001Good. All right. Let's go ahead and call this meeting to only February 18th, 2026 at 6 PM. Lisa, could you call the role, please? >> Yes. >> Mr. Houseetler >> here. >> Mrs. Path, >> here. >> Mr. Fer >> here. >> Mrs. McGrath >> here and Mr. Sul >> here. >> Okay. >> Is that okay? >> Yep. I think we're good. >> Yeah. >> All right. Let's stand for the pledge of allegiance. Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Next, is there a motion to adopt the meeting agenda for this evening? >> So move. >> Second. >> Discussion or changes anybody sees. >> Please, could you call the role,
002please? >> Mr. Fer, >> yes. >> Mrs. Mr. Sul, >> yes. Mrs. Path. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Aver. >> Yes. >> Okay. Now, we have the approval of minutes for two meetings. The organizational meeting on January 7th and the regular meeting on January 7th. >> All right. We have a motion from Laura. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Any corrections? Please second that you call the role, please. >> Mr. Fer, >> yes. >> McGra, >> yes. >> Mr. Sullick, >> yes. >> Mrs. Pap, >> yes. >> And Mr. Hostler, >> yes. >> Thank you. Next on the agenda is district updates. >> So, one business item and then two fun ones. Uh the first one is the selection of a board work session. In our agenda meeting on Monday, uh there was a
003mention of uh possibility of setting up a work session. >> So I know we were potentially waiting on some things to be a available for that. was there that we talked about on Tuesday. I don't remember what that was though. >> We moved the uh facility planning list a discussion. Uh we're going to move that to March. Mrs. Kendra can be here. >> Okay. >> All right. So, we could potentially do the first or second week of March maybe for a work session on anybody's calendars. And if I may ask please, the work session would be earlier in a similar time slot as this. >> Uh we can do whatever works for everybody. Um sometimes we try to tack it out at the end of the day. So maybe like three or four if people
004are available. Um otherwise we could do an evening, but just depends on what works for everybody. So I have a late evening commitment. So earlier on a Monday, specifically earlier. Okay. are pretty pretty good. >> The second week looks a little bit better or >> doesn't okay because the first week's pretty busy for me. Would >> it be worth doing it like from 3 to six on the same day as it work? meeting until 3:00 that day. I mean, I could do start at 3:30 potentially on that day. What do you guys think about that? Or is that too too long of a meeting for everybody going 3:30 to potentially 7? >> Oh, you're providing dinner. Is that what you said? >> Yeah, I provided I did it with with as much money as she
005can cover. >> All right. So, 3:30 Wednesday, March. No, sorry. I'm out of town that week. >> Oh, that made it nice. >> Did the 11th work at all? Moving up a week before that Lisa said it was a little bit clean. March 11. >> Been no dinner. Earliest I can do on March 11th would be 4 pm. Look, my schedule's the problem. Sorry. >> That that time and day work for me. >> 4 p.m. on March 11th. >> It's fine. >> Where do you want to do it here or would you rather do it at the in the PD lab at the elementary school? If this is available, if we're not conflicting with anything, I think here would be better just in case any anybody from the public wants to attend. They know we're
006at the regular location. >> Sure, I'll double check. >> All right. So, I'll get back with you then on the location for that meeting once I check the schedule for the library here on the 11th. >> Next, we have one of our fun items, uh, a frequent flyer at our board meetings. Uh, Miss Zinsky is here. She was selected, uh, by our central office staff as our rookie of the year. Um, and the ESC did their education celebration and she was honored there. Uh, we had a nice dinner. She did not have to give a speech even though she had one prepared and she wanted to give one tonight or not. She's welcome to >> really good. >> But I I think uh Miss Linsky is probably the the tip of the iceberg in terms
007of rookie of the year is coming. We have a great staff. Um you know, she was uh one of the first uh new teachers we hired at the elementary school and it's helped us find a number of other teachers um to join our elementary staff and they do a great job working together. you've I'm not on Tik Tok, but I I I understand she uh does some great videos on there, school related, so if you are, look her up. I've seen a few of her creations. They're they're pretty fun. >> It's under my maiden name, so I'm harder to find. >> Oh my god. Well, we remember that. Those are aliens. >> Having that aliens. >> So, thank you for all you do. We appreciate it. >> I really It's I've had an amazing time
008so far. I really love it. And everyone I work with is really amazing. the support is like none other in this district. So very thankful >> so far and it comes out every year. So thank you for all you do for our little learners. >> Thank you. >> And then uh we also had Mrs. Suki who was our teacher of the year. She had a a conflict and Mrs. Brown who had our lifetime achievement award. Um and they couldn't make it this evening. Um but we still appreciate them and they do a great job. um we'll definitely be uh missing them as they go off into retirement, but we wish them nothing but the best. And next we have the spotlight, which is the high school. >> Good evening, everyone. Mr. Bud is a little
009speaking shy, but my wingman's going to take care of the technology for me. So >> I'll speak but nobody wants to hear me. >> That's what he said. So >> I was telling I think things that Mr. B says always has a great perspective sometimes that I don't. So it's nice that way. So uh spotlight on the high school. We were here back in I think October is when we were here last. So we have all the way from Thanksgiving until now to cover. Um, normally the high school goes a little later in the year, but uh we ended up here a little bit early, so we don't have all the senior stuff that you might be used to seeing at the at the second spotlight for the high school during the year. Um, but
010back before Thanksgiving break, our National Honor Society sponsored an afternoon of fun for our students. We played uh dodgeball and red light, green light of all things. That's what the high school kids wanted to play was red, red light, green light, which sounds super odd, but Mr. Sens came over and was our DJ for that event. and Pastor Ferno from Community Christian came over and u worked with our kids and you know played a little dodgeball and he may have been super successful at dodgeball. So um he had a great time but we're we're always glad to have him here and you know doing some things with our students and uh having a great time and they uh as you can see the winners are up at top there. They got the spirit stick. So
011here we are with that. Next, we had a canned food drive that was sponsored by our student council and we took all of the food that we collected at our canned food drive and donated it to Lockwood Food Pantry. So, everything that we collected went directly back to people within our own community. So, uh we're super happy to be a part of that and to, you know, help our students engage in the process of empathy and, you know, for others and, uh, being involved in in that process. So, we're very, very excited about that. They did a great job and yeah, as we you can see, we collected quite a bit. So, good stuff there. Uh, speaking along the lines of community service, our key club went out for fall cleanup day that had to
012be postponed once due to rain, but they went out and did their fall cleanup for homeowners in the area. And, you know, they did a really great job and we had some really great feedback from some people in this in the community who were assisted by our students. Then we get to Christmas time and Mr. Fisk and Mrs. Dort and Mr. Shen came over and took a peek at our doors and we were able to pick some winners. So, we had Mrs. Troyer, um, Mr. Davis, that's actually an heir, Mr. Davis and Mrs. Bellnap for their their winning doors. So, uh, really had a a great time with that and, you know, everyone on the staff embraced that and, um, we, uh, we decorated the place. It was, uh, very festive here. And, as you
013can see, they we had a little spirit week, too. you may or may not represent National Lampoon. So, they had a good time with that. Uh, also along the lines of Christmas fun, the day before Christmas break, we had student council again uh sponsor some fun events. We had a Just Dance tournament in the theater and a three three-point shooting contest in the uh in the gym. Had a great time with that. Um Damen Gore, one of our JB basketball players, won the uh the event for the three-point shootout. And then we had uh Crawford, one of the Crawford boys, that's not Colton, the other one of the Carter boys. Um one of the Crawford boys won our Just Dance contest. So um but we had a lot of staff members were involved in planning
014that event. Mr. Glass kind of coordinated the entire thing and then we had Mr. Mr. Hipley, Mr. France, um Mr. Kane, Mr. Egan, you know, they help run everything in the gym. So, it was really great. And um and along the lines of of me, we have students when we do those events, they're on one floor in the building. We don't have them anywhere else in the house. So, um I have to have a little bit of water when we do those things. So, uh one floor and one floor only. So, we don't have anyone anywhere else. So, um also at the holidays, our choirs were very active in our community. They performed at the Porters Lakes Treelighting, the Coventry AARP Holiday Lunchon. They sang for residents of the Green Village Retirement Home and also
015performed at the Tutor House, not on here. They were on here. They were at the um AAN Children's Tree Festival as well. So, I had the pleasure of going down there and watching them perform there. So, they did a really great job and I said they were all over the place and uh it was uh they did a a great job. We were very excited to to share their talents with our community. They're absolutely amazing. Um, now we're going to get into some classroom things. We actually have representation from nearly every department today. Uh, Mrs. Paposhani students in their US history classes were using their their knowledge of voting laws to determine if individuals could vote at certain times in history. So, they had to use their problem solving skills to kind of simulate what
016that looked like and you know, if they landed at X point in history, would they have been able to vote? So kind of simulate simulate that as a as an option. So as you can kind of see in the picture on the board, we'll show you that. I'll get this presentation when we're finished to Mrs. Blau so she can include it in your notes from the end. So we'll make sure that that we accomplish that. Um in addition, we have Mr. Jameson's students who were broken into groups and they analyzed a poem called the writer and they had specific tasks illustrators, discussion director, highlighter. at the end of the period they presented to the larger group. So, you know, that involves collaboration, communication, all of those journey of a common things that we try to
017make sure that we're instilling in our students every single day. Um, our math students in Mrs. McCauley's group, they had uh math leads and they used a Saturday to compete using their critical thinking and problem solving skills at the start mathematics matchup. um that involved Jackson Anderson, Cody Basinger, Ethan Blackmer, Shelby Carmichael, Jyn, I can't say Jyn's last name. He's our um exchange student from Norway, um Austin Rose, Rebecca Skullik, and Ivon Vasich. And if you missed Jen's at the basketball game yesterday, he was all draped in an American flag with a like a American flag cowboy hat, sunglasses in there. I said, "You have to send a picture to your parents right now." You know, him looking. He poos America like America snores. I'm like, "Yes, yes you do, Jensen." So he's he's super
018fun. So Mrs. Parker's class were making Christmas cookies. They worked hard to do that and had fun eating the results. Of course, u Mrs. Parker really makes everyday life activities super super fun for her students. And you know, we love as a building getting to participate in those things as well. Um and in a few few slides later, you'll see her students actually delivering hot chocolate to the staff. Um so that was fun as well. Um, then we get to science and Mrs. Zjac students, uh, they became full-on sensory explorers. Um, as they rotated through hands-on lab stations to test their vision, hearing, balance, touch, taste, and smell, they collaborated with their partners, compared results, made surprising discoveries, laughs along the way, uh, especially during the taste and smell challenges. I actually got invited to
019the classroom for that lab. They had a poll with that. They had so much fun. So you I'm walking through trying to figure out what in the world is going on in here. It's so loud in here. They were having an amazing time uh learning, you know, some great things about science. So problem solving, critical thinking, you know, using those hands-on experiences here. We also have financial aid and co college credit plusformational night. Uh that was put on by Mrs. Barren and Mrs. Her. um you know making College Credit Plus available for students in grades 6 through 11 obviously if they qualify to do so um and we shared the information with our community how students can qualify for college credit plus our national honor society has had two blood drives since the last time
020we have seen you and these blood drives have been amazingly successful um amazing what kids will do when someone is going to give them a gift card so uh they um got a a gift card from the American Red Cross to donate blood and we had like 47 47 students donate blood this last time around. So we were very very successful and you know again keeping with the journey journey of a comment you know empathy being able to to allow our students to do that. So very excited about that. They did a real Mrs. Brown and National Honor Society put that together and they did a really nice job. And the next one is the treat where we got uh hot chocolate delivered to us. They took orders and they they delivered hot chocolate to
021us on one of those really cold mornings. Had a great cup of hot chocolate delivered to my office by Miss Belle. So that'll make your day any time better for sure. Along those lines, we also had student council and a fundraiser bring the Tom's coffee truck here. So students were able to go out and get a coffee at their during their advisory and lunchtime. Uh they had a a line the entire time they were here and uh we we sold them out of a lot of things. So, um, if if we sold coffee here on the daily, we would make a nice chunk of change. That's for sure. Green doesn't Green has a coffee bar. Yeah, that Let me tell you, that's smart. That is that is smart work because they, you know, they they
022come in here with the $5 they spend at Duncan every day. I'll tell you that. >> I was at Green when they had the coffee bar. >> Yes. >> Spent a lot of money at the coffee. >> I bet you did. I bet you did. We need one of those. I might spend a little too much money at the coffee bar if we had one, though. Uh, we also have our music department. Gage Hamri, Xander Snder, and Josie Brown were auditioning and they were selected to perform with the University of Akran's Ohio Band Director Conference Honors Band in December. That's a mouthful. They joined 70 other high school students from throughout Ohio to prepare a concert and in one day of rehearsals. They had one day of rehearsals before they performed with with that group.
023So, super proud of them and their efforts as well. Now, the next slide, this is actually one of my favorite things because we just randomly chose students. We made a spreadsheet of the students who had missed less than four hours of school and who were on the honor roll and just put them in one of those like randomizers, like a spinning wheel thing, and went live on the announcements. And uh those students received a Dairy Queen Blizzard a week for a year. And so those were given to us when Dairy Queen opened and those kids were super excited and you know a few of them will come in here every week and tell me which flavor blizzard they tried this week because they get a free one every single week. And so um those students
024are students who either miss less than four hours of school in the second quarter of the year or they I'm sorry first quarter of the year or um they were on the honoral. So um they were very excited about that. That was the second group we had. having a couple different groups that that got blizzards for a year. They were very excited about that. So, um if Dairy Queen's listening, it'd be really great if we could get a few more of those because the kids are the kids are wondering when the next drawing is and I don't have any of those left. So, um but they they were very very excited about that. So, uh we have had some very exciting news here just in the last week. We had our esports students uh qualify
025for the state match. Our premier team um they lost actually just last week they lost and our club team participated today and that was Lorena VA um Ham Chavez Lee Becklesi and Aiden Stemple. That's the club team. They actually participated today and I tried to get over to Mr. class to see how they did and I I don't have that answer yet, but their match their state match was today at 4 o'clock. So, it was live streamed. So, if you're in Parent Square or on the Facebook page, you can click that link and it should maybe take you to what their live match was. Um, I went in that room. I will tell you when they were competing last week. If you have never been in our esports room when those kids are competing, let
026me just tell you the level of communication required to do what those students do, the level level of collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, like they have to think on the fly right now. And you know those kids who you know you see them in different places in the classroom, you're like, how are they doing that? And they just on the fly right now just make those decisions and communicate with each other. Hey, I'm going here. Hey, I'm going here. And it is one of the most amazing things. Um when I was coming over here last year, it was one of my favorite things that I saw when I when I came to the high school. I'm like, I am so excited that I get to continue to see that. If you've never seen our kids
027play esports, it it's worth a watch. Um it it's truly truly brings me joy to watch them do. And we had a clap out for them last week. Had a clap out, had the band parade through the halls and everyone cheered them on. It was great. So last week we also had seniors Sundays with seniors and that was on last Tuesday. Mrs. Freeder came in and and helped us make Sundays and so we had the senior class members of the senior class with Mrs. Linkovich and Mrs. Freer. Um kids could buy Sundays for a dollar or $2, I'm sorry, $2 and proceeds go to senior class. So they came in and and did that. We have another seniors Sundays with seniors coming up this week because it was super popular. So they ran out of
028ice cream. So they should go to the other schools. >> Not a bad idea. Not a bad idea. I like how you think, Paige. >> So the last one of the last pieces here before we get to athletics as we talk about moving forward at CHS. So one of the activities that we have been really engaged in this year is working with our staff, administrators, staff, school counselors, Mr. Shens working on our course offerings and trying to get our course offerings um a little more modernized um a little more appealing to students um off to try to diversify some of those course offerings. And so um one of the things that I did was I built a spreadsheet and looked at all of the like area schools that are similar in size to us. So
029like the new athletic league that we're going to were in similar in size to all of those schools. So you know took their course offerings divided them by department so I could say okay so these are the classes that are offered in social studies in our area science in our area math in our area and just kind of so we could compare kind of where we are versus where some other people are. And then I threw in some outliers because you know why not? Um you know the outliers like green for example. Now, obviously, we're not going to be able to offer the same types of things that they're offering in Greens larger and have a greater resource pool than us for sure, but just to kind of see what they're doing, just to have
030that outlier out there. So, threw in a couple of those just for fun, but also had those schools that are similar in size to us. So, then we engaged the part the departments u Mr. Bud and myself um engaged the departments in working collaboratively together as a staff to determine like here we are as a department here. So this is what Coventry offers. This is what's being offered in your department and other places. How can we utilize our current existing staff and their talents to diversify the offerings for our students and what would you offer? What would you want to do? What are within your qualifications? And just to try to get them thinking, you know, outside of the box and doing some of those things. So we have engaged our staff in that and
031also engaged our staff in something even more exciting um is how can we utilize our existing staff and have our staff become credentialed to teach dual certified courses. So students can take classes here at our high school and not have to go to a main campus at the university and earn high school and college credit at the same time with our staff, people that are already here. So we are in process right now working with both Kent Stark and the University of Akran um having our staff members apply the ones who have some of those credentials um having them apply so they can be adjunct status at those institutions so we can offer those courses here and so looking to try to offer maybe one or two next year and then just kind of see
032where we can expand from there but you know utilizing the existing talents of the existing staff that we have. So trying to take what we have and just maximize the potential of all of those things. So very excited about that. And so we are looking at some new course offerings for next year. Um so we're going to float them out through the kits and see what they think. They may sign up for them, they may not. We'll see. But we definitely think they're a little more exciting than some of the things that we currently have that you know maybe are a little bit outdated. So, um, one of those things would include, um, a class in AI. Um, that's actually with a group that Mr. Shenz has found that, um, we have a staff member
033who'll be working with the AI for youth and they offer like all the curriculum, you know, all the things involved in that and the teacher training that goes with that. Um, they they take care of all of that. So, it's not something that's going to be like a cost to us to do. um in addition to creative digital design, sports history, um introduction to the stock market, forensics, robotics, um you know, those those are things just to name a few with existing staff with people we already have in house. Um so what we add will depend upon, you know, where things fit in the master schedule and what the students choose. So we're we're excited to give them the opportunity to choose those things. So um and then that next piece for for dual credit
034that I just spoke about. So that's the the last piece there. And again, utilizing exist existing staff to the to their maximum potential. So, super excited about that. So, winter sports, these are just a few pictures from media day of of all of our winter sports athletes. And we get to some accomplishments of our winter sports people bowling. Aiden Jensen is the MAC player of the year on our boys bowling team. Our country boys bowling team advanced to the district tournament by placing first at the sectional tournament and they play Friday morning. Friday morning they play Friday morning up in Lraine. They play Friday morning up there. So Friday I think they start only at about 10 I think on Friday morning. And then our wrestlers uh Evan Owen had his 100th win this year.
035Got to be here for that. Very exciting news for Evan. our middle school wrestlers were the math team champions. And in the center there is a picture where we have state champs, qualifiers, and flags. All of those things are now in our wrestling room. So, you know, we have the, you know, basically the history of Coventry wrestling is now hanging in our wrestling room. Just something to try to motivate our our kids and, you know, to help them really to understand the tradition of Coventry wrestling. So, we're excited about that. Uh, Mr. Kanega actually put that together for us and did a great job. And then we have Miss Kayla Mun, new single game record holder for she scored 43 points, nine three-pointers in one game. That was a pretty big deal. And actually, Kayla
036right now, the the Beacon Journal Player of the Week, that's also on our Facebook page right now. If anyone wants to go vote, go vote for Kayla to be the Beacon Journal Player of the Week. And then our boys basketball tournament game is next Friday. Not this coming Friday, but next Friday at Clover Leaf at 7 o'clock is their tournament game. And our girls tournament game is Thursday night. So tomorrow night in Conat. So that's a little bit of a haul for us. >> Where is it? >> Knott poor Mr. Mr. Boggas has to go to Connie out tomorrow night at at 7 and then uh bowling Friday morning in Lraine. So Mr. Boggas will be the world traveler for for the week. So and then finally upcoming events. I I won't uh list I
037won't say them all for you. I'll just let you read them. And again they'll be in the PowerPoint that I send in Mrs. Blau that will be sent to all of you. So all those events will be there if you want to see them. So uh clearly we have a lot coming up. That's not even all of them. though when we talked about May being busy, I'm like, "Yeah, that doesn't even include half of May." So, I'm a little concerned about that. So, uh, very exciting. So, uh, thank you for hearing out the high school tonight. We're super super happy to and excited to share all of the great things happening at the high school and really looking forward to just continuing to, you know, finish out on on a high note. >> Thanks to
038my wing man, Mr. Bud. >> Thank you, Mrs. Norris and Mr. Bud, >> uh, if I could just before we move on, um, Mrs. Norris mentioned Mr. Ferno. Um, when you run into Mr. Ferno, if you could just thank him. Um, he has just been an absolute gem. I can't I don't even have the right words to describe. Um, I I ran into him at a basketball game and I I mentioned we had a conversation about how I don't think he ever says no. And then he started giving me some of the examples of when he did say no uh, so he could be with his family. Uh but he does everything for us. If if we reach out to him, if we ask him for anything, he volunteers uh non-stop in the schools. Um
039but if you just run into him, you just thank him. Um he does an amazing job. The kids love him. Um I can't say enough good about the work that he does with us. And those would be all of the items under district report and special guests. >> Very good. Thank you presentation. I appreciate it. >> Okay. Uh, next up we have citizen participation. Yes, we don't have any. Okay, let's move into board of education conference and we'll start. It's amazing going down through all the things. I'm trying to keep up writing and listening. Next time I Oh, speaking of the esports, have we gotten a plaque or or a flag for the gym for their championships? >> We have one to the left by the visitor section, but I forget which year that one
040was from for the esports >> for the chess championship. The state champion chess what three years is Mr. last all that talk about uh what lead are we in now? Are we still in the metro or we're going to be in the metro? We're not in the metro. We're in the pack. So, >> so yes, >> great segue. I I didn't bring that up, but uh we are in the MAC currently for the rest of this year and then we transition to the Pack 7 in every sport except football next year. Next year and football were independent because of the the way the way the schedules went when we joined the pack. Um you may have I'm sure you saw in the news or on social media um that Ferless and Tesla um notified the
041Pack 7 that they're leaving to form a new league. Um we've been I I think we've been talking about Pack 7 teams and districts uh since uh a week ago Thursday when the news hit. Uh we have a meeting tomorrow at Canton South between all the superintendents uh high school principles and ads uh so that we're all in the same room to discuss um either adding one or two um schools to the pack to replace Fairless and Tesla. Um but as a group we're still excited about the Pack 7. Um it's still a great fit for us and I um the initial conversations I think we'll bring in one or two schools. It'll still be a great fit for us. Well, I come up with a locker room talk and uh they were talking about
042getting south with fun trying to go somewhere else, but then the metro has falls coming in coming in and also >> Kent Roosevelt. >> Yes, Kent Roosevelt. And so they've got more coming in. They're I don't know if they're larger or better. They we we need to find a spot for us and to right with with Tesla going and barless going. I was thinking after seeing a couple of those games that we're but I we'll see what happens. It's just like the college level where we have teams that are you'd never guess the big 12 and go into the SEC type of thing. But it's it's all money there. I don't think it's the money issue down this level. So yeah, I just trying to keep up with who's got the who's got the the
043coconut shell and who's got the feed. I nationaliz society great deal with the blood driver. I remember thinking that on a couple of back in the day and the college credit good things they do here. Uh I would like to acknowledge the arts department's uh band of music program. I've witnessed many of the events that have been shown uh and also have received uh community comment and talking about music is the future. So that's that's kudos to the arts departments that are allowing kids to be kids and to enjoy life. Thank I I don't have much to say for the presentation. Appreciate it. I always love to see what's going on in schools and page. Congratulations. Nice job. We're happy to have >> um I was asked by the um Blockwood Food Pantry to please
044express whenever I could at anything I attended to express their appreciation to us for our support and the way that we communicate with them and cooperate with them. Um I don't know how many of them know but personally in charge of that is Lesie Hearth who is Leslie Mashurn and that's a familiar name in this community but um she is really thrilled with the cooperation with public schools and they have quite a big group of families that they're serving. Um they have over 200 usually every time that they pass out food and their biggest they really they need help and they need people that can help them on I think it's Mondays they go to the food pantry unload it and package it and then on Wednesdays they have their pass up days and it's
045I know some of our people have gone there and listened and helped actually but um and someone talked talk to them about maybe having some students who rent after school or something to help them package boxes to be ready for families. But they are serving families in our area and it's quite an outreach and we have, you know, a couple people that we know that have gone there and been so appreciative. So, um they're just they're really grateful especially the coming school. So, um I promise that I would make make them better. >> Um congratulations to you guys. It's fantastic. You have a great legacy see ahead of you. The ladies that were also um Brown are fantastic people. Also a great presentation. Um, so wrestling, I was here for a wrestling um, meet and
046it's like a whole city that descends on the school. I I don't understand. I'm not a wrestling person, but it's absolutely amazing. So, I saw the the whole list of everything is in the wrestling room, but those of us who never have been in the wrestling room will never ever see that. Is there a way to show that in the gym somewhere? like a smaller version of something. It's like a going back to the whole like damn flags or whatever something that we could say what the winners are. Um I don't know what that looks like but maybe have some type of wrestling area and gym. >> Yeah, it's another way the community needs to see what do >> Yeah. I mean esports as well like if that's where they're going to come in then
047maybe that's something they do. Um and then for the teachers being dual like what did you call it? dual dual credit dual credit certified. It's fantastic. I'm so glad you're doing that. Um I know that would really help our kids um be able to take college credit with staying here, keep our kids in the building. I love that idea. So, good job. Great. >> Okay. Usually take just a brief break in case anybody in the audience wants to take off the business portion. I know it's exciting. >> Thank you so much. doing superintendent recommendations, please. Uh number one, a recommendations. Uh number one, employment for after school tutoring. It's recommended the board approved the following individuals to be hired for after school tutoring and test prep at Coventry Elementary School. The goal of this program
048is to prepare students for success on the state achievement tests. And as a reminder, this is paid through our title four funds. Number two, retirement resignation. This is one that um I I was hoping wasn't coming. Uh Mrs. Brown does a phenomenal job in our elementary school, but um it's recommended the board accept the resignation due the retirement of the following employee for the position indicated, and that's Mrs. Brown. Uh number three, supplemental coaching contracts 2526. It's recommended the board grant and or reissue the following supplemental coaching contracts for the 2526 school year per exhibit S1. Non-staff contracts are contingent upon receipt of a clear record of the required background checks. And the new um staff on that list would be uh the baseball staff. Um it was, as you remember, we hired a new
049head coach, Mr. Snyder. Uh and he's put his staff together. Long-term substitute. It's recommended the board employ the following is a long-term substitute for the 2526 school year at a rate of $110 per workday. Long-term substitute pay is based on actual days worked. And that's for Mrs. Souza who will be um finishing the year for Mrs. Tucker who retired. And those are all of the items under uh personnel certified. >> Okay. A motion to discuss those items. questions or comments. >> Could you call the role, please? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Uh item number two, personnel classified a recommendations. Number one, substitute. It's recommended the board employ the following to to approve the classified substitute list and that's Mr. Henline who is a longterm supporter of the schools and a great ally um and a
050a great ally to our our district. Uh number two's resignation. It's recommended that the board accept the resignation of the following employee for the position indicated effective and that's Mrs. Shaw as a 7-hour uh classroom attendant at Coventry High School. and that was um she had an opportunity uh to expand a second job she had um and that was a a better fit for her and her family. Number three, employment. It's recommended the board approve the following for the position indicated contingent upon receipt of a clear record of the required background check. Uh, that's Miss Bennett as a seven-hour country high school classroom attendant, Miss Stanton as a one-hour bus attendant, and Miss Johnson as a two and a half hour CES lunch recess assistant. And those are all of the items under personnel classified.
051>> Right. Thank you. Is there a motion? questions discussion on this call. >> Yes. >> And Mr. Yes. >> Uh, number three, other business items. A recommendations. Number one, contract Ohio School Council. It's recommended the board approve a contract with the Ohio School's Council OSC not to exceed $500 for their auction services to facilitate the legal disposal of previously declared obsolute vehicles approved by the board of education. Number two, an agreement with Alco. It's recommended the board approve an agreement with Alco to strip, refinish, and repaint the gymnasium floor at CMS for a cost of $11,999. Number three is agreement with Neonet. It's recommended the board approve an agreement with Northeast Ohio Network for Educational Technology Service for upgrades to network infrastructure at Coventry Elementary and Coventry Middle School for a total pre-isount cost of
052$358,868. Um, and please note that there's an additional note there about possible um offsetting of that cost using e-grade funds. Uh, number four is an agreement with Delta Industrial Painting. It's recommended the board approve an agreement with Delta Industrial Painting Company to clean, prep, and paint the external building areas of CES and the gym. The gym ceiling, stairwell, handrail, handrails, and awning posts at CMS at a cost of $80,000. Um, we had initially uh looked at these projects separately. Uh, but we found if we put them all together, we got a much better price. Uh, so we packaged them together as part of the RFP process. Um, and I'd like to point out that, uh, our plan is to do the painting before the finishing of the of the middle school floor. Number five is
053an agreement, college credit plus. It's recommended the board approved the agreement with the following to provide college credit plus courses to eligible Coventry local students. One thing I would like to point out is u these are the three schools we've used uh traditionally over the years but pointing out this the rates at the bottom. Um not only is it um uh an advantage to have our staff uh teach our students and and keep our students here, but it's also cheaper uh for the district if our staff teaches these courses compared to um the kids leaving or doing the remote learning through the colleges. Substantially cheaper as you can see. Uh, number six is Ohio High School Athletic Association. It's recommended the board authorize membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for schools under its
054jurisdiction. Schools eligible for membership are those that include one or more grades in the 7 through 12 level. It's agreed that these schools will conduct their athletic programs in accordance with the Constitution, bylaws, regulations, interpretations, and decisions of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. This resolution shall remain in effect for the 2627 school year. Number seven, accept donations. It's recommended the board accept the following donations. Um $300 for Miss uh Hanley's classroom from the Summit County Retired Teachers Association and a flute for the CMS band uh from Miss Perkins. Number eight, to accept a grant. It's recommended the board accept the following grant. Uh it's for $13,46, which will go to improve the camera systems uh on our buses. Number nine's deletion of inventory operations department. It's recommended the board approve the following deletion of
055inventory from the operations department. It's our 2010 Ford van. Uh it's currently located in the transportation department and I would say it's probably about 5 years past its lifespan. Um so I believe we got everything out of that 2010 ban that we could. Uh number 10 is Coventry Middle School PL fundraiser. It's recommended the board authorize the waving of the invoiced custodial fees associated with the Coventry Middle School pals December 13, 2025 fundraiser. The event was significantly impacted by a winter storm that resulted in substantially reduced attendance and lower than anticipated fundraising revenue. The PAL's organization volunt the PAL organization volunteers organized the event in support of our students and the circumstancing affecting turnout were beyond their control. And those are all the items under other business. >> Thanks, George. Is there a motion? >>
056I'll second question about any of those items. Can you give some more information on the um Neonet cost to upgrade the elementary school $8,000? >> Yes, it's um it's our switches, our servers. Um is we if you remember, we did the same thing here at the high school last year. >> Last year. And this gets all of our buildings back up. Um, unfortunately, I would I would love if this uh technology and infrastructure lasted longer than it does, but unfortunately um it becomes obsolete faster than we would like it to. >> Does this put all of the security on the same feed? >> Um, this would support the IP security cameras because it's our infrastructure of our network. Um, so it would in a roundabout way support those. Um but it's not an upgrade of
057particularly with security >> does improve cyber security allows us to upgrade the software associated with firewalls that we're doing. >> Great point. Thank you. Former tech director. I should have just referred to Mrs. So we do 80 something crazy like 80% reimbursement rate on those. So while the >> different portions >> different. >> Yes. >> While the sticker price is 358 in the notes here it says 50 approximately for the um painting. Is this um a bunch of renovations happening at the middle school too? Like are they going to windows and >> not yet we have that on our master list uh for discussion at our March meeting uh to see if there any additional items? Um these were there these were just the three items from that list that we um couldn't wait for
058due to scheduling especially trying to stagger the painting and the finishing of the gym floor. Um, but that item is on there. This will be just for the painting of the uh inside of the gym itself where all the paint's peeling on the ceiling on the terrible. >> Um, and then fixing up some of the walls. Any other question? Please call the roll, please. >> Mr. Fner. >> Yes. Yes. >> Yes. >> And >> yes, >> one more thing real quick and thank you to the Summit County Retired Teachers Association for their donation to the classroom. That's awesome. And for food. >> All right. to treasur recommendations. >> Thank you. This evening we have several financial items on the agenda. Item one, it is recommended that the board approve and place on file the December
0592025 financial report per exhibit T1. Item two, it is recommended that the board approve and place on file the January 2026 financial report per exhibit T2. Number three, it is recommended that the board approve EOS over 5,000 per exhibit T3. Item four, it is recommended the board approve the resolution to accept the rates and annual amounts as determined by Summit County Budget Commission certificate of tax levy dated February 2nd, 2026 authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county fiscal officer per exhibit T4. Item five, it is recommended that the board approve the then and now per exhibit T5. Item six, it is recommended that the board approve the contract with Constellation New Energy to supply natural gas to the Coventry Local School District as outlined in exhibit T7 through six. Okay. So,
060don't see any attachments in four. I reviewed everything yesterday, but I don't know if you guys have access to the attachments of Docs or if you have >> on your account. >> Uh I did not sign in to see my personal account, but we have that too. >> Actually, YouTube financial items. six months ago. >> Yes, they weren't sure. >> I had them from yesterday. >> Oh, that's right. >> Would you like me to redo my 5,000? >> Oh, yeah. Hold on. Should we start with the >> Yeah, please. >> Okay. So, on this month's list, we have reliable snow plowies. This would be the second blanket purchase order. The request is for 75,000. The next item for the multi- vendor for student transportation services is second blanket for city services. It is in the
061amount 30,000. And the next one is also a multi- vendor. It's from maintenance parts and supplies second blanket purchase order 15,000. Alco Chemical Supplies and that is uh this request corresponds with the contract that was talked about this CD to refinish and repaint middle school gymnasium floor for $11,999. Industrial Appraisal Company for an on-site inventory and appraisal services for $11,300. And I will just note that the board actually approved this in prior fiscal year actually in 2024 um and at the time we approved a contract in the same amount and we knew then that we would be put on a wait list until the company could get to us. Well time has come our our numbers up which I actually didn't was actually true that they had a weight list just forgot about us. Um,
062so our numbers up. So I just wanted to since it wasn't a different fiscal year, I wanted to have the board reconsider that and hopefully approve it again. Again, the same amount as it's originally. Um, the next item is add venture, which is an automated external defi unit for the elementary and the high school. The amount is for $6,394. Those are all general fund expenditures. Under food service, we have kitchen equipment repairs. This is the second blanket of school year for $7,500. Under fund zero report classroom facilities. This is for a chiller repair, which I believe a contract has already been approved under. So this is just uh the associated purchase that goes along with that contract for you to $99,998. And then the next fund is our capital project which is our 070 fund.
063The first item is for the network upgrade for Neonet and the actual purchase order amount is 100,000. This also corresponds back to the contract that was previously discussed. The next item is for Delta Industrial Services project that we just discussed for $80,000. And then the last fund and item this evening is a student managed fund which is fund 200 for Cedar Fair Festival of Music. This is for the Coventry Middle School band and choir field trip for $8,76. And that concludes it. But that's a total of $445 $445,267 in request. >> Thank you. >> Um, let's go ahead and move if anybody has a motion >> on the constellation. what we have before I was going to the floor question. >> So move >> sorry go ahead. No, there on the A. Was there that
064train they went with that with that new uh >> I don't believe so. I think they're the same ones that we have. It's just a mineral. >> We uh we when we were doing our safety reviews, we learned that we had um some areas that when we closed them down for when youth uh when different activities are going on specifically at the elementary where we put the gates down, the AED was on the wrong side of the uh so we needed to get one where people if there was an emergency could actually use it. Um so that was what how these came about. >> Okay. Fair enough. And then now certificate that was for >> correct and it's for about $10,000. Hopefully we don't have >> Yeah. >> So the blanket POS are basically we
065allow that much and if we don't defend it then it goes back through. >> I hope so. But how much is each time that there's a snow, a heavy snow? Where is the cost then? >> It varies depends on how many times they come out and push and then how many trucks they bring. So it's a lot. >> Out of curiosity, the blanket counts whether This one specifically or other ones? Does the money reside in Coventry banks waiting to be dispersed upon receipt of invoice or does it get like a gift card? It gets given to them and they give us back. >> No, it stays with us. >> Okay. So any interest garnered off of that to say it's in house. >> Yes. >> Yeah. I feel like I constellation we picked them up.
066What did we have before constellation? >> Actually, we have constellation. We just it's a our contract um has come to an end and so it's a it's kind of a renewal, but we're getting actually better rate. So, >> any other questions? All right. Could you call the role please? >> Bowser. >> Yes. >> And Mr. >> Yes. >> The next um item temporary appropriation and certificate of estimated resour. It is recommended that the board approve the Summit County Budget Commission's official certificate of estimated resources for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 2026 and the fiscal year 27 temporary appropriations which shall govern the total appropriations by fund per exhibit T6. Okay. Is there a motion? >> Terry and I reviewed it already, but Terry, did you have the print out in case anybody else wants
067to see the appropriations? Well, let me Should I explain them? >> Okay. So, what this involves is actually for the beginning of next fiscal year. So, as a district, in order for us to spend any money, we have to establish a pro an appropriated amount by fund that then is approved by Summit County Board of Commission. Um, and it's kind of like an ongoing cycle. We have to have temporary appropriations in place before the fiscal year begins so we can, you know, pay payroll and and pay any invoices and so on and so forth. Um, but as the year progresses, those temporary appropriations become permanent appropriations, which you guys approve in the fall. there are any changes or adjustments, if there's changes to how much we're going to receive from our property taxes, whatever it
068may be, then we have to revise and update those appropriations. And so, it's just kind of this ongoing cycle and process that we do on a regular basis. So, what you're approving in this particular recommendation is next year's temporary appropriations start. the appropriations are based on the cert uh certification of estimated resources which we actually receive from the county. And so it kind of um like I said it's just an ongoing process where we you know maintain communications regarding where we stand with our funds, how much is spent, how much we expect to receive over the next year and um that's a necessary part of our spending and financial questions about that. >> All right, go ahead and call the roll, please. >> Mr. Hower, >> yes. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Mr. S. >> Yes.
069>> And Mr. >> Yes. And the last item and we know everybody um it is recommended that the board approve the financial forecast associated notes and authorize the submission to the state department of Ohio State Department of State Department as detailed in exhibit T8. So move. >> I'll second for a little summary. >> Yes. >> All right. So this evening, what you have in front of you, the first item is really just a board brief, which is this is what I'm going to walk through. Um, so let's set that up to the side for the second. I'll identify the other items for you. The next is the actual copy of our forecast and the numbers they are as they stand today. The green forecast is just a copy of October's report for you to have
070there you'd like. And then the last document, the official notes and assumptions outline that outline every line item within the forecast itself. That's about a 20 page document that will hopefully provide enough background and information regarding each item and the amounts that are within the forecast itself. So if anybody is interested or curious, they can go to these documents and understand why the numbers are what they are. uh but instead of grading that entire forecast and the notes to you uh I prepared a little brief summary of some of the key areas for us to look at. So if you have your forecast hand down handy and the summary that's probably be the best way for us to go. So uh I began with kind of a position of strength. You know at this point
071the district's financial outlook for the immediate future is very positive. Uh I I believe that we have maintained a very disciplined approach to expenditure spending and planning which has allowed us to get to this position. In particularly, one thing that I'd like to highlight was is the retirement of two of our debts, um, our house bill loans at the end of last fiscal year, which was just over $900,000 of debts that, uh, we retired, which I think contributes greatly to our current position and our future stability. This by doing that, uh, then all general fund debt is now off the books. The only remaining debt we have is the bond for the construction of the high school and that will be due or that will be finished in 2048. That's when I'm >> retire somebody
072the lottery. Um so uh I think at this point we have a very strong uh financial foundation and we're working very well through proactive management strategy. Uh some of the top fiscal indicators I've outlined for you in the summary sheet. The first one being the beginning balance of this school year. Um, at the end of fiscal year 25 last year, you may recall we had a lot of uncertainty regarding finances, like what were the legislative changes, how were they going to impact our district, were they going to take money back from us if we had too much in the bank, so on and so forth. There was so much going on, it was very chaotic and uncertain. And we made some significant adjustments in the way we approached u the management of our funds. For
073example, we established two funds actually be three, but um the most significant ones are the termination benefits fund, which is fund 035. And what we did there is we we put aside about $587,000 to make sure we had enough money to pay for upcoming uh retirement and contributions for those processes. Instead of that being a part of a general fund expenditure, it now has a dedicated fund to manage those costs. In addition to that, we set aside we established $1.9 million in the capital improvement projects fund, the 070 that we discussed a little bit earlier. Um, and that now become kind of a resource for us to do significant projects or repair needs that need to happen that are only really like one-time expenses, not ongoing expenses and repairs for big projects that come up
074and that need to need to happen. But the nice thing is it will not again uh impact the general fund those expenses. Those two have have helped us to establish our beginning balance for this fiscal year which was 10.5 million again. Um another top fiscal indicator is our projected operational growth in spending is well below um the projected growth with a 1.47. So this is operational growth as far as nonpersonal expenditures go. Uh I mentioned the general fund debt and us retiring our all our general fund debt at this point. And and when I say that I'm talking about long-term debt, not necessarily um the lease of copers, which is a fiveyear lease. That is technically debt, but that's not what I'm referring to. distinguish long term. Um this year's uh over under school year
07526 over under which is line six.010 on your forecast. That's a big line for us and for every school district because that is the line that tells you how good you're doing within a fiscal year. And so my goal as the treasurer is always to have a positive fiscal year. Even if the forecast looks great and strong and you have a positive balance, which you know there's a is really relatively new for us 500 schools. Um those are that's wonderful, but that is your that's your cash. That's what you depend on to function and operate. You want to still make sure within a school year within a fiscal year you're maintaining for your spending levels that they do not exceed the revenue for that. So I think you know our this year u is a
076as a is very positive with hopefully still at this point of projection projection. So we've only had six months of actual um data but at this point we're looking at a 1.9 million over under line. So that's that's that's great. And then the result of that is a fiscal year end balance of 12.1. Okay, any questions about that section and our strengths? All right, let's move forward. Um, some key findings. The revenue flip falling. Our our current stability is significantly jeopardized by a funding level imbalance by fiscal year 21 compounding pressures of inflation by the expiration of our $2.9 billion emergency levy may result in a very devastating downward trend of the dis district district's uh fiscal health. Okay. So increasing cost when talk about increasing costs we're looking at the personnel services line 3.010
077and line 3.020. 020. So that's your salary and wages along with the associated benefits, health care, retirement contributions, Medicaid, all those pots are wrapped up into those two lines. At this point in time, these two lines represent 72% of the district's total expenditures or total budget. The issue that we're facing when we say revenue cliff is that in fiscal year 29, if we do not renew our 2.9 emergency levy, it will drastically reduce the amount of funding we have to continue to afford our salary benefits. There's a there's literally like we're doing good, we're doing good, we're doing good, we drop and part of that is because the state itself requires us to put in the forecast the worst case scenario. So we have to identify the potential of not being able to review that
078levy so people can see and and realize and understand what the impact is going to be on us even for a half a year collection. So fiscal year 29 that'll be the first half we will we will lose at school year we'll lose half of your collection of that emergency levy which is really about 1.4 4 million, but it it compounds with other things, which is why the deficit is higher. As you move forward and you continue to lose that body, it grows the amount, thus reducing our urine back. Okay. So, on your handout, I have a couple of things. one. The first chart to the left is the fund balance for certification of appropriations. I've outlined for you what every those should be fed years and not should be 2026, 2027, 2028. Um, and
079the projected year end final balances with Ouch. And then the next chart just shows you really where we've been the last five years of actual annual change versus our projected annual change. And I think the key thing to note here is the difference in the revenue. Okay, next page. So, um, of course, our forecast is a great tool that we use and rely on often to help us make decisions regarding spending in the district. But it is it is a projected forecast. There are projections you know even this year it's it's with the changing in these the forecast is due now we have less information to make our final determinations on what the year ends look like but with that there you know are risks and uncertainties with us right now what I've outlined for
080you are those areas that I think are potentially the most impactful to the district right now. And the number one area has to be all the changes with the House bills legislation right now and how those changes will ultimately impact property taxes, the collection of those property taxes, and what districts in particularly Coventry Schools will or will not receive. So there's kind of a little summary of that all those put together. Um so there is revenue caps with House Bill 186 and House Bill 335. These laws now cap property tax roads at the rate of inflation. And so to explain it kind of best of my ability at this point. Um in 2023 our community went through a reappraiser and property taxes and property values skyrocket, right? They were very they went from reasonable to
081outrageous, right? Um overall the the percentage of increase valuation increase was around 35%. For our area well the inflationary cap at that time was about 13%. So since we were on something called 20 mil floor which we're very bottom level of an effective military what the rate of which we can collect revenue based on property tax or um when that growth from the property reappraisals took place we saw a a really good increase in what we gained as far as property tax revenue because we were on the 24th, right? Well, now that tax will be capped even if in 2026 when the next reappraisal happens, there is another 35% increase in property values in our community. We won't see that same level of revenue growth. can't anticipate that or expect it which we were um
082not that high but still uh we we have to stay at the c time but that should be let's say again it's 13%. So that difference in potential revenue we will not receive. Um the next house bill that will impact us is house bill 129. So recent changes to the 20 mil calculation will actually take commentary off the 20 mil floor. So we that's why we for us to go to the floor it took a very very long time for us to get to the floor because for a very long time those changes and fluctuation values the districts recognize or realize a lot of growth from that until we hit the floor because our millage rates were reduced so much over the years. we finally got there and that gave us that the little opportunity
083to gain realistically revenue. Well, now we won't have that anymore because of the House Bill 29 129. All right. So, what's going to happen is emergency levies, which we have two of them in our district, are not a part originally historically were never a part of the 20 mil floor calculation. So their millage rates were not included in that 20 mil for millage rate mill. Okay. Now with this new house bill they will be. So that actually takes us from 20 mills to 29.35 which basically means it's going to be a very long time before we ever get back to the pool again. So we can never count on new revenue growth the same step that we have the last time. What also happens now when you go off the floor is House Bill 920
084takes place which again is another way to reduce the effective rate of voted in property tax. So even if taxes go up, these house bills bring the effective rate down. So our district pretty much gets the same amount no matter what the effect is on. Yes. Okay. Any questions about that? I don't know that's a light you know it's not that okay so the next area um again I just point out which I think I've already discussed a lot is probably the rising healthc care premiums we have accounted for that somewhat in the forecast but the ability to predict what those will be in a year or two very uncertain at this point so that is an area of concern for us as well as the competitive cost of labor. Um, and making sure we
085have an ability to pay, you know, really high quality staff and through reasonable wages and so forth. And then lastly, the state funding validity of the fair school funding plan. So our budget at this point relies on the 27 and 29 state bianial budgets and the fact that at those point at those points in time we hope to see some adjustments for inflation factors and the inputs associated with that process. Uh again with legislative changes, the fair school funding plan, although it continues to be used and phased in as the funding formula for for student funding in the state of Ohio, what has happened recently is they did not update input factors. input factors are still based on the 2022 year instead of something more current which would have been 2025. Um now an interesting
086aspect of this for Coventry specifically is that Coventry is on the funding guarantee or guarantee funding. It's transitional aid. And the reason why we're on that funding is because when they went to the fair school funding formula or student funding in Ohio, there were some districts where it was not beneficial for them. Did not help them. We were one of them. It actually hurt us financially to move to this new formula model. So they put in place this transitional aid which is called as referred to as the guarantee to ensure that school districts did not lose money from uh that point in time the transition happened. So for us it was fiscal year 21 I think the year calendar year was 2020. So we our funding is still based on the 2020 20 calendar which
087is good and bad. One bad because it's 2026 and good because we're not going to go below that. We need the guaranteed funding to survive and operate. If anything at all should happen to that funding, we could potentially looking at closing doors. That's how heavily we rely on periods of funding at this point in time. Um there has been some talk about reducing the funding 5% 10% over the course of the next few years, but that has not resurfaced lately. Just wanted to bring it up the forecast and all these other little fun potential. So the chart up above know it's going to seem many backwards but is how the house fills what their current state is the projected loss of revenue that we will see due to the those changes that we believe will
088happen. Okay. So, how do we move forward? What are some recommendations and ideas? I've kind of outlined a few of them for you to consider. The first one, which I think is vitally important, is this spring, we need to make a decision on what we're going to do with the emergency that it is going to expire. Uh, do we put it back on the ballots? Another house bill, House Bill 96, basically eliminates emergency levies really the name per se. So it will now be called a fixed sum levy which I think people actually understand and appreciate a little more than term emergency levy but now will be recall now called a fixed sum levy. We can renew this levy for a maximum of five years. Uh prior to the House Bill 96, you could re
089put emergency levies in place up to 10 years. So that's no longer an option for us, but it can be removed for 5 years. There are some changes to the wording. The ballot language will be different. I I believe the procedures and process for the board to pass two resolutions to put it on the ballot. the fall uh is still the same. I am going to look into that and and make sure that we are prepared to meet the timelines and so forth. But I think that's a decision and a conversation that would be really important to have at our heart work session. Uh the next item is for us to continue to maintain our our very controlled spending for uh although difficult sometimes, you know, considering cost of utilities and how much those are
090going up and it's just everything these days just seems to be getting more and more expensive. But uh hopefully we'll be able to maintain our approachable spending level. And then strategic alignment I think always has to be a conversation and forefront of our minds. And what I mean by that is to make sure that we're always aligning our staffing levels with actual student enrollment and student need. And so that is something that a process that we put in place probably back in 2018 19 where we are constantly looking at the balance between how much personnel we have in place versus what our student numbers are and making sure that we are not overly staffed or understaffed based on what our where our students are at. But they That's something we have to continue to do
091which I think we have a really good system in place and I look forward to having conversations with administrators process. And then lastly, I just want to say that um you know, again, our our district is in a really stable and strong fiscal position. And I think that's a testament to the support of our community, dedication of our staff, um support of the board as we continue to move forward to maintain that responsible level of spending and planning. Uh I think it allows us to focus on what's really the most important in Coventry schools which is I believe the votes have been the last few years especially which is on developing the great quality programs of our students and uh opportunities for that to be successful educationally and um beyond. So, um, overall, I think
092it's a a positive forecast, but you know me, I'm always I'm always always always thinking about what what what but at least at this point in time, I think we're a little prepared. >> Any questions? the emergency potentially between placing on the battle. Uh we also have also talked about the guarantee funding and life guarantee funding repercussions is the guarantee funding reliance upon guarantee funding more or less 2.9 emergency It's a great question. Um, off the top of my head, I would say they're almost equal. >> But as we move forward, the guarantee funding increases. So as we move forward up and and the part of the reason for that is our state share decreases. So for example, this year I'm going talk general numbers, but this year, let's say it cost $8,000 to educate
093a student. We receive 1,400 from the state for that cost. In addition to that, we receive guarantee funding which is over 2,000 So it's providing more than what the the state formula provides for that student. So my thinking question was that you would really enjoy if the community saw investment of student population by passing bill or receive money on a be an investment in children. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Do >> you know approximate percentage of districts in Ohio that are guarante? >> I don't know off the top of my head. I will say that more and more districts are falling onto the guarantee. or some sort of guarantee. There's a couple of different guarantee models, I believe, but um their goal was for everyone to go to formula fund. It's just straight up your
094funded within the formula. Unfortunately, it just for some of us, it just doesn't work out. And it really falls back to the age issue we have in Coventry, which is wealth of your community on paper versus just one other item I wanted to highlight for you in case you question it or or want to know what's happening is um 3.0.0 which is our supplies and material line item for fiscal year 27. You will see that there is a significant bump of about $300,000 increase over this year's cost or or amount for that and that is because of the plan textbook adoptions and potential uh security system software stuff like that that we're have based on where we are in cyber I ask a question I probably asked before but forgot the answer to. >> Okay.
095>> So this is an actual results from fiscal year 24 to 25 purchase services. It bumped up by 24.0. I don't know. I have to go back to see what >> Yeah, >> just follow up. I'm curious about that because it looks like whatever happened carrying forward throughout the rest of the forecast, right? rest of the forecasted years are still at that elevated level. So I'm just curious what that is questions or comments. >> We didn't have a motion for it. Well, there's no other questions. >> Yes. >> Financial recommendations, right? >> F. Yes. >> Okay. Time for recommendation. >> Yeah, that's up to me. >> Okay. So, board of education recommendations. Item one, resolution grade three testing paper and administration. It's recommended board approved the resolution allowing grade three Ohio State testing to be
096administered exam paper format. Okay. >> Questions about that. >> Why, George? >> Yeah. >> Um I rarely give the legislature a pat on the back, but in 2018, this was one we'd give them pat on the back for. Um what it does is it eliminates the technology issue and the testing. Uh so prior to 2018, we were putting these young learners on, you know, different devices and we felt as educators that they're focused more on typing and manipulating the computer than they are on actually assessing what they know. Um so everywhere I've been since 2018, u this has just been a fantastic idea. Um thank pat on the back of the legislature for listening and giving us this option. Please call the roll please. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mrs. P. >> Yes.
097And >> yes. >> Okay. We are going to go into a brief the executive session and I will make a motion to bill executive session four. Make sure I got the right one here. Um preparing for conducting reviewing negotiation for bargaining sessions with employees. Sounds like the one second. >> I All right. All the roll please >> yes. >> Mr. Hostler. >> Yes. Not expect any action after our executive session. So step back a
