Good evening everyone. We are coming to you live from the East Gymnasium on the campus of Brunswick High School for tonight's Greater Cleveland Conference matchup between the visiting Strongsville Mustangs and your Brunswick Blue Devils. Paul's on here along with John Justice and we'll bring you all the action from the Battle of Boston Road. This rivalry is always intense, no matter the sport or what the records are, but tonight has a bit more drama added. Strongsville's firstear head coach Ryan Kilbane was a longtime member of the Brunswick staff and would like nothing more, John, than to come in and knock off his friend Joe Mackey. >> Yeah, absolutely. You know, obviously you got some familiar faces on the other other bench tonight. Coach Kil Bane, who's uh you know, really a veteran of the high school

scene, but uh first year as a head coach of the Mustangs this year. Uh spent number of years on coach Mackey's staff and just did an outstanding job as a junior varsity coach and as one of the assistant varsity coaches. Um so thrilled to see him get the opportunity to take over at Strongsville. I know he's going to do a great job. And you know, it's not just coach Gil Bane. You got Jeff Ier. Coach Jeff Biker, who's a a legend over there, uh longtime assistant coach for Coach Lynch, spent a little time as the head girls coach, and then came over on Coach Mackey's staff as well. Uh so you got two guys who are very familiar with the program here. Um you said it, rivalry game on a Friday night in December. Well,

just really looking forward to this. Yeah, the Mustangs are off to a tough start. They're they're 1 and4 0 and2 in the GCC. The Blue Devils, on the other hand, are coming off an impressive road win versus Hoben, and they're at 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the GCC. And really, they're one of the top teams here in Northeast Ohio. >> Yeah, they really are. I mean, start with the Mustangs first. I I mean, for any team, a rivalry game's one you circle on the schedule. Throw the records out to start. Um, they're both going to come in and compete. Look at crowd that's already here tonight. This place is going to be completely filled in the next couple minutes. Um, and yeah, Strongsville's off to a little bit of a slower start than the Blue Devils,

but again, it's a rivalry game. They're going to be coached well. You know, their kids are going to come out and play hard. On the other hand, Brunswick, yeah, they're they're out to a phenomenal start, 4-0. Uh, really an impressive win on Tuesday night at Archbishop Hoben. Um, first time I had actually been to Hoben's facility and what what a unique gym that is. Um, and and again, a great game. Devils are down by four at half and they reel off a 30-9 uh stretch in the second half and just an impressive road win. Start the season 4-0. You know, they're ranked first in the Cleveland.com top 25 poll right now. So again, you got you got a big game tonight. You got to come out. You got to get another Greater Cleveland Conference or

Greater Cleveland Conference win. >> Yeah, the Devils uh had a huge performance by Trey Drexler. He had 30 points against Hoben and really, you know, he and Shawn Barnett um take turns kind of leading this team. If if one of them >> might not have their shot that night, the other one steps up and is usually lights out. >> Yeah, I tell you what, they both been so impressive this year. Um the thing that was really impressive about Trey on Tuesday night was, you know, you think of Trey Draxler and you think, he's going to pull up and shoot from anywhere on the court. He was phenomenal around the rim all night on Tuesday. Um he had some finishes at the hoop that were just spectacular. And you know, Shawn had a breakaway dunk in

in the second half that was just where we really thought that was the turning point in the second half. So yeah, they're both impressive. >> Yep. Both of them are already set where they're going to college and uh you know, we'll talk about that throughout the broadcast, but we're going to turn it over to the PA announcer for the anthem and introductions and we'll be back with you. High School Athletic Association and abide by the standards of conduct, competition, and regulations with member schools. In order to make tonight's contest as enjoyable as possible, please represent your school and community in a positive and respectful manner. That means follow the rules, speak and act responsibly, and show courtesy and respect for your fellow fans, the officials and coaches and administrators and authority figures, and of course

your team and opponents. Let's make tonight's contest great by remembering to respect the game, be proud, be loud, and be respectful. Thank you. Now, ladies and gentlemen, we ask that you please stand, remove your caps, and direct to the north of the gym for the singing of the national anthem tonight by Jonathan Young. Oh, say can you see by dawn what proudly we at the twilight last stars [singing] through the perilous spots [singing] we watch were so >> [singing] >> And the rockets the bombs [singing] bur. [singing] Oh s that star [singing] spangled b way [singing] for the land of the bra and the [singing] home of the brave. Thank you, John. >> Pretty good. >> He was I was standing over there waiting. He was over there practicing. >> Yeah. That's awesome. >> Ohio

High School Athletic Association and the Greater Cleveland Conference. Individuals tonight are Brandon Wallace, Anthony Ganon, and John Burba. And now it's time to meet the starting lineup. First, the visiting Strongville Mustangs. They are led by head coach and former Blue Devil assistants. Please welcome back Ryan Gil [applause and cheering] and the starter that guard two sophomore number two Brandon Meyers [applause] and guard a 6oot senior number three Jane McIntyre and forward a 62 senior number 10 Matthew [cheering and applause] and guard 62 senior number 20 and >> [cheering] >> And at that forward, a 6' junior number 22, Adrian [cheering] >> [cheering and applause] >> And now it's time to meet the starters for the number one ring team in the area [cheering] and defending Greater Cleveland Conference champion Devil. Oh, the devil and my

head coach and the China County all time win leader Joe Mackey tonight and Madden Trevor Mackey and Aaron Garvin. And now your starters forward [screaming] a 65 senior number zero. and car number one man and forward a sixoot senior number two L and guard a 6oot senior number three for a sing junior Your number 12 one more time blue. >> So there you go. As we talked about, the uh the atmosphere is here. Uh the intros, the lights, they're ready for this game. Talk about I mean some fanfare to begin the game. The lights are out. You got the great singing of Jonathan Young on the national anthem. And this place is packed. [cheering] All right, the ball's up in the air. Tip is won by the Blue Devils. Trey Drexler with the ball across

the timeline into the fourourt dribbling against buyers. >> You know the left side. You say every game so far it's been interesting to see who the opponent decides to face guard. Whether they're going to face guard Trey or whether they're going to face guard Shawn. It looks like they're going to start face guarding Barnett to begin the game. >> Yeah, Barnett at 6'5 is the tallest player on the floor. Drexler puts it up and in from three. >> It's good to establish that outside jumper early on because then he'll start driving to the basket like he did against Hobbiten. Yeah, they're going to have a hard time if they're not going to get up on Trey and let him shoot that and he's going to knock that down. That's going to really open up some

other things for him. >> Traveling violation on Brandon Buyers gives the ball back to the Blue Devils just underway here in the first quarter. [cheering] >> Leading scorer for Strongsville is Matthew Heepky. So that's who the Blue Devils will have to contend with. But on this end of the floor, Drew Mattis >> drives, lays it in. >> Good read by Drew there to get around the side and get to the hoop and score. Give the Devils a lead early here. Strongsfield working the ball, trying to find a lane to the basket. Three in the air by Hefty. Ball bounces around. Rebound to the Mustangs. Fuentes leaves it short. Rebound for Barnett. >> Drexler goes behind the back, pulls up, puts it up around the rim. No good. Tipped in by Luke Stella. >> And with

that, the Mustangs call timeout. It's a great put back by Luke. You know, we'll talk a lot about Trey. We'll talk a lot about Shawn tonight, but you got to talk about the rest of the starting lineup for the Devils, too. And I tell you what, one kid that was huge on Tuesday night was Luke Stella. They were faceguarding Shawn for a while, then they were face guarding Trey. Luke Stella stepped up and had an outstanding game. Aiden Ever continues to be huge, averaging what, 13 rebounds a game. So again, you got to talk about those other guys and and like we just mentioned, Drew Mattis with a great drive and score. Yeah, that's the thing about Joe Mackey coach teams is they are always very deep and his players can usually do just about

everything and that's what makes them so dangerous. >> All right, after the 30 second timeout, Strongsville brings it up the court. Buyers passes off to the left side. Hefty drives, spins, puts it up, leaves it short, gets his own rebound. No good again. >> Yeah, look who's there to get the rebound. Aiden Ever. >> Everybody has contributions in every game. Nice pass. They work the ball around. Jumper by Madison is true. >> Devils up nine nothing. >> Really good ball movement by the Blue Devils there. Strongsville counters on the break. >> They did not get the friendly bounce >> here in Brunswick. >> Blue Devils inbound. >> Mackey has a uh so far this season a short rotation. Uh six, seven guys are all that's really playing in key moments. >> Yeah, so far short

rotation to start the season. you know, only had six on the floor on uh Tuesday night, but I said, you never know when you need that next person to step up. And >> Blue Devils miss. McIntyre gets the rebound. Strongsville pushes three in the air. Buyers misses. Rebound Drexler. Drexler brings it up in the circle, gives to Barnett. Barnett from deep >> hits the three. Yeah, Brunswick's going to shoot like that. Strong's really going to have to make a decision to get up on them as soon as they cross half court. >> Yeah, Blue Devil teams almost always have a bevy of three-point shooters. >> Absolutely. Great block by Luke >> McIntyre couldn't find it. >> Blue Devils bring it the other way. Barnett again with the quick release. Misses that one. >> I tell

you what, back by Stella. >> He did it all Tuesday night, too. Luke Stella was everywhere on Tuesday night. He's there again for the put back. >> Just hustle plays. >> Yeah, not not a friendly welcome back so far for Ryan Cain as the Blue Devils run off 14 straight points to start the game. >> Yeah, Coach Cobain's a good coach. He'll make some adjustments in the timeout here, but obviously a great start for the Blue Devils. Yeah, you've got uh two players with four already. >> So, nice balanced scoring. Only one starter hasn't scored yet, but Everett's working on the glass. So, this is what Mackey likes to see. He He likes to see a quick start and then play some defense. Lock it down. >> Absolutely. Yep. >> Get a quick start, build

the lead, and then like you said, lock it down on defense right here. >> You know, they've done a great job. Strongzel hasn't had a ton of really good looks so far. Brunswick's really been there to defend every shot that they've had so far and they've rebounded the misses and they've been able to get it out and go. >> Yeah, only a couple second chance opportunities for the Mustangs so far as the Blue Devils doing it well in all facets of the game. >> All right, let's see what coach Kilbane drew up during the timeout. See if they can get on the board. Buyers brings it up, looks inside, doesn't find anything. Swings around to Hefty. Hefty dribbling against Barnett. Hands it back to Buyers. Aada on the dribble. Puts it up and ball is

stuck. >> You don't see that often [cheering] right now. Nothing going right for the Mustangs. The good news is >> that was good defense by Drexler there. I mean, he bas just went straight up on him, forced the shot, and >> Fortunately, the ball just got stuck in the rim. Mustangs had the possession, so they'll retain the ball. >> Little homecourt advantage. Three in the air in and out. >> Aiden Stro in off the bench for the >> Strongsville Mustangs. Barnett puts it up. No good. >> Rattled around and out. Hefty with the rebound. Pushes it up. Strongsville with a little tempo right now. >> Matthew Hefky launches. No good. Barnett another rebound. Quickly up the floor for Brunswick. Wow. >> What a put back. >> Two-handed jam. I tell you what, Aiden Ever is

all over the court all season long and he's right there for the offensive rebound and just puts it back in. Drexler's three is blocked by Buyers. Mustangs come the other way. Bounce pass over to Aada. Mustangs on the board. Abdul Aada with the three. Cuts it to 163. Devils on top. That would break the 160 run to start the game, but still you'll take that start any day of the week. And >> nice pass by Barnett. Swung around. Mattis puts it up. No good. >> It's a good look. That's a great extra pass from Aiden Ever there. >> Patel with the rebound for the Mustangs. >> And they go on offense. >> Myers swings it over to Patel. Patel. Nice pass inside to Hefty and their leading scorer gets his first bucket of the game.

>> Yeah, good back cut there. >> Blue Devils get it quickly down the court and Drew Mattis lays it in with the left hand. >> Yeah, it's a good rebound there. You know what? You get right back, get down the floor and score right away. >> Hefty wide open for three from the corner. >> He drills it. You can't leave him open like that. >> No. All of a sudden, we're exchanging blows here, going back and forth every possession. the 16-point lead down to 10. >> Three in the air for ever. >> It's pure. >> Devils up 218. >> Yeah, great balanced effort by the Devils so far to start the game. You said it before. Look down the scoreboard right now. Every one of the starters is in the scoring column right now. >>

He again launches from three. No good. Ever with the rebound. gets it up to Mattis. Drexler up top, looks to drive, switches to the left hand, jumper from the free throw line. No good. Hefty with the rebound. >> All right, Strongsville gets into their offense. Coach Gilane yells out what he wants. Buyers gets it going. Patel with the ball back to Hefky. Nice pass. Scores over Barnett. >> That's good movement by Strongzel there. >> Drexler. Corner three in and out. Patel with the rebound. He'll push. >> He reverse layup is good. [cheering] >> Strongsville coming back nicely here at the end of the first quarter. Yeah, it was all Blue Devils to begin the game, but Strongsville's really responded here. Get themselves back in the game. And >> yeah, 125 run for Strongsville. It looks

like coach Mackey's looking for the last shot. Drexler sends it into the corner. Stella [cheering] gets it to Ever is blocked. Strongs roll on the break. Reverse layup. No good. Blue Devils have a chance for a shot. Drexler at the buzzer. >> Oh, in [laughter] and out. >> Well, that's the end of the first quarter. >> Blue Devils up 2112. Kind of a a tale of two halves of that quarter. Blue Devils run out >> 16- nothing and Strongsville own the second part of that quarter. >> Yeah, Blue Devils first five minutes there were just, you know, absolutely lights out. You'll build a 160 lead and Strongsville with a great response. You know, coach Cobain used two of his timeouts, settle his team down, get them going, and you know, they've worked their way back

into the game. They're down nine. But again, that's a big difference between 16- nothing and 2112. >> How much of a factor do you think it is with all the knowledge that coach Kilbane has of the Brunswick program, how they do things, how much of that went into the game planning? >> Uh, coach Mackey is as good as they get. I'm sure, you know, he tweaks some things and changes some things to make sure there's some different looks, things that, you know, the other coach probably hasn't seen before. >> But yeah, I mean, it's it's, you know, it's whether you've coached with somebody before or even if you look at the coaches who we play against. Um, you know, you play these guys twice a year and many of them have been doing it for

a long time. >> You know, Coach Macki's been around 30 years. So, you know, you get familiar with what your opponents do. Obviously, Coach Kil Bane being on Coach Mackeyy's staff, that's a little bit different, but but again, yeah, I'm sure he's pretty familiar. He probably hears some of the calls and and has an idea what's coming, but Coach Mackey is great at what he does. I'm sure he's, you know, thrown some wrinkles in there, changed some calls, >> make sure it's not so familiar. >> That's why he's the winningest coach in Madina County history. Exactly. >> So, Blue Devils with the ball to start the second quarter. Mattis gets it back out top to Drexler. Drexler looking, resets the offense, dishes it out. Mattis misses everything. Cadris with the rebound. Mustangs looking to score

the first points here in the second quarter. >> He three over Barnett. Back of the rim. No good. Scramble for the ball >> off the Mustangs. Blue Devils to inbound. >> They talked about the short bench. Coach Mackey hasn't gone to the bench quite yet. He got the same first five still on the floor. >> Yes, a few substitutions so far for the Mustangs. And one of the things that Brunswick also is great at is making sure their guys are in great shape. Drive and a score. Luke Stella. Stella. teams are going to look to take away certain players. Luke Stella has done a great job finding that baseline cut. He scored off of it multiple times on Tuesday night. He's finding it again tonight. That's what you need your guys to do. They want

to take certain parts of your offense away. Other guys, step up. Here you go. Steal by Mattis. Move it down to the other end. Missed the layup. Mustangs coming back the other way. Buyers dribbles on Barnett. Looks inside. Nothing there. Sends it to the corner. Cadris. >> Great board by Matt there. >> Great board by Drew Mattis. >> Got a couple Mustangs waiting at the table to come in. Next opportunity. Barnett slips. Throws it away. Stolen by the Mustangs. Barnett with the ball. Ball in the hoop. >> Good finish at the hoop. >> Caught a little contact here, but still able to finish at the rim. >> Sean's eyes were getting big. He He wanted to dunk that one. >> Thought better of it. >> Chances are he'll get his opportunity at some point tonight.

>> Buyers sends it inside. Kick back out to Hefty. Shot in the air. are no good. Barnett goes up high for the rebound. Quickly the other way for Brunswick. Drew Mattis drives lane, kicks it out. Ever puts it up and in for three. >> Big start for Aiden Ever so far. Huge putback dunk. And then he now he's hit two threes. >> Yeah, Aiden Ever leads all Brunswick scorers with eight points. >> Blue Devils up 2812. Strongsville sends it back up top to buyers. >> Swing it around to Fuentes. Canders now trapped gets rid of it. Ever with good defense forcing Fuentes to dribble over to Buyers who drives, loses his footing. >> Traveling violation. Blueevil ball. And we have our first substitution. >> Yeah, it's good defense by Luke Stell and Aiden Ever there.

Neither one of them reached. Stayed straight up. >> Blue number 10. >> That's Obby in for the Blue Devils. >> We're getting our first sub of the night for the Blue Devils. >> Yeah. Four and a half minutes left in the second quarter and we've got our first substitution. Drexler goes through the legs, gets elevation, can't hit the shot. Rebound for Patel. Mustangs the other way. Aatada with the drive. Can't hit it. Drexler rebound gets it out to Abi. >> Back to Drexler. Puts it up and >> one. >> It's a nice feed from Prince A there. Trey with a nice cut finish at the hoop. >> Yeah, that time Drexler put it in another gear. >> He passed the ball up the court and then just sprinted, got the ball back, >> took the

hoop, drew the contact. >> Great job running the floor. >> And Luke Stella got about a minute and a half of rest on the bench and is back in replacing Drew Mattis. Drexler completes the three-point play. >> Who would have a lead 31-2? Buyers stops at the top of the key. Gets it off to Hefty. Drive, spins. Good defense by the Blue Devils. They have to bring it back out. McIntyre >> couldn't get anywhere against Barnett. Gets it to Hefty. >> Yeah, Strongzel's really looking for that dribble drive penetration. Brunswick's doing a great job just staying home, kind of forcing them to pull it back out, reset. >> Yeah, at 3112. The Mustangs can't afford to have these long possessions. They need to score often. [cheering] He shoots back of the iron. No good. Barnett

goes up high for the rebound. Dribbles the other way. Looks to pull up. Loses the ball. Stolen by Patel. Crosscourt pass to Aatada. Back to Buyers. Ball fed inside to Hefki. Draws the foul. >> Yeah, did a good job positioning himself there in the post. Prince just went over the back a little bit there. Good call by the officials. >> Mustangs from the baseline. >> Run their play. Turn the ball over. Steal for ever. Drexler drives, puts it up, puts it in. Drexler. >> Saw a lot of that on Tuesday night. That's the great thing about being a player that can do it all. You come out, you hit a couple of threes, >> they think about that, and you drive it to the hoop on him. >> Yep. >> Yeah. He just He's so

dynamic. I mean, like he said, he hits threes, so they pull it out on him and and start to guard him out on the perimeter and then he just starts working towards the hoop and scoring at the rim. >> Crosscourt pass into the corner. >> Aana puts it up. No good. Blue Devils bring it the other way. >> Hand off to Barnett. Thinks three. Pulls it back out. Gets doubled. Drives. Puts it up. Not a great shot choice there by Barnett. Rebound. Mustangs. They go on the break. Intercepted. Stolen by Drexler. >> Coast to coast puts it up. doesn't go, but he'll get two. >> Saw a couple of those drop on [music] Tuesday night. That one was almost right there, too. >> Listen, there there's a reason that he's going to be playing division

one basketball. >> He's great on the defensive end, >> can shoot the three, drive to the hoop, >> can rebound, >> hits his first free throw. into the game. >> Drew Mattis back in. >> So, back to the original starting five for the Blue Devils. >> We've got a minute 55 left here in the first half. Blue Devils up 3412. >> Drexler hits the free throw. >> Out. >> First Blue Devil in double figures with 10. >> Joe Becky takes the timeout. >> Discuss what they're going to do. going into the half here. They don't want to allow another run like Strongsville made at the end of the first quarter. >> Yeah, I'm guessing that's the reason Coach Mackey takes the timeout. He wants to talk to his guys about the defensive end, the next

possession here. Like you said, you don't want to let Strongsville go on another run here. You know, you start the game 160. You let them rebound 125. You >> You got a good lead built up here. You want to try and extend this out a little bit more. What you don't want to do is let them creep back into the game and and get it a little bit closer before halftime. Yeah, so far >> we're here the the middle of the the Strongsville fans. They haven't had a whole lot to get excited about. >> Small run. Uh Hefty hasn't done a whole lot so far. Their leading scoreer is nine points. >> Yeah. Nine of their 12. >> But he hasn't shot the ball exceptionally well. >> Yeah. No, I mean you've seen both teams

cool off a little bit shooting here in the second quarter. You know, but again, you want you want to try and avoid that run here for Strongsville. Have a good defensive possession. You got just under two minutes left in the half. >> All right, Strongser Lints the ball quickly gets down court. Three is over the basket by Stro. Student section lets them know. Barnett at the other end. Makes them pay. [screaming] >> And we're going to get a delay call on Shawn. That's hard balls. Your your your momentum still moving forward. That ball's coming out of the net there and you kind of touch it and you get the delay call, but it's just a warning. >> Blue Devils going with the press. Strongil gets it across in time. Three in the air by Fuentes.

No good. Rebound ever. Quickly back the other way as Mattis Drexler picks up the loose ball. Puts it up. Puts it in and fouled. Uh, you could say right place at the right time, but you also got to say that's great hustle by Trey getting down the floor >> being there just in case of a miss. And he's right there. He finishes it. He gets the and one. >> He has been nothing but hustle this entire first half >> and he's making things happen. >> Yeah, they've all done a great job. The effort's really been there so far. >> Makes the free throw for another traditional three-point play. Blue Devils up 40 to2 on the Mustangs. >> Nice action at the other end. Studier can't get it to go. Drexler brings the ball the other

way. Top of the key. Gets it over to Stella. Stella back to Drexler. Buyers on him. Drives in the paint. Puts it up. Spins it in. Drexler. >> He's doing it at the rim again tonight. and he's up to 15 points or under a minute to go here in the first half. >> Under a minute to go. >> Strongsville just moving the ball around the perimeter. Now buyers drives it in, puts it up. Glass no good. Another big rebound by Ever gets it quickly off to Mattis. Mattis sends it back up top to Drexler >> and they'll hold for the final shot. for nothing. >> Buyers keeping him right there for now. >> All right, 10 seconds. Drexler finds an opening. Puts another one in above the rim. >> Oh, look. We got a steal

here for Aiden Ever. We're going to get another look here. >> Back to Drexler. Drexler puts it in before the buzzer. [screaming and groaning] And just like that, the Blue Devils run out to a 46-12 lead on their rival Strongsville. Uh this is not what we expected. Uh we're close to having a running clock to start off the second half. Um Blue Devils have just blown the doors off the Mustangs so far. >> Yeah, I mean they put together a really just a a complete half in every area of the game. I mean, unofficially, you know, you have a a 17-6 advantage in rebounds. That's going to win you a lot of games there by itself. >> Yeah. Not giving up those second chances and creating second chances for yourself. Mustangs start the half with

the ball, working it around the perimeter trying to find an answer. >> Comes up short. A does. Blue Devils with another rebound. Drexler takes it the other way. A lot of times when you see a game that's, you know, the score that this one is at right now, you'd expect to have a lot of turnovers. Strongell doesn't have a lot of turnovers in the first half. You know, unofficially, it looks like only about six, >> but they've had a tough time shooting the ball tonight, and Brunswick's done a great job on the boards and collecting that and getting back down the court. >> Yeah, the Mustangs problem so far is just cold shooting. A lot of that has to do with the Blue Devil defense who locks them down again, brings the ball the other

way. Great pass inside. Drexler to Barnett who puts it in. Brunswick's done a really good job. They've contested the majority of Strongsville shots. You know, they've had a hand up on the majority of those looks and, you know, they've really only had a couple of really wide open looks. They've knocked a couple of those down. But again, we've done a great job rotating into position. >> Contest shots. >> There's just another chance at the rim. Fires couldn't finish. Second chance though for the Mustangs. Three up and no good by McIntyre. Rebound for Ever. Blue Devils quickly come the other way. Mattis drives. Doesn't find anything. Kicks it back out to Ever. Three in the air. No good. Rebound tapped up in the air. brought down by the Mustangs. >> Great hustle play by Luke Style.

Almost got that one. [cheering] >> Shane McIntyre hits the three. First points of the second half for Strongsville. >> Yeah. And there you go. You get a a wide open look and knock it down. Strongsville hasn't had a lot of those wide open looks all night. >> That time McIntyre made the Blue Devils pay. All 10 starters on the floor to start the second half for both teams. But if the score stays this way, expect to see that change as Barnett puts it up and in from the baseline. >> Yeah, we are in a a running clock right now. OSA rules anytime the lead extends out to 35 in the second half. You'll see a running clock it that won't stop unless we go below 30. Ever with the block at one end, Barnett dishes

it off to Mattis at the other. Three ball up. No good. Rebound for McIntyre. Brings it coast to coast. Blocked by Barnett. No look pass. Layup is good by Stella and one. >> What a sequence there for the Blue Devils. >> Talk about doing it at both ends. Sean Barnett with just a a monster block off the glass. Immediately gets the ball down the floor. Great look. Great finish by Luke Stella. And one [cheering] >> Drexler showing again one of the other great skills he has with that no look pass. I mean, he can shoot, but he can also distribute with the best of them. >> That's kind of a staple of coach Mackey basketball. really good passing, fundamental passing, extra passes, finding the open shot. But again, a lot of times you'll see those

guys make those extra passes, but you know, great passing in transition there to score. >> Oh, almost a steal by Drexler in the corner. Patel puts up the three front of the iron. No good. Rebound brought down by Ever. He'll dribble coast to coast. Great pass to the trailing Mattis who puts it in. Were we just talking about passing there? Aiden Ever set that all up by a great rebound. Gets the ball out in transition. Draws his man in and just makes an excellent pass right at the hoop for Drew Mattis. >> That's the other dangerous thing about this Blue Devil team. Everyone on the floor can dribble. >> They can all handle the ball. But obviously Shawn and and Aiden have a little bit of size with the height, but they have guardlike skill.

>> Three by Barnett. No good. Ever with the rebound, kicks it back to Barnett. Drives in, puts it up in front of the rim. No good. But he's >> fouled. >> Matthew Hefky with the foul. >> We got running clock coming up on three minutes left here. Third quarter. >> Barnett hits the first, making it 5815 for the Blue Devils. Barnett now in double figure scoring as well. He's got 12 with one more shot to come. >> Leaves that one short, but again ever tips it up. Ever tips it up. Luke Stella is there to grab it. >> Drexler three from deep. >> Wow. Well, Blue Devils >> showing why they're the number one team in the area. >> Three ball by Hefty. No good. >> Really put it all together tonight. I mean, they've

played well all season long, >> but this might definitely be their most complete game so far. >> Other than that real small stretch in the first quarter by Strongsville, they've really just dominated all parts of the game for the majority of the time. Now, here is the bright side, if there is one for the Mustangs. They got their rival very early in the season on Brunswick's floor. They've got some time to make some adjustments, get better as a team, learn each other, uh, you know, with the new program and they'll get Brunswick back on their own floor >> 100%. Coach Gil Bane is a really good coach. Coach Iiker is a really good coach. They'll break this film down. They'll look at it. They'll see where they can make changes and get better. And like

you said, you you got to go and play at their place next time. It's a rivalry game. Been watching a lot of rivalry games for a long time. And you know, you see games like this sometimes in the first goound and then you see a really good game in the second time that the teams play. Drexler misses the finish. Aana brings it the other way for the Mustangs. Gets it off to Patel. Patel crosscourt to Hefty in the corner. Three ball. McIntyre. It's good. [applause] >> 6120 now your score. Under a minute left here. Third quarter. >> Third quarter. >> Barnett drives. Cut off. Gets the ball back. Dribbles with the left hand. Fouled on the dribble. McIntyre >> Devil's Dan letting McIntyre know that he can't do that. >> We'll see what coach Coach

Trevor Mackey wants here who makes all the inbounds calls for the Blue Devils. >> And it worked. >> Well, that's a good call, coach. >> Yeah, >> that worked. >> Drexler, a nice little lob to Barnett who puts it in. Barnett now with 14 points. Strongsville will hold for the last shot. Under 10 seconds. >> Buyers dribbles, pulls up. Jumper no good. Rebound tipped by Ever to Mattis. >> After three quarters, your Blue Devils find themselves up 6320 in a dominating performance here on their home court. >> Yeah, the you know Brunswick's going to be able to score. They're just they're always so tough offensively, but when they put together the other parts of the game, the defense, the rebounding, that's what has really allowed them to kind of extend this lead out heading into

the fourth quarter. You know, yeah, being up 43 points right now. >> Yeah, it's unbelievable. You know, this is a Strongsville team who last year, I believe, finished second to the Blue Devils in the Greater Cleveland Conference. So obviously you have a coaching change. Uh sometimes that leads to some of the players already in the program deciding they don't want to play for a new coach. >> But to come out and and dominate uh to this level is very impressive for Joe Mackey and his players. >> Brunswick's got a pretty experienced group back here. You got some younger guys playing for Strong, >> but this is good. Now we're going to get to see an opportunity for some other guys right now. Yep. All the Blue Devil starters now on the bench and we'll see

how the young guys do against mostly Strongsville starters. Nice pass inside. Dom Fenton >> right off the bench puts it in, >> extending that Blue Devil lead. driving a score at the other end. Adrien Fuentes, >> it's always a great opportunity when the young guys get to come in and get decent minutes like this. Even with the running clock, it's still a great opportunity for them to get some game experience against some starters. >> Absolutely. It's huge experience. It doesn't matter. It's varsity experience and that's what you want. You want to try and get your guys that opportunity, that experience, and getting them ready. >> Fenton's pass knocked away by the Mustangs. >> Hefty checks back onto the court. Strongsville's leading scorer with 11. He's got half their points tonight. >> Lombardo dribbles, gives it

to Fenton. over that >> Abby. Stolen by Buyers. Drives to the other end, lays it in. [applause and cheering] >> Buyers first points of the game, >> which is surprising because he's their second leading scorer, averaging 11 points a game. >> Yeah. So again, the Blue Devils have done a really good job contesting shots tonight. Really limiting those open scoring opportunities for Strongsville. Buyers brings it the other way, pulls up, looking inside. Strob back to Buyers. Pulls up, shoots the three. Front of the rim, no good. Gets his own rebound. Hefty three in the air. Rim no good. Rebound still on the floor. Nice hustle by Lombardo to get that rebound. Crowd wanted him to shoot. [cheering] A three in the air. Back in the iron. No good. >> Fenton's three. >> No good. Gets

his own rebound. >> His own rebound off the three, too. Finally, Strongsville >> gets the rebound. >> Great hustle for Don Fenton there. Gets a three up. >> Just a little short on it. Goes right to the rim and gets his own rebound and gets another possession for Brunswick. >> The shots aren't falling, but you like to see the confidence in the young guys coming in and not being afraid to shoot. 21. >> Coach Kilbane empties his bench now with 444 remaining. So, we'll get to see some of the younger Strongsville guys. Aiden St. >> Studio drives in. >> Shots no good, but he's fouled. Tom Fenton with the foul for the Blue Devils. >> Two shots for the Mustangs. >> Number 11, Brandon Studio. >> So, the other thing that's impressive is this could

have been a little bit of a letown game after that big game against Hobbit. Um, you know, you go out, you get a big win like that against a private school on the road. You're coming in against your rival whose record is a little bit down. >> Yeah. You know, Coach Mackey talked about it [screaming] late last week heading into the win weekend talked about how this was a really big week for Brunswick. You know, you had a huge game at a at a really a top-notch program at at Archbishop Hobbit on Tuesday. You you had one of your rivals at home on Friday. And it's a quick turnaround for Brunswick. They they they're right back in action on Sunday down at Capitol University. They got to play a really good old and Tangi Liberty

team on Sunday and so you really only get one day off and and then you're right back at it and then it's another one day off and they're right back at it here on Tuesday night against roads and the heron hoops. >> That's what top programs do is is they seek out good competition >> which prepares you down the road for the tournament. >> Absolutely. You know, you look at the schedule all this season, you know, it's it's a hard schedule in the greater Cleveland Conference to begin with, but you know, then you throw programs like Tangi Liberty and Hoben Roads has a very nice team this year. I'm excited to see that game. St. Vincent St. Mary in a couple of weeks, Lima Senior. Those are all top-notch programs. So, you know, again, there's

no real let down game for them in non-conference play. >> Yeah, there there no real cupcakes on the schedule. >> [cheering] >> Yeah, I mentioned Tuesday night you got the Hair and Hoops Classic here. >> Mr. Kobe, the athletic director, has really done a great job putting together a slate of games that day. They're doing it a little bit different this year. They basically they have got five varsity boys matchups on Tuesday. But listen to some of these matchups. You've got Keystone and Walsh. Keystone's a phenomenal young team. I'm I'm excited to see them play. Buckeye North Ridgeville. >> Then you got Madina and North Royaltton. An old Pioneer Conference match up there. >> And then Bria Mid Park and St. Eds. >> Wow. >> And to close out tonight, you'll have Roads in Brunswick.

And again, that's next Tuesday. You come see five really good varsity games all right here at Brunswick High School. >> Yeah. get your your shopping done, get your presents, the food for the family, and come out here on Tuesday to enjoy some fantastic top-notch basketball. >> Yeah, it starts at 1:00. >> Again, five really, really good high school boys basketball matchups. >> All right, we're down to a minute 20. Shot is up and good along with the foul. That's number 33 Evan Guushing. >> Basket is good. Fouls on Fenton. >> He's got one shot. That's the kind of stuff you talk about in a 65-30 game is what's coming up. >> Well, it's exciting what's coming up. There's some some really good action for Brunswick coming up here. And I know I I'm really excited

about next Tuesday. Those are just It's great to have an event like that on your home court. >> Absolutely. All right, Blue Devils have the ball. Under 40 seconds now remaining in the game. >> Pretty sure they've been instructed not to shoot again. >> So, unfortunately, one one bench guy will get into the scoring column. >> 20 seconds. Blue Devils doing a good job holding on to the ball, not turning it over. Down to 10 seconds. Fenton will just dribble it out. And the Blue Devils have a 6531 victory over their rivals from Strongsville. >> And your final score >> top to bottom. An amazing performance by the starting five for the Blue Devils. Yeah, just a just a complete game and at all ends of all parts of the game. Um, offensively they were

solid. They they knocked down some some open looks. Um, you know, it wasn't one of those games where, you know, they dropped 15 or 16 three-point shots. They just moved the ball really well. >> Got good looks at the hoop and scored really well in transition as well. >> But ladies and gentlemen, we've had a fantastic time bringing this game to you. I believe we've got at least two more of these on the schedule. Uh so so watch the uh Brunswick Athletic Department's social media uh to see when our next broadcast is. Uh thank you John Justice for your your great insight as the uh Devil Den storms the court after the the victory over their rival. But uh it was a pleasure having you sitting next to me. [cheering] >> Well, thank you very

much. It's been a lot of fun and yeah, I'm looking forward to doing it a couple more times this season. All right, ladies and gentlemen, we thank you once again. Your final score, Blue Devil 65, Mustangs 31. Everyone, have a great holiday season.
