Good evening. Please rise and join me in the pledge. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, we will begin our meeting tonight and talk to administrative report >> with Matthew Kind student report. Matthew, take it away. >> Good evening. >> Um, so first I'd like to say I hope everyone had a great Super Bowl. >> Thanks, man. >> Of course. So, with the school year rapidly progressing, our guidance counselors are now in the process of collecting requests for students as they continue to develop to develop next schedule. So, that's an exciting part of the year. And this week also includes the 100th day of the year. So, it be

exciting to see all the kids dress up as 100 year olds and pretend to be the elderly, which is nice. Last Thursday, the Harper had their literacy night. And last Friday, the Minor hosted their parent game night with the National Honor Society members from the high school volunteering at the Owen Magic Camp. So, it's been exciting at the elementary schools as well. And the matter was today. So, I wonder who won that. In addition, the park theme for the harbor this year is leading around the world. and Mrs. Work who is a Harvard parent. She came as a keynote speaker. So she's the author of the confused dude book series and she spoke about being an illustrator in the middle school. The sixth grade class welcomed in a guest speaker from the Nasser County Holocaust

Memorial and tolerance center. This was an incredible opportunity for the students to learn deeper about the history through personal accounts, especially because the sixth grade is currently reading Jacob's rescue. So, another great keynote. The middle school is also bringing back the annual scholastic book fair. So, it gives the students the opportunity to bring books home to read. And two weeks ago, the high school hosted bike and vision day where eighth grade students came to the building and ran through a box schedule. And while this was happening, the high schoolers participated in a family feud game centered around secret scholar traits. And also they attended a distracted driving assembly by JC Good whose story is always incredible but heartbreaking to hear. Sponsored by the PTSA, the seniors also had their senior sit with hot chocolate and

donuts. So a huge thank you to them. And in addition with the PCSA on Saturday, Seafood had their free heart screening opportunity which was a huge success. of 198 students and many adults you see discreet for free and potentially prevented any heart complications from occurring down the road. So this was an incredible opportunity and many community members took advantage of it and our high school nurse miss accompanied by Miss Ko Dr. Jac and many administrators they all volunteered the whole day volunteering so thank you to everyone and a huge thank you to Mr. And even better thank you to the booster club for breakfast and the bonus council for lunch. Students are also currently in the process of completing both their se literacy and the se of civic readiness. So that's a great process we're

very proud of as well. In addition, senior words applications were just released. So that's a great honor for the seniors announced. And last but certainly not least bracket leadership team is hosting PSI love you day this Friday. So, we encourage everyone to purchase and wear purple t-shirts to promote kindness, positivity, and mental health awareness. So, that wraps up my student report for today. In all, super rolling with a bunch of initiatives and keynote speakers. So, a lot of good news to take on. Thank you. Have a great evening. >> Very good. Thanks so much. Appreciate it, >> Matt. That may have been your best one yet. >> No pressure for the next one. Okay. So, um, just to highlight a couple of things. Matt did such a wonderful job. I just like to expound on

some of them. First, I'd like to congratulate the boys bowling team for being national county champions. So, congratulations to them. >> Congratulations. >> And I do want to spend a little bit of time talking about the heartscreen New York. So this year the theme for our faculty, staff and administrators is centered around the butterfly effect and how one small act can have a tremendous impact through a series of subsequent actions and we called it the Viking effect and and I think that that day Saturday was an example of the Viking effect in action and there were a number of volunteers tremendous amount of administrators volunteered their on a Saturday. It was a very very cold day. Uh the weather conditions did not accommodate us. Uh yet we still tested 198 students and we identified two

students that needed further testing which is really the purpose of that. I'd like to um really give a heartfelt thank you to the wellness council because the wellness council actually brought it to Mr. Wit. had done this about 12 year 12 15 years ago and uh so the wellness council initiated that conversation and then Mr. Whit brought it to us and um he and with the support of Dr. Jacob were really the people that were on the forefront of that. I can't say enough about the work that Mr. Costa and his crew did too. It really was a very very much a team effort and it wouldn't have been possible at all without the two moms that that run this wonderful event and that's Karen Aapakora and Melinda Murphy and they're on site and they

are just forces and so inspirational for the work that they that they had done and you know unfortunately how the work began is heart-wrenching because both of them lost their children due to an undetected heart condition, one on the lacrosse field and the other on basketball court. So, we we deeply appreciate the work that they do. There were over a hundred volunteers here that day and we're very grateful. Also, as Matt so nicely pointed out that the breakfast was um was was paid for by our booster club. So, Bridget again comes to the rescue with with her executive board. And then also the wellness council did an incredible lunch for everybody. And again um thanking Ms. Rivera, she's the president now of the wellness council and Donna Da Batist um did a amazing job um

coordinating that. And Donna also works in our main office at the manor. >> It's wonderful. >> I I think I said her name wrong. Donna Da estabid >> estid. Okay. So I know last names. No, well this one's French, so I should be able to do it. So okay, and uh just a little bit about the Viking Vision Day. We had that on January 30th. It was an incredible day for the kids and focused a lot around secret scholarship traits. There was a wonderful family feud as as Matt so nicely mentioned. made a guest speaker that gave a very powerful message about not being distracted when you're driving and the good choices that we can make in life. And I thought I agree with you, Matt. Very inspirational and very heart heartwarming. In addition to

that, the eighth graders had come over. There was a curriculum fair. There was um exposure to some of our extracurricular activities. And Dr. and Michel have done an amazing job of making more transitionary activities for the eighth graders or the rising n eighth graders through 9th grade and I just wanted to give a shout out for that because we attended several of the sessions that day and it it was really fantastic. So I agree with you 100% Matt. Uh quick little update on UPK. Mr. Stfalino is in the process of placing all of the students based upon um positioning in the lottery. So we're still working on that. So hopefully by the next board meeting we'll have more of a determination. At this point everybody that has been awarded a seat knows about that. It's

just a matter of whether people accept the seats, they don't accept the seats and then what that does in the trickle down effect of taking people off of the weight list. >> So um any questions about anything that we mentioned? >> It's not something they do it throughout the county. It's a mammoth effort because they literally bring in a hundred um cardiologists, doctors, nurses, um >> technicians, and I I don't also want to be remiss because you just reminded me the setup for this. Many of our students came to help the night before and set up too. So, when I say that it was really truly a Viking effect, it really truly was a Viking effect. There were a lot of hands that made the day so successful. >> Okay. Very good. Sorry. Before that,

I just want to mention on the board for board action tonight are three retirees. So, you know, as I customarily do, say a couple of kind words and then we do the huge celebration in June. So, I do want to give recognition to um the three members of our faculty that are will be retiring. Um the first is John Berry. He's been a teacher here at the since 2005 and a probationary teacher since 2008. While he was here, he did the math and Englishmies. He's been a math teacher, a classroom teachers run. He's run the math Olympiads and we really do wish him all the best in retirement. We also have Lauren Thompson who's our computer science teacher. She's retiring this year. She's taught historically business classes, computer science classes both at Seafford High School

and at the middle school. She was the computer science advisor. She was the drop club set and construction advisor. She also worked for a club that used to be called the shave club. Uh she was a school to work chair. Over the series of years she's she's done a tremendous amount u in the extracurricular world with the children and she also ran some of the AP regionsmies and together because she teaches largely elective courses she's done a lot of curriculum writing for us over the years. We wish Lauren the best and we'll celebrate these two more. >> Uh, last but not least is Dan Hayden as everybody knows. Um, I've worked very closely with Mr. Hayden um, both as the UTS vice president and and president. And Dan, I don't know how many people know,

but Dan is homegrown Seafford. So, he went to the Seaffort School District. He's a graduate of Seafford High School and he's had his whole career here at Seafford. Uh, he literally leads green. uh he's one of the best world travelers that I know um and goes to all of the Olympics. So he was in Italy, came back, I think he's going back again and then he's going to Japan again. So in retirement, um I said to him in his next journey, I know he's going to have many new journeys. >> So we wish him the best. Um Dan also was very heavily involved in the extracurricular activities for the children national junior honor society co- studentent council supervisor middle school detention advisor social studies eighth grademies he did PM detention for a while he was

an assistant spring track coach scholar athlete academy studies and of course the work that he's done in the union so we really appreciate his contributions and his dedication to the secret community and I am sure he will be retired but not completely gone. I'm sure we can stand back for a couple of things. So, um those are our three retirees and as I said we'll say wonderfully more elaborate things in June. Very good. Thank you, Dr. Pora. 018Such important work. I'm so glad we were able to do it here and um that we were able to detect some um high-risisk students um and young people who um you know know that they need to go for some further testing is really such a great thing. So thank you to all who were involved who volunteered their time. Uh it is truly appreciated and we have a national champion bowling team.
