I hope everyone else is as well. I only answer for myself. All right, and we will get the party started. It is 6 o'clock. We're calling the order. Let the record show that only Miss Taber is absent from the board. Please stand and join us for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Did anyone have questions on the agenda or were there additions? >> Uh the only addition is item 10 on consent agenda. Approve substitute sports supervisor. Do we have any questions? If not, may I have someone move it? >> I'll move it. >> Thank you. Is there a second? A >> second. Thank you. All
in favor? Opposed? Abstain. Motion passes. passing the baton right on over to you. All right. So, we wanted to take a minute to recognize our school board. So, in October, we celebrate school board appreciation. So, um I have a proclamation to read from Governor Hokll and then the board has um different treats and thank yous like both at your spot and digitally that we'll share with you um once we get through our proclamation. So the proclamation states, "Whereas New York State has one of the best public education systems in the nation, compile comprised of 731 school districts overseen by more than 700 school boards whose members are the educational leaders in their communities, determine determining policies that govern their local public school systems, and providing guidance for statewide school system that serves nearly 2.7 million
of New York State's children. And whereas our state's public schools consistently maintain high standards so as to best meet the educational needs of all children and empower them to become informed, productive contributors to society and an everchanging world. And whereas we recognize the role of school boards in partnering with school administrators and educators to provide students with a safe and healthy learning environment and ensure optimum opportunities for intellectual and personal growth. And whereas members of school boards are committed to serving the children and schools of our communities and devote many hours to elementary and secondary public education as they continually strive for improvement, excellence, and progress in education, recognizing that all children can be successful learners. And whereas these dedicated individuals are strong advocates for public education and are responsible for communicating the needs of
the school district to the public and the public's expectations to the district by working closely with parents, educational professionals, and other school community members. And now, therefore, I, Cathy Kathy Hokll, governor of New York State, hereby do proclaim October 13 through 17, 2025 as schoolboard recognition week. So, thank you to our school board member. >> Thank you. >> You need to tell her to be less wordy. >> Um Naen's going to pull up some of your digital thank yous, which are definitely like uh worth a close watch. >> I hope someone was half up. You got it. Just think how fast you adapt. >> I figured out it was locked. moving. >> Yeah, I'm gonna start that over because this is just really cool. >> Whose class is this? >> Uh, Mrs. Mhart and M.
Are you ready to take a minute? >> Good morning everyone. I call you to order [Music] today about something special. >> What does the board education do? >> They help make guys awesome. >> They make sure everything They have first [Music] >> she Thank you for making fun. >> Thank you for helping our teacher. >> Emotion passes. Thank you board. Thank you board. >> We appreciate you. >> You're the best. >> Your mouth did not move in that video, Alex, at all. >> You nailed the words, though. [Music] That's the last slide. >> So >> that was Mrs. Angelber and Mr. Mr. >> Replacement. We need to have that sort of problem solving on the fly. >> Yes. [Music] That was Mrs. Bernon's class. And that is it. Cute. anyone sign up for public comment?
>> Nobody signed up for public comment. >> I know though that we do have two people from FFA um pages just to support you guys today and they're the ones that brought the homebaked goods and there's cards from for each of you from them. >> Thank you. Do we want to flip-flop and start your yours before the board goes while we're discombobulated? >> Oh, yeah. I was getting up to do that because I was out of order. So, >> well, we're we're in the right setup. Otherwise, we have to watch me fight with the wheel two three more times. >> I'm happy to do that. >> All right. All right, I have a pretty short update this time for the board. Um, I wanted to update the board. Last time, um, we had talked about
like the Wallace, the possibility of a Wallace Foundation grant. So, I have an update for you on that. um a quick like recap of our conference day talking a little bit about winter sports mergers and then um some potential new drivers education programming that we're excited about that. So, um, the Wallace Foundation did an announcement, like their big announcements were the day after our board meeting. Um, and the Wayne County Partnership, which is what Wayne County Community Schools, um, is a part of, did receive one of the Wallace Foundation grants. So, that's huge. It's one of seven awards in the nation out of 700 or yeah, 1,700 applications. Um, and it's about $6 to$10 million over six years. Um, it's meant to build like continue to build cross- sector partnerships like within Wayne County to
help support students um, cradle to career they call it. And as part of this, Marian's going to be a pilot location for some of their um, initial programming work. So, that's super exciting for us. I think it's really a testament to like the hard work we've done with community schools and really um to be thinking forward about like how we're supporting kids as like whole people and not just on the academic side. So very excited about this. >> How do we get them to go closer to 10 than six? >> What's that? >> How do we get them to go closer to the 10 million on the six? Well, they like I have a couple of slides that like Wallace put out that I won't read all of them, but one of their big pieces
is um they're very involved in like developing the programming and like how the funding looks over time because they part of their um mission is being able to like take what they've learned like through they like do a research project while they um do these grant funds. So they are trying to come up with like best practices that they can share with other communities across the nation. So I do think they'll be very involved over time in developing this with us. Um the grant itself is called advancing opportunities for adolesccents. Um, and really they're looking to prioritize high quality youth development opportunities. Um, so they're really looking for us to be able to build connections for students to out of school opportunities that help, as they say, spark new interests, skills, and awareness of potential
future careers that they might choose. Um, another reason that we're really excited about this is like this is very much aligned with the boost grant that Marian just got at the end of the summer. So really these two things will like um these two grants will work well together and I'm hoping like will really be synergistic for our kids in terms of the opportunities that they can provide. Um Wallace gives a little rationale about like why the focus on adolescence. So um really that like adolescence is such a big time for like growth for students. Um, and so it's a great time to be able to work with kids to really have them like thinking and exploring things that maybe they wouldn't typically on their own, but um, gives them a chance to connect with
a skill or an interest that they might then follow through into adulthood and careers. So this is just like a little peek at the other communities who um were recipients of this grant. So two in New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Colorado, Utah, and California. So that's where um the from this set of funding those were the award winners. And then really this is like just the highlevel look at like what are the key elements of this um grant work. So like I said um they're really big into collaborative planning of like what this looks like over time. Um, it's designed to help increase access to youth development opportunities. Um, to strengthen youth development practices and programs. Um, a strand of this is what they call navigationbased or relationship based navigation supports. We would probably call that
like mentoring. That's a form of mentoring. But the idea that they're working from is like to help kids early on think about like what their interests are and is there an adult that can work with them to say, "Oh, you might be like interested in this career or I know someone in our community that's a mechanic. Like can we help get you like connected with that person?" Um, a big piece of it is that shared youth development data and continuous improvement to help do that local and national research. Um, and then another piece is the sustainability factor. Like one of their um priorities, the Wallace Foundation is that this is an initiative that becomes sustainable for communities. that it's not a like one-time infusion of money. That a chunk of that money goes into how
are you as a community building a sustainable system. So that the opportunities that we like find and create for kids are ones that are not just temporary for the six years of this grant funding, but are able to be um instituted and accessible over time. And then there's the communications piece of it. um like when everything is said and done, they look to put out like their research and their learning from these projects to other communities who might want to replicate what has been done. Um this is more detail on like the high level that I've just shared. So I'm going to skip over this, but the board can certainly like go back to it if they'd like to. Um, and then again just some of the benefits. I won't um read all of them,
but I would say like that third bullet that the community prioriti prioritizes high quality youth development opportunities for adolesccents um through greater attention to resource allocation, increased capacity, sustainable funding, and shared vision for how youth development practices can support the whole child. I'd say like that's the central idea of this work that um really thinking about like we have so many resources like in Marian and in Wayne County that we can tap into um to help all kids find like a career pathway that's right for them a life pathway that's right for them and how are we working together not just like in Marian but with the county as a whole to make that happen for Um they just talk a little bit about like why do we worry about high quality out of school
time? Like why is that important and what do those opportunities bring to youth? So, um, belonging, social bonds, like the chance to like develop and support their identity, a sense of purpose that they're able to like graduate from high school and have an opportunity, know what they're interested in doing. And then it talks a little bit about um some talking points you might want to have like as a board or people um who know a little bit about this like funding. So it's something again they give you some talking points to consider if people like ask you about this really. Um the big idea is that this is just the beginning. like they do a whole year of planning and then a whole year of pilot before you're like officially into what they consider like
the work plan of your grant. So, it's a long lead time and I think a thoughtful process. So, this is genuinely just the very beginning of their work. Does anybody have questions about that? about grant stuff. Um the conference day, we talked last time about like what was going to be happening on the conference day. I'm just like bringing back what our staff worked on that day. Um I will say I know she's not here tonight, but like a big kudos to Nikki Miller who like did it all the conference day. um led some really high quality uh professional development in both buildings. So um very appreciative to her for that. And um it's always good to have a chance to like have staff together in community thinking about um like our instructional priorities, our
goals for the school year. So, um definitely a productive conference day and one where um we're able to like move our work and our goals forward. Winter sports mergers. We had talked about like potential mergers back in for winter back in September. Um so, just bringing that back, here's kind of where we stand. Um, for winter 2025, we're looking at um, girls basketball, JV, and varsity merged again with Williamson. We did that last year. We'll do that again this year. Um, same for indoor track and wrestling that those again will be merged with the same partners as last year. Indoor track with Gan, wrestling with Williamson. Um, we do have some winter 2025 standalone teams. So, boys and girls modified basketball we think will be standalone teams. We don't have all the like interest numbers
yet, but our predictions um are that those two will be standalone teams as well as boys JV basketball will be a standalone Marian team, not merged. Um we have done initial interest meetings for boys basketball and we don't have enough interest to offer a varsity level team. So for boys basketball um it will just be a JV Marionon team. We did put out um a request to other schools to see if anyone was interested interested in merging with us at the varsity level to get the numbers to be able to have a full team. but we didn't get any interest. So, we'll offer JV only. Um, any athletes who were like varsity who are varsity age, like 11th or 12th graders, the league will let them play on that JV team. So, that is something
for basketball. >> I love that >> to be aware of. >> I don't love being on another team and my kid's in nth grade on JV. we're going to put a senior against my kid like that. >> That's something that we like take to the like it goes to Wayne County League. So, >> I also will say that um it's very few upper classmen who are currently interested. So, I think it's four total if they all decide to play. Um, we do I had talked in September about maybe some potential new mergers because we've had some student interest in sports that we don't offer. So, some new ones that um we're going to be having happen in the winter would be cheerleading at the modified level with Gananda, swimming at the modified level with Gananda,
and bowling hopefully at the girls varsity level in Newark. So, those are some new ones that um a big shout out to Miss Deizer for putting in the work to have, you know, kids express an interest and then she's really the person that has worked to find these opportunities for our kids. Any questions on that? Then lastly, um driver's education opportunity. So we are looking at ways that we can utilize that boost grant funding which similar to Wallace is meant to provide opportunities for kids in that like out of school time. One of the things um that we're looking at doing is being able to offer driver's education for our students. Um so we are able to fund the staffing for that through the boost grant. Um, we did put out an initial student interest
survey and we got 18 responses from our juniors and seniors saying if you offered this, we would be interested. Um, so we have completed there's an application to be able to offer a driver's education program in your district. Um, we've completed that application and state ed has approved it. So that's that's >> I know >> you just had that survey. Yes, we like submitted it digitally and I think we got it back what, Miss Mitchell? Maybe two days. >> Two days. >> It was like the fastest turnaround we've ever had. >> Way to go. >> So, we do have a couple of next steps before we can get this fully off the ground. Obviously, um in order to offer driver's ed, you have to have a car available um with the right equipment set up
like the brake for the instructor. Um so that's something that Mr. Walker has already reached out to a couple of places to see what the cost of that would be. Um how that works, like what dealerships are willing to work with the district. So our hope is um for a spring offering of drivers education. Um, we're still working on the timeline and dates, but the idea is that it would like start early spring and it would end before summer. Um, because seniors, if they're going to take driver's ed, they have to get it in before the end of the school year. Obviously, they can't participate in a school program if they've graduated. So, we're hoping to get that in in the spring, but just wanted the board to know like we're very excited about this
as a possible opportunity and like have done some work and everything's on a good path. So, hopefully the next time I update you on this, I'll be saying yes, we're like ready to go for spring. >> Questions about that? >> No, it's great. >> Okay, thank you. >> Presenting anything indoors? Can I go? No, I can go back. >> You can go back. Do not have a student representative this evening. So, we'll move on to our school business administrators report. Mr. Walker. >> Okay. Uh, I just have two items. Uh, first item is the capital project update. uh just to keep you informed of where we're at. So, we're currently in the process of creating a four-page newsletter similar to what we did in 2020 for the project. We're also uh creating a video that
we'll post to the website uh similar to 2020. Uh, of course, there'll be notifications sent out um promoting the capital project. uh we're looking at September or November 18th, right, as a forum after the board meeting and then also on the 19th um potentially meeting with the PTO. Um and we're also looking at a possible uh lunchon with a senior citizen group. Um and of course the um the vote is set for the high school on December 9th um which is the same time in the evening that the memes has a concert. Um and of course we'll make sure that that's well publicized as well including the digital signs in front of the buildings. Um and we'll have signs making sure that people know where to go to vote. Um and then the web page
will also coincide with the release of the newsletter uh for capital project information. Um any questions regarding the capital >> n >> project update? >> Thank you. >> Okay. Uh the next item I had is uh DESA's law which is a a new uh new regulations that are required by SED. Um and this is basically enhancing what we currently do with um CPR and AED. Um there's just some additional requirements. So currently we have 14 AEDs in the district. Seven are stationary, seven are portable. Um so we have ample AEDs. Uh and this came about a couple years ago as a result of um the Buffalo Bills player. Um >> Dear, thank you. That's what um caused that to go in full motion. So this is really the biggest change with this is um expanding
the CPR AED requirements which is now primarily looking at field trips. Um so the law requires that wherever the field trip is located that somebody has to be CPR AED certified as well as there has to be a AED on site. Um, so part of this process is we're revamping our field trip request forms to make sure that we have all the information and everybody's on the same page. It'll also involve some uh additional training. Uh we currently do have quite a few people that are CPR um AED certified, but we will continue to grow that number to make sure that we meet our demands, especially strategically with field trips, like making sure that we have grade level people go on the field trips. >> So it's not that the site has to have it.
We have to if the site doesn't have something, we can provide it with our field trip. >> Correct. Correct. I just I just know some of these places are not going to >> Yes. >> So, I just wanted to make sure we >> that we can provide we can bring one of our portable and have someone certified go on the field trip and that meets those requirements. >> Yes. >> Okay. Yes, that's correct. You're 100% correct. >> So, when we go overseas, well, we take adapters and things so it can always be charged and >> Well, you have the same question that our admin had. So, >> because castles, last I knew, don't have a ton of electrical outlets. >> Yeah, that that's a uh yeah, a question that still needs to be >> answered.
Yes. >> But you have this. >> Yes, you're Yeah, that was the first thing that we were thinking on. So, um so, um circling back, the law and regulations go into effect, uh January 20th of 2026. And just like uh and this also has to we have to amend our districtwide safety plan um which is basically going to be an annex to the end of the plan with the requirements. Um of course there has to be a public hearing. So we're looking at doing it that just prior to the board meeting on November 18th. Um, and then of course you have the 30-day comment period, and then that would allow the board to approve the plan at the first January meeting, which would allow us to make sure that we meet the legal requirements by
January 20th. Um, and then moving forward, obviously, it would just become part of the uh district-wide safety plan for the annual um public hearing review 30-day comment period that happens every summer. So, we need to also update the procedures for field trips to include this. >> Yep. We've already got that well underway. We've we've got some electronic um through schoolfront. We've got the um field trip request form that has all that information in there and questions uh that need to be uh answered in order to get approved to make sure that we meet all the requirements. Okay. So, we'll see that come through on a policy review at some point, I'm assuming. >> Well, the um the districtwide safety plan will be updated to reflect the new requirements. >> Don't we also have a policy
on field trips? >> Yes. >> So, that will need to be updated as well. >> Well, the field trip was review. Yep. Right. >> Yes. The same board approval take place with the overnight trips, etc. >> Yes. Okay. >> Any other questions? That's just law. >> No. >> Dr. Anything to add or Okay. >> Well, we had skipped over D, which was the board goals for 2526. Maybe put one of these at every place. These are the goals from last year. And I don't remember what group discussed them, but I thought we had said we liked them and wanted to keep them. with the change being that under the trainings we're going to change it to more um attending more county Boseies collaborative type meetings than what it used to be was understand the ins
and outs of the audit process better I thought we had talked about changing it to >> so the attached item has increased community engagement. So that's basically item number one. >> Item number two on the attached says conduct a community survey. And then item three is attend more trainings better in the so which >> no we didn't send out the community schools but surveys have gone out. I don't know how many more we want to be sending out. Yeah, I think this is like to think about all right for this like what do we want it to look like for 2526. I will say just for like food for thought for the board this year um Nikki had us through our like summer process at CIC for building planning. You might have noticed last time
that they each building has their goals focused three goals in three areas like a academic goal, a culture goal, and a future ready goal. So I just offer that up to the board if they want to consider like a if it's still three goals like it was last year. If one is framed around something supporting the academic program, something framed around supporting schoolwide culture and something around supporting students being future ready. That could be one avenue to have it aligned with building plans. Certainly that >> I like that >> we don't have to, but something to consider. So I would have thoughts We're writing. So I'm assuming we're thinking is that what's happening? >> I was writing down those three categories. I like framing it like that. Um and the academic piece for us could
could fit into the the trainings and the meetings that Boseis offers for sure. >> So more of our learning than >> that's kind that's how I took it or did you take it as supporting student learning? >> I would have academic I think students But >> I like the first one. We've done this for two years now, I believe, or we've tried to be more engaged with the public, whether it's they read something we've published or they get to come talk to us. And I I think that our community has appreciated that as well. >> I don't know if that would that fall into a schoolwide culture. >> I think I do. I think it would. and the future ready. Um could that be um our plans, you know, for supporting the the work that's
going to go into our building and both buildings. >> So the capital project. >> Yeah, >> that is definitely future. I I would think that would meet that. >> I do think one of the big pieces of the capital project is like thinking forward in terms of like what do we want our facilities to look like to support some of the programming we would like to build forward like in our music departments in our egg agriculture department. Um, I also think like part of being ready is like making sure that you're maintaining your facilities. Like it's not just the new, but it's like continuing to have like the upgrades and repairs and >> the roof before we have big puddles inside. >> Those things are important. >> And it also has to do with how
um our buildings support like the um inspire and um comm you know the whole community school framework and so and and the Wallace Foundation that you know that grant >> I don't know that we can take credit for that under our goals. >> No, but >> we can support you using the Wallace grant. >> I just don't know how like >> would you like it? >> I don't know how to make that. >> See, >> the supporting of the capital project and supporting grants and stuff. I try to think through these goals like how do we make that measurable? That's where I >> struggle because yes, we're going to support those like we've already put the budget the the vote date out for the capital project. Like >> so how do we this can't to
me like say we're going to support the capital project. Well, we've done our piece of it right now. the facilities committee will continue to meet once we get approval and things get far enough along the facilities committee can keep doing that. >> But we're essentially saying we're create a goal that takes >> credit for something we've already done >> and that seems >> well we can help with the >> the community >> promoting of the vote of the of the capital project. >> Y >> because that is not completed yet. So we can support the community's knowledge of it. >> Just how do we make that measurable to say yes, we've done it, no, we haven't, and have evidence of it. We could say like we want to publish something or we want to attend
a meeting. We want something we can present it at or >> I know we have >> we do have meetings coming up that we can have a board representative at >> so there's a forum coming up >> the forum forum the capital project is coming up. So like we can yeah I guess there's evidence of being participation or having participation in those items. >> Okay. >> So it's not so much the capital project but it's the promotion of the capital project with PR of the capital project. >> But there's a a lunchon each month for retired individuals. Can't think of what it's called. It's I think it means at the old secondary home church. >> Nine has reached out to them for us to hopefully like coordinate us getting on one of their lunch schedule.
So that would be a great thing like if a board member wanted to join myself and >> Revance, I would. She didn't share the date with me yet, but she needs to make sure the board their board is okay with >> and it's not to >> push aside I would say either way, but to give them the information that they genally go what is that? So, it's just an opportunity to put it out there hopefully in a way that they like it. But yeah, they're assess the assessor for the town is actually meeting with them for their November lunchon and so we kind of suggested that this is they kind of go hand in hand and they might work well together. So >> brilliant. >> They're going to get back to me by next Friday.
>> I can hear Shane. Anyone else hear Shane? [Laughter] >> Kids love when he does that. Okay, so back to this. We're going to keep number one. That's going to be our future ready or our schoolwide culture. The public forums. Do we need to hold it or can we attend it? Because there's already going to be a public forum for the capital project. Should it be participate in not necessarily we hold them but we attend them and participate in them? Look at you. You don't vote. You >> Yeah, I would say that >> because I also don't want it to be like that there's a public forum every five minutes and now we're not going to go to them anymore. They're not important. Like >> Yeah. I think if a top I feel like across
the you know across the year sometimes topics come up that are like clearly a public interest and I think if the board's willing to have like a little bit of flexibility around you know seeing this year like what comes to the forefront like I think that's >> we did a survey last around the open forum la the last one we did last year we allowed people to give up suggestions on topics are there any of those topics that we didn't discuss I think we I think we should look back at that last thing. >> Let me pull that out >> and kind of determine >> how many of those topics exist that we already know people want to talk about. Are they still issues or are they kind of not issues anymore because it doesn't
do any good to address them at this point. Oh, >> so >> we'll change it to participate in and we'll look at what's open and maybe schedule like for March >> actually put it on books. >> We can mention it if when we go to the forum in November or anything else. These are the topics we're going to cover. It's in this month and your calendar. I think before we decide what month we do it, we have to look at the topics because these topics were come up came up last spring and we're going to take a year to get to them. >> Well, >> what does that say to us? Say about our attentiveness to >> we can be working on some of those long before, but we can give updates on them. >>
I don't think all of them should wait until >> that meeting, but it could be. We heard you. We've discussed we're going to bring you back some updates. Okay. too. But I would like to get something on the books before we break like at Christmas time so that people can plan for it. A lot of times we go it's in two weeks. I think March is a we have a break so there's only one meeting in March which is why I was suggesting March. Okay. academic we're going to keep the attend more trainings because like what we attended had to do with the >> portrait of graduate which is about academics. So I think that could fall into there. So the trainings is not so much to do the audit but just >> improving ourselves
>> knowledge >> improving our knowledge base >> because how many laws change in a year how many things change in a year >> there's always something >> so to make it measurable to your point we want to say as a board we will have attended three and like we've already attended one. It doesn't mean the whole board has to go to it, but there will be at least three. Amber will be doing the convention. So, she'll hopefully be attending a few, but we can count that as one. She attended some as a board learn three things, enhance our knowledge on three topics. And then the other one was future ready and that is we are going to be promoting the capital project. Do you feel those are in line with the >> goals? Okay. And
I think like as far as the trainings go too, I think like um I'll be on the lookout like there's a lot of good things I think coming out right now between four county and rural school school boards that are like applicable to the academic programs and as we get those we can like continue to share them. >> And we don't have to stop at three. That's just our measurable make sure we learn on three. Okay. Sorry for jumping right a round making jobs hard nating jobs harder. Going back to consent agenda items. >> Could I is this where I can share something if I have something to share? >> Yes. Board reports. Yes. >> Yes. >> Okay. I just wanted to share that um on the 16th um the legislative committee uh met with
Austin Pants from Kristen Gillibrand's office. He works for her and we did it over Zoom because of the shutdown. And um I forwarded um kind of a recap of some of the things we talked about and some of the things that they're um working on. They've written letters to um Secretary McMahon and um just on the funding cuts um and specifically um IDA um and special, you know, involving the special ed cuts. Um he really um wants to be a support and would be willing to come and meet with the board. um and they just really want a lot of communication and also suggested that we reach out to um Claudia Tenny um as um she is part of the majority at this at this point. Um, so it was just a really for me
it was really interesting. Um, and I just came away feeling that um, hopefully that can be a positive um, resource for us. I was a mess and did not ask if anybody else had any other reports. Did anyone else? I'm all over the place. Does anyone else have any other reports tonight? Okay, now we'll go on to consent agenda items. Does anyone have any questions on consent agenda items? And if not, could someone please move it? I actually, if you don't mind, I just want to share, you'll see on the consent agenda items. Um, one item is to appro approve Michael O'Brien as a physical education teacher at Marian Elementary. Um, he sends his regrets. He could not be here tonight because he's coaching uh, girls modified soccer and they have a game tonight. But
um you know, we always try to share a little bit about the person we're appointing and I thought maybe a great way to do it for you this year um is to hear some of the BKC's that Mr. O'Brien has gotten already this year. >> Um so I think like these BKC's to me represent like why we're recommending him to be hired at the elementary school. So, first of all, he has them from an assortment of people like the school nurse, um, two teachers, a clerical staff member, um, an aid. So, a wide range of people who already have like I think recognized his impact. And I'll just read a couple of them to you. Um, the first one says, "September can be a busy month for special education teachers as we review IEPs with
different staff members. I'd like to take a moment to recognize Mike for starting the year with such thoughtfulness and care." During our meeting, he pulled up each student and school tool so he could connect their faces with the information I shared. He asked meaningful questions about the students and showed a genuine interest in learning how to best support their needs. for his first year of teaching. I was truly impressed by his dedication for learning about our students. As a co-orker and a parent of one of his students, we are fortunate to have Mike on our MEAS team. Um, another one, uh, Mr. O'Brien makes PE fun and engaging for all students. He consistently models appropriate behavior and ensures activities are developmentally developmentally appropriate, even at the preschool level. Recently, he went above and beyond by
helping an upset student get back on track. With his support, the student was able to turn things around and finish the class strong. Thank you, Mr. O'Brien, for your patience, positivity, and dedication. Um, and one more uh that I'll just share. Mr. O'Brien had a student that had quite a messy, bloody nose this morning and handled it so well. After taking care of the student, he came to the office to report the blood and ensure it was properly clean. His prompt but calm approach to the situation was very much appreciated. So, just some examples of like what he's being recognized um for by his co-workers. Um and I'm excited to recommend him for probationary appointment. >> Fantastic. >> So, do we have a motion? Um thank you. Second. >> Thank you. All in favor? I
opposed. Abstain. >> Motion. >> Public. Would anyone like to say anything or have a comment? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, just really quick for those who haven't gotten to see me in person. You guys approved me uh last spring. Um, I'm Brady Rogers. I'm sorry uh Claire had to leave us. Her sister's playing in the volleyball game tonight. Um I should have said something earlier but uh she was a little nervous and I was like I I'll get us at the end. So um either way um I am here uh hired on behalf of you guys. Thank you so much for that. Thank you for the opportunity to teach here. Thank you for the opportunity to uh along with Lily Lochner um head FFA for this year and hopefully years to come. Um thank you
for your support of the FFA and thank you for your support of the A program and everything we kind of are hoping to get out to here at Mary moving forward. Um, uh, Claire was not one of our two that make the goods for you, but, uh, she was, uh, ready to come and say thank you. And, uh, we just really approve or, you know, appreciate everything that you guys do for us. Um, and I'm happy to finally be able to show my face to meet all of you, um, after, uh, not being able to make it last spring. It's semi- similar to Mike um, to being nominated for probationary period. But thank you so much for everything you guys do and uh you know happy uh recent board appreciation week. So thank you. >>
Thank you and thank you for the treats. >> They will be gone soon. >> The kids are wonderful. Well, >> all right. Could we have a motion to go into executive session for the specific purpose of discussing the superintendent evaluation and goals and potential litigation? >> I'll move it. Thank you. >> Thank you. All in favor? I opposed. Abstained. Motion passes. We have one student. Bring up your paper. We will get that signed before we go to executive and then you can scoot out. You don't need to wait for us. No, this
