Good evening. Thank you for attending tonight's board of education meeting. Uh let the record show that Mr. Marshall is not in attendance. Everyone else is. Uh from the board, Mr. Walker is also not in attendance. [clears throat] Please stand and join us in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag [clears throat] of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Are there any changes to the agenda or questions on the >> No. No changes. Oh, 2026. It's a mail. [laughter] >> Okay. Does anyone have any questions on the agenda? >> Right. Can I get a motion to approve the agenda, please? >> I'll move it. >> Thank you. Second. >> Thank you. All in favor?
I >> oppose. Abstain. Motion passes. Did anyone sign up for community comments on agenda items? >> We have one person. Okay. >> So, and we have McKenna Brain. >> Okay. You have three minutes. McKenna. >> I assume that. >> Is that just the FFA group? Someone [clears throat] told me to sign in. >> Oh, okay. >> So, this is the So, you were just signing as a guest. >> Yes. No. No. Community. >> Wonderful. I'm glad we answered that question for you so quickly. [laughter] >> I think McKenna should talk. >> [laughter] >> So, moving right along, we are on to tenure appointments. All right. So, we are very excited tonight to appoint Brook Syd to tenure. So, Mrs. Hair um will share a little bit about uh Mrs. Senard and tell us why she's
on your tenure tonight. >> Great. Um so Brooks Vineyard's been a dedicated teaching assistant at Marian Elementary providing consistent and meaningful support to our library program and the librarian. Um she's a bachelor of science and early education from Sunni Courtland. She brings a strong instructional foundation and a genuine passion for working with our young learners. She actively contributes to the vibrancy of our school community by organizing mini camps, creating engaging displays, maintaining an orderly and welcoming library space, and supporting the classrooms during teachers leaves. Um, she demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a deep commitment to student success. She continually seeks opportunities to plan events and experiences that engage students and families, making her an invaluable member of the MS. This year, she also provided um additional support in our UPK room um to make sure that
the students received uh study and meaningful assistance. And with all of that, I am happy to um uh recommend her for uh 10 appointment. >> I moved that. Can I have a second? >> Lots of them. [laughter] >> All in favor? >> I opposed. Abstain. Motion passes. We're going to have you come up and do something called running the gauntlet. >> We'd like to all shake your hands. [laughter] Okay. Thank you. >> Congratulations. So, >> thank you. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> We're lucky to have you. >> Congratulations. I don't feel you have to stay for the entire meeting. We would understand [laughter] that rains are coming. Okay. Next up, we have a presentation by the FFA. Correct. about as much mushrooms. >> Thank you so much. >> Well, while we're waiting. Hi, I'm
Emry Circin. I'm the president of Mar FFA. I'm McKenna Brain and I am the Sentinel of March. >> And I'm Dylan. I'm just a member. >> Mr. Um, if you guys want, you can start talking about >> So, in October, we went on a trip for a week. We missed a week of school and we went to Indianapolis to go to the National Ethic Convention and Expo. >> And on the way there, we stopped at many cool and adventurous places such as Jungle Gyms International Market, Lincoln Electric, and other places like that. They're all educational. [laughter] So to prepare for this trip, we did many things by emailing all of our teachers to make sure we could get all our missing work done that we weren't going to be there for. We sent them emails,
had documents made prior to that, and made sure we had everything ready, got all our paper signed, made sure all the passes our classes we were passing in and everything like that. Okay, so day one, we went to um the Wegman's organic farm and wits. So the Wegman's organic farm, they do a bunch of different things like all the organics that are at Wegman's they make there or most of them. And it was really fun. We got to learn a lot that I didn't know actually. And then we went to Fivewoods. So Fivewoods was an escape room. So we all had to use teamwork and communication to get through it. We did multiple different groups and there was all different kinds we could do. It was really fun. >> Did you escape? >> Yes. >>
Excellent. 30 minutes. [laughter] On the second day, we went to Lincoln Electric and uh Ford's pig farm. Lincoln Electric, we weren't allowed to take any [clears throat] pictures inside of because of privacy reasons. And that is their welding school, the second picture, and that's a picture of us at Lincoln. Then we went to Hords Hord's pig farm, which we weren't allowed to tour the pig farm completely. We [snorts] had but instead we did a experiment to show how fast disease spreads between pigs >> and we and we weren't allowed to go into the pig farm because the diseases can spread so quickly especially with it being winter time and it being colder outside that they spread quicker. So we got to see a video and they zoomed us in so we could see the facilities.
And the reason no pictures are allowed in uh Lincoln is because we got to actually see how they manufacture all of their parts, which is like a top secret process that they don't want competitors getting a hold of. And then on day three when we went to Jungle Gyms International Market, we got to tour around the massive building and try different samples from all around the world like meal worms, different um sushi and they had a bunch of stuff there to look at. It was very fun. And then later that day, we got to Indianapolis and did a little bit of shopping, walked around for a little bit. It was very fun. >> Yeah. Um, day one. >> Okay. >> Then on day four was before we went to the first day of convention, we
went to Tulip Tree Crearyy where we toured their facility, see how they made all their cheese in house and then got to try some of their cheese and we watched how they made their mozzarella and how they pulled it and prepared it. And then at convention when we did our session, we had a speaker um, Eric Jackson. Yeah. >> Yep. And his speech was very empowering. Basically, it was like teaching you how to be yourself and don't apologize for being yourself. >> You want to give a what's a session? >> So, a session is there's a couple a day or can be one a day. It just depends. So, we went to the first session. So, they do opening ceremonies. They do like how you guys do like your pledge of allegiance and do all
stuff like that. They do that there. They go through, they do a big, everyone dances, everyone gets up, have fun, they talk about different things. Then we have FFA and it's just a lot of fun. How many do you remember how many FFA members were there? >> There was over 74,000. >> Yeah. >> So that's the big national. >> Yeah, there was 12,000 New York members there or in New York that are in FB. >> We also got Oh, this me. So on day five was also day two convention. We got to walk around the whole expo center and the shopping mall. We got to get a bunch of different things. The the expo hall has a bunch of different colleges and they have a bunch of free stuff that everyone likes. They have cream
the >> Culver's ice cream crearyy. That was really good. >> And then we also went walked to Walgreens and we met T. Parker on the way. It was really fun. >> Who's T Parker? >> Oh, he's a national bull rider. >> Yeah. >> Um on the sixth day This is the last day of convention. We went to uh the rodeo, but before that we went we went to the convention center, walked around for the last day we had there. And then we went uh to the big before we went to the big meeting and we had to take a picture of all of New York, which is right there. And then we before that we got our picture in front of Mary uh FFA Expo Center. >> And then that's a picture from the bone
riding. >> And what do you do at the rodeo? >> Oh, I got to walk I'm one of the people that got to walk out a huge flag at the rodeo. >> That's cool. >> One thing that we do every year is in front of the FFA sign. We take one picture every day of the expo center. That's one of the pictures. And so these are just some pictures of that was us at jungle gyms the rodeo that was also done with rodeo with the flag. That was also the crearyy that was walking around Indie and that was also at the crearyy. And then on um the picture up there is from a Pen Yan member named Lizzy. She got number one in plant systems and got to walk across the national stage in front
of every FFA member that was there. And that was the they call it they do um when the national officers run out on the stage we do the tunnel so that they can run under us and then that was from >> when we were walking around the center and >> um >> yeah [snorts] that particular pictures yeah the >> women in it was women in a it's a bunch of influential women in agriculture there to support network with other women. >> Yeah. Um, and does anyone remember what what is the place where we did all the sessions here? What was it called? >> Lucas Oil Stadium where the Colts play. So if you look that is packed all the way up with FFA members. >> Yeah. >> In summary, we learned a bunch of different
things. We went to each of us had to go to two workshops each. So during our time at the convention center, we did two workshops. One was really gold entrepreneurship, US Army and back care, GMO, get to know get them more, you know, and a bunch of stuff like there's a bunch of different colleges. I think I met like 12 different colleges. I'm like, "Oh, I'd love to go there." So, it's really good opportunity for that. Um, we gained a bunch of different things. I learned a lot from just all the different places we went to see, from all the colleges we got to like talk to and everything. We engaged in like community service activities. We all did courtesy corpse, which we helped volunteer at the adventure center at the shopping mall. So, we
got that. um a lot of free stuff. Our suitcases were packed and we explored all the different competitions. You could go watch them and we supported all the other peers like Lizzie up there. We all went to go see what she got. >> Fantastic. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Any questions? >> How many Marian students went? >> Four. Excellent. Very cool. >> Every year we add one more. So next >> I love it. Right. I like to see it as slow increases. Right. >> [laughter] >> working out anything like Lizzy did that >> like are we hoping to >> go ahead go ahead spill we hoping to create oursel or >> yeah so I'm doing my prepared speech and also with that I'm also doing um an agrch project that goes with my
speech so I'm hoping to do that >> so what is an aggra science project >> so it's basically a question so you have one question you have to try to figure it out and you ask people their opinions on everything and then you like make a whole poster about how you found out the answer to the question and what about It's the same scientific format that uh colleges use. So for anyone who's a science major, it has like the abstract, the uh discussion, all of that. They do all that based on their own research. And what's your research about? >> Um the ethics of showing animals >> and she has a survey that she's looking for respondents. So maybe we can send that to you and you guys can give us your opinion to help
her with her research. >> We would love to help with that. Absolutely. Also should know that McKenna is one of our awesome SODS [clears throat] students that joins us by Agra. So she is actually a Sodas resident and a Sodus Central School District student, but she comes here all day long for Agra. >> Very cool. Welcome to participate in the FFA as well. [clears throat] >> Awesome. >> We're thrilled to have her. Stay here until you're done. That's okay. Sure. >> Board of Education reports and discussion. It's not on here. Did you want to talk about the NISPA meeting at all? >> I certainly can. >> If you're [laughter] not ready, we can add it to next time. >> No, [clears throat] I think I can give it a good rundown. So, I did share
um the digital experience email with everybody. everyone should be able to have access to all of the sessions. Um, I was able to attend all three days online and it was this is the second year that they've done the digital experience and I think they've really done such a dynamic job with um creating an engaging space and having um the ability to participate in the conversations and to gain the knowledge and to make the networking connections um without actually being there which you know is of course an incredible experience all on its own. Um, a lot of the topics surrounded um, student engagement and mental health. Um, a lot of talks on AI and some of the benefits and some of the drawbacks, you know, and how kids our kids like that are our elementary
school age are kind of see it as a tool. You know, they're going to look at it like we look at Google basically is kind of the consensus. Um, so I thought that was a really interesting coming from someone who has no experience in AI. That was a really cool kind of conversation starter. Um, we also did a digital Jeopardy. We did two rounds of digital school board Jeopardy and uh, Marian won the first round. [laughter] So that was super cool. Um but really and I did um I I just was able to connect with a lot of people across the state again and I think uh you know it's another really great opportunity to see where Marian is like the people that we have here the families and community that we build the organization
that we run. It's it really is a step above Casey. I know you kind of tagline small but mighty and that really just rings true every time I get to kind of interact in those spaces. So kudos to Mary. [laughter] >> Excellent. Thank you. >> I don't have any other reports. Does anyone else have anything they want to >> just the legislative committee? We have finished, you know, we worked on the state and federal papers and are looking forward to Friday morning. um the legislative breakfast. >> Is there anything with that committee like that you need us to write? Like is there a standard letter that you guys have come up with that we should all send out or promote being sent out? >> Well, just the the state position paper and the federal position
paper which um I forwarded to everybody. Um, >> that's there have been previous times where they've written a letter and wanted us to share it so that people could download it and then send it themselves. >> Okay. >> So, if that comes up >> Okay. All right. >> Please let us know we can get on that sooner than later. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Miss Lydia, it is time for the student representative report. Um it was holiday season so the students were busy. Um during we had spirit week and Mr. Dean dressed as Buddy the elf and all of the students who sent out BKC's they would get delivered candy and other like treats and prizes to encourage BKC sending. Um for spirit week we had days like red and green day, Adam Sandler
day and white out. That was a big hit. Um, we ended the spirit week with a penny fund where we raised over $2,300 for the food pantry. Um, the seniors are the ones who won that and, uh, we got a movie at the Lion's Theater and our penny fund theme this year was Jeopardy. So, all of the students represented a different teacher and we all got to play that out which is very fun. The band and choir performed at East View and also at the penny fund. Uh, the German students also made gingerbread houses. There was a mall, a Bill Stadium, and I think a wicked scene. So, they were all spread out in front of the auditorium, and people got to vote on them. And we ended our choir concert with the 12 Days
of Christmas, which was of course chaotic, but fun. [laughter] And um kind of lastly in terms of sports um there was a wrestling match I think over break and I'm pretty sure Zach and Johnny won. Did they win this? >> He did. >> They did. And um basketball, the girls varsity basketball is having a donut fundraiser. So that is also going if you want to find them. [laughter] >> Would we come see you for that by chance? >> Yes. They're $8. A [clears throat] dozen [laughter] from >> Where are the donuts from? >> Um, our coach has a like a bakery thing that she like runs and operates and they're like coaches are making them and then we're hand delivering them and writing notes. >> All right, your turn. All right, I'll [snorts] plug in
for my update. All right. So, I have um three topics today before we get to the course description guide. So, um, a kind of big picture talking future planning, a quick update on driver's ed, and then a little bit about athletic spectator expectation reminders and kind of some procedures that we're going to put into place that we haven't always previously done. [laughter] So, in terms of future planning, um, we have found out that we're going to lose our community schools funding. So, that's a big hit for us. Um, if that loss fully comes through, it would be approximately $6 million over two years. And that doesn't impact just Marian, that impacts Wayne County Community Schools. So, um, more than 15 schools and community organizations. Uh, the grant team was notified of that on the 15th
of December, and it's not related to compliance or outcomes or because people weren't doing a good job with that grant work. um it's all related to federal funding and what the priorities are for federally funded projects right now. So, knowing that most likely that money is going away, like we're continuing all of our things that we do here to try and be proactive. Um as the board knows, we have already been a RIP recipient. Like we've gotten the boost grant, which was $2.5 million over five years. Um Mrs. Steiner has put in hours of work to get that into the New York State contract system so we can actually get our first like dispersement from that grant. So, we're in the final stages of our contract approval and we really hope that like that funding
will start for Marian soon. Um, also the board knows about the Wallace Foundation grant that affects also, you know, Wayne County, Wayne County Community Schools. The next planning session um will be actually next week. I'll be attending for three days in New Orleans to do planning with the Wayne County Community Schools team for that. Um Mrs. Steiner has been working hard on applications for other grant funding. So we previously have been recipients of ESL Eastman savings and loan grants um for summer programming. We've applied for that again. Um also Mrs. Steiner has put in our application uh with food link for a grant for some community garden funding that will help support some of our work with FFA, some of our work with farm club. Also, we'll be applying for a dollar family uh or
dollar general family literacy grant. In addition, thinking about like thinking forward and future planning, um we plan on continuing offering distance learning, maybe expanding some course offerings in uh the 2627 school year. So currently we offer via distance learning ASL, Spanish, and physics. So, um, they're starting to plan, the distance learning consortium, I call I'll call it, is starting to plan for next school year what those offerings um might be. So, that's a place where we'd like to continue um to offer distance learning because that helps us generate some revenue here. Um, also we are going to be participating uh as the board knows in the early college access co-ervice agreement with Boseies. Again, that allows us to get some Bosey's reimbursement on our dual credit course offerings that we have here. Um, so, you
know, things like where students will get high school credit and college credit um for their coursework. We're actually um at the end of this week going to meet with Sunni and Morrisville to see if we can do a partnership with them. We currently partner with Asiggo and FLCC for some dual credit offerings. We're going to see if we can um expand that to offer some things with Morrisville because they give um dual credit for a lot of egg offerings. So, some of our coursework in egg we're hoping can go into this dual credit option and that would be a nice opportunity for our kids. Um we've been working on the enrichment co-ervice agreement with Broom Tyogga Boseies. So this is a co-ervice agreement that Wayne Fingerlakes Boseies doesn't offer. So we have to do something
called a cross contract with another Boseies um Broom Tyogga in order to use um this enrichment coaster. But that what that will allow us to do is um partner with Boseies and get Boseies funding for things like mini camps uh junior senior high enrichments some club activities. So that's something where we would get um Bosey's aid back on any activities we offer that are considered enrichment activities for our students. So, we're excited about that and we're hoping to get that co-ervice agreement off the ground the second semester of this school year. Um, so hopefully we can get through there's a lot of paperwork. Hopefully we can get through all of that paperwork and get that approval so we can start second semester of this school year and try that out. Um, also we're planning uh
to expand as the board knows we have Agra Path currently for 9th grade students like McKenna from Sodas uh coming here to do full day work. Uh next year that will be 9th graders and 10th graders but looking forward to 2728. Um we're in the planning phases for expanding to a full agrous career and technical education program in partnership with Boseis. So in essence our um egg program would operate as a satellite CTE program for Wayne Fingerlakes. So instead of students like going for uh to like Wayne Tech and career center in Williamson if they chose the aggra business program they would come to Marian to get that programming. Um again that partnership helps generate revenue for the district. Then finally uh over break we had some interest. Ganandanda reached out uh to see if
the board would be interested in having a meeting the superintendent and a few board members to explore what options there might be to create a shared school district border. So, as the board knows from our conversations about mergers previously, um you need to share a school district boundary in order to ever consider a merger. So, this is something that Ganam is interested since we don't currently share a border for exploring ways that we possibly could uh in case there's interest ever in the future for merging. So right now that's not even a possibility because we don't share a border. Um so this is an invitation for a conversation to say all right is there a way through like a school district boundary change through a land purchase that we could create a shared border between
the districts as an opportunity maybe for the future. Does anybody that was a lot. Does anybody have questions on anything in that [snorts] section? No. Well, [laughter] >> okay. >> Again, for those listening at home, we are not looking at merging with anyone. It is only to see if we can share a border. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Uh a quick update for the board on driver's ed. So, as you know, we had sent our initial interest survey out to seniors. uh we've secured an instructor for driver's ed and we have the ability to pay the instructor through boost grant funding once that like officially comes through to us. So that is exciting. Also, um part of the reason why we're very excited about this enrichment co-service agreement is that they have agreed that um
once we get our car lease worked out that we can run that car lease agreement through that enrichment co-ervice, which would allow us to get some aid back on the car lease for driver's ed, which would be great. So, because of those two things, we would be able to offer driver's ed at no cost to families. Uh we think that's a pretty exciting opportunity for kids. Um right now we're only going to be able to open that up to seniors it looks like, but we're hoping that you know we'll try it out with our seniors having first dips this year and see how it goes and hopefully it's something that can be sustainable. So our next steps um are to finalize our car lease and we have to do you know all the safety things
like getting the instructor brake installed. We'll get out updated interest and registration information to seniors and we're hoping um if everything comes through for a potential start date of March 1st of this year. So that's something that we're super excited about and feel like it's a really productive way to use our grant. >> What's that? >> You're not the only one. [laughter] >> Does anybody have driver's side questions before I move on? Is it going to be during the school day or will it be like an after school? >> So that's something um our instructor is willing to be very flexible. So a couple of our seniors have early release and could potentially maybe have some like drive times during that early release. Probably the majority of it um our instructor says he works really
hard to work around scheduling. So if kids have conflicts with things like athletics or Bosey's programming or whatever it might be, um he does kind of a customized schedule. You have to be able to get in 16 class time and 16 drive times. So I think it's once we know who wants to participate and what their schedules are, then they'll make a custom schedule that hopefully works for everybody. Are you going to are we going to know well enough in advance because you're only offering it to seniors well enough in advance for the juniors to be able to go through Pelac if we need them or if you're going to have it next year. >> Um >> do you want to answer that? Right now procedure process is not to ask questions during the sorry
do you want to answer that? >> I can attempt to answer that. I think we need to like get through one round of this to see how it goes to know if it's going to like work for us and be something that's >> But that's what I'm asking like if it's not going to work and you're not going to have it for next year like are we going to know enough in advance as junior parents like >> okay we can sign up for Pelac because that's where we typically would go would be Pel for the summer. >> Yeah, that's true. I don't know like I would say it would take us a couple months to know if this is like feasible or not. I don't have >> be during the summer anyway. Correct. >> This
wouldn't No. So, no. But that's what I'm saying. But if it's offered for him his senior year, I'm not going to take his whole summer and drive back and forth to come back with him if he can have [clears throat] it next year here at Marian like because they're only offering it to seniors. So, >> right. >> It doesn't sound like we're going to be able to answer that for you in time to get >> or guarantee it. >> Yeah. Uh then lastly, just a little bit about athletic spectator expectations. Um we've had some spectator issues this year in all of our sports seasons so far. Um you know, it's happened with our own Marian spectators with spectators from other districts. So um we've done our own review about section 5 sportsmanship and what those
guidelines are. Um we're going to be offering up you know some additional training for our supervisors on how to respond in those situations because uh it's difficult and I will also share like it's difficult to find supervisors and I think uh people are very hesitant sometimes to intervene because of fear of what the response might be when they intervene and my personal fear is that we will start to lose people who want to supervise. or you know that's I think a regionwide problem with things like coaching and refereeing. So I'm hoping that we can support our supervisors and have a positive environment for everyone so that we have people who feel comfortable coming as spectators who feel comfortable like as our own community being here and not worrying about who's coming in and out from
other places and what those interactions might be. Um the standard procedure is for uh supervisors to give spectators warnings. So two warnings and then um be asked to leave an event. Um we're really going to move forward with that next bullet of if people are refusing to leave, we're going to just call law enforcement. Uh, so that's something that a lot of schools, as you know, have SRO's and as you know, we're still on the wait list. Um, so because we don't have anyone that in the moment can do that type of response, we're going to be asking our supervisors to call law enforcement to do that removal, we don't want to ask our staff members to be doing that. Um, and just so people are clear, like some things it might be this situation
that follows that standard procedure, like somebody's had two warnings, then they need to leave. But there's also things that result in immediate removal from section 5. So things like if it's at the request of an official, like if an official says you need to leave, like then our supervisors would be asking that person to depart. um situations like verbal abuse, a physical altercation or threatening for an altercation, entering the field of play. Those are examples of things that would be there wouldn't be a warning process. It would be you need to leave. Uh so I just wanted the board to be aware of this that it's an issue. We're working on it and hope to see some improvements. Um, in general, these are the section five spectator expectations. So, these are things that we will
remind our spectators of when they're here in Marian. Um, you know, all centered around good sportsmanship and again really wanting to have an environment where everyone feels welcome. our community doesn't feel like there's animosity when from other people who are coming in that we can have like an orderly athletic event where people are positively cheering and able to have a comfortable space for kids to compete and everyone else to spectate. Does anybody have questions about that? Okay, those are the end of my slides. The last thing in my section um requires board action. It's the junior senior high course description guide for 2627. So that's linked in the board's agenda and just requires approval. Does anyone have any questions on the course description guide? >> Get a motion to accept. >> I'll move it. >>
Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Abstained. Motion passes. We skipping the visit. >> Well, I actually [laughter] Mr. Mr. Walker is um on vacation, so I have his update for the board. So, you'll see um in your agenda, there's multiple things that will require board action. I'll give you kind of an overview of each thing. In terms of the budget update, uh the first budget committee meeting will be January 20th. Uh we have about three community members so far that have signed up to participate and anyone else is welcome to join. Uh the governor's budget if it's on time should come out later this month. So we'll be looking for that. The second item, the 2425 extra classroom audit. So that's something that requires board action. Uh
there's a few findings from last year that have been cleared up uh cleared up, but we still have a few more to clean up and a few new findings to address. So these are all things related to how we manage money in our um club accounts. So things like there's some uh deposits that aren't made in a timely manner, how we manage cash um that you know how we manage cash boxes, those types of things. So that's one um that audit report will require board action. >> Does anyone have any questions on the >> Can I get a motion to approve? I'll move. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I opposed. Motion passes. >> All right. The action plan. >> Yes. The next next up is the corrective action plan. So, um, the corrective
action plan is what the district agrees to do to make sure that we don't have these problems in the future. So, for example, um, establishing a secure location for cash receipts and after hours deposits. Um, how cash boxes get turned in, they're going to go through the central treasurer. Uh, there's a big finding that will be tricky, I think, for us to navigate that's around raffles. So, school districts aren't allowed to offer any games of chance, and this extracurricular audit found that we're out of compliance because of things like German club raffle baskets. So, we're going to uh need to discontinue our raffles and find a different uh fundraising opportunity for that. So, um, we're consulting with our attorney knowing that that's a big fundraiser for like German club raffle baskets or things like the
pink game that volleyball hosts, they do, you know, raffle baskets as a fundraiser for that. So, that's one we'll have to work through. >> Was that was the FFA auction fall under that or that because that's not a game of chance. >> Yes, since that's not a game of chance that was not one of the findings. Um and then also we have in our corrective action plan the annual training. We'll continue our annual training with for club advisors to make sure um they know what the rules are. Specifically, there was a finding around resale certificates. So um you know the procedures you have to follow if you're a club that say like buys candy from BJ's and then resells it. You're allowed to do that. But you just have to make sure you have the
right paperwork. So that's part of our corrective action plan. >> So that's the corrective action plan does need board approval. Anyone have any questions? Can we get a motion? >> I'll move it. >> Thank you. Second. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I opposed. Abstain. Motion passes. >> All right. Next one is the annual external single audit for 2025. Um, Mr. Walker's very excited that there were no findings on that report. So, the board just needs to approve that report. >> Who would like to move that there? >> Accept the no findings. [laughter] >> I'll second. >> Thank you. All in favor? I >> opposed. Abstained. Motion passes. >> Real tough one there. [laughter] Um the next one is the bond resolution and that does require um board action because our capital project passed
um the board needs to authorize the financing. So uh the resolution authorizes the district to finance 20,259,848 of the $24,125,000 voter authorized capital project. The remaining $3,865,152 will come out of the capital reserve. Uh the financing will start with a bond anticipation note for a portion of the 20,259,000 $259800 >> big number. >> 20,259,848. [laughter] And uh it's good for a one year for one year to act as a bridge until the bond is secured at the end of the project. So that uh bond anticipation note will probably run from June 2026 through June 2027. So it kind of gets us through till the permanent financing. >> Could you say that number? [laughter] >> We're all gonna have it memorized. >> That was my question. Anyone else have any questions? All right. Is there a
motion? >> I'll move it. I'll second. All right. Thank yours. [laughter] >> All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Abstained. Motion passes. >> And then lastly, it's just the updated financial report. Uh we had the state aid output report came out and so the revenues are updated on this financial report. um you'll see about a $90,000 increase that was due to increases in Bosey's aid and excess cost aid. So that is also something that requires board approval. >> Who wants Who wants it? >> Thank you. >> I'll second. >> Thank you. All in favor? I >> post abstained. Motion passes. Before we go into policy review, I'm noticing from last. >> Well, I was we don't have the admin of reviews. Do you want to pass? >> Oh, did I forget the admin? >> That's
okay. I mean, it was Christmas. [laughter] >> You survived it. >> Everyone's prepared. >> Everyone's back, right? >> Do you want to give updates or would you like to skip it? >> I'm getting a lot of this. >> We're prepared for updates. We can keep them brief. >> We'll keep them brief. Just let us know how happy you are to be back. Let's do that then [laughter] before the policy review and the consent agenda. You guys ready? >> Okay. >> Um I don't have tons to report. Um one of the big things that's coming up is our January conference day. So CIC will be meeting next week to finalize. Both buildings have been working on their agendas. Um, you know, high school will typically work on data analysis because midterms midterms are happening. I'm sure
they're going to talk about that. Um, and then the elementary school really is curriculum and data analysis. Again, it's that time of year to do that. So, that's what we're um since I last was here, we've had some CSE meetings. Um the one big thing to report is that we previously had a student attending our integrated UPK program from Gananda. He moved to Fairport and Fairport asked if he could continue with us and we loved having him and we had space and we said yes and so he starts tomorrow with us from Fairport and so we've done a ton of work to get a Monroe County student to come to our program but Dr. Boy really helped with that. So did Mr. Walker and Mrs. hair and so we'll have a Monro County student from
Fairport coming here. Fairport does not have in integrated GPK programs and so we're excited to see where it goes. Um they have told me their CPSC chair that people really care about this student because we've emailed and said when is he coming? When is he coming? We can't wait to see him. What are we going to do? So it's an exciting new step for us to have Fairport coming to Marian. That's my main big thing to say. >> [laughter] >> Um, so it was Christmas. So last time I was here, I said we had a whole bunch of things happening at the elementary school in December and a whole bunch of things happened. Um, >> that's the best succinct way of [laughter] >> those things I said. >> Yeah, they all occurred. Um, but it's
it's all fun stuff. Um, they'll talk more about the penny fund is really a high school thing, but like we support that. And so we have an assembly at the end of the week, right before break, um like celebrating the money that was raised. Um for us, third grade raised the most, 358, and first grade first grade raised second with $266. I'm not sure what that's going to look like now that we don't have pennies moving forward, right? So like that might have to be rethought, but um as a whole, MEES raised $1,321 and um Mrs. Marlo's class went door decorating. We did something new at our assembly this year. We did um caroling around the odds. So every grade level had a different song that they practiced and then they took turns like singing
around which was really super cute. >> Um love that. And I can't take credit for it. I believe was idea. So thank you. >> Um we also with the support of community schools actually um there was a phenomenal field trip to TOPS for our second graders I got to go see happen. Sorry if I'm stealing your but it like I thought about it repeatedly over break because it just embodied every single aspect of like what we want our kids to experience. So it was directly connected to their content. It was, you know, they were out in the community making a difference. It gave them agency to be able to, you know, talk and shop and all that kind of stuff. So um without going into great detail about it, it was just it was a
phenomenal experience. I know there's some like articles out there, right, that like explain what happened, but it was it was great. I literally thought about it repeatedly because I don't think there's anything really that I can think of that embodies more so the whole child's aspect of like educating our kids. It was beautiful and wonderful. So, and then we do have conference day coming up. Not nearly as exciting as all of the December stuff, but it's still exciting for teachers. Um, we are going to dive into some of our special education data um around uh ELA test data, make sure that we're meeting the needs of those students. We're going to continue working on strengthening our comprehension program at the primary level. Um, we have panorama which is a data dashboard. So, some of the
teachers are interested in finding out more ways that they can leverage the information in there. And then we also are going to have an opportunity for our aids and DAs to meet with me and kind of talk about building safety. So, that's what we're working on. Awesome. So, I'll just expand a little bit giving the opportunity on the second grade field trip. So that was a collaboration between the second grade teachers who really did a lot of the like instructional focus and um that type of thing and they kind of like dreamt up an idea and then Miss Lorenzen, our community school coordinator, is trained through the Salvation Army to um write vouchers and TOPS accepts those vouchers. Um, so I don't know if you all know but the red kettle campaigns that we see
around Christmas time, all the money raised in our region and specifically at TOPS in Ganada or Walworth rather um stays in our area and supports families and Miss Lensen can write those vouchers. So she worked with Salvation Army wrote vouchers so that the kids could use that money to shop and then they made that a donation to our food pantry in the school. So that touched on social studies, math, um they even tied in music by making bells. It was really, it was a cool experience and the kids really enjoyed it and >> they were really proud of themselves. >> Hoping for more of some those types of experiences going forward >> and one of the most valuable things they learned >> was that toilet paper is extremely expensive. They [laughter] had like >> Well,
if you don't want it to hurt like $5 [laughter] left. They were talking about one of the classes was talking about well what were some of the things that were on the list that is required and so they went to that aisle and like their eyes popped out of their head because it was extremely expensive. They were able to to find some things that they could purchase. Um and then when asked when they got back Mrs. Vernum was telling me that one of the kids actually said the thing I learned is toilet paper's really expensive. You did. [laughter] Oh my god. Spaghetti sauce cost so much. [laughter] >> Um coupons. >> Yeah. Other news in the community schools world. Uh we wrapped up all of the holiday food and gift distribution which is a big
lift in November and December. Um our team gave out hot cocoa at the merry and community Christmas parade which is always such a wonderful community event. I know Michelle was there judging some of the floats and it's just such a fun holiday experience. Um, I love doing it and we'll look forward to next year too. >> This is so good. The Griswald station wagon. [laughter] See, I don't get to see the floats very well. >> It was just parked. They were tailgating sitting in the back of it with a Christmas tree on the top of their car. >> Apparently, it'll be in there next year. We've >> 10 out of 10. >> [laughter] >> Um, another thing, so our community, well, uh, Mr. Madison actually reached out to me. He is one of the people
in the community that are committed to food security in the community. And this came up as a really um, important topic at our recent community schools advisory board. And so I was grateful for the invitation. We all met this past Saturday at the library. a bunch of different individuals in the community that are just focused on improving food security in Marian. And so it was nice to be all in the same room and to find ways that we can collaborate and organize ourselves a little bit better. Um and so I'm really excited. I left that meeting super energized um and with lots of ideas um and of course we have a grant application out there for a community garden so hopeful for that. Um, we have been growing our study work program. So, studywork is
a Wayne County Community Schools program. It stands for skills training and employment access for the development of youth. So, kids are able to get paid internships through Fingerlakes Community Action. Um, and Mrs. Luca, our high school community school coordinator, kind of onboards them and gets them into work sites. And um we've had kind of up and [clears throat] ups and downs with study work and we're really I think kind of like growing and it's slowly going in the right direction especially with the boost grant potentially coming. I'm just excited students one of them mostly with us at the community Christmas parade. Um and we look forward to having them like help us kind of with some events and different things that we have planned for the summer. So we're really enjoying that and it's it's
looking like a nice opportunity for our students too. Um, and then just a shameless plug, next week on Tuesday, um, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. is our community schools advisory board meeting. And that meeting is on Zoom, so people can join. So, please help us get the word out. Feel free to join. We'd love to have as many people as possible. On December 12th, our ASL classes had um career folks come in and present to them on different careers within the ASL strand. Um which was really neat because uh there's a lot of things that graduates can do that don't require a college degree. So kudos to Mrs. Duffy for organizing that. Uh, as Lid talked about, our holiday concert was awesome as ever on December 15th. Kudos [snorts] to all of our excellent musicians
on bringing that holiday spirit. Speaking of, on the 16th, the World Language Club hosted a cookie decorating event for students, which was another great holiday event. And on the 17th, our Shaquoir and Jazz Band performed at East View as as per tradition. And then um on the 19th, as Lid mentioned, we had our penny fund assembly and the high school raised over $1,000 with the seniors um being the victorious class. Coming up, we've got our conference day in a couple of weeks. As Nikki mentioned, we'll focus on data review and rating. We also have a training on responding to harmful comments for our staff and we will offer some CPR training for some select staff members that do a lot of field trips. And for anyone feeling the winter blues on our first week back,
don't worry. Only 26 school days before February breaking. [laughter] Um, earlier this month, a few staff members from the district went to a restorative training practice in Rochester. Um, Miss O'Hare, uh, I went, uh, Jamie Flint went, and then Lin Luca and who else went? Um, >> I did. >> Yes, I just said that. Um there were a couple people from community schools that went and so it was like really profound because we also had some youth student leaders come as well and participate in it. And the purpose of it was really to like embed ourselves in like the roots of restorative practices, the continuum of how to use those practices um within circle work but then also effective language that can be used um to help with students um in the school community. So,
it was a really cool experience. It was two days um and it was like super meaningful especially for the students. They came back and said that they learned a lot and they felt like it was really impactful for them. And then coming up we have our midterm week which is the week of the 20th. Um and we're we're conducting some regent exams as well. So, we've been working hard on those getting transportation ready, lunches for students, um and just getting all of the rooms set up for proctors. So, Right. Tech department had a very busy December. Um so even though we were off for two weeks. Um we had 46 help desk tickets closed. Um but the biggest fun was here over break. We did our copier replacement. So we replaced all 13 copier printers
across the district, all three buildings. Um, that includes not only replacing the Xerox with the Toshiba machines, but developing a new print server, new print policies, new everything. And we were ready to go Monday morning and to get users in and with very, very little disruption. It was it went really, really well. We also rolled out our EAC solution. We transitioned from the traditional fax line and fax machine to a an EAC solution that allows us to much more flexibility. Um, we were having some some issues with some of the the really old traditional plain old telephone lines that just had noise on them and it was just, you know, especially in elementary school, it was just the old old wiring that we are now can that's no longer an issue. So, back to having
all of our fax lines working the way they're supposed to. Uh, but yeah, it's been a it's been a hopping week and a half. But yeah. [laughter] >> So, moving on, we have our first policy review. We will see these again when we approve them, but did anyone have any questions on them when they read them this time? Okay. And that was just for your enjoyment. Moving on. Consent agenda items. Does anyone have any questions on the nine item? No. Eight items on the list. No. Can we get a motion to approve, please? >> I'll move it. >> Thank you. Is there a second? >> I'll second. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Abstain. Motion passes. community. Did you have any comments on tonight's meeting? >> I'm all set. >> Okay.
>> So, may I please have a motion to adjourn to executive session for the purpose of discussing potential litigation? >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. All in favor? >> I motion passes. We will be going into second. Please don't anyone feel you need to hang out for us about two >> [laughter]
