Amen. >> We are here to celebrate our youngest um students and all the smiles on your on the parents faces just makes me happy to be a part of this committee. So good every good good evening everyone and welcome to the November meeting for the student success celebration committee. We are thrilled to celebrate some of many accomplishments happening across Akran public schools. Tonight we will highlight and put some spot spotlight and creativity on our youngest learners, recognize academic excellence, and honor student leaders who exemplify service and dedication. It's one of our favorite part of this work, celebrating the futures of our students. >> Thank you, board member Hall. These celebrations remind us uh why we do what we do. We're lifting

up our scholars um at all levels and I see our early learning program here. So excited on the floor um and our teachers and our partners and the programs and we all come together and I'm glad the parents are here to help celebrate with us and um enjoy what is to come. It looks like something wonderful is on its way. So, um, let's begin with our first presentation. >> It is my pleasure to introduce Mrs. Jennifer Douglas, the supervisor of our early learning program. Mrs. Douglas will share more about her partnership with Art Sparks, the importance of early learning, and how this program helps our youngest scholars develop confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Thank you. Good evening, board members, and good evening, Shayla. It's nice to have you here. Good evening parents and families and APS

community members. My name is Jennifer Douglas. I'm the supervisor of our uh APS early learning program. We are proud to serve an average of 700 preschoolers every school year in our early learning program. We operate 28 classrooms across 15 different sites across our city and most of our students are able to access this support free of charge to them. uh based on the early childhood education grant or uh part B special education dollars. As you may already know, our scholars start their essential experience as young as preschool. And that's what we're going to share with you tonight. They engage in a program called Art Sparks, which is a 15-week program that fosters pre kindergarten readiness skills through music and dance. The experience culminates in a showcase at the end of their session. So, uh later

we'll be able to invite all of you to that, but you are of course welcome to that. And you'll see a mini preview of that tonight. So, every week the scholars engage in a classroom based lesson with their teachers and we're joined here by some of our art spark staff, Carara, we have Erica Piper, Britney Medlong, and Mr. Simon Hunt. We are joined tonight by our ELP teachers, Kelly Lutz from Helen Arnold and Emily Humphrey from Reach. And so without further ado, I'm going to let the scholars take the stage. >> All right, my friends, find your heads. Those brilliant brains. Audience, you can do it, too, if you want. Find your head. 008good counting. So fun. Move our head. >> That's what we're talking about after [music] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 [music] 8. >> All right. Then we talked about having bounced really really big. >> [music] >> 2. 1 2 3 4 5 6. All right. Done. Three fingers. [singing] All right. One head, two shoulders, three fingers. [cheering] >> Aria Taylor. [applause] >> Not here. Okay. Keegan Vang, [applause] >> Peyton Winston, and Nova Young. >> Great job. All right. Thank you so much. >> Thank you everyone. And I think I'm going to go off script here for a second while all of our um all of our performers are still here in the center. I heard a rumor that today is someone's birthday. And if all of our early learners could look at Do you know who our superintendent is? Look at our superintendent outlet and can our early learners help us one performance off script possibly of happy birthday. >> Superintendent office birthday >> and I

will let the pianist lead us. [laughter] Happy [singing] birthday to [music] you. Happy birthday to you. [music] Happy birthday dear. [singing] [laughter] [music] [applause] Thank you everyone. >> Thank you to our students. I know a lot of our early learners are going to want to move into the hallway where we have cookies and cupcakes and celebration. Thank you parents. Thank you [applause] while we do our transition. Oh my god. All right, y'all. Look at my picture. We wanted to see a good picture. >> Once again, thank you parents so very much. >> So good. All right. >> All right. Pull that one up for me. >> Can you pull that one up? All right. >> Okay. We'll go ahead and get study started for our second half. Stick it on my hand. There we go.

And I did forget to introduce ourselves u for the beginning of this this meeting. Um my name is Summer Hall. I am the chair of student success committee as well as Dr. Renee Moliner, co-chair. And we also have our student board member Shala Davis. right now. >> That was amazing. Let's give our preschool performers another big round of applause. [applause] >> Thank you to all of the parents, all of the students, and all of our Art Sparks community partners. I want to just give a little personal statement here. Both of my children went through the ArtSparks program here because they were part of the early learning program. Both of my sons went to Essex and they enjoyed Art Sparks so much that it is the first one that they want to sign up for when

we do our summer uh programs and um it it has been so great. And we have our early learning program showcase here and uh we have this every year and there are different times uh this will be shared out but they're all during the workday and so as a parent I always relied on somebody else taking the video of the ArtSparks performance and then texting it to me and so I'm so glad that so many parents were able to be here live and see the performance live And uh fortunately for us and unfortunately for the audience, the kids got to face us so it could be on camera, but now it's on camera. I know that we have really great footage we can share with aunties and grandparents and neighbors. And so thank you again

to everyone um with our early learning program and our art sparks program. Um and now uh moving on to our our uh from our youngest learners to our early college. Um, so our students from Akran Early College High School, we're going to recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement by earning perfect scores on their state assessments. And so we have Principal Tom O'Neal here. [clears throat] Good evening. Um, unfortunately, I'm going to recognize these two individuals, but they were not able to make it tonight. So, I'd like to recognize Tila Watson, uh, who earned a perfect score English language arts um, OST, uh, last spring, and also Elliot Curry, who uh, scored a perfect score in his American History um, OST last spring. We do have Emanuel Bby here tonight, and he's going to

come up. Uh, he earned a perfect score on his Alra 1 OST last spring. So, >> Manuel >> [applause] >> Yes. [applause and cheering] >> All right. >> Yes. Emmanuel, [applause] >> she's gonna >> she can represent with the family. >> Actually, manual. M >> what's your favorite uh what's your favorite subject? >> Math. >> Congratulations. [applause] Well done. >> Thank you. >> So, thank you and congratulations. And this is a proud moment for everyone, for the district, for the family. Such a proud moment. Algebra 1. Um, I don't know if I'd even pass, let alone get a perfect score. So, hats off to you. >> All right, we've seen creativity and academic achievement. Now, let's honor leadership and service. These next students represent strength, discipline, and commitment through their four-year participation in junior ROTC

programs. Please welcome Mrs. Carter, who will introduce our JOTC instructors as they recognize these exceptional student leaders. >> Excellent. Thank you, board member Davis, board member Molinar, and board member Hall. Um, good evening, board president Jackson, and Superintendent Outley. I want to first bring up um and I'm going to have them introduce themselves. Let's bring up Elllet. And so, principal um Sabetta, if you and your instructor could come up as they are coming up, I would just like to say that they did a wonderful job at the city of Akran's Veterans Day celebration. It was the first celebration with the city of Akran's employee resource groups and they did a wonderful job and thank you for your time and your commitment and always bringing your students out. >> Good evening. Um, and thank you for

having us today. I'm very excited to be able to celebrate our students. And I would also like to introduce first class um Grio. He is here with us tonight. But we have six students or excuse me, seven students at Elllet who participated um all four years. And we would we do have three that were able to be with us tonight. We have some that were working and not able to be with us. But thank you for recognizing our students. And would you like to say anything? >> I'm good. The first one we have is Alex Doerty. [applause] >> Keith Carlson [applause] and Ka Noen. [applause] And then Miss Sabeta, we wanted to hear their um if they could share with us their aspirations for after high school. >> Perfect. Yeah. >> Like their name and

what your aspirations are after high school. >> Uh hi, I'm Ka and I'm going active duty in the Army after high school. >> Awesome. Congratulations. [applause] >> I'm Keith Carlson. After high school, I plan on enlisting in the United States Army, going active duty, and hopefully being an infantryman. >> Okay. [applause] >> Hello. Um, I'm Alexander Dy. After high school, I plan to attend college and join the um army as active duty. [applause] like to say thank you um to our students and their service as um they get ready to graduate. So, thank you so much. They're amazing young leaders at Elllet. So, [applause] >> Thank you. I saw Principal Nolan. Is he still in here? >> And superintendent. Um, they did say happy birthday. Um, if you are interested, they do sing happy birthday

to um while they do push-ups. So, if you're interested, [laughter] >> yes. Yeah. The the birthday person is the one who does the push-ups. [laughter] >> No, >> I just had to ask. >> Thank you. [laughter] classroom. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Good evening. For those who may not know, today is the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps. So, my >> Yes, my uh my Marine cadets have been very busy this past week and and today, so they are unfortunately not with us. But I do want to make sure that we hear the names of Krishan Bearden, uh Ashish Limbu, and Aia Martin. They have been our four-year uh Marine Corps cadets. They've done a great job. Um, many of them, actually three of the three of them are two of the three are planning

to attend college. We do have one enlistment in the core for next year. Uh, but again, I have to say it like three more times because the major in charge of my unit would be very upset if I didn't say that it is the 250th birthday for the United States Marine Corps. So, they are very excited and humbled. They traveled today. I believe they're traveling tomorrow for Veterans Day to do color guards for various VFWs uh in the Akran area. So, we couldn't be more proud. Last week was the promotion ceremony. All of our cadetses were present. Check our Facebook if you need some pictures. It was a wonderful event. But thank you. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Congrat. I'm sorry. Two more schools. >> All right. So, the next school >> Oh, yeah. Yes.

Mr. um Nolan, Dr. Nolan, is it okay if he says something about their football team? >> Come on over, Mr. Nolan. Dr. Nolan, what's going on at East High School? >> You know, I'd get to advertise the whole time I was here. >> East High School. >> Hey, so um there's going to be a great Eastto on Tik Tok released tomorrow inviting all of our senior staff and actually all of the Akran area. You know, when we go to the playoffs and they announce every time we score, we are Akran. We're Akran East. So, it's going to be huge for our whole community to support us as we move on to round three and play CBCA this Friday. So, please uh find some Dragon Gear. I know somebody that can hook you up in my

marketing program if you need it. Uh, but if you'd make the short trip up to Wya Lake Road, we are playing CBCA this Friday, 7:00. Come cheer the dragons on to victory. >> Wonderful. [applause] And with that note, just to take us off task just a little bit, what do we do for our students to be able to travel to those games as offsite that may not have that transportation? When um Book Doll played the actual state championship, we worked with um our coordinator of athletics and we secured a bus for them to go. But it was the playoffs. We did wait for the playoffs, so I'm not sure how we would do the championships. I'm sorry. So, if we would like to do more, we would just have to check for the budget and

see how we can make it happen. >> Wonderful. Thank you for that. >> Next, we have um our JOTC program from BookTo CLC. Do we have a [applause] >> We have one cadet who is a four-year cadet. Uh he's one of the OGs for the postcoavid core. Um and uh I'm very glad that he's he's stuck it out with us. It's really hard to be a four-year cadet. The longer they're in, the more that's expected of them. And a lot of students just are not ready to meet a lot of those requirements for one reason or another. And in high school, you know, there's a lot of other things that they can be doing. Uh this is an elective. Uh so they choose this over something else. So uh the four years we we love

them because they really help kind of establish the culture of the core and keep things progressing forward. So we have John Blae. He's been with us for four years and I'll let him tell you what he's doing post uh high school. >> Uh after high school, I plan on going to Air Force active. Uh I don't know. I don't know what job I plan on doing, but I do plan on going to the Air Force. >> All right. Excellent. [applause] >> Congratulations. >> Wonderful. Good job. >> It's one more school. Our next school is Garfield CLC. Do we have a representative from Garfield CLC? >> Okay, we'll have President Jackson represent. She is a graduate of Garfield CLC. >> I was in the Navy JROTC when it was >> Okay. >> All right. So in

recognition of a commitment to the Army JRTC program with four years of dedication at the Garfield High School, we honor Mr. Abraham Abraim Tori and Zad Alza Zazi Alhazi I believe is and Alyssa Feathers as well as Shadarion Miller Lundy. Let's give them a round of applause. Congratulations [applause] to all of our students. Tomorrow is Veterans Day. Are there any veterans in the house, in the room? >> Please stand. [applause] Thank you for your leadership and all that you do to educate our students and let them know that being a part of the military is a good thing also. So, thank you. So, again, congratulations to all of our cadetses. Your dedication to leadership and service sets an incredible example for your peers and the community. I also want to thank the junior ROTC instructors,

principles, and families for nurturing nurturing the values of respect, courage, and teamwork in our scholars. Thank you so very much. [applause] And I just want to summarize a little bit here on what we've seen tonight as far as excellence and leadership. We had we started with our youngest learners and our arts program. We had leaders in academics with perfect scores and now we have leaders in leadership. That's kind of redundant but really the ROC program is um a shining star in our portfolio I think is AAN public schools. And I am now going to fumble some statistics and hope that somebody volunteers while I speak slower to help correct me because I believe I remember someone explaining to me at some point that at Akran public schools we are one of the few districts that

have ROC programs from all four areas. And there are other really great statistics about us as a district and our other programs. if anyone else would like to elaborate on that. Um because I I I don't have all of them memorized, but I do know it is something for us to be proud of. It's something that we've invested in and it's something that um our students really, we wouldn't be able to do it without you. Here's a great example of um we are here for you. So, >> [laughter] >> Yes, I believe you're correct. And and I I was told for the longest time, we're the only one in the state of Ohio that has all four branches, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines represented in their in their school district. And then then I

hear from other people, well, you're one of the only ones in the country that have or one of the few, as you said, in the country that would have all four branches represented in their public schools. So, we're very proud of that. you know, uh, you heard from a lot of four-year students today that look like they've got post enlistment plans or whatever their post plans are. Uh, but, you know, I think, uh, all of the leaders and instructors of those programs would say that they're just really there to help with whatever post-secondary plan that they want to go into and giving them those skills and assets while they're with us. Um, in that in that elective course, they do raise their hand to take advantage of it and do the dress uniforms and all

the drills and learn all the procedures and show up for our color guards and make us look really good. So, we're always really proud of them. So, thank you for mentioning that, Dr. >> Muller. >> And that's something to brag about. We don't brag enough about the good things that we do here. And if we're the only district in the state slash the country, [laughter] >> that's what I've been told. >> Well, we go around with it until we're corrected. Right. [laughter] >> So, I've asked them and they say, "Yeah, I think you are." So, I'm not investigator >> in the state. We'll take that, too. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Um, what a wonderful day, especially with our little ones. I don't know if we all paid attention to

the song, but it was about manners. Manners. And if we as parents take those same manners that these kids were learning at that little age and incorporate that in our home with a yes, please, no, thank you. Our kids will be set up for success. So, I I'm I'm just really like over the moon with our little ones singing and dancing. Thank you to every student, teacher, family member, and community partner who made tonight possible. Thank you, Angela Carter. I know you do a lot of work getting this all together. And your team and Eric and Miss Yavon and Miss Jasmine Shala's dad. Oh, hi. Please stand up, sir. This is Shala Davis's dad, right? Thank you for all that you do. Your daughter is amazing. You guys have done a wonderful job. The best

that you can, and she's going to go far. We can see it now. And her aspirations, the way you come in, you're you're poised, you're motivated, and you know who you are. >> So, if you keep that up, you will go far. Okay, nobody take that away from you. Okay, you're welcome. Don't get me up here preaching now. Okay, [laughter] so just as a reminder to remind you all um that the success in Akran public school is built on creativity, perseverance, and leadership. >> Your turn. >> Okay, thanks. So now I get to talk about our next student uh success celebration committee. And I actually did have some people since our last committee meeting ask how do we sign up? So, it makes me really excited to hear that families and students and parents and

community members want to see their students highlighted because we're a big district and we have a lot more uh success to show off. But um Miss Carter, if you could please um explain to us what the process would be for, uh teachers or community members to uh nominate students to be highlighted for success. >> Yes. So we have a Google form and that's been shared with our building leaders and so our building leaders will push that out via their school messenger, which is email for anyone that um wants to submit any names or groups of people to be recognized. And it doesn't always have to be school related. It could be something that um students are doing in the community. They're showing leadership. They may be doing some community service that we want to recognize

that they're doing. So, anything that um would result in us celebrating our scholars, that's what we want. We want to get more of that. We want to see more of our students um in the in the in the um spotlight and we want to toot their we want them to toot their own horns and we definitely want to celebrate them as well. So please um look for that information to come out in your school newsletters or then look for your um email make sure you check your email from your building principles because that link will be coming out. >> Thank you for that Mrs. Carter. Um before we close, um due to what's going on in the community, I do want to kind of put some information out here with people watching online as well

as um people in the um audience. Um just a few flyers that's going around social media and things like that about food places where families who are being affected by SNAP. Um, tomorrow, Freedom Block, um, they're doing free groceries, um, people feeding people at 8:48 West Exchange Street, um, at 5:30. So, if you need groceries, please stop by. Um, also, Swinson's, and we had Swinsons at our last board meeting, um, from November 5th through November 12th, um, one free kids meal per person, 18 years old and under. Um, and you just have to present your SNAP or EBT card to get a meal for your child. Um, let's see. As well as a Thanksgiving drive hosted by Javon Graves. Um, he is a child of Akran, but he went to St. V. Um, and he's

giving back. He plays overseas basketball and he's giving back to the community that raised him. um November 25th from 3 to 7:00. Um 1866 Brown Street, free Thanksgiving turkeys and other holiday proteins plus non-p perishable items for families in need. Um, New Hope has a um No, New Hope Baptist Church has a food pantry. Bring your own bags um and your ID um every fourth Saturday from noon to 2 and that's at New Hope Baptist Church,

0361706 South Hawkins. um New Exodus Christian Fellowship. I don't think they're going to do it tomorrow, but I know it's every Tuesday. They do a um where you can go in and like it's like a grocery store. You go in there and shop. And actually, that's my father's church, uh Pastor Greg Partridge. And New Exodus is on the corner of um Arlington and oh gosh, he's gonna kill me. I can't think. >> Google it. >> Reed. Arlington and Reed. Um, and they serve their they open up their doors at 5:30 on Tuesdays. I don't think it's this Tuesday, but every other Tuesday. Um, as well as Helen's Kitchen. Um, at Helen Arnold CLC, they're providing hygiene, cleaning supplies, food items. Um, and they're collecting items from November 16th through December 14th at New Hope Baptist

Church. So, if you want to give back and help out the community, you can. Um, and one last one, it's the Remedy Church, Feed the 5000. It's going to be on Saturday, November 22nd, noon to 300 p.m. at 985 George Boulevard. They're going to also have vendors, um, a food pantry and giveaways. So, thank you guys for taking the time to let me say that out loud because a lot of our children are going to be affected by this. And you know, none of our children or families or adults should go without a meal. Um, so thank you for that. This meeting is now adjourned unless we have any comments. President Jackson, I just was going to make this quick comment that maybe the information you read you can scan in so that if people

need to go back, they can see it on our site because that was some really great information so that it could be a resource to give to the superintendent. >> Wonderful. Thank you. Anything, Dr. Mulliner? >> Yes, Mr. >> I knew of another pantry on Manchester. It's at 1823 Manchester Road. It's called PACC and they serve a hot meal. Every Wednesday. So, every Wednesday they serve a hot meal. 1823 Manchester Road. >> Okay. Wonderful. Thank you so much. And if the community is watching and you know of a food pantry or you know of an organization that's giving away food, please send that in um to APS so that we can get this posted so that you can take advantage of it. Yes, superintendent. >> Madame Chair, I just wanted to comment that um some

of that information. Thank you for all of it. As uh President Jackson said, if you could share it with us, we did create um some of that on our website and also on our Facebook page and we also sent it home uh via email. So, we'll just add to what you just stated because they need to know about all the different avenues and resources that they have available to them. So, thank you for bringing that up. >> You are most welcome. So, without further ado, we are adjourned. Have a good evening and again, thank you to all of our veterans. Have a good night, everyone. [applause]
