and mr parnell will keep time for you my name is eric dovinkin excuse me uh as a taxpayer i appreciate and understand all that to do for our community you oversee a 200 million budget thousands of employees several buildings in short we run a very big business however as a parent i feel we have lost the sight of why we have a school system we have a school system to serve our children to serve our children better i would like to see one board meeting dedicated to just that we have administrators teachers board members and parents come together and talk about what is working right and what is not working make decisions in the school that have a huge impact on kids at home here are two small examples this past year made the decision
not to have an honor this decision had a negative effect on your daughter my daughter loves school she loves her teachers she puts a lot of effort into her schoolwork like anyone who loves something who works hard at it it's nice to get some recognition for that accomplishment my daughter would have made the owner every quarter this past year but you denied her without recognition this was just one of the many mistakes that were made this past year on the other hand we teamed up with the kingston parks department and had a poetry writing contest about the sugar maple tree this was a wonderful decision it had a very very positive effect on my daughter she had a huge smile on her face she was happy and excited just to enter her phone she didn't
think her poem was very good but her mother and i thought it was a native just like her when her phone was chosen as one of the top poems she was jumping for joy she was so proud and excited she got to read her poem half in public and she even get to meet the mayor so moving forward i would hope we can all come together to inspire our children to go to mars to find a cure for cancer and to human rights had not expected to say anything but i wanted to congratulate the board members who were re-elected and the president of the vice president election and dr pennerville mr olson on the extension of the contracts all very good news but mr verge that is a shock and as a long time advocate
in the school district i can hardly imagine this district without you but thank you so much for everything you've done for the kids and for all of us and uh thank you mrs bowers any other public comment okay hearing none we'll go to the superintendent's report dr palin thank you it's nice to be able to stand up here again see people this is great several things in the superintendent's report tonight the first thing i'm going to start with is the class of 2021 which is a brief overview on friday june 25th on the most beautiful night in the nine graduations that i've been to here in kingston we had mild but cool wild temperatures with cool winds no rain no even threatening of rain a few clouds it's very very pleasant i mean like we're
usually soaking wet for sweat or soaking wet from rain so this year this year our graduation rate we had a total graduation we had a total graduating class of 405. our all students graduate was about 81.16 our black and african-american subgroup graduation rate was 76.4 our hispanic graduation rate was 66.1 students with disabilities 75.2 we had eight students receive the cdos three students passed the task and we had 161 of our students received advanced agents diplomas 38 of our students at suny ulster 30 plus college credits and we had two students who for the first time in case didn't receive the seal of biliteracy so we will be as we go into august uh our august graduation after summer school we will have a more comprehensive uh report on the uh and the profile of
the class of 2021 but that's what happened by june 25th and anybody have any questions regarding this doctor can you have a sense of how many students will be graduating um i believe we have a possibility of 14. and we're working with them on credit recovery and summer school and we're going to get them across that also a very brief summer school report today was the second day of summer school and i want to start by thanking dr colisello and miss bonville this was a different summer school than what we usually done we usually have done i should say i especially want to thank ms bondville and the secondary team this is the first time we've ever hosted our own summer school we usually have it for fosi's many many school districts participate and just
to give you a quick idea there are about kingston high school there are 400 students participating in summer school this year so for those of you who have been principals mr spicer you know that that period that that requires to create a whole new master schedule a whole new you know basically a mini school year within the school so i mean i know they work right at the last minute to be ready for tuesday's opening so thank you to the secondary team for that work it's been uh you know i i think we probably won't change this moving forward seeing the number of students we have participating far outnumbered what we've had in the past so we're really excited to have this many students on our campuses session one at george washington started two days
ago right now we have 125 students within attendance we have more registered than that so maybe a few days for students to get you know parents and students get ready to come back to school at bailly we have 200 students at kingston high school i said we have 397 students stuff oregon students and our students with disabilities summer school at edson being 100 students so we have about 850 students on our campus right now and we expect session to probably be a little larger at the elementary school at the elementary and the middle level so we're running we're running really a school district about the size of uh some of our neighbors during the summer here so it's exciting time there's no no slowing down i do also want to say we do we're also
offering on top of transportation breakfast and lunch but also our producers gross offering after care at both of our uh elementary locations right now with gw healthy kids will begin on just took them a monday days to get up and running and parents get to understand that that is there um that is going to cost families 50 a week that's been subsidized by the kingston city school district in our federal funding as well as a private donor who anonymous to bring that cost down from about 135 a week to about 50. so we'll be working to subsidize also when we go to chambers uh when they will be using the ymca at their after account so we provide transportation to other aftercares transportation to and from food breakfast and lunch and after care for people
who want to keep their students in the school building so we really put together between the community partners that we're working with at the secondary youth ensemble go beyond greatness family woodstock cce um our kss agriculture club has stepped up here to work then that time we have the united states tennis association and the center for wellness they're all working within our schools at the secondary level doing um social emotional work and different things with our kids on top of the academic offerings that we have we will also for the older students this year for the very first time be offering drivers education which is um you know something that we haven't done so we're going to do a little bit of everything it's really a busy and exciting time in kingston for july any
questions on that go ahead i'm i'm wondering about summer 9 which has been a program that we've often offered to help rising 9th graders who don't think might be at risk i'm wondering how many kids are involved in that and i know there's a real effort to make sure they're upset and ready to hit the gun running when they're coming yeah they're not so basically the entire ninth and tenth grade really basically this whole entire school summer mine now with different offerings started you know with academics mixed in with social emotional and community-based partner groups and that kind of work uh but our summer and you know i combined all the numbers and i know that this bond did can be broken down by grade but i combined it all four numbers but i will
say ninth grade is our largest four hundred group ninth grade might be more than 150 of those so we do have large movement next year okay that's good i mean those kids need to be trying to get one and how is transportation working are we really like any kid from anywhere in the distance who wanted to come we will pick you up at your home and take you to this phone no not necessarily at their home so we do have some certain locations we've created bus stops um you know again dr paul salud and miss bonville and mrs floyd our transportation director working looking where we have kind of high density pickups where we can make stops on certain routes like on broadway we're making multiple stops on broadway we're picking up at the middle
schools kind of thing so we are we don't have enough buses enough drivers but i think there's been a lot of creativity uh in the transportation department to really get as close as we can to that door-to-door service but one of the exceptions i was really happy to see that we were able to do is drive our students to our students from our programs to cce from our programs to the hodge center so students who are going to aftercare isn't ours we're getting their business now that's right that's great and i'm really glad to hear about the aftercare at the elementary stuff that i think that's really important um so you mentioned a couple times over the last few months i've said how the summer pool is different from previous offerings i'm wondering if you
could expand on what that actually means it looks like on a daily basis in terms of meeting the needs of kind of place yeah we're mixing and obviously we want to be academic but we also want to hit that social emotional piece and we also give kids a reason to come students a reason to come so you know the day is blended so for example at that night i'll use 9th grade for for an example 9th grade student may have um you know math and then his next period he's working with cca they're doing and they're doing drumming they're doing whatever that that is so throughout the day we've blended in almost like electives in the regular school event where usually anybody knows anything about summer school usually some schools drill and kill you come
in it's for students who weren't passing especially at the secondary level it's regions review reasons for the agreements review features review get to that region's exam obviously you want to do this year because we don't have business exams so blending in those different community partners extending the day a little bit lending those community departments as well as the feeding and the transportation and the wraparound car these are things we usually would do right okay so if someone's watching now and say that sounds really appealing can they still sign up for the second question or that um i would say they should call i mean i know we will put people on waiting lists at the elementary level and one of the other issues that we talk about stories of clusters is shortage of teachers so
you know we we reached far and wide to get as many teachers as we could um and you have to understand there are some teachers who maybe wanted to take the summer off which i completely understand but uh so we had to limit some of the numbers we did our expectation in the beginning and i think i may have said this before not to turn anyone away um but if we don't have the supervision of the teachers and the questions to deal with that we have to have already school and we're also offering hot lunch hot meals at all the parks and common in conjunction with the city okay so we're really working hard to make sure we get um the food out there for our students whether they're in our buildings or in the
programs and parks very well are those meals are they being paid for through the community eligibility program right now we still have free lunch for everyone this summer paid for by the community eligibility possibility program but the state of your state is funding the complete things everyone is free during the summer okay and we're still having services from the last program yeah for the year right we don't have a surplus from the lunch program from the oven this year um we i mean we usually do and you're right just remember we usually anyone who's been seeing our reports in the past we usually have a significant surplus in our lunch program our lunch program has been run very efficiently but with the state of emergency and coping 19 we have fallen behind as we said
in the budget process we did have to subsidize the food service budget for this year but i i'm kind of feeling once we need our students back and we go back to our regular serving at all the schools we'll be able to get back i know for many of you this is a repeat but for many people it is not um go over our federal allocation plan the kansas city school district uh well this is not the the fs10 or the budget numbers in the dollars and cents because this is really our our plan as far as what we want to execute programmatically throughout the district um i know we did a town hall uh last tuesday it's been on our website since wednesday and i know it gets presented to the board um the
friday prior to the first next week so as you know the kansas city school district has received 21 million dollars in federal funding to be used over the next four years full funding streams have guidance and restrictions on how this money can be used the following presentation is the king city school district plans to use these funds not only to bridge the gaps from proven but to improve student achievement student health and well-being and to address equity and make meaningful substantial systematic change in the kingston city school district the plan was created using stakeholder input district data best practices and research-based approaches in all of our areas the plan also also represents the kansas city school district's commitment to our students and to our community we must commit to these changes if kingston city school
district the same same in four years we have not done our job and we will admit the greatest opportunity to give into public education in our lifetimes i will also add this plan is not written in stone so the extensive review outreach and evaluation as we go through this process and identify areas that need to be changed it's an iterative process and will be ongoing we started with guiding principles around this planning focusing on students committing to a multi-year approach targeting investment to increase services for students who need it most and transparency in establishing our commitments we work with community partners we held about 18 meetings including them also used our new thought exchange that had over 100 800 participants and registered almost 20 000 thoughts in that thought exchange but i do want to
thank these community groups who took their time to spend time with me or to spend time with members of my cabinet to talk about their ideas and i think the feedback i've received over the last couple of weeks many of these people um many people reached out and said you took what we wanted in there so thank you we did work with our district leadership teams which are our teams made up of parents students teachers community members who really create our district comprehensive improvement plan absolutely worked with devon who brought them together the boys and girls club from the ulster immigrants defense network representatives from citizens action center for creative creative education kefc kingston emergency food collaborative holster county department of youth our friends to the ymca ktf our building principals our bilingual family workers
our homeless coordinators ulcer boces and we had some three town balls we have very common themes these are things taken right off uh on exchange but the themes were very similar so looking at those themes we created commitments first commitment was addressing learning loss improving academic outcomes one of the things that people said loud and fair is what united for our students who lost all this time in school second is provide students social emotional support and physical well-being addressing the unique needs of our english language learners students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students dealing with diversity equity inclusion and access issues within our kingston school district issues around technology reviewing our facilities and evaluation and community input first of addressing our learning loss our first episode as our summer programs that we just discussed we're
also going to get to the regular school year we're putting after school programming in all of our buildings including the top healthy kids extended day and we're also working with the lions day again for the school year so this is something we've had after school programs two of our buildings were the tops but we have not had them across the elementary we've always had middle of the voice head high but we wanted two at this epidemic so we will have after school programming at every elementary school extending our credit recovery again one of the things one of the things that we find very useful for our students who maybe are not traditional students our students who fall behind is having that credit recovery program so we're extending it in the middle schools and high schools
we've also extended it to work with our community partners we now have a credit recovery program going on in the boys and girls club and i had a picture that i wanted to show you and put it on there but i couldn't go out and do it so that would be another time reducing our class size is k-3 that was one that's been one of our commitments as a school district probably three years but being able to maintain that in the at the same time that having a tax levy limited increase of zero was something that we want to use our federal funds to make both those things happen and we're working towards an average class size below 20 students so our squad class size at the elementary level below 20 students across all grade
levels again space does not always work for that some of our school buildings but we're really striving for that goal and we're really close i met with dr felicio today i think we're we're going to be surprisingly in good shape although there's not a lot of talk about this in the federal funding and when people talk about the american government planner there's not much about improving academic outcomes there's a lot of talk about should we how are we going to fill the gaps how we're going to make up for what we lost but our feeling is we want to make up a real loss but we also want to use this as a springboard to get to places where we're not to fix things that we're not that we haven't been fixed to right wrongs
within our school district and the academic outcomes we look at what are what are the areas you really need to grab onto reading is a great area we need to grab onto so one of our commitments is by june 2024 all students will be reading at grade level by grade 3 and by june of 2022 our all students will be performing a grade level in math 5-3 and by june 2024 we want our graduation graduation rates being 100 how we're going to do these things to get to grade level by grade 3 we are going to adopt wilson foundation response curriculum it's a multi-center approach to phonics one of the things that our data and our teachers have told us is our students are lacking in font skills and phonics they're lacking in skills and
bodies at the early ages they want us to instill that early to really create good readers when they get older we're going to fully implement our pioneer valley reading curriculum this is a guided reading approach that we've had in the district for several years but we need to ensure that we have the proper pda the proper materials and the proper supervision and really the coaching amongst our teachers to make sure that this is fully implemented a fully implemented reading curriculum is necessary across all schools and all grade levels using the art and killing him for students with disabilities is a multi-sensory approach we have multiple teachers who are trained in that we're going to make a commitment to make sure that all of our special education teachers agreement teachers are trained in the multi-center approach
we're going to increase our response to intervention faculty at the elementary middle and high school so we're asking how does this happen so how does this create you know this how do we get to this goal using these apps using that using the early uh implementation of foundations using a fully implemented curriculum using art and healing and identifying where students are falling down and then having the staff to actually do something about it to have the reading teachers have the reading specialist to have the ais teachers at the high school there to actually do something about it to be able to give that intense of instruction in the areas where students are weak and get them up to where they need today our new social studies and science curriculum and literacy has a literacy focus
enhanced music and art we've just created a really nice partnership with barbon and we're going to continue to build our capacity as i said professional development faculty and staff in wilson foundations in our writers workshop as well as in our pioneer valley reading curriculum we are also committing to extending our montessori training to george washington to our teachers assistants and our classroom teachers as well as our administration looking at getting the grade level in math great continuing to use our engaged new york which is kingston developed curriculum but giving those teachers the support they need in their response to intervention and their academic intervention services choose when they when they use that and they're using it well and they identify areas where students need help they have the resources to go to they have someone
to come in and do that and deliver those tier two and tier three uh response to intervention um um supports we're also going to invest in a new tiered rti intervention curriculum which are numbers worlds and do the math both are research-based programs and we're again continuing to build our capacity professional development we're all faculty and staff and really we're really focusing on turnkey obviously one of the things we want to do is not have recurring expenses but if we can turn key and build the capacity of ourselves that's some that's an investment now that we'll have forever 100 students graduate from kingston high school a lot of people think this is the loftiest of the three i disagree i think we continue to focus on our cohort model we identify the students who are
falling behind as we have and give them intensive interventions to get them where they need to use our credit recovery program increase our guidance support identify who are these students that aren't up to date or where they are are they our english language learners do they need more guidance support we've identified through communication with our community and our faculty and staff that they did but this is really a need so we're going to add guidance support and make sure that one is for our english language learners expanding our credit recovery increasing our academic intervention services expanding our high school program and now we'll be offering including the ell and designers learners night school an exploration later start yes doctor um research is telling us okay we can't really we can't really ignore it anymore the
research is telling us that students of that of high school age need to perform better when they start later so i think something we need to look at we are looking to hire an outside consultant to come in and look at the complications around that i think that's a good set of outside eyes on a topic of that magnitude would be important for us to have but again those are those kind of strategies around um already started working with this bondo and mr uh around the class of 2021 we've already identified exactly where we are and we're identifying exactly who the students are and exactly how we need to focus on what what the areas that they are uh where they're struggling so i think that's going to be this is this is a really
lofty goal but i think it's doable social emotional and fiscal well-being something that was very important obviously it was very important to the federal government in the state when they gave us this money to understand that was very important to our families as well as we did this i went through this all style all of our students will have access to quality and mental health services and social emotional supports and by june 2024 we'll all have to have a fully established restorative practice program k-12 schools would have updated new place-based areas play spaces and playgrounds students will have access to meals they include fresh food vegetables and locally sourced foods and by 2022 kansas city school district will walk with free swimming lessons to all kings to city school district students and their families looking
at the social emotional supports again on-site mental health clinics we're going to be partnering with astor and we will have on-site mental health clinics in eight of our ten buildings so we're excited about that um astr is providing licensed mental health practitioners in our buildings that will work with our students and their families a little more closer to our faculty and staff and assist in crisis situations as well we have dedicated social workers at each school additional bilingual social workers looking for three district one expanding our trauma important training program which has been so successful at jfk to be a district-wide program adapting adopting the stanford harmony social emotional learning curriculum at the elementary schools stanford harmony is a research-based social emotional review that can be integrated right into the classroom very easily by professional
teachers we are going to have registered behavioral technicians at all our schools and we are going to hire a board certified behavior analyst for some people called the behavior specialist and we are also looking to hire an attendance engagement social worker for the elementary schools we have an attendance person at the high schools we have one at the middle school we have not had one at the elementary schools which seems a little backward now that we really look at that let's stop let's get those habits of early age and then we can move on we're sort of practicing approach we've talked about stored practices for many years we've worked hard we've created a new uh code of conduct that reflects the district's values around the storage practices but we still have not implemented a district-wide
restorative practices program we're doing a fantastic job at the middle level with the institution with the international institute for restorative practices thanks to the safe and supportive schools grant we are going to replace that statement support schools grant money with federal money and we are going to expand that partnership um in the middle end now we're looking at doing it into the elementary level as well we're going to establish a restorative practice task force which i think is important because it's really one of the things about restorative practices is making sure everyone knows exactly what that means what those are and what the benefits of those are for people i think that there's a lot of misunderstanding so we want to have task force that have parents students administrators board members and community members there
so we can be sure everyone has the same idea and that we're communicating what is the story what are historic practices um at the high school we're really lucky to just just start a new partnership with family woodstock we're going to have an embedded restore and practice facilitator in kingston high school she will work with our faculty and staff do embedded professional development and coaching as well as be kind of that go-to person when we have something that we need to help us with a restorative circle or a mediation so we're excited to welcome family woodstock into that program updating new place spaces and playgrounds we'll have our architects review all of all of our areas our outside play commitments our basketball tools our play fields etc one of the things that came out many
times in our surveys and in our thought our conversation in our thought exchanges ada specializing goodness for students with disabilities so we do have some if you look at graves for example we do have uh special swings but we don't have that in every one of our every one of our playgrounds because that's something important for us to consider so that all of our students have equal access to the play we're going to base more to form school-based committees to make recommendations for those players in the past the pto has been in charge the videos contend with this responsibility to not only you know communicate with vendors to raise the money um you know in the past but i think now with our focus on social emotional wellness and physical well-being having these great spaces
as having a district take charge of this is important again we'll engage plate contractors and our architects engineers as well as mr clapper over the philippines department we're already i mean this says 2022 but we're already moving this i don't think i'm going to change that date because we're already in very good shape here obviously we all know we hired a new food service director chef dave who's really expanded our community partners and our local food partners from about five to almost 18 from last year to this year but he's he's already having this goal but we're going to we're going to allocate funding to support farms with partnerships one of the issues with barbara school is the local farming the local farms are more expensive than some things we can buy in large products
so we can we can we can kind of support that with allocated funding to make up that difference so it's not a budget situation to make sure we can have more locally grown foreign food right to our school food education program will be developed and implemented i've worked with several different companies that are corporations i'm sorry and kingston emergency food collaborators and we're talking about how we can bring these groups in some of them are in our in our buildings a little bit here and there but not um as the way we want them to be in so many places school gardens using we have a food education so we're kind of looking forward to you know partnering with groups of land to learn so they can come in and help us plant gardens and
do food programming with our students the next case program and we're going to examine expanding the community eligibility program as you know most of our schools create reduced ones for all of our breakfast animals for all the students who come to the buildings so can we expand that to have that for every school and every student i know there's legislation out there around this as well but we're gonna we're gonna study that can we do that without um without creating fiscal stress for our food service program addressing the unique needs of english language letters students with disabilities we're adopting to do curriculum fast forward curriculum which is a curriculum and research-based curriculum that works uh that's really focused on helping english language learners as well as students with dyslexia we're adding an additional bilateral family
worker and our bilingual social workers in the science learner outreach program we're going to have a group of people and a director or a group of young people who are going to go door-to-door and they're going to be talking to families talking to talking to students about getting to school about what their needs are what what the things we need to do to help support them we're actually doing it right now through a grant we'll lose that grant at the end of the summer we're going to pick up that program and just put it into this owner and continue creating a psychic newcomer program at khas in the middle schools dedicated guidance counselors language learners i mentioned earlier you want to start parent academies and all of that things that i'll read is kind of
an addition to the to our outreach program having that having that those parent academies and some of you remember we did this for a while and we kind we kind of let it let it slide away so we're going to bring those parent academies back have our teachers have our principals have our staff be there to work with families on things we need to hear what they need and help them where we can create programs around them and speech intervention services at the early levels expanding related service pushing a related service put your model is an integrated approach it meets students needs early on so what we do is we put in all the supports they need there the same speech or social emotional learning programming into that class push it in all students have
access to this to that those supports what we're finding at chambers and many of you have heard this i've seen this we're finding chambers of students who receive that early who receive that in that kindergarten year they don't need those supports when they move on to first grade we've seen success we've looked at it for about four years now and we think it's time to expand when we expand district quality we've created a partnership with deborah and deborah program's training and support program for students for students with behavioral needs this will enable cases a school district to bring back students who sent students all over the state for these programs we didn't have our own our local bosses don't have doesn't have one we send students you know into westchester county for this um on
the bus for an hour an hour and a half students with behavioral needs should not be on the bus so our partnership with the developer allows to bring some of those students back and they'll be across all of our school districts all of our school buildings providing services for students diversity equity inclusion and access by december of 2021 where the development has planned a plan for faculty and staff to to proportionately reflect the diversity of our student body by june of 2024. one of these things this this was loud and clear in all of our conversations in our thought exchange people were very concerned with the lack of diversity within our faculty and staff so we've had then the court has had a goal of this we've had about this every year for the last
five years of michael's movement work goals it's time we put it out there and that we make this happen so we're going to have a plan we're going to execute the plan and part of that is what we're going to talk about with our with our department diversity equity and inclusion also by june 22 king city school district we've got the thorough curriculum review and adopt cultural involvement curriculum and for my teacher to support information you need we are going to be reaching out to get help with this and i think this isn't something we have the capacity and house to do necessarily then we need to reach out and bring in some experts to assist us and help build our capacity so we can do this ourselves as we go through the video as
we go on by september 2020 established department diversity equity inclusion again they believe the group that will help us lead this leave us through this work we're looking to have a director of diversity equity inclusion as well as administrative improvement retention and networking for educators of color one of the issues that we talk about proven is one thing retention is enough having those network opportunities for having someone to create those opportunities in a safe place for educators of color is something that we find is the way we would be able to retain the teachers that we're able to recruit so those two positions will make up that office um there'll be a budget there'll be clerical support but we'll also look for them to help us coordinate with our current partnership partnerships such as dr
axe peterson brothers at bard and our in our bar eoc grant which we're just about hopefully to get this is also an educator's color initiative um our commitment on technology another big one with parents they wanted to know when is still going to get the promo and when we go into one to one and you've heard me say many times one to one is only as good as the program that is behind it it's only as good as it has a pedagogical approach which is what we're working on but we are going to phase in a one-to-one program over the next two years and by september of 2022 every student will have a chromebook we'll have teacher difficult teacher professional development in place and we're going to add some staff to help with additional instructional
technology coaches 8 through 12. we need to also take it support across the hall with all these more a little more uh chromebooks out there being used we're going to need more help inside to deal with the hardware piece of this so we've seen huge success since we've had stevie prep here as our instructional technology coach and we which is a huge accessory of success with ike at the high school as a instructional technology coach so we think we need a couple of more of those in place to really help our teachers get to where they need to be in using this technology facilities by september 2021 we'll have facilities plan a place to address all our hvac needs including the installation of their conditioning in our schools now we're going to ask our architects
and engineers they're going to come to the board in august of 2021 2021 and present to the board what they think that would look like how much would it cost what would it entail what would the time be would we have to take schools offline and i think there's a lot of misunderstanding about air conditioning and you know just stick it in the wall in the school of this of the schools of our age so we are going to get a real estimate from um from ksq and before we can discuss how we could possibly do that or who make decisions evaluation community evaluation community community input obviously we want to be able to hear back from where we are we want to check out along the time a long period of time on media
check and see where we are we've made big commitments here we need to we need to measure those commitments we need to make adjustments so we're going to create provide regular updates to the board and to our community of our private source goals and look for input from them we're going to conduct an annual climate and cultural survey for our parents students and staff and help us a little bit over the next several years make sure we are hitting the mark or if we're not we're going to enhance our communications department and community corridor position will be filled we're also using boci to add in a graphic design position a web design and a videography position you're welcome karen and i thought it was important that we communicated to both the board and to our
community that we are we're setting a schedule this community input is happening we're going to start in september the 14th on report for the board on the 18th we'll have a welcome back event the stadium we'll live in concession but we'll also it will also be a welcome back event for you know and students the community members will be invited and then as the december march may june we'll have regular principals for meeting community communities we know how it is in the evenings we know it's difficult to work with saturday mornings or a good time so if we get to december and people say to us no saturday mornings aren't a good time doing this we'll make a change but i thought we left over to look at saturdays right now it seemed to be
um i think it would be a time when people come together we'll create a situation where they can bring their children and we'll take care of that while they could really come and talk to us lastly remote learning for fall 2021 we still don't know if we're going to be required by the state to provide remote learning but if we do have to provide remote learning we are going to do it most likely ourselves we know that boces has a good program set up we like what they saw with boces their capacity for handling the number of students is a little below what we think we may be looking at if we are required to do remote so if we have remote we're going to have dedicated remote teachers we will not be having live
stream teaching from our teachers in these classrooms we have dedicated counselors with social workers to these political learners and we'll make sure that food service officers will be made available to them as they are now we will subscribe to the boces monroe program and students can take a look at it it's a little different than what we're doing it really requires maybe a year-long commitment from someone it's very good it's um it's really to me it's a it's a remote p-tech program really well put together if it's the right student it might be the right thing to do but we are going to work with posts to make sure we have some seats there for some of our students and that concludes that presentation which is about the community meetings so first of all i
just want to say this is it's a robust plan it's an ambitious plan i really appreciate the energy and the softness that we come into it and i i really appreciate the community input and that he clearly took that series and really thought about it and so i am like 100 behind like getting us to the goals so i really appreciate that um you talked a lot about community feedback and community meetings which i think is critical um and i love the idea of having them regularly and at different times but i'm wondering if we shouldn't also have some that are targeted for specific populations so like you know the el cll population students disabilities that because i think these are different in different communities it may be important to have something special and specific
yeah and i also have been working to have specific groups have their own meetings as well so i've set up a a monthly meeting with a regular meeting i'm not where i do it monthly taking private monthly with citizens actions education so we're starting that next next week actually so i think there are also community groups that we should have and you know you've been part of one of those smaller groups that we've had in the past so those kind of groups are important to be great to kind um you know generate shots and continue the communication that's i think that'll be important um i really agree this has been ambitious and i'm wondering about um just really maybe some clarification you talked about for reaching these goals about reading and math and free reading
graduation um there's programs and there's curriculum and there's personnel and there seems to be quite a few um are they this is i see this as flooding our buildings with support now when we need it and looking and seeing if you know what do we need to continue that level of support over the long term of the long haul can we get better at work you know one of the issues i i think about a lot is that is the rti process and our teachers having to deliver all the tiers of rti instead of having that reading specialist in their classroom to help them get that rti but during these four years we're also building the capacity of our of our teachers we may not need quite as much intense support as an individual but
i'll go back to what i say you know our foundation funding is coming up as this money is coming down so there's a hundred times it'll never be but we're gonna have to make some decisions around as that foundation funding comes up what it's gonna stay and what and what is not but i think we've also tried to mix in a lot of community-based partners who are outside resources so we have to be able to use grants maybe in the future we can use grants with but at the end of the day they're not really recurring expense i actually want to comment on that not just the efficiency but the community strength of that sort of approach of really partnering with our community who really are supporting their population yeah we're really excited about the
positive attention with denver oh independence potential disaster um as well so this the expanding that aster program was really something we're talking about but we really haven't had the means so now it's been it's the nice thing to expect i um plan broadly comprehensive and yet contain extremely specific programs with measurable rubrics to achieve the goals i am sure the entire of what will be together to support your efforts and also i would like to volunteer to attend the community meetings and the citizen action meetings thank you thank you very much this is sir you know i had to say something um i love the um all of what you are doing in terms of the pieces of the plan really aspiring to what we want to get to i hope that one of the
things i heard that i really appreciate is the constant evaluation because i think when you're changing the culture which it seems like you are you're changing so much of the culture that i think it's really important that we evaluate all these programs especially the new partnerships to make sure we're achieving what you intended and so i think that that's one of my concerns that that would that be flexible as you would say nimble enough to accommodate what we really need one of the things that occurred to me as you were talking is there a possibility of expanding a language offering so that more kids can graduate with that language to include asl have you ever found that but we'll write it down we'll talk about what that means and i i also want to put
a plug into reconsidering whether or not we can move that entry date for five-year-olds the first day of school because i think if you want to reach that 100 goal that i think we have to have kids who are ready i think kobet has done that for us and that'll be a great data but i think the um the evaluation process is taking this and mr verge dr feldstein's bundle i would spend a couple hours this morning talking about you know this is merging with our visa plan right this is version of our district comprehensive improvement plan so we want to take this and use that model and that process as we go through you know as we go through the implementation of this plan so we're working to mold these things together so we're
going to use the language and the process of the dcip program that we've been using for six years seven years six or seven years but with these with these you know targets and these initiatives in mind so building in that regular you know regular evaluation regular opportunity for change regular opportunity to look at the data a little different thesis isn't necessarily quite as broadly shared with the community but that's we're going to change that and then the whole idea of the father's exchange gives you a tool to get that feedback and evaluation like right away so i think it's wonderful and we are also serious working well we have this powerpoint here we're working on um some little little different ways to communicate this plan as well and again showing people different um creating visual
and visually different ways to help people walk through this for a plan so we can see exactly what does it mean you are doing this for third grade what's it gonna look like for my third grader what is it you know what does it look like math for my third grader what's it gonna look like when we use how would that gives um 9th to 12th grade what is credit recovery so creating something a little more um not this not power points a little more interactive so a lot of faq a lot of people out there saying what is yeah what is it what is this what is but one last question dr jacobo was his wish for a later start time if you have wraparound services in all of your elementary schools that might
negate the concern we have of getting little kids home after their older siblings because they would have the option of after school care and kids have a lot of energy young kids want to be in school right away so it's the perfect perfect scene and then they could go in earlier and then you would pick your busting if you could that's right thank you okay um i think that this is a really bold program and it excites me and it goes beyond uh identifying deficits and really strives to take every student forward to where we want them to be and what we want them to be able to accomplish and i just think that's terribly exciting and i hope that in three or four years we've accomplished it and i congratulate you and your team
for uh coming up with this plan i mean it's really uh as i said it's very bold as i say i think it's either but we didn't want to look at this as just closing the gaps that were created by by pam dammit we're going to look at it is how how we let's let's get this sprinkle let's hit the springboard and really um kind of call out what we want to see happen after then we want to see up across the district you use this money as this earlier if we do not move the needle that we do not if we look the same in four years or don't look drastically different than we are right now we have missed a huge opportunity and probably the last opportunity we'll get like this so we
need to make these things happen um i just really again have some clarifications and things at the end of your presentation you um you were talking about remote options for learning that this coming school year so is our district only offering that if it's required by the state or is that going to be an option that even if the state does not require it for it or is that given we have to we have to kind of make that decision we haven't really made that decision yet at this point i've been presenting it as we will do it if we are required by the state i believe that the bosu's program is going to run whether or not it is required by the state so we may see we may go to that option instead
if it's not required um that will also depend on numbers so we have really made that decision thanks and then um with respect to the air conditioning i know that that came up a lot during that community feedback and maybe the timing of the survey um but um yeah but so um but it was still just a little unclear to me whether we were like the degree to which we are able to tackle that problem are we just assessing it right now with these thoughts well no we're going to we're assessing it with these funds and we're going to decide when we use these funds to tackle it so we've kind of left some money off to the side there's no way we're going to tackle this with just it would cost more than we
have that's that i guess that's very much so so it's if you're really going to ask the architect to say okay what does it what is what does this look like what's in the question i've asked them to be creative there are some creative solutions out there around this problem and we can decide how much of this we want to offset so maybe we can get three buildings done quickly using using our funding and then we have to go into our our capital reserve and put another project together because the thing the other thing i've said this before i'm sorry this is boring um it's not just air conditioning for those schools there is air conditioning it's a completely new electrical system and we have to run you know from the street to the building
a completely new electrical system we can't handle that kind of that kind of power so you know we're having a struggle you know handling the power that we have to use now now that we're in a 21st century environment with computers and such so it would be it would be that every time we punch a hole in the in a wall in any of these buildings we're coming up with environmental issues so we have abatement that we'd have to do we have testing that we have to do so it's a big ticket item that our people are looking at and saying okay do we want to allocate some of these funds for some of it and do we want to or do we want to go forward with this period um there's on top of
money is a time thing i use one of the people that i spoke to in the group said well you did it at mahar which is not evident right now all the systems is pulling out a little bit of muted ventilators it's doing all those kind of things putting in new ductwork so what's it going to cost in time can we really do a school building in a summer and completely you know put an air conditioning system in um so those are all things in the army just have to tell us that we need to make a decision you know as the board how to move forward there are some places where it could be an easy fix some of the places where we have brand new ventilators that we exchange there we could use
a split system because we have the air exchange there but but the split systems don't do an air exchange they don't meet our you know they don't need their requirements but we could do something in those like that in some of those schools some schools are close to ready for us to do this others are very far from ready so we'll we're going to find out what it really looks like it's one of the reasons we've kind of as far as the finances kind of talk some of it over here for right now just for decision making i have the same ac question um but just to follow up on one of the other following questions about the remote societies option how do parents know that that's an option for them to be enough participation
from us but then to actually run it and start um start recruiting faculty so i have a meeting tomorrow with with chuck court with dr corey and we'll be discussing the one issue i did one thing about cozy summer remote program that that i when i said it's really for a student who wants to commit to a full year because of the way that their progress if someone came out of that program and was dropped back into kingston high school say they would not be where their classmates are but this is going to be for elementary kids too it's going to be k-12 but there really aren't off-ramps for this program you know how i was talking about those options for kids option will be limited uh because we're one of several districts in the
county so are we going to have a ceiling number of our students yeah we probably will be given a certain allegation you know proposes what we do with all of our other programs we can put this many in usually you know as many as we need this being new and kind of um you know this is really uncharted workers we may get two kids we make it two thousand you know who wants to remember we don't know we really have very little um and even in the spring when we looked at students coming back we had some we had some information and we did some work around it but we got to keep kids in high school for example we started in a week later we had 85 more kids who wanted to come to
school so this is a this is a really you know changing and unsure i just want to make a comment about the bosus program i'm pretty sure they're committed to doing it um and uh their plan is based on uh about 280 students uh and that's across the eighth component districts in ulster county uh but also there's cross contract uh possibilities with other bosses in the area so um you know that's approximately 20 per grade level 23 or 24 per grade level uh so that's what they're that's what they're working towards and to give you an example i believe district are we have 22 000 students in ulster county and i believe right now um well not right now no one's in the summer but at the end of the school year we had close
to 7 000 students in ulster county who were remote so that is you know in fact if that kept up next year in a remote situation that's it wouldn't be manageable for um to post this program so i don't believe it will be seven thousand out of 22 but it's we're going to work i mean it's one of those things we're not really we're not really too sure we know how we will do it if we have to um we gotta make a decision if we're gonna do it we don't have to because this is very expensive um to do it this way so that's gonna be you know further conversation but that's that's that's a million dollars worth of remote learning for next year just in that simple slide that i think that yes
um i am really excited about the department of executive diversity and i think that's a really important addition and um thinking about how to increase diversity among our staff and also really pleased to hear that we'll be doing a curriculum audit with outside expertise i think this big jobs i think it's not something that we can have the time or even expertise to ourselves so i'm really excited to hear about that um and now kind of a kind of question though so um you talked about additional staff social workers reading specialist math specialists at the middle school level and i'm wondering if you can talk a little bit about how we use the vision that they'll be allocated and how that will work um and also kind of we've been talking a lot about the
reading ball right the reading block for middle school the reading block middle school is a great idea it's a great idea if you stack it with reading specialists so now we there will be reading specialists in those reading blocks and i know all you know we have a philosophy that all of our teachers are reading teachers at some level but they're not the reading specialists we know we've seen the data we've seen where our where our scores have languished over the last nine years k through k through 8 when we look at our star when we're looking at our stars and that's part of the reasons for those for those kind of straightforward goals we're going to do this because we haven't done that so taking that reading block which again great idea but let's
let's staff it with reading specialists so those students were in there they were reading specialists and you know the teacher giving them helping them identify the exact needs of those students during that during that time period every single day for them to get that that intensive support that they need same thing in the math obviously has a math block alternative or new reading specialist will be in our middle school and two new math specialists holdings and so will they do each station that's one of the schools so they'll travel or you know we're going to decide how to allocate them but they'll be the goal is reading specialists that's really i mean that's we've created an opportunity in the schedule let's use that opportunity to the fullest extent and the fullest extent is reading specialists
in those spaces in those times thank you very much safety plan and i have our director of safety prevention mr parker here if anyone has any questions i don't we're not going to read the whole thing right now mr parker's resource if you want to ask first and foremost i want to say congratulations to general verge um i've been here 15 years 10 years as a security officer and i used to watch me come to join washington school all the time at various schools listening is as important if not more important than talking so when i saw how powerful that was and i just want to let you know that you would definitely do things so thank you very much i appreciate that good job so uh the infamous district-wide safety plan um i believe
i sent it out to everybody hopefully they had a chance to review it i'm here to take any questions um just as a short reminder about what it actually is um and although i've been here five years i've already just now truly understood the document itself and really what it does and what it implements for all school districts across new york and it essentially is really the manifesto for the district-wide safety committee and everything it ties everything together for the entire district so i didn't realize that initially it really went through and had to update some of the annexes and so forth but now knowing that i'm looking forward to the district-wide safety committee meetings and really look using this as our guide throughout the entire year um so just real quick uh the districtwide
safety plan again is a broad a very broader concept of our general safety it's our policies and procedures and a general note obviously you can put it on our website for all to see versus our building level response plans which are very strategic and detailed and gives information about personnel very specific personnel even some of their personal data and how they are to respond in emergency situations um just again as a reminder um some of the amendments that came down um some were from the audit that took place in safety audits some were just new york state and coveted and so forth um i had to add well one thing that was new york state was the identity and the superintendent to identify the chief emergency officer that's something we have to look at all
the stuff in red is what we need to focus on um the continuation of operations plan which was an outcome of covid so it gives us a overview and give new york um an overview of what we will do if there's another shutdown how we're going to implement our staff and how we're going to fund those staff at that staff and so forth um a monitor job description was one was something that just wasn't in the original document that i had come across and the sro contract is something we're going to have to add later on down the line once we finalize that so we're not quite sure when that didn't take place but that's something we're gonna have to add to it we're at the point now um where we need to uh put
this thing out to the public for 30 days and have a hearing it never really specifies and would work it just says have a hearing and put it up for 30 days i'm not quite sure what the best order is i'm feeling that once we put it out to the public so they have a chance to comment then we have a hearing once we get comments from the public um and that date would be the 25th or i know you wanted the fifth you would be spoiled but i'm sorry so the public comment period is going to start tomorrow or friday correct we'll go for 30 days the public hearing i think will be at the interval between executive session and public sessions at the august 4th meeting and then we'll have the board will
have time to adopt it at the august 20 25th meeting um so that'll be that'll be the schedule then and so we'll have it adopted the board will adopt it by september 1st which i think it needs to be done by that date correct so that'll be the schedule very good any questions for me pertaining to the playing comments concerns yes sir thank you for i'm watching if there can be a section on narcan because we have narcan on each of our schools but there's no there's nothing in here about the policy and procedures for how that's to be used that's correct yes we can add that for those who don't know we have narcan packs attached to all of our aed machines in all our schools and it is controlled by the usually the
nurse of that school they come in and they change out i want to say they only have about maybe a three or four month span where they have to be changed out again for a new one but yes so only the nurses they want to be trained doesn't mean narcan yes i mean there's been trainings i've had monitors trained in narcan but um per our medical staff they and i believe that may be something that that we have to follow the district i'm not 100 sure of a medical staff advice does that they are to to be the ultimates to administer um obviously anybody that is trained is protected by good samaritan but in the district the the medical staff prefers we allow them to we respond we call them they come up and they
register it has been the recommendation of our of dr woodley as well as our lead nurses that we keep it as our nurses to be the people who do the administration of the narcan our school resource officers are also trained to get into a ministry market any other questions comments concerns mr spicer all right oh that thank you thank you thank you okay the next question of our agenda so this is a reorganization meeting at the first meeting of every year we have a slew of reorganization resolutions that we have to adopt and re-adopt every year and so the first uh consent agenda uh is uh has to do with the reorganization resolutions uh are there any uh reorganization resolutions that a board member would like to have pulled from the consent agenda or the
reward consent agenda okay hearing none i'll ask another time uh any resolutions to pull okay can i have a motion to adopt the real consent agenda leader percentage industry and then it's the adapter um then we go on to section 12 of the agenda which is the regular consent agenda which we have at every meeting uh are there any resolutions from the regular consent agenda that a foreign consideration any resolution control okay can i have a motion to adopt a consensus move mr spicer and a second mr any questions no questions all in favor of the consent agenda please stay on [Music] let me make a quick comment sure so in with us here tonight we have our new uh middle school assistant principal salvatore rosa he's here mr rosa comes to us from dutchess
he's been working there for about 19 years right and we're excited to have him on board and looking forward to being part of the pcc school district team so welcome mr rosa thank you very much very good yes we did okay or at least one right no there's no donations there's just the subject for donations so you're believed that i'm just meeting doctor calling okay we have board of education some reports from the teaching and learning committee okay thank you um i'm going to read from this because actually there was a full meeting we had a lot to do um the teaching learning committee met on june 3rd um and it was at that meeting that we reviewed the school comprehensive education plans full confidence and education plans are part of the new york state
education department school improvement process schools that are designated as a need of improvement for certain populations must create improvement plans for the following year there are two levels of designation there's a comprehensive support and improvement designation and a targeted support and improvement destination comprehensive schools are schools that must focus on all students and targeted schools are schools that must focus on a certain population that needs particular support this year new york state education department improvement focus is on social and emotional learning specifically student well-being equity and engagement and within that training there's a focus on high expectations and rigorous instruction inclusive curriculum and assessment ongoing professional learning and support and welcoming and affirming environments so this is a little bit of a different orientation that we've had from the sed in past years so here
in kingston we have three targeted support schools four targeted sports schools crosby chambers gw and family and two comprehensive support schools jfk and miller so at those schools school-based teams came together to determine what their commitments would be for the coming year and to align them with strategies and practices and then to combine them to create their school comprehensive education plan so i will just kind of go quickly through what those benefits so for the element at the elementary level the commitments were mostly around improving learning outcomes strengthening instructional delivery creating welcoming and affirming learning environments and creating inclusive learning environments and some strategies to meet these commitments focused on literacy um specifically using writing workshop multi-sensory instruction and words their way a focus on professional development and support for staff so including care observations
learning loss differentiation study groups that focus on equity anti-racism and trauma-informed classrooms and training and restorative justice and focus on social and emotional learning specifically with the stanford harmony program morning meetings strengthening restorative justice processes attendance initiatives at the middle school commitments were around learning communities that examine issues of social justice and cultural diversity welcoming and affirming environments inclusive curriculum high expectations and rigorous instruction and ongoing professional learning and support and the strategies including the inclusion of student voices and decision making opportunities for greater parent involvement greater integration of integration of social and emotional learning and social justice into the curriculum a whole full focus on restorative justice and assertive justice training professional development of differentiation enhanced orientation and transition programs for fifth graders and participatory budgeting so we had a whole meeting where we
went through all these plans and the principals presented the plans to us and then the board of education members had an opportunity to read through them on their own and then provide feedback to me which i then provided to mr verge at a later date so at this stage mr virg the plans are still in process is that correct and they will come to the board at our next meeting will we get a chance to see them before they're approved or they go to stay there yeah been part of um currently the state has relaxed with some degrees of timeline or deadline force position so we think the state does want to write for the identified schools that we mentioned by the end of july but that doesn't mean we can't continue to still make
revisions and look at them they do need to be ready for communication by the first year right that makes sense i forgot to mention that all of ours we use this process that aren't just an important planning process for us and so all of our schools create school conference and education plans but the ones that come to the tml team are the ones that also are required by the state um okay thank you for that that's helpful um and our next meeting will be july 29th any questions thank you but i'll consult with everybody whether the time comes but let's plan for infrastructure next report is from the sro committee mr spicer good evening everyone the boards sro subcommittee met last wednesday to finalize our recommendations which are being reviewed by the full board now
the full board will take a vote i would guess at the next board meeting to allow the superintendent to include these recommendations in his contractual negotiations with our law enforcement agencies following the adoption of the final sro contracts by the board the committee will be making a public report on all the changes to the program four for our 11 meetings from october to last week two public forums seven or eight line-by-line contractual reviews participation in the kingston re-envisioning public safety hearings i want to take this opportunity to thank mr desicco mrs deperna mrs dwyer dr jacobowitz mrs knox mr parker dr paulino mrs siri miss sheer mr sheer and mr shaughnessy for all your time and talent and dedication to this work since gratitude to all special thanks to valerie dwyer and ashley knox our
two community representatives your input in this proc your input was invaluable to our progress and that's my home report and i would like to thank you mr spicer for chairing the committee and uh you did an outstanding job my honor okay any questions from mr spicer dr collins yeah um i commend this mini for putting in so much time and effort i know across the entire year so thank you for that um i'm impressed too upon reading all the proposed changes to the contract how much thought has been put into each one of those changes um what is not completely clear having watched the community meetings and um and that's a real assessment is to what degree the option of not having a contract was on the table during these meetings and is it possible
to end well it was on the table in the beginning of the meeting uh in the beginning of the process and the committee decided that it would be best if we worked on details of the contract so that we could address some of the concerns of the community in the contract rather than completely eliminating the program which probably would have created more problems than it solved really and and not really addressing the problems that the community saw with the program so that's why we chose to go the way we did um and in i wonder if there are any plans going forward to consider for certain populations like students very directly or teachers or ktf or any you know targeted populations in terms of getting well we did have uh public forums and we also
did have um opportunities and we did get um emails and comments straight from offline and some of them were students and also at our public forum we had one parent that read about three three letters from from students so i i would imagine any opportunity that any student or parent or teacher anybody in our community had to respond with why if they wanted to yeah be interested to see if we could consider other ways to hear those voices and it's hard to imagine that all the voices were being turned because i appreciate all the efforts that have been made um for certain it's true and all these voices are vital it's also vital that everybody feels like this particular opinions and concerns about the program are respected the key thing for schoolboy to do in
any school board committed to do is give everybody an opportunity to speak so so that we know how to go forward and a good deal of the decisions that were made and a lot of these meetings it looks the final product looks like it was it was smooth and um kind of generally accepted consensus but there were there was there was contention and discussions about which way to go and a lot of uh the information on which way to go came in with people mentioning what people said at public forums what their concerns were and and how to how to move forward the program that um would address the concerns of opposing ends of our community so every everything you're saying is is right and you have to really work hard to reach out to
everybody to find out what they to find out how they feel about this program there'll be some um after the contract there'll be a final presentation that is exactly right that's the final presentation he made after the board adopts the contracts explaining to the community how the program was changed in order to meet some of the concerns of all of the community members thank you for being a message it's easy to lead a committee with everybody so dedicated to the final product so that's my way of saying thank you to the community again i know we have a policy committee report coming up but i will say that we do not have a policy on school resource officers and i think we need to incorporate a lot of the information that we've gotten from from
the sro advisory committee and create a policy and perhaps regulations in addition to the contracts with the police departments well we can bring this there should be a reasoning why we have the sros and you know not just in the contracts i think there should be something stated in our policy manual i mean that would be my recommendation it doesn't have to be adopted to see if there's some okay as long as he's done in time to take over [Music] okay any other questions on the sro committee okay the next slide next is the audit and finance committee uh mr michael thank you mr sean uh the auditor finance committee met last june 22nd and thankfully that was the last virtual meeting i'm very happy to be here tonight seeing everybody and so uh said
before the audio the finance committee every year he chooses an area of operations to have it hold today for our eternal auditor which is the foreign process services so have you support that investigator i will say our safety and security area and to the fact that they party came back somehow critical i would like to commend dr padolino and the administration and mr parker that they wasted no time to correct and improve the conditions of the operations and it was you ross and mr parker he come he covered some of my council was going to make so you all know the community has 30 days to look at the uh the improvement plan and uh we'll be going to approve your support on our august 23rd meeting accepted the choices in claims early reports and
the fund reports for the month of may of 2021 and we have two resolutions for approval it's boe 2 and voe 3 and i make the motion to accept those resolutions as well is you guys are getting tired this year and we are leaning towards you know look at again a special edge if the committee you know decides next month to watch the internal order to take a second look again without the special ed a few years back well i think it's the right time again to take a second look so all right so sure the next meeting will be july 27th okay and that's at nine o'clock in the morning in person right here oh she oh she hasn't done the policy report yet so the next week so any any other questions from
mr so the next the next word report is from the policy committee mrs jordan yes we um are not having a meeting in july but what we have on our agenda today is to pass the three policies that were for first meeting last time and so today we have them on the agenda to pass them into our policy and i am just going to read it whereas the kingston city school district has contracted with missa as consultants to the board of education for the review amendment and adoption of its policy manual and whereas the subcommittee of the board in consultation with mr and legal counsel with various violence policies for amendment or adoption now they are very excuse me now therefore be it resolved but the board of education adopt the following amendment policies zero
one zero zero non-discrimination and equal opportunity 4765 online distance and remote learning 5320 student harassment and bullying prevention and intervention any discussion okay all in favor please say aye aye opposed nay the next meeting is the first friday in august which i think is the sixth sixth mr president to get that out to us soon and we can perhaps have it back in before the august 4th meeting and she was taking some vacations from tomorrow mom half day it's one of those advertisements someone comes in with their luggage to find their email anyway another item of new business is um dr patelino has suggested uh we would like to have a board retreat uh on board relations between the superintendent and the board of education and responsibilities on each side and we only have so
it's another four weeks to our next board meeting and then we have a board meeting on august 4th and then three weeks to august uh 25th so there's lots of gaps in our meeting schedule in july and august and perhaps i'll send out a um an email and suggested times or get some feedback on when that could be done okay also i guess new businesses i'll be contacting they're sending out an email about committee assignments for everyone in the next day or two um and then uh board members so next any other i don't have any other new business other than that so the next item would be board member announcements there any board member announcements doctors pelvis um two board member announcements one was that i attended the eighth grade graduation at bailey it
was beautiful it was wonderful it was um it was a drive-through but it was so well done and so well organized and it was just a really lovely that i think i even liked it better than the traditional one for me i just thought it was great they did a really wonderful job and it was really fun um and then i also said it was high school graduation but um i just want to thank the team for putting it together i know um there's a lot of work in the last minute to grab it all into one but it was so well done and it was the perfect weather and it was a perfect day um it was just it was beautiful and lovely and i just loved that in their last moment i mean
they're all supposed to get up and be all organized walking around like they've said no time well i would like to make a repeat a comment that i made at graduation and this is really for the public um i just want to stress that the pandemic is not over um and i just read today that dr patrick said that the delta variant is now the predominant variant in the united states and it is extremely transmissible i read a report from australia that they have video evidence that the two people who contact trace their only contact was i don't know which one had at first but their only contract was walking past each other in a mall and it was transmitted in those three three seconds so we still have to be very vigilant and let's
not let's not think that it's over it's it's still a a a danger to us and keep that in mind and vaccination is a the vaccines are are protective against it at least for serious illness and hospitalization um so as i said we need to be vigilant and uh no other announcement so entertain a motion for agreement he looks like he's been old enough to be a bosses for 19 years are you kidding me wow
