lessons grant. So that's one opportunity. The second is on May 13th. Um I put up here from 9 to 2:00 p.m. and that's at Wayne Fingerlakes Boseies. The morning is a Wayne County partnership meeting. Um and then in the afternoon they're doing a world cafe style model in order to get input from the community and to gather information. So, if you're interested in attending um either of those, just let me know and I'll pass along more details to you. Um and then the last update is just that we will be participating in a youth development training in August. Uh it's a train the trainer model. So, we'll be sending one to two people to get trained on youth development um I guess uh priorities and then those people will come back and we'll train our
staff on conference days and professional development sessions around youth development priorities or principles I guess you would say. >> So, is that the same cafeteria we have met in before? >> Yes. Yep. Same one. All right. Just a quick update today. >> I thought it was going to go longer. >> You're uh so first thing on my agenda is the financial report. Just a couple things I wanted to mention. The revenues are sorry the revenues are the same as they were last month. Um there are some changes in the expenditures. The big one in the general support, uh, there was a change of about $40,000. That's because we moved the long-term sub for our intern over to the Bosey's line. So, that kicked in. We also had some rate adjustments for out of district placements
that also took effect. So, that had that increase there. Overall, there's only a $5,000 increase in the expenditures because with those, we also we reshuffleled from other places and we started closing out some of the POS for end of year stuff. So, it only comes out to be a $5,000 increase. >> Anyone have any questions on the financial report? >> We have a motion to approve it. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Someone already beat to it. Okay. All in favor? object. >> Motion passes. >> Uh the neop sorry >> go ahead. >> The next thing I wanted to bring up is just some update on facilities. Uh we have some work that's going to be taking place. Uh one of the things is our track needs to be cleaned and powerwashed. It's been five
years since we put four years since we put it in. So we just have to do some upkeep and maintenance on that. There's also some minor damage that needs to be repaired so that we continue to have it for as long as we're supposed to. Um The other thing is is that we're having some parking lot work done for resealing and restriping and we'll do both of those things over the summer when they're not in use. >> Makes sense. >> Uh the capital project update. Uh currently we're looking at getting some roofing samples to see the condition of our roof and how much needs to be replaced and how much we can just kind of resurface for some of it. Um, we have to do some septic testing to make sure that that's still up
to code or if we have to include that upgrades into the capital project. And um, there's going to be some work after the elementary ends where we're going to have to dig some holes out so that we can look at the membrane that's in front of the elementary school because we're having some water seepage down in to that area. So, we're doing some exploration to see exactly what's going on there. >> Continue exploration. >> Yes. ever ending saga of the elementary school water. >> Um along with the capital project coming up, we got a contract for SEI, which is our architecture firm, um to for the work that they're going to be doing. Uh the cost is about 6% of the project. Um I sent out an email to the lister just to see what
everybody else is paying. The ones that are showing up for the last couple years are coming in right around seven. We're actually a little bit under where the average is for the area. >> All right, that we need to approve. So, we have a motion to approve, please. >> Thank you. I'll second. Thank you. All in favor? >> Opposed? Abstained. Motion passes. >> And then the last Last thing I have is we just got this week um SEI ran a bid for the survey work so that we can start moving forward planning of the project with specifics. Uh we got three bids. Um CTM came in at the lowest bid. They were about $6,000 less than all of the rest of them. Uh we put we added that to this board agenda so that we
could get the POS cut so we can start that work and start moving ahead so we can get to SED in a timely fashion. >> Okay. Any questions? We have a motion to approve. Thank you. Second. >> Second. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I this time. Motion passes. >> That's all I have. >> Fantastic. We have a smaller list of speaking this evening. Yes, Mrs. Miller is at a professional development around literacy and as we mentioned, Mr. Dean is with the eighth graders in Gettysburg. Well, I guess probably they're in Washington DC by now. >> Okay, so I can start. Um, for special education, we're continuing with annual reviews for special ed students. There's about 45 this month. Um, we currently have one high school student who is in the process of being
referred to the committee on special ed. He was referred by his family and he'll have uh his CSU meeting next week. And then there's one elementary school student who's in the process right now and she that student was referred by the school for special ed services. Um, outside of those things, one of the things that I'm working on with Mrs. is that next year we will be required to do um a state survey. There are 13 questions that families are asked around their feelings with special education. Do they feel like they are involved that they have information that teachers ask them for their input that they understand special ed processes? And we will need about 50 families to answer the survey. It's required of every school district to complete the survey every number of years.
And so we're working to have the survey in place when families come into the school to answer electronically. You know, we have about 125 um families that are eligible to answer it and we've done it before in the past. We really need to ask every single one in order to reach 50 to answer it. So, we're planning for that right now. And then to talk about BKC's, you know, we're inching closer to 4,000. One of the things that I would tell you that's exciting for me to look at is um in the very end of April, one of our students who is an exceptionally amazing student, they could probably be the president of the United States one day, um was sending BKC's to staff and students at 10:30 on a Monday night that were just
so kind, so specific, so respectful. Um it's just amazing. I won't read them because they are very specific and wonderful and amazing, but um sometimes people my job is so lucky that I get to see these things, right? Sometimes I read them and it makes me cry because they're so wonderful that I they're just incredible. But just a student who at 10:30 at night is recognizing her peers and also her teachers for their impact on the school and on them. And so it just always continues to be a wonderful thing that we allow this to happen just to share, you know, how you impacted me and what you do here and how it's positive. So it's a great thing that we have here. >> So true. >> And it's really nice to be copied in
on them. Sometimes students will choose to copy us in and that is awesome. Um, so in the community schools world, um, we we've been getting a lot of attention in Wayne County, and I think Marian in particular is catching some attention because we recently had a visit from Dr. Michael Figureroa who works out in Kern County, California and is doing community schools work out in Cal California happened to be in Buffalo for a conference and specifically asked if he could come and visit Marian school district uh to see and talk to our community schools coordinators and see some of the work that they're doing because he's heard about it. Um they came out and visited us um a while ago, a team from Kern, but he wanted to come back and visit. And then Lisa
is the deputy director for the National Center for Community Schools. She was also at the same conference in Buffalo and asked if she could stop by on her way through as well um heading back to New York City. So, she stopped and stayed for probably half the day and like absolutely was blown away by some of the like things that were happening. She said it seemed felt like a place where kids really knew that they were cared about and um was really like um excited for the work that's happening. So that was a validating moment. But I think the credit goes to you know a lot of the staff in the counseling office and our administrators that are part of making sure that this is like a coordinated effort too. uh our boost program. I
was really I went to a conference last week in Albany uh related to boost and got to meet our project director in like 3D in person which was kind of cool. Um >> instead of on Zoom. >> Yes. which I feel like I've spent a lot of time with her on Zoom and it was very validating because they had a table there and were talking to other uh grant recipients and it just hearing some of the questions that other people were asking was validating in that our program is up and running and we know we're like doing it and other people are just getting their feet underneath them. And so that was like a proud moment to be like, "Oh yes, we're on the right track. We're doing it." Um Alen mentioned the Saturday wellness
event. Um I would just also shout out Miss Duffy for that day because she came and offered um it was like artistry in ASL. So the kids painted and then the the paintings I'm not going to be able to say this very clearly, but like whatever the gesture was for ASL, whatever the sign was, they painted it on themselves and it was like a really cool like mindful experience for them. and she was there for the whole time, all four hours just and the kids loved it. Everybody that went loved it. Um, our steady work group is kind of our workforce development track. They've been uh they did a se cemetery cleanup day in partnership with the town which was um our town supervisor helped arrange that which was cool. And just today they had
a lesson on budgeting from someone from Reliant Bank. So, learning how to save for the things that um they're hoping to save for. Our mentor tutoring is up and running. Dr. Lloyd mentioned as everyone was coming in that we're going to be offering some regions prep, which is nice. We also had some students that were trained to become peer tutors. Um so, they were trained by literacy volunteers and will be able to be peer tutors. that is kind of in a pilot phase right now, but we're hoping to at least get it rolled out and work out some kinks this year for implementation next year. And then our night quests are in process. Um some of them are wrapping up, some of them are right in the middle of things. Um and we're currently um
we surveyed students to find out what they might be interested in for summer and right now our staff are in the process of signing up to offer things. And so we're at our spring showcase. will be rolling out those signups um so parents can see them and students can sign up as well um at the elementary school. So our incoming UPK students are registering and um our team from Wayne County Community Schools has a get ready to grow component that um comes into our school district and does those screenings. are very comprehensive screenings and they do them for us without charge which is nice because it reduces the burden on our staff at an already busy time of year. So I do the coordination of that and so last week they came in and started
the screenings. Tomorrow we'll have some more screenings and then they'll come and debrief with our elementary team. Um we also at the high school we rolled out a postsecary survey. As you know, we're focusing on the four E um and thinking about the portrait of a graduate. And with those things kind of evolving, uh we want to get input from our students about what are we having conversations with them about their plans after school and how we can do a better job of that and really integrate it into the fabric of our school. So, we did a survey and a team from One Goal, which is a partner out in there from New York City, but they're partnering with Wayne County Community Schools, is going to come and kind of walk us through our data
analysis to help us make a plan for improvements based on that data. And then other things that I've been up to are just a lot of like countywide or consortium like grant consortium meetings. So, we have a few different grants that we're part of a consortium with like with Clyde, Red Creek, and Sodus. um or like we have like a a few other grants that we have different partnerships with. So I have meetings related to kind of the objectives related to those grants and making sure that we're meeting those objectives and moving forward with that work. So sometimes that helps us draw some resources into our school district, but it does sometimes feel like a lot of Zoom time. >> My turn. Um, so we are literally right smack dab in the middle of state
testing. Um, I had the opportunity to stop into some classes last week. Um, and teachers were uh, you know, preparing the kids for the test. I was really impressed by how mindful they were. Um, as I talked to the kids about, you know, this is about just trying your best, nothing to be stressed about, making sure that the kids felt like they were in a good place when they were taking them. Um, and that was happening in quite a few classes. It links well with our um our character trait for the month was courage in April. So, we talked about being courageous and trying your best. And um at the end of every month, we um had the teachers do like a nomination, like who do you nominate from your class that was exhibiting this
um character trait. And as I was just looking through, we just sent that out. As I was just looking through the nominations, a lot of it was about like standing up for themselves and others, standing up for a friend, asking for help. Um, it was honoring some of our new students and how difficult it is to start a new school, let alone start a new school once it's already halfway over. The school year's halfway over. Um, it was just really great because it was a lot of information about like kids just really stepping outside of their comfort zone. And if we think about the kids in the building, they're so young and as adults sometimes we have a hard time stepping outside of our comfort zone. So, I was just really pleased to read all
the different ways that the kids are like growing in that way and that we are honoring them for that too because that's really really hard. Um we moved into May. May is about taking accountability and ownership. So this is not just about the things that we do really great, but this is about the mistakes that we make as well and how do we grow from them. So we just started uh we just started the month with that. So there'll be some growing around that. Uh it's also staff appreciation week. So thank you to all of the staff that keeps our building running, the teachers, the support staff, the custodial staff, everyone because we couldn't do it without them. Um it was dressed like a teacher day today. So, we had lots of kids with glasses
on. Um, I had one parent tell me the story that their they their student wanted to dress like their teacher, Mrs. Loveless, and she wears glasses and she's like, "Mrs. Love, where did you get your glasses from?" Because apparently they had to go look for them. Um, she did find a pair of glasses at the house that like still had a prescription in them, so they she couldn't see. So, like she insisted that, you know, they poke out the the the lenses so that she could wear them to school today. So, they took it very seriously. Um, we had quite a few teachers, additional teachers in the building today. Um, I had the opportunity to go on the phone. >> Solves the sub problem. >> Oh, yeah. I didn't even think about that. >> Great.
We just need to get Do you guys approve? >> Out the door this morning. So, >> perfect. >> Um, I had the opportunity to go on the farm club field trip to Frankie Farms and learn about Christmas trees. Uh, that was really fun for me. I don't know much about Christmas trees other than they look pretty and smell nice in your house. So, um, learning about like how long it takes to grow them and the whole process and we got to see how they like hand dig and plant them in and then they had this nice little fun contraption that where they like sit on it and ride behind and put the the trees in the ground. It looked fun, but we didn't get to try try it out. The kids did ask. Um, they
said they can come back when they're older and get a job, but like not right now. Um, so that was fun. We're really spending the majority of time right now um planning for all of the field trips that happen at the end of the year and all of the end of year events. Also looking at next year. So I'm spending my time looking at the schedules and placements. The teacher and family input forms have already gone out. So we did put the family input form out on parent square. We have paper copies for anyone that would prefer to fill out a paper copy. And all of the teachers also receive input forms for their classes. So, we'll use all of that information to do our very best job in putting kids together in the right
configuration next year. And that is pretty much everything that's happening right now. At the junior senior high school, we completed both ELA and math state tests for seventh and eighth grade. Um, next week will be the science exam, which will take place on the 12th. Um, we completed our night's roundt lesson for sixth graders. We went to the elementary school and Mrs. Flint's classroom and several high schoolers went through a lesson with the sixth graders about using kind words and lifting each other up. It was a very cool hands-on activity where kids got to make paper plates um for each other and write kind words about one another and then all the kids got to go home with a paper plate with like words of affirmation for themselves that their peers wrote about them. Um
so that was like a really awesome experience to be a part of. We, as a many of you, if not all of you know, we hosted our decision day last Friday where we were able to celebrate our graduating seniors and really highlight and recognize their future endeavors after graduation um highlighting which of the four E that they're deciding to take um after graduation in May. It was a really special ceremony to be a part of um and to see all their hard work. um you know they they're a great group of kids and so to celebrate that was um a special thing to be a part of. Next week, May 13th, is our spring showcase and our academic awards night where we'll be recognizing students who've been working very hard in the classroom this year
um whether it's showing off the work that they're doing um or specific awards that they're receiving. I believe Mr. Dean is sending out um invitations tonight um or later this week about uh for those that are receiving awards. So, expect those. Um Mr. Dean and I and Miss O'Hare are also working on scheduling right now. We completed all meetings with 7th through 12th graders with help of the counseling office to do course recommendations and so we're starting to plug away at that for next year as well. technology department has been primarily supporting the the state testing to CBT which we did have a couple little hiccups which were luckily not us but it was all on the state site where they were hosting but we did get everybody in eventually and it it all has
gone really well. Um doing math again finishing up with elementary this week. Um from a from the department we've done 52 or closed 52 tickets since the last time we had a report. So about it once a month. So other than that, things are kind of progressing. Get starting to plan for summer, looking at summer projects, um maintenance work that we can do when students aren't here. Interesting to hear everyone's working behind the scenes. Okay. Consent agenda items. Does anyone have any questions? We got a motion to approve it. Second. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> All in favor? >> I opposed. Abstain. Motion passes. Well, there's no one in the >> zero comments. Thank you. And we actually don't have an executive session. So, could I please have a motion to adjurnn? >> I'll
move it. >> I'll second it. >> Yes. >> Okay. All in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes. >> Thank you for the joined us.
