Board of Ed meeting our next one and that will be at Haviland Middle School at seven o'clock just a reminder that most um the most up-to-date information on school events is located at the dis on the district calendar that is found on the district's web page oh other calendar dates to remember November's Native American Heritage Month November 14th through 18th I think it's which is right where we are now right it's American Education week and November 19th is substitute education Educators day does anybody else have any other upcoming events that they'd like me to mention okay um so we'll move on to Pride would you like to start with that you have a couple of items um coach Barbara demsar and the FDR varsity girls soccer team will be receiving the 2022 Manny Blanco sportsmanship
award from the Mid-Hudson soccer officials Association Manny sadly passed away last year and this award honors a team every year for their sportsmanship on and off the field of play the FDR girls are worthy winners of this award this year um in other news we have an unusually high number of students that made it into the nisma that's New York State School Music Association yeah area all state it's occurring this weekend at Reddick High School um shout out to the students that represented FDR and there they are I think I've spoken about that before but Debbie stange was honored so I think I talked about her being nominated earlier and that she was going to be receiving the award and you can see people know Debbie throughout the district although she has done a ton
of work at Netherwood we're all just really proud and um and some some people from our district were able to be there with Debbie and her family so congratulations Deb foreign and you can jump in also we had a community chat recently um that we held at Netherwood and it was well attended and we really appreciate the feedback from our community we think that these meetings are a great way to reach out you know not just for a formal board meeting but something more informal to get the feedback from the community to myself and the other board members who attended we really appreciate that remember okay I get to speak about the artist and musician of the month so first up is this month's musician of the month we have Sue this uh susath Contreras
a seventh grader from Haviland Middle School so this is a clarinetist in seventh grade band and Jazz as well as a singer in the slack choir and women's choir she excels at both and provides or approves time and time again that she's dedicated to her craft through her practice and preparation for each rehearsal so this is not afraid to accept a challenge in the band or in choir here's a quote I love making music because it's fun and I love my teachers so congratulations to susuth Contreras from Haviland Middle School and next up we have our artist of the month so our artist of the month actually is from Violet Avenue which is wonderful so we have Kaylor okumu who's a fifth grader at Violet Ave and Kayla shows great imagination and uh uses what
she learns to express her impressive creativity and here's a quote I love art because I can express my feelings through pictures and drawings so congratulations to kaler play right this is I'm devastated to say that this is the first year and I don't know how long that I wasn't able to make it so I was really sad to miss it so I'm glad you got to go it was great it was just a couple weeks ago so I kind of forgot that yeah I thought we talked about last time maybe not I went too it was wonderful it was funny incredible it was really funny laugh yes so they did a great job uh casting crew nice job yeah thank you move on to the superintendency report yeah um just to let you know that
you you may be hearing about electric school buses and that's a initiative rolling out from New York State and something we're exploring and the latest thing we just talked about today is visiting a district that's already using electric school buses and you know trying to learn from them as we move in that direction um also all families should have received surveys on our regular annual now continuous School Improvement surveys and additionally input on portrait of a graduate so we're seeking that input from families we've already heard from quite a number of families but I'll say it again that that that link is still up and we're also surveying staff and students at Haviland and FDR um to get that input and the last piece I have for tonight is a letter that other Duchess County
superintendents are reading as well and this has to do with Dutchess County Community College and tuition so for many years those courses at the high school have been free for our students we've had an arrangement with the Community College where because it's our teachers teaching and our school that the fees are waived for the credit and students receive many credits at Duchess while taking courses at FDR so we met with Dr Peter Jordan the president of the community college in late October at that time he confirmed that DCC will be charging tuition starting in the fall of 2023 that was originally supposed to start this spring but we all advocated and they were able citing the hardship that would cause families and districts so it was moved to the fall We are continuing to advocate
for students um we're writing letters to political leaders in the region and officials at the state and Board of Regents um because we're still advocating that students won't be charged that tuition um So based on the research that the superintendents in the county have done we do not believe that we have a legal mechanism to absorb the costs within the School District budget so we've been advised that we cannot spend funds public funds on tuition for these credits so that would fall to the individual families so at this time we don't know the exact cost the tuition hasn't been set by the college for the next academic year but the intention is to charge one-third of the tuition of the credit um and so I'll keep you updated as we continue to Advocate on behalf
of students and Community but I wanted to take the opportunity while I know people are watching at home and people are here to let you know the status so again we're still advocating and this would be for the fall in time for our course guidebook and also Dr Jordan has told us that he would write a letter explaining the details for us to share with our communities thank you now I'm the one that's not remembering to turn on my microphone okay um so at this time we'll go to the Violet Avenue Elementary School update thank you principal Gonzalez I think it was me hitting the button right I think I just have made hello all right so maybe I should start with thanking technology for setting up everything tonight um for us thank you um
I just want to take a minute to acknowledge our band members we have some of our fifth grade ambassadors here but they're going to introduce themselves but I just wanted to introduce our our band so that you know who performed while you guys were coming in so our band director and teacher is Miss Jessica Beecher so we really appreciate her being here and preparing the students for this evening um and our band members are Thomas Morrell and Brianna neglia Kevin Jackson Abram klemba and Habiba you can so thank you very much you guys did a great job thank you for being here guys you did awesome um so welcome to Violet Avenue it's nice to have you here again um and I'm happy to be off the uh School visits the school year we get
to go first so I'm excited to have you here um and we're excited to share a little bit about some of the things that we're working on um and where I'm happy that this year we have some of our students here representing and staff members representing um the work that we're doing this year all right so I will very sensitive Clicker I'll start just uh to let you know who we are and then I'll let you get to meet some of our students and hear about some of the work that we're doing um this year on bed stay we had 314 students enrolled which is about the same number that I reported in the spring at our last Board of Education meeting and our percentages of students are basically the same we're a very diverse
student body it's one of the things that I think makes Violet Avenue so special and our percentages of students are relatively the same except we have had an increase in our Spanish-speaking families and students who've come into the building this year and a slight increase in the number of students who receive English as a new language Services here in the building so we do have more enl students this year from a variety of countries and it's been a nice addition to to our building this year and so you're going to be hearing a little bit more about how we're responding to that and supporting all of our students in just a minute um you'll also see our numbers we currently have 12 of our students receive special education support that's down a little bit from
last year and we currently have 171 students who are receiving free and reduced lunch and that percentage is 54 last year um well not last year in my board of education presentation last year I reported 69 of our population was qualifying for free and reduced lunch and that was the number that was last reported in 2020-21 because they did not collect that information last year because of covid so I was curious about that percentage difference and we think it may be less families filling out the free and reduced lunch application for the that accounts for that difference in percentage because it is it is a slight difference from the last time that I reported so I thought I would just mention that so I want you to be able to meet some of the students
and not just see numbers on the slide and so I'm going to introduce Mr Daniels and Mrs wood and Mrs Johnson and Mrs Ellis and they are all teachers who support our fifth grade students and they are going to introduce our fifth grade ambassadors to you and our fifth grade ambassadors are going to share some of the work that they've been doing in the building very sensitive good evening Board of Education members my name is Tim Daniels this is Joanne wood Patty Johnson and Natalie Ellis and we are fifth grade teachers here at VIs all the teachers here nurses and staff here believe that our students have the potential to positively impact others in our school fifth grade ambassadors and awesome awards are two Avenues to help us achieve this endeavor as per Deanna slide

that I thought I would share with you [Music] hello Vala Avenue School we are fifth grade ambassadors and we would like to talk to you about a new fundraiser that we would like you to participate at this time of year we are often reminded of what we are thankful for here at vas we are thankful for a bunch of things for instance teachers Mrs Gonzalez staff learning and each other team to name it have you ever thought about being thankful for your shoes or sneakers well some people wish they could be thankful for a new or used pair of comfortable shoes here at vas we're asking student and staff members to consider donating a used or new pair of sneakers they can look like this or this but please ask your parents for permission we
don't want them looking for their shoes Kevin where's our shoes after you get permission please bring them into school and place them in the big box in the lobby I'm a Crocs man so people will go having that thing with them like this [Music] to looking like this [Music] thank you vas and keep daring to be awesome [Music] so these videos have been going um out to the classroom so that teachers can show them um and there's just one other one when they introduce their awesome Awards um so this was some information hi my name Miss eyes on and I'm a fifth grade student in Mr Daniels class at Violet Avenue school and I am a fifth grade Ambassador hi my name is Michelle and I'm a fifth grade student in Mr Daniel's class at

solve problems emotional management setting goals ownership motivated and empathy these words are taken from our second step program for the month of October we'll be focusing on the kindness which represents the a in awesome for always kind if a student is caught being kind in the hallway cafeteria playground classroom bus or special area they can receive an awesome Awards can be given out by Mrs Gonzalez teachers modders cafeteria staffs secretaries nurses bus drivers or Specialists if you receive an awesome reward write your name on the reward and place it in the container at the office at the end of each month there will be an assembly to honor all winners there will be one grand prize winner for each month that will receive a certificate gift card and a chance to win a grand prize
some examples of rewards include walking Milano lunch with the principal or a teacher or a snack from the cafeteria so keep daring to be awesome I mean you might just receive an awesome award watching [Applause] [Music] I think is so nice about this is that our kids are having more ownership over their school environment and it's something we've been trying to encourage um and it's so they do such a nice job and it just goes to show you that when you you give them that choice and you give them that control and that voice just what they can do and the difference that they can make in our school community so they really truly are awesome and set a great example for for our students so thank you for letting them present um it I
know it means a lot to them and they were excited to be here and thank you to all their families that are here supporting them and sharing them on and bringing them and letting them stay they were in New York City all day today on a field trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty they got back at 5 30 8 or 5 o'clock ate pizza quick and then came and did this in practice to be here tonight so guys thank you very much foreign so as if they are much funnier than than I am but I thought I would um a little comedy um those of you who who've been to Violet Avenue know Milano um and so Milana when he came to us Milano's now five he's gonna be six in April
which it seems like only a couple of months ago I was here advocating saying what a great program a school facility dog program would be and asked you guys to take a risk and support me in doing that so when he came he took a class picture um which hangs in my office and this was his class picture and he was very young and very excited maybe as some of us teachers looked when we arrived to our first year in the classroom really excited and then I received from memory makers his um covid school picture that that he took the the year we came back so I was showing this to Mrs katani the other day in my office and she was like you have to include that and show them so this is his
coveted picture so I I thought he's looking better he is here tonight he's he's looking yeah I know it's been a long day for him too um so he is looking a little better but um I just use that as not only humor but um you know kovid was a little rough on some of us Milano included um and so we have some work to do uh to to make up uh you know to make up some ground for some some bit of time we lost during covet so I'm just gonna briefly go over um one of our other goals in the building besides empowering our students to have more control in the building um and do really great things that our fifth graders are doing um we also have our BLT goal so our
BLT goal this year and the work that we're doing as an entire building it's not only the BLT but we are revising our data team process so the way we consider the progress of all of our students and we monitor that progress and how we respond to it so we have started this year where we are having grade level team meetings with every grade level and every single grade level of teachers in our building has participated in this and fully embraced this and is attending these meetings with me and we've been charged with it's a lofty goal and I don't think it will just be this year but the work that we're doing is about looking at multiple measures of data so that sounds really fancy but not only are we looking at state test
scores or the maps exam but we're looking at classroom assessments and we're looking at what kids are writing and what they're jotting down on Post-its and conferring notes that we have and our demographic data and how is that changing and how do we need to respond to our changing student body and we're also looking at the survey data that Mrs Kafka mentioned in her opening we're doing that again this year but we did do it last year for Violet Avenue so we have that information and we're using all of that together to inform decisions that we're making and while we're looking at that data we're looking for strengths we're looking for areas of Challenge and we're looking for opportunities that we can support students that may not be making the amount of progress that we
know that they're capable of so we're looking for those opportunities so that we can capitalize on it and we're informing when once we have an idea of where we want to go and we're in the process of working through all of that data right now we're using research and book studies that are going on in the building to inform our instructional decisions and what we're going to do so not just having a hypothesis but really trying to back it up with something that's research based and we know works for kids so that we can make smart decisions um we are working on improving the way we're setting goals with students in the classroom and across the class so that we can better meet their needs and we're looking for any areas you know if there's
a great portion of our students who are struggling in a particular area then that might speak to an area where we need to enhance our curriculum in that area or we need to make some kind of systems change here in the building so we're looking to tease out where it's just one student who might be struggling with a particular concept and is that a larger number of students where we need to think more systematically about what we need to change and the reason why we made this decision is because we've been talking more about mtss multiple tiers of intervention and data for continuous Improvement our Violet Avenue PTA participated with Brad Geist last year and I had shared that in my board presentation last year and so now we're taking this and trying to grow
it across the building so that it's not just our BLT but it's making a difference for all of our classrooms this is an opportunity for greater collaboration between the staff and our building it's giving us exposure to research based strategies that we may not be familiar with or we haven't explored yet um it's helping us to strengthen our goal setting and feedback for students which we know research-wise is very effective for helping them grow and we're hoping to strengthen our overall RTI process and the main goal of all of that is so that we can see academic growth for all of our students not just some but every student who's under our care so some things that we've noticed so far it's sort of the beginning of the year I can't believe Thanksgiving is next
week um but we have started to look at some of those multiple measures of data and here are some things that we're noticing we did notice and I reported in the spring a drop in our math fluency rates from covid but what we're noticing is now that students are back in school and they're back into their daily routines they're making significant growth in the area of math fluency which is really nice to see we believe that our hypothesis around that is the routines of the day and their exposure to our calendar math program every morning and them having very predictable math routines every single morning we believe is helping to contribute to that um our students are accelerating in measurement arrays multiplication and geometry they also are excelling in finding main idea using informational text
which I can remember a couple of years ago where our kids were doing better in fiction than they were in non-fiction we seem to be leveling that out now which is nice they are able to find meanings of words in context and all of those work came out as area of strengths and our assessments we also notice that our students have skills and holistically they're able to apply those skills even when the text may be more difficult than they would read independently which is really nice which is going to show that our teachers are doing an awesome job giving them strategies and and a tool back to be able to attack those exams some area that we notice that we need to continue to work on in math our students continue to need work for
geometric measurement equivalent fractions and multi-step word problems so breaking down those word problems and understanding what to do and the order of operations that they need to do for for the math problem we also are working on the students being able to back up their responses in writing by finding text evidence understanding cause and effect maintaining their stamina for a very long test that may take them an hour and a half or two hours coming off of covid that we've noticed that that's been a challenge maintaining that stamina long enough to sit through an entire exam is something we're working on with students and those constructed written responses which tend to come at the end of the exam on the last day when they're done testing intends the longest essay tends to be at the
end is something that we're working on with them um also understanding language and multiple ways that the same question can be asked for example finding the main idea or what is the author's message so a very similar skill can be asked in different ways and can trick some of our students um and understanding different text structures across different genres we are looking at the pacing of our modules to make sure that we are delivering the instruction that our kids need prior to any exams um so that we can be sure that we've taught the concepts to give them a fair shot of being able to demonstrate what they know and with our growing enl population we're recognizing that there is more need to build student vocabulary and exposure to student vocabulary because those students are
still developing in that area our perceptual data this is the data that came to us from our surveys that we gave last year we just sent out the surveys for students staff and families for this school year but this is a summary of some of the perceptual data that we received from last year's survey so some things to really celebrate is that our students overwhelmingly respond that they enjoy coming to school they like being here they feel cared for safe and respected by their teachers and staff so to me that's huge and the most important thing that's there because I want them to want to be here and know that they're cared about our students and families believe that our staff is invested in their kids and I think that's evidenced by everybody who's here
tonight our families really want their students to do well in school and they believe that their students are expected to do quality work here at Violet Avenue some areas that we want to focus on our students have expressed a desire for more voice and choice so that is one of the reasons for our initiative and the demonstration that you see here tonight it's just one of the ways that we're trying to respond to that um they would like some more opportunities to be recognized for the hard work that they're doing in the building so our building wide assemblies and recognizing students is also responding to that need some of our students feel that they are ready for more challenging work so our new data team process where we're looking at cross-classrooms and not just as
students who may be struggling academically but all of our students so even our students that are high achieving they still have room to grow as well and so we need to give them opportunities to meet the challenge that they're ready for um and our students I mean our families had also expressed that they had a desire um to or wanted us to explore ways to prepare their students for employment after graduation and thinking long term about preparing them for the future and as they move on to secondary so those are our main goals for this school year it's what our BLT is working on my last slide for this evening is I just wanted a huge thank you Mrs katani sent me this really great picture of this awesome playground painting um that she thought
was so cool and ran with the idea and got Tommy now maker who is our retired art teacher from Violet Avenue an awesome artist who's also responsible for the murals in the hallways and staircases and they came and volunteered their hours to um liven up our playground so not only did they recreate except we had to take the gecko out and Milano is responsible for the painting on the playground um so Milano is there and uh they painted that Hopscotch for the kids with positive sayings about how awesome they are and also um fixed up we have yoga outside on the playground on the blacktop and so they repainted that and they're also I ran out of space for pictures um they also uh this really cool where the kids can jump and measure how
far of a distance they can jump and really livened up the playground so I had to say thank you they donated their time this was not something that the district contracted for it was because they just wanted to support our school community and I can't thank them enough for that um the businesses that you see uh the emblems where these are all companies and local businesses that have donated to our school food pantry to keep our food pantry going the orchard Prospect Hill um allowed us to go apple picking and we probably may have been a hundred pounds of apples that they let us pick as much as we could and all of it went to the food pantry and snacks for our kids after school so the picture that you see on the bottom
is only part of the many many apples we took out of the orchard to bring back to the school so I just wanted to thank all of them for for their support because without them you know we wouldn't be able to provide the food and the snacks and the care that we do for our students every day so with that and I had to end with the one really great picture of one of our students um and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them I always do it's okay comfortable disclaimer yeah maker did all the creative part of that she just told me what colors to color the blobs I know she did all the blending and she did I did and she's she's amazing she she is amazing um
so just a couple of thoughts yeah first of all um Slide Five hysterical um it was really great to see on slides I think seven and eight where you took the data and instead of us looking at you know a lot of numbers you took it and made it make sense where this is what Violet Avenue was working on this is what we're good at this is where we're moving so that I really appreciate I thought that was really helpful to get a sense of specifically uh what Violet Avenue is working on my question is a couple we've started some initiatives with the covid money and I was just curious it might be unfair to ask this early in the year but um support for math support for SEL support for um kindergarten support um
are you seeing it is anything sticking out is really working you know are you getting a sense it's helping just curious what the what these new initiatives are yeah so the support for the math coach has not begun yet um but that's coming the Tas well we're doing extra for the extra teaching assistants so our extra teaching assistants are in the classroom and are supporting and I have to say they're supporting this year more than ever because um HR and I know Shelby was here has done an amazing job of getting more substitute teachers on our list so that we have the subs that we need and the permanent daily sub um having Brittany Conklin is here at Violet Avenue and having her here every day and having somebody who is reliable and we know
is going to be here has been a tremendous help because it keeps our teaching assistants seeing kids instead of being pulled to sup so that has made a huge difference um our support to sel we have a full-time social worker um this year we had a little bit of a time where we didn't have a social work we only had a school psychologist and Mr Coleman who is new to us this year has been an amazing and amazing support for our students and also having the bright program because that was that was part of it having the bright program and having Claire pastelon who is our Behavior teaching assistant in that program and having her to support kids and doing lunch groups and breakfast groups all of that has been tremendously helpful good to know
and um and he what would you say is the biggest challenge for Violet Avenue and want to know if you're if you're feeling supported you know meeting that challenge yeah um so I I did give some thought to that and I have to say my initial reaction is um I I don't I don't think there's ever a day where I feel that I'm not supported by the support of education and our assistant superintendent and our Deputy superintendent and our superintendent um I know that if I ask for something I'm going to get support for it so I have to say that um if I was talking about a general challenge that can be hard I think engagement and stamina for our students is a big thing because to get them to do the kind of
work that we're expecting and the rigor that we're trying to get them to so that they're prepared um you know that there's they've had some interruptions in their education and of no fault of their own and it's been a challenging time and that's something that we're working on to keep all of our students engaged and prepared for that so that would be my general challenge thank you you're very welcome thank you for your thoughtful questions yeah I just want to say awesome is the right word this is really wonderful and to have our students and our staff involved and have so many family members here and so many staff here um is just a testament to how close this community is and how much everybody's always here for the kids so again I want to
thank you for your leadership yeah and I want to thank you for allowing them to do this and I know it takes a little bit more time than if I was just going over data slides but it's so nice to have our families here and our kids here and I think it's really time very well spent so thank you for allowing us this opportunity for creativity and to do this and to show you a little bit of our culture and I just want to thank everybody for coming and our PTA who everybody has to take dessert and stuff because they went way above and beyond it looks like a wedding table instead of a board meeting so please please enjoy and thank you again thank you so much and I can agree more I'm so
thrilled that um all of the students and the staff and and families could come tonight thank you [Applause] yep and on on your way to get Refreshments it's okay it's okay for the families to go and and not stay for the business boring part of the the meeting or stay or stay or stay but it's okay it's all right yeah but take dessert with participation no we're not oh we still have yeah we still have one more Excellence okay yep thank you okay oh no you did great just perfect all right next we have our our presentation on instructional Equity Network update sorry instructional Equity Network update with Melissa reader and Aviva Kafka thank you so much there it is hi okay so you know me vivacapka all of you may not know Melissa reader
she's our new director of guidance and part of that role is overseeing our instructional Equity work um so we're going to be co-presenting tonight and then um that's one of the board goals and then the second half is another presentation by our consultant Jill Harrisonburg is going to come back and she's going to present with Melissa what I'm doing here tonight and so we're going to be sharing she wasn't here last year for part of that so I may jump in here and there but we're going to be sharing the slides and now she's serving on the network with me and with many other people who are here tonight so I'll let you start okay good evening everyone so the instructional Equity Network we're looking to um transform the way of Hyde Park Central School
District our community works together so that we're able to learn our way to more Equitable schools and make a discernible difference in increasing Equitable outcomes so when we think about inequities we're thinking that in most schools today and this is researched students educational outcomes on average are statistically correlated with their demographics including race home language family income and or disability and those are the four areas that we're looking to hopefully create better outcomes for students through this work when we reflect on this image we see that you know we're trying to we have the difference between equality and Equity all students are provided a bicycle at the type but you can tell that not the bicycle is not appropriate for everyone when we talk about Equity we're providing a mode of transportation that is appropriate
for every person's needs so when we reflect on also the profile or the portrait of a Hyde Park graduate we want to look at how our district empowers our community to strive for excellence and embrace the opportunities of our globally connected world how can we make good on this promise for every student interns tonight um so this is our data keep in mind this is 2021 data and it's outlining the the results that we have um which are inequitable for our students who are English language Learners who have individualized education plans who are eligible for free and reduced lunch and who are black or African-American so um we've looked at this data on the equity team certainly our our administrators are looking at this with our teachers on a regular basis and it's hard to
sit with this data it doesn't mean all students these are averages so this doesn't speak to every student in what Dr Berg calls Spotlight groups that we're looking at are four Spotlight groups here but it does mean that we see these patterns and that's concerning and if we want to change the outcomes we really do need to look at the current state and so again this is 2021 data and we see these big discrepancies between and I'll just read them to you because I think possibly on camera the words are going to be too small um 73 of white 8th graders scored proficient in English language arts as compared to 50 of black 8th graders 31 percent of fourth graders who speak English at home scored proficient math as opposed to 17 percent of fourth
graders who are English language Learners 80 percent of 8th graders from economically advantaged homes were efficient proficient in English language arts as compared with 44 percent of 8th graders from economically disadvantaged homes 84 percent of students in general education graduated and and while many of our students do graduate in five years or more we're talking about a four-year graduation rate so 84 percent graduated in four years and students with special education plans graduate 53 graduated within four years so that's our data from last year um certainly we're working with the the debt I'm from 21 we're certainly working with the 2022 data which is different um but this is what we've been using in our Equity Network and and certainly the patterns have not disappeared in in the past year yeah um are those like
the top row says Ela was it the same comparison done for Math and Ela yeah we these are just some examples and it's similar yes the patterns are throughout the system these are just some examples from fourth and eighth grade um so although this you can read the font is certainly big enough so we've all kind of heard this this wisdom and it's true that this isn't about our kids not being good enough our family's not being good enough our teachers not being good enough this is a systemic issue and I know some of you know me know that you know I quote my dad who says you know he doesn't believe in bad systems I don't believe in Bad Teachers or administrators it's it's systems that are designed um for a time that is
not our time and we have been working really hard to change it across you know the country in all public school districts um from within and without the system so we're really looking at better and better ways to do that and more effective ways to do that so um I believe that every family member parent staff member care about our students generally I'm genuinely desire their success and we just we do need to look at our diverse 21st century Learners and what that means so the portrait of a graduate and the data for continuous Improvement efforts tie in perfectly with this Equity work in that these are combined strategies designed to make our school district universally responsive to and successful with every student so Dr Berg talks about lifting all boats and you'll see um
that Melissa reader is going to talk in detail a little bit of detail about the four action teams and what they're doing on the network and you're going to see that those things are strategies and changes that are going to positively affect every student in the district so sometimes when people hear Equity work or diversity Equity inclusion work they think that some kids are going to get something special and they're going to Something's Gonna be taken away from other kids and that is so not what this work is about really is about looking at strategies that we are going to be working with every student and just better meet the needs of some students who might not being who might not be served as well now but will improve service for every student okay so
this comes right out of New York State education department um and this is a quote that they've come to understand the results we seek for all our children can never be fully achieved without incorporating an equity and inclusion lens in every facet of our work they have given us a culturally responsive sustaining education framework and you know for this I want to say that you know we've experienced in National local Politics as well as deeply you know rooted um racism in our country have really put and I'll say it out loud instead of a foreign meetings um have put school districts under incredible pressure and scrutiny relative to our diversity equity and inclusion work we've had tremendous support from the board and and most of our community here almost all of our community here um
we've had a handful of complaints about the equity and inclusion initiative from parents including some complaints about book titles in our school libraries and uh Freedom of Information law requests for financial and other records relative to equity and inclusion professional learning I I do have to say as a superintendent I feel tremendously supported by this community in this work and so do our staff and families but I feel like I need to share that context and this is you know some of this is coming from a presentation that Deanna Gonzalez and Dr Berg and I made at the association for supervision and curriculum development National Conference in Baltimore or in Maryland recently and these are some of the comments I made to other people as we're all engaging in this work and so I feel
like it's I want to share it here too that you know this is this is real and the work we're doing um because we love all our students okay so in this network we're using a system of collaborative inquiry so each action team plans an intervention of or new process practices practices it with others in the school community so you know teachers are on the committee go out and try things in the classroom and work with their colleagues um and then they gather the data and then we meet in our action team to analyze the results make adjustments try again and assess the results we are also looking to make recommendations for the whole system so we're practicing you know doing action research and Gathering that information because then we'll have some recommendations to make
that aren't just going to be in in small pockets this was the network last year and the method that Dr Berg uses is really um it she has one book called leading in sync and it is about teachers and administrators so the work really started with teachers and administrators last year and then we've expanded the group this year um and I know there's a slide that talks about this further but by Design we've expanded the network we have a board member we have parents from all six schools teaching assistants clerical staff and students an interest survey was sent to every secondary student every family member and every staff member so when we look together we just want to make sure that everyone was represented and and that's how we made those decisions also I may
have said it here one of the things that we did is for all staff we have the same stipend so I just want to again publicly thank all of the labor unions that worked with us on that the administrators Association the Teachers Association the Hyde Park United employees education Association all agreed to have the same stipend for the work because we're all doing the same work we're all learning elbow to elbow and no one leads anyone else in that work and now I'm going to pass on to Melissa so last year in cycle one we learned that we didn't quite yet have the systems that ensure restorative practices of feedback for improvement or a means for students to receive feedback or individualized feedback um students who received academic supports and intervention specific to their needs
students who are supported to become academically independent and Educators to you um who use relationships with families as partners for Learning and so the question that came out of the work analyzing these um this empathy data what shifts would have to occur inside the instructional core and surrounding it to help ensure that each and every student experiences these effectively so this year um our instructional Equity network is examining this that work from last year a little bit more closely we're working to establish routines and transforming the beliefs practices and systems that currently lack in equity in place um and so the rounding questions that we are reflecting on how can each and every student receive feedback that's meaningful to them how can each and every student develop academic Independence so they are not dependent on
a teacher how can students receive support interventions without failing they're missing out academically and socially and how can students who have been suspended get the support they need so it does not happen again and they don't miss instructional time this is really highlighting what I said before is that what student in our whole system wouldn't benefit from having this be an assurance in place I would I would say that this like examines the whole student and every student so looking at this work in this way is going to help us to provide the right bicycle for each student one of the um the spotlights that we're we're focusing right no this isn't the spotlight this is the action team we are examining feedback how can each and every student receive feedback that's meaningful to them
and how might family Partnerships help us do this more effectively and the focus is to improve feedback within the writing curriculum in Upper Elementary and Middle School grades um in terms of academic Independence is another Focus area how can each and every student develop academic Independence so they are not dependent on the teacher and how might family Partnerships help us do this more effectively the focus on the target for four c's for academic Independence in middle and high school writing the student support team is examining how can students receive support and interventions without feeling they're missing out academically and socially and how might family Partnerships help us do this more effectively and the focus is to provide scheduling support for Elementary grades and PD for special ed teachers and the restorative justice focus group Focus
team is examining how students how can students who have been suspended get the support they need so it doesn't happen again and they don't miss instructional time and how might family Partnerships help us do this more effectively our Focus I say our because that's the team that I'm on is to ensure two-way Communication in disciplinary situations I.E a re-entry plan so we're looking into what the re-entry plan would be able to do to help stop prevent happens again in elementary middle and high school and this is our schedule for the current school year we have full Network and core team meetings and people got to say when they initially expressed interest whether they're interested in the core team or not um and core team meets twice as much and has additional responsibility to ensure the
action teams are getting the support they need and we'll all have actionable recommendations at the end of the school year so we will I'll say it you know just to wrap up we do plan to have an end of year summary report on June 8th at that Board of Education meeting again presented by Melissa reader director of guidance and Jill Harrisonburg our Equity consultant and this is part of your fourth identified District diversity and Equity goal so once you've had those presentations so we're both here to answer any questions you might have anybody have any questions well I I just I just want to say it sounds really wonderful and um I remember when we first started this initiative you know I was I had the opportunity to to be there and it was really
great and unfortunately I wasn't able to continue so I'm really glad that it is continuing so thank you so much yeah thank you so much I'm going to leave this on for public okay thank you thank you oh thanks okay um may I have a may have a motion to open public participation thank you any discussion all those in favor okay at this time we're in public participation as a general rule um public participation is limited to three minutes per speaker but the first public participation segment limited to 21 minutes and that's it I guess I'm just reading my notes I'm sorry um would anybody like to address the board you look like you want it hi I'm Bobby Goodman um the presentation we just had I just had a couple of questions on um
for the equity question is um do we have an accurate way to make sure that we're recording lower income families so I know you base it off of the free and reduced lunch paperwork but in the elementary school it's a little bit easier to see your teacher goes up with you and you can see that your kid's not getting lunch javelin in the high school if a kid doesn't hand in the paperwork there's no one checking that so like we're basing that one thing off of eighth grade um is that accurate of low-income families and then the other question is um is the tough one will redistricting be part of the discussion for the conversation about Equity amongst the buildings like this building has 300 versus North Park has 500. so I'm just wondering if
that might be part of the question the conversation is going forward thank you hi I'm Lauren Bellis I'm the librarian here and I'm wearing a hat because it was happening today like at bile Avenue so if you see some of our staff and hats happy um I just wanted to add on to what Aviva was saying about culturally responsible uh responsive we had a PD option for our teacher training day and I found it very valuable and it was reinforced this week when I had a I think she's in fourth or fifth grade and she came up and she was all excited she was holding a graphic novel that featured a kissy and the kissy is a figure that is um African in origin and she was telling me that she and her mother both
love a kissy stories and she was so thrilled to find the book in you know the graphic novel in the library so she was going home and she couldn't wait to share her with her mother so those um culturally responsibles not only for kids to see themselves in our schools but to be able to take that recognition home and share it and make the family feel like oh we're seen in that school because my kid sees it and it's one of my favorite stories it's in our school for those of us who are used to you know Little Red Riding Hood and all those stories that come from you know a more a more dominant culture to have those tidbits of you know minority cultures or cultures that aren't normally recognized it's a big deal
so the culture is responsive is much bigger of effect than you would think thanks oh I am the biggest offender um is there anybody who would like to address the comments um yeah um so Under reporting of free and reduced has been a concern um of ours and other school districts for a long time and we really do everything we can to try to encourage that and if we have other information that comes to us that a family may be in need you know I I know that at Haviland FDR there's a lot that happens to make that happen but we do encourage people to fill out the forms and food service does a really good job of having that not be obvious to anyone and you just put in your number and you know
there's money in your account or there's not and so um we have long believed that our numbers are under what they really are especially in the last few years because there was Universal free um breakfast and lunch so people just you know understandably didn't want to fill it out when they knew they were getting it anyway so I think we're going to see that climb again um because certain that that would match what we see in the community and what we hear so I think the more that word gets out and food service has done what they can to send the forms home multiple times and to try to have them available but um you know we need to get that word out that that is something that we expect that is available to everyone
thank you redistricting I'll just say it's not a conversation now so that that original question of is that something that you know is being discussed as we see different enrollments different schools that's not a current conversation um not at the administration table or the board to my knowledge you know when we were having um when the enrollment was decreasing um steadily there there was always that conversation about you know do we have to close another building and it's just been pretty steady you know there's a little decline every year but but not nearly what was projected at that time and there are some building projects happening so and if the board wants to comment on that but there's just not an active conversation about redistricting right now anybody else we'll move on to board subcommittee
reports professional development updates did any committees meet since the last meeting I don't think anybody did meet right say um instructional Equity network but they did a great job presenting yeah okay but they mean a lot you mean a lot I was looking at that schedule with a lot of a lot of meetings but um a lot of people working really hard great thank you okay then next we'll move on to um for discussion um one oh go ahead do you want to talk about the open meetings for everyone do you want to bring something else of course number 10 10.16 it doesn't really explain what that is for oh wait a minute we'll go into the consent can we can we hold off on consent agenda I just want to talk about a couple
of other things if you don't mind I want to talk about the um open meetings law update that we've been working on um um in April 2022 an option was added to the open meetings law was that if the necessary steps were taken that would allow board members the ability to video conference into meetings due to extraordinary circumstances um um discussing about addressing this is required so um I didn't print did you print it out I think your census it's attached Let's uh see I'm not getting these attachments where I do want to think maybe they're there okay so there's the open meetings law checklist I'm sorry I so we talked about holding a public hearing and we have a date for that don't we yeah didn't have anything about yet before the next meeting
so we have to go through this whole list in order to do that right that's what I'm okay that's what I'm trying now trying to make sure I tried to set it first but I put the card before the horse last time and okay so you want me to go through each one of these well how does everybody feel do you want to do you want to address this now I'd like to hold a public meeting before the next meeting so that we can get get this going these are these are great I don't need to read them but we're going to do them how does everybody feel so I think we all got copies of them I had a chance to look at them and I have no concerns or questions okay I looked
at them I just wanted to clarify because in one and I might have misunderstood multiple documents but we're saying that the person videoing and it's in red here without disclosing their location I thought that they had to disclose it so that's changed now but we have to Define right go ahead you go ahead that was the only question I had everything yeah so right now the law is that if a board member wants to video conference in they have to disclose their locations of someone and the public can participate from the same location wherever they are That's the Law now in April they gave a new law saying that the board could video conference in without giving disclosing their location provided we take the steps of just um outlining what an extraordinary circumstances and and
that's what the process kind of we have to set up a process have a public hearing go there's those steps okay thank you that was a key part of it yeah that's awesome right so I I've been assured by our great tech people over there that we can do that um and as far as you know defining extraordinary circumstances I think that's something that we can we can choose right we get to Define that and everything so I was I was thinking about that quite quite a bit so I think the you know the most obvious you know extraordinary circumstance you know is you know if one of our members you know has to be out of town you know for business or something and is just physically not able to make a meeting but
they want to make a meeting um the other ex the other the other exception that I'd like to to explain to or to entertain too is is just another commitment you know we're all volunteers on this board but most of us have other volunteer commitments as well so sometimes it's it's not easy to be in two places at once or we have to be out of town because of another commitment but it's not necessarily business so I would like to extend that to you know another commitment that we have that's that's an important commitment well if I had to be you know uh Margaret is is on another board if that board took her out of town not at the same no note if that commitment if it took her out of town for some
reason right but it's not business is all I'm just trying to say it's a volunteer so I think I just want to I just want to clarify that that um that there might be another commitment that we have that that we've made like is that this took me out of town you know for whatever reason for my work here on the board and and I was I had another commitment I would want this to be uh acceptable explanation for being able to video conferencing so I just wanted to extend it to that does anybody else have any other thoughts on you know what might be an acceptable sickness if you were willing to if you thought it was an important enough meeting well it does say illness here too right so I'm looking at 2310
which sort of lays this out right well right well we get to decide right right but but that's that's the way it's laid out and that's kind of what we'd be presenting at the public hearing right so this is kind of what we're agreeing to now and and in that it says right uh reasons that include in our limited to a significant or unexpected factor or an event prohibiting their attendance in persons such as and as a list of things it seems to me that the phrasing not limited to and such as means the kinds of things you're talking about don't need to be explicitly listed in here I just yeah I just wanted to be clear because you know I just want everybody to um feel comfortable with this yeah no I agree I
it it covers everything that I could think of okay I think it's wrong okay um what else do you need us to specifically do and looking into this all right let's see procedure it was to me the written procedure is okay for everybody and okay okay so I would like to do that I mean does everybody feel okay with that I would like to hold a public meeting before our next meeting on this public hearing okay so what time will that be that's December 8th right is that the next board meeting and it'll be at six o'clock or 6 30 when do we know about 6 30. we usually do six months okay does that require a quorum or does it require not a quorum of the board at the public hearing yeah I don't
either it's afford public hearing so I would I would think that the board members should be president if you have a quorum does that change things in other words right it's okay to have the full board there it is okay have the full board there we would we would open the meeting typically anyway and you would be an exact session it just means you would come out of exact session a little early and then um we move right into the regular meeting okay as long as you disclose your location yes yeah um okay thank you for that okay um and now I mean I don't have anything else specifically for board discussion did anybody else have something I was going to uh talk a little bit about our last chat is that what you wanted
to do that um yes or is there another spot you wanted to hold that no I think that is exactly where I want to do it okay well thank you for that yes yes and they can't be related to an employee so there's we had a few people but remember that that can't be employees or a family relation working for the district right jack s we had we had a couple interested so get recruiting I guess right we have to get recruiting I know all right thanks Mike is there anything else under that before the community chat okay um do you want to do a briefing on the community chat you took you were taking notes yeah I can do that yeah yeah so so we had a we had a community chat um at
Netherwood um Ed Denise and I were there we had a number of people from the community it was a very nice chat um I took a bunch of notes and it seemed to me there were sort of three major topics of concern that came up and you guys can correct me where I go uh one which I had also came up with the previous one that you were at was the question of uh renting space in in our facilities we the board had had a conversation uh we set a policy where we are now charging rental fees for space there are tiers and things like that and the concerns that came up at this meeting were I think one was the pricing one of the things we thought was we don't actually know but there
was a suggestion by people there that other districts are charging much less I think is that is that fair that's what some people yes yes um and there was a representative from the Cub Scouts it was a representative from the Hyde Park soccer um who who were concerned about about the cost and and whether the cost was too high and prohibitive for them and so we said we would just bring it back for conversation and and I and I have added it to our policy committee the next policy committee for review which is Monday which is Monday yes it is coming up but so you know that's what that's what I said I would do and I said you know I mean that we would we would look into it so it is on the
next policy and I just wanted to bring it to the board as part of the what we talked about um there was a there was someone who who was concerned about the amount of both in person I think cyber bullying going on it's you know a concern I think Nationwide and and we try to direct them to the proper resources um that are available for them and also gave them some advice on ways that they wanted to sort of get involved personally you know the larger scale to get some advice on that and then the the final thing was there were some folks who who were who who were suggesting that once it just seems that there are at the moment there don't appear to be any programs at the elementary level for advanced students
gifted students or programs for students who are struggling but they're on at the moment in elementary school don't seem to be programs for gifted students um some I think Denise you remember a soar program and an image program that used to be around but RNA Morin so there was some some questions about are these things that we might want to think about and talk about as a board to sort of reinstate things at the elementary school but there was also what came up in that was teachers not feeling as though they had enough flexibility in the curriculum to address directly sort of those those individual needs so you guys tell me where I went wrong all right I think you summed it up perfectly yeah and I think um it's also something that we're talking
about in terms of the 4cs work because you can't squeeze all this interdisciplinary project-based authentic learning into if you're doing every minute of all of the district resources back to back so you know that freedom to make choices I mean that's something that we're we're discussing really seriously um so that is that piece I I want to speak a little bit to it was soar for which was like the remedial program image was the name of and I was here for that um was the name of the gifted program but what it really was and I I did run it for a bit was a really nice enrichment program so the image was just like lovely enrichment and I'll say that the current extended day program that we have through the stimulus Grant is actually
that it is an enrichment program for all students opened up to all students so at the moment and that won't be here forever necessarily that's stimulus Grant funded when at one point we had some rollover funds in title one we did an extended day program that was more steam enrichment current you know similar to the one we have now um so that is something to think about that we do have an enrichment program at the elementary it's just not exclusive to students nominated for being um you know more advanced and people don't you know often bring that concern to Elementary because we do have accelerated honors and you know a lot of opportunities at the secondary but at elementary it's really you know on the classroom teacher to be you know what we used all
differentiating instruction and giving these opportunities but I think it's a valid point that teachers are not feeling like there's a flexibility to be able to provide more of those opportunities um but and our resources or the way that we have our program set up is that most of the day is pretty initialized anyway like the way kids are learning how to read and write it really is at their own pace and for what's next for them and supports there is needed and opportunities to accelerate so um you know again it's a it's a fair point and something that we struggle with but we really haven't ever had a gifted program where we do a gifted test and a handful of kids are taken out and given something different in a conversation with Ed afterwards he
became what became clear to me is that a lot of our a lot of his our hands are tied by state mandates in terms of structuring the school day so so what's programs really run after school because the school day is so so highly structured is that fair yes and and I think we've structured it too you know like taking local responsibility for decisions have been made along the way to bring alignment and consistency and standard based instruction um but I believe that we really have to start looking at all the programs that we purchased as resources and the the teachers the decision maker in the classroom it does not have to do every minute of everything at the same time every day Denise you thought you were the only one apparently I break them
now too so I just wanted to mention too that one thing we've implemented I want to say two years ago universally it's a a Wind Block during the day which is uh whatever I need blocks so that can be both acceleration it can be extension it can be remediation it can be basically with the intent of whatever I need so there is that differentiation that happens in elementary school differently than second and then you're right the day is tight there's only so many minutes in the day but we've carved out time albeit limited and then the rest of it does happen after school so stimulus funds allow us to support about 400 students K-5 every semester fall and spring for enrichment after school again open to everyone we've it's about four times we've increased our
summer extended school year or extended it's not extended school day it's um it's not even extended school year Summer Bridge thank you the Summer Bridge program's grown by about four times so you know from about 70 to 90 students to again almost 400 in the summer and then we've doubled the Camp invention time which used to be one week this year again the funding we're opening it up to everybody and doubling the amount of time to two weeks so during the school day is a little tight is limited um but we're trying to make the best and most of the funds that we can outside of the school day for as many kids Transportation included which is a huge expense for all of these things so I appreciate that thank you these sort of conversations
really helped me get a better sense for for the curriculum and what's going on if you don't mind just one more minute because I I thought I heard you also say something about like the flexibility within the curriculum um and if Eva you talked about resources and programs and sometimes that can be really confusing like what does the state require what do we have decisions about um and where does that all fall and the state a number of years ago started to move away from developing curriculum and giving it to school districts and saying Teach those instead they've moved towards uh Frameworks so and then the local school district has to develop local curriculum in support of or in alignment with the Frameworks what tends to happen in elementary because you have a teacher who's
now responsible for multiple content areas and school districts that would have to develop from scratch locally developed curriculum in all of these areas and then deliver it at a high level is that we purchase sometimes curriculum that's developed by a company or a BOCES which is a team of teachers and administrators regionally um and sometimes we you know these programs fit time-wise with what we have existing sometimes they're challenging and then we have to train on all of these and sometimes we develop the curriculum ourselves so what does like what decisions do you have as a board or do we have as like teachers and administrators really is around what resources we purchase for instance two meetings ago we discussed that change in the math curriculum for that very purpose so here we had the
modules that were 280 plus lessons in a you know or 180 plus lessons in 180 day school year and shifting that to the Eureka Math and the support that we're going to talk about in terms of the coaches later which is more around 145 lessons that are all designed to that same framework so that's where we have decisions that's where we can build flexibility and then really examine what is a program that's supporting a framework or curriculum what's locally developed and how do we want to use those tools to meet the standards so so it's a little bit more nuanced than that but um those are some of the decision points and areas that we have influenced yeah I just want to thank everybody for for that to attend our community chat and our next
one um is on December 6th let's say it looks like our next one is December 6th at Ralph R Smith Library um at seven o'clock so I hope that you'll come and join us I'm not sure I don't have on here who it is I'd have to check the schedule do you do you have I'm sorry I thought you were looking there we'll have to look it up I'm not really sure I can get back to you on that which one of us you know um Mike you had so now we can um now we'll move on to consent agenda items so so Mike you had a question about something right um ten ten one six okay it was a um Dr Michael Doty admin Workshop but it doesn't really say what it's for it
just said we had an admin workshop and twelve hundred dollars yeah it was actually just this afternoon and it was um really well attended and he um is a regular he's an assistant superintendent but he's a regular trainer at the state Council of school superintendents I've been to several of his workshops and it was um really about how to prioritize your day how to be effective and take care of yourself so that you can be effective and a lot of like really Direct Tools for how to manage the multiple tasks emails the um you know all the pressures on on School District administrators and you know how to manage our time more effectively so it was that kind of Workshop where you know ordinarily it's part of a conference where people are driving flying taking
a train staying in hotel having meals and this was just to bring him in so the cost was obviously much less than it would be to send to 25 people out well in the future can we like it says in the attached agreement than the attached agreement that doesn't really yeah so can can we yeah I can certainly send a blurb because he did give us that it just wasn't part of the contract sure does anybody else have any comments or questions about the consent agenda no okay um may I have a motion to approve the consent agenda items 10.1 through 10.19 as presented on the file with the district clerk all those in favor any opposed motion carries may have a motion for 11.1 2023 to 2024 budget development calendar any discussion all those
in favor any opposed motion carries may I have a motion for 11.2 the capital project change orders for the science labs any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries may I have a motion to enter into a second public participation okay any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries um second public participation will be limited to three minutes total per speaker the second segment will be limited to 12 minutes um we did we quote we voted okay all right um I guess we're in public participation is there anybody who would like to dress for okay seeing none oh no so sorry thank you all right my name is Stephen Pemberton um I was the one that's been coming to the last uh public meetings for the Cub Scouts excuse me I
just wanted to give an update um supposedly they said non-profits don't have to pay but we have to pay the 100 Initiation fee so my kind of concern is there really seems to be a not a cohesion with like what is actually going on with it and confusion um and this confusion is community-wide soccer found out about this and through soccer the Cub Scouts found out about this but we don't know how many organizations are not aware of what's going on so um definitely if you go back to the policy board meeting hopefully this can be fixed and brought out to the community the other organizations non-profits that might have been affected by this um that's all thank you okay um I just want to piggyback on that I've had a bunch of people in
different Community organizations ask me about how to register to use the buildings and I've had a really hard time figuring it out a lot of Girl Scout Troops have moved out of the elementary schools to other places because they didn't know what to do the I just put in the paperwork to do the craft fair at the high school and I know it's no pay for us because it's a sgo but to use the gym at the high school for the day was somewhere between twelve and fifteen thousand dollars with the way that our fees are set up so just going to give you like an idea of and that's not using anything but the space so I just want to give you an idea of what it looks like when we're looking at it
from the other side and um I don't know if anybody has like I know the conversation about redistricting hasn't started or been talked about um I didn't know when our five-year enrollment study comes up next we haven't talked about in DLT because we've been in covid mode for so long but I know it's got to be on that list and this is only in my head because of the gentleman from the Bella field thing talking about everything yesterday and how many Housing Development stuff that's going to be coming up so when we're moving forward talking about the equity amongst the buildings you know like if we're going to have Services Equitable to the students in the building we really need to make sure that the sizes of the buildings across our district are Equitable thank
you anybody else okay may I have a motion to close public participation please any discussion all those in favor any opposed okay closed um deep where there you are I'm sorry so yes thank you again and like I said I um I do have it on our agenda for Monday so we're going to talk about it we're going to look it over really well so you know stay tuned all right thank you what was that non-profits yeah I mean I remember it I remember it it too and and but not in not in detail which is why I thought it was a good idea for us to review it well so under the current policy there's there's in it uh a caveat for the board to charge a lesser rate so we've been informing um
non-profits when we hear about them I talked to someone from Boy Scouts the other day that if they use our buildings multiple times they could ask for a separate agreement who have that um item in the board policy the board the board had asked for something like that before they would agree to the policy as we had originally presented so it's not that all non-profits when you pay it's that if there's a group that uses our buildings multiple times throughout the year and it would come to be too costly for them they could have a separate agreement okay I think the other part of that was sort of clarity and so that that may actually be sort of more of a website or you know access issue how do we publicize this notice the policy
but then there's public all right yeah well good points thank you it sounds like it might not necessarily be a policy issue but just that there's pieces of the the procedures that people aren't aware of so they haven't been able to take advantage of the discounted new you know but I would I would hope and imagine that if somebody comes into the school and says hey I want to use this that they would you know look at oh what are you oh you're a non-profit okay you don't have to pay or we have you want to use it a hundred times we have this the schools should communicate to that to the requester right I'm saying there's a community there might be a communication if that's not happening that's got to be right right and
we do have a central facilities coordinator it's a new position so we can certainly refine the process but the board may want to consider adding some of our processes to the actual policy because we do have policies where the process is late yeah okay yeah let's let's flip it over certainly don't want to overburden our groups so we'll figure that out um okay foreign okay um other matters deem necessary by the board does anybody have anything else they wanted to bring up okay we do not need a second executive session um so may I have a motion to adjourn the meeting um any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries mayor adjourned thank you
