one reluctant retirement this evening uh mrs hanson if you may read and bob if you could please stand retirement resolution bob lover gene whereas mr robert lover jean head custodian in the lindbrook union free school district has announced his attention to retire effective january 28 2022 after 22 years of dedicated service to the students parents and staff of the lindbergh schools and whereas initially hired as a part-time cleaner at the high school in bob demonstrated that he was a most able individual who fulfilled his responsibilities completely earning himself a full-time position at the high school later that year and whereas as his outstanding performance continued to impress over the course of his tenure bob has served as interim head custodian assistant head custodian as well as head custodian serving the students staff and families of

north middle west end elementary and the high school where bob has served as head custodian since 2012 and whereas as bob's positive nature sense of humor and ability to connect made him a person that everyone enjoyed having as part of their team his can do his can-do attitude and willingness to roll up his sleeves to get the job done helped make him a leader who talked the talk and walked the walk both day and night and whereas as bob's active participation in an array of school activities teacher talent shows school musicals field days volleyball tournaments and more consistently demonstrated his love for the students staff and community and whereas as the person everyone turned to if they needed a quick favor help bringing items into the building or in getting the temperature of their room

higher or lower depending on the season bob always extended himself because it was his way of showing you that you mattered and whereas as bob's role as a leader earned him the respect of the custodial teams wherever he worked as well as the respect of all the staff bob has been known as a man of integrity and honesty he is a role model for all and whereas the board of education thanks mr lover gene for all he has given the lindbergh public schools and wishes him a happy and healthy retirement filled with time traveling to florida especially disney with his bride teresa his daughter rita and their husband and her husband john his son bobby and his wife chelsea with chase tail wagging happily in tow all while rooting for the mets and the jets

and enjoying a cracker barrel breakfast now therefore be it resolved that the board of education hereby accepts the resignation of mr robert lovergene for the purposes of retirement before it's official it's not official yet bob no but i i will say i've had the occasion to be in this building of all hours of the day and at all times and the truth is your constant positivity you literally are one of those people who just radiate happiness and positivity and just seeing you when when people see you makes a difference in their life and that's something i'll always appreciate i have a motion to accept resolution 21-11 21-11-nc-10 for the retirement bob leveraging mr yaker second ms flesky all in favor [Music] that's all in favor if you could come up please [Applause] [Music] you need

a picture foreign [Applause] okay we're not we're not letting go of him yet i probably know you're the longest up here because i have followed you from west end north and west end up to the high school and when uh bob came into my office and i reluctantly accepted that letter of resignation we had a nice chat and i was able to share with him something that i haven't been able to really share with anyone um that in all my years there has never been another person who no one can say a bad thing about absolutely that there's no one who has ever said well you know he's great but he doesn't do this no no one can say that about bob lovajin everything that was said tonight is 100 true you exude what we

all expect of ourselves of our students you have been nothing but a premier role model for everyone in this district and even if you look in the back there are former custodians who were here out of respect for him he has truly made a mark on everyone in this district and i am so grateful that in addition to recognizing his retirement and this is something i usually do at the end of the year but i wasn't going to make him come back i do a hugo the distance and bob has truly gone the distance for the children of limburg high school specifically he should have retired last year he was so eligible to retire a few years ago but he knew this bond was taking place and he knew how much work was going to

go into this and how much more taxing would be on a brand new head custodian who didn't know the building and he made sure he saw this project to its completion and that's why he's leaving us mid-year because by mid-year it will be completed so bob on behalf of all of us we thank you immensely we could not have done it without you um everyone is eternally grateful so we do hope you come back and visit um because some of us are coming not too far behind you so so you'll come back and and thank you you deserve this and more [Applause] for all those at home who are listening and apparently can't see us um there may be some technical issues but the presentation is being recorded so you will have the opportunity to

listen it at some future time moving on with the agenda moving on to excellence in education there is a resolution we will be adopting later this evening from the excellence in education foundation but they are here tonight to present their grant and i believe cali would like to take the microphone um i'm adam callahan i'm outgoing president in the excellence and education foundation and we have a prepared statement um i'm here on behalf of the excellence in education foundation for limb brook schools for anyone who isn't familiar with who we are or who may have forgotten about us we are an independent 501 c 3 non-profit organization that raises money for the enhancement of the public schools in the limbruck school district we obtain private funding to support education initiatives that elevate and enhance the

quality of instruction and expand learning opportunities for all our children while we took a brief pause during the quarantine period and through last year in an effort to respect the uncertainty of the education climate as well as the hard financial hits many of us grappled with we are ready to start back up and that means we need volunteers to be part of the great work we are doing and of course we are accepting donations of any size our giving tuesday campaign will be launched soon and we hope that this year will be the biggest so far as i mentioned we paused our work when covet hit we had just begun evaluating the grant applications we received many of which were no longer appropriate in the new remote and hybrid world therefore we were forced to

postpone all awards last year but we thank all the members of our school community who applied for grants and appreciate that you put your trust in us that the awards we choose to fund will have a great impact on our linbrook children now since the schools are reopened and we have been given the green light by the district we are pleased to officially award the following grants we'd like to award shari bose a samsung flip chart 2 for the 5th grade at waverley park no need for paper anchor charts anymore and files can be carried over year to year it is mobile and a great tool for visual learners we would also like to give mr barry weiner a macbook air with apple care for the linbrook high school chorus they can now integrate technology

seamlessly while improving instruction and allowing mr weiner to update outdated software and making sure it's covered by apple care for years to come miss corrine teichmann and miss megan sigley will receive new ozobots for our elementary flight school enrichment program incorporating ozobots into flight school for grades three to five district-wide will that allow them to experience screen free coding by utilizing color-coded markers that teach basic coding concepts like cause effect and debugging lastly mister john cornicello will be receiving the youth leadership initiatives e-congress grant which is an interactive educational tool that helps our students learn how congress works by writing original legislation and following it through the law making process congratulations to all the teachers who have been awarded grants this year and to the students who will be the ultimate recipients of the benefits

of these resources in other good news and despite the limits of covid last year we continued our discussions with some of our high school students about creating a junior foundation mia tattleton titleman led the charge and with a bunch of her friends formed a new club at the high school called the student council of excellence in just a few months with principal raynes's backing and mr brian jakov as club advisor they are thriving and have more than 180 members this student club is hard at work and has already organized two events including this month's student volleyball tournament they have raised close to two thousand dollars for the foundation we applaud that we applaud their efforts and hard work we encourage everyone to visit our website at www.limbrookef.org to donate volunteer and apply for grants new

grant applications will be considered in march so please apply thank you guys thank you mr gallon we appreciate callie all the work that's done on behalf of dude we appreciate the effort you all put into that so thank you for that just going to go real quickly at a lot of order right now for a few donations that we have we are going to acknowledge and accept the donation of top soil and compost to the 911 garden from the wavelength park pta greatly acknowledging accept the donation of two telescoping sideline end zone camera systems from the limb rook mom and dad's club and also the board would like to thank the polinsky family and i acknowledge that order and elliot are here tonight for the generous donations of four baseballs the brothers ike and gabe

went through the limber public schools as the best sibling bass players we have seen the boys experience and music program inspired their love of music love of the bass and drive and determination to be the best musicians they can be both young men are now thriving as bass players so we appreciate that have the boys been back to see the the extension erin well not only could they come back maybe they can make contact with the music department and kind of express their views of the path and and how they got to where they are now and the impact limerick had on them i think that might be somewhat inspiring for some of our younger music players so hopefully that that can take place but thank you again for that moving on to report from

trustees um mr yaker mr felesky you want to uh present did you prepare powerpoint mr yecker okay thank you uh we'll do this uh the facilities committee met twice in the last two weeks myself mr pulewski mr nino dr lynch and jim savia with the head of facilities and we had to meet because the the turf field that we voted on last year that we that was approved by that district the price went up so we had budgeted and voted on 1.6 million it was already at 1.9 million and then in discussing it we thought that it might be a good idea to maybe actually look at the scope of the whole thing to begin with and doing some extra improvements in the around north including the north courtyard a room a room at north

which would help the project be aidable by state um as well as putting up lights at north and bleachers small three-row bleachers that would go from 20 online to 20 yard line kind of expanding the scope a little bit fixing the parking lot beautifying the area a little bit more so when we met we said that that might be an option that we can look at we also have to because we're going up on 10 years on the turf at marion street uh that's the job that we have to do now that job um we're going to put up to vote this year that's a 900 000 job that's that i mean it does change from year to year but that's generally the price of it that has to go up to our vote this

year we do have the conduits for lights there as well so we you know the phil silly's committee thought it'd be a good idea to add the lights into that project as well hoping that we can beautify that area and make it a little bit more usable to to all of our teams um get not getting thrown off the fields not being moved off the field because of bad weather and have the lights there to to extend uh you know when we can play there was also something in in the that we've been talking about for a few years now about kind of restructuring marion street as it is right now the playground is literally on on the main street on 9th street kids literally have to walk around the parking lot in order to

get there it's not the safest most conducive environment to for the kids and mr sadia had drawn up plans about two years ago to make the parking lot more of an oval yep i mean we'll we can show you some of the plans at some point but anyway the job itself is is fairly extensive and we thought since we're since we're at it and we have the money in reserves we would look at that as well um and do some renovations inside and especially in the cafeteria at barron street which really could use it and that would make that job aidable as well um so in all with the money that was already approved and you know doing all this work we were going to put up a proposition in if it was if everybody

wanted to we were hoping to put up a proposition in may to do both of these monster jobs i really think that would be great for the district and we would take it out of the capital reserves currently we have seven million dollars in capital reserves this would be for those two jobs somewhere in the ballpark of 3.9 million which would still leave us with 3.1 million in our capital reserves that the community can then vote on us like they've said the 3.1 million on capitol hill which is a very healthy amount and we have the ability to go back up 2 million every year after that but please understand by doing the small classroom at north and the these small uh renault to the cafeteria manual 44 on every dollar is aimable so we

expect to get of that 3.9 million approximately 1.71.8 million back over the course of time so that's important to know because it really when you extrapolate that over an extended period of time you realize it's not that much to spend you know based on the amount of work we're doing you know and it's not just about the lights marion street and the way it's set up could be done in a much safer more efficient manner in terms of travel the way jim cedar has worked out the new plan you would actually be able to drive in to the parking lot in a circle so that little cage where certain people park and we're actually adding parking spots at in that location for events and for teachers during the day so it's really something that will

not just affect the athletics it'll affect the entire flow of that facility all the time you know and north getting a courtyard done is something that is great for the kids some you know something that these kids will have a place to go during the day and like i said due to the fact that so much of it is you know eligible to stay aid it really behooves us not to do this especially considering that if the aim alone the eight alone that we would get back really is equal to the amount of increase we're gonna have over the original 1.65 million that was already approved for the the north shore so it's it's definitely something that you know as long as we do our field space is an issue in this area you know

it's something that most of the surrounding differences already stories and for us not to have it at this point you know it really is not you know what our topic beings is had to stop or being cut short because of buckling issues and whatnot because they had to stop games before they were over because it got dogged out so we wouldn't run into those issues and we would be able and just one more thing just so we're all on the same page having something for these kids to do in the evening hours is really important and it really cuts down silly behavior you know when they're in a place that's supervised and in a place that they can be watched over you know a lot of the issues we're having in town in the evening

hours should you know alleviate and just to reiterate one more time all this money we already have it's in reserves this will not cost taxpayers a dollar it's all money that's already sitting there waiting to be used for something like this so just keep that in mind thank you we'll have to remember to continue to resonate that last part as we get closer on the process dr lynch if we want to move forward with this um obviously this will become one of the propositions at election time and when could we see mock-ups of what it might look like would you want to see them as early as next month well i wouldn't want january january it would ever be a reasonable time so the the plan is we need to present them to the community

at the budget hearing so that is the absolute requirement it's would you want to see them before that in order to i guess the board would like to see before and just in case there was anything that was um a subjective modification that the board might ask questions about or alter then you would have time to make those changes if anything insightful came up prior to the full presence so what i'm thinking is uh the december meeting is december 1st so that's only two weeks from now so maybe the january year right i don't want to stress with that and so uh any question for any board members well i do appreciate the work of our fellow board members and putting this whole thing together you know it's a conversation that's taken place for a

very long time you know the ability to have those lights and as mrs denino talked about this you know just in the last few weeks our soccer programs our football programs games had to be cut short just because of the issues in getting onto the field and getting off the field now we've discussed in years past all the different opportunities we have now with academics where you can stagger playing times you can give equal opportunities to both the boy sports and the girls sports you can go home and do your homework and have your dinner and then come out and have practice later so nothing is written in stone but it does create all kinds of opportunities for us to look at different things that we can be doing so um so dr lytch we

have the mock-ups the numbers are there it would be at the budget time that we would finalize what the numbers would be for the presentation all right uh dr lynch just one more thing uh i when we met in the facility committee we did you know quickly talk about the possibility of west end seeing renovations in the upcoming year correct yeah so so uh to to look at the playground situation if we look at equity and playground situation the waverly park playground was just replaced uh through a government strand uh maybe two years so marion street has the oldest playground equipment right now we are aware that there is a broken playground at west end right now but that is still newer equipment uh we do have a legislative grant where the surfacing of the

west end playground will be redone when that money is freed and at that point we would probably look at if there's any equipment that needs to be replaced also so that would mean that we would have looked at all three elementary playgrounds in a in a in a reasonable amount of time and just to tie up a previous conversation since the facilities committee met and discussed these projects did you also um discuss the 10 union avenue property yes so at this at this point it was the recommendation of the facilities committee obviously we could have the conversation but it was the recommended recommendation of the facilities committee to kind of put that aside right now and not pursue it um it just didn't seem like something that we you know that we wanted to get

into right now i'm hoping that maybe it's still for sale next year or at a later time but at this point the committee recommends that that we move forward with what we have and not with what we don't thank you so as consensus from the board that's two recommendations from facilities been very busy bees over the last several months so is any objection to the first aspect to have administration work up and moving us towards mr murray no objection at all but i just actually want to thank them for the creativity by by adding those those extra pieces to the project and making it bigger it actually winds up costing the district less and i think that was a very creative job of the committee so thank them for that so i i believe the

consensus then is both that we will no longer be pursuing dr bjork that building across the street for the time being and we will look to move forward to gather the appropriate paperwork and diagrams and company documents for it will eventually be a proposition on the two suggestions made by them thank you now while i'm at it i guess like we haven't heard enough from mr yankee moving on to policy uh policy committees we're doing our first reading policy 1230 public participation at board meetings uh first reading on policy 1500 e-1 the use of district fields and facilities where we really just updated some of the insurance language and our first reading which was a new policy policy zero 105 uh diversity equity and inclusion in education that's a new policy we worked pretty hard

on that as well um and then we're doing a second reading and the adoption of the attendance policy policy 5100. thank you mr iger those will be adopted in the december meeting um anything else from the trustees um i just want to say one of the things we accepted tonight was um some cameras from the moms and dads club and i just wanted to mention the moms and dads club because quite often parents don't know what the moms and dads club is i know when my children first started middle school and high school i wasn't really sure but the moms and dads club is a club that really gives back to our schools so these cameras will be used by all the sports teams and um they go up on mr yeager and mr pulesky

probably speak to it more but they sp uh take films so the moms and dads club supports all of the athletes in the entire district so if you're not a member of that and you are a parent with students of athletes it's really a great club to join they do give scholarships and you get to see more of the club when you have a senior but they do support all of the students throughout the year so it's a great thing to be a part of belly i would just say i think he's gone already but i wanted to uh thank mr cunns for night of the pumpkins i think he might have been uh anybody who was here for night of the pumpkins it was back and it was back and forth i forgot how

much money they raised but it was somewhere in the four or five thousand dollar range um they did a phenomenal job it was set up in the gym um because this field wasn't ready yet they really did an awesome job the pumpkins were amazing mr cunn's did an amazing job and then also with the moms and dads club the the friday night game was i mean if that wasn't enough motivation to try to get lights around here i mean the place was electric a ton of people out i mean it was just a just an awesome atmosphere so you know i was at that game as well and so we want to have more of that stuff thank you mr acre uh moving along there is no old business or new business this evening so

superintendent's report dr burak thank you every november we hold a superintendent's conference day which is a day full of professional development workshops for our staff we utilized our own staff to share their expertise and train other staff in the district and the whole day is actually put together by the limerick teachers association teachers center um and it's a phenomenal day and they they it started with the beginning part was just community building and getting to know each other it's actually the first time we have all been together since pre-covered uh in the gymnasium so it was a great way to start the day and then some of the workshops that were held throughout the day was using mindfulness in the elementary classroom growing a steam mindset schoology gradebook and organization ever-changing students ever-growing teachers how

can we reach more of our students interactive practice with strategies for teaching ells in the standalone and integrated classrooms introduction of the new social studies framework book love controversial issues it was really a great day um the teachers did enjoy and were able to take away some practical things that they could use in their classrooms so i just want to publicly thank the teacher center and all of the instructors who provided the professional development workshops it was a great day the next item is an update on the american rescue plan grant and i'm going to turn it over to dr balekas thank you dr barack as we spoke about at the end of last school year the district was awarded several new grants by the federal and state governments at the moment we're actually revising

our arp esser funding plans because the state is actually now requiring a separate application for a portion of the funding that basically equates to about seven hundred thousand dollars so we're going to continue to reach out to various stakeholders for input throughout the process if you're interested in viewing the plans as they unfold and or wish to contribute your suggestions please feel free to visit our website we have a state and federal funding plans page which is under the district finance and budget tab so please feel free there's a actually a web address there and you can send us an email if you have any commentary thank you and you might as well do the curriculum update please all right i'm gonna be like mr yaker now two in a row as you know uh

we've also been implementing some really new and exciting programs in the kindergarten center i'm happy to report that our students and staff have been working hard on our letter formation and letter sound correspondences using our new program called itchy's alphabet currently our students have studied 18 out of the 26 lowercase letters so the kids really moving along very accomplished also too our entire kindergarten staff has completed an intense six-week training in the sounds right program and now everyone they are all official sounds right practitioners i really have to congratulate them all on a job well done that was a very intensive training and it took a lot of effort on their part so i'm very proud of them all the actual implementation of the sanitary program began in earnest this week and the students are

beginning to manipulate words containing the letters s a t i and m what they're doing they're doing blending which is putting sounds together to build words segmenting which is pulling apart the individual sounds and words and phony manipulation which is inserting sounds into and deleting sounds out of words which is a very high level skill so i'm very impressed by all the work and everybody in the kindergarten center kudos to them thank you okay capital projects obviously the big project continues to be the high school so we're in better shape punch list than we were last month but it's still it's when the contractors come they just don't leave so we're still uh continuing uh that list it is getting shorter and again we thank everyone for their for their patience the real work uh

the big work is happening in the auditorium right now and we hope to have that completed uh in time for for for spring performances actually uh marion street as i mentioned last month there were delays due to a secondary oil tank that was present on the property uh however so that has put the project back back a little bit however weather permitting as long as the weather continues to be nice we uh continue to hope for a february completion of that uh of that elevator project uh at the the kc uh the boiler is nearing completion and we actually have heat which we actually needed this week so those are the continuing projects we have the new projects that are in the pipeline now so the next major project coming up will be the library

renovation here at the high school we've had design meetings with mr mcdermott mr rainis mrs bertolini uh and have discussed that in some details and hopefully that will be able to be put up to the state shortly uh hopefully to get work done uh by next summer and then uh mr belmont are you ready for the for the update on waverly park so the waverly park tennis court uh project is underway uh we are going to be submitting those plans to the state shortly uh there will be three tennis courts so that will enable our teams to actually practice and play there so we can actually be kind of self-contained so that's a really good improvement and then rumor has it we might be looking at pickleball lines on those tennis courts at the time

i hope so doctor if we end up having a pickleball team we'll have to redo this whole process again to come up with regulations we're not under any circumstances naming that pickleball court after you bill i think and again i thank the facilities committee it's a very hard-working committee i have to say uh and they they did some really good evaluation of the waverly park project because that was another one that could have come in over budget but i think we did some really careful thinking to get it so that we can actually get to work and get that uh in place by this summer so thank you that's actually that's that is our next big project that's the those are some projects correct i have a question about the marion street project um the

the oil tank that the that was just an empty that that tank was empty so there was no actually two tanks there was the 1986 tank which we knew about and then a 1960 tank which again i like to say our predecessors lindbrook has always been good it was properly remediated back in the 80s so there was no great need for like soil removal and soil testing there was testing but nothing was contaminated so they did they did it right back then okay great yeah and i just want to thank the facilities committee as well because there was a lot to contemplate this time around and i just want to make it perfectly clear to the community when we went out last year with those numbers um there were numbers prior to all of this

the slowness and and if you're trying to do work at home you know how much more expensive things are now because uh we're in this covid pandemic so so it was really unforeseeable just how sky high these prices are going to be and if you take a look at inflation so i think it's just important that at the time when we put these up they were true uh projected values but now because of what we're facing that that's why the costs have gone up so i just wanted to make that perfectly clear before going out and asking the community for more money so that's it thank you dr burek at this time we're going to move to public comment i'm going to ask that we allow representatives from the liberal fire department and that we

have some students present probably want to get back to study if you could present first good evening everybody dr bjork bullet thank you guys for uh letting us uh come here tonight and speak to you uh my name is danny ambrosia i'm the second assistant chief for liberal fire department um the lumber fire department we are uh about a 250 member 100 volunteer fire department myself and i have a bunch of people that join me tonight we're all most of us are all graduates of limbrick high school born and raised here um we've had a committee that's worked on a little proposal for the board and uh they worked hard for the last couple of months and at this time i'd like to turn the mic over to ex-captain mike gunning to present your proposal

thank you chief ambrosio and thank you board for uh allowing us the opportunity to come before you and uh and make this presentation uh so i do have a powerpoint i hope that that's uh that's good for you what we want to talk about tonight is new york state real property tax law 466 c3 that was passed by the state of new york and involves real property that's owned by an enrolled member of a corporate incorporated volunteer fire department or an ambulance service which can be exempt from taxation up to 10 percent to the extent of 10 percent of the assessed value provided the local taxing jurisdiction has adopted a local law ordinance or resolution to that effect the property needs to be the primary resident of the applicant the applicant must be certified by

the fire department and cannot apply for that exemption until they have five years of service in the department every year after that they need to reapply to the taxing authority for that exemption every year that the fire department recertifies the activity and and the fact that the the member is an active member in good standing when the individual reaches 20 years of service that will flip to a a lifetime exemption from the member as long as they maintain the property as their primary residence obviously if it's sold title changes the exemption goes away the application and the certification is made on a very standard new york state forum it's available on the on the website and again we certify every year the activity of the member who is asking for that exemption on the second

page actually page three on the numbers the surrounding school districts which have already adopted 466 c3 include district 12 which covers malvern and lakeview fire departments rockville center district 21 all three districts in valley stream 13 24 and 30. district 14 covering the ulit and woodmere fire departments west hempstead district 27 oceanside 11 baldwin 10 and freeport 9. the lumber fire department if you just flip to the next page uh has been a a long-standing uh contributor to the to the community um in the chart up at the top uh over the last four years or really three and a half three and three quarter years we've answered fire calls ems calls uh auto accidents elevator emergencies in 2018 2182 following year 2300 2020 all through cobid 1975 and year to date we've answered 1568

calls of various natures for help and assistance average that out and every day 365 days a year without a break six five to six times a day our pagers go off and people in the limburg fire department turn out to help members of our community we do this on a completely voluntary basis and again we operated all through the pandemic with the additional risk of responding to calls especially medical calls transporting people and then bringing the risk of exposure back to our families but it's what we do we also maintain our junior fire department and some of them are here and as we've indicated their students of the district the junior fire department has approximately 50 members in it we uh train them they meet every month and it's all part of hoping that they

will as they progress join the fire department and continue the the degree of service that we that we provide the department has currently 248 active members and aside from our emergency call activity we support activities in the district such as fire prevention week homecoming games ambulance standbys at all football games uh the home football games and obviously responding to emergency calls at all the school facilities in the village we also provide we support you know some activities in the village like santa rides and we fire truck rides for uh the public other holiday events and we raise money for activities such as the wounded warrior foundation again all on a volunteer basis and and i don't you know make that point to try to make extra points here with that board it's what we do

because it's fun and it's all part of the limber community and what makes this village and this school district the place where we want to be to raise our families and uh and and own our homes and contribute to to the great place that lumbrick is the next page you know explains why this matters to us uh with all of the support that we provide to remain an active member requires and a countless number of training hours and and certification protocols as you can imagine on the ems side to provide medical care again a number of different certifications are required training hours you don't just show up and jump on a fire truck and go out and and uh do anything without a significant amount of training both when you join and then on an

ongoing basis to remain uh certified to do the jobs that we do it's an extensive time commitment and we are finding that over time as people are pressed obviously for time have full-time jobs many homes with both parents working it's harder and harder for us to continue to attract people to do this job and provide this service many other members of the department are from multi-generational families children growing up in the houses now and then looking to establish their own families can't always stay in town or afford to stay in town um and and again we're seeing this on a more repetitive basis lately that it's it's just tougher and tougher to to keep our membership up and the ranks up to the point where we can sustain the the call volumes that we do

um as as we've said members you know current and former uh members were members of students in the lumber school district junior fire department members uh predominantly from the limburg school district and um we you know we're we're in the position now where it it's a really important point for us in retention and and uh attracting new members to be able to provide a benefit that 466 c3 would provide even though you know ultimately it's it's modest but it's very important to us next page is what what would this require as i said we've got 248 active members in the department roster on our our research we've done this ourselves so it's our homework our numbers we believe there are 50 members who own property in the school district who'd be eligible for a 10

percent reduction in their prop and their school taxes the current school tax liability for those members we calculate is four hundred and forty six thousand eight hundred and fifty four dollars plus ten percent would amount to forty four thousand six eighty five we found an additional nineteen members of surrounding departments primarily east rockaway fire department members who live in the in the limburg school district to be eligible for that relief as well and remember east rockaway actually covers the marion street school so it they're doing the same things and and with the same uh diligence and same issues that we have that liability would be 173 000 and the impact uh would be ultimately 17 350 dollars for the additional 19 people we've identified so in total 69 properties eligible for an exemption would would

amount to a tax exemption of 62 036 and on our numbers based on the latest school district budget would amount to 0.067 of of the budget so even less than 0.1 percent just call it 0.1 again these are all our numbers of our diligence um happy to have you know the subject of verification and all and uh and and again we would uh go through the process of having members formally make the applications do the certifications and and and all of that so that's our that's our estimate of what the impact would be so finally just to wrap this up again we care very much about this community about about the the things that we do in this in this village in this community and and want to keep that going uh adoption of this

uh law would be very consistent as we've said with what other school districts around us have done with other departments that we that we work with and and we'd ask again that uh you move as soon as possible to consider adopting uh 466 c3 for fire department members in the limbrick school district thank you very much for providing us this opportunity to come before you and happy to entertain any questions sure first of all thank you for coming before us and thank you for a very comprehensive uh document with numbers which obviously you know dr lynch if we can just gather some of our numbers too it would appear from what you're presenting that the only districts around that have not are limerick and east rockaway that's correct and has easter aquarium petitioned their school

anywhere i i can't answer that that's the that's the better answer we're heading there in acts but we're the first pin the so under the stat sheet it's a ten percent reduction just from the school tax on the assessed value the um and so currently the 50 members do you have any sense over the next five years how many more members would fall into that category we really don't we can we can try to take a look at that um you know it it varies just from my own company we've had uh three members who would have been in that that position who unfortunately just bought houses outside of town gone to wanto or or other communities um so so it's a little tough to predict even even amongst the eligible pump population those with

more than five years in where where that would land but we could we could make an attack no no i'm asking one more this is a pretty comprehensive document if you could just identify yourself and come to the mic it's all recorded into live ex-captain kathy bean for the limerick fire department we came here in 2003 we were denied but at that time it was 48 members so the the number really doesn't fluctuate too much you know we have a lot of people that have left the liberal fraud apartment and went to valley stream or rockford center because they got the discount because whether you're in lindbergh or not they or they honored it so just something to to be a member of the lindbergh fire department you have to live within the combines of

villager now within the fourth battalion there's like a two mile radius so it can extend outside could so it's possible to extend outside of our school district and our village for someone who could be a member you would have to live in that district to get the discount right no i just know to be a member of the limerick fire department you just you made me think about that when you brought that up we have people that live in east rockaway melbourne yeah right within the london and and i think as as to get to your point about the math of 248 versus where are we a number of us live in the melbourne school right live and pay attention to the malvern school district but we're in the village of liberal that's how the

number you know gets really ratchets down dr lynch if we were to consider something like this it would would be a public hearing could it be it's required would it be a separate hearing or would it be part of a regular board meeting you would have to break out into a hearing in the middle we'd have our board meeting break out like we've done in the past have that consideration and make a vote and then how long after we voted on it if we voted i believe they could adopt that night all right um well i think at the very least we'd like to at least put that on and at least gather information at least you know have a consideration of what's been presented to us and if we can get the district to

work up some numbers and verifications for it that would be helpful so border right with that for uh booming okay so so we'll schedule a hearing for that as part of whatever my boss says at whatever time during that meeting she wants to break us out for that hearing we'll schedule it for that's terry moran she pretty much tells me what to do so for our next board meeting on it would be december 1st december 1st december 1st we'll have a hearing to consider the uh the request thank you very much all for your time and your attention thank you for the presentation if anyone else would like to address the board please come to microphone identify yourself and whether you live in or out of district okay moving along we have three sympathy resolutions
