great snapshot of who she is as an educator always willing to go above and beyond how many times on those days when we had you know 40 or 50 kids quarantined with Shannon here making phone calls into the evening for us and you know she continues that even though now it's not covered quarantine phone calls technically it's it's more about making sure that students in her classroom get what they need every single day it's above and beyond and sheet in a large part is the reason that those students are so successful so I'm thrilled to recommend Shannon for a tenure and uh we wouldn't do the same school without her please so that we would like to recommend a board granting Shannon suzinski um can I get a motion I'll move it I get a

second a second all in favor I couldn't get it out fast I'm like okay so we asked you to come up come run the gauntlet congratulations congratulations um Debbie's not here right yeah um next we have another staff member we're going to recommend a 10-year floor in a different tenure area than she's currently tenured in because they're recognizing and looking through her records she recently moved back to a reading position at the elementary and we realized that she probably shouldn't have been tenured when she was a reading teacher before so we're trying to write um and fix what was done and uh with that I was going to ask Dr Lloyd if he had anything she'd like to say about Deb Schultz so I think most people recognize Debbie Schultz is the elementary for kindergarten

she's been with the district for 25 years um and spent most of that time in kindergarten but she has done both the reading intervention position and kindergarten in her time in Marion um she currently moved into the K2 reading intervention role this year um and is doing a fabulous job that's really literacy is Debbie's thing like she's passionate about literacy you would see that when you walked into her kindergarten classroom she has super high standards for herself and for kids and the kids do amazing things working with Debbie so she is a very data driven like I said she's passionate about reading and reading intervention she takes time to research best practice to implement that with kids she's an excellent data tracker and you know if you ask go in and say oh how's Amber

doing in Reading intervention like she can tell you all about all those students doing um what they're working on you know the progress they've made so you know on top of all that like Debbie is just a great part of the elementary school team she's an excellent collaborator um with everyone in the elementary building and really goes out of her way to do what's best for kids so I am happily recommending Debbie for tenure and reading can you get a motion I will move can I get a second a second all in favor motion passes congratulations and uh next I'd like to we're going to announce or make a recommendation regarding Mrs Melissa Levy who has been a special education teacher for us and is currently acting as a tosa um in the area of

mtss for us we've always been very pleased with their work and um looking for opportunities to use her skill set and her leadership in the most effective ways to support our students in our district recently we had a re or a resignation from one of our our CSC chairpersonal we look to see how we might combine CSC with MTA mtss to combine those that skill set which he has so today we are recommending that the board accept the resignation of Mrs Melissa Levy as both a special education teacher and a tosa so we have to do these separately and to approve her on a four-year probationary appointment as the new director of student support services at the Marion Central School District which as I said is part of a combination of combining what our prior

CSE chairperson did and what she currently does is through mtss which at least for the next few years is also a significant cost savings for the district but we also more importantly have the right person doing the right job for us and for our students we just let people know a tosa is a teacher I suppose be great in presentation I'm next um so a few weeks ago we uh came in here ready we're expecting to celebrate School Board recognition uh through a proclamation and some other things and you can see uh our students appreciate our school board as much as we appreciate our school board moving forward we weren't able to do it a few weeks ago because we had a couple board members who were unable to attend and we wanted to make

sure all five of them were here today to hear the proclamation and to be able to see the work done by the students to thank them for all their work on a personal note this is my last years of world Ware as a superintendent and I can honestly say that I've been blessed my entire time here with Mary's School Board I hear a lot of horror stories about school boards and how difficult some school boards are to work with and all I can say is our school board has always been very professional and very very student-centered we always make the best decisions based upon what's best for students and they've stuck to that throughout my time here and I'm extremely appreciative of that and for their support and our work that we've been doing so

I'm going to read this Proclamation it's very very small so I brought my glasses so the proclamation reads where each whereas each year school board recognition week is observed by more than 700 school boards in school districts throughout New York State and whereas our state's public education system is designed to meet the educational needs of all children and to empower them to become informed productive contributors to society and in an ever-changing world and whereas we continue to come back from the covid-19 pandemic school boards have worked with School administration and Educators to help them navigate students full return to the classroom within a learning environment that is safe healthy ensures Optimum opportunities for intellectual and personal growth and whereas members of local school boards are dedicated to Children Learning and community and devote many hours

of service to the elementary and secondary public education as they continually strive for improvement excellence and progress and education recognizing that all children can be successful Learners and whereas local school board members are strong advocates for public education and are responsible for communicating the needs of the school district to the public and the Public's expectations to the district by working closely with parents educational professionals and other community members and whereas the members of the York State School boards respond to the educational needs of the community they serve and help ensure the solid foundation of our school system in doing so these leaders helped strengthen our state's educational system and improve future prospects for our children and whereas during October 17th through October 21st 2022 special activities and programs will be held in communities across New

York State and observational School Board recognition week and it is fitting to join acknowledging the commitment and contribution of members of local school boards now therefore I Kathy hokel does that really me governor of the New York state do hereby Proclaim October 17th to the 21st 2022 as school boards recognition week please join me in congratulating our school board and thank you [Applause] and so next up we have the presentation which is an annual presentation of the district's counseling plan I'm here to do that for us we have Abby cantello Emily Johnson Karen Livingston who I must say is uh they put a lot of work into this so we're very appreciative of sharing the counseling plan because it is the the map we use to support our students nothing I got excited I almost

came in right before you for the board Proclamation I'm super excited to share with you the Elementary School counseling goals for this year um so tonight I'm going to give an update on the counseling goals from last year for the elementary school and then I'll talk about this year's goals so each year um I put together some of my school counseling data into a little report so I'm going to hand that out to the board members and admin um if you want to turn your attention to the very back page that is where you'll see the progress on my goals from last year which I'll also highlight in a minute all right so my first goal for last year was about our College and Career special area and last year was the first year that

we had the College and Career special area so just as a reminder it's for our transitional kindergarten through fourth grade students and there's three main topics that they think about in that special area they have a PBIS lesson once a month where they learn skills to be respectful responsible and engaged if they have a College and Career lesson once a month where they learn more about themselves and they also learn about lots of future opportunities and then they have a restorative or Community Building Circle once a month too and all of our students worked last year to engage in and reflect on their learning through the use of portfolios as you know so we did that in College and Career too and my goal was around that we reflected three times we had three portfolio

entries for a College and Career and um these pictures show some of our students work from their third portfolio entry where they were asked to draw a picture of themselves in one of the three feature Pathways that they had learned about so they learned about the military they learned about college and they learned about careers and then they were also asked to put worker characteristics around that picture that they felt would help them be successful that was one of their portfolio entries from last year foreign last year was about our tier two counseling groups we ended up running in total 16 counseling groups and six of them were for pro-social skills so things like being helpful being considerate being empathetic and compassionate and 83.3 of those pro-social groups yielded positive outcomes we know this because

we ask our teachers to fill out progress monitoring data for us so there's goals for each group and each week the teachers get a statement about those goals and they kind of rate their students behavior how they did that week and then we quantify that and we look to see if improvements were made and those are some first graders from one of my groups from last year and then my third goal last year was about communicating with families so I ended up sending home a newsletter in each of the report cards and those topics in that newsletter ranged from what the school counselor role is to Second Step outcome data and also health and wellness information and I also sent home an e-newsletter during National School counseling week to communicate with families last February foreign

last year's goals moving on to this year's goals for the elementary school um they're all either building upon last year's goals or they are about our building goals our combination of the two and they all are related to helping our elementary school students be healthy safe challenged supported and engaged my first goal for this year is about second stop and that's our social emotional learning curriculum that we use I'm hoping to further Implement that program so this relates to our second building goal which is all about the social emotional health and wellness of our students and to further Implement Second Step I'm going to provide some professional development to our staff throughout the year we're also going to Pilot we have access to the bullying prevention unit through second step this year so we're going

to Pilot that with some of our classrooms and then we're going to work together to reinforce and recognize students for using Second Step skills in language my second goal is again about the College and Career special area so I'm hoping to get some more assessment data on how our students are doing in that special area to see what they're learning and to also share what they've learned about themselves and different future opportunities that's one thing I'm going to work on and then my third and final goal for this year is about family engagement and that's related to our fourth building goal which is all about family engagement as well and this also continues some of the efforts I put in last year um with trying to communicate and connect more with families so I'm going

to continue sending home a newsletter in each report card about the school counseling program our mental health staff at the elementary school we're going to put together a guide that kind of goes over our roles and how we can help families and just communicate that out we are going to seek some family feedback on the school counseling program and then I also really want to work more closely with our families who have students that receive Counseling Services just to share some language and skills that we're working on so that they can transfer those skills at home and also make sure I'm getting family voice when I'm doing my calculator so those are my goals from last year and for this year I'm so excited um to keep working with our elementary school students and families

and to build and sustain our Elementary School counseling program so if you have any questions or feedback or Reflections I would love to hear them I will say that as anecdotally as a parent who has received your newsletters and your information I have felt very informed and I feel like it's been very helpful as a family getting to know and getting um kind of this two-way communication um staying up to date with some of these things with the students and I know my students are very much in need of your your work so it's a big hit with us awesome great job thank you I'll hand it over to Karen and Emily okay so uh at the Junior Senior High School we last year um had some goals uh but since I was out for

half of the year uh we had to just kind of say a quote Miss Johnson stepped up quite a bit while I was out so um so our first goal is actually a carry forward from last year um by September we will have um all students and families will have access to communication roadmaps specific to our counseling office we found this really important um going into last year because with a new social worker in our office and now even this year with the director of student supports um we we feel like this is uh really important for families to know who to go to um what our roles are in the office and how we can can serve them and help them um and this is something we'll even share with our staff as well

um by June we will assist the tier 3 team in selecting a socially emotional curriculum for grade seven eight and grades 9 12. um so we kind of altered last year our our goal around this um to be something more achievable um and we feel like a big role that we can do in in uh finding a curriculum is doing some of the background research um around a lot of the curriculums that are out there um and then presenting those to the tier three team which for those of you that don't know that includes admin School psychologists um the social worker and us um to then determine what curriculum we feel like is best for both the middle level and then the high school level as well and we really want that to support the

web program that we have started this year with our seventh graders so we essentially want to find that curriculum so that next year when those seventh graders become eighth graders we can carry forward what they've been working on this year and keep that going every year and then by August 2023 um we want a year-long process for implementing the Panorama Universal screener reviewing the data and responding to the needs identified um and this we we have found so uh last year was our first year using Panorama and there's a SEL screener in there um that we started using and we have found that we really need something um established like a real process established and you know this week is the week every single year that we are going to give the screener and um

this is what we're going to do with the data when we receive it how we're going to respond um because otherwise in the beginning of the year with all of the other chaos of the beginning of the year before you know it's October November and we haven't given the screener yet so um so we really want to kind of set that process in place so that we can use that going forward so those are our goals for the evening and if anybody has any questions feedback or Reflections awesome anything you wanted to add nope okay she's walking the ride Perfect all right thank you thank you foreign [Music] give a quick update on superintendent search we did receive applications report has reviewed applications and we will be starting interviews shortly um we were very happy

with the quality of applicants that we received so let me we're happy about that so um but the process is moving forward as far as um Amber and I both attended the news about conference um I'll let her speak for herself on that but I attended multiple seminars um and one about renewable energies and it was not as good as I'd hoped but I learned a lot about solar power I was hoping to learn about other stuff as well um but um and then I talked I did one on energy performance contracts what is interesting about the energy performance contracts is that they're done in a way that guaranteed that the cost for the project is covered by Energy savings um we've done a lot of energy Savings in our buildings such as all the

new LED lighting and things like that I did meet up I didn't run into our architect out there and talked with her a little bit about it see if there's anything she thinks we can still do um but for the most part we're doing our Energy savings as part of our capital projects so we're still getting the Energy savings we're still using that money to do other things with our district this is a different funding mechanism and it's a guaranteed Energy savings if you do it through that process went to one seminar about student advocacy Dutchess County has a program through dutches County Boces has a program that they worked with some their students on its this is the first year they did it but they engaged their students in looking at issues within their

schools and coming up with Solutions so one of what other groups focus on English language learners and how that group of students tend to be removed and not as involved in the district um they worked with the district so that most if not all the communication going out is at least English and Spanish since Spanish is their largest English learners I just kind of took in the process they took was they they talked to the students they talked to teachers they talked to administrators like they involved all the stakeholders within the school which and then they the students are the ones that presented in front of probably 75 school board members so that in itself that they were willing to sit there and and present and answer questions was pretty pretty neat um there's another

the other group of students that was there wanted to increase communication and the opportunity to talk about current events within their classes having that political discourse having that conversation that opposing views but doing so in a way that's protective of the staff because something gets said in the classroom what comes back at that teacher whether or not the teacher said anything themselves protecting each student and having it be a safe way to do the communication a lot of times even adults can't have those conversations so how do we incorporate that and they actually went through their board policies and suggested changes to their school's board policies on how to provide some of that protection and provide some of that guidance so it was just I really I thought it was very interesting that these two

groups brought these two things and they came up with these projects themselves um and then the other seminar sat through was superintendent contracts I figured I should learn a little bit more about that before we hire a new one but overall that's great um I always enjoy going and talking to other school boards sometimes you'll find school boards that have great ideas other times the school boards go yeah we're really messed up and we learned and I learned things that we shouldn't do so either way it's it's a helpful thing so um yeah a lot of the seminars that I studied on were around student well-being and school safety and um I really have to say that I really really just have to commend everyone who works so hard at this school um Community because

every um tool that was um implemented or program that was suggested as far as like social emotional learning trauma-informed care um even diversity equity and inclusion Marion's already doing we are already ahead of the curve and like we they're the conversations that span from the panels that I sat in um you know people were trying to pick my brain about what they can bring from Marion to their schools so really just a plus job on everything in our with our Learning Community because you know from our staff admin everyone's just doing such a great job to care for our students and provide a safe place to learn um the whole child um framework was a big hit with a lot of people as well and I got to connect with some people who were using

similar um Frameworks um and so that was really cool to see it kind of it's a thing that's kind of gaining more popularity so you know Marion's kind of a leader in the state in that aspect um I attended another seminar on school safety uh they didn't have much to say about um like violence at school firearm violence at schools but basically um it was recommended that schools focus on the fundamentals your you know do we have the right locks on the doors and window frame you know glass in the windows and you know do you have coffee pots plugged into your School rooms that they're not supposed to be into because that's how accidents happen and and they kept saying like you know any day could be the day that something could happen at

a school um and so your fundamentals your don't prop your doors open don't you know do the things that we are taught not to do because complacency is what you know gets you kind of um and there was a unfortunately I didn't bring my my notes so there was um a program the past program I believe it's called through the state um that's basically a guideline anybody wants that information I have it at home um I can email it out to anybody who wants it um and it's a list of guidelines and um mitigation tactics as far as like safety fundamental safety um and so that was that was a lot of really good information and it was um it was put on by a security company and um a manufacturer a man who was

worked in like safety Hardware manufacturing and um they didn't want to sell you anything they weren't there to sell us anything they were there to inform us on what they see are the problems and how to you know you're doing our best to make sure that these tragedies don't happen at our school basically um and then it kind of just boils down to is everybody doing what they're supposed to do as far as safety um so that was really encouraging too because I feel like we have like Rob said like in our capital projects we address you know these kind of things it's an ongoing um project I guess um and then there was another panel [Music] um oh something else but it's going to escape me at this moment so for the next week

yeah I guess I am um but yes so but it was it was really great it was my first um convention and um like Rob said it was great to connect with other boards it was great to see what other schools across the state are doing and it was really encouraging to see what an awesome Community we have here in Marion okay thanks any other board members okay we'll move on to superintendent yeah the two topics here that I just really want to feel out the board and see what your thoughts are on these topics um the first one might have come up before but um we had an inquiry it was a casual nothing solid but in Aquarius from someone who might be interested in purchasing the old bus garage outside any thoughts on

that um we tried to there's a pretty big process to be able to to sort of public asset to a private individual if it is a big process Aries thresholds it's only one person is so previous board member one said something that has stuck with me which is we we can't make more land we own it we have it it's not hurting us but it's it's ours we need the space we have it and that stuck with me that was my first year it's been a few years but he had a very good point because we tried this we were talking about selling the Orchard and he said making more land that connects to the schools the other thing is this is right up against our Elementary like it's we can control that if we

want to right now I'm not for getting rid of it right now but it costs us money what's this to maintain it you don't do too much maintenance to it no but there should be more done there should be but we don't we just utilize it for storage right now is that correct pretty much pretty much yeah it's got a lot of the old furniture that's not being used it's got a lot of the stuff from the musicals it's got a lot how do you know what this is it it is enruction the reason I you know because I know we had this conversation before and now that Michelle said that but um you know when we looked at how much it was going to cost just to put a new roof on it question

and that's something that's going to have to be done if you want to keep it going because otherwise everything else inside is going to get really wrecked um so at some point we got to commit one way or another because the bus garage might decide for us that's no longer going to exist again it's just because someone brought it up to me and I'm like okay I'll just run it by the board and see what they think because yes there's a cost and we want to make it last long term and actually use it for a solid storage thing probably require a significant cause I know the last individual that inquired or the last organization in the aquarium which is the ambulance group and you know there was some minor stuff to transfer from municipality

to municipalities so to speak but the upkeep And the fact I didn't want to be able they didn't want that investment they wanted it basically made pristine and then transferred I remember correctly I mean and that was difficult yeah that was kind of hard to the AC wasn't working so a little more than that yeah I don't know I know that there's a lot of stuff in it you know something that's been a good joke or their weekend on trying to organize it fit a large portion of it as an Eagle Scout project so um I I don't know I I'm torn because again it it's almost to a liability standpoint as opposed to an answer so burn it until we need all the stuff that's in it oh wait did I say that loud

I don't know there's a good chance we don't need I mean outside of some of the set stuff yeah I mean those desks in the chairs and the things that are in there have been there for 15 years or better I remember moving them the first year I helped with the set at the musical we moved them around and get stuff out we moved them back around and put stuff back in so and it's the same chairs it's the same stuff because I don't think we're going to pull them back into a building chairs and more desks and more I will at the elementary level we've done a lot of swapping with coved actually like swapping individual desks and tables like we've done back and forth with this bird and like time has actually been

super patient but I can't think of anything that's in there long term that people are like oh could we have this back like I think about like now things like whiteboard tables like things that wouldn't be in storage are now like the types of furniture that like our teachers prefer because it's easier to work with students or smaller size or easier to arrange same I mean we utilize the give and take quite a bit with covid and where we had a lot of flexible seating kind of the creative you know different shape desks went back to a lot of traditional desks which were pulled from there and some teachers have wanted to get their flexible seating back which you know Tom and this group done and other teachers have wanted to stay with traditional desks

I would say at this point we've kind of hit a we're not seeing much give and take anymore when we do regences in the GM do you use desks from here or does they come from the storage the classrooms up front what is used if it needed because they're using it so then we have to make the decision to start maintaining the building and we've got to do something capitalized at least roof doors yeah there's a lot of security wrong with that building paint job wouldn't hurt it is like eating towels we're at the point where right you know your engineers are going to tell you that electric should have been replaced years ago we got a DCS coming up at 23 so okay yeah we can get a good idea so for what I'm

hearing is that at this point the board's not really just say yes go ahead and sell this building well I don't have a salad off here but even just to market the concept I don't think yeah and it's the little kids too right there offer how crazy that's a lot of expenses um any other talk or discussion on that um the next one is um in my opinion a little bit more urgent we have an opportunity due to funding from the our government right now to expand our Universal pre-k program to provide full day upk to all of our students the discussion actually came up what we were having a discussion regarding future budgets because we're trying to be ahead of the game knowing the federal funding is going to go away so how do

we one strengthen our programs into you know make sure that we have a upk program that impacts all of our students so what is considered full day ubk five hours I think yeah for three-year-olds three year olds four-year-olds you know I think that's too long um are they is it really any different than kids that go to upk program then go to a preschool after the fact if it's structured properly I don't know I'm trying to bring a kid in if the whole point of it was to start to socialize them they might as well just be coming to school that's not what I thought uba was designed to do I can see extending it a little so what is it like two and a half hours right now three and a half hours give

them some more time but five hours long time in building that little three three and a half hours why wouldn't we have more teachers if you're bringing them in all day you're going to get more teachers they have to be here five hours but yes the funding would it's not even completely funded now but to move to full day K it would then be full day or fully funded including the Tas and the teachers that would pay for the whole thing oh wow the reason it's a little bit more urgent is this appears to be at present anyway that the last year they're going to offer this to new people to move to full day up I would say that most districts are moving to full the upk um I mean I I hear what

you're saying Michelle but I've had experience in two different districts where we had the same conversation around kindergarten because when I was at Pell map there I have to take kindergarten while I was there they moved to full day and we have parents so that's too long you push them too hard and I can tell you because that's the principal within three weeks every parent requested their child attend full day kindergarten I would in a heartbeat and then I moved to then I went to Penfield same thing happened they went from half day to full day same thing can't keep them here all day it's not right within three weeks everyone was in full day primarily because you can do some things you can't do what I have to right now it's transitioning which takes

a long time you know get your little kids get their coats off doing this doing that try to get a quick less of them get a snack at them and then next thing you know the bus are line up and pulling them out of there whereas we do stuff like this they could engage in some of our other programs our extracurriculars our specials um you know my personal opinion is it's a stronger program it would meet the needs some of our students because some of our students uh that we've had coming into our up program um and could have could use extra support let's put it that way you want to you know I was just going to ask you would you mind if we yeah if we query the address not to put down

any of your experiences I because I'm looking at opposite Michelle I'm thinking it opens up a window to accelerate kids so they've got to start it in kindergarten and then we've got a better rolling chance moving forward so I think we said that's what upk was in the beginning we were going to get them all these supports and all these things and some things are not happening so we're bringing them in more so they're not home more so they're not with their parents more so that they're not getting more like I don't want to make it a longer day of nothing sure and as a mom I don't love my three to I would have been three years old at that point going in for a full day anywhere Dr Lloyd so I can tell

you like some of the things date putting out like this funding opportunity but they're also putting out a ton of like early childhood professional development so including things like how can you structure a full day program so um it's it definitely does not look like a five-hour academic day I think that's one thing that would make parents feel better um they're very intentional about how they give their recommendations to structure the day so things like making sure kids have like two like gross motor I mean you could call them recess times but gross motor play times throughout the day that they do have academic chunks but there are things more like literacy based read-alouds that then lead into like a fine motor craft activity um it is definitely not like the hard driving academics I

guess that some people think it might be um in fact like you know the big studies that have come out recently have said that upk programs are focused on academics are not successful like they have diminishing returns over time so really it's a shift to more of this whole child type of framework and ubk um I am actually hoping that some of the things you brought up like over the past few years with half day programming we've had a really hard time getting providers to come in to work with our uppk students my hope would be that by having full day programming we can have more of those things in-house like possibly like a co-taught upk section where you know students could get some of those early intervention supports that they aren't able to access

currently because we could provide some of those in-house by having additional funding and a full day program if we have the additional funding could we look at hiring someone rather than having someone come in to work with our kids could we have our own person that works funding just have to look at the funding because preschool funding is very different in terms of the county you know pays for those providers to service because their cpsc kids so that's what we're talking about kids that have get special ed services as a preschool child if they're a Marian employee then the Marion taxpayers or are paying it we can get some reimbursement with County but it just adds more complexity to it so you just you just have to be careful in terms of which budget stream

and what the impact will be on on program um you know I think it's also important there's going to be many parents out there who feel like you do that parents know best in terms what is best for their child and whether or not they'd be able to do a full day program or a half day program it's just more and more research is supporting that implications for Readiness for where we want students to be by the end of you know primary level is that these preschool programs are positively impacting especially with students who may be economically disadvantaged the um the language that they have access to um you know so some of our kids aren't going home to their parents for the rest of the day there are many parents you know kiddos who

are going to child care or something else and they're not getting all of that wealth of development that they might be able to get so it is it's just like kindergarten technically is a parent decision you okay would be because we have full day does that mean that every family in Marion who has a upka student needs to send to send their child actually look we do partial and the funding won't allow us to have one option to be partial day in one helpful day and it needs to kind of be a full day or to take advantage of funding I am not enough today but having my two kids our experienced with Pre-K was during copen both of my kids wearing pre-K in coveted times um so not being able to have that support

of even the two and a half hour day as a single parent as someone who's economically disadvantaged as someone who um you know kids have a number the adults in my house um and then also having a kid who was I have one who is naturally inclined academically and I have one who has been on early intervention and I had how hard I had to work to get my kid my youngest from the early intervention needs to you know on grade level uh was really really hard and having the support of a full day upk program I mean I'm the stress like I can just feel the stress lifting off of my shoulders and hopefully we can this is something we can offer our community um to also help with families who might need it

I think how we structure the program would be very very important you know you wouldn't want you know PowerPoint presentations all day or anything like that you know yeah three hours time but um I I couldn't I couldn't I could I will stand on the rooftop and shout it if I have to this Marion deserves this so I'm going to ask a couple other questions unprogrammed unprogrammatic though impact on Transportation impact on cafeteria lunch schedules those kind of things have you guys had a conversation is that manageable are we over taxing our current I mean Transportation should be a windfall right because you're going to lose the bus run in the middle of the day yeah you'll lose it not that I want to I will start drivers out of anything I'm just saying though

might be a benefit although it doesn't intermingle those kids more with the older kids are they well would this still be an offset yeah we could still keep it separate okay you'd have to and then I guess cafeteria stuff that kind of stuff is that gonna have we thought through the challenges that way do they currently do like us with us it seemed doable when we did it during covert the snack is certainly doable it's just them knowing ahead of time um to be able to find out well we have space in the cafeteria we can we can make oh yeah oh yeah we eat in their classrooms just because it's so much you know having those kids go up for their short amount of time and then come back down um but current in

our current lunch schedule there's definitely space for them to be added in would they ever do but nobody wouldn't press it to give us more time to process it but I as I said it's like putting in place a full day upk programs isn't something you can do overnight there's applications to fill out and perform spawn because you do have to get approved to do it um and then there's working through all the other logistics but um it's one of those things one is I already said we it actually started off um how do we keep our program strong and do the best we can for our students knowing that we're going to lose all this Federal funding and this was one way to do that early intervention as Mickey pointed out the research is

really clear the sooner you get to the students the sooner by the end of third grade they have to be a grade level World and so one more bite of the app 1K is in my opinion uh strikes in this program but do they change any of the strings associated with their life like is it still the same requirements are there additional requirements if we accept if we go this route so the application process apply for roughly what we have per grade level which is about so we apply for 50. so we get the funding for 50 students if you only have 46 you would be prorated for those for the six but if you would under apply you never get more well you you can particularly but so we have we have the requirements

that we operate under currently are there additional requirements or they're different like do they up the right are there additional game you gotta hit this check mark this chart and we just gotta keep there longer okay yeah it's basically the same program it's just a longer more it's a full day whatever full day program looks like compared to a half day program the doctor so again I think I understand what Rob's hand was like for funding at the current level that we have you know to get that Grant is our curriculum requirement and then if you go to a full time does that Cricket requirement off additional requirements that is going to impact Us in other ways besides just being able to offer you BK full day other than just ensuring that we have three

dedicated classrooms available full day and three teachers and things to go along with it okay the other thing I sorry the other thing I think of too is our current half day UPA program we don't have all of our American students in that program so how many students are going to outside full day programs whereas if we had it in-house now maybe we can get those students back you I I think it's a good move knowing what I do of other parents that send their kids to full day preschool programs already I don't think it's I think it would be good to be able to bring them into the Marion School District system to be able to assess where they're at and have that continuation from you keep from this preschool program up through versus

how to go to a place in Enfield and then they come in here in kindergarten we have to assess we have no idea where they're at things like that just I think it would be a good thing to do we have to take action what do we uh no more just give us the go ahead to move forward so Michelle has some reservations but I think you got four of us that's not just the length I want if it's because we separating Services don't use the services yeah otherwise what what my kids were in upk it was very hard to get the services because they weren't in the district very long and they weren't home very long and getting it scheduled with the county was a pain that's why I was going to tell you

if this is covering the teacher expense as well I understand because the county because that's taxpayer money that we would then have to transfer to our school taxes versus County taxes we're not okay but we are not paying a ubk teacher if it's covered we've freed up some money this benefits 50 kids a year but but we're giving up the county funding that comes into our community like you're not gonna it's not gonna change your County taxes I think is Rob's point you pay x amount to the county for them to provide services counted by we don't utilize those Services you're still going to pay that amount of money for the account right and we're not utilizing them because we're not getting them that's well I understand that but I think it's hard to get

them I I think part of the part of what we're saying though is we open up the schedule it may optimize the ability to get those Services Under the into the district right and be able to take advantage of them as opposed to us hiring the same service provider and put them on staff here and make them me in this building or a certain schedule you know does that make sense I understand what you're saying but I disagree okay I think it's a good use of the month sorry for saving on the teachers but we like right now I don't think you're gonna you're we're getting 80 percent of the update program funded correct about approximately Rich yeah so you're paying we're paying 20 of the teachers salaries wages whatever right now if we can

go to full time get that full benefit yeah we're gonna save 20 20 it's I don't believe you guys can correct me the problem but is that enough to cover any the full gamut of services you're going to need to provide no not even close no cover the cost of the teacher in the aid what is Dr Lloyd pointed out this there are opportunities for us to combine our Resources with County resources and perhaps offer a especially a preschool program that would otherwise require them to go elsewhere they might be able to come to us and so they could start out in their home school district and not have to transition and because we do have OTS we have ptas speech we just got to make sure that we have enough to cover that but

again the research will tell you it's way better off to get those intervention supports than than they are in third grade and just so everyone's clear said PT PT currently we get our P2 Services through BOCES so we share with Williamson we share so it's a K-12 currently our would not be able to do any as it is right now because they're a K-12 provider through BOCES they can't do any preschool physical therapy because they're not insured to do they're only insured for K-12 so if we wanted something different we would have to change that Arrangement but because to make sure that he said PT July good to know yeah it's good to know what concerns to watch out for if we push forward for sure that's all I have to move on to Director

of Finance and operations capital projects there's there's nothing well there's one major significant item and that is the scoreboard they were out here last week they came with a drilling rig that was designed uh they had to go down 13 and a half feet through bedrock took them two days to four or three holes but they were able to do it the columns are up so it's now curing so hopefully next week we can actually get the scoreboard installed so that's the biggest significant news since two weeks ago our last update um we did attempt first shift that lasted a week the noise complaints were there so we're back at second shift but the second shift is moving relatively quickly on the rooms so that that's on the same Pace they'll be done by February

probably I have a question on that should we budget for first shift or for cycle shift because second shift does possible there's it's a bid project so once it goes to the contractor that's up to them to determine it doesn't cost us anymore we already got to fix the number so I told him we have to be a third shift and I'd still be centered during the construction family I know it costs more for them to come in later what was that going to do but again too if they get it done in a third of the time or half the time the overall cost to them should be aside from that elementary school they're working on the tiling in the hall once that tiling is done then if you finish the flooring to transition

to the other finished areas the counselors have leave Ms Walkers moved in I think Ms Rosa is in the process and then I guess can't tell will be shortly right soon any questions I was just gonna say that thank you for the letter summarizing the change order skills um 131 000 on this project of Traders is actually very small that's for an existing building with a lot of who knows once you open it thanks of course I would like to see Zero but I'm also realistic and I'm in this field and the percentage it's 1.29 percent it's just hard it would have been anyone who wants it up which is actually a pretty good change order rate so what are your contracts from 10. you should be in today's world yeah there's a lot of

unknowns and a lot of uncertainties and contractors are really watching typically what's in the contract because they're getting hit with change orders from their vendors and they don't they have to somehow make up that money that's the easiest way to make up that money okay I'm speaking as an engineer you just wake up that money you just find something that's missing on the drawings and charge for it so well two percent contractors justifiably if they work to pay for it to begin with aren't going to pay for it shouldn't have to eat the cost either so but I I think the 1.29 is pretty decent for the for existing buildings and everything we opened up and the unknowns associated with it so I just wanted to point anything else on Capital okay well it's hard

to believe but we are at that time of year again where we start talking about budget um so the budget development calendar is included in your board packet and of course the calendar follows you know what we have to in terms of dates uh the one thing I would like to ask the board is last year we switched to the budget committee that met a half hour before board meetings so I just want to touch base on the board to see if we want to continue that same model I would say we open it up for the community if we have people interested in it then I think that's a good idea it allows if nobody says they want to be involved in it then we go back to doing it the way we did

it the year before we just talked about it in the Lord at meetings it was about this time last year when I sent it out so I'll send it out again community members can respond their staff or whoever wants to be part of the budget and then as long as you're okay and there's no other issues and hopefully I'll get some sort of response within that before the next board meeting and then we can approve the development okay and then set the schedule yeah uh then any questions on the budget calendar uh the next item I had a tax collects report so typically our schedules this year were a little bit off usually we meet like the second Monday in November which is usually when we do the unpaid taxes that get turned over to

the county it's November 7th so literally this is hot off the press because we had to allow for time to make sure that anything that was postmarked was uh came in was processed so we are at about four percent of the tax levy which is actually great about where we usually are it's fairly consistent from year to year so this gets turned over to the county and the county is to make the district whole so it's their job to collect the unpaid taxes with the additional finances typically rates what they use is they'll take this on an individual basis based on the schedule you give them and they apply it to their County taxes correct and then they make us hold they make they write us a check they make us and then they collect

yes through the county chestnuts Yeah so basically our cool so someone doesn't pay their school tags basically they just add that to their County tax and make them pay it there someone else's problems unfortunately yeah so during the month of October if they didn't paid during September there's a two percent penalty if they don't pay in October then it gets turned over to County and there's an additional five percent that goes to the county and then the district gets the teacher okay thank you any any questions on that okay all right the last item I had uh wait do we ever take action to approve the taxes no questions report it says that on here we do yes sorry yes oh okay that's accepted so that we can subscribe can I get a second a

second all in favor aye opposed that motion passes the last item I have is the financial report so I have some very positive news to report this time so I don't know how many people have noticed the number of commercials on television lately regarding Medicare so Aetna MVP United they're all trying to take the market share from excellus so as a result excellus became very aggressive in trying to maintain their business so our Medicare plans decreased by 60 percent oh so that means for the second half of this year we realize that 225 000 saved so if you look at the financial report the bottom line and the other signed balance is about 225 000 increase that is why can I get my person for upkana [Laughter] oh I will remind you that last year

uh for the actives healthcare went up 22 and it's expected to go up 10 to 14 for this next year let's just celebrate the moment we got a small business and decrease seconds so I'm happy to report that um so if that continues so that's just for six months because it's effective January 1 it goes through June 30th so um they already told us that they guarantee that they will not increase the rates by more than 10 percent for the next few years each year so there'll still be a significant savings potentially up to 450 000 dollars for the next week report [Music] give me anybody have any questions on financial reports can I get a motion to approve them I guess second all in favor um passes they are approved it's the last thing

on your list did you have anything else I think I'm good okay I'm to administrative reports why don't we start out with Mrs Miller just got back from Chicago so as you mentioned I was lucky enough to get to attend First National Conference for actually for healthy kids where I got to go and present on Marion's full child plan so it was a conference with unbelievable keynote speakers and just getting to talk with like-minded individuals um talk about how to better meet the needs for children in school in terms of being healthy so that they're able to learn and um we've got some really good feedback on our plan and that we use it for school Improvement a lot of different visuals there just kind of piecemeal their their Wellness things where we're trying to

do a holistically so um the action for Healthy Kids people I actually had the development the development term something and their CFO were actually in my presentation and they a lot of questions and wanted to invest in the they have a coalition of schools that meet because they don't have very many rural schools represented so they're excited to hear more from us so it was definitely worth getting to go and um you know in a lot of the things like farmed to school or that's a big program I actually got to meet one of the individuals who sits on the national um committee a lot of the gardening things that we're doing um healthy movement and nutrition you know like you mentioned we are doing a lot of already really good things for kids uh

other stuff that's that's happening um as is this money that we got the educational stabilization fund um there is going to be a series of audits done during the 22-23 school year we were um luckily chosen to do a desk review opposed to the other two options which is much more we're right there with you as you go through things so we're excited that it's a desk review um we are in group C so we will start that process in March but there has been a series of um documents and things released some webinars so that we can start pulling all of the things that we're going to need to show so we had to hurry up and get our plans ready with a little information and now they want lots of stock that goes

with plans that we have to be able to show um the state and the federal government in terms of all of the money that they have given us so this will take a considerable amount of time um to do the desk review uh we will have from March 13th to May 10th then they'll go through and decide what if any corrective action plans we will need to have done and submitted by summer so that will take a chunk of time this year to be able to do that uh just to be you know open and honest that we still have a few kids that we don't have placements for um in terms of special education both these programs are still very hard to get into so we have at least three students that we are

unable to play so they are currently pending placement and tutoring so that getting those tutoring programs effective for them um but now with Melissa Levy helping to do that I'm hoping that um it'll ease some of that and just working on that special education stuff trying to juggle that as we're waiting for our new way to handle it and this is the time of year for uh State annual reports just that have been due so that has taken up a lot of time part 154 is due which is the um students with um English as a second language that report is due and this year we had to report on Holocaust Education because the Statewide mandatory that we have to report on so those of all benefits that we've had that's been my life Dr

Lloyd all right at the elementary school um obviously it was just Halloween that's a big deal at the elementary school so I feel like a lot of the things that we have to share from that Elementary are just nice because it it just feels like we're coming more and more back to normal and being able to do things with families and as a community so our PTO is back up and running and they put on a fantastic Halloween party for our students um we had a great turnout at that event and it was a combination of games and crafts and costume parades so that was a really fun event and you know lots of Kudos and things to our PTO for putting that on for us um we had back our traditional K2 Halloween parade

with families to you know line the hallways while the students walk through and it's always so fun to see everybody in their costumes um we also have started our mini camp so that's something that we started last year and are continuing this year so we have a fall winter um set of offerings that we put out and we've had 149 kids sign up just for this fall early winter set which is awesome so it's really cool like I feel like there's some really unique offerings this time that kids are taking advantage of and it's just a great way to see kids really in something that is interesting and exciting to them you know something that's outside of their normal academic day um and then this week we are bringing back our Veterans Day celebration at

MES so it's exciting to see that come back and Mrs Steiner and I were just talking that's like our first legitimate full school assembly since covet so it'll bring us all together for the very first time since pre-covered times so it's like a big deal for us so we're excited to have um you know some local veterans come in and um honor them at our Veterans Day ceremony one okay so um another thing that happened in October so for Halloween is when we we celebrated our PBIS celebration so in October you may recall like we're not doing a year-long night note goal but instead focusing more on acknowledging students when they follow the behaviors that are associated with the lessons that they're learning that month so October the lesson was around putting forth their best

effort and our students did an excellent job with this and so um we celebrated on Halloween with hayrides and cider and donuts to recognize them and their efforts I can't remember exactly how many they earned for specifically putting forth their best effort but I know we have around 4 100 night notes total so far this is weird which is really like hitting the ground running and so in November the lesson is focusing on like accepting others so the acknowledgment is around what things like including others in your play working well in a group using kind words and so that's um also happening now um and will carry us through November and then in December we'll have a new lesson uh and then in both buildings we celebrated Red Ribbon Week in October so there was

theme days and um videos and announcements and things that students learned in to engage in healthy behaviors we also had some Partners from Community agencies come in and have a table here in Premier Senior High building at lunchtime to engage students in kind of some learning around healthy behaviors as well and so it's keeping without switch here's the Junior Senior High so it seems like so long ago now thinking back to the beginning of October but that's when our eighth graders went on their field trip to the Wayne County Career carnival at the fairgrounds and it was a great time the kids went so they have like all these vendors and the Barns and kids go from vendor to vendor and just engaging different Hands-On activities so they were like um for like a barber

shop they had to try and shave a balloon and they were able to participate in like some massage therapy activities they did some like um manufacturing type things there's like hammering contests and so it's very Hands-On very engaging there's a lot of giveaways the students had like backpacks little like string backpacks full of all the giveaway things um and they had a really great time in addition to all the like career exploration activities they uh also incorporate just a lot of fun so there's like bounce houses and fun things to do during lunch so the kids had a great time um and hopefully learned a little bit about themselves and some of the different career options available in our area um so that was fun I was also gonna fill you in on web but

I think I'll wait because next month I think you'll get a wedding presentation or if not if not next month it's January so I'll let hopefully the kids can fill you in on that um and then the other thing that is standing out for me in October is our band in choir choir concert um so band choir show choir jazz fan did their fall performance and it was spectacular like those it brings tears to my eyes every time they do such a nice job they work really hard I think all their effort shows so I'm always looking forward to the holiday yeah coming up soon um I was fortunate enough to attend the seventh grade Albany trip this year so Mrs Steiner and I think turns uh and it was a great day the kids

we did Howe Caverns first on the way down and then we did a boat ride on the Hudson which was really neat that's an addition since I last went last month on that trip so that was really cool uh the kids loved it I think they enjoyed the dancing the most on the boat rack but there's also a lot of Education about the Hudson which I really enjoy um and then we stopped by the Corning Tower they got to go to the top of the Corning Tower and um then we did dinner in an Italian restaurant in Albany and headed home and you know I think the quote of the day for me the student I was sitting next to on the tour bus as we pulled into the boat tour set are we going

on that you know looking at the boat and I said yeah that's what we're doing and uh he said oh man I'm so glad I came I wasn't going to come I'm so glad I came so you know it it's a great reminder that our students don't always get those experiences and it's just such a great day for our seventh graders um recently Mrs lochner our bag teacher and our FFA president Rebecca Van Camp went down to Indiana Indianapolis Indiana to be exact for the FFA National Convention so part of having a great egg program and being part of the FFA is that we get to represent ourselves there we were not for any awards but they joined all of the New York teams that went down so they traveled with the New York teams

and some of the New York teams did win Awards so they're excited to keep keep pushing and be in that top tier of FFA programs in the future uh junior high are instrumentalists and choir students we had four Representatives at Junior High area all state recently they were Ashlyn Maynard Emma Whalen where you can defend and Aiden Rittenhouse so that was just this week they did a great job representing the winnings and sectional playoffs for fall Sports have have really recently come to a wrap just this past weekend cross country athletes ran in their sectional race Karen Meyer took 11th out of 95 runners and Michael sir papa took 16th out of 95 Runners and as a team the Sodus marrying team took uh eighth overall so that was a great showing for our cross-country

athletes and Coach Pfeiffer said that Aaron and Michael both had some of the highest or I should say lowest times for ninth graders so that's great the future is bright there uh boys soccer unfortunately lost in the semifinals of sectionals but but made a great run and uh gave Freud Creek a really tough game red Creek one on the win the sectional championship uh girls soccer lost in the quarterfinals but also made a great run um had some tough injuries along the way but lost in overtime there in the quarterfinals great season there volleyball unfortunately lost in the first round but had a great season and really gave a very strong Perry team a run from their money in all three games so that was a lot of fun to watch them um let's see

football finished just outside of the sectional playoffs but our our athletes that played on the Newark team had a great season tennis uh gananda Marion tennis team Larissa who plays with us from gananda went to the state championship and in golf both of our students were invited to the section of qualifier so all in all a very successful fall season and we're really proud of our student athletes so kind of dovetailing a little bit on Mr Dean talking about the the successful Sports season we both huddle cameras are now up and running and scheduled and streaming so we're actually we're able to pick up um actually the the home sectional games for both the girls and the boys soccer we were able to be to get those streamed to the YouTube channel so we're good

and set for vet for basketball um and that's all again built an area to go from a tech department standpoint of one of the challenges as this year has gone on with the the speed of the capital project is every time we move a classroom we're moving the classroom and so it's not just moving the desks but it's all detect gets moved you know overnight and so trying to keep up with making sure teachers have what they need the team has been incredible with checking in with everybody and making sure that they've had what they need and it's you know because they're going to a slightly different space so sometimes connections are a little different it's just you know that's been been a just a little extra along top but they've been done real well

with that we're in the middle of uh Benchmark season for junior senior high school so preparing tests and templates and I've started getting data back to teachers um so they have that timely you know data to be able to start making decisions and instructional choices and but other than that that's about it for us happens I know the board members have any questions or comments on the consent agenda items can I get a motion to approve them all in favor all right um or any Community comments on non-agendo items or anything we did talk about that you know besides one that's nice come together okay uh we will move on to move into can I get a motion to move into an executive exception I guess I can also our favorite aye okay any of

the students who are here that need paperwork signed off um so you can see the administration
