Good evening. Welcome to the February 11th board meeting. If you'd like to please stand, we have a special treat for the Pledge of Allegiance. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the for it stands one nation under Godisible and justice for all. There you go. >> A national anthem. >> Oh, I'm sorry. I got so excited with the kids. Our national anthem is it was sung by um Jeremiah Cubis, member of the Oceanside High School Symphonic Choir, Honors Choir, and member of the uh Oceanside High School selected choir. Jeremiah Oh, say can you see by the dawn early light what so proudly we held at the twilight last gleaming who brought stripes and bright stars through The perilous fight for
the ramports we watched were so gallently streaming. And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star spangled bot wave for the land of the free and the home of the brave. [applause] If you remain standing for a moment of silence for our troops that is keeping us safe abroad, our Nassau County police officers, our Oceanside Fire Department, and of course all our doctors and medical people, and also uh we tragically lost the Nassau County police officer, um um Mrs. um Patricia Espinosa, who's tragically killed by a drunken driver. Thank you everyone. Appreciate it. So this evening, uh, due to the fact that we have kids that are traveling, we'd like to bring up, um, Jeremiah C, uh, no,
not Jeremiah. I'm sorry. Jeremiah Mc McDow to come up to the front. Jeremiah, and you're in charge. What do you think? Round of applause. [applause] >> Thank you. Ryan, Macy, and Matt are all sad that they couldn't be here today. >> They told me to tell you guys that. [laughter] something nice about it. >> Yeah, students have successfully completed their midterms examinations and have returned to regular instruction. They are feeling confident and well prepared as they move into the second half of the academic year. We are proud to recognize our girls cheerleading squad who qualified for and competed at the pool state level competition held at Walt Disney World in Florida. This achievement reflects months of dedication, discipline, and teamwork, as well as the commitment of their coaches and families. Representing our school on such
a prestigious stage was a tremendous honor, and we congratulate the team on their hard work and success. We are also proud of our students in Wick. During this competition, they went on there. They went and there were over 3,000 students from all over the world. And in the competition with that many people, eight out of the 16 students who went from Oceanside High School won an award. The senior fashion show rehearsal will take place on February 23rd at 700 p.m. in the gymnasium. Participating seniors will have the opportunity to practice their walks, review staging and transitions, and finalize timing to ensure the event runs smoothly. This rehearsal is an important step in preparing students for a successful and wellorganized show. The senior fashion show will be held on February 24th at 700 p.m. in the
gymnasium. This event serves as a celebration of the senior class and allow students to showcase their creativity, confidence, and school spirit. Families, staff, and students are encouraged to attend and support the graduating class during this special evening. Hope to see you guys there. Cap and gown sale will conclude on February 28th, marking the final days for seniors to place their orders online. The trip is scheduled for June 3rd, 2026 at a cost of $130. Participation is a privilege. No refunds will be issued and seniors not in good standing may be deemed ineligible. Thank you for having me here today, guys. >> Thank you so much. Great job. Maybe you take over from now on since people uh you know didn't want to come this this evening. Um I just got to back up one second. You know, I I was so taken back at uh at the kindergarten, pre kindergarten on that pledge of allegiance. A round of applause for uh Mrs. McCann, for the
school, six kids. I mean, I think they did a great job and it was such a special treat to get them on the pledge of allegiance. And I believe that's what the school stands for, you know, was doing the pledge of allegiance. I'm very proud of that. At this particular time, we'd like to um ask Dr. Harriet. >> Yes. Thank you, Mr. Dean Broio. So there are a number of things have been going on in the district over the past I'd say months really more like three weeks. Uh so it's been a sort of roller coaster of things but um I did feel it necessary to share with the community some of these updates and I apologize in advance if you've already heard this or it might feel like old news to you but this
is the first opportunity that I have to share it publicly. So let me begin with what's going on at our wonderful Castleton High School. So, uh, as you, um, as you may now know, um, our former principal, um, Mr. Frankie Simmons, who did, uh, have his doctorate conferred at the end of December, so he's now Dr. Simmons, um, had that wonderful experience happen in his life, but at the same time, he also secured, uh, an excellent leadership opportunity uh, at the Department of Education where he came um, from before he came to Oceanside. So, uh, knowing this was in his 100% best interest, um, we gave him an opportunity to part company with our district, uh, and he is well on his way to a wonderful, wonderful career ahead. So, uh, at obviously at the
same time and in a relatively moment's notice, we needed to find an interim principal for Castleton. And um after some del deliberation, we felt without question that our associate principal, Miss Joel Hennessy, deserved an opportunity to take the leadership role at Castleton, which she assumed as of Monday. Uh and is working very very hard to acclimate to the school environment, which to be honest, she has a relationship with so many of those students already and their families. So uh while it's still a heavy lift, we're very confident in her ability to do that. It is at this point an interim position through June. Um, and we will cross all those bridges when we get there closer to the springtime. But we are really thrilled to have Miss Hennessy take the lead uh as principal of
Castleton High School. That of course meant welld deserved. That of course meant domino effect. We had to replace Miss Hennessy at the high school. And uh we were thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity to Eddie Risner. Eddie is currently a middle school social studies teacher who has his mid degree. Um he is also familiar with the high school for a whole host of reasons. The least of which was he was a student there a number of years ago. Um but he is also a high school basketball coach and um we are really very very uh happy and eager to give him that opportunity as well which will also be interim through June. And then of course we will be and actively looking for a replacement. I think Mr. Bickman is well on that
um to replace his teaching responsibilities between now and the end of June. So uh I know that Miss Hennessy has met already with all of the students with the teachers. We've reached out to the families. So um by my by by my standards the the transition has been seamless. So we acknowledge and thank Mr. Simmon Dr. Simmons for all his dedication to our community. wish him well and certainly simultaneously wish all of the others in turn equally as well. Another very good uh good word that we got had to do with universal prek. Many might have seen the governor's um u budget that was was presented. It doesn't get finalized until the legislators agree, but there's very rare a time when the governor is offering certain amount of monies to schools and legislators take it
away. That doesn't happen that way. If anything, it's the it's the reverse. They add more to it. But she has held true to her commitment to early childhood education. So, um there were more funds and will be more funds available per student. That gives us a couple of opportunities. The least of which, and one we're super excited about, is that every single person, which right now equals 306 families who have expressed an interest in attending our UPK, will be able to achieve a seat. uh which is really big for us. Um we we've had to use the lottery system in the past as you know and sadly we've had to disappoint a few families although I have to say Miss Mcand and her staff are diligent about staying on that and we try to accommodate
where we could this year we um we don't have to be concerned about that. It also gives us a little bit of flexibility to do some creative things with our UPK and more to come on that front. You may notice if you got a chance to look at our agenda for this evening, there are a couple of things I want to point to. One is um that we are uh approving this evening, the board will be approving the resignation for the purpose of retiring for 32 of our amazing staff members. So uh you do know we put forth a retirement incentive and uh we had a goal of 25 teachers. Uh we reached the number of 32. So the cost savings to the district is is monumental. But I'm always the first one to say
that one of the things I don't like about an incentive is we lose that that that history and we lose that um the knowledge base um times so many many many brains. So um but people choose to move on. We we fully accept that. But I do also simultaneously want to say that thanks to Dr. D. Rosa, we are making a concertive effort to reach out to every single one of the uh retirees and give them an opportunity to sign on the dotted line that they will come back as substitute teachers. Um we're also willing with the board's approval um to pay them a rate much more commensurate with um their their years of service if you will be more than our regular current sub rate. So we're hoping that we accomplish a couple of
things at the same time. hold on to that that that knowledge base and at the same time give some people an opportunity to transition a little bit you know slower than they might have anticipated and also um and fill a substitute void which we still have um despite our best efforts. So um very excited on that front. Um, I also want to say that I am really um very excited to announce that the board will be taking a vote this evening on a decision that they've made um just literally a half hour ago. Um as you all again know uh Dr. D. Rosa will be retiring as of April 30th. She'll be working um certain amount of days in May and June. But we uh obviously needed to replace her. We did a very extensive
interview process as was as is traditional in in Oceanside schools. I thank publicly the people who participated and gave of their own time to participate in um in the feedback committees. We do take that feedback very very seriously. But it is a multiple level, multiple stage process and it culminates in a board interview which again happened only a few short um um minutes ago uh with our two finalist two finalists. I am thrilled to announce that the board will be appointing Michelle Via who returned back to uh to our meeting. Um we're so happy um Michelle comes to us um uh sitting in a similar role to Dr. D. poses as the executive director of human resources in Locust Valley. So, she definitely comes to us with experience. She um has had been in Locust
Valley since uh 2015. So, that's been her staple home after leaving the DOE. A background in school counseling, which we think is going to be very helpful in the role of HR. Um most and moved up the up the ranks there in Locus Valley and and most recently was executive director. So, um, Michelle will officially, uh, be appointed this evening to begin officially May 1, transition time with with Dr. D. Roser. And, um, we know she'll hit the ground running. So, uh, this is a little premature. Uh, welcome and congratulations, but the board will be taking action on that this evening, Michelle. Congratulations. And lastly, can you please stand up? >> I'm sorry. >> Can't see. Where is she? >> Oh. Oh, STAND UP. [laughter] UH I do have one more item I do uh
want to um announce. So and this has to do with enrollment. Um and so I begin by saying as many of you know our district has been closely monitoring enrollment trends for quite some time. In a proactive effort to plan responsibly, we commissioned a formal enrollment study in 2018 which was updated in 2023. The good news is that both reports have consistently indicated our overall district-wide enrollment is expected to remain relatively stable. However, however, one other trend has also remained consistent. Enrollment disparities among our six elementary schools are projected to continue. By way of example, the current kindergarten class who will enter first grade this fall shows the following projected first grade enrollment. School two will have 70 incoming first graders. School three 85 students. School five 81 students. School 8 96 students. By contrast,
school 4 will have 40 incoming first graders and school 9Ee will have 47 incoming first graders. To be clear, the district has managed these differences in the past and we will continue to manage them moving forward. No extreme changes to our current structure appear warranted. However, in a fully proactive and planned move, I am recommending that beginning in the 2728 school year, we establish an optional zone for small pockets of our school communities. The purpose of this optional zone is to provide flexibility, reduce building imbalance where possible, and potentially help us avoid major disruptions should enrollment pattern shifts in the future. After extensive research and data analysis, we've identified three areas within our current district boundaries where this approach is most feasible. the southernmost portion of school two and the northeasternmost portion of school 8
which are contiguous. Families in both of these areas would have the option to attend their currently zoned school or choose to attend school 4. and the southernmost portion of school 3 where families in this area would have the option to attend either school 3 or 9E. This optional zoning plan would begin with students entering first grade in the 2728 school year, including our incoming UPK cohort who will become first graders that year. I want to reiterate, no families will be mandated to move their current homeschool. This will be an optional opportunity for families. It is a proactive planned measure and it will have no impact on any families currently in the pipeline. A detailed FAQ and a visual representation of the three identified areas will be made available on our website. In addition, school principles,
our central registar, Miss Kelsey Mclofflin, and our central office team are available to answer any questions. Our PTA presidents have also been informed of this recommendation and are prepared to assist families as well. to the board. Thank you as always for your partnership, your trust, and your continued commitment to our students and our schools. Can I answer any questions you may have >> at this particular time? Anybody from the board have any questions? Seeing none, anybody from the audience have any question regarding uh Dr. Harrington's statement? Uh just first of all I just I would just like to thank Dr. Harrington. We look at these different things no matter what they are. We try to figure out what's going on and we're just trying to be ahead of it and I think right now um
that's exactly what we're trying to do and it's a great decision to be made. So I think this board supportly uh definitely supports this decision behind it 100%. And uh if there's any questions, please contact uh the office and we'll have any questions. Remember this is optional and it's going to be an easy thing. Seeing none, Dr. Harrington. >> No, we move on to budget session. >> Okay. So, believe it or not, we're at budget session number two at this particular time in February. I know as we get closer in everybody starts asking a lot of questions but we started these budget sessions early so we can try to get through them. So at this particular time we're gonna have Dr. Kley want to take us through it. >> Sure. Thank you Mr. Drosio. [clears
throat] >> Tonight we will present budget workshop 2 um which is the program component of our 2627 budget. Uh just a reminder, we are still in the preliminary stages of developing the budget, but we wanted to share the overview that goes into how our program component is being prepared for the 2627 school year. As you can see, here's tonight's agenda. Um we will review the budget factors for the upcoming school year. We will hear about our curriculum and instruction highlights, review the program component in its entirety, and share some upcoming important dates. Last meeting uh we completed budget workshop number one which covered the overview of the entire budget development process as well as the administrative and capital components of the budget. In that meeting we in that meeting we reviewed the five budget factors
you see on the screen. insurance, transportation, long-range planning, employee benefits, and fiscal uncertainty that are all out of our that are increasing all out of our immediate control. We remain mindful of these proposed increases and the impact on our taxpaying community as we look to finalize our expenditure budget over the next few weeks. Tonight, we will review our program component, which represents approximately 75% of our total expenditure budget. At this time, I turn it over to Mrs. Pervito, our assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and technology, who will walk us through some of the curriculum and instruction highlights for the upcoming school year. >> Thank you, Dr. Kley. Tonight, I will be sharing how the curriculum and instruction portion of our budget supports excellent teaching and learning in Oceanside, both by honoring what we've already invested
in and by sharing where we're headed next. At its core, this is about our students, who they are today, and how we work to provide an education that fosters confident, capable young people. It's about giving students the experiences, knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed in college, careers, and life. And about how thoughtful budget choices ensure every student is prepared to pursue the future they imagine for themselves. Our budget is a reflection of our values. Every investment you'll see tonight is purposeful. It is aligned to our district goals, focused on teaching and learning, and grounded in student outcomes. At the same time, we are being responsible stewards of our resources, protecting what work what works while planning thoughtfully for the future. This year we made important investments that strengthen learning at both ends of
the educational journey. We implemented AP Seminar English 10 which builds students critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication skills. This course provides early exposure to college level expectations and better prepares students for advanced coursework and postsecary success. At the early childhood level, we introduce the use of the BGA assessment in universal prek. This tool helps us understand each child's strengths and needs very early on. So instruction is response responsive from the very beginning. We also invested in how students learn, not just what they learn. We provided extensive professional development in executive function strategies that support helping students build skills like organization, focus, and time management. Furthermore, we continued our responsive classroom initiative that strengthens school culture by helping children feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. And finally, we partnered with Long Island University to create
a teaching fellowship within our academic intervention department. Through this program, highly qualified new teachers spend a year working in our schools while receiving hands-on training, coaching, and mentoring. This approach helps us attract strong new educators, keep consistent staff working with students, and strengthen reading instruction using proven researchbased practices. All of this leading to better outcomes for students. We are continuing to expand the thoughtful use of AI in our classrooms, not just as a tool for teachers, but as a way for students to learn how to use technology responsibly, think critically, and make ethical decisions. These are skills they are going to need well beyond school. In grades K through six, we added lit lab to our literacy instruction toolbox of resources. This new tool supports foundational reading skills like phonics and fluency. It gives students
additional practice in small groups and learning centers, helping build strong, confident readers using research-based approaches. We recognize that our role is not only to prepare students to use technology safely and productively through teaching and learning, but also to partner with parents as they raise children in a technologydriven world. through parent university. This year we offered workshops that supported families around topics such as technology use, learning, and child development and provide practical tools that our parents can use at home. As stu our students thrive when they experience consistency, opportunity, and high expectations across academics, the arts, athletics, and community experiences. As we look ahead, I'm proud to share that we are continuing the programs that are working and making a positive difference for our students. Building on that commitment, this slide highlights the many programs we
are continuing across the district. Programs that support the whole child. From elementary health and wellness to our high school wellness center to athletics and the fine and performing arts, these experiences are essential to student growth. The images represent the full Oceanside experience, academic achievement, creativity, teamwork, service, and joy. Together, they reflect our focus on developing that whole child and learners who are curious, capable, compassionate, and prepared. Now, I'd like to share a lens into what's next. These initiatives are about preparing students not just for the next grade, but for life beyond. The next initiative is one we're especially excited about. We are launching a Bloomberg business and finance lab at Oceanside High School which will elevate our already strong business program and give students access to the same realworld financial tools used by professionals. In
year 1, the lab will be integrated into our business courses, providing authentic hands-on learning experiences that build career awareness, problem solving skills, and financial understanding. This work also lays the foundation for expanding into personal finance instruction in year two, which is meeting new state requirements as well. This is a powerful investment in realworld learning and it positions Oceanside as a leader in career connected education. It aligns with New York inspires, which is the New York State's initiative to modernize graduation requirements and teaching and learning, and with the New York State Portrait of a Graduate, which defines the skills and experiences every Oceanside student will graduate with. Together, these guide our work in preparing students to navigate an increasingly complex world with confidence and purpose. Oftentimes, thoughtful initiatives grow from ideas and information we encounter through
professional learning and conferences where we get to bring back new perspectives and consider how they might strengthen the experiences of our students right here in Oceanside. Both this initiative that I'm about to share and the one I just shared were sparked by ideas and conversations from the New York State School Boards Association conference that was attended by several board trustees and our superintendent. This slide highlights our continued commitment to our culturally responsive education and equity advisory goals. We will be introducing professional development on the dignity index, a framework that focuses on how people communicate, especially when they disagree. By strengthening empathy, listening, and respectful dialogue, this work will support our ongoing efforts to ensure that all our students feel seen, valued, and heard, and that our schools are places where differences are respected and dignity
is protected. This is essential to student belonging, connection, engagement, and success. Next year, we will be adopting of Envision Math 2.0. This is an updated edition of the math program we currently use in our elementary schools. This is not a brand new direction, but actually a refreshed and improved version that builds on what is already familiar and effective for our teachers and students. Our investment in Envision Math 2.0 supports strong math instruction from the earliest grades. Students learn not just how to get the right answer, but how to think, how to reason, and how to explain their thinking. This approach builds confidence, deepens understandings, and strengthens problemsolving skills that will carry our students to the um secondary grades. Taken together, these investments reflect a budget with purpose. They align to our district values and goals.
They support students and educators, and they ensure that out an outstanding Oceanside education and not just for today, but for tomorrow. I want to close by thanking our board of education and superintendent for their continued support. Thank you to our administrators, our directors, and our faculty who bring this work to life every single day in our classrooms and in our schools. And thank you to our parents and community. Your partnership really does make all the difference. Together, we are building a bright future for our students. Thank you for your support and thank you for uh giving me the opportunity to present this evening. Thank you, Mr. Bravito. Great job. >> Thank you, uh, >> Dr. Copley. >> Thank you, Mrs. Bervito. Thank you, Mr. Drosio. Um, we will now begin uh just for the board,
we are now back on my presentation at the program component. Should be slide number four. Uh, we will now begin our uh review of the program component uh for our community, which are on pages 6, 7, and 9 through 17. Uh please note that the proposed 2627 uh program component budget is posted on board docs for our community to follow. On one side you will see the budget account codes and dollar amounts and on the other side of the budget pages you will see the corresponding budget account codes with the budget explanation of each line item. As you see on the screen the following categories are included in the program component of the budget in budget workshop number one. Just a reminder, we have already completed a complete review of the DACA and transportation department
uh proposed expenses for next year. Before we begin our line by line review, here is how our process will follow. Highlights you will see projected on the following um on the screen and following slides are denoted by the following page number, account code, description, directional arrows will reference a proposed increase or decrease and an explanation of the proposed change. We will stop at the conclusion of each page um to take questions from the board members. Please note that our board members have had these figures and uh budget expenses for several days and I've already carefully reviewed each page um in its entirety. Page number six covers the centralized costs for curriculum development and supervision of schools. Highlighted changes on page six include a reallocation of expenses and our non-instructional equipment code to align with state
financial transparency reporting requirements and compliance with the federal government's uniform guidance on equipment purchases. Also, in our security purchase services code, there is a proposed increase in our terms with our security vendor or on our existing security monitoring contract. Finally, there is another reallocation of expenses of our copiers under Boseis um our lease code which will now be um housed in our technology contractual services code as the district has entered now in in its second year um agreement with updated um service for network copiers across the district. Um we have been diligent in reviewing production usage of current machines, the age of existing copiers and uh finding the right appropriate uh size machines for all uh to support all of our schools with newer updated machines. At this time, are there any questions on page
six? >> Any questions from the board? Uh set up Dr. Kley. the >> the copier uh copier's Bose sees lease and maintenance. Yes sir. >> Wherever that got moved to is that the is that the same number >> uh with a slight increase which was based on the existing agreement. Yes, but it it is a slight increase that you will see on uh the technology code uh >> I want to say. And why is there a decision to move it from under this code to some other code? >> It it it the current code that it reflects under the 2020 appears as it's it's a central office function and in actuality putting it under the technology component technology is obviously districtwide which covers a range of support for K12. So it just really aligns with
what the SC3 our annual financial transparency report calls for. It's a little misleading the way we had it initially. >> Thank you. Sure. >> Anyone else from the board? >> Just one quick thing, Dr. Coley, with the security um with the security purchase services. >> Yes. >> For an additional 16 grand. What that's covering just basically just upgrades on our security. >> It's upgrades on the camera as well as uh what we already have the it's upgrades on the existing monitoring contract, but it's also um more of a real time update uh for our director of security and evening and weekend security uh to be uh aware. >> Perfect. Excellent. Thank you so much. You can't have enough safety. Go ahead. >> Page seven uh covers the areas of inservice training and instruction. Proposed increases
to teacher mentoring are due to the additional mentoring needed for anticipated new hires for the upcoming school year. Also, there is a proposed increase in our Bosey's professional development code to account for additional needs for ongoing support of our entire K through2 literacy program. At this time, are there any questions on page seven? >> Any questions from the board? Mr. Kaplan, >> on the Bosey's professional development, did the cost for the training go up or it's just we have more use of it or more need of it. >> It's a little of both. The cost for the training went up, but we are adding um some professional development. >> Great. >> But also keep in mind that when we can funnel it through Boseies, it's aidable. So, it really makes a big difference. Any other
board member? Seeing none, Dr. Copley. >> Page nine covers the area of instruction equipment and instruction contractual in various equipment codes. Uh again um there is a reallocation of expenses um to align with uh the federal government's uniform guidance on equipment purchases. Also, there is a proposed increase in our special projects contractual code to support the increased needs of the following programs. GEM peer mentoring bridges and OSD parent university. At this time, are there any questions on page nine? >> Any questions from the board? Mr. Blau? >> Nothing. Okay. Go ahead, Dr. Hley. Page 10 covers the area of instruction teaching, instruction textbooks, and instruction Boseie services. We are proposing a new code uh called Boseis textbooks, which as Mrs. PvO alluded to earlier will support the need for our math textbooks for our K
through sixth grade students. Um again, as Dr. Harrington mentioned, since these textbooks will come from um Bosey's purchases, there will be uh Bosey's aid that comes back to the district in subsequent years. At this time, are there any questions on page 10? >> Any questions? Just one quick question. I know people are going to call me tomorrow morning about uh sort of textbooks. We're going to say, "How come we're buying textbooks again or we're not buying textbook?" >> The concept of the oldfashioned textbook with the hard cover is not necessarily what this is, but but it's called the textbook. It's >> because I know tomorrow's going to say, "Why are we spending textbook on textbooks? We don't have any kids anymore." And good. Thank you. And I just want to say that. Okay. Go ahead.
Mr. >> Following up on that, would workbooks fall also under the textbooks and any related software or is the software >> I know there's line items for that also, but is software under that or licenses? >> The it's the entire concept of the whole program which does have some hard copies of things and software pieces of it, but it's the entire program itself that's considered the textbook >> and it falls under that particular code. >> Yes. Okay. >> Seeing none, Mr. Kley, go right ahead. Page 11 covers the continuation of instruction materials and supply needs for next year. Um here is where you see the reallocation of those department equipment codes from page nine now reflected under supplies. Um again this is in accordance with the updates um from the federal uniform guidance of purchases
at this time. Are there any questions on page 11? I get >> what's getting >> We're on page 11. >> On page 11, Mr. Powaskki, we're good. >> Yep. >> Okay. Any questions from the board? >> Seeing none and seeing nothing from Mr. Powaskki. [laughter] Um, go ahead, Dr. Kley. >> Page. Thank you, Mr. Picowski. Page 12 covers the instructional program for students with disabilities as well as our tech business education expenses. Uh our overall students with disabilities budget continues to rise uh to meet the ongoing needs and support of all of our special needs students. Over the last couple of years, the total budget in this particular department has increased approximately by $1 million each year. As you see on the slide, proposed increases in tuition related services for private schools, district of location,
DO, district of resident services, DOR, as well as the tuition for both these programs are due to match uh actual enrollment this year as well as um account for anticipated needs for next year. In our tech uh business education section, there are proposed increases to our Boseis career ed tuition for anticipated increase in the number of students who participate as well as a new code for supplies needed as Mrs. Pavito alluded to for the new Bloomberg lab we have slated in our business department. At this time, are there any questions on page 12? >> Any questions from the board? Any questions? No. The only question I have is we're keeping that line technology equipment as zero. Is it we're just keeping that line as zero or >> there's a reason for that? >> The reason
why that's a great question, Mr. Debrosia. The reason why it's reflected is just to be transparent to show that obviously over the last couple of years, there were expenses under those codes. As the years kind of progress, those codes kind of phase out. Once they're all kind of zeroed out, they will then be taken out of uh rotation of what you see on this on the pages. Perfect. Thank you, M. Dr. Cop. Continue on. >> Page 13 covers the instructional program for summer school as well as the Oceanside Learning Learning Center expenses. A proposed increase um is based on prior year's actual enrollment with Bosey's proposed percentage increases. Um, as you see the other line, there is a proposed shi a proposed shift within the OLC codes to account for a potential transition to Bosei
support, but this has not been finalized as of yet. At this time, are there any questions on page 13? >> Any questions from the board? >> Seeing none, Dr. Copen. >> Page 14 covers the expenses for library media services and technology computer assisted instruction. Um here again you see another reallocation of equipment expenses to align once again with the federal uniform guidance as well as new codes in computer licensing software and computer hardware um that our technology department needs to support the new uh Bloomberg lab for the upcoming school year. Also the computer/printer repairs code is increasing to support the new service contract um that we now have in place for district-wide printers. And finally, a proposed increase to the Bosei software is due to Bosey's um estimate uh estimated increases for services. At this
time, are there any questions on page 14? >> Anybody from the board? >> Seeing none, Dr. Kley. Page 15 covers the expenses for pupil services and guidance and health services. Proposed increase in the services um other districts and BOSI services for health services are due to actual enrollment of students enrolled in private and parochial schools. At this time I know we're on the same slide but are there any questions on page 15? >> Anyone from the board? Seeing none. Dr. Kley. Uh hang on. Page 16. >> Page 16. There it is. Page 16 covers the expenses for pupil services and psychological services, social work, and co-curricular activities. There is a there is a proposed increase to our Northwell Health contract to align with actual services received from prior year. At this time, are there any
questions on page 16? >> Any questions from the board? >> Dr. Kley, page 17. Page 17 covers the expenses for intercolastic athletics. Proposed increases in the contractual services code are due to new gym wall padding needs in multiple schools. At this time, are there any questions on page 17? >> Any questions from the board? >> The gym inside. So, that would be the the gym padding. That would be throughout the entire district. >> Uh there's multiple schools that Mr. Leman has identified. I do not believe that all of them are needed, but there are some that are uh worse condition than others. >> And we get that like on I guess a contract with same colors that are there right now will [laughter] picked up this answer. >> Very good. See you none. Dr. Kley,

Opportunity for the superintendent of schools, Dr. Harrington. >> Just a couple of things. We obviously have reached now the end of our winter sports season and our results have been unbelievably stellar. We will honor all of these students at an upcoming honors event at our board meeting. But we've had champions in boys swimming uh breaking school records and and and county championships for the first time in ever. Uh we've also had wrestling champions. Um we've had track and field champions. Uh we had a student Nick Car. He was a first place finisher in both wrestling and is going to be aiming to compete at the
state level in track and field. Our boys bowling team were state champions. Our gymnastic girls, we had a a wonderful state qualifier just yesterday and a number of our girls um did qualify. So, we're going to be spending quite a lot of time upstate. But, uh we're so very proud of all of our athletes. our cheer program continues to grow and blossom and our both our boys and girls basketball team. Really, really hang in there. So, uh, thank you to Mr. Leman, to his coaches, uh, and to our student athletes. It makes us sail of pride, uh, proud. Uh, in addition to speaking of being proud, I'm sure I don't want to steal the thunder from Mr. Moresca because I'm sure he'll speak about it, but I did have the pleasure of seeing Annie Jun
Jr. at our middle school uh a week or so ago and it was just it was just amazing. It was really really a pleasure to watch those kids so talented and having such a good time. Congratulations to our director Michelle Taplan and all the people that she works with Vinnie Fanta Fontetta and uh just just a great experience. Um at the oh I do want to mention probably not the best note to end on but um we did have a snow day a couple of weeks ago as you know. Um, obviously it was an an easy one to call and we're still we still are feeling the effects of that snow day. But I do want to announce publicly um that that does mean that the additional day we build in our calendar, which is
the Friday before Memorial Day, is now off the calendar as a potential snow day. So there will be school um on that particular Friday. Uh again, you know how we build our calendar um and we do build in that day. We were able to last year take advantage of it, but um not this year. Uh and then finally, we're on the heels of a winter break. I think we are all feeling it uh desperately for a whole host of reasons. So, I use the opportunity to wish everyone a restful uh happy and healthy break and before you know it, we'll be into spring season. That concludes my report. Mr. D. >> Thank you, M. Dr. Harrington. At this particular time, our 12A board of education report. So, who would like to start first? Mr. Well,
I just wanted to mention one thing. Um, happened to have the pleasure of going to see the road show this past weekend. Um, it was a High School Musical. Uh, Mr. Dean Broio, did do you know what show it was? >> It's the High School Musical. >> It was a High School Musical. >> Yes. >> High School Musical, too. >> So, Oh, two. I told I I for those who weren't aware, I had mentioned to him that I went to see the show. It was a High School Musical, too. We said, "Oh, that's great. What was what was the show? the High School Musical. >> You're not going to start this all over again. >> So, you're not going to go >> High School Musical. He goes, "Yeah, I get that. What was the name
of it?" I said, "It was it was called the High School Musical." And we went on and on and on until I broke out into the who's on first routine. >> And something which um he'll probably never hear the end of, but that's all. >> Thanks. >> Me and Mr. Brown myself have this little ongoing thing going on. And I got to tell you that it was to the point where I hung up on him twice. So that's the kind of things we're in. Uh, okay. More board of education. Mr. Moresa, go ahead because I know Sandy, you'd like to go first? >> Well, I I do Mrs. Schaw. >> Go ahead. Sandy. >> Mr. Sch. >> I'll leave the details to Mr. Moresca. But I do want to congratulate congratulate Andrew Fry Ghoul and
his staff, all the directors, all of the adviserss, the middle school play, the high well the high school had high school musical too junior. Uh but and the elementary plays have up to this point been absolutely fantastic. And it is very easy to see why we have the top honor in New York State as a a um a district that is um for theater education from elementary through 12th grade. And that's something that no one else really does. They've many school districts have cut out elementary plays completely and we continue to do it and we continue to support the arts and you do you and your staff do um a great job. uh in in you know getting all that organized and it's really been delightful and I'm sure Mr. Moresca will give you the
details of every play but uh they've been wonderful. So thank you for all your hard work. It's really noticeable and thanks to our custodial crew and our security people uh because their attention to detail does not go unnoticed and it and that's what makes these shows successful too. So thank you. >> Thank you Mr. Shaw. Before we get to Mr. Mr. Musk, would you like to say something? >> Yeah, I have a just a couple of things. Not it's not too long tonight. First of all, congratulations to school three and also school number two. I had the pleasure of seeing the musical at school number three was Shrek uh junior and also the musical at school number two. It was u Disney's Finding Nemo Jr. I congratulate both schools. Very successful musical programs. The costumes,
the sceneries, uh the design, it was incredible. And I congratulate the teachers and especially the students and the parents who worked hard to make these productions worthwhile. [clears throat] Unbelievable. and to Andrew Foul and his two assistants uh Jennifer and Victoria Garrett for their coordinated effort. I plan to see another musical tomorrow night and I'm waiting to see if that young man is going to be in it. That's a tall trumpet player who um may be in the show and I'm looking forward to seeing it. I hope he is. And the last thing is the uh high school varsity and JV end of the year soccer dinner, soccer season dinner. What a successful program. What a turnout. All the the the parents and the teachers, I congratulate them for all the work and uh they
they put into it. And uh Tom Leman, you got quite a crew there. They did a nice job. And and at this time I turn it back to you, Mr. President. >> Thank you, Mr. Morris. It's always uh inviting to get your uh reviews on that. That's great stuff. U Mr. U Transm, anything? >> No, nothing for me, >> Miss Lui. I just Mr. Kaplan, two things. The Juanis Pancake Breakfast was a great job uh for Super Bowl Sunday. Um to everybody was involved. We thank the community for coming out and supporting it. Um it was a cold morning but it was well attended. Uh a lot of us we a lot of us know that you know through the efforts of the table sponsors and and the other sponsors and all the raffles tickets
it becomes a success. One of the main things that we pride on is that a lot of that money some of that money goes to children of camp kuanas and also supporting the other programs that we're partnering up with the doctor and with doctor and library that was uh an important thing. The other thing I'd like to point out, I know we're talking about musicals as my co-rustee um Mr. Blau points out, but I'd like to also say with um Mr. Frag Ghoul that we started these new musicals, the junior production, and before that, we used to have these other longer productions. And I felt that with the siblings that we had out there that it was a much more longer show and it was much more involved. And these junior shows are approximately about
an hour. Right, Mr. Ferggo? About an hour. So that lets families bring younger siblings because they're held during the week and sometimes on a week on a Friday, but it lets the uh siblings able to attend because it's only an hour. So the the you know the that that that that cuts down a lot and it also gets a lot more kids involved. So and of course they're down also. So a a big hand for that Mr. Fragul on that and I know that means a lot and when you come into this district you know I you were very much part of that idea and it's really proved to be successful to everybody especially the grandparents that attend also. You know, it's almost like an hour and a the big difference between an hour and
a half production and an hour and that and that means a lot to siblings and to grandparents. So, uh to that is uh very important. At this particular time, we're going to go uh seeing nobody else uh opportunities for comment on non-aggenda items, non-aggenda items, public comment on non-aggenda items. This is the opportunity for anyone who would like to make a comment on any item that is not on tonight's agenda. As I previously mentioned, state law does not require us to hold a public comment. Period. But this board of education does so because we believe it's important to provide this forum to hear our community members about concerns and issues. Having said that, please note that the board is here to listen. Comments should be directed towards the chair of the meeting, which is myself.
While everyone is encouraged to share these comments, please remember that this is not designed to be a question and answer session. If anyone has a question that could be quickly answered, we will do so. Otherwise, the appropriate personnel will follow up on any issue. Lastly, please remember that the board cannot and will not discuss personnel matters related to staff or students in public. At this particular time, any party wishing to speak up to the microphone clearly state your name and your child's school. Thank you for cooperation. Is there anybody at this time that would like to come up to the microphone and make a statement? Seeing none, I'd like to make get a motion to >> I make a motion to adjurnn. >> Motion accepted. Everybody have a good night. Stay safe. Enjoy the weather.
>> Pull it out again. >> I tried to make it. It didn't seem like Oh, maybe that's why. Oh, look. >> Enough time. I'm like, why is it not bright? Why is it bright? >> That's not your pen. >> Thank you so much. >> You sign on one side, one page, right? >> Yeah. I I turned in >> missing
