over the next couple of years and we're feeling the first bit of that in the announcement of the ERS the Employee Retirement System contribution District cont employer contribution rates on the district side it's a percent of non-certificated civil service salaries that's going up from it looks like 11.6 to 13.1% and that's significant we're expecting somewhat similar uh somewhat similar impact on the teacher retirement side and health insurance is another one of those costly uh situations impacted by the by by by the recent inflationary um process and and these are things that we're going to have to look at but on a positive note and I did share this did I share it with the

board yes I did share with the board the assess valuation we we got the final number received the final number from the Town of Huntington just a few short days ago and we are in a place where the assess value in this community is higher than we budgeted now what that means is when you put out a budget that has a zero 0% tax levy increase and your assess value ends up higher than you anticipate your school taxes actually go down it's not going to be a tremendous decline but School tax school tax bills will be lower in 2223 than they were in 2122 so I thank the board and I thank Kathy who's not here tonight and our our business office staff for helping make that happen it's great great news uh that said

I really don't even want to mention this because it took on a life of its own we will be using traditional snow days in Huntington moving on um nice picture I just don't understand why that is generating so much attention let kids have fun that's the point it's part of the point and the other point is flipping to a remote day in the middle of a school year on a foul weather basis is not going to be an effective learning experience let's call it what it is especially because of the way that they require the remote dat to be had it just been put up asynchronous work that might be one thing but to kids are home on a day because of foul weather and it's snowing out they're not going to sign they're not

going to sign into I'm just going to be realistic here let let it be what it is and that is a much more productive situation for here right and you refresh the ne when the next day rolls around like I said I don't know why that is becomes New York City decided not to do that that's their decision I respect that decision why it became such issue here I answered the question in my County capacity and just gets the give is New York City under if you know is New York City have an exemption for the synchronous learning on those days or not that I know of and they don't have an exemption on the number of days that are required in in a school calendar for state aid purposes okay but um you know

again we we don't have that many school days in a given year uh I probably one of the few in the room along with the board members here that remember what Hurricane Sandy was like and I will say a number of those days having remote learning available would not have done much good because nobody had power right okay so um the idea that you it could be a bad snow day year and we can make a decision at that point to convert if needed but the idea right now is rarely do you hit that type of year and honestly on a day where weather is not Cooperative talk about inequitable access to those only who have generators uh some the communications that went out first of all thank these were two very productive conference days

leading into the school year for Huntington staff members who are equally as excited to regain that sense of normaly as are the kids and families in Huntington it's just been a it's been a very pleasant productive and happy opening um and it's a pleasure to be a part of that after the last couple of years Dr gani sent out a communication about the new elementary k35 math program reveal math just a reminder to please familiarize yourselves with that I mentioned the conference days first day first week thank you to these folks who are in the room tonight for helping just make it what it is and then make Huntington what it is uh transportation is obviously something we have to work through the first week uh folks in our transportation office Mr Hender our principles

they're here around the clock to make sure that these issues that do come up are resolved as quickly as possible it is a a very difficult situation not just in Huntington but across the board even in a monsoon yes even in a monsoon on the first day does not help in any way shape or form and that garbage bag type Poncho does not keep you very dry I'm just I'm just saying was blue uh you know again back in the spirit of of inclusivity and just getting back in the swing of things the two primary schools that had those block parties on Friday Jefferson and Southdown Miss capula Sate and Miss am IR thank you for coordinating with the help of your PTA is just a nice way to they were both jam-packed and um

it's a little buggy out there but um still a lot of fun and kids don't care so they just want to be around each other and and and eat and run around and that's what they did we have a beautiful marching band season coming up first competition coming up next weekend in Brentwood we have a number of guidance events on the horizon PTA meetings coming up across the board and just a reminder that Huntington Unity day is on Saturday there's a parade that kicks off it's not a requirement but you certainly we'd like as many people participating as possible uh parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. from Huntington High School down to Stimson middle school and there is a fair and a bunch of rides down at Stimson for the afternoon um I was at

a section 11 meeting executive board meeting earlier today and I think I've mentioned this before but it was nice to hear hunting Huntington High School publicly acknowledged as a New York state Public High School Athletic Association School of Excellence which is the academic athletic performance academic performance of our student athletes um it's been a long time coming and I'm very proud of our Athletic program and all the kids involved and just one more announcement that I believe the board is aware of our chamber choir who was here this evening actually our choir in general will be performing at Radio City Musical on Saturday November 19th in advance of the show that day so cornering some tickets but they will be available shortly that's very exciting yes very and the way they sounded tonight they are

incred it's the whole choir though it's the whole choir I'm sorry I mean chamber whole concert choir so should be a lot of fun and um we'll get the word out on on tickets an adult dead registration that's also back that starts this week right Miss mcoy yes thank you I know the flyer came home there was brochure came home registration at the high school on Wednesday and some people have been asking me um like meet the teacher night and all that it's back to the or original way we always did it or yes meet the teacher night to really get the full effect of Meet the Teacher Night parents have to be in in the buildings in the classroom so that's back in person uh the conferences however are going to be um hybrid

hybrid because that that gives parents the opportunity to get there it makes it makes perfect sense to do that okay anything you want to add oh turned off the fan it was blowing directly and it's a little chilly over here can't see that far so okay thank you okay thank you okay so that brings us to our first public commentary uh I'll give really quick quick rules because I'm not sure if anyone wants to speak but um you have three minutes if you are a member of the community or an employee of the school district please identify yourself sign in on the paper and no discussing Personnel uh by name or students by name does anybody wish to speak and there is another opportunity at the end of the meeting but I don't see anybody

standing so I'm assuming nobody wishes to speak so we can move on to our first item for discussion and action which is our building safety plans it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education adopt School building safety plans for the 2022 2023 school year um motion a motion from Tom and a second I'm M Xavier um there's probably not too many questions that we can pose on them but I just like to thank Jarrett Stein and the building principles and our districtwide safety team for um really doing some good work here and it's not done it's going to be an ongoing process and again we waited on this just because there were some meetings attended right over the summer we wanted to make sure that this was as well

informed as possible and I know um Mr Stein has been working with each of the principles there is a standard template that New York State puts out um a lot of work and a lot of detail that goes into it and it's one of the most maybe the most important piece of paper that we have probably lots of papers and and it's not public these documents are not made public primarily because we don't want things like building schematics and persons responsible roles and responsibilities out there in the event that somebody wants to grab them and grab them for the wrong reasons but uh they living breathing documents if a change is needed for any reason in 23 24 for example we need to include a remote learning plan uh little late to the party thank

you for that um addition in 2324 but there is something in there now that that addresses a a pandemic as things morph as things change these these things need to change with them okay anybody else have anything to say or add okay then all in favor that is everyone thank you okay I'll let you handle this one sure um so the annual Delegate for the 2022 nisba annual business meeting which is on Monday October 17th we have had a volunteer she's still willing yes yes okay this suvin volunteered I don't I'm doubting that anyone wants to oust her but I'll put it out there okay so um should I just say it like regular resolution is upon recommendation just you can it is upon recommendation of the superintendent of schools that we appoint Teresa Sullivan

to be our delegate to the nisba annual business [Music] meeting have a motion from Bill and a second from Tom all in favor you're in woohoo congratulations thank you it's thank you that's all I'll say I'll say it again thank you I don't know what I'm in for but but I know how thankful people were so I'm I'm a little bit scared you do it last year no I didn't I did it last year and Kelly did it the year before so didn't volunte notice the nonre repeating volunteers notice that this missed the last meeting that's when this typically happens you'll never do that again okay it is a upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education adopt a second read of the board policy 8210 safety conditions and prevention instruction

and it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that board policy 8211 be abolished let's have a motion and then we'll explain a motion from Tom in a second Xavier CH we've changed already okay so do you want it Xavier do you want to explain the changes or do you want Mr plans I don't think he needs any explanation we discussed it I to the public no okay then all in favor thank you that is everyone thank you very much okay no well thank a very a very short component of a sentence was taken out which was the problem and unfortunately with all the discussion last week by by doing what we did we actually left that in there so now we're we're in very good shape with this right right so so thank

you to everyone cont I think that's if anyone cares to read it okay okay so um that brings us to smart goals do you want to address that Chris M on the screen so at the last at the last meeting and this is not meant for lengthy discussion but as much as as as you'd like to question or Focus future thoughts I asked trustees just oneon-one for some feedback on 2022 23 goals and obviously prior year goals are going to inform future year goals but we're in a different place than we were last year it was a lot more focused on on covid related processes and and my hope this is wood that we're we're moving past that but I did realize that there is something that we do each and every year that trustees

and and our community may not be as as familiar with as as we are in general and that is a smart goal act a smart goal setting action planning process uh wein at the beginning of each year and typically we we we do wait for the board to set the goals that drive my action plan that then drive the building plans that then drive teacher plans etc etc but there's always a goal that connects with student achievement growth and progress and this goes back I'm going to say to a to about 2013 when uh Dr card and I took a ride to Albany to meet with the now retired Irish Schwartz who was an associate commissioner up there um I think it was our Middle School that was on a list at the time and

it was on the cusp of coming off and we we discussed the process and that conversation actually freed us from that process and it it involved a process that really started with a conversation we had at the state level in terms of setting smart goals and here's the acronymous here specific measurable achievable or attainable relevant um timely so what I'd like to do just briefly is to share and I did speak with our longest standing principle over the weekend just to make sure she was okay with my sharing this during the meeting and thank you Mrs capitulo S um this is an example of last Springs typically they're three times a year last year we only went twice that was primarily covid related but just to give you a sense of what the goal setting

process looks like and this is a I have a binder from each year going back to the year I started here and the smart goal setting process I believe goes back to 1213 so it's been tweaked but just to give the board and those here a sense of what this looks like the cover page always goes back to to Prior year performance now obviously we're running a little blind there because we haven't had State assessments to work from for a period of time throughout the covid process but just to give you a sense and here she's got performance data you know I I I do want the board to be well versed in the fact that data drives what we do but at the same time we understand that every data point behind it is

a face is a name a face a family a story it's not all about in circumstances that's right so I'm just G there's lot to this but I want to focus on let me do this the right way here and forgive me but here is the Crux of it right here so she's got some data in front but it starts with a review of data and what she's got in a2s we use an administrative rubric called the the Rees Matrix so what she's doing in terms of and I keep saying she what Miss capula is doing here and this is this is consistent across the administration so you have this happening at the principal level at the director level uh she is connecting the data that she's reviewed to aspects of the rubric that we

use as an administrative evaluative tool which is really more of an internal process than than contributing to the uh actual next steps the process but based on that data she is then identifying needs and this particular need statement is right in front of you there analyze the results of as web plus and notice there's no State assessment data there because they weren't um actually there there wasn't an there there were 2021 New York State Ela scores but we were kind of Flying Blind in terms of numbers there uh less did not become more here but um analyzing Trends using the available benchmark assessments using amip plus and we've actually added assessments to this for the current year here that need statement drives the formulation of a particular smart goal I'm not going to read it

you can see it up on the screen and again going back to each aspect of a smart goal specific measurable so following that she's got indicators what is going to be used to determine progress toward achievement of the goal and then what follows is a timestamped action plan and I'm going through this quickly but you can see how she's got things mapped out and which is also showing here is the data that was most readily available to her and the data that that am web provides comes in in typically three packages for most grade levels not kindergarten because they they their data is a little bit limited because they don't store it as comprehensively as some of the other grade levels but you can see the green yellow red um using and it's not just

this but she's she's showing us progress from fall to winter based on the instruction and curriculum that has been delivered in that uh in that in that setting by grade level and again she's got it by teers which aligns with our RTI plan just to jump in you want more green less red just want to share that so it's progressing in the right direction cor and again continuing through with our action plan I don't want to go through every detail of this it's more about format but I do want you to see a process that is not overnight and a lot of thought goes into it so again she's got the types of tools that she's using at each grade level and these are available for you to look at further uh again she's talking

about her books of the month here which contribute to the not only the curricular program but also to a separate Dei action plan that we'll talk about in the future um and other measures that are in place to help promote both student achievement growth student progress in general her second goal again first goal was primarily Ela second goal focuses on math and you're going to notice a similar process here and her time stamp action plan and the data that supports those of us who have read in IEP or2 in our days know about smart goals and how how they should be used and obviously you see here the math growth is is significant from fall to winter which is not surprising because we went back to an in-person process in a much more significant manner

in the fall of last year so again everything that that is outlined here is supported by the data the goals are informed by the data and the action plan is is informed by and modified according to what is determin through the analysis of the data stmath another program that is that is very popular in this neck of the woods okay third goal again using school report card and this focuses on a specific sub and you can look at this in more detail but what she's doing is extracting aspects of the report card that is public on the New York State education department data site and again focusing her attention here on the economically disadvantaged subgroup oh we're ready into the next goal I believe hang on a second okay and obviously parent engagement is something

that we're focused on there are there are a couple of recurring pieces to this plan student achievement parent engagement is another one um and you can see that that's addressed here in the third goal and the action plan that follows the the needs that are identified are school by school or school by school so there may be variations in subgroup performance between schools among schools so she is specifically using her school report card to determine that no I understand that but when when they're developing the needs before the goals like the need statement it's based on the data for their buildings but I but the idea like having Community involvement or parent engagement is that consistent build that often be informed by board goals okay right but so she she knows what what she's looking

for here but that parent engagement piece that's going to be something that comes from the top down MH okay that's a good question sorry I Mis what you were saying the directors also participate in this process and they have more Department related goals regions related goals um expansion of courses and different types of opportunities they want to provide to kids as well thank you so now this is late in the year so she's she's got data on how many families attended specific events and that that'll be used you know this is an ongoing process so what happened last spring and what happened over the summer is going to inform the action plans that are the goals that are set and the action plans the goals don't generally change but the action plans may because of

what worked or what didn't correct and she's got results of surveys here now this is a you know obviously it's it's a lot to swallow but this is what this is what is helping her move forward in terms of accomplishing the goals that she set for the building in alignment with the goals that that are set for the district and again she still talking about events here right then we get to and this one has has certainly taken on new meaning since the pandemic looking at that same report card and the impact of chronic absenteeism so a lot of focus across the district has been placed there and I can tell you that the first week is a good sign but she's looking at her chronically absentee students by subgroup and setting a target the

target does not make or break the success but it does give it gives a sense of where we were where we'd like to be and something to to shoot for during that that that given time period and again one of the outcomes and this is really across the district are procedures that relate to parental contact and communication after X number of days absent how many Communications and what types of communications okay here's another example of a building goal that is in alignment with a board goal cultural responsiveness diversity equity and inclusion so the action there there are two this is an action plan that is building comprehensive uh each building also has a team that is focused specifically on welcoming environments and Dei and that's something we can present at at a later date I

think not by me but by those who are more directly involved but this goal relates directly to that not just what happens in the classroom what happens during life in that building and again you can see through some of the action items uh some of the things that were done at Jefferson and some of these cross buildings obviously and we and the spring data came in change yeah well that you know we we that's I believe that is um that's literacy so the kindergarten they don't they don't in some of those areas until the winter because they're beginning students but you can see we we're happy to see that type of growth from Winter to Spring that's why you put in graphs because it's dramatic it is definitely easy to see and as Miss McCoy

pointed out green is good green is good g equals g equals gep and we look at it on a on a grade level basis we look at it on a Class by class basis we look at it on a school by school basis and and they're constructive conversations that result so I I don't want to go into fine fine details on on specific metrics and specific assessments but I did want to give the board a sense of what this looks like and the type of thought that goes into it and I'm showing one here and I I appreciate her I spoke to her over the weekend just to make sure she was okay with this but understand that every one of our principles and every one of our directors uh does something very similar um

seagull and I had a conversation this morning about what this looks like and then we're going to be orienting her to that process every District does this a little bit differently um but this this this is something that just generates convers conversations here and they're they're living breathing processes it definitely looks like a lot of work but worthwhile effort and this is just the spring so obviously the spring follows the fall and winter if we're going to go back to three this year um and it gives a chance to just talk about changes that you'd like to make based on what has happened between September and January or September and February really good year so thank you for allowing me to share and thank you to all of and obviously the high school program the

high school action plan looks marketly different than this because the focus is completely different um but it's a comprehensive process so thank you for sharing that that's very inter M McCoy anything you want to add no I think we we do a very comprehensive job here the directors and and the uh principles put a lot of thought and effort into it as you can see and the productive conversations that we have allow us to know what the needs are where we need to work as across the district as well as within the buildings and across the department so it really is a great collaborative effort and uh we have an amazing team here so it's great and that's from top to bottom so you know this is a function of people working together it's not

you must do this it's conversations between ourselves conversations between administrators and teachers you know obviously they're on the front lines and then what they do matters considerably um but they care about kids and data is part of the process but knowing the kids is probably as if not more more important okay any other questions all right then miss mcco we're still on you it is upon recommendation from the superintendent of schools that the Board of Education approve CSC cpsc submissions as delineated a motion from billan a second from Michelle all in favor that is everyone okay um I am asking the board this evening for approval of personnel items on schedules 135 6810 13 15 16 20 and 22 a motion I'm Teresa a second from Michelle any questions all in favor everyone okay I'm

gonna go backwards here um make it more of a challenge no there's really only two things to announce here first of all we'd like to welcome um new teaching assistant I don't know if she's here this evening but Allison Brown will be joining us at wood Hall Intermediate School Allison if you're not here welcome welcome regardless but you'll be um joining us uh starting tomorrow okay after you approve that and there is one very significant announcement here that has been a long time coming back in 20 oh boy 13 or 14 um when Joi Annie left the district we had eradicated the assistant superintendency in the area of Human Resources uh at that time finances were a bit more of a challenge and we were able to change the position up and and save some

monies and it was the right thing to do at the time but uh since that time uh somebody has been in that position who is um this person bleeds blue he is a fixture in the Huntington community and he is you know I have two hands a right and a left but honestly these three people make up both the hands that that that reach out uh this gentleman is very important to this District he's very important to me as the superintendent of schools both on a personal and professional level so and to the board and to the board so the board just appointed Mr Christopher Hender as the new assistant superintendent for human resources congratulations Mr Hender truly well deserved congratulations okay I think that's all I have in that anyway yes congratulations Chris well

well well earned right that's all you had for that but now you still Yes okay because Dr AER is not here I asking the board for approval of business items in sections hang on a second I through L okay a motion from Michelle in a second from Teresa all in favor that is everyone and there no announcements tavier right are there just of note the do your do your thing first by thing did we approve did I miss it yeah okay you missed it uh I'm sorry I was accidentally moving something uh the marching band Syracuse that actually the Disney trip came last week this probably should have come first but this is the uh New York State field conference Field Band conference championships up in in Syracuse uh that I'm going to try to

get to this year best I can in your Halloween costume yes oh yes I'll dress as a tuba okay that brings us to our second public commentary I don't see anybody new who's arrived so if anybody would like to speak though please come to the podium I don't see anyone okay comments by board members anything final I'll take a motion to adjourn ready Michelle andon in favor that's everyone thank you all for coming out and we will see support
