the fiscal year, which will be fiscal year 26. You're authorizing me to pay all debts for the school district. Establish a service fund for the board of $7,000. Uh enable or allow me to invest funds and to move money as necessary within um each each account. authorized me to do a request of local taxes and um authorized to transfer and advance funds from fund to fund. I need a motion to approve the treasur's recommendations that we can have discussion if needed. >> So moved second. >> Any discussion questions for Mrs. Turtle? >> Mr. Bman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Napier. >> Yes. >> Mr. Folk. >> Yes. Mrs. Linderman. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Winger. >> Yes. >> All right. Number nine, our superintendent recommendations. >> Yes. The same here as as Mr. Darnold said, these aren't
usual approvals or annual approvals, but uh wanted to establish the date, time, and place for our regular board of education meetings. Uh so please note there the regular meetings of uh the board of education are held on the second Tuesday of the month. at 5:30 p.m. Also, it allows um for or also sets the meeting compensation for board members at a maximum rate allowed by law up to 14 meetings per year at 125 per meeting. um superintendent district purchasing agent. You can also see that establishes uh the district's official newspaper which will be Malbert News and Knox Pages to give 24-hour notice to public um to the public for special board meetings. Also annual memberships to various community foundations and agencies there as well. Um and then also designate then the superintendent take employment actions
and initiate legal action on behalf of the board that uh to protect its legal interest. >> Okay. I would entertain a motion to approve the superintendent's recommendations. So >> second >> questions for Mr. Chapman. >> Mrs. Winger. Yes. >> Mr. Nier. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bman. >> Yes. >> Mr. B. >> Yes. Mrs. Lend. >> Yes. >> Okay. In number 10, I need a motion to adjourn our organizational meeting. >> So move. >> Mr. Co. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bman. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Linderman. >> Yes. >> M. Napier. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Mrs. Winger. Yes. >> Okay. Go ahead and turn that meeting over. flip that page and we will move into our um regular board meeting and we will start out with our pledge of allegiance. You want to join me? So, we
will um have a call to order for our first regular board meeting of 2026 here on Tuesday, January 13th. Ready for roll call. Mr. Bowman >> here. >> Mr. F >> here. >> Mrs. Lindamman >> here. >> Mr. Napier >> here. >> Mrs. Winger here have all kinds of meetings and all the things tonight here. Um, we're going to move into number three. I need a motion to adop adopt the agenda for our regular board meeting. >> So move. >> Second. >> Mr. Bowman. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Winger. Yes. >> Mr. F. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Lindamman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Napier. >> Yes. >> Okay. And number four, I need a motion for the approval of the minutes from our special board meeting that was held on December 9th of 2025. >> So move.
>> Second. >> Yeah. >> Mr. Pul, >> yes. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Mr. Bman, >> yes. >> Mrs. Lindamman, >> yes. >> Mrs. Winger, >> yes. >> Number five on our agenda is public participation. I don't believe we have any >> any this evening. So, we're going to move into number six with which is our treasures report. Um the big one is that I will be asking for approval of the tax budget which is due to the county auditor by the 15th of this month. So, I'll be submitting it first thing tomorrow morning. Um the tax budget um plays an particularly important role this year, especially with all the house bills that have come into play where the county budget commission will have more um more authority of our uh appropriations and what
we actually uh spend and generate for revenue within our school district. Uh I did get the preliminary um tax budget from the county auditor and I and I gave you a copy of that within here. Um as of right now uh there she does not have her millage pulled back. um when I have plugged everything into the forecast and when I do the property tax reform, I don't want to call it the magic button, but there's a whole program within there that gives you simulations of what our millillage will be. Um, starting next year with all of the property tax reforms um that's taken place, uh, we will no longer be on the 20 mil floor. We'll actually be below. We'll drop down to 18.18 mills instead of 20 ms. Um, the biggest contributor to
this um is all of our levies. We have four fixed sum levies and now those levies are rolled into our actual millage calculation which brings us off of the floor. So, uh, we'll be dropping from the 20 to 18 and within those mills, um, we could potentially see a loss of, uh, 886,000 a year with the drop of those mills alone. Um, and that would start next school year. And then that that does not include the piggy back of the homestead which is 117. So when you put those together, it's almost a million dollars of property tax revenue that this district will be losing. Uh I do have some of that reflected within my tax budget. Um we have to report every fund now as well where before we were always just really committed to
uh submit general fund and then all of our levies which is the bond uh our permanent improvement and then our 034 which is a half a mill. It's called classroom maintenance and which a lot of meal or maintenance um expenses come out of that fund alone. Uh so I'm reporting all of those as normal but I'm reporting every fund within the school now down to our grants. So all of that is projected into my tax budget as well. So when I give when I present the tax budget when I send it tomorrow uh I am also submitting my forecast to them so they can see uh what the roll back and millillage is doing to our district and >> [clears throat] >> um almost like a little PowerPoint presentation that gives some more narrative of
what it's going to do to our district and to our students. Uh the main thing that I will say that's disturbing to me is that this is hurting our students more than anything. Um we're here to provide for them, give them the best education, give them everything that they need to help succeed and this is really going to to hurt our district in a big way. Um so the tax budget I have uh also uh then I did give you and I sent it all out into my quarterly newsletter as well explanation of every house bill that took effect um how it's going to affect us and how some of the steps that we can take moving forward. Uh it was I was I will say that I was really happy that um I got
a lot of feedback from staff members. Uh, you know, you're never really sure if they read your newsletter or not, but I was pleasantly surprised that I got more than 50 emails from staff members thanking me and um to put it in terms that they understood >> and to give them a breakdown of this is how it's affecting Frederick, just us alone instead of a broad spectrum. Um, that was a little bit of an eye opener to me as well. Uh yeah, so I was thankful for that. But the expenditures on to my financial report, uh my the expenditures, we had a lot of um large expenditures this month. Uh I won't go over all of them. The one of them is the ESC speech and OT that is quarterly. They build that every three
months. the Mid Ohio ESC, the RBT, the BCBA, and the admin services. BCBA is for the whole year along with the admin services. The RBT is both monthly, and that is right around 20,000 a month that we pay for them. Uh, and then the other items that I have on my agenda is uh amendments to appropriations and resources. Uh, as you could see from 516 all the way down to 590, those are our grants. We did get a little additional revenue for our title funds. Those are our special ed funds. The 516, uh, they did take away $1,700. So, I have to adjust those grants. Um, and then those will also be have to be approved by the county auditor and now the budget commission as well. Um, and that is everything that I have.
>> Okay. I will entertain a motion to approve and then we can have some discussion. >> So move >> second. >> Um during board prep, one of the questions that I had asked Heather was um how many it is about Frederick Town. That's what we need to be focused on, right? But as a as a whole for our state. So, of the schools that were on the 20 mil floor prior to these House bills, about 60% >> correct, >> will drop under. So, we're not alone >> in that. I think that's probably not a bad thing when it comes to advocacy, but >> it isn't. But um it's also it's it's scary and the the fact that the 20 mil 4 is Ohio constitutional law and at this point we're breaking the constitutional law by
letting schools drop below the 20 mil floor and the the mills These are voted levies, voted mills that the residents of Frederick Town voted >> that they support this school district. And for those to be taken away from our school district, that these residents voted to support that because they believe in our school, those are being taken away. And that goes along with every school district. But um voters, those are it's just being like totally disregarded and abolished out of the monies that can be filtered back to the school. And it's going to force schools to go into other avenues to search for money to get us out of the hole that the property tax reform is pushing us into. Right. You had also shared that you and a couple other treasurers are at least
have it on your radar, correct? To attend. >> Um the the tax budget will be going, like I said, I have to have it to the county auditor by 15th and then they will vote on it on the 20th of January from moving here on out. Me and two other county treasurers plan on tending every budget commission meeting held here on out. Um I feel we well all of us feel that it's very important that we make our presence known that we are we're here to support our district. Um no more surprises. I how I said in the last one is that I I truly believe in the support the piggyback and we wouldn't have been opposed to it if there would have been open communication about it. So from Yeah, at least two of
us or all three of us are going to be attending those meetings here on out. So we our presence will be there. >> So my understanding is that we just have to prove to another level. >> Correct. >> And so >> we have to tell our story. This is what this money is used for. >> This is why we need this revenue. This is what these are expenditures are for. So, it's putting a lot of pressure on that budget commission as well. >> Absolutely. Um, the three people, so it would be the county auditor, the commissioner, and then the county prosecutor. Uh, and from what I've heard, and I don't know if this is true or not, but a lot of times the prosecutor does not attend, and it's truly a conflict of interest because
they are the representatives of every school district. So that is a conflict of interest. So it' be almost us appealing our story to to them explaining and there why we need this. But um there have been other school districts that have already been to the budget commission and pled and and like gave their their story, their testimony and some have brought like I don't want to say like books and books but it really was like all the history that you can absolutely put in front of them. They have really put it out there for them to see. and um us of Knox County were not afraid to do the same thing. >> Who's the commissioner representative? >> It would be Drenda. >> Drenda, it'd be the president of the commissioners. >> Oh, okay. >> Yeah.
>> I guess I just want to make it perfectly clear. I mean, Christine alluded to it. You said it that piggyback was done by the commissioners, not by the state. I mean, >> correct. It it was a county by county. >> You did that without asking a single treasurer >> for teams. >> We actually uh we found out from it by the career center treasurer. She sent an email out. Um she was on no pages that morning and seen it and then sent us all the link and that's how we found out. >> Yeah. I just want to make that clear anybody that they made that decision >> correct >> on their own without >> without without consulting the districts. Yes. >> And that's an annual. They have to vote every like by October 31st
or something like that. >> Um not saying that it can't, but it would be really hard >> to get rid of it once it's in place. They can vote no next year. I really, like I said, it would be really hard to tell the senior citizens, you got it this year, but next year you're going to be taxed on it again. >> It'd be really hard to do that. >> I will be transparent. I do have it in my forecast every year. >> Just if it doesn't happen, that's that's fantastic. >> Like I said, I don't see it going away once it's there. But there's the other owner occupancy one that they can also correct. They could do both. >> They could do both, but they only chose to do the homestead as of right
now. >> As far as I know, there's been no talk of the owner occupancy. >> I think you shared good news though about our report card. >> I did. >> We got some money for >> I can share good news. >> You can even though it's not in your report, but yeah, it was good news >> actually. Well, actually, Heather shared it with me. received notification that we will receive a credit of 80,000 uh based upon our most recent state report card and our performance on that. So um if you ask me the formula for that I would not be able to tell you what that is at this time but uh um but just really that credit goes out to our students and our staff administrators all the hard work they put in. So
that's a great reflection on them and a credit to them. >> Yeah. I was happy to tell Gary that one. I was like, I do have some good news in light of all the bad. I do have this that um >> we did so well on the report card that we got an additional 80,000. So that was pretty fantastic to see. >> Yeah, we'll take that. >> Absolutely. >> Add another zero to that. the 886,000 right that you were that you're like estimating is going to be the loss based on all the property tax reform. Um does that are you because I know the state is like reimburing for some >> they're saying close to >> does that include the what we're maybe expecting the state to reimburse or not at all? >> This is
so confusing. I'm I'm not going to lie. Okay, so the first 886,000 they're calling it a It goes back to 2023 because remember a while ago I said that these could be a retro effect. Our first $886,000 deduction is a retro. It is from 2023. So that credit then goes back to the taxpayers and then the state is supposed to reimburse the district back that 886,000. Don't ask me if I think that's really going to happen [clears throat] because in my thought if Frederick count is 886,000 what's Mount Vernon what's in Tangi what's Dayton and all of those are going to get reimbursed back I don't know where that money will be coming from but the 886,000 is supposed to go back to each taxpayer within Frederick County and each school district then has a
different credit amount. Some is all the way through, I mean every single year and some is just for that one one year. So taxpayers could see a credit one time and then that next tax bill their bill is going to go back up because the credit's gone. It depends on if you're on the floor or not. And since we're not we don't get we got that one tax credit >> and the tax credit like the bills that were or the because you can see your statement I think on the auditor's site right now >> you can >> as a property owner >> and it's not reflected the first half like >> it is not reflected the first half the credit will come on the second half >> right because they're suggesting only pay your first
half of this right >> oh yeah I've I've told the majority of staff that Um, if you're one to pay your tax bill in full, please don't. Um, some counties have said if you do pay it in full, they will reimburse you back. Other counties have they're not saying they will do that. >> Um, so if you just kind of hold off and wait, do pay your first half and then wait and see if you get the if there's a credit, then pay your second half. And that will even be confusing because your first half will be a normal tax bill and then the second half you will get the full credit which would have been one year. So your tax bill is going to be lower. So say if you get a $100 credit
your tax bill is going to be $100 less then that next year if there's another tax credit that $100 is going to be split between the two halves. So, your tax bill is going to go back up and then it could keep creeping back up. Um, and then it gets even a little bit more complicated because they set caps on what percent the taxes can be raised. So, say Knox County goes through, which we are in an update in 2026, and it's 20%. The cap is set at 13.03. So, we can't go past 1303, but no matter what, the taxes are still going to go up. It's just capped. And then the cap lowers every single year. So, it's set at 1303 and then it's like 9.5 and then eight and then it goes all
the way down to like I believe like 8.18 is lowest. But for the next four years, the caps have been set by they call it the GDP or or inflation. So, no matter what the percent is, it's going to stop at that 13%. It gets a little muddy when you start into it. >> I just thought of this. >> Yeah. >> What about the guarantee? >> The guarantee is state aid. >> Now, we will go on to the guarantee next school year. >> Okay. So, that's still like that. Not that they didn't do anything that would change >> as of right now. Knock on wood. They have not touched that as of yet. The only part that will that could change State aid of course is our valuations. So they go by your three previous
years. So when they go back, you know, you're going to have your 40% that because that's what Frederick Town went through was a total of 40. And then it's going to go a little bit higher, just a little bit higher, but not as much. But you're but those valuations will affect state aid as well. But starting next year, we will go on the guarantee. >> Is this in our course handbook that we can have for our students to learn? So they like, "Oh, my laptop." >> Well, the good news is that the the state saying they have that money to reimburse everybody. They're the same people that handle the science of reading. So well, >> correct. Yes. And our deduction for science of reading was a little over 5,000. >> Yeah. That was that was
a nice low surprise on my state aid where the state did reimburse for science of reading to every school district and then they spent too much so they took it back um away from the school districts because they overpaid for science breeding. >> Yeah. >> And I thought the pot like this there's like a what's the $411 million pot there's >> the rainy day fund. Well, no. I thought that that was like the >> It's from the state tax holiday, right, that they did on that they do >> that they were gonna like use to kind of help with some of this gap. But when you do the math on that, like you think how many schools there are. >> That's >> and you think about the size of our district, the 886 like it's
that that 411 is not going to go very far. >> That's the reason I said do I think I will really get the full 886,000. I I will be shocked if we get the full 886,000. I I just >> moneywise I don't know how that's going to be really possible. >> I know that was a lot thrown at [clears throat] you. >> Thank you for everything. >> I mean, I'm being dead serious because >> this is it's a lot, but thank you for explaining things in a way that >> Oh, you're welcome. understand and put some context to it. >> Try to put it in my own words like how Yeah, I always wrong or right, I run it by my husband and daughter and if they understand it, >> it's a win >> because
usually they just get the glaz. >> They probably run, they see it, they're like, "She's got her computer. >> Talk about the forecast. >> She's not talking about the weather. Okay. Any any other questions at the moment? They always come up, right? But okay, then I would say we're ready for roll call. >> Mr. Bman, >> yes. >> Mr. Napier, >> yes. >> Mr. F. Yes. >> Mrs. Lindamman. Yes. >> Mrs. Winger. >> Yes. Thank you. >> Okay. Number nine, superintendent's consent agenda. Good evening everyone. As you know or maybe you don't know but January is school board appreciation month too. Sorry. >> And on behalf of our students, staff and community, thank you to the board of ed for your steadfast leadership and service. Your commitment of time, a lot of time, thoughtful decision-
making and willingness to navigate complex challenges ensures that we remain focused on what matters most. and that's student learning, safety, and our opportunities that we provide for our students. We're grateful for your vision, your partnership, your dedication to the continued growth and success of our district. Thank you for how you serve with passion, care, and integrity. Thank you. >> With that being said, uh other items that I do have, we did share the enrollment update with you again. [snorts] Um, and if I could draw your attention to the January or be the December number, it's 12 uh headcount would be 1,210 students. Um, and we finished the year at 1219 last year. That number is creeping up, which we projected to be have a lesser enrollment than we do right now. Um, so can't quite
explain it all, but just wanted to call attention to that. That also translates um you know into the the forecast there that that we'll be talking about as we ongoing conversations with the forecast. So just want to call that that number out there as well. Um I need to mention as as Mrs. Linderman alluded to uh yesterday with the the reunification and I know Mr. Bellman, Mr. you were there too. May have comments on this as well, but what a display of um you you say this with some measure because of the event surrounding it um and the reason why. But uh the display there of of collaboration with our law enforcement in Knox County and first responders as well as our our county schools and Mount Vernon City Schools was truly uh just incredible,
impressive. Uh coming together take care of of our kids and our community. So, I just wanted to call that out and Mr. Bellman, Mr. Napier, you were there and witnessed that, too. Any comments on that as well? >> Yeah, Jordan was there. Um, I know Mr. Caputo was there. Um, you know, so for the four of us, you know, you you were there being involved in that. I just I'm grateful that we live in Knox County. I thought um the collaboration like you've already, you know, mentioned um was tremendous. Um and I'm glad we've drilled it. You know, yes, yesterday was the real thing. Um and I think all of those drills um have have really helped. And what I love is that, you know, Amy and JT are so open to, you know, feedback
on how we can improve it. Um and it's just an ongoing thing that we continuously try to improve. So um grateful for them and their leadership um as we move forward. >> Absolutely. And I agree with Mr. Bowman. Um yesterday I was thankful grateful to live in Knox County and to see how the different schools came together to take care of one another. And then watching not just parts of the reunification team and everybody being willing to do whatever, but where you have somebody like how many people I handed off to Mr. Chapman to take out this um Bill Cedar was down there doing his thing. Um the two principal, I can't remember their names, but >> Mr. M. >> Yeah. Middle school and high school at Mount Vernon as well as [clears throat] Andrew
Thompson was there. just helping. So, um, it was a boots on the ground and I'll be honest with you when I sit there and I think about, oh boy, we've got somewhere between anywhere like numbers were kicked around around a thousand kids, let's say, we reunified them with their parents in just about two hours. It was incredible. So >> yeah, from the time we start really started the process, I forgot that >> these kids have been sitting in these classrooms and that and get on a bus and travel 20 minutes or they're, you know, especially the littles that, >> hey, does anybody have to go to the bathroom? I can imagine what that was like. So there was some was a lot of time in between there and that, but it was it was handled.
Our first responders was handled excellently. Thank you. >> Thanks for >> just need to call that out. >> Absolutely. >> Uh my last then uh update that I would have was a reminder there and you've already seen the the received the invite on the ribbon cutting for the engineering manufacturing academy. That will be Friday, January 30th. It like start at 10:00 a.m. Um also been have been asked even if you know somebody that you would like to like please do or someone something community is more than welcome to be there uh even though they may not have received the the RSVP or the invitation RSVP and if you'd like me to forward that on to someone else we'd be happy to do that as well so just wanted to call that one out but looking
forward to that a lot of planning here going into it um but that's coming around here real soon >> as far as consent agenda is concerned Um a few items here to go through. The first one would be a motion to approve the district calendar for 2627. Um I've given you each of you a hard copy there as well I think in front of you. But just to call out a few things on that calendar. And also I want to thank Teresa and Sharon. Uh they've done a lot of work behind the scenes as far as surveying their staff uh their people and providing a lot of good feedback here. I appreciate their collaboration on that too. Um they obviously they they bring it bring up great ideas and it's like oh yeah I didn't
think of that and so that's very helpful and I appreciate that. Um but as far as the first day for students is Thursday, August 20th. So it would be almost starting a week later. Uh we would still go with the two-hour early release dismissal. I'm sorry. 2-hour early dismissal on Friday, September 11th. That's what the tomato show there that I think is going over big with our community, with our students and staff. Um, we did schedule a professional development day for Monday, September 28th. As last year, fall break would be Friday, October 23rd and Monday, October 26th. Thanksgiving, same time. There will be Wednesday through Monday, November 25 through November 30th. Winter break is Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1, 2027. The Monday of that would be January 4th would be a professional development
day. January 5th, Tuesday, students would return on that. So, um, and then there I have it. Uh, spring break, uh, would be Friday, March 19th through the 26th. Good Friday there is that March 26th. So that that would be included in that spring break. Last day for students uh and graduation would be Friday, May 21 of 2027. The other thing too to note is this for the for the the start date, end date, your Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break mirrors the career center as well. coordinating that almost to the day as far as the calendars are concerned. So again, thank you for your work on this one and giving us that. As far as item B, uh we would have the 2026 27 course handbook. I know Mr. Shoemaker is not here right now, but
he did put quite a bit in there as specific to the handbook within his board report that you received on Friday. Also a motion to approve the minimum wage uh for the state from 10 $10 an hour. That's effective January 1 of 26. Uh we also have the class of 2026 also as Mrs. London mentioned to graduate on May 15, 2026 pending completion of all requirements. And then as as Mrs. Darnold alluded to there is an amended contract for central Ohio behavior consulting uh for additional 27,500. We have our OSBA annual membership for this um be this upcoming year. So we can change that to 20. Oh no it is 26. >> It is 26 down here. Number 27 motion to approve theou or memorandum of understanding between the board and fea um regarding parent
teacher conference scheduling conflicts. The board shall compensate at a tutor rate of $30 per hour and we have 10 teachers that will be impacted by that for one hour. uh and that was due to the amount of uh the conferences that they had on back in the fall there uh and the time they spent with our students. Item H is your uh classroom field trip chaperone volunteers for 2526 school year and then also uh parent chaperones for the 8th grade Washington DC trip in May of 26. We have one dock day to approve and then supplemental contracts for uh coaches and advisors and that is specific to we would have wrestling and then instrumental music. That's all I have. >> Okay. So, a motion to approve and I'm sorry I got excited and flipped my
page but obviously the superintendent's report was eight. He did that and then we're going to do a motion to approve the superintendent's consent agenda. So move. >> Any questions, comments for Mr. Chapman. >> This is why life goes so fast as we're approving, you know, years out of stuff. >> Hey, real quick. Um, and I may have missed it, but in the course handbook, did they make any of those changes that Mr. Shoemaker had sent out to us? No, they have not. He has not addressed that. >> Okay. I didn't think I saw that, but >> curious. >> There'll be more conversations on >> Yeah. >> There's a lot of work to do. >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yep. Okay. >> Just curious. Thank you. >> Is that the I'm sorry. Is that
the grading? >> Yeah, it was val discussion. >> Okay. >> Number Okay. He's done a lot of work time on all that >> bobbling things around in his mind I think too >> with his and with his leadership team. >> Yeah. >> On the line. >> Okay. I think we're ready for roll. Mr. Vapier. [clears throat] >> Yes. >> Mrs. Winger. Yes. >> Mr. Bowman. >> Yes. >> Mr. F. Yes. >> Mrs. Lindamman. >> Yes. >> Okay. Moving into committee reports. Um I'm going to kick off the first two and Sorry, but I do have some things for you because I actually had the way meetings fell, I had two career center meetings and two FCF meetings after our last meeting. So, um attended the career center meeting on December 11th. Just some highlights from
that. Um they they did have three board members and some administrators um attend a tour at the Delaware County Career Center. It feels like this is this meeting has been forever ago. So, um, which the Delaware County Career Center has about 1,700, [clears throat] um, students, and they're in the process of a $ 38 million expansion, um, that'll be focusing on healthcare, uh, a 55,000 square foot addition. Kind of crazy to think, but also, you know, such a a need for healthcare um, workforce. um the ESC during that meeting they reported out that the ESC will be moving to the Woodward by the end of this month here in January and that'll allow for some additional space um at the career center for to shift some admin around and open up some other classrooms etc.
Um successful food for the hungry drive out of the the career center. Um and then they also the board did approve a contract um with I think it's Dickinson, right? LLC, can't read my own writing. Um, which is really a kind of a consultant to help with a capital budget um request application that they're going to um go after to help with some funding for some capital projects um that they that they have um kind of on their radar at the peer center. Um highlights from just this last Thursday, January um 8 meeting was, you know, similar to our meeting, organizational meeting. Um Tracy reported out a lot of information about similar things that um Heather reported that treasures are just full of all kinds of positive information. >> Sorry Heather and Tracy. Um and
there was a lot of discussion around these um really three capital improvements down there. One is the roof which is completed moving into culinary um and then a parking lot expansion. um and they're working with Shore um architects and um at the meeting actually Paul Miller was there um representing Shore and kind of did a deeper dive um explaining to the board what um that contract would in like if they approved the contract what that those services would um look like. So it's kind of interesting because we're kind of both going through similar just you know things. as I'm sure lots of districts are, but um in looking at some of these capital improvements so that there was a lot of their meeting was um around around that they um also approved the t tax
budget. Um and then they have two upcoming outofstate ROC drills that their students will be attending. So those are some highlights from the last two most recent career center meetings that I was at. Okay, flipping over. Don't be scared by the the things here on this page. So, I'm just going to combine the FCF meetings. Um, one, they actually were on the same days, the 11th of December and January 8th. Um, so some highlights. The 43019 magazine is off to the printer and should be arriving in um 43019 area code folks' mailboxes midFebruary. Um if you've not heard and this will be coming out um in the 43019 the the village I believe recognized um Chief Tracy last Friday um he is going to be retiring or is retired I should say I think as
of already and Jay Schffer say that right >> um is going to be his replacement and from my understanding that's going to be amazing. Um Chief Tracy um has just done a fabulous job um in Frederick Town. We've been very fortunate um to have him personally fortunate because he also serves as a school board member in Sedberg. So I feel like he has a really good understanding of of that um selfishly. I think that's amazing. Um and so just appreciate appreciate him and his um time here in Frederick Town. I think his leadership and kind of set the bar on what um Frederick Town um needs to look for for there. So I'm sure that um Jay will do a great job. We look forward to getting to meet him. And I've not met Jay,
at least that I aware of in uniform. I have not met him. So, um the park district um is partnering with FCDF. We approved um $1,000 in our budget to put towards the um firework display that will, you know, this is the 250th birthday of our um independence. And so there's going to be, I think, a lot of things um through this through the year um here in the community that we'll be celebrating wi with that. It just so happens that tomato show Friday, that day that Mr. Chapman mentioned on our calendar, that's the 25th anniversary of 911. Um so I I'm not sure if if Tomato Show has decided or not, but I think we'll just have a very patriotic I think 2026. Not that we don't already, but I think there'll be an
extra emphasis on that. Um the park district is looking for townships are are chipping in. Um there's a little bit of a premium on fireworks because the fourth falls on a Saturday. It's the birthday and all the things. So um I know Jim and team are trying to make sure that we're able to make that event extra special. Um and that may come with some additional [clears throat] funds um being needed. Uh we will be having FCDF will be having um our second membership annual dinner on Thursday, February 26th at 6 PM. Invites are heading out into the mail this week. Um we're going to be celebrating with some awards and just a meal um to kind of talk about the impact of the organization. Uh Mr. Chapman at not this last meeting but the
December meeting was able to share um with our business partners the Battel video. kind of gave them a a glimpse of that and we've been talking a lot about that in a lot of different meetings, but you know, specifically FCDF, that's it's an economic development organization. And so, it was really kind of cool to be able to show that video. Um, you know, ADF typically attends that meeting and so really excited for um everybody actually here coming up the end of the month to be able to see that. Um Sam Filkins from ADF did um officially announce I think you probably all saw um a while back a few months back Carol from the chamber has retired. She had been with the Knox County Chamber for I think 30ish if not more years. Debbie Rebels
is in the interim CEO position or resident CEO position and they are they formed a committee and kind of trying to decide what that looks like and um what that hiring job description etc will will look like. We do have some great um Frederick town representation on that chamber board and specifically even on the executive um board. Don Bagel serves on that. So, I feel like that's good. So, we can make sure we have good Frederick Town representation. I think that's the end of my page for FCDF. Sorry, that was like four meetings and we'll move on to >> work. >> Our meeting got cancelled in December. So, >> well, of course, >> I [laughter] don't have anything for you. >> Hey, great. It's okay. I set up enough time next week. So, yeah, that
worked out well. Uh, okay. Policy. You guys are >> on a hiatus still too. A little bit till till spring. >> Till spring. >> Shelly. Anything from Believe It or Not? Not really. >> I know. She like stole all like it's all about Heather's thunder down there. >> No. No. It's all good. I've been talking about it too for so long. It's nice to have a break. But >> it is. >> Yeah. I think that I think the general assembly did reconvene and have they have sessions scheduled like later this month in February. So I'm sure there will be more to come. But >> yeah, I saw something on Senate Bill 19. Maybe Andrew Brener is the sponsor of it. has to do with math and proficiency in math and >> math improvement plans >>
improvement plans and >> tutors and money. So, lots to come. I'm sure >> there's always money. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Okay. So, finance, I think, you know, we've obviously chatted quite a bit about that. We have anything else to add except for maybe >> we're going to be talking finance in the work session. >> Yes. Yes. Any other board member reports? Share. All right. I think we're over here to the left corner. Administrative reports. Mr. Brown, you want to this off since you're front row J there. >> That's fine. >> Okay. >> Uh so just kind of easing back into into the into everything after break there. Um so we had a good uh staff had a good PD day there on the 5th I think it was. Uh had a little bit of
time to work uh together in groups and then they had some AI training. Uh see some kind of options there for them to utilize in the classroom. uh in a presentation there Ohio worked with us worked with the teachers on uh some academic focus to help us uh you know continue to always look at different ways and improvements in those areas. Uh couple things coming up tomorrow night uh is the Knox County Spelling Behind Mount Vernon the high school auditorium uh 7:00. Uh so that was so that's fifth, sixth, seventh and eth. Um so sixth grader there's Cross Atkins, seventh grade uh Sophia Workman, eighth grade Carson Atkins and fifth grade Parker Fern will be there. So those four will be representing Frederick Thomas tomorrow night. So that's always exciting. >> And the other thing
coming up, uh talent shows on the on the 23rd. NHS organizes that. Yes. Uh, so they're in the process of getting the axe together for all that and it's pretty sure it's open K12 again this year. So you get a wide range of of those. Uh, I think it's a 6:30 I believe on that the 23rd. So and I had in my board of DC trip I I don't remember when the last time I told you guys. Uh, so we had more kids sign up than could sit on one bus. So that's why we we added a second bus so everybody would have that opportunity to go. Uh and then obviously to fill the bus we opened it up to the parent chaps as well. Uh so that'll help allev that'll help with the grouping.
We'll have more eyes on the kids and give everybody that opportunity to go. So looking forward to that. Any questions? Middle school >> with the who let the dogs out just went through my brain from last year's talent show already. That tap routine. Yeah. >> Oh my. So fun. >> Yeah, it should be fun. >> And I think a Michael Jackson song maybe. >> Yeah. >> So fun. >> Do you guys remember? Did you guys all participate in the talent show as a kid? >> Did you? >> I think I tried to sing but couldn't sing. Oh, I just figured. Okay. Anyways, sorry. Mr. Caputo, did you participate in a talent show as a kid? >> I did. I No, I did not. >> Okay. >> Thank you, Mr. [laughter] >> Way [clears throat] off
of board members presenting it. Um, elementary wise, um, getting back into the groove of things, you see that we've we're doing town hall meetings. Those are really the kind of important events that take place within the elementary to kind of get kids uh, reaclimated to the school year after a break and doing, you know, a lot of unstructured things. Those have been doing really well with those [clears throat] and basically we're outlining expectations for kids with those town halls those town hall meetings. Um started [snorts] to gather some um kindergarten registration information. We have not even set the date yet or posted for it. We have um Lori and I through student services there's eight students that we've identified that are coming but was eight additional schools with a total of 16 so far that
we have registered. I do want to make sure I indicate that we have eight students that will be coming through student services. So that's a pretty good number right off the bat. Okay. Um and we haven't advertised yet. So, we will be getting advertisements out. We're meeting with the kindergarten staff, a couple kind teachers, and myself and Britney Barry to kind of go over some of the logistics of kindergarten screening and to relook at kind of some u new procedures we might be looking at for the fall to make it a little bit more amiable to the kids coming into the building. Um, and addressing the needs of the kids, focusing on the needs of the kids. Um, been working Ohio ESC and the Max Educational Service Center on a variety of things. This kind
of crosses over both of my current roles right now, but focusing on the elementary. We'll be getting some help from middle ESC. I'm getting ready to administer our um our policy in case that we're going to be assessing in second grade and fourth grade with the identify students. Um that it's been really good to work with as we kind of change from having our own gifted uh instructor to working with um outside agencies helping to provide that service for us. January 5th, I'll kind of piggy back on what Adam said. We had I thought it was a very good day to get together with the staff. Um the first half of the day, um staff ended up working with me um on a variety of things. She had a pretty full agenda and also working
with Mid Ohio ESC to make sure there was a clear understanding of how we're delivering gifted services at the elementary currently. And Hannah did an excellent job of providing some professional development regarding um stressors that we might experience, kids might experience and strategies that might use kids within the classroom. And that was our afternoon [clears throat] student services wise. I'll just flip right to that. Um, we have I do have a couple dates set for my intervention specialist to meet with us this J meet with me this January to go over some nuts and bolts things and get ready for some things that are going to be changing uh procedurally at the state level starting next year uh with the documentation we use. I'm also going to be meeting uh with our preschool administrative, my
preschool counterparts in early February so we start getting ready to transition um kids coming to school for kindergarten and we have the issue that we're really starting to look at for staffing for next year. So I'll keep everybody in the loop with that. But we always are looking for speech therapists. I would like to have speech therapists for more than one school year. I'd like to have our I don't see that happening in the near future. So, um, worked with Lori about this. It's already posted through the district and working with eight other contract agencies. Last year, I just started with one, then went to three real quick. And then by the May, I was with eight. I said, I'm not monkeying around because we didn't find one until the end of June, beginning of
July. Okay. So, I'm going right for the Juular going for eight contract. and see what I can get and start working on that process. But we're looking at next year already. So, um, and then also working on budgets for student services and the elementary reschedule of those. I do want to say one brief thing. I know you know there was a lot of people there at that event yesterday. I was floored at how smoothly everything went and how seamless it went with the real the real deal. So, >> um, does anyone have any questions for me on either one of the pieces, the elementary or the student services? [clears throat] Do >> you have any idea how many districts in the county have an inerson speech? I know it's a problem everywhere, but like >>
uh Daniel has their own person that they hired last year. Um I don't know to the rest. I know Mount Vernon contracts. I I use their contract service, but they also hire. >> They do both contracts. >> East Knox contracts. Um Clar Hires, they have theirs hired. Um Center I think they I know they have >> I don't know what center does >> but they are and and a lot of them don't want to do in person and really we need in person for the needs of the kids that we have. So that was one of the sticking issues I had last year. I could find some but they wanted to either do remote or hybrid. Hybrid might work in some situations, but we really have enough students that we need. >> Any other questions?
>> Thank you. >> Okay, over here to my right. Hello. Um, well, just want to say thank you for the input, allowing for the input for the calendar. We appreciate that. Um, always quiet. >> Yes, >> thank you. >> I'm just gonna piggy back on. >> You guys didn't answer the talent show question. Mr. Dan's going to be bad. I'm asking it again. But did you guys participate in a talent show when you were students? I >> like it's a character builder. >> You saying I know I did too. I couldn't sing out of >> Yeah. Same. [clears throat] >> I sang that little Andy song. Song >> with a friend who also sing. >> That was my moment. >> I love it. >> This is Bruce and I's 50th anniversary of graduation. So, we
don't think we have have any talent. So, they didn't even have a show. >> Yeah, I don't remember it. >> I love it. I think they're fantastic. I'm glad we're doing this. >> Okay. Well, then I believe we are on to item or I should say number 11 and I need a motion to adjurnn. >> Second. >> Mr. F. >> Yes. >> Mr. Bowman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lindon. Yes. >> Mr. Nier. Yes. >> Mrs. Winger. >> Yes. The chili.
