I I student rep report the senior high building level team will be meeting virtually on Wednesday October 25th at 5:30 p.m. they will discuss attendance Regions exam School culture and graduation rates um this this past Saturday we had the Mumble our homecoming the football team won with the football team won this Saturday with a score of 35 to 26 making their winner winning record 5 to one the title of mom Queen went to Michelle lebaka and Report Addie cell and Hannah magella um US news reports World US news world reports has released rankings for high schools across the United States so is now in Top 40 for the first time the rankings based off graduation grades enrollment student body demographics State assessments and AP testing scores that's all I have thank you thank you just
wanted to recognize uh Miss Meredith Mills who's an 11th grader at the senior high school she be with us all year lucky her Dr KY hello so we're getting off the year at um Mount Mary Learning Center right now we have five preschool classrooms we have one opening um we're also waiting for Anderson has started to move the furniture in for their two classrooms um hopefully the state comes through with that approval soon over on the other side at Mount Mar we have um TTP classroom which is a therapeutic placement classroom for middle school and then the autism special classes Middle School level and everything seems to be going well over there too um we have a staggered morning and that was our biggest concern because they had buses coming in and we had 80
cars coming through so we moved up to 8:00 and that seems we seem to be all clear by the time their buses are coming through so so far so good with that I'm going to go on to a PPS report so this these are a lot of things that we handle with the people Personnel Services which is also student services so it's it's kind of all over the place um it's throughout the district oh uh the first thing we talked about was special ed is under PPS and I'm just going to go over like some special classes that we been doing the special ed section um in a future date so at rcpc classrooms that's Rockland County Psychiatric Center um partners with us and we have three classrooms two are at kill uh the younger
ones are 812 that's eight students one teacher two uh Power professionals and then we have an upper level classroom that one right now has six students in it um but it can go up to 12 and then we have one at the Junior High that has nine students in right now and that's a 1212 we do not have it at the high school and sadly um Rockland County can't get approval from the state to increase the amount and I'm not sure why that is but um so there is a little disconnect if the kids don't get to a point where they can be mainstream in 8th grade sometimes we have to find other placements for them um we have had students that started to main stream like in fifth and sixth grade and then we're
ready by nth grade but it is a concern that we're still looking at because there is that gap of students that just still are not making it out of the self-contained classroom um they also have a clinic I don't have this on here but rcpc um runs a clinic out of the kill and that would that's mainly for students who don't need the level of support to be in the classroom but they haven't been able to find maybe a therapist in the area so right now they are servicing only City students um but if someone was to come in they do have some openings for outside but we try to they try to keep it at this point but they do have some openings right now um NYU is the psychiatrist comes through there and
that is done virtually the kids seem to really like it I don't know how I would be but um the kids seem to like the virtual um therapy um they do work with the parents so sometimes they have the um the parents come in and they all sit on this couch and it's done on a large screen TV and it seems to be very effective right now um then we have our sensoring needs classrooms they're also at kill um we used to refer them to our autism students with autism but what what we're finding now is a lot of students that are in this classroom do not have an diagnosis but they do have sensory needs they are smaller classes 812s for all three of them um and right now they are they're full so
if we have somebody mve in we either have to right now it's good because we could ask for a variance you cannot start the air with a variance um but the state doesn't always honor it so you have to have a plan for the year to not need the varant so right now that one we also have the Bose behavioral specialist that we talked about previously that's Shay o Larry she's coming in to work with the teachers and the students in the in these classrooms on some um behavioral strategies she's also going to some of the other schools she went uh to ricardi last week to do an observation and she's also going to go to Morse so so at Morse we have our Learning Community classroom so those are also um Miss o is
going to go in there also to just see you know what their needs are but um the students in this CL in these class usually have some cognitive um difficulties that they they maybe have to be in a special class for some of the um instruction but by the time they get to the intermediate Learning Community a lot of them are um mainstreaming out and so when they get into high school they usually can either go into the C- teach classrooms or we do have some 121 ons would be 12 students one student and one um one ta and that those are self-contained classs but they're they're subjects specific so it would be Ela and math social studies and Science and then these are related services so occup ational therapists we do not have any
that are in District those are contracted through Procare um we had to increase point5 from last year so we right now have 3.5 people coming in and our CPC Clinic they have their own social worker and their own they work in that in those classrooms uh two social workers sorry um and then our school psychologists we have one in each School social worker the same one in each School physical therapist we have The Miracle Worker Matt R he does all of our elementary we do contract um through bosies but by the time kids get up to the Junior Senior High they they don't really most of them don't have a lot of physical therapist needs but we still have a couple but Matt is doing all of the um Elementary and his schedule is crazy
at how he does and then speech therapists we also have one um at each building and and then we have one person who also has to do it for Woodstock Day School and Middle Way school we also partner with L Sal um I'm going to give you a little handout afterwards so the olster County Department of Mental Health noticed that we just had the county had a lot of issues with um adolescents mainly Junior High um finding any kind of therapists so they partnered with Lal school and then they had districts come on board so right now Lal comes in we partner with um aora they will serve 10 of our students at one time it's usually a five to six week um like servicing um they work with the parents too so it's a
lot a lot of it is also sharing like what is out there in oler County um what kind of organizations can come into your home and help you um but right now we have quite a few students in it and they're always taking referrals so that's kind of on a rural basis um occupational therapy you could just see it it has been increasing it's not increasing crazy but um we're seeing it younger and younger kids really a lot a lot of it I since Co we have seen that they just have a lot of sensory needs so they're going in some classrooms but a lot of it is pull out um you can see by school even when we um when Mount Maran when it broke up um there's still some large numbers in some
of the schools physical therapy and that's Matt Al um you can see the numbers start getting lower as you get higher into um the GR but you know those have pretty much stayed the same we haven't really seen any increase with that Counseling Services have been increasing um it's early of the year and 23 24 already has quite a big number we will expect that to jump um because people can't find outside so when they can't find any outside services and if they can't get in the little St part um we will start picking up you know any of the it's not the same as getting like a psychiatric service but at least you have where the children can go talk to somebody so you know we we do the same thing with um our
social workers and our school psychologists both see students speech and language that's another one that we've seen an increase since Co and younger so our preschool which isn't on here um we have such large number numbers that the county can't even keep up with we have a lot of students who have not been able to have any speech services for all of last year and they couldn't get it over the summer because the county doesn't have enough speech and language therapists so there's there's definitely a need in oler county for a lot of these Services um if you know any children that are looking to what they want to go in After High School I would say any of these things they could probably get a job right away they definitely together to the county
another area that we focus on is homeschooling um homeschooling really hasn't increased if you looked from last year and this year we kind of had a big jump when the vacination part happened where they had the rights um Co we had it for a while and then a lot of the kids came back but the vaccination one really has stuck in our area there is a large number of people who you know truly believe that they don't want it and the state is not budging on that so even this year you know we've had to have some kids that were excluded a lot of them did come back but if you know it is an option for Pats and we do have um a very good group of homeschooling parents that really get together and
um they help each other so home tutoring is another one um so that's if somebody is could be that they got injured they're sick or they're suspended um we haven't we don't really have anybody with Elementary but we've already had quite a few at Junior Senior High TTP is the therapeutic um program here it's it's now in three um it's at Port y it's at Mount Maran and it's at Anna Divine and you can see that we already have an elementary school child in that and three at the senior high hospitalizations those are right now just from September we usually didn't have anybody in September so that I'm a little worried about so that would be like four winds or even Westchester psychiatric or Benny partial so we are seeing an increase in mental health
needs in the County Guidance these are our guidance counselors um they are also assigned to uh elementary schools so this year we had three of them Jamie hman Melissa Janovich and Seth tomman they worked over the summer on Sixth Grade curriculum mapping um they also were able to create some lesson plans that they're going to share with the others so that we're pretty consistent on what's being offered in each Elementary School um what they focused on was intro to counseling a career section social emotional learning what it means to have academic success and then transition from like to different levels whether it be to Junior High to high school and then to college our district our health services um those are our district nurses we also um employ a nurse at middleway school and then
we have this is kind of new for us that you know the last couple years we've actually had to contract for 101 nurses for some ially fragile students so we have one at ricardi and then we have one at at Morse which right now is currently a substitute because we're struggling to find a oneon-one nurse and if you were here last year you know that we had this before so we have a we think we have one that's going to start in two weeks but um right now that we're seeing more and more um students that do need it and it you know it's anything from um feeding tubes we have we have probably five students in District that actually need feeding therapy um which we did not see previously and then in case you
didn't know we are in New York state opioid overdose prevention program um this was this took effect like April 1st of 2006 where the state realized that you know we had a problem and so one of the solutions was to come up with a way for non-medical persons to learn how to um use thein or Naran and so one of the ways to do that we found out was to become a program so The Clinical Director is Dr Malia I'm the program director and so we're able to do trainings and at first when we did it we only had six staff um do it last year we had 13 hoping this year we'll have even more so that those staff can also like come to the trainings just to you know brush up on it
but they the New York State Department of Health supplies and our can it doesn't cost us anything for this program so I hope we continue to do it but um we've had quite a few especially at the high school the teachers and staff are really interested in making sure they know the you know first the symptoms of what it would be and and to be able to have it on hand in case enl um English language Learners and multilingual Learners these are the numbers that we have per grade mainly in kill um Junior High and high school I can tell you that this in the last month well guess two weeks we actually have had three students arrive that are considered site students which is students with interrupted formal education um two up at the
secondary level only have been in school till second grade and third grade so it does it that is a challenge because they still are in seventh and eighth grade but they have a second grade reading level and they don't read English they don't speak English any English so um it's something that we're going to be looking probably at our neighboring districts to see what they're doing because we have never this is the first year we've ever that any um site students identifi and then m mckin vento is our um students with displaced housing um you can see already we're at 71 it is only October so 47 doubled up which means you know there's more than there's somebody living more than one family living in a house um from last year we've had um an
increase with displac housing from last year especially in September um we do give gift cards from family Woodstock we have the backpack program run by the Key Club um but you'll notice a little some things have changed we actually have six families that are in campgrounds and talking to other PPS directors in the county they also have students living in our um Campground so the big biggest issue with a lot of this even with the hotels is transportation because it can change literally weekly for these people um they have to see it seems like DSS will tell them you're out of this hotel this week and you're going to be in a different one now we have to set up transportation for that and then following week they could be back at the other Hotel
so this is this is like an ongoing thing for transportation department I I don't know how they're keeping up with it but they're doing PR well we've been able to get the kids into school within a day or two which is really you know on their part is a big feat um but you know I mean the housing in in this area it's just been become really hard for people to actually get affordable housing so that's just a snippet of what I do let me [Music] push to and just It's Curious questions that's all um you had said that we can't start a school year with a variance so do we start not in compliance and then apply for a variance how how how does that work so we've been lucky and I say lucky
because we thought we were in trouble by one student on the first day of school but that's student didn't start like we knew they were coming from another district and we thought they were going to be here on the first day of school and the state was like well you can't have a variance you know so we were in the Panic about that because what we would have had to do would be to bring the child into a regular classroom even though we knew they should have been in that classroom okay and then we would have had to move them afterwards and we knew we'd get a variance but thank goodness they didn't show up um but that you know that's so to follow up on that how long do it usually take to get
the variant is it like we fill out the paperwork we send it to our rep and they tell us that same day oh okay so it's pretty fast as long I mean as long as you fill the paperwork out right and the big key is what's your fix for next year that's the part they go right to okay and then the second question was um first of all thank you for for your presentation and I want to thank everybody who has become certified in administering the Nar can have we needed it no thank goodness so you know people will report the state says you kind of have to look at that because some people might not feel comfort about comfortable about reporting it um and they don't care right okay they say better that they
did it and they saved somebody and they're not and they don't want to say we have never had anybody report that they' used it and pretty much everybody has come with um you know their fired and wanted a new one but you know we don't go out and ask cuz at this point I don't even care right right as long as it's being okay thank you you're welcome set up just is a better description of what they're [Music] doing [Music] good thank you thank you thank you Dr kapler uh public recognition any member of the public wishing to speak for board please approach the [Music] podium hello board friend this you as promis um I've come with my um semi-regular uh mosy report the last time I was here was June and uh I had
mentioned that we were looking at a policy on comprehensive student attendance and that that policy had failed and that um we had to reintroduce it in July and we did and um I just wanted to let you know that no worries BOS has a comprehensive student uh attendance policy it is in effect it happened at the July meeting as we anticipated but again I'm a policy Mon it's always fun to see R's order actually work highlight that um at our September Bose's meeting we had 23 individuals recognized for tenure is definitely a wonderful time um we also looked at our Academic School summer school the academic summer school and I have to say I was really impressed with the growth um in the past I've been with B now just 9 years the same time
I was here um that during that time of course with Co and other things I I definitely was concerned about the academic summer school for a period of time you know we weren't seeing the kind of result through hope before but this past Su School the results and it's all public information it's all on the website if you want to look at the results um they were really good they came out we do good this year so very hopeful that we see that progress continue I think one of the things that they highlighted for our academic for the bosis academic summer school is that um many school districts have opened their own academic summer school so it gave bosies the ability to really specialize and focus which may have had um an impact on their
results um next week on the 16th I'll be representing oler County BOS at the annual meeting for uh the New York State School boards Association um well again policy so these s fun things you haven't seen the resolutions there's some interesting ones and so at the last meeting I I confirmed with the BOS board which ones I'm going to vote Yes for and which ones I'm going to go yeah I don't think so only because some of the wording is interesting and so for those of you who want to join me on the policy end of things def to give me a call and I'll let you know some of the things that in the upcoming resolutions for n brother it kind of most majority of the resolutions were been to favor and move forward
there's a couple that we're going to vote now on also we'll be at the uh conference for Nisa and Buffalo um October 26th to the 28th we have a nice contingent going from bosis representing all of oler County um we'll follow up and let you know about the that event this Thursday I am so hoping that somebody s is going to be with us this Thursday it is the o school boards association meeting um it is the first of the year and um this first meeting is always reserved for district sharing so it's really allowing all the districts really talk about what's what they're going into this school year what was really great last year it's a fun time to hear and to network with other school board members as well as to hear from
some of the other school district superintendents what's happening in the future so that's this Thursday at 6 down in news um I am the policy committee chair this year Fu I like being on the committee chairing it with a whole another but I am the chair for the policy committee for bosies um and so this past week we had the meeting and um things such as breast milk and book Banning and if you hadn't seen it in the news bosies had a state C controller audit that looked at our it and networking and there were some things that we didn't do as effective as the state controller would like to see us do one thing just to highlight is having um user account and how um having inactive user accounts I was one of those
guilty parties because I was using my sovere um email accounts and not my olster Bose's email account so my olster Bose's email was dormant so we kind of got knocked by the state controller because me yeah so we're going to be looking um in the next um the next month we're going to in October we're meeting with all of our it people and we're going to be looking at specifically B's policies related to it and networking and really do a a deep dive just to make sure that based on this audit we policy-wise are doing good and that hopefully that will transfer into procedures um one of the fun things talking about policy is the fact that um you know we get to say that we believe in Healthy Green Grass then it's up to
the school district administrator to figure out how to make Healy green grass so obiously so just to wrap up um our district superintendent Dr Shanker um had made a comment and I asked and he gave me permission to share exactly as as he re shared it and a recent conversation he had with the commissioner of education for New York state after sharing our North Star model which is the Bose's U model for programming she said New York needs a North star model and his reply was we are have one it's right here at oler County bosies in oler County New York so September 2023 was the beginning of the next chapter for oler bosies and he reports we are ready to go thanks to our staff our students and of course our component districts thank
you all and I'll keep watching you guys are doing amazing lot of me but you're do thank you thank you anyone [Music] else all right so while we're waiting for the slides I first want to just call your attention to on the agenda tonight there is UHA with the FAA for a colletive bargaining agreement so I do want to especially thank the FAA attend tonight uh for working with us to to come to an agreement on this uh we do obviously appreciate our teachers nurses social workers psychologists trainers school counselors all their dedication hard work over the years for our students um so with that just want to give the board some updates as what's going on in our district do a couple quick things here uh academically we've implemented foundations in third grade uh
strategic uh in uh integration of that up up to third grade K five scien have been have been built over the summer and are LED in New York state state learning standards the Seal of civics and the Seal of bi literacy is well and flourishing Sly will tell you there's too many kids keep tracking um the process of of reviewing and revising curriculum and pacing guides we're just kind of seeing that fully implemented this year for conference day time is spent with those pacing guides um as well as curriculum and then the capital project is underway our partner that the high school is done where Auditorium is is moving along we' got some Renovations in the senior high gymnasium going on uh so we're super excited about that uh the end of next week uh
at Morris the brick should be on the exterior of the addition there um once again this year we're going to focus on academic achievement culture climate community and Safety and Security three goals that we've had in the past uh this year as you've heard Dr je speak about uh we're going to focus on engagement equity and empowerment right not only for our students but for also for our staff uh throughout the year this is going to lead us into a strategic planning retreat in in the spring where we're going to really set the the course uh for the next 5 years or so for our f um some celebrations the nisma All State reforming Ensemble November 30th through December 3rd we've got three individuals uh who have been selected Caitlyn Brenan mix corus Alto one
Elizabeth Lee mix chor soprano 2 and then Sarah mangio mixor soprano 1 and then we also have a slew of students who have made area All State uh so mixed choir we've got Sarah Manon again Kate Nowitzki Alexa Schultz schy sorry uh James MCT Samantha Tano and trouble choir Caitlyn Brenan Grace Hoff Emily Figaroa Elizabeth Lee and as an alterate City SAS on the sports front uh believe it or not the season is winding down already just started so golf the boys team uh they are the mohal division winners based on their standings overall girls tennis team made it two more holes uh football is 5- one I believe right now and they have made the playoffs uh scir soccer is 73 and two they made the playoffs boy soccer is 44 And1 they will
be making the playoffs result so congratulations to those athletes um now speaking about uh some additions to our programming that we've had to the past couple years so this is just a recap of how we're using the AR Esser funds for this school year so ARP and Esser goes until September 30th of 2024 believe we received roughly $3.5 million for this one so we've used this money for after school academic support after school social emotional support um our summer academy and our summer Enrichment Academy as well we have four instructional coaches which we use these funds to uh to pay for uh social worker uh secondary the credit recovery program we've also added MTS support at the elementary level by maintaining our uh two floating mtss teachers as well as adding mtss support at the
Junior Senior High School we have an elementary teaching assistance in our in our primary grades to support small grp construction and then with the AP at kill Elementary School Bo approved um for this so all these things will be examined over the year to see what can be maintained what's been effective and what we should uh rethinked out other happenings uh family community workshops I had a family community workshop last Wednesday or last Thursday at ricardi um we're supposed to have one tonight didn't have an attends um but this is for me to get kind of hear firsthand what our constituents are saying about Sol so we it's it's I purposely called a workshop because I want to hear from them as to what they love about s what they're proud of about what they
what they foresee in a SRE graduate right what what should that graduate sound like here like what experiences should they have and then things that are concerning to them and things that that maybe on the horizon we need to think about um so once I finish all my workshops I will provide a summary to the board the big thing that I'm hearing from uh from ricardi parents as well as um right then the American Legion was uh at Hands On Learning opportunities prly with trades and and the recognization that not every student is is going to go to college which is perfectly fine but how are we getting getting the workforce ready uh in reference to community organization so I sent invitations out for myself to various organizations to kind of have that same conversation
with them um I've already met with the American Legion who by the way has an amazing Museum on their second floor if you haven't been definitely something definitely something to see something that we'll be working with to see how we can get some more kids through there uh got kuas coming up the Lions Club and then the the library board meeting as well so anybody out there is listening you want me to have to participate just reach out um and then lastly tonight I did want to share uh State assessments compared to 2022 for the grades 338 these just became publicly available October 4th this is just a very high level overview the top row is uh the ELA for 2022 uh in that year we had 39% per proficiency which is a level little
before this past year we had 36% proficiency now I do want to caution you that uh this the 2023 year was the first year that New York State assessed the updated New York State uh Next Generation learning standards so the state does kind of throw that little precautionary statement out there that this was a new test based on those standards um so we there will be some deep diving as to see what's going on compare last year's test and previous test and see where we need to prove math grad 3 through proficiency went from 34 to 48% which is very exciting on that front but this is just the beginning of that kind of that data dive and to see how need to improve thank thank you Dr Capital project [Music] update [Music] good evening
Jeff Andrew with DPL Jim lard with tetrach uh again trying to give a update of where we are and where we're [Music] going what we're going to cover today is the the main capital project and some Anar your uh you know site adjacent aspects with the Cal ALB project the energy performance contract and allow some time for questions uh Capital project again we had this project scheduled over 2 years uh We've you know put this slide up there before about where we are what work is going to be done uh so far we're keeping on track of the schedule Hill the brand building was complete the work that we're dealing with on this project uh substantial completion we're looking for somewh of 2024 and again you know an updated slide showing where we are between
all of the work that we've got going on the phase two where we've captured all the Capital Construction and showing that we are inde need currently on target uh covering some of the work I know Dr Ur kind of wet your appetite with some of his report with the work that we've got going on is in the High School uh we do have in the gymnasium we've got a demountable partition that's going in as well as new bleachers hopefully next time that we have uh a meeting we'll show some slides on that Improvement that we've got around the perimeter of the building this is the exterior insulation and finishing system that we're replacing uh the areas in green that are marked there we just have new windows everywhere that there's red we're actually replacing that
exterior skin on the building on the back side where the parking is is the area where we have the shop classes that are in there that has a different construction the rest and we had to work through some of the details there and that'll be some work that we've got going on in the near future all of the other areas that are marked barring you know good weather we will be complete with at the end of this week kind of shows a slide same elev of the building the top is the uh was the existing building the bottom is where we are construction wise the new colors they have yet to put the band of blue at the bottom that'll go in there and that's the 100 Wing that is facing Washington Avenue and again
a few more pictures kind of showing the the areas of work around we do have to finish up the roofing face just so you can see the additional flap of roofings there to protect the ex ior uh skin that work we're hoping to start uh Friday and I know that next week is currently calling for rain so we'll see how we do in being able to get to that area CU we really don't want to be out there when we do have rain coming in High School auditorium uh top couple of pictures you can see on the left was the existing control Booth built out of the 2x4s and whatever else was cobbled together on the right side we have uh the framing and drywall of the new control Booth uh bottom few pictures shows
how the uh tile the lvt is going in the blue area is where there will be seeding I know there's some people that puted their head in there and thought we had a pool that is just tile uh and then the uh there'll be a cream color that will determine the aisles as you go there uh kill Elementary School with concrete ramp 88 curve drop which is complete uh we also have some railing to install uh the stone cap as you see in the picture that's the masonry that they put in uh for those ramps and then at the top that stone cap they've had to put some temporary measures while we're waiting for the stone to arrive and then the next is almost a side by side picture the left is the original entry
uh the right is the new ramp uh we do have that ramp locked off until we have that hand rail and currently we understand that that's uh going to be installed on our about November [Music] 1st uh Morse Elementary School uh again kind of the work that we have shown in the top is the expansion to the gym we're calling it an addition a stage a platform whatever stage okay uh with that uh again we had some abatement of the gymnasium uh that work uh rooms that are there there all complete the CMU that's framing that Edition is complete the bar joist are in metal deckings installed uh Roofing again that work we're hoping to start this Friday uh North half of the gym uh will be portion in there in the construction zone uh
separating with until that fire curtain is in we've got that new wall that we've put in there showing kind of the extent on the right side we've got uh currently some uh pads there so that we can continue to go on continue to play in that area and still have protection for the children uh the other pictures in the lower leftand corner uh are showing the masonry that's going up and I did stopped by before I showed up here and since that picture was taken they've almost tripled the amount maining work is on that oneall uh regarding Elementary School this kind of plays into what we'll be talking about as well the capital outlay projects uh we have progressed with flooring uh we are at the point now where we're in kind of final negotiations
with uh the contractor close out their contract complete punch list work and uh wrak that off as as complete Jim you want to pick up this slide sure so excuse me moving forward uh with the capital outlays really trying to to work together as a project team to come up with a n defying process so we can keep having these uh annually so really what this is outlining is just kind of a a four-year process um so the first year you're you're really voting or getting it in the budget year two would be the planning and design of the project uh the third year you're spending the money so meaning you've actually got SC approval you're bidding the project and tempering the costs and then the four year you would actually be receiving building Aid
back at The District's ratio for that so that's the process that uh we're going to be looking at moving forward one of the things I would like to note though is so if you're doing these annually you're going to keep having these things at different Points each project each year so it's an ongoing process for all the projects and then hopefully Jeff I think went over this last time when I couldn't be here um really truly this should be the last time we talk about the EPC um it's in close out right now we're in the process of uh getting seed certificates of uh substantial completion things like that over through the district to S uh so really everything's complete and uh the Esco so honey Wellness the Energy Services Company is going to continue
to monitor uh the savings on what their work was as well as if there's any warranty work or things of that nature that come up that they need to address since we know that parts of that system for sure haven't been tested to a full I heas yet with that I don't know if there's any questions from the board appreciate your time thank you thank you thank you we'll move to board member [Music] remarks Mr thank you Mr Tolman um like to welcome everybody to mount Marion it's nice to be here as a former Alum I think I'm one of two board members that may have graduated from Mount Maran uh many years ago I'd like to thank Meredith Mills our student rep I know she's gone but I appreciate to appreciate those updates uh
truly truly appreciate them and I was able actually to attend the Mumble very very uh fortunately uh I say despite the rain uh because it was a tremendous tremendous win and more importantly the the Mumble like like any kind of homecoming event it's really a pretty pretty spectacular and a special event to see um the community come together in that respect so simply having the wind was the icing on the cake and somebody told me it rained I was just so enthralled to day I didn't even I didn't even notice uh thank you Dr kapper for that for that presentation um and just finally congratulations to all those students that have made All State uh nisma as well as what sounds like it's going be a very tremendous uh ending to we're hoping uh the
sports season for all of our students um so those are my comments thank you anyone else okay um board president's remarks thank you Dr kapler for showcasing all the uh wonderful programs that you have um you know this year I think I'm torn between uh trying to find a relationship uh for uh students that are in special needs and in need of mental health and uh the poverty that's out there in the community U I think they go hand in hand and uh it's tough when you hear about a family living in a campground you wonder how that child can be ready for school and ready to landar so I'm hoping that in partnering with the different Community agencies we can help to alleviate some of the poverty that's out there so that we can
alleviate some of the mental health problems that it causes uh I think there's nothing happens by accident I think it's all fine so I think beyond the the U offerings that you have we also need to have the community come behind uh and recognize that U there are some families in very dire need um you know a counselor can't help you if you're starving um if you can get a meal in you U and then talk to a counselor you're better off and some of our families um the community has recognized that through the backpack program through the score store and things like that that we have to supply needs above and beyond what the school can do so I'll leave it at that um I'll entertain a motion for personnel items J1 through Q
yes by Mr ball is there a second Miss Bosa any discussion none being heard I'll call for a vote all in favor say I entertain a motion for business first recommendations items K1 through k6 move Mr Po is that a second any discussion um yeah I would just on um I just wanted to just item uh three about the extracurricular classroom activities um just reviewing those and just recognizing that the number of uh activities that we do provide for our students um all these clubs it it you know demonstrates the value that the district places on these uh clubs and the you know enriching basically the educational experience of our students um and the one thing I and you know we do it showcases most of what's on the secondary level but we do you
know show that these clubs also existed the elementary level we approved tonight advisers for drama club and for uh student council um but the one thing I do want to you know address is that you know the at the Ed at the elementary level they don't get the same experience at the secondary level because you know in this past year we've taken away um the extracurricular accounts for these clubs to use and you know I really think that you know we do a disservice from the learning capacity of getting students you know the drama club to maybe fund raise for new costumes or student council fund raise to donate to Charities um like the score store something to that effect so you know I would really like to um ask the respectfully ask the district
to look at how we can utilize or get elementary schools some access to funding accounts uh so that they can um you know fully experience the extracurricular activ thank you any further discussion none being heard I'll call for a vote all in favor say I I Bo action discussion items I entertain a motion to approve items 1 through 17 that a second Mr W yes sir uh discussion none being heard I'll call for a vot say hi hi hi committer reports vo committee um we haven't had a meeting yet um since the last meeting but we are scheduled to have a meeting on November 6th um and that is probably you know most likely going to be going over the uh external audit results for the district thank you we had our meeting's everybody we
had our meeting October 4th I want to thank Jim and Jeff for their presentation that was everything we covered in the meeting uh the next one will be Wednesday November 1st at 5:00 p.m. poliy I unfortunately didn't make the meeting if Dr would want to put anybody in sure i' appreciate that so so at uh at policy we discussed examining the code of conduct particularly the infraction part of it uh Miss Kaya Lane was in the audience tonight is going to lead that charge um with that we also discussed uh the participation and graduation policy which I think is 7 7,220 or so um so we're going to we at you call at the end of last year we uh amended that policy and adopted it we said we would come back to it and
revisit it and kind of clarify any language or anything that needs it so we'll hope to have an update on that next month thank you Dr UK uh public recognition anybody from the public wish to speak to the board please approach the podium okay I will entertain a motion for the board to recess into the executive session move by Mr pson is there a second I'll second second by m k uh any discussion none being heard I'll call for a vot fa say I thank you thank for coming out we're going to go to Executive session but we don't anticipate the coming at to vote on any [Music] others
