001over communicating it was a little redundant so try not to do that a little bit I know Marco is going to talk about some of the events at the high school in a little bit as part of high school leadership and one of the things I was going to talk about is the wall of Honor ceremony but but I do have to mention you know last Thursday we had that ceremony 16 new inductees but I just I want to thank Mrs zaweski and Mr Smith for putting on a wonderful and fitting ceremony for our veterans and families it really was a great ceremony it takes a lot of work Ms Bieber myself were happy to pass on the Baton and they really they just did a fabulous job and I know that that matter Tech

002tradition is going to live on for a long time so thank you very much and on that topic Mr petretti I just want to mention it was awesome having a former Alum you know on this on the screen talking about her experience here and what the wall of Honor meant to her so thank you for that too good stuff I wanted to announce that the mcta Turkey Trot is back on so good stuff Mr Farrell the race is going to begin at nine on Thanksgiving morning you can register online at running up.com or on Thanksgiving morning you could just show up and register if you get some out of town guests show up and you they feel like going for a run on Thanksgiving morning they can sign up at 7 30. again the proceeds

003uh for this event benefit senior scholarship the senior scholarship fund which goes to our students um cast as well as this year the Dylan Newman forever five fund so I'm happy to see that's back up and running it was uh certainly missed by the community this evening the administrative team is going to be sharing with the board uh their updated goals I'll share with the board the updated District goals and Then followed by the other administrators representing their buildings and departments the Board of Ed will have a work session on December 1st where we will update the board goals which will be presented to the community at the December Board of Ed meeting um again we did a good job in the creation of our goals last year and they were done with a lot

004of vision into the future so it is a tweaking and just an upkeep of our goals and a check and an annual check-in we are going to be entering concert season very soon um uh Lisa will send something out to all of you uh we have our fourth grade concert on December 6th the fifth and sixth grade concert uh will be on December 8th and then junior high will have their concert on December 13th the high school will be on December 14th and then on the 15th we have our Board of Ed meeting that Thursday night so it's a busy time but always a nice time the holiday season to come out and see everybody we usually get a lot of alumni at that December 14th concert as well uh shared with the board that

005the annual legislative breakfast is going to be on February 4th at Longwood um so if you are interested in going this is one of our board goals from last year uh if you are interested in going please let Ms Bieber know and we'll make sure that we reserve a spot for you also I want to share with the board that on December 9th at 11 30 our njrtc unit will be holding their annual inspection at the Southold high school gymnasium uh so that is a Friday morning at 11 30. uh the unit has extended an invitation to the board and if I know that you guys have jobs and lives and careers in a jury duty and all other kinds of crazy things going on but it's one of those events that if you can

006find the time to attend I encourage you to do so it's just our Cadets it's it's really impressive and I go every year and every time I walk away I'm impressed so it's something worth catching absolutely that was December 9th yeah yeah um so I also wanted to inform the board that last week the superintendent I met with the superintendents of South Holden Greenport we had a meeting to discuss our combined programs both academic and athletic we've had a lot of success over the years you know in the programs that we have combined in whether it be njrtc or athletic programs uh so the conversational you know also dealt with how can we further uh expand you know and work together to provide academic programs for our students and acknowledging that our enrollments are dropping

007across the board and that it'll be more and more challenging for us to to put forth you know robust programs with adrenaline enrollment as part of that conversation uh you know in conjunction with BOCES we talked about potentially housing a carpentry program here a tech program something that normally our students would have gone to Riverhead for in the past it's no longer offered at Riverhead they only offered at Brookhaven geographically that's too far for the students on the North Fork to participate in so with the renovation of our space I've met with Mr Lynch in counseling uh start scheduling wise it would work where we could free up that space for half the day and potentially run a BOCES program out of here where students from neighboring districts could also send their students with that

008success um I'm hopeful that maybe that will grow in some of the other North Fork districts could potentially begin to house some programs that are not offered in Riverhead providing more opportunities for our students so I'm meeting with folks from BOCES on Monday they're going to tour the facilities go over the plans for the renovations and see if it meets their requirements for a tech detective program based on everything I've looked at I believe that it absolutely does so hopefully it's something that we're able to to move forward with um Mr worm is is going to discuss some of the athletic classification changes that may potentially have some impacts in some of our combined programs so when he's done with his goals tonight he'll brief the board on that conversation it's going to begin to

009be a conversation on the North Fork so we want to inform you folks now about some of that stuff this morning uh as I often do on Thursday mornings I was reading through the Suffolk times I don't know if any of you folks had a chance to do so um but I discovered that one of our 11th grade students um Misha yokolansky I think I pronounced it right okay not bad um she actually was the guest spot writer this week I had no idea until I was reading the paper um so Misha wrote a great piece uh entitled pulling the future of the class of 2024. in her article she stresses that voters are not born but they're made and that she and her classmates will be the next generation of eligible American voters it's

010a great article she writes about the importance of our U.S history Civics and government classes and teaching students about our American democracy and the importance of informed passionate voters that actively participate in the Democratic process Misha also shares how she pulled many of her classmates she admittedly said it wasn't a scientific poll but you know she did pull her classmates as future voters and found that most didn't tend to exercise their right to vote in 2024 and that they believe that their votes do make a difference she also found that many of her classmates not follow the news the candidates or the issues maybe as closely as they should um and she also found that her classmates had a wide range of convictions and concerns some of these concerns and convictions centered around whim's equality

011abortion climate change inflation mental illness awareness the rights of gun owners vaccination freedom and mandates as well as government support of disadvantaged black and brown communities her takeaway was that she believes that her peers reflect a voting Force um which also reflects the opinions of the left the right the center and that they deeply care about these issues their communities and their common future and she also notes that there is much that her peers their families teachers and the community members must do to fully prepare her generation in order for them to be successful in order for them to successfully fulfill their civic duties so I was certainly hit with the feeling of Pride as I read the article and also a little sense of Duty you know she kind of calls us out in

012the in the article it's in your packets it's a great read but I I was real proud of her this morning as I read that article um throughout the board committee reports you're going to hear mention of some of the work done this past month to make sure that our students staff community members and our facilities are as safe as possible while maintaining an appropriate productive learning environment but some of the highlights of this past month include a nicer training which is our insurance carrier provided and training for school districts on emergency preparedness that was attended by myself Mr delagi Mr Kelly and Mr Smith just talking about how you prepare updating your policies every year you had new staff are you updating them on your policies as people retire are you properly replacing them

013and so forth so that was a good training uh Mr Spath and I attended the seventh annual Long Island New York City school safety conference this was sponsored by the Long Island New York City school safety directors and supervisors organization that was in Huntington uh so he and I went to that together and kind of got some insight on what some of the other districts are doing again you know some of the larger districts they they have like a small army of security staff very professional that was a good experience for the two of us um on our super dance conference day it included a district-wide training facilitated by the Suffolk County Police Department on active shooter training so that was all faculty and staff were exposed to that training they did a nice job

014with that myself along with Chief Flatley of the South Hill Police Department attended a meeting of all East End School superintendents and police Chiefs which was coordinated by Eastern Suffolk BOCES and really the purpose of this was to make sure that everyone's policies practices and trainings are aligned as you know oftentimes East End districts are supported by Suffolk County PD and these sand districts also support each other whether it be the police departments or the school districts and you know the police Chiefs leposies know very clearly that they all train together and they all train the Suffolk County PD in best practices on how to respond to active Shooters and things of that nature so kind of walked away feeling a little bit more confident I know that we have a great relationship with Southold

015PD um and uh you know I'm very confident with that relationship and the things that we have in place uh on Veterans Day we opened up the Junior Senior High School to the South hold Riverhead in Suffolk County police departments so they utilized our facility to do a canine training um so again any opportunity we can you know to open up our doors and get local law enforcement uh you know in the buildings are familiar with the buildings and then it benefits their training we want to continue to do so um and then we also uh along the same path but a little different we received an update from bus Patrol that's the company that monitors the cameras that we put in our buses you know the stoplight cameras and so they gave us a

016report from 19 from 2021 uh so on our district buses there were 160 violations that year with the majority of those violations happening on County Road 48 in New York and Main Road so the North Road and the main road obviously uh quite a few on school grounds as well um folks passing you know buses that are stopped where they're dropping off uh but so there were 160 tickets given out last year and that they're just like 250. they hurt so um I'll be curious to see if those numbers drop a little bit as people begin to get these tickets okay Sean uh perhaps uh did it break down how many on 48 versus 25 it does the the roughly remember what that was where did you get sometimes no um there was a higher

017rate on 48 and um and I'll pass this down it would actually give us a map that shows us where they are uh there was a high rate well that's what it is it's the divided highway a lot of people do not realize yeah they used to be years ago signs on 48 that said you must stop post-op school buses from either direction and that was posted on 48 I haven't seen those signs in in many years yeah I don't recall ever seeing them but if he could make a make a copy of this yep we'll send it out to you folks but um yeah again that's you know that's that's really just a snapshot of uh what's been going on but um you know I think it does highlight for the board how serious

018we we do take security here you know it was a major Focus this month and uh it's part of our goals and were there any close calls with college passing stop school buses yes we uh oh yeah then we uh recognize we recognize some of the other yeah we recognize a bus driver at the end of last year that really good credit was saving a kid's life where the bus was stopped on 48 and the person passed on the right as the mother was right there you know on the shoulder getting ready to get the child off the bus it's something we should be thanking our bus drivers for the the job they do and they carry a precious cargo now we we're we're in good hands I mean whether it's our district bus drivers

019or Sunrise Bus they do provide us with an excellent service and very very caring bus drivers um now I need the high school leadership update [Music] so good evening for those who don't know me my name is Marco kalis and this year I'm serving as high school executive board president a lot has happened at Mattituck over the last month for our seniors we participated in our day of service on October 25th our tradition Mr betrayed started a number of years ago nine locations in the community participated by allowing us a chance to give back personally I volunteered at Stanley farms in Southold there we spent the day picking bell peppers before the season ended we then took crates full of peppers and donated them to cast not only did I enjoy my day on the

020farm with friends but it was a great way to give back and support the community last month our school social worker Miss knighteger organized the annual mental health awareness training this training took place at Cutchogue West and taught students how to become mental health advocates the training focused on healthy ways to cope with depression stress and anxiety at this training I learned to identify the warning signs of mental health conditions and have to help friends and family who are struggling to seek help Miss knighteger also made arrangements for Sheriff Toulon to give a presentation to high school students he spoke about his upbringing childhood as well as the importance of facing adversity I was impacted by some of his personal stories and challenges he faced throughout his life and how he overcame them and as

021Mr Richard said earlier last week we hosted our sixth annual wall of Honor induction ceremony on Veterans Day 16 Mattituck alumni were added to the wall bringing the total number of plaques to 144. at the ceremony we honored these men and women who served our country and our Junior High play was on November 4th this year the play was Aunt maggoty's dark and stormy night it was directed by fellow senior Connor Liddell and organized by Miss Chapman they collected non-perishable food items as for admission and donated The Collection to the local food bank for the holidays so far we accomplished many great things over the past few months here at Mattituck and I'm looking forward to what the rest of the year has to hold thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving thank you thank

022you [Applause] okay building department building department and District goals Department reports and sports team update so all started off you know again as I had just mentioned this is an update of the goals that we created last year last summer uh the summer of 2021 the administrative team Dove deep into creating uh goals for the district as well as the buildings and departments it was a thoughtful process and it served us well you know we reflect back on them on a regular basis and kind of helped us go forward and the teachers went through that same process last year they'll be again updating their goals as well uh but once you do that heavy lift and you keep monitoring it becomes a little easier to do so again all of our goals you'll see words

023and lines coming out of our mission statement that was done purposefully to put into our goals to make sure that all of our work is always going back to the mission of the district so the four main goals district-wide goal one to promote the physical mental and social emotional health of all students K-12 uh goal number two is to consistently Elevate curriculum and instruction goal three is to continue to enhance our family and our community connections and then goal four is the fiscal responsibility end of all that so when we do our goal work this is what it looks like it's a combination of our goals the vision of that goal what our priority areas are you know what are we going to focus on and then where does it align to the mission statement

024and so we're all going to go through all of our goals tonight but we're not going to get into the Weeds on this we did this last year with you but I just wanted to give you a snapshot of what that work looks like so for goal one um the promoting physical mental and social emotional health of our students our priority areas are strengthening our mental health initiative with collaboration and training really beginning to align what we're doing making sure that we're not doing things as single episodes that they're purposeful and that they're aligned uh in our programming we're also looking to improve data collection on student physical mental and social emotional health uh and provide support and resources for wellness initiatives at both buildings based on the data and what we're finding so this

025is ongoing work through child study teams um and then also we have a a wellness addition-wide Wellness team that's that's following up with that as well in regards to elevating curriculum instruction so we continue to review our current curriculum and making shifts last year was a major lift in math uh grades three through eight that work is now down in the primary grades uh and again I'll let alone speak about the curriculum and the things but again we're looking at our programs and our initiative support to support the instructional goals of each providing professional development and training to support those programs so we're not just implementing programs or buying curriculum we're making sure that their supports in place so that it's implemented correctly and we want to ensure that our students are on track to

026graduate and are ready with learning experiences that support future 21st century skills those skills keep changing as doors as does our student body and that keeps shifting how we're working towards those goals in regards to our family and Community connections um again looking at the district website it's something that we want to keep updated and a good source of information but also acknowledging that we live in a world where people don't often go to a site to find their information that they like that information pushed out to them so we continue to use social media platforms to do so consistently looking to increase attendance and family engagement events we've had better success at the elementary school than we have at the secondary level that's an ongoing Challenge and it has been for years uh timely

027and accessible communication and then continuing to look to strengthen our Community Partnerships with local and state representatives and community-based organizations and that's happening on a regular basis you know as I shared with you that you know working with the neighboring districts to face over future challenges that's just one of the examples of how we're trying to accomplish this and fiscal responsibility again first and foremost is the development of our annual budget as a yearly goal but also in play is the implementation of our five years facilities plan which we continue to look at our capital reserve our repair reserves and our annual budget to do these things next month I will be giving the annual update on The Five-Year Plan where we will have a discussion about where what are our next priorities and also

028projected what can we project we'll be able to afford to do uh in a little while I'm going to do a presentation on solar we are back on that topic um and I'll be presenting to the board to kind of determine whether or not this is going to be a component of our Five-Year Plan going forward and I like to make a decision about that tonight or at least have food for thought so that we know by next month whether or not we're including that in our plan and going forward with it so those are our district goals I'm again now I'm going to ask that the the building principles followed by our directors present their goals foreign and and good evening everyone our goal work last year was intended to be a two to

029three year commitment and the vision Remains the Same with some adjustments being made for this year to go forward uh tonight I want to highlight some of the action steps we are taking for each goal the first goal to promote physical mental social and emotional health last year was the creation of the building level diversity committee or the recreation of the committee this is a group comprised of extracurricular Club student leaders staff advisors of those clubs community members Administration and what we discovered was that this group aligned very well with our mental health and wellness initiative especially the student leadership work so far this year Ms Niger presented a suicide prevention program to staff at the opening of school we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month back in September October had Unity day which is a spotlight

030on anti-bullying initiatives National Coming Out day was October 11th as Marco mentioned Sheriff Toulon presented his story of overcoming adversity that was to the entire student body on November 2nd and yesterday Marco along with his peers they presented a mental health Wellness training they gave that presentation to the High School faculty and that focused on anxiety and of course we are continuing to push uh to align the Breakfast of Champions with the mission statement I went backwards sorry uh to align the breakfast Champions with them with the mission statement our second goal is elevating curriculum and instruction of course a major part of this goal is the renovation of this of the stem wing with renovation comes the evaluating of the program having the program aligned with the creation of the new space and those

031meetings have have been taking place even though renovation doesn't begin until late spring we'd still have the return of basic carpentry this year now Mr petratty did mention the the BOCES part of that but we actually have an elective running this year high school level elective 14 students uh have elected to enroll in this class and learn more about carpentry skills small engine repair welding Robotics are also stem electives that are showing solid enrollment another action step of this goal is to look at data and make necessary adjustments to all of our programs much like the stem discussions those meetings have also been taking place during the first two months of School Mr petrotti mentioned the math and vision program which expanded into eighth grade this year there are changes coming to U.S history Regents

032that is something that that department is looking at we're having meetings to look at how to utilize staff as we balance the lower enrollment with staff with staff retirements and we are reflecting on the first year of AP Capstone while we prepare to launch the second year which is called research that's going to be launching next year in regards to the electives this is this is actually a nice transition into our third goal the family and Community connections one of the action steps that we wanted to improve was having student leaders use their their media skills to promote school events and programs the students are currently working on two video packages the first one will highlight our various electives this is a video that guidance is planning to use when they begin scheduling students for

033next year the second video will promote our clubs our extracurricular activities we'll be able to use both of these videos when new families register at MHS they are promotional tools that we can use at parent nights such as 7th grade orientation and we are targeting the January board meeting to unveil these videos during Marco's leadership update and Mr patretti did mention parent Knights and participation those parent nights that's another area of focus this year during the covet pandemic we shied away from parent presentations we're bringing those back this year uh our first one will be two weeks from tonight December 1st Ms neidigger Ms Stewart and I will be presenting the dangers of vaping to parents I'm also in contact with Sheriff toulon's office in regards to a parent presentation about social media and cyber

034safety this is a parent night that we have had before however it's been some time since the last presentation and we recognize that both of these issues are affecting students at younger ages as well so we will be opening up and inviting parents of the upper grades of Cutchogue East as well and that is a segue into Ms Brennan and cutchog East thank you Mr Smith um and good evening everyone just as Mr Smith shared some highlights with you I'll share the ways that at Cutchogue East we are taking action towards our goals for the first district goals at Cutchogue East our goal is to promote and support the physical mental social and emotional health of students and staff um some of the ways that we're doing this this year involve using our Wellness room

035our classes visit the wellness room on a regular basis we have a calendar that everyone uses so that they can come in and take a moment to practice some mindfulness maybe some yoga and sometimes the room is used for other things like our celebrations or morning meetings sometimes we'll join a couple classes together in there as well our walking path we've been using our students have been the in gym class walking miles across the walking path as they calculate how you would travel across how many miles it would take to travel across the United States we also have a meeting coming up with our student leadership regarding the use of our walking path and Ms Solomon and I will be meeting with students to get their input on ways that we could really Implement effective

036means to use the Walking Half for students that would be meaningful for them we also have been implementing morning meetings with all of our classrooms at Cutchogue East all of our teachers are using the book responsive classroom and teaching children to care as part of our SEL program and we've implemented the morning meetings where every single classroom has a morning meeting and it also involves another staff member so another faculty member will join with that classroom teacher and the two of them will lead the class in their morning meeting each day we found a lot of positives have come out of that for instance our special area and support teachers are developing different relationships with more students getting to know students in a different way and then we're also seeing some academic and some others

037practice kind of skills that our kids are gaining from the activities that they're doing in the morning meetings we're supporting the district's mental health and wellness curriculum and the monthly themes for example in October during that month we recognize students who were demonstrating acts of kindness to highlight tonight we're continuing to con improve our academic areas in math and literacy our kindergarten through second grade is in their first year of enVision Math and we're really starting to see our students engage in mathematical discourse and mathematical thinking that's strengthening their understanding in math they're working towards teaching and learning in related to the New York State learning standards um grades three through six is in their second year of implementation and envision math as well and K through two we're reviewing their fundations program this is

038our phonics or phonics based program that our students use in kindergarten through second grade we're reviewing assessments that they're taking and we're also reviewing the implementation and the the way that we integrated into our literacy blocks in school we're supporting our literacy initiative by continuing our literacy and math coach she has been working with our teachers to develop pacing calendars in literacy so last spring before we got ready for the school year she was able to develop comprehensive pacing calendars in Literacy for reading and writing workshop and also for math for each of our math programs to ensure that we're aligned to the New York State learning standards this year starting in January we'll begin our report card committee at this point we're really starting to put together the committee which will involve of all

039members of our new stakeholder groups and that will start in January and we're monitoring attendance again this year where we're just looking to see when students are absent frequently looking into how can we you know find ways to support them to ensure that they're coming to school and ready to learn for goal three we're creating opportunities to Foster transparent and collaborative relationships between school and community some of the ways that we're doing that at Cutchogue East is around family engagement and workshops for example we had a workshop earlier in the year focused on literacy we had various Community organizations visit like the libraries in Manchester catchogue and mad tuck I'm getting them wrong now new Suffolk and Laurel and then we also had Cass joined us that evening and our school resource officers also came

040to that event and presented to our families on ways to support um the internet and social media and things like that with their student with their children um in this this year coming ahead we're also looking towards a family math night what will involve students as well so the literacy night and our math night last year just involved the parents and coming up in the late winter will be having a workshop on math but it will involve students as well so parents and students families will be able to come up enjoy some learning about math and then learn some strategies and things that they can do with their children as well and learn more about our math program so those are the ways that um at ketchup East we are experiencing our goals and different

041highlights and right now I'd like to introduce Miss Alana Finnegan who's the director of curriculum instruction and innovation while I'm waiting for Alana could I just mention Miss Brennan case people don't know that I so enjoy the Facebook spotlighting of your classrooms to watch the student engagement going on like in every classroom on different days is really really really really impressive so I just wanted to say yeah I mean I have to say that we've done it Mrs Springer has really been instrumental in getting that on going on on a regular basis for us teachers are submitting just ordinary moments of things that are going on in their classroom and what's nice is every week we're able to highlight a different class so it goes straight around great thank you I appreciate that no I'm

042I'm with you I think you know I love Cutchogue East with all my heart and every time I walk in there I just feel so good so the literary Pumpkins this weekend and I feel same way about the high school Dave [Laughter] [Music] so in my roles as a director of curriculum I'm here to support the administration as well as all the academic programs of the district so you're going to see that our goals are aligned and very much the same we work together consistently frequently separately and together to ensure that all the work that we do K-12 is aligned and connected and dynamic so it's it's a lot of fun working with this team and I think we're doing really great work so as far as looking at District goal one the might I

043particularly write and look and apply for grants that support um the fiscal on physical mental social health um so mostly around funding so I meet with the buildings we meet with the staff and say what are your initiatives and then I look for ways to fund and support them through grants that are specific for those so that's my role with that first goal obviously the second goal is um my favorite and um a lot of what you heard in the buildings aligns directly with what is here and I think you know if I looked at some of the academic priorities you know you need to know that when we prioritize we use multiple measures to determine them we look at performance data guidance data there are demographics and our needs and Trends in education and

044what we feel um students need to be successful later on and that really drives of what we go so right now we're always looking at our graduation rate we want to ensure that what we're doing really that could stay in school and that they're ready to move on and um one of our big initiatives is preparing for the Seal of Civic Readiness and we don't always look for just Advanced coursework we're looking into other opportunities for our students in addition to a normal traditional path right so that could be a pathway of stem it could be a pathway in Career and Technical educational opportunities so we really want to make sure that we don't put every student treat them the same and they all have the same exact program to go to so we work

045really hard on making that well-rounded we're going to continue as you heard before work with K-8 literacy and math our Advanced coursework you heard about the future AP courses that we're going to build on and continue and work with new Assessments in science and social studies and I think some of our work with stem is going to be extensive and impressive I think we already are ahead in a lot of ways and moving in the right direction and the work in the future is going to really um I think going to impress many and is going to be really good for our students and then we really want to continue to the Extended Learning program that we started last year we're going to work with that we'll start that in January and offer intervention programs

046outside of the school day with Transportation so it's accessible and that in the summer as well um so that's in a nutshell and some of the work we're doing and family and Community connections is we're working on really articulating the curriculum and the scope and sequence in a way that is accessible to families to understand and that takes a lot of work because when we started doing that we realized we had to ourselves make sure we were all on the same page so I know Amy is working a lot with that with kachung East I'm really articulating that with that in the high school working on the course descriptions and really their course guide and whatnot so what the it's a it's kind of on hold but it's on hold for a good reason on

047the website because we're really ensuring that what's up there is really aligning to the practice and what's happening in school so that's to come and the opportunities for family learning I mean we are trying I'm just going to say this now like we're we are hearing people we want to have a family Workshop but the attendance isn't always that much so we want parents to come in we want you to experience what um your children are experiencing and we hope that you know we are offering opportunities for you to learn and um that's pretty much it thank you thank you and now I have Mr warmuth who's our director of Health phys Ed and Athletics good evening when we met as an administrative team and decided what our goals were going to be for district-wide

048it it immediately got me excited because the promotion of physical mental social emotional health is right within our wheel The Wheelhouse of health and physical education it's what our goal is as a department as independent teachers of those subject areas and what I talk about um and I have talked about before in health and physical education is really creating a balance among the health triangle and the health triangle is simply the physical mental and Social Health Combined is creating a balance within those and getting to the point where we're connecting with students to understand that when all of those are within balance we are we are within balance and everything can can advance in a way that's positive when one of those things is a little bit off then we can't be our best selves

049and move forward in the learning process we're in our peer relationships or with our academic studies and so on so because they were so this goal is so heavily involved in exactly what how the physical education is about in the academic setting um we just move forward in providing daily opportunities for physical activity and then as you look through these bullet points the things I want to really focus on are that we're looking at the development of social emotional learning strategies that encourage students in their peer relationships their responsible decision making their self-management their self-awareness and their social awareness and that more so now than ever we're looking at SEL from a health and physical education teaching standpoint and department and making conscience conscious efforts to embed those strategies and ideas within each and every

050lesson so you'll see in the elementary school physical education setting where there's mindfulness mindful moments to begin a lesson and then there's the activity and then at the end of the lesson there's some review and breakdown and debriefing along with some more mindful moments to get kids back into ready to go to the classroom for the academics right so there there's we're really making that effort to to put all those components together and identify how it is that we're feeling among our peers how we felt in the in the activity and then taking those experiences and learning what triggers me how do I cope with them in the moment and how do I move forward and be successful for the rest of the day so those are the things that now I think even though

051they've been the standards for physical education and how now there's really conscious effort to meet all those components of the health triangle in each and every lesson we think about health and physical education independently I think our mindset automatically goes to what's our physical health right how are we feeling physically and not now we're really intent on focused on not only on the physical components but what are my mental and social and emotional components of of everything that we do and how do they impact me throughout the day one of the things that I'm most proud of right now is the is the action that we're we've been taking um really steps towards his the health and physical education Department's collaboration with Miss Allegro and the PPS and you know we've we've set up and

052we have ongoing weekly mental health Team meetings where awareness discussing strategies and students and how can we meet their needs with not just the two of us or just the teachers in a silo it's a complete team K-12 where we can really work on strategies and then Implement them within the classroom so I look forward to the rest of this year the work that's being done there but already you can see a positive change with what just with within a communication so that we're all knowing and what what are the needs of our students and how do we address them from a standpoint of curriculum and instruction um I think what you're seeing right now and what you will begin to see is in the new course catalog we're looking for ways to extend the

053learning opportunities in those areas so hopefully we'll be able to look at some electives that kids are interested in student driven that relate to the increase in physical education and health and then be able to incorporate SEL standards within those I've always been very proud of the opportunity for our kids to have that daily physical education especially in in our elementary school they do have physical education three days a week which which is not only a state standard but it's a standard that we should be very very proud of because not everybody does that even though it is a state standard but we do do that we have a k-6 health curriculum very few people have that but we've found the importance of that program and we have it embedded with a very good and

054strong curriculum K to six um we we definitely are using technology in our classrooms you could see you'll see it in physical education classes which is a big shift um but it's one that's very positive and and definitely kids gravitate towards the use of the technology within those settings at the high school level we've completely transitioned to a more student Choice driven curriculum where students have an opportunity to choose what it is they're interested in and the teacher adapts to those opportunities so instead of rolling out the same 10 units annually and continuously doing them the students have input now which then increases some of some of that personal motivation and and some of that participation in general is increased in our high school physical education programs I'm proud to say that we we have

055about a 95 participation rate in every one of our classes which if if you know about high school physical education throughout the states of County the state maybe across the country you don't get that in a lot of places I'm very very proud of that of our students and our and our teachers as well and now we've started to really incorporate student fitness goals on their own setting those on goals their own fitness goals and their own personal goals um and then working and and keeping track of how we're achieving those goals when it comes to communication um I'm proud to say that right now miss uh malcina and I who's my assistant in the guidance office are working with family ID to um improve our family ID Sports registration where there'll be a variety

056of translations within that program where the user on the user end can pick their own native language and right now we have it set up for um at least Spanish to go live by the spring season and then we are adding about four or five different other languages currently with that with that company to translate all of our all of our programs and and from the user side so that everyone will feel um capable of doing that in their own native language so that's going to help us out a lot um our neighborhood liaison Mr Marias myself and the nurse's office I think have joined this great partnership right now where we are able to reach so many different families where we couldn't before through just the collaboration of one another and really being on

057top of those the needs of our students when it comes to sport registration or physical education or health education from a variety of perspectives um I can't say enough about our high school nurse or about Mr Maria's and the work that we've been able to do together so um you know those are our the health and physical education goals and I feel like it it is what we do and those are our standards we've just now made conscious efforts to focus on the SEL component within the health triangle and and health and physical education do you want me to go and sport or wait till the goals are over and then come back um you're at the podium okay all right so Mr petrotti talked a little bit about uh New York State classifications and

058how it is going to impact our Sports programs moving forward so New York state has created What's called the sixth classification in in many of the sports that are offered um throughout New York State and how does it went from a five classification sport to a six so the state has added a triple a double A all the way down to D and how that's going to impact us is the classification numbers for what classification you compete in are going to change and kind of move us into a different category at times for the sports that we participate in alone meaning just matatuck only we're not moving too much we might go from uh from a c to a b like in girls volleyball where we see we move up to a b class but

059our like components are moving our opponents are moving in those areas as well so it doesn't change us too much in what we do independently what it does change is when we are combined so and specifically in the five score classification Sports which we combine in girls soccer and we combine in girls softball those are the two that are going to be impacted greatly so we do combine with South Holden Greenport in both of those Sports in the new classification numbers we move from a b classification and competition to an a classification a classification will range from 400 population and I'll get into that for a second but um if you have 408 students to 705 students within your your range then you would become an Asian well how do I get to those so

060your beds numbers are taken there you have 9th and 10th grade and then the average of the two create your classification number for matatuck 292 is what we have for our beds numbers for next year I believe these numbers I have like numbers all over my head sometimes when we combine we take a percentage of the enrollments of Greenport and southolds bed numbers of their ninth and 10th and the average of the two when we add those together it puts us at 452 students that moves us into an a classification for competition where in this year's five-year classification we stayed a b and we would have stayed there if they didn't change and add another classification of six so we move up to an a school the a schools that range from the range I

061said 408 to 705 you can imagine what schools then we would be competing against and no longer competing against the schools that were traditionally competing against it just makes the competition that much greater so our relationship as combined teams is very very good um and I only bring this up because it does change and it does present different possibilities that we should take a look at um one not greater than another there are just possibilities um so you know it is something that we're going to talk about um the the superintendents of the three districts and the three athletic directors we're going to look at those possibilities and what are they what exactly are those possibilities we're going to look at what are those what are the challenges what what do we think is the

062best move for the future um you know I will say that the re prior to the two percent tax cap there was criteria for when you combined and when you couldn't combine with other sports teams and there was a specific number if one school or the two schools combined if they could each let's use the sport of basketball for example they could each have a jolly it goes back a long time so it might if my number is a little off if you can remember this I believe if each school could provide seven players of their own they could not combine they had to have their own teams the two percent tax cap and and it there was standards throughout each sport that said these things 23 was a football number I remember that because

063I I was coaching football at the time and we work a binding then we had to split where I was coaching football so 23 was the number for football if you had 23 and I had 23 we could no longer combine you had to get you had to separate the two percent tax cap came around and they said the criteria is over this is strictly Financial now if you need to get together to keep teams then get together we'll get rid of the criteria but the philosophy and idea was remained that if you could do it on your own you really should try to right so that's an old philosophy we got through the tax cap and a new philosophy has created these kind combined teams but now we're in a different position so we

064just have to explore what are those what are the options what are the possibilities and then how do they impact us directly and what do we want to do as a community what do we want to do as a North Fork community and how do we how do we manage this and is it sustainable so um you know I just wanted to make sure we have at least some understanding from the beginning Mr petratty and I will work together with the other districts and I'm sure we'll report back um very soon as to what what it is we're thinking about so Mr worm is one of the the reasons that it's just speaking is so that people know that we're aware and what's going on how will that communication continue so that the people on

065the sidelines aren't you know having their own conversations or at the dinner table right and and you know that is taking place currently because everybody knows it's there okay right and so it's the elephant in the room we know it's there now what are we doing about I I think once the three superintendents in the athletic directors meet and we discuss what direction maybe we we're we're thinking about going then we'll be able to give some clear um really concise information about that and take a stand as as a North Fork Community as to where we think we might want to go but um it's not something that we're going to do independently I think we definitely need to involve some stakeholders in this process and you know it it sounds like oh it's in

066we can make this decision and that's is not that we live we we've been here before it's it's it's emotional and it's it's not easy right thank you thank you thank you I'd like to introduce my friend and partner at this point in um Miss Allegro because we have been working collecting I'm happy to be here tonight to share with you the goals of the PPS Department throughout my brief presentation you will see that the goals of the PPS Department are intertwined with the goals of both the Junior Senior High and the elementary school and that much of the work towards these goals is already underway our first goal is through increased communication and ongoing training the PPS department will provide opportunities for students to engage in practices that will improve their social and emotional

067mental health so some of these are the things that we're working on and some examples are are you know with our mtss work that work is already underway our interdisciplinary committee met twice this year already and we are in the final stages of developing a handbook that will outline our practices and procedures related to the different tiers of interventions at our last superintendent's conference day all staff was trained in the desert strengths assessment screener and we're looking to implement our first screener prior to the winter break as I've mentioned before the duster screener is a strength space assessment and the items query positive behavior rather than maladaptive ones and it will help inform our work in creating a strong SEL program as Greg mentioned our mental health team has been collaborating with the phys Ed

068and health department and one of the outcomes of these meetings is that we are currently helping some of our students promote Morgan's message Morgan's message goals are to help eliminate the state stigma surrounding mental health within the student athlete athletic community to expand the dialogue and normalize conversation around mental health to equalize the treatment of physical and mental health and Athletics and to empower those who suffer in silence and support those who feel alone as we move through the year we are looking to bring Nami presentations to the Junior Senior High School Nami is the National Alliance on Mental Illness these presentations are focused on changing attitudes assumptions and ideas about people with mental illness and additionally we plan to survey the students to see what areas they would like to focus on and what

069areas they would like to learn and grow in our second goal is given opportunities to collaborate and participate in professional development with faculty and staff our department will build their expertise to meet the needs of all learners we will continue to have ongoing conversations about students progress and their needs and we will continue to encourage all staff to reach out to myself or any PPS staff to support and strategies there will be ongoing collaboration with building principles and support staff to ensure that students take advantage of all the different opportunities that they have to graduate we will explore the idea of teachers participating participating in learning walks where they will be encouraged to visit each other's classrooms and learn from each other and our teachers at the elementary level will participate in Wilson Sunday and

070lli training so that we can continue to make sure that all of our special education Educators have all the tools and resources needed to help our students who may be struggling the most academically our third goal is to create opportunities for families to have access with up-to-date information related to special education practices and procedures within our school district some of the areas I would like to highlight are exploring opportunities for parent training by conducting parent surveys for future topics and continuing to expand access to sipo meetings for all community members and as always we will continue to use School Messenger to and communicate through our website you know with any special education updates um so that's what we've been working on I know I kind of went fast through the presentation I know it's kind

071of moving into the night that's like thank you but so now I'm going to turn it over to Kelly Herrero our director of Technology we should probably go and hide order next time it is important as the Director of technology to help support the technology inside and outside of the classroom I'll present my goals with to you along with some tools that align with them our first goal is to support learning opportunities that allow for students to interact and engage in learning experiences that support physical mental social and K-12 health some tools that support our priority areas include Go Noodle Health Smart learning.com mindfulness apps the com app finding a balance when utilizing technology and also incorporating technology great breaks throughout the day and we also utilize a tool called goguardian for awareness of what

072students are using on the computers goal number two the mufsd technology department will continue to support technology that provides students with Hardware software and services to help to support and promote academic excellence some tools that support the priority areas include classlink go Guardian support of programs instructional in the classroom Z space our steam lab MiFi internet access for students at home one-to-one devices and the Technology support that goes along with them a technology help desk instructional support and apps across all curriculum areas as well as a technology committee and goal number three the technology department will support and enhance communication systems between all stakeholders some tools that support the priority areas include our school website School messenger Google Classroom as well as the guardian alerts social media and the use of Microsoft and Google Translate

073for those who need translation thank you Toad that was a lot thank you for your uh your patience as we work through that but I do think it's important for the board to hear you know what the division Direction our departments or buildings are going okay so now we're on a solar update okay so we are we're in a place in our conversation about solar um kind of at a Crossroads this is a conversation when God I pulled you know looking for some history but I pulled a file it was solar 2014. so that's my ability I could tell that's when we began this conversation as a district we began to investigate it's a complex project it's a huge undertaking it's not just something you do um for the sake of doing that you know

074that you're going to save money um there's a lot that goes into it and it's constantly about and so I think the district would make some steps forward would move on to some other things come back to it and then have to start over again whether it be permitting and stuff like that so in the last couple years I think the district had made some good progress in moving forward with the project with the understanding that we were going to put on the rules of both the Junior Senior High School and cut your yeast and in the last year we have learned through scans of the roof that our roofs cannot hold the weight of the solar panel so that that was a major derailment last year when I stood here in December and talked

075about The Five-Year Plan solar was part of that Five-Year Plan so that was a major setback for us when we found out that we couldn't put them you know on the roof and there were also some other uh hurdles as far as pseg's capacity to take the solar that we might be providing and then wanting us to pay for an upgrade to their system a hurdle but not something that we couldn't potentially overcome so where we are now is that we aren't able to put them on our roofs and if we're going to move forward two options we have are carports in our parking lots and ground mats and so next month I'm going to present about The Five-Year Plan so tonight I want to share with you what I think our options are for

076those two potential options and then I'm looking for some guidance from the board to make a decision on is this something that we want to move forward with or is this something that we don't think is feasible for our district considering um some of the challenges that are before us okay so we try to get um Sunrise a company that we've been working with for years to come out to talk to us about the ground Mount Project their response to us was we've been talking to you since 2014. you're very nice people but we're done with the conversation they've already invested a lot of time and effort in us to keep the project moving forward and it didn't happen so Mr delagi had some contact with another company we met with them shared some of

077my our ideas and so they said to speak to the board let us know where you're at and then we can progress from there if need be so when you look at our facilities and I'll start the Junior Senior High School you know again this conversation has been going on since 2014. I it's been pretty clear to me that the board and again the board has changed that there was not a lot of support for ground mounts whether it be parking lot mounts or in the fields that having solar arrays anywhere that would be visible from the street especially when you speak at the high school we're in a historic Corridor here there was concern about that so with that information our options at the Junior Senior High School and again you folks may have

078some this is an open conversation about this uh you may have some different ideas but at the high school potentially possibly be behind the cafeteria if we wanted to do parking lot mounts in this area and if we're going to do any ground mounts it would be in this area along the railroad tracks where we have the trees we would have to remove those trees and that would be an added cost there is some concern you see we have a softball field here and we have two baseball fields here as well with no design of moving those fields so Mr warm with quickly if I'm wrong but we do oftentimes see foul balls going into this area okay right um you know we have our softball field here and this is also fairly Steep Hill

079um you know there's a possibility of maybe in this area um we now it's this is an older image we do have a pole barn here possibly behind that is an area where we can put some those are the only possible areas I see as options at at the high school at Cutchogue East I see our only possible options is carports in our two parking lots here we have the west parking lot where we can potentially put some maps in these areas here and then in the back parking lot over near the gymnasium we could potentially put some uh parking lot maps in that area as well I cut you out west we have the bus garage we also have the back parking lot behind the building and we also have an area here that's

080not utilized that we could potentially put some ground mounts yes with the with the roof at West uh evaluated no was not yeah we never had conversations part of the project so if that's a possibility as well and our fourth property is uh the Laurel School in uh in Laurel this is the school here this is the main road we also own we share this these fields with the Madison Park District Mr Warren correct me if I'm wrong but our property goes from about Midway through this field to this corner for some of thereabouts the other corner okay so we're about here so this would be District property um so that's a potential spot where we could put some ground mass for solar this area we talk about the parking lot back here um you

081know we're in conversation with just kids right now to build a parking lot in this area to alleviate some of the parking that's congested out front um so you know those are the areas that where we could potentially put ground Maps so what I'm asking the board is is this something that you folks have the appetite for and would like us to pursue um or do you you know and just go on what I've heard in the past that some of you feel pretty strongly against ground mats um you know I don't wanna you know use District resources to move forward with the project that's not going to come to fruition if you kind of know now that that's you know where you're at um Sean one of the things we need is an idea

082of how much electricity could be produced on these areas and if it can be broken down into different locations and the board could say that okay we'll go here but we don't want to go there it's but we we need we need more information especially to where how much could be produced in these different locations I think well I think there's I think there's a couple different components to it in that you know if we decided in certain areas to move forward then we need to determine you know there's these set excuse I mean that's when you start talking about ground Maps that's the trigger for a lot of people is the aesthetic side um if any of those sites is acceptable in the areas that I'm talking about to the board we would then

083do our part and get that information to find out is it economically feasible to move forward with the project but I do feel at this point in time before we do that and bring companies out here and go through those exercises is any of the potential projects that we're looking at are they feasible are they doable as far as the board is concerned so that that is my my question today does the board say no to certain locations and that's that's something let's let's get to the heart of the matter been looking at this since 2014. all right we just had a company decide not to talk to us anymore because we can't make a decision whether that's because we then do the work we needed to do here or we couldn't get certain answers

084that we needed we spent some money to decide how feasible it would be and that's when we found out that we couldn't use the roofs ground mounts are more expensive than the roof mounts we couldn't get a square answer with respect to how many years it would we would be reimbursed for the cost before we started you know getting a benefit and that was with the roof mounts so however long that would have been and at one point I mean I heard from eight years to 13 years 14. um aesthetically you know where I stand on that I don't love the idea of the ground mounts or the or the parking mounts but the amount of man hours that our staff has spent on this um and we'll have to continue to spend on this

085um you know what technology is changing rapidly I think that at this point in time it's not right for us to move forward we keep our ear open to hear how technology changes and maybe in the future it might make sense that's kind of where I'm I'm looking at things I've been vocal before I am definitely opposed to the ground mounts especially the Aesthetics to take down all of the trees I think would look terrible I've heard from a lot of people in the community people that live near Aldrich that were very opposed to this and in one of the meetings that I had attended a lot of the ground mounts would be near ball fields and we asked them specifically if a ball hit one of the solar panels and damaged it whose responsibility

086and it would be ours to replace them so it would be continually in those if they were set up in all of those different locations as mentioned and I know that one of them at Cutchogue West is not really close to a field but it's close to a playground so I just don't think that it makes sense at all um I'm I am opposed to the ground mounts um yes I don't support moving forward with this project I think we should use those funds for our students educational needs and maintenance of facilities I would have to say that I think that the effort certainly was put forth to look into this and it is certainly one of the alternatives to fuel costs that are very high here however I am not I am opposed to

087the ground mounts also I currently go to a place where we do have them in the parking lots and I don't know whether it's it's changing the size of the parking but you've got these huge stands in between two slots so that you can have the the solar panels on top and it's just aesthetically not nice and I think our buildings and the location of what we have for our students is wonderful I don't want to see a ball hit any of this so although I commend you and commend everyone going forward on all of this and looking into this alternative fuel I don't like the Aesthetics of it so I would say no okay I guess it's my turn from the very beginning I have said that I believe that as an educational institution

088if solar energy was one of the things that would be changing in the world that it would be our responsibility to look into that I didn't realize that we've been looking into it since 2014. so one of the other things I always said is I wanted to know what my return of my investment was and I don't in the years I'm on the board which aren't many and the years I sat in the audience I don't feel like I've gotten any of those answers that clearly would make me want to move forward so although I I'm not as opposed to the ground mounts as other people might be I am opposed to the fact that it's been taking so long and that with technology changing as drastically as it does on a day-to-day basis and

089knowing how much you've wanted this and it hurts me to even say this but um I think that we should not proceed with this and we've been looking at this I'm going to say Sean before 14. probably another five years before that we've we've had discussions on it the the cost of it Jennifer as you mentioned it would pay for itself from the Energy savings so it wouldn't be a a a cost expense to the taxpayer and that's that's part of the beauty of it but it would be something that would in the long one be saving the taxpayer money and Georgia the payback probably especially the interest rates up now and you're probably looking at 15 years the system would would last for probably 25 years so you know if you're going to have

09010 years of essentially free electricity which is in a neighborhood of today around 500 000 a year between four and five hundred thousand a year and that's only going to be going up it's uh I understand your Aesthetics point of view but you go down and I mentioned this once before I believe here you go down any Road in town and it's something that we very rarely make any mention of and I'm talking about phone calls they don't look very pretty but but buddy we're all happy that they're there that they're standing up and not down on the ground because it's a necessary item and solar collectors would would not only be a good message to a taxpayer that we're trying to save their money but it would be good for the students to have

091them see that when trying to do something that's good for the environment it's it's part of the Green Revolution I don't know what else I can say uh George you mentioned technology changing and you're right but the soul collected as if they lasted 25 or even 30 years we would have new technology then so that's it's it's always going to be something we're going to be moving forward on if we did it yeah I'm not saying shut the door to it I'm just saying it's it's not for us right now when I talk about the cost I mean how much we're talking Millions three four five Millions um well the last I had heard Jennifer around two and a half million uh once you throw in higher interest rates maybe three providing energy I think

092it would they have to do a way bigger project and how long do they last because a lot of them are not made well then there's debate if there's chemicals in those too I mean the same issues that we had with the track we don't know what they are made of they say that the biggest thing in landfills in coming years are going to be solar panels so you know they will have to be replaced we know that what we would use if we ever do the only thing that makes any sense would be to use the best quality right patterns aren't good uh as we said the expectancy life expectancy should be around 25 years okay and and they degrade slightly every year and at some point you're going to say okay that's ended

093a youthful life but that should be 25 and it could be 30 years some of the newer ones could could well last longer and I agree with you about carports I I think they look terrible especially uh when it comes to plowing snow I plow a lot of snow in the winter and that's that's one more challenge that we have to deal with carports no so I think it's fair to say Mr Cooper that we're going to advise Mr patretti that we're going to close the door on this for at least now I I think the board made a decision okay whether we agree or not no we can agree to disagree yeah that's that's fine okay thank you all right thank you presentation thank you thank you okay now we're on to the board

094of ed committee reports audit and finance please do it yes uh order and finance committee Matt um went over a few topics uh first topic was the proposed budget calendar um that starts again the calendar is pretty much following the same that it has in the past um it's really driven by a lot of uh key dates that need to be hit for either state or um public filings um it is being tweaked a little bit as Charlie will be um going through that process following his way that he wants to do things and meeting with each of the department heads and all but beside those little tweaks it's it's pretty much the same uh one of the things that um will have a slight input hopefully or or hopefully not is the internal audit

095has started um don't know when we're going to get the report from that yet it's it's not done but we should have the information from that report in time that if any changes need to be made to the budget we can do so so uh we'll be keeping an eye on that um we also talked about the budget planning with respect to The Five-Year Plan um as Mr petratti said before we'll be discussing that next month as to um you know in the past we had a list of things and we had a semi order to those things we'll be tightening that up for for this coming year and also see if there's a couple of the smaller projects that can be included in next year's budget so we'll be discussing that one of the

096other things we talked about was our bank the banks that we use we use two Banks one of them is Flushing a bank that we have a few Accounts at and we are discussing with flushing interest rates for um some CDs and since interest rates are going up on the cost side we are also going up on the income side not as much but uh they are and so we are discussing with them uh what rates we would be able to get um and then we'll be going to um Capital One Capital One has a rather and then we'll be going to them and having those same discussions um and so this way we can get the most on our money and um then the New York state school facilities Association is also pursuing a

097bidding conglomerate which will help all of us as we go through bidding processes and um that's it thank you Mr Cooper Building Safety and grounds oh thank you Pat we met at the law school not the local I'm sorry cut your geese uh we looked over the insurance claims for the tornado damage and the vast majority of that will be covered under Insurance although there'll be some small bills that we have to pay can you get us a a an amount of what our insurance is costing us and how it has changed and whether this tornado damage is going to affect our insurance rates and we've had several we had a leak at Cutchogue East uh a year or two ago and we've had some fortunately we've had some claims that have been covered by

098insurance so just uh how our insurance rates have changed we had a little bit of a bigger leak this year sure and that tornado damage it damaged the floor that we had just finished the gym floor that got wet and warped what were you gonna say no see you went like a breakdown of what we're paying nice here over the last so many years yes last five years or something that would be nice thank you we're going to be doing some work at the at the blue Lobby the the entrance for the school and that will be done on to enhance our security and I'll be done in-house we'll be doing it ourselves which will save us some money our Greenhouse which we cannot use in the winter we've been looking at heat for it

099and hopefully that would be done maybe thank you Thanksgiving that's what Mr Kelly's telling me okay that'll be done by Kobe we're looking at a heat pump for the Heat and they have new heat pumps now typically a heat pump won't work below 40 degrees very efficiently the new ones will go much slower and that won't require any any gas or fuel oil which the government doesn't want us to use out there [Music] are yearly building inspections went well and the fire inspection is scheduled for early December and we'll keep track of that cut your geese I guess that we meet at casual geese to look at the playground equipment I remember when it was put in about 20 years ago I think it was just 20 years ago and it's still in beautiful condition

100except for the the walkways on it the it's it's a plastic wood and they are sagging they need some repair a new playground set like that would be a neighborhood of pushing 300 000 yeah Doug did we have that inspected recently we've had that inspected recently and we don't want to go to that path we need we need to have it fixed and that's that's critical well let's let's clarify that though um the inspection report um pointed out certain things that need to be addressed um but not that it has to be fixed that we can't use it the report that we have now states that they're recommending that this is the last year we could use that playground okay and that their recommendation for next year is that it be replaced yeah I was

101under the impression that it is not a repair it would is that true Doug it would be a replacement I don't think that some of it can be repaired oh it can be repaired to to repair it you technically need someone who's licensed in playground School playground equipment to repair it and we have not been able to find anybody that's willing to come out here and do it right there's two companies that have come out to look at it and both of them said that they wouldn't work on it because of liability the potential liability issues that if they work on on the playground set as it is now they then take responsibility for any potential issues with it so the so um I'm guessing from my experience twenty thousand dollars maybe thirty thousand dollars

102if you could get somebody to do it and take out the liability correct okay so in the meantime we are going to do those repairs in-house okay um with our people because we are already liable for that playground so um you know and there are some simple fixes that I'm confident our guys can do but you know the bigger issue is the fact that you know we're being told that it needs to come down um to look at it it's frustrating to hear that because it looks to be in good shape the the steel work and and we've all seen it the steel work is beautiful it's it's everything else and it's it's the wood walkways that you go on which I have deteriorated uh it is what it is yes okay but still a

103whole lot more money than just fixing it and we've had a good for 20 years if we could fix it and get another 10 or 15 years out I think that that would be the way to go but you're gonna have to do whatever the the state and the insurance companies well the the liability changes things I think yes okay when would this project start getting a new a new playground that'll be part of our conversation next month you know um put that in The Five-Year Plan how we want to finance it whether it's budget or capital reserve yep right and I would think it would be done as a summertime project absolutely absolutely so I mean according to the report that we got the obvious timeline for me would be this summer okay so

104I know that you know Ms Brennan has begun work with committees and as far as coming up with design ideas and involving families and students and staff in that conversation so that in the event that we decide to put that there on The Five-Year Plan that we're able to and prepared to execute and down there but that's a really nice place they have almost like phones so the kids you know they have that at Aqua dog too it's really really a very nice park I'm sorry just one more question about the playground when is the next inspection it's a yearly so in the summer they're gonna come around okay oh that's it pat okay thank you Doug because one of the things on buildings ground since our committee meeting uh Miss Anderson did call me

105and say that there were some issues uh were reported to her with the basketball courts at Laurel I asked Mr Kelly to go take a look and they said there were some deep cracks um that were concerning they've since been repaired it cost us about eight hundred dollars to do those repairs but now in in looking at that as well there's another conversation right we said The Five-Year Plan was going to be fluid so there's that's something else that we'll be talking about next month um you know they're in need of some potentially some extensive repairs so is that something we want to move forward with or not and again we'll we'll be talking about that next month okay I meant to get down and take a look at that John but I yeah the

106phone kept ringing thank you Doug um curriculum technology health committee um there's just a conference day recap I'm going to not say everything that you guys have already said but um all staff did remain in the district this year and there was a a huge focus on cscs and how to run them properly with a emphasis on the general education teachers on their role the active shooter like Mr patretti said the special education training sessions and the assessment that will be given in class by classroom teachers and department meetings there was a holocaust survey done by the district this is an unfunded State mandate and it's been completed um an Emi course which is a security course best practice for administrators show and share that we were complemented by West Hampton Beach for um the

107school district as being a model school for security thank you for our little you know spy at West Hampton that gave us the information migrant tutors Mattituck school district has the second biggest migrant population in the county next to Riverhead which is pretty surprising to me but BOCES provides tutors at both school buildings for pushing and after school assistance there were social studies conference and um Alana went with all of the social studies teachers and I know Alana shared that she was pretty impressed by the conference our goal is to be ready to offer classes of 2023 and 2024 the Seal of Civic Readiness designation for their diplomas so that's my one report on negotiation from Personnel mcta negotiations um Chris Benatar provided us with information from the November 8th meeting and he will be

108joining us again at the next negotiation meeting and we have on the agenda we will be creating two sub-coordinated positions for both the height one for the high school and one for the elementary school for a yearly stipend of twenty five hundred dollars and that's my report and now miss let her out the cares to make school make sure schools create a community of diversity Equity inclusion access opportunity Innovation confidence trust respect parent and relationship building so that is on the policy so this cares committee which stands for cultural awareness respect and Equity who's going to meet quarterly with the administrators and building principals to make sure that the district follows through on the diversity equity and inclusion initiatives that were set forth by the state so an equity audit was completed and the district

109is addressing any areas of improvement of course all directives always go back to our school mission statement we then had a report from the high school principal and again some of this is repetitive but the building diversity committee met and as Dave said the committee is made up of students staff community members and they basically encourage conversations that are very popular and they're thrilled with that he did mention the monthly recognition Hispanic heritage unity and debility women's history Autism Awareness the best buddies gay pride and this is accomplished with active club and invited speakers to the school the high school musical is getting ready for an amazing show with actors representing various characters then we had a report from Amy Brennan on an elementary school principal the school is friends around a community of kindness

110acceptance and belonging the cultural connections committee is seeing an increase in student involvement and students participate in monthly meetings around respect and Equity recently students created an art mural on the Windows between the library and the stem lab both schools share division of inclusion and maintain open communication through collaborations so at this time the committee is satisfied that the opportunities and Pathways presented to all of our students allow for a safe and accepting environment thank you okay um new business I I need a motion to accept a donation let me just explain the donation is to kachag East it is five alphabet meeting rugs from donors choose program a miscellaneous fitness equipment from Miss Jill Schroeder and 50 classroom books from miss Emily puccio and we thank them for their donation so I need a

112second a second discussion yeah I had a question with the uh desks what what are we doing with those so uh we have offered them to uh neighboring school districts they have shown no interest in them they have not gotten back to me um we are reaching out uh to Peconic school there's been conversation uh not formal but where we would look to potentially sell them uh to the Peconic school so now that they're excess we have the ability to okay are they small deaths at someone could use in a home potentially yeah community that would want them yeah we're going to they're not in bad shape we are going to exhaust all possibilities um the last thing that we're going to look to do is put them in a dumpster that's for sure okay

113and even with the plastic chair I was just thinking there might be people in our community that could use chairs and deaths in their own home and I know I've asked before about the Chromebooks and they're probably if there's a check if there's technology on there that's being accessed it is all right thank you Sean with those desks be put on the website there's I mean we could you know if we don't have any interest with uh the kind of school we can't come to an agreement with them on on the desks um we would potentially utilize our social media pages and so forth to create an opportunity to for families to come get the desks or if people are running small daycares out of their houses or whatever we want to see them go

114to good use um but they won't they won't go on a dumpster okay thank you okay all in favor aye opposed okay now I'm sorry I have to leave okay goodbye happy birthday Lisa oh happy birthday happy birthday okay we're up to audience communication other than agenda items if anyone has anything they'd like to speak on please come up to the podium hmm no okay well then I need a motion to adjourn so second second all in favor thank you
