007She always goes above and beyond to keep abreast of curriculum changes, applies these when necessary for her students and as needed. She is dedicated teacher and a wonderful asset to Old Mill Road facility. She is a true professional. It's with great joy that I recommend Ms. Robin Zax for tenure as a teacher in the North Merrick School District. >> [applause] >> SO NOW WE HAVE PICTURES. SO >> [applause] [laughter] [applause] [laughter] >> AND NEXT, HAVE MRS. CARISSA Johnson from Old Mill Road. PLEASE COME FORWARD. >> [applause] >> CARISSA JOHNSON IS IN OUR FOURTH year of teaching in the North Merrick School District. She initially started her career in 2022 as a second grade teacher at Old Mill Road. In 2025, she became a first grade teacher where she continues until present. Mrs. Johnson has served

She's a very valuable member of the Old Mill Road staff, a true professional. It's without reservation that I recommend Mrs. Johnson for tenure as teacher in the North Merrick
009School District. >> [applause] [applause] >> WE GOT BOTH FLOWERS. >> [applause] >> NEXT WE HAVE MS. Trisha Shanahan from Old Mill Road, Dr. Palma again. >> [applause] >> And before I speak about her, I just found out something. Her kindergarten teacher is here. Oh, wow. >> [laughter] >> You look so good. How many people bring their kindergarten teacher to a tenure? >> [laughter] [clears throat] >> Trisha Shanahan has been working in the North Merrick district for the past 5 years. She initially started her career at Fayette as a lead as a lead replacement in the fifth grade. Um and then in March of 2022, she was a teacher assistant in the fourth grade. In September of '22, she came to Old Mill Road as a third grade teacher, a position which she holds until the
010present. She has always done an outstanding job in every grade in which she has been placed, working collaboratively with classroom teachers and special education teachers on grade on every grade level to make sure students' individual needs were being met. Ms. Shanahan always goes above and beyond to keep to keep abreast of changes in curriculum uh and to modify for students as needed. She is well-respected by her students and our colleagues. After several years working in the DOE, she has come to Camp Avenue School for the past 3 years. And Ms. Maloney has made a lasting impact as a fourth-grade teacher through her dedication, her compassion, and commitment to her students. Ms. Maloney's fun-loving and nurturing demeanor allows her to build strong, meaningful relationships with her students. She is a passionate advocate who ensures that all students can access the curriculum at their individual levels, empowering each child to reach their full potential. In the classroom, Ms. Maloney has served as the general education teacher in an integrated co-teaching
012classroom while also supporting her grade level as an ENL teacher. She brings creativity and innovation to her lessons, engaging students in ways that make learning both meaningful and exciting. One of my favorite engaging lessons was during the Revolutionary War unit. She helped her students understand the concept of no taxation without representation by giving out Maloney money to the students, and throughout the day, randomly taxing the students. >> [laughter] >> They were getting so annoyed, but by the end, they truly understood the importance of representation. Beyond the classroom, Ms. Maloney's commitment to our school community truly stands out. She is actively involved in PTA events, school activities, and district initiatives. She consistently volunteers her time to participate in committees and support the many programs we offer in North Merrick. Her dedication extends even further because she
013attends her students' sporting events on the weekends, cheering them on and showing them that her support goes far beyond the school day. Ms. Maloney is also a true team player. She collaborates with colleagues, values feedback, and contributes thoughtful ideas that strengthen our school community. She is, without a doubt, a tremendous asset to our faculty. 014to you today about Ms. Megan Selka, a dedicated and highly skilled speech and language pathologist at Camp Avenue School. Ms. Selka joined our district in September 2021 as a part-time provider and through her commitment, expertise, and strong impact on students and staff earned a full-time appointment in October of 2022. Since that time, she has continued to distinguish herself as a knowledgeable and thoughtful clinician. Ms. Selka brings a deep understanding of speech and language development to her work and her expertise has been instrumental in supporting the progress of the students on her caseload. She is intentional in her approach in sharing that students' IEP goals are not only addressed during therapy sessions, but all are also meaningfully generalized into the classroom and throughout the school environment. Personally, I always enjoy visiting Ms. Silka's sessions. In the
015moments before the therapy session begins, she takes some time to connect with her students through genuine conversation, creating a comfortable and welcoming environment. Those interactions set a positive tone and reflect the strong relationship she has built with her students. Beyond her direct work with students, Ms. Silka is a valued and respected member of both the speech and language department and the broader Camp Avenue community. She collaborates closely with her fellow speech therapist and is an active and engaged member of the Camp Avenue learning team. Her partnerships with the school psychologist, special education teachers, and other staff members reflect her commitment to a cohesive student-centered approach. Equally important are the positive relationships she has built with both students and colleagues. She contributes to a supportive, collaborative school culture and is someone others trust and rely upon.

She brings a thoughtful and intentional approach to her teaching. She creates a classroom environment where students are encouraged to think, collaborate, and grow. You'll often see students working

Her questioning pushes students to think more deeply, and she gives them the time and space to develop their ideas. Gina is also committed to her own professional growth, particularly in the area of literacy and the science of reading. This is evident in her classroom, where students are developing into confident and capable readers who can think critically about what they read. In Wings, she creates engaging and thoughtful learning experiences that challenge students to think critically and creatively. Their hands-on project-based work, such as 3D designs, digital creation, engineering challenges, students are encouraged to explore ideas in depth and take ownership of their learning. One of the highlights of her program is the Wings Shark Tank project, which we all know and love. Um students are able to develop original inventions, build prototypes, and present their ideas during a school-wide event.
020Uh district-wide event. This experience not only showcases their creativity, but builds confidence and communication and problem-solving skills. What truly sets Mara apart, however, is her commitment to building connections beyond the classroom, especially through her work with SEPTA.
