the Republic for which it stands one Nations we need to begin our meeting with a motion to accept the minutes from now September 28th meeting any discussion hearing Nana entertain a motion to approve our September 28th minutes all in favor please say aye aye the minutes are approved unanimously we continue our meeting with an opening to public comment and I'll start with the public comments statement good evening everyone we are about to enter the portion of the meeting where we welcome public comments please remember comments are limited to three minutes each and our total public comment is 30 minutes and although state law did not require that we hold a public comment period we feel it crucial that we hear from our communities about the concerns devoted here to listen because we take your concerns
seriously we want to have time to process and research your issues your concerns and questions may be addressed at a future meeting of the board or you may be contacted by an appropriate staff member or administrator if you are prepared written statement and do not have the opportunity to present it please leave a copy with our clerk Pro 10 of the board who will make sure that all the trustees receive please note that state federal privacy laws and collective bargaining agreements prevent us from discussing certain topics in this venue the guidelines are posted on the boardroom wall and also on that placard thank you for your adherence to our rules and the interest in Contin The Continuous Improvement of our district and also please remember to sign our public comment form on the podium do
we have anyone for public comment that long address then we move on first item on our agenda is our superintendents reports Dr patelino thank you Mr Spicer the superintendents report tonight is relatively short but I promise you I would wake up around the 16th will be very long time give me a couple weeks I just want to give you a few District updates obviously Transportation has been uh you know a conversation from the beginning of the year to now we've seen kind of stabilized still have a few pickups here and there and a lot of that is around issues with drivers being sick or drivers you know calling in being hurt those kind of things um just this week we have a 13 bus drivers who who were out for three companies that we use
but we have been able to put things together so again we're still going to have we're going to have pickups but but we're much better off than we were at the beginning of the school year we have all of our routes covered um you know the dismissal person came from high school which was such a problem beginning of the year we have those covered at this point so we're we're getting there um again tomorrow is our emergency dismissal drill which means all of our school district all our school district buildings dismissed 15 minutes early um we 've been able to work with our bus companies to make sure all of that can happen smooth challenge that we really want to make sure we took care of because there's no late buses there's no there's no
other Transportation over in really good shape and thank you to Sharif and ashonda for taking care of all of that work um last couple of days we have been working toward our art goals obviously and we're formulating a report for the board as a whole as far as our finances are concerned I think so important you know we are also going to experience and audit for our art funding are we spending the money on on in the areas that are required by the law our other plugins put out so we are very confident that we are you've all seen our presentation it fits in our tickets in the buckets that were uh but out there by five minutes of this so um we're working on an overall accounting of that and we'll present that to
the board as well as well as the progress that we're making towards part of what the teaching and learning team will bring out next next meeting in our very short superintendents presentation I have a question about that sure I think I heard someone at the news but talk about the request to extend the period of Time for That funding is that you've got to hear that correctly yeah that's out there that's been that's been out there for um almost since the beginning uh quite honestly we don't need anything so we're spending that money pretty well in three years that we that we received it so uh but yeah that is something that's been talked about did I see when I was at conference across my phone came a thing that districts around County got money
for bucks but they don't they don't have their own buses now how is that should we be applying for Grants well Aussie board does have their own buses uh they do they do a hybrid they have they have several of their own buses and then they have contract buses as well so right now from my understanding that that funding that the good elective about the electric buses that's that that's what we're supposed to talk about to be eligible to that you have to own your own buses so the the next and again I don't know if this is 100 sure what I'm just hearing is that the next round of that type of Grant when we'll maybe go into our our contracted bus companies so we are in Collegeville we don't have buses but districts
to have their own buses I think they're a hybrid all right yeah I could go back to trans I'm just curious because I had asked about the bus routes on the website still has not been changed it still says am only it's not up to date yet so it's September I'll get Jessica thank you um regions changes and just a quick update on that we less board reading obviously um you remember we talked about the recent exams and the issues with the scores would be the same and how the effect of our students course averages so we've completed that work I want to thank a bunch of people who did estimate this happen this Bondville Mr Thompson Ms Brown Miss Montana all like all these people who just kind of jumped in and got it
done in like 10 days which was pretty pretty good the grades on the transportation that's what we're doing now we had to go through and make the changes and because it was because of the way it was kept it really had to go by hand so so Gary did all the background working when we passed up to high school and they had to go by hand and make all those changes so now the next step is getting into the transcripts and we're working with EDI our company that does our transcripts and our report cards to make that happen and seniors first and actually you know we started that way but it does make a difference we have to do them all we do them all in the batch anyway so we'll definitely you know we
won't be it's not like the seniors will be done on Monday and it would have been told next Monday though they'll be they're done in a condensed budget just because the way the automation of it sorting them by by course would be that would be um as difficult as sorting them by great and also then you have to really look at by example so there's some seniors take this exam some Junior you know so we're doing it this way seem to have been more efficient and you know Gary's great with systems so he's put together a previous system um and I'll have a large report that's not on the 16th just to give you an idea 1107 courses uh course scores increased as a result of this 700 770 individual students were impacted with those
increases 20 students who were not gaining course credit gained course credit and the average increase of the course for final hours was 2.3 points that we put together today so today I had the same question about the seniors interesting so again I want to thank everyone who's doing a lot of work in our matches I was that was fast um and then I was I know we usually could do this during board announcements that I wanted to be getting the meeting so people who went to the conference I know we usually kind of share things that that we've done at the conference so I wanted to put that at the beginning of the meeting and open to I think um Mr Chauncey Mr Spicer Dr Collins and away all went to the to the municipal
conference so it's going to be one of the whole network of share any experiences workshops that they attended and and anything that maybe they want to bring back to the district but why don't we go right in that a lot of it the attendees would like to share I will go to Mr lamb and Mr Sean and see quite a bit of my time in Dei workshops since that's where we're focusing a lot of our energy what I found is that we're toward the front of the line in in what we're what we are doing um and I did find I looked a lot at like dress codes because that's what we're dealing with in policy and that's Sheeran I have been kind of um assigned that uh Russia Henrietta had just finished theirs this
summer um and then what they were talking about dealing with was much of what our dress code what we're going to be dealing with so I have asked to get a copy of that so that we would be prepared for that I also spent time in superintendents about because I want to see what other evaluation systems were out there and decided that I like ours after after looking at what I was able to see and I can tell you I'm thankful that I'm with the people I am on the board we closed in a lot of writing about how to evaluate and whether to an amount of time it takes and things and I offered them that one of the things that I feel helped to ours is that Innovative calendar because we're getting reports
along the way we can you know ask questions afterwards and we can be on top of things so as the evaluation some of these districts have been like like two weeks that they have multiple meetings doing evaluations and I just ours is much smoother and the other thing I attended was I attended the law conference which was long overdue because I did it the first year I was on the board and there are so many changes um that have come as far as with dress code and other things and gender Equity that I found a very valuable experience and I thank the board for sending me hey Mr Sarah let's see along with two programs essentially um six six uh six districts we're talking about their sorry pulling a blank here about their social emotional
learning programs uh it was that and there's a variety of actually I guess there were only really five districts because there were six speakers but one of them was uh well it was interesting there's a a fellow who through his high school career had a lot of seizures and was a special ed student was actually pushed out of his high school because they couldn't they couldn't give him the services that he needed and then at some point he got some treatment that that alleviated it and so he and he works now with student Advocates and that's actually at a high ones and uh so it's it's a club and uh so students come in that and they're trained to listen to other students during what they hear back to the administration and it's very successful
there um one of but in general you know it's just that the the social emotional Mental Health criteria Focus has just increased tremendously in the last five or six years and then I and there was one I went to on Friday afternoon it was called a perfect pitch and I saw one there were two people that were at from the University of New Mexico one was a interest in the other was a two declare and they said they were best friends uh a white woman a black man uh and I heard I met the woman I entered the first session and she said that they were going to call it something about uh inclusion but they didn't didn't miss but didn't want that term to be the title of the program I guess there are
some areas of the state where diversity equity and inclusion not a it's not a readily accepted or concern and I don't know what parts of the state that might be but it was that was the interesting take away from that session thank you Dr Collins I think going on Computing sessions had to make lots of decisions and actually had to leave one in the middle to catch another one um but I had also been at this um social emotional learning panel and it didn't spoke of where there were five panelists represent participants representing different districts and there was really a focus on mental health and the ways in which resources were harnessed um coordinated and really delivered in a cohesive fashion to everyone in a district and so several of the districts had a headstrong
on this before the pandemic and were well sort of situated to feel the challenges of the pandemic but um a couple of panelists spoke of the utility of the district's mental health Team and as a psychologists um students teachers and other administrators and to help guide an entire assessment so they first assess the um the conferences uh the henna from an open up my computer but they were assessing the strengths and areas and needs of improvement in terms of the resources available in the district and then three years later it came back which was last year and assessed how they were doing in response to the news that they had detected on that first assessment this is a they had hospitals and other Mental Health professional organizations to help guide students through this assessment but
I just found they seemed so this particular District which is South colony was incredibly empowered in the way that they were tackling mental health in their District and so I left feeling really inspired by the possibilities of that they laid out in terms of being proactive and not just reacted so they were doing Universal screening of C is K5 and 9 grades where to try and catch students who are silently struggling as opposed to those who were demanding attentions in other ways or catching the attention otherwise um and they were that was situated with on the same schedule as their academic testing and so it just became normalized that everyone was being Mental Health night about that was interesting the other piece from that that I'll just say from that session that I walked with
was that that team District had put together an incredible resource map that's a public document that is on their website and is available for all of their stakeholders to open up and no matter whether you're a teacher or student a parent who you might go to under what circumstance who in the district is supporting that we need and I found that really user friendly and again it sort of inspired I switched my focus to data I went to this really interesting Express um went to some interesting talk um that was delivered by um two folks from the business office in Saratoga and one had the title that was something like director of budget and program integration and said he's the only person with that title in the world I'm not sure but I liked this
idea the idea was data-driven approaches to return on investments intentional budgeting and are there ways in which you can ask the question particularly with all these new initiatives that have been started can can we ask whether um the money we're spending is delivering impacting students is it impacting our district um is it sustainable given good way ahead give the art funding so um and they just went through processes of how that might work and the challenges involved in it it's not the trivial undertaking and they have two people devoted to data in their District that actually spent a lot of time probing mostly even small initiatives something like peer tutoring and ask and asked who's it surveying in this event it talks about the cycle and when in the year you might bring the stuff
in terms of the intentional it's interesting as well but it was really thank you Dr Collins and I want to begin my talk also why thank the entire district for sending us to conference there were a lot of great sessions and workshops and the one issue I had was the same with Dr Collins is that a lot of us was sitting in some session that is going to leave to go join some other sessions that we also wanted to sit in but it was well worth and I thought this year's New York State School Bus Association Convention had some enlightening sessions I was able to attend four sessions one was an all-day School seminar the information is too great to share but I will be putting the book they gave us in Miss series office
if anybody wants to see and it's a great book to review because it has all the slides from all the sessions that um all the lawyers shared with with Mr laminar so it's a great resource it's it's not like being there but but it's a really good really good resource to have another another was a school board goal setting and the big Improvement they stretched this year was insisting that District goals be made smart so I was so proud to sit up because our district made our goals smart this year so proud another was a fascinating session on diversity inclusion equity and its its convergence with Title IX nund and transgender issues [Music] what districts need to do to be updated another and and a large part of that was a great deal of the
initiatives we're already doing in policy so once again I was very proud that Kingston is is the head of the Curve occurred another discuss another discuss the individual rights of board members and my last was a Uvaldi debriefing in which a Texas SWAT team dissected the entire incident at Robb Elementary School and provided Safety and Security recommendations for attending board members my session notes for all the courses I attended are in the board library for you to review and board members if you have any questions please feel free to call me any questions for the attendees from Dr bonds I'm particularly interested in the well actually in both assessments that you tended it sounds like there was some overlap but is there a way for you to share that math in particular that you were
talking about that may be something that we could replicate here with our own resources and then um it's on our website okay so we can include maybe I'll let you in person yeah I can pull the resources so that it's easy to find it I mean I mean that that mental health scheme like that's kind of interesting um and maybe that's something I don't know where we would discuss something like that because that makes me an owl thing like except for how to talk about yeah I mean it's interesting that that I don't know the answer to that question it brought in people from a lot of different courses Health and Wellness oh okay maybe it it was a pretty big I think that's more yeah it sounds like and also sounds like it's always
very school-based right yeah yeah well I guess yeah right right but I think would just be interesting to understand a little bit more about how that worked and if it's something that we would think about either amending or some kind of process that might benefit our students I don't know if it would but it may be worth a conversation yeah I um I have a list of professionals within their district and not bad students on this thing remember that just a few days but um and I have the bigger composition in my notes and I'm happy to share my notes as well so I'm converted from my scribble um but um that also I'm interested a little bit more improving the shape assessment that they did and the speaker who's the psychologist or the district
um made made the clear point that it was not a trivial undertaking either like that as fast getting down for several hours every two weeks for some period of time to get that done but once it was done they then had very clear report card essentially of what they needed to work on and return to they have seen some success so I'm happy to share the resources I have and I I wasn't inspired and I I wondered how we could just we have a lot of resources and finding them all and networking them together Saturday the collaborative effort seemed I think what was most remarkable to me was that there were Point people and there were things happening and people knew where to go whether it was a parent or a student or an administrator
saying we have this issue here is our network of resources to address it so I really likes the Pokemon I think the first two speakers the woman from South Colony and the nuts I forget what what district they were both School psychologists and I don't know which one of them said that um at one of the districts they bring in retired psychologists to do testing because too often psychologists who are trained you know psychologists I mean they do testing and they're not they don't have time for if they're if they're testing uh takes all of their time they don't have they have expertise in mental health issues but they don't get to use it shape assessment and I and I knew that they said they bring in retired psychologists to do testing so interesting I
didn't catch that they did start those two I think it was two years before covid but it did and I'm sure any District can benefit from all right support mapping like that where if you have some sort of Crisis and it's something this joined this many times that um most workplaces including school districts take physical health very seriously and don't take as seriously mental health and mental health issues and a mapping like that would be a huge Advantage for any District for parents and uh and students to know where to go to for any particular type of help that you need yes Miss Jordan the conversation and I also think it ties into the Urology event that you didn't care too I was thinking the same thing all going over this it seems that people
are coming inclusion that the best way to prevent violence is to keep cats on the community and when they look back that that missed opportunity is what leads to the violence so we really are serious about safety schools that's probably the best investment investment me better than even hardening or I really appreciate that and I think we need to explore whatever we can to enhance what we already have I guess to that end I don't want to decided Dr jacobowitz's question about where is that Dr pepperly is that yeah where's that discussion take place other than we can share resources coordination we know what we have but how do we coordinate all that and then communicate that where does that live is good yeah I mean there's some apartment takes the safety safety and prevention
you know it's a map it's in that world one of the things that but if you don't have a focused group with with the accountability but accountability or for pushing toward you know we spread the Admiral amount of things you end up with a lot of Focus that we want I mean we're gonna have to bring people in from other places to help us coordinate what people have but try to think where exactly that would live but we'll talk about that I think that's tradition I know taking a bunch of notes originally framed at the it was really in the framework of social emotional learning that this panel occurred and so this is the way to assess the test that we're doing and how we can please also really like the data things well just
just click the tracking and you know how do we know where we're seeing progress and what is the evidence of that I think that sounds great also I can share those slides yeah one thing I was disappointed with about that session was they had it in the ballroom and there were two big screens one on each side so everything was everything was being videoed and displayed and I asked afterwards if they could make the video available and they said no and it was really a disappointment to me because the entire program it was a it was a dual session it went from 9 9 15 or 9 30 to 12 30 or something like that with a 15 minute break it was I mean there was no uh unnecessary conversation you know it would and
Jay Verona was the moderator because someone from just assistant or just the deputy the commissioner was going to lead it from from State Ed department and she had covered so he she gave him her notes which were really quite extensive and it was just a really excellent presentation from start to finish that was a major complaint of a lot of the attendees were all professionals and we're also at a time and sessions begin and end but they weren't willing to share their slides except the law seminar has all that slides in here but we all wanted to know how to load your slides to take them back home I have all of them every one of them because I hit download for one session and got 1295 on that phone and I can't figure out
where they are and how to get them off [Music] actually I can find them when I think all I have to do is go to the session and click on it and I get supplies for that session but I don't know where they are to get rid of them it's the last misfortunately well that's why we don't have a video of this band because [Music] course but you want to add that I'd love to uh the research director of better who's also very important next on our on our agenda we have our board event reports we have only one Board of report so we'll hear from this Lau chair of audit and finance committee finance committee met on Tuesday October 25th uh 2022 the meeting was called to order at 903 the committee reviewed and
approved the minutes of September 27 2022 meeting committee reviewed as Treasures claims Auditors and funds reports with recommendation for acceptance by the board I would like to move to accept the September 2022 Treasures claims Auditors and funds report then seconded all those favorite place they are foreign Mrs foschetti spoke to the committee about this year's internal audit which will focus on payroll Mr because now we'll be working with the middle schools and scheduling an audit of the extra classroom activity funds Mr Shaughnessy asked about pilot information and how the district website could be used to share that information with the community Ms Carbone will be looking into this the meeting adjourned at 9 38 a.m our next meeting will be Tuesday November 22nd 2022 at 9 A.M in the boardroom thank you any questions did
you have any other reports for for acceptance so that was the only thing it's all together oh you did thank you any other questions for Mrs lau and audit and finance receive me the grubco pays significantly higher pile things than golden Health Logistics and this was you know this was like eight years ago that may snow and they started paying a thousand dollars per unit uh you know that's in 2013 dollars not in 2022. whereas the uh golden health project is paying proposing 350 dollars per interest so that's a 20 so a dollar in uh uh a dollar in 2013 is now a dollar 25 or a dollar twenty seven I think there's significantly more payments being made by Repco and by these other developers and I don't quite understand that why are they why
are they why is the city in the county going to private developers when we have a an in-county organization not-for-profit organization that really does excellent work and you know afford to pay to make higher pilot Banks than the private owners any other questions for Miss Lau or audit in finance or any other comments about budgeting order okay hearing none next up on our agenda is our consent agenda are there any resolutions any board member would like hold for separate consideration experi none seeing none can have a motion to pass the consent agenda as a whole second move this secretary any discussion hearing none all in favor of passing the consent agenda as is please say aye opposed nay the consent agenda pastors unanimously we have two donations tonight miss Anderson the board wishes to Express
gratitude for a donation of a trombone from Mrs Tiffany Dockery to the city of Kingston School District English Department and the board wishes to express its gratitude for a donation from the Lisa libraries of 58 books to Myers Elementary School library we are surely all grateful thank you Mr Anderson is there any trustee have an item for old business trustee any items for new business we come to our second public comment session is there anyone who wishes to address the board are there any board member announcements just showing a speech I'd like to come out the masturation again for the regents data that was developed and presented and I was thinking of this in terms of I think it was back in 2010 I spent a year and a half on committees that were looking
at data-driven instruction you know at the time data-driven instruction was a word that frightened it seems The Faculty because they didn't know what it was and over a five-year period maybe became acclimated to it and one is still used but I just think that this Region's data is an example of guided data-driven governance rather than because sometimes disagreements come up because opinions are different and there's no and there's no data to look at them we only make our decisions based on opinions there's data behind it then we can look at the data has come to a more amenable solution to everybody thank you Mr Stardust I'm sure we all concur um Mrs Jordan I would just like to thank board members who are parents of members to ask your president Lou the army mostly the
stoop dedicated so much time and energy into being wonderful and they were in Syracuse and were able to become second place I believe finishers in the whole state fabulous program and I congratulate everyone involvement because it really does take them for me and I'm glad they have even though you were inside and I think it may be appropriate to invite the drum Majors to one of our board meetings congratulations and seniors too many students [Laughter] it was a beautiful night it was a great issue but it was very very fun in that band really is a treasure for sure um and they're all we also had some other great achievements this past week I don't feel happy and our football team is playing tonight and it would be great to find ways to celebrate all
