for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all right this causes somebody to hire people to collect s I'm sorry you're not making any money we're just going in the circle yeah I I didn't realize the East Church of that everything yeah um so first order business can we get a motion to approve the agenda mark I think that so I'm having a hard time because of this Peter but did you say first no give it to Mark and Nancy I couldn't hear on this side where it was so Nancy and Mark heard of the profession uh any discussion and then remember consent agenda we don't discuss unless we want to pull something off okay perfect so all in favor of accepting the agenda I any opposed thank you

guys so now we're on the consent agenda can I get a motion for the consent agenda I think it was Nancy and I suppose sorry I don't know how to turn it off there's no you can't maybe you shouldn't really keep yeah do you want me to go find Penny yeah thank you I'm just going to adjust by hearing aids they'll turn down the teachers should have been it is great so I think that's gonna be better um okay so consent agenda I think it was Nancy and Joe or Justin right okay so all in favor of the consent agenda all right and then now we're down to public comments Republican [Music] uh not really as a member of public and it might not be the right time but I just want to thank your

friends there are some changes but he still gets to hang out we get to hang out with him public meeting right thank you if he wasn't still here in some capacity I I would have said I don't agree bread is awesome for so financial report we're going to go ahead and move on to Cindy and she does have some notes for us that she's handed out in the drive so Cindy go for it the budget status report is in Google Drive as well as the budgetary transfer report um it's a fairly short transfer report so included it on my notes most of the transfers are self-explanatory but does anyone have any questions on them I do Cindy the AED machines that were included in the budget where were they normally budgeted would that be by

building and grounds going to be by principles usually I like to budget it in the uh the buildings and grounds Safety Code we actually have a seat that Scott who who's oversees that connect code so that's why I usually charge it there to the defibrillator but the question is these are probably replacing outdated ones sell them they're additional the problem is the past so our AED machines are only eight years old they are uh not being manufactured any longer but they're not updated however we have to replace the battery pack which is in the pads every year and our battery packs have been on order since March with no guarantee of when they will arrive and so um yeah what we talked about we can't use them the company said you you cannot leave them

in service at the battery if the pads are outdated because the batteries won't work so we talked about could we will get away with seven and see how long until the battery but but they're not making this machine anymore so at some point they're going to stop making the pads so we felt it was better it's better with all of the AEG machines matching the district because we have we have all the same supplies for them so that's what we're purchasing exactly is that the total number we all need that's the total number that we own okay correct it's a supply issue correct and we're going to replace them correct because what was budgeted was the Thirteen hundred dollars for the new pants um so we're going to replace them the batteries are different and

the new machines so they're separate from the pad when I read that it looked like it was overlooked right you're trying to see who's supposed to be buying it yeah we're stuck in the supply chain s there's 18 all together right now yes even a little bit dewy or something yeah yeah anywhere our kids are plus we have some portable ones so when they play um when they play like back on the fields behind the Civic Center yeah we have then she's there thank you do they um do they do who gets training on those is there almost half so all of our staff who um have first aid training um so all of our coaches um we have Jenna and staff also because anybody on field trip you have to make sure that somebody's

on your field trip has training um of course our nurses do and they're really pretty self-explanatory if you pull them out it's got a picture uh you turn them on there's a picture so stand it speaks to you and tells you what to do thanks any other questions for um Cindy regarding the vegetarian transfer to the warrants okay if not can I get a motion for resolution number zero three nine 2022 authorizing the budget transfer report as presented first and Zach and then any additional comments or discussion all in favor aye any opposed it's much better and it's a reminder that the warrants are in the folder in the Google Drive and on the back of my notes just two little things not the direction okay this evening the board pointed to Allison Martin a

senior counselor from the business office effective Monday uh Allison will mainly be doing payroll and human resources related she's currently a senior type of controller so nice girls in there really happy to have her and also we're currently advertising for administrative Aid which they'll be their main duties will be accounts payable and tax Collections and um as well as an accounting supervisor which is the new position I filled out the Forum there's an MSD 222 that has to go to civil service and they D but the title is correct for what the duties are and they approved it so we're good to go on that and that is the person that would cross train yes okay that's it perfect any additional questions for Cindy regarding finances if not we'll move along to unfinished business and

then we'll be signing into information so we are we are finalizing the agreement on the mascot work and the question had been asked about how we wanted to move forward and I think it would be time for us to put a committee together to oversee this work and make some decisions that the um the options are wide open and so I think a little committee doing this work will be able to narrow down how they'd like to approach the mascot work and then oversee that roll out so people are going to need that I know I know you've got you've got extra little ones coming very quickly but this was your baby so I guess I'm really looking for you as to how you might like to handle this as we start moving forward and

making decisions on how we want them to look what you think we ought to do yeah I mean I think I think having a subcommittee um of the board to kind of so the purpose would be for that subcommittee to kind of be in touch with BSN and kind of like so correct so BSN is happy to set this up however we want it if we wanted directly to have BSN create some mascot ideas for us that the community voted on or the committee shows they would be happy to do that if the committee decided what they would like is artwork from the community to be submitted BSN we've cleaned that up like so so we we need some direction on how we want to go about actually um choosing options for the mascot and

then how we would go about actually choosing a mask I think it really makes sense I love the part of that committee um but come on speak for you but assuming you guys the last time you might have some interest in it too and then I think keeping the committee relatively small makes sense never see everything that we do we come back to the board to share updates but uh I mean so I I am definitely not going to step away from this because it's a good excuse to go I can't help with the twins she doesn't watch on YouTube yeah we should consider um going Forest Morgan our athletic director yeah I would suggest uh at least a coach maybe a coach that's not in season right now I would suggest representation from the

student council student council I'll report on this there but they actually run our whole homecoming most people won't know that but uh I would say student councils across the schools too yeah I mean it's yeah this is more than just an athletic thing so well and we can bring um I would happy beyond that committee too um and we're we are allowed three um people on a committee but I think you could bring different people in at different phases so um once you get to a certain point maybe bring the younger kids in yeah I mean things like that so you're involved you should involve students all levels um definitely people in the athletic World coaches Forest part of the charge of the committee would be dudes detailed the process by which this will be

reviewed and approved when we went from Redskins direct storm the approval process was a student vote that was it most students were the students that were here at that time obviously and what I'm here for Justin is I'm probably ought to at least considered a little larger uh population when we do this we are a school of the community yeah I think it makes sense to down the line I think it makes sense to certainly do a full uh when we come down to some options or we arrive at that polling the students I think it makes sense well in the community as well and if we have differing opinions we can address that when we when that if it happens but and taking our time that this makes sense because I think Joe called

the story some neighbor years kind of like good luck with that I mean this is it's not going to be easy and no matter what we do some people aren't going to like it but if we can make sure that most people who are involved in a group of them there's not really a pressing issue at the moment right where you run into a little bit of a block is it you have no Uniforms over next year to be able to kind of make that but Nancy you said it under here so you mentioned a coach um I don't do we had we wanted to think about representation on the committee too so do we um I just don't know if I don't understand the best course of action would be if if the three

of us are going to be on the committee then maybe we meet and go over the information that Diane has from the company and then we say let's attack it this way okay and then we're talking about it in the committee um and we can set up the process by which we're going to do that one of our board student refs maybe a good personal quote that this will go smoother be more inclusive and follow stakeholders aren't long you just say hey this is what it is just like it then it's probably not going to be good Mark are you number three on the clinic I'm here and I'm going to chair oh I'm here Justin congratulations standards but uh not really no we I mean we as a board we went through some things

a few years ago but there's not like an individual who does it you know it might be you know one of the things that we shouldn't Overlook here is you know our own art department and our students we throughout the years of producing incredible art students matter of fact a young woman who was a student of mine so I was not so young people but she ended up working for GM in their fabric design for their automobiles in the schools now you know we we got we got some homegrown to happen yeah you can talk about you Jeff Foster I mean Amazing Just One of ourselves so a lot of people and I like the idea of being able to get artwork for the community and then the company friends that's a unique skill yeah

because you can only use certain colors and you have to make it look like you know like this it just if I I understand primarily like we talked about this in the sports arena but I would assume this is the logo like the band would use you know you know like other threads so just thinking outside like like you're talking about you know even in our theater and stuff like that that there's probably a ton of really effective kind of perspectives you can often it goes on our letterhead or on a website yeah it's much bigger than the sports yeah I think you would want input from all the different areas yeah those great students Council Sports community staff but the process has to be in place because otherwise it's going to be a messy

so we need to establish the process and then we can go from there it'll be interesting with BSN comes up with because as I said before first go around on this of course we've just changed it it was difficult well as you know we didn't lose satellites make the volunteer in the chairman yeah appreciate that it's good to go we should double his birthday okay so we will go forward with with that uh decision then so now if if we're done with that we'll go ahead and move on to the capital project update and that is Diane so just keeping everybody in the loop I've had a conversation with Eric Robert and a conversation coming up with Mosaic when Anne was here to talk about the energy performance contract I'd had an initial conversation with

our construction management company and the architect and design company that you can actually go out with an RFP before the EPC I love all these initials so you can go out with a request for proposals before the next part of the energy performance contract is done so they kind of align in order to move it along quickly because you have to have it out for so long Nancy's shaking her head you stop me when I'm wrong man you know much more about this than I do but after speaking with Eric and his conversation with Mosaic I was he called me it was so cute because he went around the bush and I didn't want to interrupt him because he had a Spiel like ready to go but I knew exactly where we were going in

order to do this in the most prudent fashion even though it would save us a little money up front by not having to have work going on for two different Summers at the end of the day in order to know what we want to send to State Ed for our friend of our Capital project we need to know what pieces are in the energy performance contract and really in order to do that we have to do the next piece which is the walk through there were questions about I think it was you Nancy was asking about the LED lights well we've already done that like we don't really know what the EPC can hold until they're actually on site and touching your things and looking at them and we do not want to do a

bit about a shove with maybes to State at with the HVAC that we think we might do on the cattle project because that brings us to every meeting having change orders because what they thought we'd be doing is quite what we're doing so I agree with Eric Bert and I have talked about it really the best thing for us to do is to break the second part of the capital project into two pieces we are ready to go to state Ed with the boilers at Bloomingdale with the track and with the paving pieces and send that on so that that work would be done next summer this would give us plenty of time for the EPC project to actually be done right and thoroughly and then we would look at whatever we had left in

the budget and prioritize the rest of the HVAC work that we weren't able to do that's not part of the energy project and so that package to stated and it would all be done at the same time we wouldn't be touching part of it one summer touching part of the other it would all be done in one whatever we could afford left in the capital project in in alignment with the EPC all done at the same time probably the extra cost for construction management Eric wouldn't have somebody here full time next year because he would need somebody here every day because of the work that's being done he really thinks by aligning the work for the HVAC there would be some Savings in that because it'd be a bigger project somebody would want that project

and it may not come out even but it would be a better project in the long run and I agree with that and we we did some of that when we did phase one they weren't really ready to submit and we rushed them to submit so that we could hit the timeline in order to bid it out and we we saw some of that come back to bite us so I think we're Once Bitten Twice Shy and agree that we've got a solid package to go to say that we're comfortable with work we know we can do next summer months with the rest of it play out and be thoroughly reviewed before we try sending that to stay dead and make a mess of it and just for clarification when you say next summer you

are actually meeting the summer of 2023. so next summer which is 2023 we would do the track we would do the boilers at and we would do pavement yes I'm sorry yeah sorry about that yes the boiler at Bloomingdale and the paving okay and then in the summer of 2024. we would do the HVAC work yes energy performance well what what hopefully whatever Falls up correct and there's not there won't be things outside of either of those projects everything that isn't in the energy performance country that would think we would have money left or will happen in 2023 in this cycle it can happen in 2023 because there's still more because there will be money so when we do the boilers when we do the track and when we do the paving there will still

be some money left from the capital project to spend okay and we had originally talked about trying to finish this building there are still pockets in this building where the HVAC is not done but we're hoping that some of that can go in the energy performance contract which would then allow us to shift but we also are hoping that the air handling units can go in the energy performance contract but there's going to be some pieces that don't fit and so we'd like to see what does fit what our number is actually because you're right it's a percentage savings like he may tell us today it's 2.3 to 2.6 but when they actually kind of do the walkthrough that could change so we want we want to do the architectural and Engineering work kind of

hand in hand with the energy performance with what we would spend the rest of our Capital project funds on so there will be some more yes yes we'll have to submit well we have to submit to States anyway right yeah right so that's exactly right we would submit what we have for next year's work for 2023 right and then the other things in the EDC would be submitted for 2024 right yeah so that's where we are we had talked about kind of trying to rush the project to get it to 2023 and because it's not a stand-alone EPC but we're going to hook it to our Capital project it just became the minute you're rushing that kind of stuff uh nothing good comes with that well and that's a lot of work to be getting

done during the summer I mean that's a good step forward to get those things taken care of do we have any type of drafts of what gonna the work that's gonna happen out here are they just replacing existing or like I know we have a problem with the drainage so did they expect something I actually I can get that for you okay um I should have put it I did put in the drive there were questions about what was in the overall project like how the project was going to be spec so I did put some of the initial information in the drive for you the initial breakdown of what we were working on what's left for round two what we thought would be in round two but that is but some of that was

done correct early in some of the early stuff wasn't correct yes but also it would be good plans for our um our little speed pump alley there I could show you what we're doing there and hopefully there's at least one less speed bump if they don't take anybody these car pieces off um as Suzanne knows who's not here yes I will I will send you that because it is all pretty close to done okay and uh I'll send you all those pieces Abby if you just want to drop in the drive yeah I'll do that that would be great yeah because you get those um do they have the walkthrough schedule not yet but we have a meeting of all the involved parties scheduled for the 27th okay it is moving there's a lot of

hands in the pot so it takes a little while for all of us to get together but we are we are remaining on the 27th to move that forward all right perfect um any additional comments questions for Diane on the Kappa project if not we'll go ahead and move along to new business um Diane are you handling the policies or is that Joe um Joe would you like to or would you like me to I think you have a better sense of process okay so I have put in the drive each of the policies that's in front of you and this is the first reading so there's opportunity for input um they are usually approved with the second reading but there is no requirement that there's only two readings and they're done you can make

multiple changes as we see fit so what you'll find in the drive is three different pieces you'll find The Miz boss suggested policy and the news about suggested policy has some gray boxes that explain to you why they're suggesting changes to that particular policy so if you want to cheat sheet those gray boxes are a great cheat sheet for you also in the drive and that is so in so in the ones that are selected um the underlying oh I'm gonna get there yes you're ahead of me but yes we're gonna get there so the the gray box is the original that nisba says here's the new updated policy you'll also see if there is one our current policy we just take it off out of our policy book and put in there for you

and what may have happened in the past is that a previous board updated a policy and put in some of their own language so we don't just say okay here's the Nismo policy the suggested policy we're just going to adopt it we need to look at that policy against the policy that we already have in place to make sure that we didn't make changes along the way that we might want to include and so Aurora is reading the suggested the SL suggestive policy if that's underlined that is new language that came into the policy if it is uh highlighted in a color that is language that is in our policy that was different than what is in the suggested policy so the so just to repeat that again if it's highlighted from color which is

red yes that means if Arctic was in it was in our policy already yes and it wasn't in this response correct and then it's underlined that's an is the suggestion correct that's this doesn't suggestion included in our policy what's the logic with the changes in all the shells in the will is it just what yes languages what is though which one are you on are you all 100 right now I'm on a 100 but yeah I mean it just seems like a trend shells are being changed to will they are because we're required by the uh We've updated the first paragraph to reflect various amendments to the laws regarding protection against discrimination also modify the lingers throughout to be gender neutral and remove the use of the word shell and suggest corresponding changes to the

associated because the law says we will be doing these things it's not that you shall shell is like yeah that's what these little gray boxes are really pretty informative and so they're actually a good place to sort of start is to read the gray boxes that are in the news with sample houses all right if we got all day you can read every policy all the way through but I think that so when we first met with the policy community first it was like like it's dead it's really especially these These are kind of upfront because they were not much change and they're pretty boilerplate and so it's really not much to tourism must have changed and the reason that there's the highlights and on the lines let's make it clear what was changed anytime

that there's a highlighted thing it's that we had it there it was just kind of like us going a little more than what this required to work in the middle right so these ones I think there will be policies that lead to a lot of discussion these are pretty straightforward yeah and and these this first group um are really all based on changes in the law there's there's not a lot of nuances to what we want to do as a district they're they're all based on Federal and State law well that was my question so these were sentences at least that was sent to us from for evaluation not once he chose to evaluate so no these were sent because there was a change and that we needed to so we're starting with those that

are required and of those I've just worked our way through the policy book so yeah there's no particular order except for the order of the policies I have to thank Melissa she's here tonight because she was a trooper I had all these and I'm like can you all help me and Melissa even took some of these on her little trip with her one day she took a while it's a lot of work to read them line by line by line to find the changes because sometimes they're very like this one has the word transgender status like that's the one piece of change and so um thank you Melissa she's now our policy expert but uh and then the the stuff is underlined I know it's coming from suggested but it is it is um is

it required language does that make sense so that's a really good question and the answer is the answer is if it's in the if it's underlined and in the SL suggested policy it's because it has to be there correct okay so we shouldn't change the wording on that it has to stay as is okay um any question for uh Joe or Diane or Melissa on the policy or Justin or Justin or no Tori right Tori's on it as well I uh in all honesty I did not get a chance to read through all these but I did not know what we could change and what we could not change this sound like there's a lot of room to change not a lot of fluff in this first house [Music] I was just like do we

really have to explain that but if they're saying it has to be in there then it's helpful to know how that process works too and the way we interact with is the which is useful crafted policy the uh there are a lot more policies for me and I'll put them in the drive just like this and I'll try to put them in the drive early like our next meeting we'll have these as a second reading but it will also have a set of first readings and I just does everybody know that you can watch us build all of this like you have access to the drive the whole time so if you're just sitting at home wondering what to do um you can see that it's actually pretty cool you can see that they're in

there working yeah I'll try to get those into the drive for you um so you have some time if you want to look at them if you have suggestions for changes please feel free to just email the group or to me however it works for you and then we'll highlight suggested changes for our second reading if any of the board people have um suggested changes is there any guidance on how we have to publish these I mean is it acceptable for us to Simply publish them on our website or do we have to actually um send them out or anything I actually have a oh I'm sorry go ahead I was just gonna say it says right in there if they have to be yes even in the beginning of the school year or do

they have to be given on the paper so I know as a matter of fact and I actually have done that this year uh for our staff the last couple of years because of covet they actually have a link because everybody has access to a computer there's actually a link and they just need to sign off that they've read them by having them electronically is okay but like our non-discrimination we put that on our hiring website we put that on someone so so it is out about uh and uh I think it is in our hiring folders that will have to be updated and I think there's a blur for anybody who's new so um yeah there's a whole list of things that have to go out Here There and Everywhere I have a little

cheat sheet from nisbah about what has to be posted where but electronic is acceptable electronic is acceptable okay have any other questions for Diane belong to B which is uh and I need a motion for this one because it's a resolution so if I can get a motion for resolution number zero four zero 2022 approving the Petrova Elementary School comprehensive Improvement plan for this year Joe Joe is first and then Nancy is the second and then discussion I'm assuming uh Diane you're amazing myself I can uh as you know we've been doing this many years because covet has slowed down this process so we made it to a list before covid and the list has just continued through code um so you have approved this every year and um Petrova has continued with it with

its three commitments the first one of course being students um involvement and feeling of belonging and second one is curriculum method so they uh and and they use their positivity project as their priority which is um based on Research at least the same plans that are as they've been updated they get up they get updated each year we we have to do student interviews we use our we surveys that we do once a year we have to survey uh the community and our faculty and our kids um and so all of that information is reviewed and the plans are updated not each year um are these in where are these on the website they should be in your drive and there's a folder for them yes I mean School comprehensive there you go are they

the cep s yep so if you click on that that's it there you go I wanted to ask about the updating just and this is for the Middle School fish we're talking about right now but it still has principle that's because it was actually done they're done before they ended up okay yes I I thought maybe that before so my confusion with these is that it's comprehensive Improvement plan and these are comprehensive education oh sorry does that make a difference no it can we just change that to education plan yes nope that's okay that's why I didn't think they existed on here it might come up apologize for that okay that's a good question about these okay these are required by the state that is correct what's the end point of these the goal is

to get off of these right yes how's that going I think it was probably messed up by copen that's that's where we are we're sitting in a holding pattern because it's based on your three through eight test scores um right attendance some other pieces and so during covet there was no testing so do maybe this is a Justin question do schools get off these plans because we know that test scores are highly influenced by econometric equality so like I guess are we gonna have actually have control over the things that will get us off of this process so nobody likes to be identified by the state of New York as an underperforming District or building or subgroup on the other side of that we received 325 thousand dollars a year um and we have worked

with PLC now for several years and believe it or not the work that we've done around this has been really valuable um the and it is a group of people who have identified the needs in a particular building this curriculum work came through the work that we did around how are we going to improve our our test scores and student achievement and so a lot of what we do is anchored right in this work so I don't want to be on a list but I have to say the work that we've done with the state over the years has been valuable um a heavy lift sometimes a pain but overall and there's funding connected to it a lot of times let's do this list and uh you know find the money for it but this

year as you can see in the Middle School it's providing a math AIS teacher there is no question that middle school math has been a real deficit area for us and because it's 225 000 for the middle school we can afford an AIS teacher tucked into this um it covers the cost for the District of our Lee surveys the surveys that we do it covers a lot of accounts for our substitutes for the curriculum work there's just I don't want to be on the list but I would like to be off the list and still be okay with with doing the work connected to it and the money that's attached to it because it has an ad it has really been and it's been a good we were not pleased to get on the list

it was a heavy lift to get the process going and the work going connected to it but we've now been on the list since 2019 2018 I'm not quite sure when we started so actually um we're kind of we're on the train moving forward it's not as heavy a lift but it's good work that we're doing because of having to do a full review so even though it's been delayed and extended because people are still making money for it correct so I'm hearing so normally we we use an outside educational consultant to help us do the plan the review they come in they interview kids each level has a different list of requirements and they come in and do that as the outside educational expert and usually we can put the cost of the next

year's plan work in our 325 thousand dollars and they did not allow that this year because they think that they will be doing some movement with the list next spring instead if you're on the list next spring if you continue to stay on the list there will be additional funds available to help you with the cost of creating your plan for the following year so I'm taking from that that they are planning on doing something with the list by next spring I think that into the main point that there's nobody that used to wants to be on a list but it's not it's really not meant to be a punitive thing it's meant to say hey you're in our state there's tax dollars that everybody pays for education for children we're going to allocate extra

money to you because you clearly need this and we all know there's lots of different reasons why achievement scores aren't great um one is certainly socioeconomic issues but there's other ones we teacher turnover is a huge part of that too but I think that's I think I would I'm glad to use the other idea a lot of schools freak out and want to get off and as soon as they can I think they're being like singled out and punished and really expect to be helpful a lot of times those kinds of problems are if you don't fix it we're not giving me the funding yeah and that would be the total obstacle way to prove it which is not equity right um that's helpful thank you how do we do the surveys please I mean

not how as in how do we um execute them but questions like how do we come up with the questions is there a standard set of questions so two different ways um we use the lease service which are on our you know National and so the questions are established okay surveys okay they're they're in there are repeats so we've done the lead service we used to do them before we were identified we did them every two years they're just good data to see what's going on um and once we were identified we have to do them literally so when you ask like what do we look at each year one of the things we look at is are we where are we on our ways are we survey we pick the nice thing about the

least surveys is there are questions for adults and questions for kids and they actually align and how do they align is our perception in the adult World matching the perception in the student world and um how can we go about aligning those um so that's the we survey but there's also surveys of of Staff the middle school because it's CSI and I think the Petrova I apologize I don't know that but I I'm I'm thinking yes there are interviews with staff and interviews with students and those are done by PLC so somebody else does them they're not talking to a staff member hey how do you like what we're doing here and they have a set of questions kind of standardized questions they do this all over the state for a lot of different schools

and they have a standardized list of questions that they ask and so I'm seeing that we didn't do any family um surveys are we required to we do the family surveys at the we survey okay and actually I was so you just didn't actually put any you didn't actually just put you did not put results in the report but they were done correct okay because this is these are uh aspirational goals for the end of this school year I just saw the blinks for family I didn't know if I did them um do we have access to through the actual list of questions and results I'm assuming you're just um based on the numbers like you know l31 and T25 there's actually a list of questions yes that's actually coming to the board where we

and our administrative meeting that there are some things we have not done during covet that we're required to do as a district to bring forward to the board and that is actually one of those things that should come forward is our we survey results we should be here to talk about attendance and we need to come and talk to you about three through eight and Regents test scores just like there are things we have to post there are things that should be coming to the board on a yearly basis and we just haven't done it over the last couple of years as well I don't know Joe depends on how you interpret yeah sure yeah they're just wondering because we we one of the conversations by coming in the EA Community is just what information

is out there yes well that definitely has a lot of that yeah yeah definitely um so when you bring It Forward when we get a list of like all the questions and the changes yeah so is there also and I'm sorry I'm taking so long on this topic um also is that is it all just like yes no ABC or is there a free text at all there is not free text in the movie survey okay what about the like interviews PLC so the interviews are are so they give us more insight yes perfect okay um those are all the questions I have um and that actually applies to both so does anybody else have any questions on the petroba competence of Education like if not can I can I get a vote on that

all in favor of approving uh did I understand okay I'm sorry I thought someone I cut someone off so um all in favor aye any post perfect so then I need a resolution for or excuse me a motion for resolution number 41 2022 and this is to approve the the Middle School um comprehensive education plan okay Justin and Joe in whatever order um any additional questions for the middle school one okay so all in favor of approving the Middle School confidence comprehensive education plan bye any opposed thank you um so we are right down to reports uh we'll start with with Diane would you like me to share Taurus questions or are you going to do that or um why don't you share her question on the votes okay um because I don't know the

answer to that so uh just that's okay I do want to just mention that I have been in contact with Ann Mazer for the police control for next year and we're back and forth a little bit but um as you know it was difficult for her to find people because she does she's not local so she want an opportunity to just reach out to the people to see whether or not she actually can offer us a contract for next year but she's interested in continuing to work with us and we are interested to work with her so that's that's on the move and Tori sent a couple of questions that she couldn't be here tonight and she said she had been reviewing the nisbah 2022 proposed resolutions book as the October 17th annual business meeting

is rapidly approaching I'm wondering who the voting delegate is from the slcs board I have a few notes and questions concerns some of the proposed resolutions would impact our district significantly and I would hate to think that we might not get our boys heard foreign I'd love to be able to answer that question but I have no idea how that really works I should be because I guess that's happened um any District can submit a resolution and there are there's a committee like this well I did when it came to the healthcare that's what I wanted to find out about um there is a committee that reviews them and even if it comes out of the committee with a favorable it still has to be voted on by the delegates delegates are pretty much anybody

that tense that this book conference from you know a school that's a member so we could send somebody if you wanted but if we're not sending somebody I have a company that votes sounds like Dorian wants to go yeah is there I mean is that an in person or can people join electronically we have to look because they may have done something electronically yeah because of that yeah no she does not detail her concerns so I think we'll have to wait for her um on those but but they're um as I recall there if if they get voted upon you know they they can get voted upon with a you know positive support of um away from the committee that means before the meeting and then if they then get voted on again by the

whole delegation then it just becomes a position of nisbah it's not like it's automatically gonna accept us it's just a musical well then you know when they take their position in the state on certain issues they will either Lobby forward or not so it's not like everything's gonna automatically happen to us yeah it's not we have to abide by these things it's just no it's just it's just kind of giving Nismo authorizing them to take that particular position yeah so it would be good to see what she's concerned about because I know there's some some of those proposals were put in there every single year and then they just died um so it would be nice to know what her specific concerns are and we could probably discuss that and I guess that's not a

lawmaking by the lobby well maybe more but if she wants to tell me that it'd be wonderful to um you know North Country schools representative I don't know but I think it would be fascinating to go encouragement it'll be good I mean if she's if she's able that would be great otherwise um I mean there may be uh Electronic Component and we can we can let her know that yeah Gina and I will look into this yeah they were very helpful I just I did position statements 2022 yes there's a lot of position statements yeah but you know it doesn't mean and yeah once get brought up every year by certain districts they don't necessarily but occasionally what happens is we we are position on this well that's where they come from they have to

vote on it and say this is our official opinion yeah um the other question I'll just be covering during my update so that that's it oh all right so Committee of these liaison and student Representatives um we'll start with Zach I think we report unfortunately I was not able to make the First Community Schools meeting so I apologize there if I look forward to more I know I need to reach out to the lesson that would talk about professional problems yep and Justin spoke with Suzanne kind of a known news good news situation thank everyone suppose so she said the Dei committee the next committee meeting is tomorrow nighting and it will be on Google meet um but uh several of us have met twice three times three times in the last since our last

meeting to discuss kind of put a lot of thinking yeah how how the committee will you know move forward into its third year in existence and I think the three meetings look really valuable because I think we came out with some good direction forward for how the committee can be um you know can function really smoothly and be really a benefit to the district so we're going to discuss the model order and discuss tomorrow is and the next board meeting I could bring back economy I think it's really positive it's kind of a way of really institutionalizing these diversity Equity including efforts in the distance I think we're looking to do that and make it so that it works for every you know nobody gets too burned out trying to make these things happen it

really comes from everybody sometimes it helps to meet in those smaller groups too to better direct efforts and then to invite people in and once you have that established I think that would be great yeah so a report we will report are those meetings recorded at all they haven't been and I don't know if we'll continue to make virtually even but we have decided at the end of last year to make this first meeting and we will be expanding the membership we've had several people and the third person drop off today so so there's um and reorganizational meaning really and make sure we have community members representative uh any other updates nope that's it so this week is homecoming week I met with Mr Dan and I was in a episode of Magnum PI with

his Hawaiian shirt on and yeah so he must have been Monday he does a great job of getting the students excited about that I wanted to just mention I did earlier a lot of people don't know us but the student council actually picks the homecoming week and they set up the calendar and they go through the events so it's a well-run student that and the staff is usually very very supportive of that I know my time is at black directory often you calls why did you get this week so some people think it's the football team or the ad or coach student council does they do a good job if you've never ever seen some of that out and it's probably a little late this year but you should you should come see some of

the events that you oh that probably would probably be I might have already done anyway they did the DodgeBall Monday yeah tug of war was today you know I didn't ask my daughter again so it's yeah the seniors oh I think this year it really is uh uh bringing back a sense of normalcy so it's good to see they've had their sheltered Place locked down fire drills last week uh Mr dancing went smoothly I think tonight's the ninth and 10th grade open uh open house I think there's some but he's down in the cafeteria so we're coming in when I was coming from a meeting so and he said field trips will start next week so again that theme of returning and obviously is good in athletics uh had a chance to meet with Forest

he wanted to know that last week both our boys and girls varsity soccer teams not just a win which I snapped and extended losing streak for both clubs and the coaches and the student athletes were very excited about that so that was awesome in a couple years right girls soccer numbers are up which is great down part of that as you've noticed tonight we do not have enough uniforms to help fit the team because the numbers are greater than normal and so of course there's not a little budget juggling and they should be here in a week or two which would be awesome so they're on order those are great that now it can be done so quickly when you order well let's see what may actually well yeah that's true so it seems simpler

to kind of fix that problem or when it comes along the ordering and the receiving sometimes don't match what they Representatives that's true that is true and he wanted to know if their homecoming ends this week to wait to be a high school student some people I I kind of people say well it's so early and one of the things they do to be honest with you is they're trying to pick a week that allows most of our teams to have a home game and sometimes the criticism you get is well this team is not home actually you might not ever be able to pick a week where everybody's got a home game so it's it's not as easy as it sounds but they usually do a pretty good job so that's it for me

uh Amy's here is in the middle school as well so um just for me the conversation um and it's nice that they see things going on in the business office I do need to meet with Cindy at some point um I have been attending the sporting events it's great to see the students that are involved and it was nice this year on Lake Placid they put like pass it on on Monday last year there's a little tension at the game if you want to say that but this year it was very it was a great crowd and there was back and forth from both the the Red Storm and the bomber side and it was very energetic and I think stayed positive which was good to see because I was a little worried from last

year but um it was a great game and and fun to see everybody kind of again get back to kind of the normalcy um and uh and then on the retreat side I have not been getting good responses from our uh some of our local facilities I'll just leave it at that I did reach out to um the Kerry they they have opened a new section I don't know if any of you guys are familiar with them um and they have room to hold something there um I did ask them for uh they said they had lots of availability for end of September or October um and I mentioned that we would be looking for like a four hour block um is that do you guys think that is do you want to do a

four-hour block on a on a week night or would you rather do a weekend and do longer Tori would like to stay away from Weekends um I would as well and so I think uh a night would be good uh and I think I think we could I think if we started with four hours if there is something that lasts longer than that we could uh do a second to something but I think four hours is a good that's a good time um and so let me open her email because she so I just asked her where's she spending over the Carrie it's by Key Bank okay um they've just had a conference in their room that was like I think she said 25 to 30 people and they kept playing um and so they

just um they just opened that up there's also I mean it sounds like that will work but there's two new Mountain there's Mount Pisgah you know there are other spaces if you're not looking for a restaurant uh they don't they're not necessarily a restaurant they're just a space yeah um yeah they said they would love to have us their schedule has opened up because this is the time of year that they slow down and um and and they actually spoke to me so um so that was great um and uh so if we want to do a weekend or a week night what are the babies do yeah your guess is good at this point so technically they're due October 21st but that's that I would be shocked if you make don't play in this

baseball when they might arrive with them the 21st of October oh yeah you got 30 days most at most yeah that was scary that was halfway to Burlington in my head we're going to Burlington because twins apparently are always considered the Harvest pregnancy oh yeah so yeah she was having contractions they were like well there's less than six in it or more than six in an hour I'm actually Four like probably five she was fine um so what what night would work best for people a week that doesn't have a board meeting I was wondering if we wanted to do um a Wednesday night that's not a board meeting I mean would that work for people so like we have a board meeting on the 5th and the 19th correct October correct so what uh

with the 12th work for people all right looks great okay and then um how early can people start oh wait what I can do it it's not ideal for other days what about the 26th yeah sorry can you hear that oh yeah the time as well we beat down on the 26th so far would that be okay for you Nancy yeah so what time can people start four five if we started at like five or five o'clock would that be good at work for everybody Mark's the busiest Mark are you out of work by five believe it or not I might be employed temporarily until October through January wow yeah University games but I think I'll be okay when do those start oh they're in January but you guys are probably already out there five

o'clock okay so October 26th at five o'clock and I will double check with them on that availability and we will put together some agendas to work and agenda just as well if you could just when you get when you confirm the date and that'd be good yeah I'll call it back tomorrow and um she was going to check the scheduling and I can call her back tomorrow when discuss that um I just lost my train of thought but outside of that I think we aren't good so we'll move to the administrators that are here so who wants to go first okay um so we've been very busy at the middle school we rolled out the custom view project over the last two weeks we focused on learning why other people matter and curiosity as a

character trait as part of our Middle School tradition we recognize today as the United Nations International day of peace with student proclamations of what they will do that supports peace anti-racism bulletin board and a science swing and music exploration and minerals on Japan highways our entire eighth grade will be participating in a fast bonding field trip to experience outdoors in Lake Placid on Friday September 23rd this will give our students and staff an important and fun opportunity to spend time with each other and use their teamwork skills to solve problems under the direction of the facilitator there and funded through our grant because of our identification correct uh be the nice kid uh Mr Brian sked neck is coming he will be visiting our school for two days October 4th and 5th he'll be using

his humorous and engaging storytelling techniques to help students be their best selves focusing on the following character traits kindness compassion generosity courage and positivity yes um so we will do an all-school assembly with him and he will be visiting students we have started planning for our fall Family Fun Festival on Wednesday October 26th um our team is playing Fun Games music photo apps for students a light dinner from our cafeteria um menu um we have students and families can also meet their their child's teachers learn more about curriculum students clubs and our teachers are already planning our group costumes for Halloween even though it's that's what they're very excited so Let's Do It um and all these activities as Diane said um for students staff and families to support Arts equipments that are written in

our company okay so what um positivity projects what made you guys decide to go with that this year I'm just curious oh it's research-based oh yeah number one yeah yes um another reason is that they've been using a picture of it for many years so it's an easy and easy uh our students are very aware of it they've had practice in it and they've had training in almost all of our students who come from state birds and for urgency and uh Bloomingdale do not but they act right nicely to it I worked with it in Lake Placid as well so I have a clear experience with Aaron and in talking with Ryan he said anecdotally they they're discipline referrals dropped significantly once they get started I mean I asked them I'm just super I know

this I'm so glad to hear you say you're doing that oh great it's I don't have a lot of Consulting with that company and use of the work research basic gaming is in my opinion it is hands down by far the best social emotional program out there so I don't which is so tricky having that common vocabulary around character and being strengths based that's just I'm like made by night you guys are doing that so good that's great I would love to see a picture of the um anti-racial pollution I put it on our newsletter that is going up tomorrow perfect um any other questions I'm going to go next because I'm going to be a parent in one minute at Petrova oh okay um so I also wanted to mention that the identification helps

us with Grant other grants because we list that as a need so when you list that we're targeted and two schools within our district it also helps with other funding so while it's bad it's actually really good too um we had our first Friday family swim night since covid and we had 80 Swimmers at the North Country pool and if you've ever been there you could hear the squealing and joy through the metal doors coming into the lobby it was fantastic and our first family field trip is on October 1st I just do Colbert's Roots if you've never been there you should go it is fantastic they have the most amazing outdoor play space and families will enjoy picking apples pumpkins and cider and donuts at the farm on Saturday and we have uh over

half filled for our capacity for the bus okay yeah are we just taking one bus one bus Albany but this is not all because yeah thank you all very much fun so we're in um you're two of working and on our K-12 um curriculum alignment and this year that's our overall goal for greater student achievement uh this year we're putting in Greater emphasis on um our unit design in our instructional practices so um target-based unit and lesson design that is created primarily through Dynamic collaboration with our colleagues and um and what there's one more thing um let me check my notes oh and um moving into trying to embed in the actual PD all those other pieces that we're trying to combine how to use Dei in the classroom how to use um social socio-emotional

learning in the classroom so that they are part of the instruction and part of the culture in the classroom not stand-alone activities I shared some of that with the Dei committee so they could see you know just a little look inside my brain and what that looks like our ultimate goal is that this kind of planning starts to happen unlock autonomously outside of these sessions and to build that kind of culture for that too so Harmony just out of curiosity from a Dei perspective do you look for if you look at the topics that are being taught in the classroom at all and what might be missing that's maybe not typically taught in a historical context in the past um yes and we're doing that um we're finding our entry points that will be sustainable

so what we're doing is we're we're although we are have we have ins um this work that we're doing together you know with each department um we also recognize that people hold kind of tight to the things that they do and so we're going into instead of starting from scratch we're going into the units that we have we also have on Kate Palumbo who's working on our um it curriculum audit basically using the Dei checklist that that the Dei committee um approved last year and she is um she's doing so much and I share one example she's going through a unit that's done and then you're not done yet and she's she has either the evidence of some diverse and inclusive um curriculum and activities or she identifies that there's not any evidence or not

enough to tell here and then some considerations and her considerations are just that but they're really thoughtful so for example the one in kindergarten the one that I can think of off the top of my head is um they have examples of houses but why aren't there certain other kinds of houses why isn't there a trailer and she has those kinds of things in there um she also spent the last two days looking at the knowledge section of ckele um she looked at the fourth grade unit it's very eurocentric and so then she went into their social studies um unit and saw they do a lot of things with apricot and different uh religions and um she has some considerations of how to use that content with the ELA standards um so that you're still

you don't lose your scope and sequence of the standards and the learning that's happening in the Eli but changing out some of the content and so it's it's really thoughtful it's really intentional and we're all just going to kind of be learning as we go I'll give you a really practical example watching my daughter go through the fourth grade curriculum um and bringing it home I was doing some work last year with the footage showing about Hawk and bringing home the stuff that she was getting in class that talked entirely in the past tense about these people and when I slid that across to a mohawk Elder and showed her that she was like we've been erased right and so that like simple stuff like these people are still here and vibrant parts of our

communities right and it's a subtle like just past tense present tense thing right that's the kind of stuff that I think those kinds of audits are really good enough and I think we have a really talented person doing that uh for attention to detail because I mean I'm it's kind of blowing me away now this is somebody from the PLC and that's that's the just the kind of backtracking a little bit DLC was we hired to help with some of the curriculum to do but will they be with us going forward as well I know they were we had them last year we had a contract with them this year okay yeah so that's that is I didn't know that was something that was kind of extra that they did or this is the kind

of kind of viewing they're going to help us with these are women that work for this that um that have come from all different places you know of expertise and our Tailoring their expertise to what we're asking them to do so they aren't delivering a box you know a remedy for schools that have been targeted so they they have changed what they're doing based on us asking them to change what they're doing so every step of the way um as we adapt so did I that's great we should talk about this whether it's working well you're building on what already that's a really good way to help Institute change because people are it's hard if you make people uncomfortable where they are well yeah one of the things we talk about constantly in the DI

Community is meeting people where they're at right and I think everybody's committed to that and I personally have been very hesitant about bringing in external experts they come and tell us what we're doing wrong right because I'd rather have I'd rather have us doing the work internally this sounds like somebody though who's going to like work in collaboration it's pretty impressive with the stuff that you've shown so far so yeah we've built PLC into the um off ARP grant that was the big funding that we received from the federal flow through and through the state to us that four million dollars and so we we built the three years into that with the hopes that there would be some training for Melissa when she came out and she'd be here from the start but would

also learn um from people who do this every day is what they do um and then we'll see what happens in year four Our Hope was to have our curriculum at least in place it may not be pretty we might not be done with our our vertical alignment but Melissa would have had a chance to grow with support from people who do this so that she can then take this on so we'll see um it's very valuable to have outside eyes look at your work it's just like when you decorate your house and somebody comes in and says have you considered like you have your view and somebody else coming in and just taking another look has been very helpful you pay a lot of money it's 280 000 this year we have a lot

of people working with us and actually we have more happening this year than we thought we would because the Dei lens is Ms and we're actually moving along at a pretty good Cliff we'd like to actually move from Ela to math before the end of the year so it's good work it's really if it wasn't valuable we'd mix it and it's valuable work well and it's nice to hear that it's not a cookie cutter because a lot of these places come in with the cookie cutter program and say here this is what you need to do regardless of what you're doing now here's what you need to do you and so it's good that it's it is tailored to they don't stand a chance with Melissa and with me they just don't stand a chance

they're used to doing this in other places and they have a procedure which they like and neither Melissa Melissa will say well I've spoken with the superintendent and we really have spoken because that's nice that they like to do that in Buffalo but that's not the way we do things here good job they do they do roll with us that often is a conversation and we end up in a good place so we've changed we've changed people a few times to make sure that the people we have doing this work are people at it our school culture and I think we're a good place with that right now it's been good really good audience I want to say your name is from what you said um the several of us but you know the thought

that you know the professional development that is some of what's happening is is really kind of stressing the importance of belonging and everybody feeling not just belonging included in school and then so teaching all the staff how important that is and then making these little tweaks to the curriculum that we already have that that show how you how in not very difficult ways you can you know make people feel like or kids students feel like they belong like seeing what their own house looks like that that's not something to be ashamed or you know it doesn't include every hassle to have you know perfect little Patron proof and such most experience in Adirondacks do not yeah yeah so so that's why but but it just works together you know the professional developments were put on

the step and then the tweaks a lot of it I mean I know there's probably some major changes as well but a lot of it at least with the Dei lens are really just small little tweets to improve upon excited thank you um I don't think we need an executive or do we yes so we do need an executive session sorry so um [Music] I guess I will ask for a motion to go into executive sessions Joe can I get a second Nancy do we know what it's going to do sorry so um I promise that with no questions we could be out here by seven o'clock
