ready. All right. Good evening everyone and welcome to another installment of the Manhasset Board of Education. Tonight, uh we have a hopefully a quick agenda and we'll we'll get through the business. I will say now um the board plans to accept and vote on a motion to go into an executive session after this public session uh for matters regarding uh personnel. So um you know we will we will have that uh motion at the end. But I'll call this meeting to order and we'll start with the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. So, the first order of business is our u personnel schedule. So,
I think we've had time to review that. Are there any questions, concerns, comments from the trustees? Anything else we should know that's noteworthy? No. So, can I have a motion to uh accept the personnel schedule? Second. All right. All in favor? That's 300 with our our quorum. If I could just jump in one second, President Poston. And we have just then therefore uh hired our our newest assistant supervisor for transportation who's actually with us tonight, Jesse Sure. Jesse, thank you for coming on board. Appreciate it. >> Yes. And welcome from myself and on behalf of the board. We're excited to have you and uh look forward to you know you helping and participating on the team. All right. Great. All right. Item number two is resolution to approve MESPA side letter reick leave contribution fund.
I'll just read this quickly. Uh, be it hereby resolved upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, Board of Education of Manhassid Unifree School District, approves the terms of the side letter dated November 21st uh between the district and MESPA establishing a voluntary stick sick leave contribution fund for a particular unit member, which I think is um the right thing and a and a great thing to do. So, I'm I'm sort of happy to support that. Anything uh anything else we need to comment here? No. Okay. So, can I have a motion? All right. Second. And all in favor? All right. That's 300. And thank you very much for that. So, uh All right. So, now we'll just quickly go to the consent agenda, which is uh relatively light here, but let's just walk through
it briefly. Uh we have a stipulation agreement which is here. Uh we have expenditure of repair reserve funds. Do you want to make a quick comment on that? Uh Gerard. >> Yeah. Go ahead Jerard >> or or or Chris. >> We we we came You'll back me up Gerard if I needed and we came prepared and we brought in the big guns. >> Yeah. Yeah. Jenny's here. Okay. Great. Jenny's here also. But uh Jenny just briefly and you'll tell me if I'm wrong just for ease of this. We've came across a external gas leak rectified that in rectifying that came across an internal essentially uh concern that this is going to repair right now. That's that's the focus of this. Right. Okay. Anything else we we need to add? I mean it's an emergency, right?
something that needs to be done right away and that's why we're going this route because typically there might be a public hearing of some kind or >> correct um in order for us to be able to get gas to our science labs for curriculum. This is something that needs to be repaired. >> Perfect. Right. >> Yeah, makes sense. Right. >> We need burners running to run the experiments period. So, uh that's great and this is why you have reserve funds for moments such as these. So, um, so that makes sense. Um, and then we have our bid award for the Blackbox Theater. This is phase three and four and this is something that uh, Maria helped champion and research and I think it's uh, we got to a very good spot. So, I don't know
Maria if you want to make any comment here or you >> or or Allison. Yes. All right. There's a few questions. Right. just have a few questions. Um I think it's amazing we're at this point now to start another wonderful project um in the secondary school. Um I just have a couple of of logistics I guess technical questions. Um the first two is sort of when will the work start and what's the timeline to complete? Um knowing that that kind of work will disrupt you know the classes and the the groups that use that space. The first question. >> So I'll just jump in on the classes. they're going to use alternative spaces such as the auditorium instead of [clears throat] uh blackbox. So that we have rectified that that's not an issue as far
as when it's going to start, how long will the process be, when do we expect to get the you know get it back for for our kids. Go ahead, Jen. >> So um work pending obviously approval. Uh actual construction work is going to start the week of the 15th of December. So that's after hours. All work will be after hours. um space obviously, corridors, everything will be back to normal for school the next day. Uh completion date in the contract is um May 1st. So that's that's the >> Yeah, that's that's eager, right? >> It is [laughter] certainly um but I think that um getting a jump start over this coming break to do the asbestous removal will certainly help. That's a, you know, a couple weeks or a week and a half obviously process.
So, it's important for us to be able to do that. >> There's no no reason to prolong this or wait, right? I know we're in the afterlow of the incredible auditorium, but but uh everyone's ready, willing, and able. We just essentially continued our Wednesday meetings that we had had for the auditorium, now rolling right into black box. So uh half the team was here already doing some of that work but there are new folks on board uh which are a positive I think for us as well. We met those yesterday and I know you've have experience with some of the groups and Sal has great experience with some of the groups so we were made sure that uh that was going to work for us as well. >> That's wonderful. There's high expectations because the
auditorium came out so nice. >> Um a couple of final small questions. the backstage areas and the green room and those spaces, are those going to be renovated as well? >> Yes. Okay. >> The uh changing rooms, there's a couple of small bathrooms back there. >> Um as well as the green room and there's a storage space. So, that's all >> part of the renovation. >> And then the last question, I know there was two different options for the asbestous remediation. Is there one versus the other you guys support or advocate? >> The recommendation is for both. Okay. So that's the ceiling in the main space that's asbestous contained. There's also some flooring in the storage room and as well as some pipe wrap on some of the plumbing fixtures. So um I think the
recommendation in JAG's um recommendation is to do all the asbestous. >> Yeah, ideally let's get guess rid of it while we're in there. Thank you. >> Yes, definitely. >> Thank you guys so much. >> All right, great. Anything else? All right, so that's exciting on the blackbox. theater. And then lastly, we have our OSC audit report. So, this is going to direct the district clerk to file a certified copy of this resolution and the district's corrective action plan, which we are required to file with uh the New York State Controller and and the Department of Education, the Commissioner of Education. I asked Gerard to just give us a brief reminder because this is all the way back to the summer when I first arrived. We were working through this and the the um office of
the comproller had done an extensive review and audit. So draw just you know the 30 secondond version please. >> 30 secondond version is that the comproller came in and they did a test of non-payroll dispersements. They completed their report in September. The a non-payroll dispersement is anything other than payroll. So um equipment supplies and contractual services. The test was from July 1st, 2023 to December 31st, 2024. They reviewed 15 wire transactions totaling $2.4 million and determined that all wires were properly reviewed and approved. They reviewed 137 invoices totaling $380,000 and determined that 10 of those invoices in um had uh confirming purchase orders. A confirming purchase order is when you order something before you actually have the purchase order. So, um, we've been doing training and we've we've implemented, um, this process to let people
know that, hey, you did a bad thing by doing a confir confirming purchase order. I send out the letters to let people know you're not supposed to do that. So, the um, comproller had two recommendations. We um, we had addressed in the cap those recommendations and that's what's you you have in front of you. Was that 30 seconds >> acceptable? Um, yeah. No, I I was, you know, I the spirit of these audits, I mean, obviously we I I felt like the findings were fairly benign on on the whole, but in the spirit of trying to improve ourselves, we can take some of what we saw and learned in the audit report and and make those improvements. and thank you very much for your diligence and all the work we're doing to improve all of
our financial and back office systems because it is uh imperative that we have that running smoothly. So, thank you again, Gerard. Um, so with that, I think we have a motion to to adjurnn and and we'll make a motion a simultaneous motion if I can to uh adjourn into the executive de uh session that I pointed out. Oh, we got to we got to approve this consent agenda first, right? So, let's do that. Sorry. Stay on track. All right. So, motion to approve the consent agenda. Any discussion any further? All right. All in favor? It's 300. Thank you. And now, uh motion to adjourn into uh exec session. That's 300. Thank you everyone and have a wonderful
