ready so um if i can get that do i need to do an agenda no no so we are just having a hearing in order to discuss the district safety plan so i'll turn it over to diane so we presented the safety plan at the previous meeting and we have had it on the district website and this is an opportunity if anyone would like to come before the board to have a discussion or comments on the district safety plan at this time any discussion or comments are we missing tonight who is where who's next to jeff torrey what was the 15 000 transfer to christian development in europe it's sort of an all-encompassing so it's for some of the stuff that we're doing right now it's foreign association for that training that the year-long training
and it included some of its zoom and some of it's in person so it included travel it also included just some extra money for some pity that we have coming up just gave her a love song you're interrupting yeah um who is this this is an outfit that works for uh leonard plus yeah they uh their experts on them uh the prices on the buses about 350. applications manager are we charged for the upgrade to our electric services through national grid national grid is there a charge to that what they've done so far now that's just how crazy right once they start coming right that's what i'm so coming off the building so the five to ten thousand is just designing the new electrical services [Music] there are also other items to add to the
total budget yes okay should we get cyrus to invest in a heavy-duty record yeah not gonna be a record it's gonna be a roll-off because you can't drag you can't you can't put them on a pumpkin yeah because the wheels are attached hi we are um broadcasting right now here in our hearing our hearing for the district safety plan just knows we're having conversations we'll close it in about three minutes um um cindy was there about to transfer first first name yes i cannot find it are you so for the administrators that just came we are in the middle of our public hearing so we are driving [Music] okay so we're going to go ahead and close the public hearing can i get a motion to adjourn mark second joe all in favor aye any
opposed perfect thank you guys we'll start our um regular board meeting in four minutes as zach just so you know we are broadcasting from the public hearing and we'll start the regular board meeting in just a couple minutes is oh playing or watching is uh is hmm so okay so we will go ahead and get started it is 5 30 so if we could all stand up to the united states of america through which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all if i could get the motion to accept the agenda or nancy and then just as discussion items if there's anything you would like to change on the agenda or move around i would like to pull uh c under teaching off the consent agenda um together yeah the
only the only reason is because i i don't know what a school nurse teacher is okay so um so that's you know so full bmc off and we'll just add that as a regular agenda item and then um is there anything else that because remember we don't discuss the items that are on the consent agenda um so is there anything else that anyone would like to pull off of there or any changes to the agenda outside of that you just get a quick update on those mitigation anything else yep you're at the top of the list oh thank you you figured it was there no offense justin he said he asked first so start time and in the middle of that is a lacrosse okay so if there's no other changes um then can i
get a vote to accept the agenda all in favor and you post perfect interface so now consent agenda if i can get a motion to approve the consensus nancy a second joe all in favor aye any opposed thank you so now that takes us down to public comments um is there anybody that wanted to address us for public comment okay perfect um we did get your documentation by the way so um we will go ahead and move right along the city then for the financial report uh discussing the best transfers i put the budget status report in the business drive and also the budgetary transfer report and also include it in my notes just to put in a short list and easy to reference um there's a couple that are over the ten thousand dollar
threshold for border pool and that is curriculum development diane has uh budget code risk money in there and she transferred some to the personal development for numerous reasons apparently melissa is doing training getting some different materials we have speakers coming for the first day of school just covering some of those stuff that was the fifteen thousand and then there was a ten thousand dollar transfer for um our heater trail work and also uh special education um we have quite a bit of tuition that we're having to pay out so we pulled some money out of our residential vote which is kind of it kind of goes between residential or traditional prisons does that anyone have any questions on them i don't have any questions on the larger trend first but just uh curiosity on the
smaller transfers for sports the the second level the second letter of the description is jb varsity and etc right yes and so this early in the game why are we pulling from so actually the first two are like sport yeah basketball and then it's girls or boys boys and they're modified baby varsity so why are we pulling from there so early on it it varies sometimes where the money is budgeted for athletics um we actually could be doing that we don't have to do budget luck um transfers at this level really we could be doing it at a 2855 level but we like to do it by line because we like to track the sports we probably didn't budget that way we really didn't there was no budget submitted for this later so the budget
was just a rollover from last year because we're having a little different avs so now they're actually ordering for those sports and we're just and sometimes they change what they order from part of the year maybe this sport to focus on this year and maybe more on another one i just noticed a lot of times that the um the modified and the jv have lesser quality equipment than the varsity so that's why i was curious should not it's all ordered at the same time okay equipment well new jerseys oh we just ordered some of them some of them are eight well i haven't been to a modified game for a while but some of them look a little more aged to them it's not unusual to and all we did was replicate last year's budget
you're going to have to transfer one because each year you cycle three weeks well i mean each like this year you may one sport or one level maybe getting more money because last year that level got low and if they don't need it this year then it's got to be moved so i'm surprised that bill didn't put in a budget that makes sense then that's true it wasn't more hit there's more me because i was so behind on the budget to begin with and i was friendly and i didn't get to meet with the administrators like the northern wood because in athletics the money a lot that varies widely here if you're buying a new set of uh uniforms for a team that team may have two or three thousand dollars more in this budget
particularly here that it wouldn't normally have and so if you had to do soccer beautiful last year you're only a year old now and it's the same budget you've got a sense of that soccer so if you're going to use that for someone else's contract it just seemed like such a small amount to be transferred this early in the budget but that makes sense they're doing a good job at doing the transfers up front not spending the money and then they're they're getting the transfers in when you need to before they spend their money plus since we have a new id everybody has doorstep motions do you have any money you'll say no okay let me check i can't do it we'll take it from this okay are there any other questions for cindy on
the transfer report if i can get a motion for um resolution number 029 2022 to approve the budgetary transfer report as presented tory and zach i'm not sure who's first suspense um all in favor aye any opposed that the warrants are in the new 2223 folder now um tax resolutions to confirm tax roll and authorized tax levy i've actually attached this towards the back of the my notes as well as for reference you have two different resolutions that we need to do the first one is confirming the tax rule and authorizing this levy so on page three i just want to bring to your attention on the first little paragraph here it mentions that the district is allowed to uh levy is some not to exceed 23 million 264 920 that is the actual tax
cap that that we could go to but then you'll notice down below under the totals i've got 23 million 263 500. it's about 1400 less and the reason that is if we have any omitted taxes in any county i have to factor that in because they're not on the tax rolls but we're going to collect taxes and if i don't reduce this move over our cap so i have to back that off before we actually levy so that's why the dollar amount is different the equalization rates i have never seen them all over the board like they are this year um it was quite a random especially franklin county essex and clinton were 100 but franklin was all over the board um brighton i live in town in brighton so i can tell you that
our rate is going up 17.68 percent because we have an equalization rate of 65.5 so it's hard to explain that to the public when they get their bill they said you weren't going to increase your our taxes more than 2.44 but there's a lot of factors involved that makes that rates what they are equalization rates being available can you explain how the how the equalization rate works so at the township if the state means that they're not at the assessment level they should be and they want the state wants to make that equal to other townships so they put they put on a factor and they essentially increase the total assessments and then you do so i lived in north elba and received my new evaluation on my home and thank goodness the state thinks
that north elba's evaluations of their home the rate for ourselves is actually going down eight point two five percent oh that's good mine will still go up don't really but myself that's a hundred percent so perhaps brighton hasn't done their reevaluation they've had it since the 90s at least since the 90s there's never been 65.5 right so we've been 80. in order that my house for 150 000 is taxed at the same rate that your house had 150 000 and two different and the thing is though i have a new home so my journey has the correct value right so i'm getting bumped up even though i don't have to win this problem right it's the other ones that yes and so these north north elba's st almond and black brook were all hundred percent
because they just got re-evaluated i think people want it's pretty good but they do okay yeah you usually see them at a hundred more fellows okay and then um okay so if i can get a motion for resolution number zero three zero it's informing the 2022-2023 tax rolls and authorizing the tax levy answers second zach thank you zach i saw that there and then any additional questions on that before we take a vote perfect all in favor aye any opposed thank you guys and then uh resolution number 31. so that one is uh resolution resolution concerning tax warrant so it starts off by saying how much we're going to apply the assigned fund to help reduce tax levy one million five hundred eighty thousand eight hundred and seventy two dollars and the rest of this
is just legal verbage basically um of constructing the tax collector and how they're supposed to do things and how the penalties work how you do issue receipts for tax payments when the you know when the collection period is if then it starts on september 1st and then it also mentions the total sum of that should be collected and the total sum is districts uh 23 million 260 which is what the number was on the other before our other resolution plus the library's 356 092. this one is a roll call yep so if i can get a motion for um resolution number 31 2022 authorizing the 2022 tax form right right-hand side justin so any questions regarding the tax warrant for sydney okay this is a roll file vote so we're just going to go one
by one so we'll just start with tory zach right justin mark yes yes finally a discussion regarding the effective staffing for the saranac lake central school district business office i gave you a little chart just to kind of give you a reference of what we currently have for staff and what we're possibly considering i oversee the business office as a school business executive then uh gina fairing's gonna skip one is she's administrative assistant she's also district employee and um i'll also talk about the blue boxes we have two employees where posts is in place currently well one of them is left they left on june 24th process has been filling in for payroll um and we have not filled that position yet we also have an accounts payable position that is he's employed she will
be done september 1st it's not very good timing because she's also the tax collector and taxes start september 1st so yeah so i just uh listed those there and then up above is another possible scenario that we're i'm hoping you might consider and that would be an accounting supervisor which would be a new position um that person would since i'm retiring in a couple years it would be nice to have someone that's learning some of the things that i do so it wouldn't be all you know somebody coming in whether it's this person can either be working towards filling my position when i leave or not and they can just know being familiar with some of the things that i do like the tax levy is quite a complicated you know calculating all the rates
and all that it's quite complicated because we have three counties and seven townships so there's i put i have very good notes but there's still a lot of different things to know we're also finding that payroll is just it's just with all the grants going on and the people leaving every couple months it's been crazy and i feel like all of our eggs are in one basket like i feel like we should be splitting out with the hr stuff having both people who cross trains that just other people would cross train anyways but be a little more intense training for payroll that they could run the role they had um also assumes like i said some of the human resources duties there's there's fmla there's workers comp um there's a variety of things insurances reconciling
insurances and that that's a possible scenario that i'd like to ask for to consider um the boces people at this point i would think that i would prefer to hire in district instead it's the field that i've tried and it's just not working for us and i'd rather hire in district and so just um we are going to have an executive session and one of the things that we'll be discussing is um negotiation of the contract so just so you guys know in regards to in regards to the staff in the business office as it currently is so that's pretty much all i have right now but just the scenario you know kind of like starting the process of discussing it we were going to advertise but until the board looks at this and i
get some input from the board and it's putting the current before the force and i just want to do things in the right order now just a quick question for for diane really and cindy regarding the layout of the business office the the office that is now empty can we leave that empty till we decide what this looks like so we're not having someone move multiple times so this person will most likely move into nancy's office that office is also free okay but we're going to leave the end temporarily there is a need every space will be filled yeah i just don't want i just don't want to put someone in there and say hey yes you're leaving yes sorry move again i just cleaned it yeah yeah and i did look it's very nice
ready for it's a new tenant okay yeah i just don't want to minimize people's movements yeah that's the thing i have a question so would this new position the accounting supervisor take on the roles of both they couldn't no no no so there's still so if we you know that we still need the accounts payable in the end of payroll if you want to research yes but yeah and then there would be a whole new position right and some of the payroll i mean just the grants will we have a staff and this is summer of claim forms that have to be manually typed into our accounting software it's it's crazy and just just to keep up with just to keep up with you yes and just shift some you know i basically wants to
do that so this is just part of the whole balancing out and and presumably some of the grants that we're getting can help cover some i would hope that at some point that would be budgeted into a grant it hasn't been never not even not in our business when our uh when our business office was fully staffed before we started having people retire and everything else how many people were in the office so ancient history at one that's that's a loss of personnel there everywhere as far as the tax collector is concerned uh because i'm assuming regardless of anything it would probably take a while to find somebody um can we hire someone temporarily just to do the stipend i mean does it i mean just to do the tax collection we have separate budgeted
money uh for somebody to come in and help um lisa simons who did it last year because in accounts payable has offered to help unfortunately her work would be more outside the day when people are coming in to pay for taxes so we need to figure that part out a little bit i also talked to some and sometimes the staff in the business office have to help you i'm trying to encourage pay online as much as possible that's really true and then um what about the traffic concerning uh fingerprinting are they gonna stay where they're at we're gonna work that out okay i think everything was in that little office it doesn't come into [Music] any other questions for cindy regarding what she's proposed or discussion items cindy i know we've talked about this before
but uh moving away so maybe we can discuss that during the executive session yeah there's some different reasons anything else well where does this go from here um it was just a it was just a proposal we probably have to um this is just really to get it in front of the board to start discussing it and then to iron out the details some of the details which we have to discuss outside of the public such but eventually it will be ironed out to be what our just what our business officers make so before we move along are there any questions for cindy i'm gonna have a couple of things oh sorry i know that's okay um transparency report is not done yet but i promise the state it will be done by the 15th
so it will be done they are withholding some of our state aid money so it's got to be done and it will be i have a lot of the i have all the data i think you told me last time i have all the data and spreadsheet and now i've got categorized all the budget problems in some district wide there's a whole variety things actually i will get it done and i will also we have done some work on uh spiel's spreadsheet that's not really ready to provide you tonight any other information so we will go ahead and move on to unfinished business um resolution number zero three two for the district safety plan can i get a motion mark second joe and then discussion so um do we have a copy of the actual
resolution or on the drive or the actual safety plan no is this the whole resolution the whole resolution okay yes perfect just making sure with it um and then any discussion on the district safety plan that we need to have if not um all in favor of approving the district safety plan for 2022-23 uh as indicated in resolution 032 2022 all in favor aye any opposed should be allowed to this year um new business dei data presentation hello so i didn't need to um not do the nurse teacher but we're going to discuss the nurse teacher position in i made it the icing which is very important yeah i just wanted to sit here so that's when we'll do that hey go ahead sorry thank you no worries at all good evening everyone thank you
so much for coming and for this opportunity to share with you what i would like to do is to provide an outline of the dei report repair prepared in its entirety and save some time for questions and general discussions our school's mission statement means we the saranac lake central school district will develop resourceful students who are productive members of society and with this is a backdrop dei or diversity equity and inclusion touches all of us and at this time to give us a bit of a human backdrop with regard to not only our school community but also the community at large nancy bernstein the other member of the dei data collection work group is going to share a bit with us about the history of the committee thank you so many remember the dei committee
diversity equity inclusion committee was formed after a petition was circulated uh and around the community in may of and this petition asked for creation of a diversity inclusion inclusion policy and was signed by over 600 individuals and from that effort the board of education at the time formed a committee first met in october of 2021 so that's the backdrop of what got us going and throughout that first year that 201-2022 school year it's a breakthrough it seems of 2020 2021 uh we worked on creating this policy which is policy zero one zero five equity inclusivity and diversity and education uh prior to this actually being approved by the board which was done in june of 204 correct the board near state board of regents issued an expectation that all school districts develop and implement policies
and practices that advance diversity equity and inclusion with fidelity and urgency so we were pretty urgent because the next month we had already you know prepared our policy and and we're able to pass it so that's just kind of where this policy came from um and you know this policy is available on the district website for everybody in the community to to read as you choose it's a i think it's a very impressive policy and it calls on many things uh there's the policy and then there's also the regulation and you know the section c of the regulation is a section called use data and metrics and it calls the dis it uh requires the district to ensure that information related to students is used at the data set and school improvement efforts limited uh
including but not limited to the following and it mentions a you know a list of different kind of data that the district is being asked to collect uh and then also a section in the is to monitor and review where the dei committee of the board of education working in conjunction with the superintendent of schools will monitor effectiveness and report at least once annually on the progress of the district's equity goals outlined in this plan and goes into further detail about what we're expecting you know asking ourselves to do so um so i always refer people back to this policy which is available but tonight um is our opportunity to review a summary of some of the data that's collected with respect to determining educational equity and this is not without challenges which you know
can't say hopefully well we'll mention what are some of the challenges to gather this data just to find it and then to more importantly disaggregated by race ethnicity socioeconomic status english language which learners special education and identified gifted these are some of the things that the policy is asking us to to look at so it's not easy to find all this information right it's not just out there for us to pick up um so thank you kathy for your efforts and um okay thank you nancy it is certainly complex but i learned a lot and i had fun exploring this so thank you again for that opportunity so with the view to promoting quality and education and quality in life for our young people the district values respect responsibility caring empathy and justice and in
turn this influences our larger community and region and so on and so forth so this is also multi-layered in addition to being multifaceted the way i see this too is this ties in directly with the presentation made by mrs fox back in june about safety and people's relationships with each other and the rapport established between educators and the children in youth in our schools so sources yes there were several i believe 10 formal quantitative sources were accessed including school tool which is a school platform for educators it's a useful tool but it's not without its limitations and for qualitative sources what i did was i conducted 16 interviews with students parents educators and when i say educators i include coaches advisors and administrators in that and what people shared with me it was it was
extremely moving and it truly was an honor to have them open up and provide a human face to data that is a number general categories of the larger report are demographics and the demographics section includes the district at large i broke it down by building as well and also with cindy's help i kind of got some information from wincap which is a staff platform and so there are school employee demographics including student engagement includes attendance high school sports discipline and high school and middle school and extracurricular activities in all schools student achievement includes some senior exit survey responses advanced placement courses honor roll at the high school and middle school and special education and fast bridge data with regard to student achievement scores community engagement i'm partial to community schools so i did get some
data so this includes i'll just give one example as of march we had 49 individuals representing 24 different agencies who were invited to our monthly community connection meetings that's just one example and at the same time i also want to acknowledge that our many beautiful concerts theater productions and sports activities are also forms of community engagement sources i mentioned that 10 formal sources are listed at the end of the report if anyone wants to take a deeper dive they are all there and there were also some informal sources not just lists shared within community schools but also advisors and administrators shared with me for example list themes of students participating in clubs because while clubs there's a capacity for that in school tool it's not actually utilized and there was no data that i found
in there so some general demographics as a school district here in saranac lake we certainly are a microcosm of our larger community and through the last several months the dei committee has had discussions and presentations about the many faces and facets of diversity some of which might be more apparent than others and one theme that surfaced time and time again is that there's a lot of hidden diversity if you will in our community and exactly how do we tap into that and access it um nearly 97 of our students enrolled are non-hispanic white caucasian 1.6 identify as black 1.2 as being of multiple races and fewer than 1 identify as being asian or hispanic of any race and and this comes from school tool and i'll revisit a limitation that is in there with that
in a few minutes a major finding for me was that of poverty and socioeconomic disparity that exists in our communities and poverty is as we know for lack of better phrasing it does not discriminate it touches all groups and i found it interesting that there were mirrored results between what i found and what john bernardi ceo of united way shared with our i believe he presented in march i think it was um so approximately 40 to 45 of our third through eighth graders are economically disadvantaged and how is that determined i i don't know all the inner workings of it but i can tell you it's linked to the best forms that are submitted by public school districts and feds um is an acronym for basic educational data system i had to write it down
because these acronyms are another language unto themselves um also a finding is that from sirs which is student information and reporting services of the new york state ed department in the 2020 to 2021 school year students who were economically disadvantaged generally rated 20 percent less proficiency on math and reading exams it varied a little bit between 20 and 21 but i i think that's pretty significant to me the implications of this are disturbing i also came across some data pertaining to franklin county residents and population health in general and this was shared at a dei meeting our franklin county residents of us are in the lowest quintile or in the lowest fifth for life expectancy in new york state while only 11 of us are in the top fifth so that's sobering to say the
least and all of this connects back to poverty and socioeconomic status and how does this tie in with our district and what it is that we are doing here studies show that a level of education positively correlates with income earned which also generally positively correlates with life expectancy and overall quality of life people interviewed expressed concern without me needing them of course but i want to in a moment turn the screen and i'll pause so that you can read and just reflect momentarily and then i'll read the quotes aloud but from the interviews conducted i generally selected two quotes from each person and then peppered those throughout the report in places that i thought would be meaningful so for people who may be joining us virtually and perhaps cannot see the screen i'll read aloud
parent a i worry about kids who play a sport and who don't have parents to go home to they join a team to belong coach a it's that social economic piece that has me worried how do we not let that divide get greater i saw it before colvin it's probably magnified now administrator b as a leader i try to see if there are things they need help with they don't want to draw attention to themselves i try to be overly kind and understanding about the stresses in their lives nancy had mentioned some limitations and challenges which to me were unto themselves a significant finding um at the same time i think if one is inclined toward a bit of self reflection and the spirit of growth this brings great to the fore our own inherent
biases socioeconomic strata that's a sensitive topic that's really hard for people to talk about so it's hard to track hard to get a handle on spirituality and religion i know we have a lot of diversity in this community but how does one find out about it without being intrusive or perhaps offensive to people and many many of us have no problem being open and transparent we love to talk about ourselves oftentimes but not about everything language and culture school tool does have the capacity to track i believe it's up to two languages for each person but that's dependent on who shares the information so if the family does not readily provide that at the time of registration or when there's a major change to inform the district we don't know about it gender there were
no non-binary students logged in to school tool although in the vanguard the district has recently added non-binary as an option to gender but it's so new that i didn't find any students in there however i know that there are at least 30 students who regularly attend the saranac lake youth center who identify as being lgbtq ease of access and application school tool again it's it can be a wonderful tool but data entry is different than data access and it's not always user friendly um clubs are not tracked i mentioned that i did in the larger report take a deeper dive into some of the extracurricular activities but what i had to do was take the roster and look up every single student and devise my own chart so that's time consuming it's very interesting but
i i do feel that school tool could be utilized more thoroughly finally here privacy again when i conducted the interviews i felt giving a backdrop in a human context sitting down face to face communicating as human beings was just a way to treat people with dignity and to offer them a voice and a means to share their stories and i do want to acknowledge the many whether they knew me or not um who were so willing to share and that i think through this whole process was the most meaningful to me and i just want to acknowledge them there are many kind and caring and involved people not only in this just district excuse me but also in saranac lake and i want to acknowledge their contributions and supported me in this process of compiling
the report i have a quote and i'll pause for a moment and let you read this and then i'll read it aloud from carl jung one looks back with appreciation on the brilliant teachers but with gratitude to those who touch our human feelings the curriculum is so much necessary raw material but warmth is a vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child the report in its entirety is about 50 pages i saved a few trees and wanted to let you know that nancy and diane have access to it and if you would like a full copy of it there are charts and graphs and some other findings but i shared with you in this presentation what to me is the most significant so i thank you and if there are
any questions i will do my best to answer those i think in regards to workload this is the first time that you guys are presenting kind of your findings and if there's limitations in the data or something is hard to get at we maybe need to look to revise what we expect and take that off the table i mean really if it's not something that we can act on or that's actionable um i don't know that you necessarily need to be doing the life work on it or even in that regard if it's something that we're not going to react to so for example um if we are paying attention to um to to race or to uh different faiths do we actually need to know how many people are christians how many people are
jewish how many people are you know of other faiths or do we just need to know we need to respect all religions and move forward at that point you know so if it is because these are you're getting into areas that anything regarding diversity equity or inclusion is a sensitive topic and some people are going to be open and some people are not and that's also a reason why data sources that we have are not always um accurate because it depends on what a person wants to volunteer and share with us so if it's something that's hard to get at but we're not it's not going to impact how we operate then i would say maybe we need to adjust things and just take it out um you know that we could acknowledge there is
diversity in this area and and go with that um the other thing i would say is just going sorry it's autism well i was just going to say it's not just about acknowledging diversity it's making sure there's equity in education so that there aren't groups that are left behind because because of whatever their difference may be or or whatever they're grouping you know so that that we don't see that that the kids that are that are um you know being disciplined are tend to be more from a certain grouping than the rest of the student population or same as gifted children that aren't from a certain population so that's but there are some things that we don't need to know to include so for example example religion you don't need to know if i am
a christian or not to in order to include me in the initiatives that you do so so in that regard you wouldn't have to know that information just move forward and make improvements so i'm saying if it's something where we don't necessarily need to spend the time on the numbers um we just know that there's diversity that we need to pay attention to isn't the religion though participation about improving that but not necessarily spending the time to dive into the numbers sure because whether you have one student or 10 students you want to be inclusive correct so it's just in that regard we can make things more efficient so i think having worked on writing this policy and i'm just reviewing the policy language right now in the policy book one of the issues i
think that we need to work on is making sure that we have the data that we need and it's not clear to me that we have figured out what that data is yet in order to ask any questions of it so i think for now thank you for trying to assemble as much as you can because one of the things we've struggled with is what is the data that exists and then what is the information that we need to also have access to right because we don't actually know are muslim kids being left out of what our you know our religious holiday celebrations were really skewed in some directions or another we don't actually know that right so like we can sit here and talk about some of these things until we have data that
shows trend lines or inequities we don't i think we're way far ahead of where we actually can say things about this because we just don't have the information but i think we're far away from that so um so i don't know if you guys recall but one of the problems i had with the policy and what was being presented is the amount of data you guys were diving into sure because i am i'm very familiar with data and and how inaccurate it can be based on what you're asking sure and so that was one of my concerns with this and in measurement that we don't want to spend so much time on trying to measure it and try to identify it that we're not actually making improvements toward what needs to be done so our
concerts are an amazing example of this um our teachers do a great job at mixing in things from all faiths all you know different cultures and just really a celebration of diversity and and you don't need to know how many of each kid there is in order to do that you know that is just something that you should be doing um and celebrating cultures regardless of if there's a student in the district who you know represents that culture um there are some things you don't need to count i think i think what we're thinking about though are structural energies right like placements of kids and classes things like that socioeconomic segregation within the school and there's those things that you can then spend more time on to get at and i think our policy may
need to be because i remember i i haven't read it recently but i remember there was a lot we were asking for in the reporting section and essentially what i'm getting at is we may be able to swim that down so we get it the things that we now know we want to we need to pay attention i would look at that a different way i would say actually i'm not sure that we have the capacity to actually enact this policy and so so is this policy aspirational and and do we want to actually dedicate resources towards that or do we want to scale it back because that that strikes me so i think that's an opinion difference because when we were discussing this before every people wanted to kind of throw in the kitchen
scene but to me this policy should be what we can attain what we can do now so so what the policy should be what we can stick to right now and if we need to take out some of those quantitative measures uh in order to be able to stick to this policy then we need to do that and so we can find a source to to measure it accurately and so but i think some people put it as this is what we want to attain or aspire to but i think that we could do better too and that's part of what what kentucky was finding out maybe we need to ask those questions for instance it wasn't an option in school because you were male or female there was no non-binary option but we can
change that and have changed it that's my understanding at least so now there is that option right so there's things we can do differently to help collect some of that data and use the resources we have like school tool and wincap and all these other data sources to be able to get at the information that we need to know that will help us determine whether we're providing educational equity okay so so there's a difference in what we put out there and what we make available and how someone will actually answer that question and i think when you when you were talking about race when you were talking about financing when you're talking about gender you're going to hit some of those sensitive topics that people are like i'm going to put this down because i
know it's less controversial or i'm not going to answer that question because i don't want somebody to know or it's none of your business so those are those are elements that are automatically just there's inherent active inaccuracies in the data oh and so yes we can put the field out there so they could answer it more appropriately you know that that option is there but will they do it not necessarily you know and so that's those are items that um you know in as far as the policy is concerned i don't want a policy out there that we can't actually do because i think right now we're not actually abiding by our own policy because there are things in the policy we just can't do so we can still scale back the policy and then
add things in that we're able to do later on but i think the policy that we're sticking to that we should abide by should list the things that we're able to do isn't that something that's all are you getting you need to review well it would also involve the actual dei committee you know that that's not just that's just not no that's what i want to see yeah this would be a good discussion to have um to refine the policy you know you're not going to get rid of it but to refine it now that it's been in place two two years is that crafting really one year the because it was in development at first so whether it's been one year or two years because it is something that's so new and that there
weren't a lot of templates to go by if the state came in later not later but um if that's something that we have a larger discussion of and go through point by point through the entire thing to see are there other parts of it that aren't achievable so i think the i think the the proper workflow if you will for that would be that the dei committee now knowing what you know after it be in operation for so long would take a look at the policy with that eye of what can we achieve what can we do what needs to be scaled back maybe what needs to be increased and then they would once identifying that and having that discussion because they know what they were able to get to and what they weren't able
to get to then they would talk to the policy committee and say this is what we're thinking then once you guys have worked things out you would submit the completed or suggested recommended policy to the board and that's when the board would read it first reading second grading and prove it but those discussions those working discussions need to happen at those levels before it happens here i would agree i agree on the idea that like almost a factor of design like a curriculum but all the same way you start out with what do we want my students to learn and then how am i going to get my students there so this policy what do we want to measure if we work back from there to get at this so i would agree there but
i would be nervous about scaling back the level of detail and i think these policies need tons of details tons of irritation first you know like you understand accounting for variants and things like that like so if we have a model and we say here's this outcome i'm just going to put these two variables to predict what it might look like it might look like some religious issue was driving this outcome but we get more nuance than we have the socioeconomic stuff you're talking about in there we can account for more so like i was very happy to see the focus here on ses because it's very easy for people to say oh this isn't adversarial true racial it's not but we are very social universe and as you mentioned that's very important very well
not that race isn't plenty in the policy on race but the attention to ses is also just as important so i think that we i agree it's very aspirational i would agree with jonas that we're having a place where i don't know that we can actually do the policy as it stands so i would agree there so many districts i feel like create this policy because they were told to where this district didn't do that you guys were ahead of the game but because of that so many districts create a policy it goes on a final drawer and they've got it in case somebody said where's your policy here it is but what are they doing so we want a policy to actually do something with but i do think for this to have t
and for it to actually inform what we do with our students what we do for our students we need such detailed data um and so it is more responsive to questions so we can look and see other certain groups that they're mentioning that are being assaulted i can see your point about well like you're always going to have people in a survey that don't tell you the right answer there's always every every survey has a hearing we know that um but it's kind of the best we can do if somebody wants to not be truthful with us but not answer it we can't control that um but we can still ask the question and then based on that data just okay well maybe are there soon certain students from this special education category that are
disproportionately being expelled or something like that's you want to know that so it's not just is your student are you receiving specialist services are you receiving specialist services and under what label are you receiving the services so i think every category needs that level of detailed nuance it's pain it's more work for you guys doing that i get it but i think for this policy to actually give us actionable steps that we do need that level of detail because these things are so nuanced and i think one of the problems that we have though is i 100 agree with you thank you for that comment we lack the descriptive ability to know what those issues are so we can conjecture and say like this is happening right but until we actually have the evidence to
show that there are things happening so you have to actually first do that descriptive work before you can then figure out the or like what do you want to do so you mean like we don't know so right now i wanted to say that it's an unknown unknown right so like well how i'm going to go to the school and say hey what what i want i want the demographic breakdown of our students who have been suspended in the last five years that data doesn't exist so that i think that's one of the issues right it's like getting our heads around the existing data sure and then from there the policy says then you determine what your goals are based on what's going on what then are you going to do and then you collect
more data to see if you've actually done it right so it becomes more assessment and i think we still need to do the descriptive i would i would think that i mean this policy there are so many of our policies that do not get updated but this policy is so new and really should be a living document because the people who are being excluded or not included or the diversity that we're paying attention to changes right it changes day to day and as things become more acceptable you know the program may change and so i would just say now that we've lived it for a full year not just part of the year now that it's been lived for a whole year look at our policy with that eye and say what do we need
to now adjust our policy to do um and then just because it's not in the policy doesn't mean we can't do it but the things that are in the policy are the things that we should definitely do those are things that we need to be able to accomplish and if we can't accomplish them in regards to measurement and reporting and data then we should look to take things out the other caution i would say is we are not chicago we are not new york city and so some of these numbers are very small and just pointing them out may help people identify who that person is and so we really need to proceed with an era of privacy as well in that regard but even if we can get the data that doesn't mean we
should report on the data because their safety is a concern as well you know um and so that's something we have to be careful with in a small bill because you can't hide there are you just can't get from this country well if i may i think there's a level of land here in the sense that for example using the gender and adding non-binary right so in my opinion talking about diversity equity inclusion putting non-binary is an option isn't necessarily and solely so that we can start collecting information when people answer i think it's just as much the motive that we are trying to be inclusive so just putting it on there in general i think is a statement being made that we're open and inclusive whether or not we get good data from it
that's another question well and that's so that one shouldn't prevent the other but i agree that we should be mindful of what we're getting and is it reliable and yeah should we make decisions and that's why i say we don't it doesn't it doesn't say we can't do something it shouldn't prevent us from putting for example yeah it's just we're not we're not measuring that at that time because now we know that it was not in place so uh most likely 2021 2022 data is not going to have that information and really since it's just getting in place 2022 to 23 data might not have that information so we wouldn't even want to look at measuring it or using it in anything until at least 2023 to 2024. so from that regard does it need
to be in our measurement section in the policy not that we can't do yeah it's just you know we still need to make those improvements it's just are we going to require ourselves to measure on it yet and that's i think we just need a little policy with that i think we need to look at the policy but we also need to look at the procedures that are in place i think that's a that's more the regulation and that might be the goal that comes out of it that hey we tried to measure this we can't get the data maybe the goal is how do we how do we do this how do we measure it how do we collect it should we collect you know all those questions that go along with it um
maybe that's the goal that comes out of this but i think that's an exercise that you guys should do is just look at look at how you're measuring things and is it meaningful it's actionable and can we get that data at this point in time and if i go ahead and sure well i was just going to say i mean there's a lot of discussion here about what we can't do but what we can do is is make that report a full report and this was just kind of an overview of what the report is and really look at it and see what data was collected because you're kind of focusing a lot what we're not able to collect and oh we're able to collect quite a bit that's only because if we can collect
it then there's and it wasn't uh tedious and hard you know to the point that it precluded us from doing something else and leave it in there you know that's that's that's the way that we can measure right but the report um i hope we can get it up on the website or or make it available you know i don't know i would like to see a copy of it well everybody the whole public should see a company i would say let's review it first just okay i'm just always really concerned about people's surprises just to make sure there's nothing in there that we can say oh let's need to take that one piece out you know just to if the numbers are low that's one thing you look at i had a question about
um we were talking about how sometimes it's hard to find information um is there any way for us to live in an exhaustive way trying to identify what are some good resources to gather information so for example when we were talking about this i remember the one thing that's that's out there is the uh nys edd report cards for districts right let you know if you're good standing they're not good standing and things like that so like that there's some that that's got a ton of information but i don't know if it's reliable for you know one of the things that i just kind of picked up was chronic absenteeism we don't have an issue in that related ethnicity but it seems like we have a pretty major issue with people who are either able
to have chronic absenteeism based on that so are we using you know have we exhaustively like tried to identify i don't know if nasa has things or not but that might be helpful too is like not only what does this do we have but what's out there like what's the state tracking and things like that might help give you more more information as far as that's concerned and in that regard it might be well for i mean all of us should re read the report but pay attention to those resources at the bottom and if there's another resource that you know about because you know then let them know about it as well the other question i had was just more more content like um justin newton mentioned one thing that came out sounded uh
i think you would say was disturbing was the the um the reality of the disparity in socioeconomic status so are we just the question to the to the dei committee like is that now that we've identified that is that going to be something that we talk about in terms of identifying some reading material like we did related to race and and start that conversation because i feel like in terms of dei we gotta make sure that we're being diverse and it's you've been talking about the race which is great um but there's more to it right so i'm just curious to know that do we have a timeline or a plan to start talking about the other so i think on that one though in that it is it is in this diversity equity and
inclusion currently but that's something that the district has paid attention to for a long time so there's for that one there's actually things that we are doing to um community schools great ones you know uh school supplies getting everybody school supplies you know that that kind of takes that that socioeconomic out because now we're just giving it to you regardless we don't we don't care where you fit in that strata and so that one has that one has been worked on prior to this dei committee and it's just now part of it so i think that one you can actually just continue working on and identify ways to to close that gap you know and that's the kind of thing that so your questions act right is now that we have data on this right
and there's things going on are those things actually working that the next the next thing you do is identify your goals and objectives based on that descriptive analysis right and then we have to have reports on like is community schools actually working like we can sit here and say like i love i love community schools right i don't want to protect community schools is it doing things to solve social class inequality right and what what can we do within the purview of the school to mitigate those issues and then how do we know that we're actually mitigating those issues right understanding that there's only so much work to be able to do within the school without growing economic inequality well and i guess it but that's also part of my point is we can give
as many backpacks as many people as we want but that doesn't necessarily mean that the school is treating people of different socio-economic statuses with equity exactly credit outcomes is i personally don't feel like we have the capacity wish need list of what are the most important things now that you've done this report that get lacking what's the number one thing if you could have more information on what's the number two thing if you could have information on now that you've had so many interviews what else what do you need you know does that make sense that's actionable the only thing i would add on to that is it's actually well obviously i mean you're not gonna ideally we wouldn't have this issue but if we go okay you need more data i think one of
the things and talking to a lot of parents is that okay if you're going to collect data why are you collecting and be specific about it you know the reason we're collecting this data the reason we're asking these questions is because we want to make sure these things aren't happening and on a with the average parent um making them feel comfortable sharing accurate information not just i don't want to answer that question because i don't want to get into it but you know i want to answer this question truthfully because maybe it's going to get my child some help or maybe it's gonna you know show my child is in this category when it gets a category that is getting if you see all these kids are not getting leave me or not getting help
they need does that make sense which is why i think as a you never rely on anyone quantitative and qualitative i'd like i'm a qualitative researcher in my own research so i appreciate that and we've done that with good experiences and um so that's the only well that's one of the only tasks that i would send back to the it was just now that we've reported on it see if you can adapt that policy to be more appropriate um and then the other thing that i would mention on the dbi committee is that for doing things through the lens of the ea is not to [Music] not to how do you say this [Music] don't over correct things in a way that you're actually excluding people if that makes sense uh sometimes when we're talking
about inclusion um and diversity we try to do something we don't do something because it's gonna hurt someone else's family you know someone else is a king or something like that not not in the regards of anything that is racist or things like that but just in general uh okay so let's go back to religion um you should be able to say merry christmas just as you can say happy holidays just as you can say whatever your reading for the season happens to be or if you even celebrate the season so we shouldn't leave it all out because we don't want to exclude people or or only bring in this because we're trying to include just that so it really should be about celebrating diversity and making sure that we actually do celebrate all the
facets of culture and everything else and so um because i've seen that go wrong too where we we almost we pull too much out that we're actually taking away things that people identify with um so no i don't i i don't want more data i just want us to be respectful and know that if if the letter says merry christmas or something that's perfectly fine you can say mary put christmas and happy farms and you know everything else it we don't need to desensitize it to the extent that people lose their identity i think a survey is a simple thing that you just don't require that every every every question that sort of doesn't require a response you can do that in the survey you can say response required you can say it's not so
something you don't want to answer a question you have to usually get that data you'll miss that one database you might get addressed from that person my last thing i just said well there's a guy appreciate my help this is incredibly difficult to work um is just i say this in my job as well where i work on these things is that remembering that that global goal does not mean equal we're never going to reach a point in the world where everyone's equal um that's not going to happen doesn't mean we can't strive towards it but i think emphasizing the positive progress that we're making and so if there's disparities let's point them out and show how we're working to shrink those disparities and not hold ourselves to a standard that statistically and the reality
is never going to exist the normal curve exists for a reason there's people that are below above for different reasons and try and the pursuit of equal outcomes for everyone often is the road to health um that will not go well so i think that we just these policies and we've done a good job of it can easily digraph a negative negative negative i think that this report was not that it was great there's some positive stuff in there i think maintaining that focus on we've got work to do but we're making progress that we're putting attention to and i think that will keep people in the community um on board as well you know you must go away for last year we discussed this there's a lot of strong feelings about this stuff so
emphasizing the positives while also acknowledging the areas for improvement i think is crucial for all of anything we put out any data we put out both areas for improvement here's where we're making conflicts well and celebrate the successes i mean just the fact that the dei committee in our community is active and you know not just a policy to be stuck in a chore like someone said that we're actually doing something about it you know celebrate those successes along the way because that's what's going to keep the steam in it right that's what's going to keep us going and making those improvements working towards it so i think in that regards the first years are always going to be covered there's always gonna be more work because you're kind of setting up an entire structure
but and and you guys have done a great job with that um and everybody involved the students the have done a teachers the administrators of that and so we just need to kind of refine that process and you know celebrate those successes and change the things without the things that we now know we need to um thank you for that and then any other questions for kathy or comments or or for the answer for joe no i mean this it takes courage it takes dedication it takes commitment and uh i would be very surprised at any given point when we talk about the in our board meetings someone on the dei committees i'd be very surprised if they're not thinking well if you're so opinionated why don't you join the dei committee so on your
behalf thank you for doing what you're doing and you know i understand that i am enjoying it i have enjoyed it in a while but i do honor and appreciate everything you're doing recognize that this is really hard to take on the chin because it's good solid work but it's really sensitive work so thank you all for doing what you're doing and they they know why i can't yet be in the city but maybe one more year and i'll see if i can't do it on that end of the two so thank you yeah great job so the next thing is the district mascot discussion on maps um i thought we would have people going for that discussion but how do you want his happiness just open up oh i i open it up that
i still think we should be the black fly so if i'm leaving it and don't ever put me next to uh mark again please because actually i do mark thinks that's a terrible idea like we're gonna fly slaughters at the game okay never mind but uh i did it was covered in the newspaper they did a nice article about it and uh we do a lot of purchases through i think it's bsn and the rep that we work with is an alumni so he did read that in the newspaper and they actually have a subdivision on bsn that works with schools to develop mascots and um of work so i do have a meeting scheduled um i think next week with them just to have a conversation he hooked me into someone who works in
that department for them we're just going to have an initial conversation about how schools sort of undertake this type of work and what that could look like but can you fill me in on what bsn is it's a company where we we buy all of our uh chintzy looking uniforms well yes thank you so chris dupree is our alumni and actually he does a really nice job for us um he's done well by us for years he's very accommodating um and called me right up and said hey i think we can help you out so um he's not out of the woodwork he's somebody we work with a lot and i'm very happy with so i'll have the meeting i'm not sure it's before our next meeting it might be sometime in that week but
i'm sorry we've been technology free for two days of our retreat and i am so lost i'm so far behind i i don't have a handle on that um but as soon as we meet i'll bring the board up to speed and then maybe the board would like to do a little subcommittee to this this is just one avenue we can pursue but i think they'll give us at least a starting spot you know they're willing to help us with sort of how districts undertake this work even if we don't use them it might give us a little road map that's where my work is and i would just say i mean i um i would just say definitely opportunity to involve the public in the community because i mean it's it's what we all
identify with right where schools are and what kids are that we support and even if we don't have kids in the area we support local sports teams so i did they do have a website and they did take a look at it on their website and it is a process they just committed design and tell us what we're going to get they they oversee the process of developing this guy they'll do a full identity package for for districts have we had any um comments or anything from the newspaper nothing except for that for that one well that's a good phone call but um so when we first changed the reg storm when you're ordering uniforms or decals or stickers typically the companies that you deal with will have a whole catalog of monitors and other
and because it was never really defined officially if you will various teams you would see some ad hurricane looking thing there was all kinds of things at first and uh i suspect that when chris comes in he'll be able to give us options within the category or you know we're going to be straight again i think it was telling that of all those things that originally appeared none of them really cut out the long term yeah it's not the easiest of things to quantify why we've gotten 15 18 20 years out of doing this with you know look at all it's been different logos and labels oh i know okay but none that really hit the mark and that's after coaches teachers and kids team captains catalogs after catalogs of options so if chris is
able to find something that's a little unique and different it'd be great because catalog watches that are out there currently really hasn't caught on a lot of the track yeah any other comments or discussion guys were there any comments back to board members regarding that conversation sometimes no loser's goodness people seem generally the conversations i had around it yeah we're not changing the name from red storm we're just looking for an image a visual to go with it did we fall in the category of like another all right so uh mark rickmeyer is my we aren't making decisions yet a lot more info once there are some decisions to be made so i think the next steps on that would be just to have um have diane have her meeting kind of get a plan
in place and then we can discuss it and see where we're going that sounds um continuation of remote meaning options so there's some information that came down we've been being able to hold meetings remotely before meetings because of the executive order that that executive order to the governor has ended but there has been some legislation put in place that if we wish to continue to have the option of remoteling we would need a board resolution detailing district procedures that has to go through a public hearing process i believe i put in the drive um feh boces did do this and if i don't have any drive i will pop it in there is this one is it theirs yes this is theirs so we could cheat and take that we we could use our resources
wisely and review theirs and ours could look very similar to that if the board was interested in um yes and it's not a all remote options certain individuals couldn't attend or and they don't have to be the way it was written correct it gives the procedures to allow for that to happen does this apply to subcommittees as well because i know the dei committee meets remotely just because of the nature of the committee we have so many different kinds of people from different parts of the community because we're not an action body as the dei committee we don't we don't have action i believe that this is this does not we can meet with that committee however we want even though even though they're still because the public is invited to attend that meeting but
there's no action that that committee can take oh and i think that's the difference between a board meeting and a committee meeting so is there interest in the board do you want to think about that personally i'd like to see it continue because i think we're i think issues like combat arise um and then the more we can keep everyone attending as many meetings you know if we can be i would personally rather be able to be remote if i know i can't be there if i could still be remote at least i'm still hearing everything that's going on i'll i would say though i mean just from our experience the mixed meetings do not work it's just such a headache when the the public tries to also speak to us and they are remote
and so um i think yes uh policy we should have one especially you know not just coveted times but you know we always have weather issues or things like that where people can't get here necessarily and so that would be um that would be good but the interactiveness of it needs to be at the right level you know it worked pretty well when diana was up on the screen which was a little bit later than when we first started doing it so i don't know what something was different no but i'm talking about like when we have 15 people on there and all of them are trying to talk at the same time well um i think when we had issues was with when some were in person and some weren't and with muting and
not muting and that's what that's right but it wasn't an issue when diane was attending yeah on the screen and so some so it can be done yeah i'm just saying the internet that then when you have a mix of in person and not in person and how we uh let people interact when they are online that's that's what i think starts getting messy and starts to be more frustrating than you know especially like we can't hear for a one-person system for them you know someone in the public to comment and then translating for the rest of us or um so just think that that's the thing that i would stay away from are we saying that all of our meetings will be um partially remote you know all of us were here we would
take um from the public or would you say this option is available if need be so i think that's where we that's what the policy would dictate so they have in here that um i thought they had something that said the members of the public that attend or something um because it's one thing for a board member to be out of town i mean it's another thing if everything you're going to do that you've got to provide the irrational you know the entire body those are two different complications for guys you are not interacting so where the public can view and or participate in such a meeting where required documents and records will be posted are available um that sort of thing i just want to make sure that's some of the language in here
i just want to make sure to stay away from that we're going to do mixed media it is so i totally agree that if someone's away like diana's in california they could join us or um you know or one of us is stuck in the snowstorm and we can join by home as long as there's a quorum here we can still have the meeting but it's that if you go to that meeting does that then require us to open up other portions that's just how it's written in that policy you can just say if we have a board meeting it's in person if an individual or a couple can't make it they're on board they can remote it but if the board is meeting a person at all the only access for the public is
to come in if we all meet virtually because for some reason we're going fully virtual you can say all right so that needs to be in the policy i think that's perfect in this situation public can talk to us in person in this situation will involve them and our with our public the members of the public that are going to speak don't they have to sign in well that's part of it tutorials we can we 10 foot parameters as a board public input opportunity for public input is at board discretion so you could say that we will open up for public comment in person and if you have public comment and you are online please send those electronically to the board clerk there are ways we could handle that where they could still have an
input but not have to mute unmute mu friend could be the person who receives them we could share them but in a more controlled fashion so we could actually hear them yes remember we also now have we are you know live yeah and so that wasn't part of the policy right that that mph focuses did not discuss that so we already have that option where the public can attend virtually yes so they can do that they can they give a view right they're not necessarily that they so i'm just saying we can within the rules of new york state we can rewrite the policy to fit our needs yeah i'll i'll take this conversation and have a crack at uh using the resources that were provided by the neighbor and there is guidance from your
state i have that too and i'll bring that back to the next meeting for us to review when's your next uh policy in the 18th is that before our next scene yes yes so you guys could discuss it then if necessary we're going to have a sleepover [Laughter] diane does bake uh so any other input on that before we move along to our reports um and then the last thing is our nurses teacher i didn't i didn't write it out online um so the only question i had on that is what is a student nurse teacher so our some of our nurses are school nurse teachers which means that they have actually received education on delivering educational content so it's actually a certification like being a elementary case six or being a special ed 912
or being a home career teacher so a school nurse teacher has had instruction on instruction and can deliver instructions to the classroom to students and offer a class if we wanted to offer cpr first aid for half a semester our school nurse teacher could in fact do that she would come back to us from the state that it was actually in her certification area to offer enough courses so when we hired kelly she was not a school nurse teacher she is an rn but she is in so it gets a little complicated she's an rn but she is in the teacher's union but she's in the employee retirement system which is where the csva employees have their retirement system because she wasn't certified so she didn't share with me right away i knew she was
going back to school others to become school nurse teachers which is great it's it's hard to find a school nurse teacher it's hard for them to actually find places to take the courses for certification and i'm really pleased that our nurses are doing that because it does offer some great options when we can make that on a non-focal time we might have some more normalcy does offer open some opportunities for them to do work with kids in groups um so i knew kelly was going but she never shared with me or she might have because if you check the date it was right and kobe was rolling out that she had actually gotten her certification as a school nurse teacher so i've talked with her about whether or not she wanted to be reappointed because
as you can see here she does have to resign and come on because she's hired as an rn she has to come back and be hired as a school nurse teacher and she has to go through the ten year process but i can back date that all the way to the date of her initial certification and all this really goes for kelly because she's already in the slta contract it doesn't change her pay it doesn't change her benefits it changes her retirement system so i sent her back to take a look at which retirement system benefits that she felt was better for her and she would like to go through the process and she knows the very credit and she would also get her credits but she she wasn't correct so she would get her
credits thank you so as an rn yes you get paid as if you have a teacher certification correct but she didn't share any credits with us until now it seemed to me that yeah
