001We don't get the music. [laughter] Good afternoon and welcome to the February 2nd meeting of the Akran public schools rules committee. This is a new committee. The rules committee will manage the Akran uh school board's uh agenda by determining the format, preparation and dissemination of the board's agenda, assign the resolutions and or legislation to be placed on the agenda for a vote and when resolutions legislation can be considered. The committee will meet the first and third Monday of each month. I am president Barbara Sykes, president of the board as well as chair of the committee. I am joined by co-chairs vice president Renee Dr. Renee Molinar and committee member Kelly. Also we have president our superintendent will also serve as our and we are honored she will serve as our administrative representative. Thank you and
002welcome superintendent. Uh we I would also like to acknowledge the presence of our assistant superintendent Dr. Lash, our legal advisor, as well as uh two additional members of the board, member Harrison and member Montgomery. Welcome. So, we're going to get started. We have a pretty uh pretty uh uh long agenda today in that there are significant items that we want to make sure that we discuss. Uh so let me just uh [clears throat] start by saying that uh uh the the first item I just want to generally make a statement that what we want to try and do is to make sure that we have as much uniformity as possible from committees to committees meaning that we want to make sure that uh when the public look at our committees whether it's the finance committee
003or the policy committee or the rules committees that the format is the same with the hope that it will help the administration uh in entering information as well as the public and and reading it and understanding what we're what we're doing. So, we'll just work on making sure that the format is as as similar as possible as we go through this process because why? Because we're just one big happy district. [snorts] That's the way we want to to to present ourselves. The second item u so so unless member Molinar or member Kelly want to make add to that. Okay. The second item on the agenda is membership and association. So I asked uh the superintendent if she would just kind of give us a update on us memberships that we have because uh as we
004look at uh making sure that our members are able to actively participate in various uh uh meetings and conferences. uh I want to make sure the rules that we have my assumption is that we participate in those associations that we pay membership and if there is an association that we are not paying membership but yet want to participate then we need to bring that to the committee and determine whether or not we should pay membership in order to participate and I don't know superintendent if you want to add something to that. Thank you for the opportunity, President Sykes. I did include a document for the board to refer to. It's called memberships and associations. In addition, it does go into detail about one two committees in particular. The National School Boards Association is one that
005we used to pay dues to and then in 2022 there was a new association that was developed and it's called um Consortium of State School Boards Association COSBA and that is currently who we are paying dues to. So Ohio state uh school boards association rather left the national association of school boards to and join this organization and so that is why we pay our dues there. >> Okay. >> Now that does not limit you from participating in activities. It's just this is the one that we pay dues to. >> Uh thank you superintendent. But I think that if uh uh as I know associations if we don't pay dues then we most likely uh will have to pay that dues before we actually participate in the association. >> It depends. Sometimes there will actually be
006like a registration fee and it'll say for non dues members. So you would have to see if that's an opportunity being extended by the association. >> Okay. Okay. Member Kelly, I know that you had some questions about one particular one. Was it? >> Yes. In the nationals. >> Thank you, President Sykes. Um, my question Wayne and I were able to discuss the concern with the membership balance and the membership fee for NSBA. So Wayne's not here now, but if uh Superintendent Utley has further information that she can share at this moment to provide explanation as to to confirm if there is a balance and how much is that balance andor how much would it cost for us to attend conferences as non-members? So, I don't since since the treasurer is not here, let's just just
007just re wait and and find out. I believe that membership is about $12,000. So, that that's pretty much what we will have to pay in order to participate as a member. But, as the superintendent said, if there is a non-member registration, then we can can look at doing that. And so I think that's that's probably the direction we would want to go into non-member registration. But we will uh we'll we'll hold this and ask the treasurer and try to get further clarifications on this. All right [snorts] then. So let's head to uh 3.03 policies and resolutions. And [clears throat] as I read the agenda, the first item up is the treasurer uh resolution approving the financial forecast for February 2026. Um professional staff and administration for for 9.1 resolution approving the financial forecast for February
0082026. And so the treasurer is not here, but my assumption is that this is the regular resolution that the treasurer will give on our February 9th meeting. So the question is whether or not we will uh add this to our agenda and whether or not it will be a part of the consent agenda or our regular agenda. Is there a motion? >> So moved. >> So the so move is to add it to the consent agenda. Second. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I those opposed. All right. The next uh item is 10.1. And under 10.1 we have the professional staff and administration personnel recommendation and the retirement administrators. So let's see what do we have under that. So, I don't have my agenda. Did somebody take my Okay. Mr. Canfield was just
009standing. President Sykes if there was any questions that you would like addressed. >> Okay. So, uh the 10 point so that is to recommended that the board uh accept the resignation and retirement for the professional staff uh of uh Laura Ever and James Gay. >> Correct. >> That's right. Okay. So that's item 10.1. Is there any questions from the U committee members? Seeing no questions. So it's the recommendation to go on the regular agenda or the consent agenda. >> I make a motion to put to the consent agenda. >> Consent agenda. >> Second. All those in favor? >> I I those opposed. All right, we're going to move on to 10.2 employment of professional staff general fund. So that is 10.2 two and that would be for Natley McCullen, McKenzie Miller and Iris Pratt. >>
010And the administration is asking the committee to do what? >> Hiring those teachers, [laughter] >> hire those teachers, >> those vacancies [laughter] down. >> All righty. Uh any questions from the committee? There's no questions. So, uh we will move on. Is the recommendation the motion to uh add this to the regular agenda or the consent agenda? >> I make a motion to move to the consent agenda. >> Move to consent agenda. Thank you. Member Molinar. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you. Member Kelly. All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? Eyes have it. 10.3. Okay. 10.3. administration is asking >> I'm sorry to um to approve or to move the consent agenda is the personnel recommendation for Shelley Pixler. [snorts] >> Is there anything else you want us to know about
011this or is this just a general hire? >> Just a general hire. >> General hire. Any questions from the committee hear? No questions. Member Molinar. Thank you. Um, on the positions before this, uh, we were informed that those were replacement positions. Is this a new position? It is not listed in the table here >> now. These are the ones that have a change in degree status, right? >> I would have to get back to you on that answer. >> Um, >> I can't remember exactly what it is. Do you know, superintendent? I want to say these are the positions we are um advancing salary due to a change in their degrees. >> So you want to take it from there? >> I apologize. I thought you were asking a question about about 10.3. >> 10.3.
012>> Yes, that's 10.3. >> Shel 10.3 >> Shelley Pixler. >> It's just one person. >> Yes. >> We're changing her salary based on her degree. >> Well, let's ask member Molina. Were you asked about 10.3? >> I was asking about 10.3 and I thought it was a new higher. >> No. >> So, thank you. This is an important conversation. That is a very big difference. >> Yeah. >> All righty. So, what is the wish of the committee for 10.3 regular agenda or consent agenda? >> I'm sorry. Of course, member Montgomery, member Harrison, if you have a question, I know you will let me know. >> Thank you for giving me a moment to review. So yes, if this is just a change in salary due to degree uh acquisition, congratulations Sy Shelly for your uh
013degree. Um >> yes, >> I make a motion to move to consent agenda. >> All right. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Member Montgomery. >> I I just want to make sure I'm clear because in 10 in 10.5 >> We haven't gotten there yet. >> No, I know. That's where it says degree changes. This one says appointment or reinstatement. It doesn't say degree changes. >> I understand the confusion because that's what confused me initially thinking we were talking about 10.5. Um but I'd be happy to do more research and get back to you on that. >> Thank you. >> Okay. All right. So for 10 point Okay. All right. So what we will do is for 10.3 we'll just keep that on the regular agenda until we get the question answered. So maybe it
014was just a mistake and should be under you're thinking it should be under um degrees. >> It appears that way. >> It it looks like it may just be an error. >> We'll double check on that and bring it back under the item you told us to. >> Okay. All right. So now uh so now we're going to go back. So there had been a second. So, I think member Kelly would So, we will just uh uh we'll just take time on that. >> We can just take time on that uh 10.3 until you let us know if that is a degree. >> President S, would you like me to withdraw this because all of these items we're requesting to go on the consent agenda? So, at this time, I could withdraw it. Okay. >>
015Until when? When would you want to bring it back? >> We'll find out tomorrow. And if it's okay once we tell you what it is, if you want us to bring it back under new business or just insert it back with the consent, if there's no problem once I tell you what it's for. >> Sounds good. >> Okay. >> If there's no objection, member Molinar, since you have the question. >> Yes. if we could bring it back under new business so that way it's clear. I'm thinking of the community members also. Um >> well it would not be new business it just be regular agenda. >> Be regular agenda. Yes. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> So that's 10.3. >> Yes. >> Is that correct? Okay. So everyone's clear. We're talking 10.3. That's
016an appointment reinstatement of professional staff under general fund. Right now it will be under the regular agenda. Uh unless otherwise unless there's some additional information that would move it to the consent agenda. Okay, that's where we are. All right. So 10.4 Four, transfer and reclassification >> substitute teacher who gained the proper lensure to move into a teacher position. >> Okay. So, you're asking us to um to >> move to consent >> to keep to have this under the consent agenda. You requesting this as a consent agenda item. Okay. Any question? Member Molina, member Kelly, member Montgomery, member Harrison. Okay, so the motion is to move this to the consent agenda. Is there a motion? Transfer reclassification. >> I'll make a motion to move this to cons uh item 10.4 to consent agenda. >> Okay. Is
017there a second? >> Second. >> Okay. Thank you, Member Harris, member Kelly. So, uh, the vote is let's have a vote. >> All those in favor? I >> I. >> Those opposed. Okay. So 10.5 retirement resignation >> asking to move this to consent agenda uh for the retirement of James Kirk out of out of tech services. >> Okay. James Kurt, do you have any information about Mr. Kurt? You know how long he's been an employee with the district? >> I do not. >> No. Okay. but he is retiring effective uh June 30th, 2026 from the uh coordinator of of technology services. All right. So, is there a motion >> for item number 10.5? >> I make a motion to move item 10.5 to the consent agenda. >> Okay, moving on to 10.6, revision. These are
018staff members who have attained their degrees. Um, this is brought up a couple times a year, certain times of the year, spelled out in the union contract for those that attain their masters or their bachelor's plus. We're moving to move to consent agenda for all these. >> Thank you. And could you just kind of give us a general idea about what is happening here? So, as I understand it, these um these educators are currently employed by the district and during their time with us, they attain their master's degree generally or they attain certain classes um or cert certifications in the bachelor's plus program which moves them to a different point in the salary schedule and that's their >> so union contract. >> So, they're being rewarded for for receiving an additional degree. So, we want
019to as as member Mullen said, we want to congratulate all of them for for continuing their education >> because we we believe in that and we support that. >> So, is there a motion? >> I make a motion to move all 35 names um and congratulate all 35 people in 10 six to the consent agenda. >> Yes. Is there a second? >> Second. Thank you. All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed. >> All righty. We're going to move along to miscellaneous professional personnel recommendations. Transfer reclassification transportation general fund. >> It's a transfer reclassification of Anthony Santinetti >> from technology support specialist to transportation specialist. And this this is a replacement. >> That's correct. >> Meaning that this position already was established and so this individual is just transferring from one location, one position
020within the district to another position. >> Okay. Any questions from the committee? Member Mullenar. >> Thank you, President Sykes. Um so as this person um is replacing a transportation specialist um and leaving as technology support specialist, does administration anticipate we will need to replace now for a technology support specialist? >> No. Thank you. >> Okay. Member Kelly, any questions? All right. Is there a motion? I make a motion to move item 111 to consent agenda. Okay. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? I. Those opposed. Thank you. Supplemental contracts. All right. Limited supplemental contract for 2025 2026. So >> these are the supplemental contracts we're requesting move to consent agenda. >> So you want to give us a little bit more information on this? >> They're generally like >> Could
021you speak up? Could you >> I'm sorry. >> Okay. Could you speak? Okay. >> These are generally as you can see by the description, you know, coaches, student teacher, mentors, um cheerleading supervisors. >> Okay. And and I see that these are at various schools uh where we have student teacher monitor, softball coach, [snorts] teacher, student monitor, assistant cheerleader, supervisor, varsity wrestling coach, and freshman wrestling coach. And these are various schools within this the district. >> That's correct. >> Okay. Any questions? Member Kelly, member Molina, is there a motion? I will make the motion um to move item 121 the one two three four five six uh supplemental contracts to consent agenda. >> Consent agenda. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed. All right. We're moving to
02213.1. That's substitute teachers personnel recommendation resignation. So we have re resignation of a substitute teacher or there appears to be resignation of four substitute teachers. >> That's correct. >> Anything you would like to add? >> No. [laughter] >> Thank you. >> Is there a motion or any questions? Member Molonar. Member Kelly. All right. What is the motion? What is the recommendation? I make a motion to move um the resignations in 111 to consent agenda. >> 131 131 page. >> Yeah. 131. All righty. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Okay. 13. Uh okay. All those in favor I I. >> Those opposed. All right. So 132. We are moving to employment substitute teachers. And this is uh 132. So, are these tutors? >> These are substitute teachers we're recommending for um to move to consent
023agenda for their employment. Nine positions. >> Okay. So, where am I getting >> I'm sorry. Substitute teachers and tutors >> and tutors. Okay. >> All right. And so that's one two three four five six seven eight nine. And I'm thinking that these nine substitute teachers substitute tutors will be in various schools throughout the district. >> That's correct. Okay. And that is for the 2526 year. And that is 14 one >> 132. Okay. Any questions? Okay. Member Kelly, >> would the personnel items, some of them have a job code and a fun code. We've come across a couple that aren't provided those job codes. Could we get a list and a breakdown of what each job code is? >> Sure. >> Thank you. As you can see in this example with the nine, the job codes
024for substitute teacher are listed in the first paragraph. And I know you're probably referencing other personnel items on here, but the substitute teacher job code is is represented there. So two, >> and what's that code? >> Substitute tutor job code is 040. >> Substitute teacher job code is 042. >> Okay. Member Molinar. >> Thank you, President Sykes. Um, I am excited to see nine there will be nine new faces in our district and uh want to welcome people pending board approval um to to join us and um our APS community. I believe I know the answer to this question but just in case um are we still hiring any additional substitutes or tutors? >> We are. Yes. [laughter] >> So, no one's [snorts] missed their chance, >> right? [laughter] >> All righty. Any additional questions?
025Member Kelly? >> Okay. How do we know which um new hire that's being brought in their start date? Cuz on this specific agenda item, it's not like the other ones. We're just provided with their name. >> There is a specific format to the agenda item that I've been every day becoming more and more understanding of. my my team has a specific template they use. Um I cannot speak to why certain things are are different, but this is the way that it's been agreed upon moving forward. >> Thank you. >> And with that, Mr. Director, why don't why don't you just stop and introduce yourself and tell us how long you've been in the system. Kind [laughter] of midway this point, but this would be a good time to do that, I think, >> since we
026didn't do it in the beginning. >> Yes. Um my name is Chase Canfield. I'm the executive director of human resources for Akran public schools. Very happy to be part of the district and part of this team. Um I've been here for about 90 days or so. Um so a lot of these systems I am definitely diving into. Um as you know, as you all know, there's been a lot of concentration in specific areas. Um so eventually in time I will be able to uh answer these more properly for you and and President Sykes, I appreciate the uh the subtle coaching. I will definitely take that into consideration for the next rules committee. [laughter] [gasps] >> We're all learning at APS. We're all We're all learning. >> We're all learning. We all learning. Matter of superintendent.
027>> In this case, it does um specify that uh they will begin the day after the board meeting, which is February 10th. And because these are substitutes, they're as you know, we call them and as we need them. They do not necessarily work daily. >> Member Harrison. >> Thank you. Uh Chair >> Sykes, >> the um just a quick question on the tutors because they are are here together. So are we using substitutes? These these same substitutes can be used either as a substitute teacher or as a tutor or >> we're referring to 13. >> Is this a dual? Are we approving a duel? They can be used as a substitute or a teacher. >> Yes, we're on 132. I would suspect well I don't I don't know the answer to that question so I
028happy to find that out for you. >> Okay. >> But for sure we're saying that some will be teachers, some will be tutors and you have that flexibility is what I'm hearing. >> Well that's that's what I want to clarify for member Harrison. >> Right. Okay. >> Yeah. It appears like um maybe we're missing a column that would indicate which one they were going to serve as. It says um persons listed as substitute teacher, persons listed as substitute tutor. So it seems like there may be a column missing to designate their position so we can also get clarification on that. Would you like us to withdraw this one? >> Member Harrison. >> Um thank you Madam Chair. Madam Chair, if we could just have this on the regular agenda um uh not the consent agenda
029and pending um then they can put the columns in there. We can have a look at it. >> So that's 132. >> Correct. >> So is there a motion from the committee members? >> I will make a motion to put items 13 to nine names two columns on the regular agenda. >> Okay. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Okay. All those in favor? >> I. Those opposed. Okay. And I would just say to the community, as I said, this is the first committee meeting for rules. So, uh, as U director Canfield said, we're all going through this with through this process together. Um, and so we are figuring out what will work most in providing as much information as we can for board members as well as the community. So we're going to add
030132 to the regular agenda. All right, we're on 14.1 and that resignations tutors. So asking to move to consent agenda the resignation of Janet Mitchell as a tutor. >> Okay. Any questions? All right. Is there a motion? >> I make a motion to move item 141 to the consent agenda. >> All righty. All righty. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. Those opposed. Eyes have it. So we're going to move to 16.1 under par professionals personnel recommendations. 16.1 is our retirement resignation. >> Yes, it's the under the uh the pair of professionals the this is the resignation of Summer Staylor as a subprofessional at Lichfield. >> She's resigning. >> All right. 6.1. Is there a um any questions? There a motion. >> I make a motion to move item
031161 to the consent agenda. >> Okay. Consent agenda. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. Those opposed. All right. We move to 16.2. Employment community resource specialist Akran after school program. >> This is the request to move to consent agenda. the employment of Ben Archaria as a community resource specialist in the after Akran after school program which is federally funded by the 21st uh CLC grant. >> Okay. And so uh is there a any questions? >> Member Mullenar. >> Thank you President Sykes. Um approximately how many um people do we have in this position or how many open positions do we have for this and is this a replacement position? >> My understanding is at Akran after school program is February to April. Um so it's limited duration and
032I think we attempt to get as many people to help out with the afteran after school program as we can. And so this individual is not assigned to any particular school. I don't see I don't see that information either. >> Right. Okay. So what is the wish of the committee? So that would be 16.2 to community resource specialist after school program uh 21st CLC grant but there is no particular school that this person is assigned to. >> Member Molinar. >> Thank you President Sykes. Um Director Canfield you mentioned that we try to get as many people um as possible. Does that mean that this is also um another open position that people are applying for >> for superintendent? Yes. Yes. >> For the Akran school um for the um Akran after school that's situated um
033within all of our schools. Some are a full program and some are not. Uh it does take a lot of staffing and I heard the question earlier about like how many people per school. We could certainly let you know. It depends on how many students sign up and so we could certainly give you an update especially through the instructional policy committee just to let you know uh where we stand for our second semester course because this is for second semester. >> Me. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. Yes, I think this would be a great um instructional policy topic and I would move that we um move this item 162 make a motion to the regular agenda so we can have a little bit more information um on voting day. >> Uh member Kelly any
034question? I do ask um thank you President Sites. I do ask that when this is brought back up in the regular agenda that we're provided a little more information regarding this specific position. I would like to also see information on the 21st CLC grant to kind of get a clarity of what that language looks like for this grant. Um, and also if we can back to the columns, if we can have a little more added to this, that would help. >> Duly noted. >> Okay. >> Thank you. So, the motion is member Molina. >> Um, the motion is to move item 162 to the regular agenda with additional information. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I those opposed. Okay. Eyes have it. 16.3 employment pair professional and that is
035an individual position there and director Canfield >> replacement position for Bryce short to assume that position. This is funded under part B idea um not general fund. >> Okay. Is there a question? Member Mullan. Member Mullan. >> Thank you, President Sykes. And once again, pair pros. Are there still open positions for pairs? >> There are. We're in definite need of of more PAR pros. >> Okay. Member Kelly. >> Thank you, President Sykes. How how are we deciding the the hourly rate based off these positions >> generally set forth in in salary tables and wage rate tables that are established by through the state. >> What will change that is someone's perhaps experience years of experience may impact that along the step the uh the particular steps of the of the pay line. Can you confirm
036if the job code is posted beneath the position title? >> It is. >> Can you tell me what JC stands for? >> Job code. >> Thank you. Any additional questions? What is the uh wishes of the committee? It's 16.3. I make a motion to move item 163 to the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I I those opposed. Thank you. 16.4 employment recreation enrichment specialist Akran after school. >> Similar to the request that we made earlier to move to consent agenda. Mhm. >> Um this recreational enrichment specialist for the Akran after school program again 21st century CL or 21st CLC grant federally funded um of the second semester duration February to April. >> Okay. Are there any questions? What is the wish of the committee 16.4?
037Oh member Kelly. So, we just seen this um the same position I believe agenda item 16.2. >> Yes. Mhm. >> Can I propose that? >> Well, 16.2 is community resource specialist and 16.4 is recreation enrichment specialist. Not to confuse the two. [laughter] >> I was just saying. >> Thank you. President [laughter] Sykes. >> Could Could you tell us the Could you tell us the the the difference between enrichment specialist and resource specialist? >> Remember Kelly? I so wish I could. [laughter] >> Somehow I knew that was coming. Thank you, President Sykes. [laughter] >> I'd be happy to get you those two job descriptions, though this >> Yes. >> Thank you. >> We're going to get serious. [laughter] >> Yes. Would you please provide member Kelly with those two job descriptions at this? Member Kelly, would
038you share that with us? So, [laughter] >> so we will know. >> Yes. President. >> Oh my goodness. Alrighty. So what what what is the wish of the committee for 16.4 the employment recreational enrichment specialist after school program? >> I make a motion to move 164 to the regular agenda with item 162 for to provide the opportunity to have additional information. >> Okay. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All right. [laughter] All those in favor? >> I >> those opposed eyes have it. 16.5 employment substitute paraprofessional. >> We're asking to move to the consent agenda. The employment of these subpar pros um job code 408. >> Okay. 16.5 and that's three individuals. >> That's correct. >> That we're talking here. Any questions from the committee members? Any questions from any committee? Many members of
039the board. Okay. What is the worship? What is the worship of the committee? >> I make a motion to move item 165 to the consent agenda. >> Okay. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? Eyes have it. 16.7 reclassification paraprofessional support staff. That is one individual. >> I think we need 166. >> 166. Okay. 166. Extended time after [clears throat] Oh, extended time after a school pair professional. >> Same situation 16.2 and 16.4. >> Okay. >> Um this is approval or movement of extended time after school for that to support that federally funded program. >> Okay. Any questions from the committee? >> What's what's the wish of the committee? 16.6. >> I would like to make a motion to move 1662 the regular agenda for the
040opportunity to provide additional information um in the roles. Thank you. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? Okay. The eyes have it. 16.7 reclassification of paraprofessional support staff. And there's one individual there. And what >> that's that subpar pro has has attained the position of paraprofessional. So it's a replacement position. So we're happy to have them on board full-time. >> Yes. Are there any questions? >> What is the wish of the committee for 16.7? >> I make a motion to move item 167 to the consent agenda. >> Okay. Consent agenda. Is there a second? >> Second. All those in favor >> I >> eyes have it. So now we are moving to uh 18.1 that's retirement resignation transportation >> asking the committee to move to
041consent agenda the um the resignation of Christina Marco as a bus driver. >> Yes. >> Are there any questions? What is the recommendation of the committee? >> I make a motion to move item 181 to the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. [snorts] >> Those opposed hearing no opposed. All right. We're going to move to 19.1 employment school climate team. >> So, we're asking to move to consent agenda. The employment of two school climate team members um listed below. Both replacement positions. Uh thank you director. Do you want to tell us a little bit what does the school climate team do? >> My understanding is the school climate team members help support uh the schools in terms of um kind of maintaining security, helping out
042when kids need it. >> Superintendent, would you like to help out director? >> Yes. [clears throat] >> Canfield. They're only located at the elementary level. Okay. >> And they also act as um support for behavior needs. Uh if you recall, we have a new law that says there are certain grade levels K through three that we cannot suspend out of school unless for extending circumstances. So our school climate team members also allow support with those students so that they're able to stay within a school climate without being in a classroom environment. Anything you would like to add, Dr. Lash? Dr. Lash. >> Yes. And thank you. And I did not mean to chuckle at executive director Canfield, but he was doing a great job, but we were ready to uh throw the the lifeline [laughter]
043in there. Thank you, Superintendent Outly. The only other thing I would add is that um these are 24-hour employees and so it's not um uncommon that um that we would have replacements throughout the year because um because of that it's not a full-time uh position. >> Oh, that is interesting. I I had no idea. Any any questions? >> Did you have a question? Member Harris. >> Thank you, Member Sykes. Chair Sykes. Mhm. >> Um just com um going back to what you said, it's not a full-time position. Has there any been any conversation if if they're dealing with that particular um population, you know, our students that need extra attention um just for the consistency of that? >> I'm sorry, member Harrison. the question if if there's been consideration for that part-time position moving to
044a full-time position. >> Yes, >> there are several um positions that pie in the sky uh that we would love to move to full-time, but um the budget is always a consideration. >> Superintendent. Yeah. >> Um member Harrison, it's similar to tutors as well. So, our tutors are not full-time employees. They are part-time. And so, they work with the building staff to outline those hours that they're going to be there. For the most part, tutors do not work on Fridays. That frees them up to be able to sub on, you know, that Friday. And these persons, uh, these positions usually, if I'm not mistaken, work 9 to two. So, they're there at the beginning of the day and for the most part through the end of the day. school gets out at 2:30 at elementary.
045>> Thank you. Any additional questions, comments? And they are only in elementary, >> correct? We have safety team members at the secondary level. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. What's the wishes of the committee? Is there a motion? >> Um, I will make a motion to move item 191 to the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? Second. >> All those in favor? >> I >> eyes have it. 19.2 hourly rate revision. So this is per contract. >> Yeah. Effective January 1st, 2026. >> Per contract. Is there
046any questions? Okay. Motion. >> I make a mo motion to move item 192 to the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? [snorts] >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? 048So >> sorry. [laughter] So I I too would like to say that this is this is really wonderful to be able to accept donations and recognize the donations that we receive every year and particularly the one from the parents because it means so much when parents go out and raise money and give to to uh various programs within the the school district where their children are are are uh are are going. And so to see a parent uh group donate $500 to the to the Millis South Drama uh association and performer in art school is is really great. But also we're very pleased to have the $5,000 from the Kowanas Club as well as the volleyball project. Thank you very much Akran community. Thank you for bringing this. Uh so we've heard a motion and
049a second. All those in favor? I >> those opposed eyes have it. 21.2 resolution is uh the transfer. >> Yes, I >> this is a resolution. >> I do bring a resolution before you to consider for the consent agenda. >> This is the transfer of the Seal Salter Memorial Scholarship Fund. It currently houses $82,900 and5 dollars for scholarships in honor of Ernest Ray Stalter, Mr. Seal's brother-in-law who served as an Akran teacher and counselor and director for 40 years. And the memorial fund was created for the students of Akran public schools. And now it is uh being requested that the Akran Community Foundation has expressed a desire to accept the responsibility for maintaining these funds on behalf of the district and ensuring that the memories of Irwin and Ernest are still honored and there was
050an exhibit attached to this. Sally A. Are there any questions? Is there a motion? Is there a second? >> Second >> question. >> Thank you. [laughter] Um, more of a discussion than a question. This 2026 Akran City Series Track and Field Championship, I know this is a huge annual event for us. Um, but I don't think enough people know
052that this is a huge annual event for us. And so I'm making a request now to get something booked for student success committee so we can really celebrate our winners. So this is the graduation ceremony for which school? >> Uh the NISTM high school at Robinson High School. >> Is this a new location for the graduation? >> No, we've actually used this one particularly before. It may be new for this particular school, but that it doesn't mean we haven't used it for other schools. >> Okay. But this is for the steel.
