003like to hold them down so I can recognize the French foreign [Music] let me share a little bit about pressure first of all foreign [Music] foreign [Music] dignity simply put he is an exceptional young man he will be missed if you further to studying at the University of South Carolina is with the tremendous amount of product they introduced to do this evening without oriented class of 2023 Mr Michael Beasley foreign [Music] for a moment very few people know how can you be working the central office to deal with the uh not only the detail running at the district if you're dealing with the staff and the anxiety and making sure that all of our 2400 students and 5000 parents and one thousand employees are getting everything they need and these two have done that a

004problem with great skills [Music] thank you okay I don't know Christine all that long but I do know that she's got one of the festivals [Music] so we gotta hit it off um I do know that Christina is an extremely dedicated to public education so the students and the family and she has shown that here in Brazil she has um so leadership is so much easier team players I believe those are the things that have opened the doors [Music] but here in Salem because you know the thing that draws out about that [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign thank you [Music] thank you possibility [Music] content information [Music] foreign thank you I just want to remind you to increase it to the room are not terrific so it's important to leave the microphones YouTube microphone

005for everyone again I just want to thank the community um we've had a wonderful school here we've had wonderful things throughout Sayville I want to thank the teacher Mr engage the monitors the custodian the clerical every part of this organization our security guards today's work there tell the make sure that our students have what they need from business saving to uh [Music] this month then and would you support that automatically [Music] our principal looked into it uh we had two items we thought were kind of on the test so we took them out but for the most part everything off in there we only support that every child needs to be able to go to school feel cared for feel safe and be able to express foreign what's happening on Facebook with adults I have

006no idea um and I really don't think going anywhere say anything negative about anything or Mrs treating anyone talking to anyone about our children or about adults we're about groups uh we don't believe in you but we believe that every single child and every single person on school deserves because they're going to be honored in order to be supported and who they are and we will continue to fight with them we also do not even know anything from wrestling any racism and uh miscrement of people based on the English or who they are we will not tolerate that and install the naval theater only against that um but referral dogs investigating on social media while we'd like to give them detention but if you notice us anything if they ever teachers speech your teachers education

007we will support you and make sure that you know so I just want to make that statement up front and the Mark was talking about things at the elementary school maybe the Middle School in South High School are going phenomenally well and we're really proud of the work of teachers we're proud to work about age and uh and we shouldn't let social media involved it otherwise that role is kind of not aligned it but we're seeing at the real world so that's our state and that's my report for tonight thank you very much [Music] um next topic is board discussion item that we have on board the studies plus and uh with uh John odone leading the board we wanted to start probably on foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] I just want to point

008out sorry uh the loss of John O'Donnell awarded things I I you know and I appreciate Tom before uh um yeah the teacher of the leadership I think he's stuck together and I think remaining of those you know but I'm also I look at this team and I think I have a lot of confidence that we can move forward and you know we're going to talk about it um I'm just thinking about what I think the election should be responsible thank you I'd like to say um please come and talk to us um some people find it to be scary timing um and a lot of work it is all of those things but it's also very good morning and um we're really doing we're really trying to do great things up here and I've

009been feeling we've had a lot of success especially this year if anyone has any questions or they'd like to talk about it what it entails just snacks sit down if not you talk about it I know myself and I'm sure any other number of your readings we'd really like to have some people that are really interested to show their show their interests with that super really good decisions [Music] thank you [Music] so whatever we can decide [Music] thank you suggestions okay so I guess [Music] um okay um the next item on our discussion is uh the Board of Education [Music] yes it's a location capability is to take advantage so basically just so everyone understand that we did surveys of our parents our students and our staff in the fall we also get the open

010screen so we've spent an entire year [Music] work with our teachers and our principals that they've been doing all year and then kind of put that into a clear plan so that in September we can say to everyone this is who we are to say no this is what we're having any more for our kids it means the outcome we want from the time they entered kindergarten until they graduate Facebook and then once we have that as our goal and those are established that every single faculty member of parent and student Rose in the same direction and aims to those goals from kindergarten to pre-kate through 12th grade and we like that approach to take some of the voices of our families it takes in the voice of our staff and the voices of our

011own students to kind of agree with that but that Retreat today would leave us looking at that going through the detail to that important and trying to kind of hone in on what your board goals will be for the future here you started here last summer language [Music] thank you I just wanted to kind of make it common I think one of the things I'd appreciate you about for the first time I think William in our school's history and I've been paying attention for a long time uh I've been paying attention for a long time I think this is the first time about I've been paying attention maybe I should have asked the community what would we do as well what we want to describe for us um but one thing I wanted to specifically

012say so returned to Talent Educators capacity of students was I was still questioning kind of graduated out and have a date so Dr Paris stepped off and say which they didn't work and I think for me that was one of the more inspiring things that we see this year because it meant that everybody where we asked her if you mentioned uh I couldn't be more happy about using thank you um let's go to the next item on our discussion with the planes anybody thanks everybody okay um our finances are orderly what do you stay at it for about private it wasn't very excited thank you very much [Music] thank you okay uh next will be Republican comments the Board of Education and our administrators listening to what members of our community is like so and

013we passed uh regulations specified by law and policy as we encourage our community members to the Board of Education the Board of Education requests anyone that participated in the moments that have been demonstrated ability and they address the form uh the Board of Education meetings are held a publicly opportunity to watch and listen to the competitors of the board they didn't intervene into the disrepair updates on board with a participants there are very support on average to play board anything required to take passion Farm matters invaded industry operators and board policy 12 30 provides the opportunity for a periods [Music] foreigners thank you would like to see can we have a couple so then you know I guess we'll start on a person you just take your way up to the microphone and many businesses

014uh good evening can you hear me yes yes Administration and School Board trustees thank you very much for your sorry my wife graduated from Sayville High School along with her recently I have four nations and nephews here and my mother-in-law work I understand that some parents are upset at the great hallway there's display associated with private life they take issues with pride flags and know that it is stirring of progression in their kids and that some of their kids want to physically destroy the display one accepting person can decrease a gay or gender expansive Young Person's risk of suicide by about 40 percent just by being supportive just by being kind it's a choice every student can make a declining one to another student may be different than someone every single student must have got

015saved it's supported when they walk into the doors of their school each morning so they can focus on academics sports clubs friends and fun and so they can develop a prayer for the world and for high school and guess what if they go on to college to win a corporate term the military the police force all of these entities have policies in place that support all people when those students grow up what will be the caution of destroying the pride display at the place of employment I hope that all parenting stable important with all students Educators Administration and the Board of Ed to ensure that all students are safe at school and not only tolerate it if they are different in some way but that all students are embracing at school every single one saving

016has always been a welcoming community that Embraces all and let's continue that uh um and they start over here um I understand that um [Music] the Facebook comments and other experiences I'm not for the first time [Music] teachers [Music] I was certainly not accept that or believed by all stabilizable at the time do not have outlets at least that I know of that would allow me to learn the conversation necessary environmentally as if they didn't answer in fact a handful of queer people that I knew and say that or were picked out of their homes and or have severe depression I suffered tremendously from the environment questions now supporting school would have provided a safe outlet for some of us who are struggling and we love them some of us will have to choose when

017they could or could not probably be ourselves after singing this song we're good at the song about friendship and acceptance of my high school graduation I attended Wagner College where I showed here in Arkansas mediate myself for having pictures speaking of my girlfriend back at the time something I was terrified of doing much now I announced DFO of reminds scholarship run a fun that my parents and I already ended up in the Lost of my brother at 27 years old last night I had the privilege of presenting this award for the preservatives of students providing a significant monitor of scholarships with one high school senior after the third year my speaking this evening is not to tell you about myself but the Ultimate Experience of a clear member that they can effort to give back

018to our civilizations [Music] my career has led me to a medical position in an organization that's purpose is to fund Public Schools our programs have been done with extensive research on the impact of Social and emotional learning I could go through statistics and spreadshaking with you but I will leave you with the main outcome of incentives social and emotional learning is essential the supportive posters and it will encouragement that a staff member of student organizations and others have made visible within the hallway of the single middle school private school outside of the classrooms are just as important as the equations being learned inside the classroom I certainly would have benefited from knowing that any assignments before allies or supportive of me with the Warframe people from New York Public Schools the support offers the students

019through my brother's scholarship funds and the love that I have on this community and I encourage you to support the lead and among our students with all Mexicans [Music] thank you good evening um I cannot follow that uh my name is Tim Thompson and I'm a volunteer with a defensive democracy a national bipartisan non-profit organization we advise for an inclusive public education system that Sayville Public Schools also support and inclusive public and Leadership system on Facebook from a parent who was at victim her child had just come out as friends and this mother did not know what to do she was at a loss because he did not want to quote support our trials visionism and animals because I have to say that any support should be found supports Madness she is referring to the

020minimum expanded of repair giving to plans brother she believes that the government and education system and medical community are stacked against her because according to confirm they encouragedy as a parent she is deciding against the standard of care given to people who are friends why she is a member of the Suffolk County chapter of homes for Liberty [Music] error [Music] I also wonder if this child it's going to pursuing that because there's no support at home is not alone there are so many other afraid to come out to their parents for fear and retribution home is not a safe place for them and according to an AP news story that was published yesterday more lgbtqiated less students feel schools becoming increasingly unsafe for them as well why because more states are capacity anti-lgbt but this

021lady may be at an alarm and then they act in a neighboring school district one I wrote immediate the initial letter okay one LGBT student was friendly no problem thank you I was just asking I'm giving you this pride flag and I want signal to be a Beacon of Hope to not feel safe at home so that the baby can feel safe in school thank you thank you uh right at the um good evening my name is David Hillman uh pronouns and I am the founder and president of the LGBT I one okay I really wanted to come up and say thank you for just laying down the law pretty much and saying that all students here will be um supported not just Etc but supportively celebrating and nurtured and you are a model [Music]

022um ironically my social media 23 years ago a memory pop-up on my social media our organization held the first ever prom in the suburbs for LGBT Beauty and it was less than a mile from here at what was the island Hills Country Club and I'll never forget that day with over 250 young lgbtq that had a smile on their face where they were just needing to be free to be that was the pain and what you are doing here what you are doing here is enabling our students to do that and so it is such a pleasure to come to a school board meeting this year to Simply say thank you it really means a lot and happy pride and we hope that everyone comes the Long Island Pride this weekend which will be invited

023on June 11th thank you [Music] foreign [Music] but seeing the disgusting things uh was gonna make me feel like I really didn't feel very sick but I've heard group here it's going to continue every single morning brought to my past for you to see if I was pregnant but these people are on Facebook come through in their house and they talk about gay kids [Music] and he saw me I'm an album educator for 12 years starring that four people are offended by that as a crowd uh but I am an out educator in this state of new office and when this gentleman saw me very apologies saying I'm sorry and as a kid of a prayer sitting there watching this guy and I'm saying a little bit not doctorating you're just saying you know I

024was at my fifth grade secret what I'm sure a lot of people there as a teacher that you know knowing of something [Music] and I bet it is as people on the board and then you've done tonight was beautiful as someone who is the sdlr there's a Bible Journey as an educator being at home not talking about it it's nothing it's part of these I gotta tell you people that are these Liberty pages [Music] we don't talk about this very well so I really explore the people behind me are there anymore [Music] thank you that's okay foreign for those students and empowering but I'll go with that for everything because building principle so I'm proud to speak about complaining the world of Landing a school board member so I've been coming to meeting for about

02520 years more on and off but it's regular over the last 15. so the companies not the six is good thank you it shouldn't be appointed people not constantly maybe even exceptional situation but the business you know we have a four hundred thousand dollar service 16 000 and we moved on the vagina plan right [Music] communities I understand your world together well let us know in this community would work well together everybody is here for the kids I think that's important I won't let them know that you can't set it aside on purpose and have fun doing people have to vote the other account that I just wanted to bring up I wanted to make Sam he has been a breath of fresh air I usually deal with the business superintendent when I can foil

026information or when I'd like to go and find it's missing too I think with Dennis I'm sure you all too and um totally honest it's loaded with this entire videos research have been told me and it's true is truly refreshing and I don't miss learning from you sound and working with you the short time that we passed you're leaving will be our lunch but it will be a case and I wish you the best thank you for coming to these meetings this is your last one so but I want to say even soon before you leave I haven't had to work with you but parents have told me you have been truly accommodating with that and I wish you the best congratulations thank you yes hello my name is Christ here in Salem and I

027was in advance so I just wanted to say that you're speaking tonight in which you can look forward to the way you express it so holy and coincides and with who we are not the people are needing to be extremely honored and respected in all the great of The Many Wonders of diverse ways and things have been created the fact anything that as we get to know gender it is all of its Expressions that in fact we're seeing the face of God and only awaiting all the different ways to be able to stand up you save lives by what your position is you may say of course but who accept everybody but what a student or a colleague or a family member or an other comes up to you and looks at you and is

028taking that moment to share their deepest Darkness secretly feel you not knowing whether you're going to embrace them and push them away when you welcome them and show them that this school district and your heart is a safe place for them you stay lives so thank you for that thank you for helping students to find a place in the world where they're going to need gifts to be shared and express them in creating a world I think all hope is out there that we all work each day in all of our different ways to make happen and to assure that even those who disagree with us but whatever the issues they do and I don't think that how we treat queer people or any person is an issue I don't think people can be objectified

029in that way these eliminating breathing human beings try to live their life and you thank you to know that to happen in all the ways you can go before and especially the way you've said tonight and I agree with what has been said it's a marvelous and wonderful thing it takes courage and art and a deep understanding of what you're called to do all your students thank you thank you um so I think what everyone said tonight is very inspiring we truly love it from the bottom of my heart and this is a question in Paul's sincerity what do we do for the children not the feeling anything lgbtq which is that they don't want to play so much in the school what do we do for those children that are not comfortable with it

030in schools yes because we're talking about coming to a place in the middle right eating on both sides and that's my concern I'm all for lgbtq I'm a health teacher I want my students to always feel love have a place to come to if you know me I go above and beyond my students I act like you're their mother and they know they can come to me if they're suicidal yay it's just free whatever the case is so this is not me coming from a place of I want things to be divided this is me I'm going to be that person and I want to try to bring things in the middle together so what do we do to be kid that goes to school and they don't they have no problem with it they

031can talk about it at home they can talk about it with their friends but in school for them they look at a place out of education and they don't want it in their face so much so what do we do for those kids because now we're here tonight which is great all these people are here and they're all for pride and they're like it's amazing and I think people should Express themselves in any way they want to feel but what do we do for the children that Lauren has come to um [Music] I just want us to figure out how to come together I don't like it being so divisive and to me that's what breaks my heart always and I appreciate the question I think one of them in general relationship but I want

032to let everyone else absolutely absolutely and I just have one more thing so I know I still have plenty of tonight so James Burch um has a photo of him Donald Trump's throat so we're talking about in device appropriate is coming to a place in the middle you can put your political differences aside you shouldn't be falling on to violence for anybody no matter so I just think that our board members should not be kneeling on some wrote when I'm going to die um [Music] oh hi everybody my name is Janice and my son does what I have sincerely he could have taken you seven hundred thousand dollars we found another lovely community board please start some we can choose this District because he has an LGBT it is [Music] suicide [Music] so what you

033are doing here saves lives thank you uh yeah okay um um since I was a kid I wrote a social justice of oriented I heard of regarding protests and the minority almost surrounded lies the print community my grandmother my father's father was one of the founders one of the first therapy programs my dad says and as a third generation Ally I actually worked in Paris I worked in the past for the past few years and the happiness has been displayed by the queer Community the opposite of what I see involved in this year my record of 70 and the eligibility acted so far I was here this is out according to um was at the end of the night and it's gone since then and according to the gardening more than 50 of trans and

034non-binary best considered suicide this year and this was at the end of 2019 so this was before the 70 plus things occur about 7 000 this year and save this home to many many in this room including my dad James Birch and notable in terms of the queer community and Cherry Grove has been a home to the group communities since 40th and 50s and Appliance since the 50s and attitude based Anonymous and happiness what I've seen not only from the gay community but the lesbians my sexual transgender we're intersex and Central plus concealed happiness and that's what I hope is showing towards thank you because my name is I've been a member of the same old Community World Fair experience and I'm a psychologist I worked in the local school district and now I'm full-time

035Private Practice I've raised the children of Saint and I'm going to say that from the time he came out of 2012. I always felt that there was nothing but a place to come out Sable was nothing but acceptance and he had a wonderful education here and a wonderful feeling of acceptance and he's actually a new dialogue but he's now getting his imaginative to really social work at the University of Pennsylvania and with the intention of Adam he does health care for LGBT children and adults so that anime I believe was the result of the feeling as accepted as he did um I was a civil psychologist one long time and I know that when you're in schools a lot of things happen with kids that make him feel comfortable man science um and diversity and

036I think we have the responsibility to teach children to tolerate all those things that make them uncomfortable because that's what provides the life skills um that they need so I want to thank the schools for the education they've provided and clear living tonight are continuing to the desire to provide thank you [Music] very much my name is Allison Rossi and I'm the mom of two boys an eighth grader and a fourth grader I know the need to come to speak tonight to bring something polite that is happening far more often and than most are aware in our districts racism and anti-Semitism are here in our district more than most would like to admit our family has had to deal with it over the last three years that our older son has been in middle school

037and in the last few weeks it escalated to find us I will say that so far the support from the Middle School's administrators related to this incident and other non-anti-semitic incidents pertain to our son being teas and fully has been appropriate so thank you um however I'm still left with some discomfort after the situation was handled and we have to we had a quote unquote moved on in this situation one student I'm not naming any names um one student waited for him outside of the classroom after the period in response to work so we're going back and forth between my son and his friend and two other students in the class and the student pitched him through all his belongings at her of their belongings admin including a Chromebook and saying some Choice anti-semitic comments

038there was at least one other student who shared in making a remarks While others stood by and watched even supposedly joined in with some painful words my child wasn't physically heard except for lightrooms but the words that were sent under the worst one he was asking weird to her number referring to the Tattoo's number of the numbers tattooed on the prisoner's arms and making it away their identity of all the camps he was told to go back to the yesterday verse he was called an excuse my language but um so that's what you are um but my biggest issue is that I have with the whole situation um that happened is not necessarily that my son was picture Pro things that yes it's terrible for sure but the words are more hurtful than anything to

039my knowledge the student that has actually received a one-day useful suspension um and the others that were involved in the hateful speech between their class and another class just the period before were spoken to and their parents were called and that's not enough other districts have a much stronger response than ours and there needs to be a no tolerance policy for people speech whether racist anti-semitic or even just every labeling that occurs about gender identity or your choices yes we've heard it all over the past five years in our things need to change and how much people responds to concerns like these and need to change now and I know there's a community being formed to work on this and then trying to people involved the education has to reach our families besides the students

040as this is learned behavioral whether from their peers or their parents or relatives parents need to know what their children are watching on YouTube and other social media there is so much out there influencing our kids experience the things my son tells me that his friends are finding online are learning to say the least and another big issue I have is that while some some specific teachers should be commended for their huge source of support for my son during this incident there are also teachers who are far from supporters in the class before the incident I just spoke about um my son was being hit on the head within the prostate while another student was making some people comments and teasing him about his necklace that had a Jewish symbol on it my son was

041responding to it and the teacher blamed my son for the incident this is not the first time he had tried to tell him he's having issues and he does not seem to want to mean anything my son tries to say so much so that he has the same teacher for a first class and refuses to go in in the morning and honestly you can call me about him all that I let him skip it I'm personally I'm just done um so multiple other families and students have shared stories Jewish and you're on doing and it's Jewish and it's too much they should not have to be dealing with this to the extent that they are aside from the education needed on hurtfulness of the words and their impact we need to find a way to

042educate the teachers the staff the students and the families on how to respond on these incidents and where to go and where and how to go from there once they happen the students don't take it seriously I will say the one lesson that was done in the history classes seems to be well received from what our son told us but that's only coming from one class and in other classes and the certain incidents happened um other incidents as the teachers were talking from the classroom response apparently multiple kids were laughing not paying attention making fun of the situation and the teacher apparently didn't do anything to change it when my son was sharing what happened with his teenage after school one of the students woke up and said I don't know what the big deal

043is anti-Semitism isn't really that bad I'm sorry um that anti-Semitism isn't really that bad and I don't understand why you're upset that should say at all or where we are now we need to find a real way to Target anti-Semitism and racism and bullying in our schools saved it was way too small of a community to hurt one another by the words and actions that we use and things can't keep getting swept under the road they need to be spoken about to political Community here's what's going on things need to change and I appreciate yours yes [Music] I just wanted to make sure that was known by more than investors thank you thank you [Music] hi my name is another daughter [Music] to make sure that every student knows a thing about it and safe

044and supported especially with myself may not receive that support at all that said not every adult from this community agrees with those that have complained and why I was there as a whole minority of adults and say though that will find the responsible price like for being too big or too informative or to encouragement these adults cannot speak with all of us many of us believe that you cannot find out not enough to be done to support our lgbtq plus you and I thank the board has to be Administration for allowing the teachers and Allied groups to design this is appropriate and helpful to sleep and take a server thank you with comments or questions and I'm gonna just overly say thank you to every voice here imagined and I do appreciate that my name

045is everybody will respect one another with the religion model for our children whether you're able to listen to each other to dialogue and to definitely understand where people are coming from I think that there is so much more we have in common that everybody in this room that we realize and the more time we came to talk about things to show you the stuff then the better we can get to a place where everyone feels loved and supported in the way to be shared um I think actually um um Eleanor who came up with some social Media budget which I was trying to think about what I was answering the child growth uncomfortable and frustrated and angry about the same people talking about it I'm feeling before you just talking about regarding frustrated it bothers

046me uh talked about that we've had programs and advisory with kids that speak about different things I know people think that we were here to learn Math Science Social in English but we're also here to learn about problem solving collaboration teamwork and having a seating life and those skills are so important in every job or places you can go it's so important to embed that in an opinion of our curriculum so we embed in that opportunities to discuss with history in terms of the Holocaust or the World War II or the Civil Rights Movement but also where are we now since I've been ready and so uh substance like that and seventh May create an appropriate all the way to the high school connected the more that we've seen about and we take the past

047special events and discussions throughout our schooling um [Music] learning how to express that other people around you to talk about it instead of doing anything about it is really a helping way to um foreign [Music] thank you for the comments this is school year I really am grateful from the bottom of my heart to be able to participate as a member of the community I love Sayville and I I want to say that my life wasn't anything it's the best way to the Republicans next foreign [Music] thanks so much hello good evening my name is uh lgbtq are among the most vulnerable and more supplies in our system I'm proud that we've grown up in a place that aims to make sure every type of person feels well known regardless of their sexuality prevent their

048identity both in our community we are not perfect but something like a private play in school is an example of where we do found a display like that lets those who are struggling to their advantage who may come home and do not accept them or feel the hatred through small vocal minority in their own communities you'll stay welcome and ready to learn when they in school unfortunately and if you are aware of tonight a small number of dedicated extruders Affiliated largely Southern Poverty Law Center range baby listed in Europe mom's reality of spoken elements into private groups and other discussing these displays sadly even in private forms that this room shows I come to say that many others may do not understand one Community they do not representative [Music] thank you okay you should be

049allowed as I said they don't know anything um so one of the things that I think is important all right let's begin uh keep the conversation with the board um K12 we use a reading and writing Workshop approaches because we find it very ridiculous competition but it doesn't suffer all the significant awareness within the sun Dives are struggling and you are constantly looking to redesign and use the study because they may need to assume and one of the things it doesn't have to be because you can call it rear radio [Music] to connect that but other research these approaches let's imagine a company so I think that we're constantly looking at that and we're going to be involving our programs over time based on the research that we know and supporting our leaders our goal
