two. I'll call this meeting to order. Um, roll call, please. >> Dr. Beckley >> here. >> Mr. Hon here. >> Mrs. Song here. Mr. Sharp >> here. >> Mrs. Here to the flag of the United States of America. and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> We have a motion to um the agenda as presented and final seconds. >> Yes, Mr. Sir. >> Yes. >> Dr. Buckley. >> Yes. >> Mr. Karen. >> Yes. >> Mrs. John. >> Yes. >> Communications. First item is to recognize retirees. Forward. Dr. Edwards. Um, so, uh, unfortunately we we don't have many with us here tonight, but we do want to take a minute and talk about the the staff members who have given years of service to the
district and um, just take a moment to honor them. Um, Carolyn Brown, Carolyn Brown is a member of our food uh, food service team up at the primary and um, really miss having her. Holly Callahan. Holly is a wonderful pair professional in our our primary school. Um it's it's great to see what Holly does with students. Very patient, very kind. Uh really works hard. So I miss Miss Holly. Mr. Panning, you one up. Mrs. Young. There we go. Thank you, Mr. Hanning. Congratulations. And Got it. Uh Mr. Hanning, we were fortunate enough to snag him to come up and serve as our um director of special services. And just want to say um David's brought a wealth of knowledge to the district. um he not only has served in a role as director of special
services but also um has given of his years of experience to um the district in many ways. So just want to thank Mr. Hanning and appreciate you your time here. >> Thank you. >> Um next is Dusty Hines. Um Dusty is he's a math teacher in our middle grades uh seventh grade math teacher. And Mrs. Cochran, do you want to say anything about >> Yeah, sure. So, Mr. Hines, um, great leader, almost teachers. He does a phenomenal job with our kids. Builds great relationships. Um, constantly in the hallway fist bumping, high-fiving, hugging. Um, the kids absolutely love him and I'm very happy for him. It's going to be a big loss for us and big shoes to fill. Um, but he's he's had a lot of years in the district. I know for me, I
didn't have him as a teacher, but he was my varsity soccer coach when I was in school here. So, it's been a full circle for us to come back and um be on the same team as him. >> Yeah. Yeah. Dusty, I'll just echo uh having my office right here in this wing. Uh you see Dusty out there. If he is not helping with open a locker, get in the locker, get a student, you know, ask answering a question, student, he's just out there having conversations and you can tell the natural rapport he has with students. Uh Jeff Tilly uh Jeff Tilly is retiring from our a program and um you know whatever you think of a man clear a program two two names come to mind Mr. Sharp and uh Mr. Tilly is definitely
the the other name. So just want to thank Mr. Tilly for his his years of service to our our students our program and our community. Um we another retiree was uh Terry Timmons. Uh Terry had the dolphin route, dolphin bus route and uh she was cool, calm and collected was Terry. Um she also would I would get on her bus and she would tell me every time I stepped on there, I have the best kids and uh that was really the way Terry looked at her bus route every day. um she took advantage of being the first person that kids saw in the mornings and the last last person that they saw in the afternoon. So, uh Terry retired in March and uh we we miss Terry, but definitely appreciate her. Um last we have
Susie Tvette. Susie Tvette has served as a library aid and principal Freley. You want to talk a little bit about Susie? >> Yes, Susie has just done a wonderful job the past five years that I've been working with her. um from just getting kids excited about the library, creating an environment where kids want to come in and read and find a good book and find a good spot to kind of snuggle down and read. Um also she's done friendship groups for us just to help kids working on some of those relationship skills and how we treat each other, what do we do when we lose a game, um we don't flip the board, how to deal with stuff like that. But she has just been a treasure in general. um she does our some of
our lunch duties as well and she just connects with the kids and enjoys them. So, and they enjoy her. So, we're definitely going to miss her. What I've noticed is she takes responsibility. She takes ownership of her kids like she want she's invested in them and whenever she would see them grow in those those small groups that she would work with, she was she wanted to see them improve and get better. So, >> and she's definitely a what do you need? What do the kids need kind of person which is nice. So at this this time of the year, it's uh you know, it's it's exciting time of the year, but also time to to show appreciation to those that many years of history. >> Thank you. >> Um the next item is public participation.
I don't have anybody listed here, so we'll move on to a student liaison report. >> It's the actual student Um, and the next item is the athletic council update. Could Robin like to give that? >> Yeah, I'll kind of just hit the highlights and a lot of numbers of students and the different winter sports, but then also fall the winter sports, the ones who got all the soth, which we have a nice list of those, which is always good to see a lot of numbers in the academic cell for that as well. Um then the southeast district, the move to the southeast district has is official. Um completed with OSAA, so that is going to be a thing versus the Central District, which is what we've been in. Um our athletic director, Tony Williams, ran
on opposition to the Southeast District Athletic Board. Obviously, we got that be on that on that board for another six years. Um he said there was a referendum for an issue where they were putting up to where if a public school didn't offer a sport that somebody asked if could a student didn't go play at a neighboring school had to be within 20 miles. Could they play at a neighboring public school? Because there's already situation where if a private school doesn't offer a sport, they can go to a local public school and play. And we've had a couple have done that. And so somebody had put out well what about if a public school doesn't have a school doesn't have a sport can they go to a neighboring school and do that and uh that
failed apparently by a certain number of votes and so you kind of mentioned the reasoning for that I mean there's um he said he wouldn't be shocked if there was some concern with whether or not there's there's always concerns conspiracies or whatever else but without people might go crazy with with trying to get kids here and there But um anyways, that was put out and failed. Um he mentioned that the seating that's done in the southeast district is different than central. A lot of times central you basically do a drawing and then you kind of pencil yourself in. You can kind of try to pick where you might want to go to have your best route. But he still with the southeast with the southeast district because just like the NCA tournament the best records
are seated one the worst are blow and the best play the worst you know where the best get by then they eventually go but it's all an automatic drawing for an automatic setup there's no coaches getting to fin will be a different thing um spring sports numbers were good in most everything. Uh, middle school softball was the only one where we only had enough for one team instead of two. Everything else we had enough for two either seven eighth grade team or JB RC team which is good. Um, a number of athletes then as well who were named first team, second team mention all league baseball, softball and track. It's it's not really coaches vote. It's just how you place in the in the league meet is you know you win your event your first
team. If you play second, your second team, if you place third, you're on. We had um several with track did that like several baseball softball players who also were recognized. Um the district track meets are going on right now, which is Mr. Bley and I were both there at the Amanda for the girls for a while. Oddly enough, our girls because they expanded track this year from three divisions to five and based it's based on numbers of boys versus girls and so forth and our boys are actually division three at Hillyard and our girls are division four at Granville. So, so that's kind of a unique situation where our boys and girls are actually at different divisions as a result. So, they're doing their meets at different spots. Um, softball season was wrapped up uh
with a game their last game there at Johnstown, the tournament game that they unfortunately lost. Baseball has a home game coming up on the 23rd against Harvest Prep and so we'll see how that goes. Hopefully it goes well and they can do some damage in the league tournament. Uh the last couple items, the menstate league, there was discussion of some expansion issues and not Logan has officially been voted into the men state league and the Buckeye division. So beginning in August of 27, but he said in a lot of ways we're already we and some other schools are already scheduling them just to kind of we're going to be in the same league anyways. guess in here. Um, Athens apparently petitioned to join the Midstate League. That's I guess in the early stages. So, there
hasn't been a vote or anything on it yet, but they have petitioned to join the league. Um, and there are various opinions on that. So, um, there's also was some discussion apparently with potentially a couple other teams. I think from Lincoln County and various others like they join and then split into three divisions versus two where's like a middle side school bracket and a small um Liberty Union was not happy with Logan coming in the league and they wanted that they moved to the Cardinal that got voted down seven to one. So there's still Buckeye for now and so there's a question as to what Liberty is going to do long term leaguewise. So anyways, there's a variety of league things boiling around. So we'll see where that all pans out. Um the fall and
winter sports schedules for next year are already completed. Uh the non-league games are largely focused on southeast district teams compared to where I used to be more central because again we'll be playing those folks at tournament games. So get look at the regular season some. Uh football is scheduled through 28 and next year we'll have six home games instead of five and then two years after that we got five and five which is standard or standard. And then the last discussion is just our situation with the softball field for middle school baseball softball field basically for the uh spring for middle school where you know currently our softball goes to Stoutsville. Yes. And baseball goes down to Edward down here which is not exactly ideal and so options discussed and timing and so forth about
what could possibly be done to get those back here on campus. So there's things there to look into and and discuss, but it is certainly a concern and something we would like to do to get that all back here so we don't have to bust kids to practice. So those are the highlights. Any more I missed? >> No, I don't think so. >> All right. >> Thank you. uh the legislative the on >> um so as far as stuff going on uh the voting booth last Tuesday the vast majority of school leies went down 70% over 70% of the ones on the ballot went down so a lot of schools including Pickington be having to make some tough choices um over the next few months um not a a lot going on um both senate
and house really nothing to speak of there's a lot of stuff sitting in committee but nothing that has really bubbled up to official vote yet uh obviously act and promise are now the official gubernatorial candidates so be awaiting their platform as it relates to education they talk about ed choice and variations of ed choice so on and so forth but there's no formal platform so I assume that months Thank you. The building principles report, guess the last one for the year. Yes. Um honestly, it has been a whirlwind the last um couple weeks if we're being honest. Um lots of exciting things just celebrating um the hard work of our students and work hard, play hard. We've had everything from Super Games to Grandparents Day to Community Day. Um we got a shout out on
Channel 6 News. We had a meteorologist come in, so they gave Amanda Clear Creek a shout out um as well. So, just lots of fun activities. We're going to have um preschool celebration tomorrow and we also have our second grade clap out. Um couple really awesome things. They we had some ukuleles over at lunch today. The kids were super excited about that. They told me all about it when I got back over there. And um watching the high schoolers walk through um our halls, I don't know if it's more exciting for the students or the staff. Um especially when you have some uh some of the the kiddos or some of our staff members, it's pretty exciting. But for our students to see that, that's their goal. That's that's the first step is getting them
comfortable and feeling good about what they bring to the table. and one day she'll be walking down that hall um ready to graduate to the next step. So, it's really awesome to see that piece. So, that's kind of where we're at right now at the the primary and the elementary is right there at the same time. Also, let's highlight the skating party uh dancing skating machines as well for the attendance um the attendance piece and I saw some of the different kids. They had a blast today at super games as well. Um it looks like maybe some folks went with home with some more wounds. Um some rug burns and things from slides, but you're not getting bump scrapes and bruising. You're not living life is what I always tell the kids. So on to
the middle school high school. >> Well, they're middle schoolers. uh really got a good taste of what our lunch studio looks like today, especially on the last week of school um as the rain brought um the little ones inside. So, it was quite an an overstimulating experience. We'll just leave it at that. But um at the middle school, just some accomplishments um for the year and toward the end of the year here, we had um Battle of the Books students. So, we had four sixth grade students compete in Battle of the Books. um Lucas Long, Camden Hollig, CC Brovich, and Dylan Reetta, all sixth grade students. Um this was on Monday, May 11th. They out of 13 teams, they placed second at Capitol University. So that's quite an accomplishment. And this group of kids committed
themselves to reading and read 14 books this school year and prepared for that competition. Um we had five eighth grade students who um is having they will have their work published in the Ink and Stone 206 literacy journal. Um the students are going to be recognized I believe in early June um at Wagno's library or yeah Wagno's over in Lopoulos. So, um that's quite exciting for the kids to um increase their um ability to write and then uh have their work published and and be awarded for that. Um career day, we had a really great career day. A lot of um community volunteers and excited kids. Um we had 20 presentations that students could choose from. Um they went to three sessions in the morning and then the afternoon. Um, we had different things with
movies for six career related movies for sixth and seventh graders and then our real money real world simulation um for eighth graders. So, I know there's going to be a snippet in our upcoming newsletter, a really neat video that um made me chuckle today when you see the end and what students learned in the simulation. Um, it it it made me laugh a little bit, but this we had a really busy year in the middle school. Um, Miss Carlo and I just completed the master schedule. We've sent out scheduling forms. So, over the next few weeks, we're going to be rescheduling all of our kids and preparing for the 2026 27 school year. >> You survived. We made it. Um, we're wrapping things up. Um, we'll just kind of start backwards. Tomorrow we are, well,
Friday we're doing graduation. We'll be inside. the football field is a little bit moist and that probably won't lend well to shoes and chairs. So, we'll be inside in gin one. Um then tomorrow is our career center completion ceremonies at um Fortress Oetss that we'll be attending to to send off our prisoner students. Um 9:00 and 11 o'clock I believe will be up there. And um today we spent a good portion today with se multiple juniors. We went to the state house and the Ohio Supreme Court to watch oral arguments over an interesting case. And from there it just slides all the way back. We've done all the end of the year stuff. exams were in. Um we did honors night last week with um trying to remember the number now that was likeund over
$150,000 in scholarships were given away. Um, and I think the community should be very proud of the alumni scholarship program that is here in this district because um, pretty much any student who applies and meets the criteria walks away with with a good chunk of money for their next steps in life. So, this is something that's not typical in the places I've been where you gather people around the table and they look at the the kids, they know the kids, they talk about them and they pick the kids the best for the scholarship and it goes around the table and that's it. It's process that you know one question was asked like is there a more efficient way to do this? There might be but then you lose that part of the discussion about kids
and that's where it all comes back. So that's something to be very proud of in this room specifically. We're wrapping it up. I think we're pretty we're looking forward to a little bit of time in the summer to get ready for next year. Same place said we're have all our student scheduling requests in and we'll be doing that over the course of the next week or week and a half to get those done. So, and we'll have those ready for our back to school bash in that first week of August. >> I know. I was sitting at a softball game earlier this week with the little girl and she was trying to get scheduled because that when that window opens 7 o'clock. >> And last night when I sent out the sixth grade form, it
sat in the queue and I was just sitting there like, "Oh my gosh, I was panicking and I know probably sixth grade or fifth grade parents were panicking, but guess I was just waiting for it to process. It was a little slow." >> It was interesting. um onto the superintendent report. >> So along those same lines, the one thing that I would like to um commend as our support staff um first we have fantastic uh administrative assistance district. Um whenever you have students going in and out, parents in and out trying to manage all of that, still keep procedures in place. Um our frontline administrative systems are fantastic. They did a great job. Um, I was able to walk around. I would like to see for for repair professionals how many steps they got in
today during the field indoor field day because they were moving and shaking today. That's for sure. Um, so again, shout out to them. um our social staff, you know, on the ready to clean up and um you know, I saw the last thing as I saw emails go through regarding our nutrition team and and Kim Deerfield and her team being very flexible, being okay, this is how we're going to get hot dogs out and just different plans made and being extremely flexible to what is best for our kids. So just our support staff um they they really um pull things together and make sure everything. So just shout out. We'll move on to consent agenda number one. um to accept the minutes from the previous meeting and to accept donations for Muddy Boots field trip
and for the science and math enrichment program. That one came from Mariss Gustler and Hall. >> Oh, was that the house of fun? Okay. And Kimberly Cooper uh provided the money groups field trip donations. So, do I have a motion to accept the consent agend? >> Yes. >> Mr. H. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Song. >> Yes. Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mr. Yes. Number four is treasurer recommendations. the financial status reports on page 14 actually um April general fund revenues are about $2 million $2.9 million sorry um we have the state foundation we did receive a real estate settlement which I'll go over that a little bit um an income tax deposit and then we did get um we finished an audit for Medicaid, which means we got some money from fiscal year 24 um
which is how that works after they do the audit. Um and then of course investment companies our revenues up um approximately 243,000 from last April. Um and this is that's only the exact amount that income tax increase. Our income earnings interest earnings were $7,333. Um our expenditures were about 2.45 million um checks written for April or 2.8 million. Um again checks when we give you checks registers from all funds and not just not just the general fund. Um our expenses are almost exactly the same as last year at this time. Um I wanted to point out that under the um real estate um I believe on your five-year board report it is a negative number and that's due to it being a settlement. So as we receive advances and then we get the settlement if
the file sheet it tells me where all the money is supposed to go on that in those accounts and usually that's a negative number. If we get negative tax dollars, it's because it was already put in another or put in there that need to be taken out and put in the public utility and personal property fund. So negative amount really. So overall our revenue exceeded our expenses by 445,000. Um salaries and benefits are our largest expenditure. And then our current general fund balance is 13,832,000. Our incumbrances um out of throughout the year they're going down as we get closer to fiscal year end. They're a million26 and then our available cash balance is 12 million bought. Um the capital projects funds has 7.7 million in it with encumbrances of 350,000 and that leaves us an
uncumber balance in that fund of 7.41. our carryover balance um as indicated this will be so this will be the last month that we'll be netting positive for a while because we've received all of our taxes both um income and property. So our actual um percentage um for cash balance is 49% which is well right now well over the established amount for policy but that will be coming down. So next month we'll see that now coming down until we get the next deposits. So to keep an eye on cash is always a good thing. Um, are there any questions feeling that it wasn't a tremendously exciting month? Um, everything is pretty normal. >> Thanks for answering all the questions I had earlier. >> Oh, you're very welcome. Um, we did have um one CD mature
at Kingston. Um due to rates, I did move those funds into red tree um because we can get several points higher on interest. Um the Federal Reserve because our our um investments, our earnings will follow FedE rates. Um we do have a new Federal Reserve chair and there's some uncertainty with that. Prior to that, Chair Powell did not think he was going to be moving, right? So, I don't anticipate moving. Um there the experts are still saying that, but with the new chair, it's going to be different. So, um but we'll stay for us. So, I mean, our interest earnings are doing well and that's important for us because that money is is needed. So, >> I have a question. Yes. And I know it's in here and I just am not finding it tonight.
How much do we still owe um from the building? What's the final subjective date of the payoff for that on the the cost or um not in there? Okay. my um it usually is usually somewhere. Yeah, that's not some usually I usually don't put that in there, but to you for you a schedule so you can see how that's paid on. So those were um both those issues issuances were um 30 years. Um those our first payments were June of 24. Um and if you remember one was December and one was January. So they'll they'll finish at the same time even though there were two. Um, I don't I do not have on my debt schedule. I don't have I have check with the bank and get the pay off. >> I was thinking they
were 30. They're 20 years. They're 30 year. >> Yes. Yes. And the anticipation is it seven years. Um because with any issuance just lease payment, anything else they have at certain periods of general really touch it without penalty. Yes. So our for this is seven years. So, seven years we um hopefully we'll be in a financial position to pay I I believe we will be to pay some of that down and then restructure it. Um cops the way they're a little different in bonds in that each year when we make payments we pay off those bonds which are someone else's asset if it makes sense. So each of them have a different interest rate. So then we look at the average. Um, one of the issuances was like four and a half% and one I
think was closer to five. They both weren't terrible, but I think that in this climate we can do better. So when we get to that 10 year mark, um, we'll pay some down and refinance them in a way to save save money on interest. >> You're welcome. >> And you mentioned that we pay pay them in June. So we would expect to see that payment when we meet for July. >> So the cops because they're a little different. There is a June payment date that we actually at the beginning um of May. Okay. >> Because of the way the bank has to send them out as payments. Um they need 30 days to do that. Um the lease purchase um that we did several years ago that's at 1.67. Um it's incredibly low. That is
I'll pay that actually next week because it is due June 1st. So that amount I believe 13 is only like 13,000. The June payment is an interest only payment and then we pay interest and principal in December. So we get paid twice a year. Okay. Thank you. You're welcome. Um do I have a motion to approve the financial reports? Dr. Buckley moves and Kyle seconds. I think we had the discussion. So, let's roll call, please. >> Dr. Buckley. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sharp. >> Yes. >> Mr. Haron. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Song. >> Yes. Mrs. Young. >> Yes. >> The next item is to approve the SIC insurance rates for 2627. Do I have a motion? Dr. Buck discussion please. So this is our health um vision and dental um again the rates um because
of our consortium and the health of our members has pretty stayed pretty constant. Um we are we have three plans. We have a still have a HSA and then we have a regular P we have a new PO and an old PO. Um we did split the percentage increase for the old and the new PO um because we have a lot less people on the old PO which is a much more robust plan. Um the new plan is pretty solid. It's not a bad plan at all. Um but the old plan is is much more expensive than the employ. Um but other than that they're little higher than what we've had in the past, but our our balances are diminishing. Um so it was strongly recommended we do a little bit bigger of an increase.
Um we've usually been around two or 3% consistently year over year. I think Dr. Even at 5% that's pretty cheap. This is all due >> and this is an annual review. >> Yes. So we do insurance um goes from July 1st through June 30th and the annual rates. >> Roll call, please. Dr. Beckley. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sh. >> Yes. >> Mr. Har. >> Yes. >> Mrs. S. Yes. Mrs. Young. >> Yes. Number five is consent agenda number two. It's for personnel. Um I won't read all the names but there is a list of the to accept resignations and retirements to approve the certified substitutes the approve classified substitutes approve classified contracts 26 27 certified contracts for 2627 there's a whole bunch of contracts. Um, welcome to spring approved classified contracts two-year 2728 classified contracts
for educational aids, educational aids for nurse. Approve education experience update for 2627. Approve supplemental employment for 2526. Supplemental employment for lots of more people. Um, they're all listed. I'm sure that our board has read through all these. Um, approve the supplemental. Am I missing? Approve summer school teachers. Approved volunteers for 2526 um for both classroom and athletics. Did I lose a page? >> Did I get them all? >> Okay. >> Do I have a motion? Mr. Haron moves. Do I have a second? >> And Robin seconds. Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Song. >> Yes. Dr. Beckley. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Johnson. >> Yes. Number six is superintendent recommendations to appe approve the supplemental contracts for 2627. Um do I have a motion? Oh, this is a separate.
Okay. This is for Mr. Scott Sharp. Yeah. Yeah. We pull that one out. Dr. Buckley moved >> and Robert seconds. >> Roll call, please. Dr. Buckley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Yes, >> Mr. Aaron. >> Yes, >> Mr. Shir. >> And Mrs. Young. >> Yes. >> Number seven is old business. The policy updates. This is a second read for um the first one is a procurement administration of overdose reversal drugs. Um the second one is artificial intelligence and the third is for early entrance for or mandator mandatory kindergarten. Do I have a motion? Robin moves. Mr. Heron seconds discussion roll call please. >> Mrs. S. >> Yes. Mr. Heron. >> Yes. >> Dr. Buckley. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sher. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Yeah. Yes. Um number eight, um is to move into executive session. Um
this will see to approve a motion to enter into executive session to review negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees concerning their compensation or other terms and conditions of their employment. Do I have a motion? Dr. Buckley moves. One second. >> One second. Robin seconds. Roll call, please. >> Dr. Buckley. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Song. >> Yes. Mr. Haron. >> Yes. >> Mr. Sharp. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Young. >> Yes. And we will move to Dr. Edward's office and be back when we are finished. continue. >> Yeah. >> Just a reminder. I don't know if you can pause that. >> Session one, session two then. >> Yeah, if you need to, we can restart the second session. That's my best advice for your life.
