this is [Music] guys could you just hold your conversations i don't know if he realizes this is recording is i just heard different conversations and you know absolutely [Music] okay [Laughter] [Music] if i were to i would set my phone um do you guys have a copy of the goals i poured those to the board ready there were some kind of emails [Music] hi everyone we just had our new board member orientation so hey how are you um well we're setting this up um may nicole would you mind introducing yourself we have new board members and i just want to make sure that everyone knows how awesome you are and who you are sure i'm mike brown i'm the director of pps i oversee special ed health services that school climate social emotional learning culture

for readiness school counselors awesome thank you [Laughter] so okay so can i have um are we like ready to go okay can i have a motion to open tonight's meeting um for august 9th 2022 yeah i'll make a motion second any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries um and do you want to know melissa and elisa i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all i'm recommending motion to approve the revised august 9 2022 meeting agenda as presented any discussion all those in favor okay any opposed motion cavities dr morgan you don't have anything all right it's all you madam president there we go all right so uh let's talk

about our goals i know um nicole has really done a lot of work getting bored goals together for us we want to take this opportunity to review them dr morgan will make sure that goals are created for him and his team kind of like funneling up to our goals um we want our goals to be measurable but we also want them to be at that 50 000 feet right so we don't want it to be you know don van peek is going to come and say this um so we're we're really giving that overarching directive um but i think uh nicole um did a good job so far so do you have those decisions so i shared it in an email when i'm trying to get them to dance so she can hear that it

just arrived okay i'm trying to get them to dab so she can print them out for everybody okay so um let's let's move on and then we'll come back okay so um recommended motion that the board of education accept warrant number one and warrant number two as presented of the board of education except the minutes of the july 12 2022 meeting and the special meeting of july 26 2022 as presented any opposed motion cavities it took a minute okay um is anyone here for public comment tonight okay on fourth time so lucy let's start with you and board time well i just wanted assignments for committees so we have many meetings yet but okay looking forward to it good and you'll um you're on safety facilities the facility budget kind of got put together yes

it did okay good um allen do you have anything for portsmouth uh no but uh absolutely so i think lisa is yours [Laughter] one of the things that i do know about lisa is she's very good with connecting with the chair about an agenda and um policy is what we do like we create policy to really to build that so um so we can definitely talk and then lisa if you could reach out to dr roberts and make sure that um you know you set up meetings and he's very well versed in what what we're doing i will say that our former board member brian martin who shared it holds the record of policies updated in a year so i mean no pressure yeah no pressure but we might be asking for you to like

you know eat that um so no yeah um nicole um so we have the education committee which i don't have the right name what is it i think that's what i'm calling it but it probably has educational services awesome so um i have reached out to our admins and we are setting up a planning meeting to just kind of go over the charge of the committee and set up dates and times um so that'll be happening and as soon as we have that information right sometimes we'll get that to the board right i think it's going to be a great committee i'm excited about it um thank you megan nothing yet nothing yet nope okay christine yeah okay i don't have anything um no so i think that um you know we are only a

few weeks out to school so i think that that is exciting um we will uh the the middle school should be all up to date right by the time school opens pretty close uh so we should be pretty close hopefully we have a cafeteria not sure if we will or if we walk um i believe it so um so there's that and all the fall sports are starting and everyone's doing their practices and stuff so that's all good news and um teachers are coming back soon when did the teachers come back and when did the kids come back do we know because i don't know and then our second conference day is on the sixth and student's first day is the second awesome okay so when my son started kindergarten i had these dates memorized

he's going into the senior year i couldn't even tell you what the date is you don't think that's going to happen it does um okay very good thank you nicole are you ready to do this uh so nicole's gonna lead she did so much hard work on this um she's just gonna review the goals let's give them a read we should have read them in our email on feedback we can do some tweaking we can approve as is um does that work for you nicole yeah okay so i took a um there's a goal area so one was the academic social emotional overall continuous improvement if you remember that was brianna really wanted that term in there because we were focused in on a growth mindset so that was the first goal is really that

the academics like the students will continuously improve their social emotional well-being will be healthy be able to access their academics so if you guys wanted to change the wording on that you know it is to me sounds a little confusing because we have that continuous improvement in there but if you like it we can obviously discuss further and then for each one of these goals i i have action steps we didn't have them last year i'm not sure why i went back into the minutes of the meeting and i couldn't it wasn't there um i would i personally think that they're really important to hold ourselves accountable um to know whether or not we're moving forward in that goal area um the action steps for the first one which was to regularly monitor student performance

trends oversee the implementation of the teacher's district strategic plan and then you see for each one too i left these are suggestions and i left obviously blanks in case you want to add one [Music] the second goal really is the fiscal uh stewardship piece of it or financial resources our role as a board um it's one of our biggest responsibilities and to me and again and past conversations in previous years we wanted it to be transparent so we wanted this process to be transparent um the next goal was that safety piece we want to ensure that our facilities are safe and secure learning environments um and then finally to cultivate a climate of mutual respect collaboration and trust among all stakeholders that was a previous goal and i didn't know what to put there for

action steps so i just really need policies i feel like a lot of that falls under policy yeah one and i think um i know nicole is working on the code of conduct and i think that's where that becomes for me that's where that becomes like that trust you know like everyone knows the the rules of the engagement or the the i don't know what you call it like the swing lanes whatever the cool term is um but i like that and i uh so anyone have any comments or feedback on the goals just one i would think that we should have a benchmark to see you know how do we know if we achieve it if there's we don't know where we are so some ways we'll be able to evaluate to get something

interesting last year we had six meetings you know just new mirror okay that's great who doesn't love a benchmark so we could definitely work on that benchmark um i think for the um oh any other feedback yes it helps to have like numbers like kind of go toward a certain goal instead of everyone working on all the goals maybe some people have more interest in one than the other and kind of work not to not create a new committee would just be a little more involved with more than report back so everybody you know like sort of kind of spreading out our responsibilities so i think that's great and i think that the way the goals are lined up we could probably almost assign it to a different committee like um the safety committee um

for the state the state party you know on the the fourth goal could be like the policy committee make sure that we're we're doing all of that uh so i think that's a great idea nicole what do you think so it kind of lines up right so the first one would be that educational committee the second one would be budget i think the third one would be facilities same because if we're speaking with board for schools [Music] mutual respect um that could fall under educational you know policy which is kind of like the close conduct right too it kind of has a similar umbrella are they both to look for it yeah is it bad for both no i think it's false no there's two are you one policy no i'm not on policy i'm

on the quote the quote i guess nicole right to say you need someone if you need or i was thinking about involvement okay so i was thinking if you were on it last year just beyond this year was my thought but you know no pressure i'm fine with it okay we had brian too so there was two of us someone else wanted to have fun as well it's really honestly we listen more than anything but it's really helpful okay so the code of conduct nicole nate levine shares that it's got um administrators it's got parents it's got board members it's it's just got a collection of everybody and it's really an effort to redo or update our code of conduct so does anyone have an interest nicole what does it mean do you know we

haven't set the dates for for this school year so we need to be flexible so if anyone has an interest in that please let me know um and we can definitely have you attached to that yes um just a reminder that we also have a district committee the health and wellness committee um and we had a former board member that struggled or i was wondering if miss vancicle might be interested in even her background for health and wellness as well so luciano [Music] that's fine great thank you and then well so the grading committee we were going to have the educational whatever it's called foundation uh committee on [Laughter] so that we don't make this mistake at every meeting um but we were going to have it reviewed at that meeting and then see if

it needed to become an ad hoc group which we all felt that it did but we felt it needed to go through the committee to make sure okay so was there another little area that we should be looking at or we felt so i so my feedback nepal is i think these are great um i like that it touches on the main things that we need to really focus on i like how it aligns with our committees um i think we need another action step under the bottom two goals um i would like to see us for like the third goal but something about the capital bond projects because there's a lot of safety going in on those so you know we could just do some some nice fancy wording on that um and then

the climate of mutual respect i think we need to do something about the code of conduct um i think diversity equity and inclusion needs to be in there something that you know really draws that piece because there's a lot of work being done with staff students at the administrative level and i think it deserves that highlight i agree disagree with your number three something like uh hurricane staff buy into the importance of security i'll come up with something i keep being like in texas you know when they had that incident at elementary school everyone knew that like doors should be shut locked but it is almost gas where you i mean stabbed your knees yeah it comes every day you just need to go off your markers why is so important and in one of

the phases of the capital bond project we did um install door handle rules for safety yeah right so i think i think we should also i mean we don't want to advertise our safety plan but i think we should all know and parents should know that we've done we've taken a lot of steps to ensure our children our staff are safer than they were last year and a year i think we've brought that up in one of the last ones you don't want to publicize what you're using because then someone's going to find a way around that got it okay well we could have we've done in the past had a presentation from my joint presentation from safety committee members and uh this also kind of sheriff i think it was um but they shared

with board members an executive session yeah i think it would be really yes you know what the plan is the conversations have happened so who is the um admin in charge of safety lisa can you on this path can you put that together for us please um and we would like that an executive session um and and there could be a watered-down version for public section i think that's important because they do want our community to know that safety is of the utmost importance on to this board of education and to our administration and we definitely want to make sure our team that does call [Music] comments um we just got the information from transportation we will be adding that to it have a safety meeting and then it'll be put on the website for

public comment again but it will be rewarding perfect so if we can just add those couple of bullet points and have them ready for the next sport event meeting i'd like this to be on the meeting for approval does that work for all of you yeah i know there was conversation um about a software joe yeah that's what i'm referring to you are we're working on that okay yeah i just want to make sure that we have some sort of uh listen i had a conversation about it today so there's there's a couple of pieces to that but as nicole was saying that's something that we can discuss in executive session uh yeah yeah great so here's one of the things that i just thought i could hear about this week in this county there's

a real severe problem with the ems response and we are a rural school where we're not in city things like being at most of our most of the ambulances or volunteers i can't tell you how many times if you have a dire emergency you might not you could wait up from the other one floor guy and thank you very much for your hard work this is great you did a great job just real quick just for clarification you mentioned the council bond project for another um action step how would you what do you how would you incorporate it doesn't have to be that i just want for the safety piece i just we did a lot of work in the capital bond project so i think the safety presentation it would cover that but joe

if you could think of something for that safety plan or something around that like oversee the capital bond project could be yeah i mean i think that's simple like that um they just want to make sure that we do that as a presentation absolutely absolutely really quick um before we move on the benchmarks should we have something a benchmark for every one of these i think even as a board can we check in in december or january on these just to make sure we're yeah let's um yeah just so we can say okay we have these goals it's essentially like an update on the community on the committee work yeah so yeah but as a whole like say okay let's bring this out and let's just pull it kind of highlight what we and it

should be yes yeah yeah that way we're talking about the goals overall and that nicole's right in each board time we should be and i don't know if we need to formalize it like we can talk about that but as you bring up your committee on information you should talk about this is where we are towards the goal or this is what we've discussed towards our goals yeah yeah because i know we have great conversations now and then and then we get going during the year and it's just kind of nice to like revisit like that's let's remember kind of what we where we've come from that's a good point okay thank you that would be perfect yeah just pull it up that would be perfect thank you and do anyone want any more action

steps under the first one i think the benchmark would be good and then you know we could say we're creating an education community yeah i mean we are yeah all right so let's try if you have an idea for benchmarks let's get that to nicole so that we can get that added in um joe will think uh dr morgan will think of some bullet points if you think of any bullet points let's get that all going so that we can really have a nice gold and then you'll work on your goals perfect i'd like to get this approved before we go back to school if we can this is all about you thank you yeah um so i'm going to combine um consultant services payments one through five okay i recommended motion that the board

of education approved consultant services agreements between the ronda valley central school districts and number one two three four and five um august 1st 2022 through june 30th 2023 any opposed motion carries recommended motion that the board of education approved the school comprehensive education plan for the 2022-2023 school year as president [Applause] any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries recommended motion the board of education approved the district comprehensive improvement plan for the 2022-2023 school year as presented any discussion yes so um we've been in this now what year are we in for that it's an improvement this is our third full group so how many are we done after this year if we meet our benchmarks and well because state assessment hasn't counted during phobia they haven't given us the metrics for that

the last update that we received was we are to continue with the building level of district level plan and then in hopes that this year's state assessments will count and then we will provide it to the end so we are hopeful that might be able to be taken off and just for our newer board members can you tell them why we have this sure in 2018 data when the state looks at our data for performance and where we are compared to other light districts and students in different categories and sub-category sub-categories our students that were black and african americans did not perform at the level that they were expected to perform at and therefore the district puts us intermediate school as a targeted district a targeting school and then because we have a targeted school

then we are considered a district that is targeting we actually we actually also have one school that's distinguished school which is marble town so they're on the other end of this range of spectrum but since tobin the pandemic they've just held in a holding pattern and they're saying please just continue this work so when we first started this we had to do a half year program that also had an ela a math goal and an attendance school but then with the pandemic that they said okay you can use two at the building level to really focus on those pieces for students we know about seo community belonging and at the district level at the district level what we look at is the board's goals we look at um what our comprehensive improvement plan pieces are

what have we done in the district in regards to the five colors under nyu and we kind of succinct them because all of these pieces are happening across the board in the district and so it's a succinct document that gives us as i'm dr roberts um nicole and megan said various benchmarks throughout the year so we look at it and say this is what we are looking to achieve this is how we're looking to progress for that um once again is our hope that we will be taken off um for that however i do want to be um straightforward and to say one of my biggest concerns of dr morgan's concerns is that we want to be put on the list for chronic absenteeism based on the number of students that have been product absent

especially during poverty even though our members are starting to improve um we are concerned about that and to see what the state is going to do in regards to that so those are our concerns and the other concern that i always remind the board about is our percentage of economically disadvantaged students when i arrived in 2014 here we had um perhaps an on the lap plan for economically disadvantaged students it's just another name for this plan and then we also had um the intermediate school the junior high as well and we had to create these plans and find different strategies to work with all students to get off that to get off the list and we did we were successful in that and then um level of accountability that we are trying to work through

for all students we want our schools not only for our black and african americans but all our students to feel comfortable in our buildings and that's why the district level helps us keep those goals this year and this has surveys in it that were given to families given to the staff and faculty which is either really interesting to review two of the board members statements like students feel like they belong and there is in may 2022. the intermediate school says 48 agree which is surprising to me but because i feel like we've really made a very strong initiative and effort to make sure students feel like they belong um um one thing i will note that our district-wide committee has looked at is if you look at this status prior to copenhagen then through pandemic

and then as we're somewhat coming out of that pandemic um i will let you know that um lee mr fellow has also voiced that you know thinking about that and that's why you can see his plan has developed other goals to try to address that to really reveal that yeah so it's just really really interesting information and good for us to review as foreign members it takes it takes a lot of work the state gives money to districts who are put on a plan too and if any new board members would like to meet with me i will be more welcome to go over the world's plans and show you how it's put together so i'm just like a little bit surprised by some of the survey statements from our students students are often bullied

sixty-nine percent of junior high sixty percent of the high school agree with that achievement often bullied students are teased on are picked on about their physical or mental disability sixty-four percent of the high school said they agree with that scene and that is why we have this plan to address really bad the numbers don't seem to be improving over the three years and this is just like me getting that initial glance at it but the whole was the total amount of students that took the good question that information was not provided um the number of students that took it but our consultant miss eliano has that information yes our survey was a combination of a district-wide survey that nicole worked with the consultant on this and so we blended the questions from the survey applied

it in the district-wide plan but it also has more detailed information that nicole is working on so there'll be a a deeper discussion with the board on this we'll have a we'll have a more detailed report for the board on the district wide um but it does reveal a lot of very important information for us that we need to address and part of the and part of review of the um of the survey that we implemented in may is sharing before the plans we have to address that so it'll be this is this is what we've heard from the survey these are the action steps we'll be taking so it'll be more of a coordinated effort um the data from the plan are from the survey was reviewed with the administrative team at the administrative

retreat and nicole and her team gathered that information so we'll be coming back to the board please so um the way that state education works is they need to have this draft plan like august 1st so this draft plan has been sent to them um and we've had a few work changes etc since i sent it to the state and then what they do is they come back to the rubric and they will tell us any areas of what you need to improve we're very fortunate the last two years they've been come back with things to change so we're very i'm excited about that hopefully looking forward to that again but if there is i'll come back to the board i'll say these are the areas in which we haven't changed but we have to

give five different data sets and create the district improvement plan and we've been using the climate survey we've been using oss iss status we're using various pieces and in order for people to understand this that is why those data points are in here also knowing that you would be you will be getting a full presentation on final serving information and are we how is this kind of interacting or how is it working together with our strategic plans okay is it because it seems like it's a lot of the same similar stuff so i will speak to that and i'll kind of like walk you through those pieces so when we look at this and we look at the strategic plan as a district as well as in the buildings um i have my little cheat

sheets on this letting you know i know certainly can give us everybody or the debt to have but the two different strategic clinicals at the district level from the board um was an area gold student achievement does you're aware and planet culture based on those then we've looked at all the various things from our dc from the data and what we're doing in the district and for the comprehensive plan data governance as you know is a strategic planning piece this year looking at data wise as a new protocol having infinite campus and new management systems management system and then moving into illuminate which has three different um platforms that will be utilizing one which is fast fridge which is for our sorry um progress monitoring another one for content creation and stainless based assessments and

then the third piece which is for mtss and rti vibration which all comes into the data dashboard um so church planning meeting they went through those pieces and then said this is a priority of the district governments the other piece is attendance as i had mentioned chronic absenteeism is a piece that we're very concerned with so building principles all this here working with your teams have created a listing of all the different interventions they've used for attendance at the different levels using those streamlining them for next year and then seeing what other ones we can put together is the way that we're going to solve that problem together um social emotional learning and multitude of systems of support which is mtss that as you all know has been a focus of ours prior to the

pandemic but most germans are coming through the panda so having strategic interventions for that our new that assistance is going to help us um as director dei most certainly is um a part of that as well as um ms frerin in regards to looking at different ways that we can not only have academic but social emotional behavioral pieces together for mtss restorative practices as you know we have started that in the summer of 2018 we continue on that path to move away from alternative means of discipline to more restorative approaches we are going to continue with that professional development and that reward goal as well it's a way that we can increase our students feeling belonging the way that we increase students working together and decrease fully and decrease on exclusionary suspensions and then culture

sensitive construction of practices more certainly is something we need to look at across the board um that came out of some of the nyu work that median brand had started two years ago that's going to be continuing this year um under our directing ddi and underneath that one of the things we notice that's important is the materials we're using the way in which students experience themselves in the classroom with their students we need to be culturally sensitive and make sure that we have sound instructional practices um to target that and to assist all of our teachers in those difficult conversations as well so looking at those pieces that's what pushed us into this however i just want to briefly speak about the five colors then while you you can see we're very close you have

mtss same thing via pd and different ways for development family community engagement data systems as well as restorative practices and then looking at all of these priorities as a district we've welded down to our repeating priorities as well so that it's across the board all interchanged instead of having this over here this over here this over here they're all what we need just to explain the acronym acronym mtss it's multiple tiers of student support and that includes not just academic but social emotional behavioral so it's looking at the whole child so that is one of our focuses it's one of the focuses in the strategic plan and it's also something that we're looking at to move forward with our work with nyu so at some point i think it would be really helpful because like

we'll approve this tonight just right as it is but it goes on you guys meet regularly on this right in the progress that you're making or right yep we could get an update okay absolutely yeah to see where we're going hopefully those numbers um those survey numbers are done again in may of 2023 however right at the building level we have various surveys and you will see throughout our just recoveries absolutely even with next june you know when we get out of that probably in january on the next climate survey i hope that we do yeah i think it's important especially the bowling piece so if i can kind of jump back to the course real quick the last goal to cultivate a climate of mutual respect collaboration and trust i suggest adding you know

restorative practices and training for for our district um and then updates on or if you want to discuss the district's comprehensive [Applause] um i understand some of the detail that she's going into that could help build yeah i know this takes a lot of it takes up a lot of time thank you for doing it it is [Music] recommend motion of the board of education approve the following textbooks as presented any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries miss pat could you um please wait for us absolutely thank you recommended motion that the board of education create the position of assistant superintendent for student support services as presented any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries recommended notion that the board of education created the position of special education coordinator any

discussion sure of course so because we're creating these positions do we eliminate the that's a good question well in my conversation with our hr attorney um his position is it's it's a distinction without a difference so whether or not you put somebody into the position once you put somebody into the position that creates the position so by moving moving these people out of this position or appointing them that physician doesn't really so it's not necessary to create i guess what i'm saying is it's not necessary to create the position before you fill it you can appoint somebody into a position with the title so the board will be simultaneously creating the position and appointing somebody to it and then deleting the old position or we don't have to worry about what you're deleting the old

position because the person's been their title has been changed okay so that's what he means by there's a there's a distinction without a difference it doesn't so just so the communities where we're not creating new positions we're renaming correct yeah i just thought that would be important to mention i think it is we already have people doing that particular job we're just better identifying the work that they do exactly so we're not creating additional positions with additional salaries good point um oh all those in favor and the opposed motion carries recommended notion that the board of education approved the revised personnel report recommended by joseph morgan superintendent [Music] i gave you my copiers thank you okay um yes you made the motion i said second any [Music] is oh no it's just reappointing from last

year so it's a carrier okay the position technically ended in the last year but we have an environmental facility any other discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries and our president i just would like to introduce ourselves we have with us erica field who is our new kindergarten teacher and martial [Applause] i love it and we also have ethan moore with us who's our new intermediate school music teacher [Applause] [Music] welcome aboard this is awesome and also like to congratulate uh megan um [Applause] okay um to our new assistant superintendent could you please read your session thank recommended motion to accept the recommendations of the committee on special education and committee on preschool special education to authorize the arrangement of special education programs and services for the students as presented i'll link the

question recommended motion that the board of education approved the consultant services agreements numbers two three four five and seven effective july 1 2022 through june 30th 2023 is presented any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries recommended motion with the board of education approve the agreements for non-resident special education enrollment for the following as presented i'll make a motion okay any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries thank [Music] any discussion all those in favor any opposed no she carries recommended motion that the board of education approved the surplus from building droughts as presented any discussion got a question sure i think i broke this up last time do we does this stuff get auctioned off most of it does um see steven t works on seeing what candy options are

okay we're supporting your feet [Music] okay all those in favor any opposed motion parents recommended motion of the board of education except for financial reports for june 2022 as presented recommended motion based on the recommendation our superintendent and business official the board declares the deficit for current year loss occurred in the school lunch month at january 2022 an ordinary contingent expenditure and events would budget to increase the interference transfers to school lunch fund name out of 43 35 to be funded from appropriated fund balance i'll make promotion i'm sorry any discussion here sorry yeah sure um just to just to be clear this is a deficit from last year of 43. right and where did that deficit come from just in the sea fund so strictly just the food service um it's a lot smaller

episode than we see exactly i know obviously we were supported last year so where where does the where does this actually come from it's like what category if you will oh like exactly yeah um i mean it just depended um i mean most of the fun is salary um like the general fund so it just really it was a matter of participation to get meal reimbursement back that really like pulled the gas so there wasn't necessarily anything done differently on the expenditure side but more or less more participation with free lunch all year round so it's it's like outstanding builds no um no it's just it's just i mean the sequin runs as like a scandal in business so it's not in the past it's pretty much running deficit in the past five years so

it's just this year the difference is the deficit was closed by the higher meal rate reimbursement and do we do we kind of account for that each year in creating the budget knowing there's going to be a substantial deficit yep yep i mean since i've been here revenue has to match expenditure and when it doesn't it has to be made up by an air fund transfer from general funding yeah so in the past it's been saved yeah yeah yeah like a lot right and and i think what they had said it corrected me if i'm wrong is it was mostly in salaries and health insurance and stuff is where that we saw the biggest deficit right and that came from like changes in the year i'm just trying to understand if you know somebody's salary

how do you have a deficit at the end of the year did you clear up the line items no it just doesn't i mean at the end of the year it's a deficit we know it ahead of time but you the revenue has to the revenue from the school lunch has to match the expenditures part of the expenditures are salary and benefits so at the end of the year the general fund has to make up the difference thank you we had 2020 and 2021 you had hardly any kids in the building purchasing anything right for quite a while too so that's that's probably now you've got more kids yeah all those in favor any opposed merchant carries recommended motion resolve that the board of education on the recommendation of the school business official authorizes the

following transfer to our funds pursuant to education law 3651 an amount not to exceed 424 shall be transferred from the unreserved unappropriated balance of the 21-22 school-year budget to the capital reserve fund for the purpose of funding capital projects other legally permissible regions that's the new fund that we set up right that the public approved and um when we improve the budget section 1318 of the new year state real property tax law requires the tax warrant state the amount unexpected surplus funds in the custody of the board of education and that such surplus funds have been applied in determining the amount of school tax yeah you're good i'm gonna give you a um in terms of last year we kind of got them we got a few letters from senior citizens who wanted us to

take a look at and get any help with this terminology um certain senior citizens that they make under a certain amount right they pay less in taxes so that amount is ours is much lower than other ulster county i'm sorry it's higher regards higher than other schools around us other districts around us so a lot of our senior citizens you know are having a hard time paying their taxes so i when we had this discussion it was too late to do anything about it it's march or something like that when we have to act so if just giving you a heads up maybe we could look into what that might look like if we did lower the amount am i saying that correctly to lower the amount the threshold it would take for people to

qualify for tax exemption i think we need to look at it and i think budget needs to make sure that it's covered yeah that could be on the radar that's a good point because the deadline is march so it needs to be looked at prior to march before the vote right so when people started to write into us to make us aware of their concerns um it was it was just too late for us to act so if we didn't i would like this just to collect the information and have a conversation in at least 15 years right at least yes thank you typically relevant to what we're looking at right now just wanted to mention thank you all those in favor any of those motion counts um this name is the lead recommended notion

of the board of education approve the consultant services agreement between uh school district and gender spectrum effective august 9th 2022 through january 2023 as presented [Music] i just want a little um clarification on this what the services services are no the the only services they will be providing is professional development starting with their administrators on what uh gender inclusive schools as well gender inclusive schools is a framework that teaches empathy and respect for all students that helps both school staff so that this including professional development just for school staff to understand uh the variations in gender diversity within our own community and be able to anticipate that and to provide you know an inclusive teaching environment so for example questioning limited portrayals of gender in history and through literature so the same way we're providing

professional development for staff around culturally responsive education gender inclusive schools creates a structure whereby all of our students are valued and respected and it also helps educators to understand that generations of schools benefit all students not just specific students how does it fit into our overall professional development plan yeah right now we have a training scheduled for administrators this summer and then after that training we will determine how and when to roll up to the rest of our staff as appropriate it's important for our administrators to be able to you know make sense of new information and uh begin that process of identifying over our evolution district how does this relate to our economic tuition goals how does this relate to the data that we're seeing survey where we know a large number of our

students are experiencing going that helps staff to build what we call gender literacy understanding what gender is how it's expressed differently among you know very new students and how we can ensure that we're creating a school fund and culture that is responsive to our but the contract would allow us to provide the two or three hour training for all of our staff as well do you have a say in the content or the you know the agenda if you will absolutely yeah they work collaboratively with school districts i want to know what are what are the questions that our staff or our community have you know what are our needs but there is also an overall framework of understanding what what gender inclusivity means so it really is a sensitivity training so i think just

my own personal thoughts on it i think that before we roll it out to staff beyond the admin level that it kind of be part of the larger framework of like our professional because i don't think that's a piece of it now but i'm not sure so i just just kind of like it's do you want to speak mr chuck so our professional development we'll be seeing that at your next board meeting as well we have another meeting um on the 10th that's tomorrow so just some memories this week and those goals are restorative practices social emotional learning data-driven decision-making multi-tiered systems of support and culturally sensitive instructional practices of our already existing plan correct awesome thank you that's nice all those in favor aye aye opposed motion carries recommended motion to adjourn the august

th meeting uh for 2022. any discussion all those in favor any opposed motion carries be safe everyone have a great evening yeah you got to sign something lucy [Music] very small
