So, if you'd like to come up and take a picture with the students, go or of the students, please come on up. Good evening. She's probably a year older than you. >> She's my age. >> Only one year older than me. That's not one. Oh. Oh no. Um. Oh. We played softball together in the summers and time. by the well. >> Oh yeah, he
047100% did um went to grade school. Um I'll never forget this. There's no one. I mean like bro like rooster like black comm. She was like uh a little different. I don't know. Did they happen to have it as a pet at home? >> Yeah. >> Holy crap. Yeah. What in the >> Thanks for everyone for coming tonight. Um, at this point, we still have to carry on with our regular uh board meeting. So, if you'd like to leave at this time, go spend the evening with your family on this beautiful evening. Thanks again for coming and congratulations to all of our students. >> Um, that was a lot nicer than saying get out of here. >> Yeah, we'll see how long they stick around, right? And please don't loiter around the door >> because
048my ADD is going nuts. >> I said, "And please don't loiter around the door outside of there because my ADD is going." >> Yeah. It looks like you just couldn't get it closed. >> Right. But then they kept saying and you can still hear it. >> Knew you were going to get blamed. >> Yeah. Usually usually that's how >> you would just have to encourage them to stay. I think we should just um like one of the first first years that I was on the board got to do this >> I always write down and I did this year too but >> like adjectives and want to that are sad and want to talk to >> hey Tom if I start giving my report they'll leave >> we'll give them we'll give a couple minutes
049>> you know kind of for one of us to represent the board this parents guardians whoever's listening you guys are like everything that you do in at home Oh, really? How long ago did Sue retire? Right here. >> Say it was before I was on the board. >> Maybe for some money. Um, when I first thought it, it was still there. >> Lori said one of the dads was a student of hers came up and So, now we're going to go back to um early in the agenda. So, we'll move we'll go on to the legislative report. Don, >> uh yes. I I think what I'd like to do is just kind of run through and kind of give you an update just on some of the bills and that are transitioning through the House
050and uh a little bit of the Senate. Um there's the one bill fostering school success act um has been presented uh and and again that's dealing if I understand it correctly it's helping children who are in the foster care system being able to transition from one school to another if they're moved. Oh, apparently that needs uh some attention. Uh there's the youth cardiac monitoring uh and that's uh been passed by the house and now it's to the Senate for consideration. Uh one of the bills that we talked about uh last year was the educator uh license grade bands. Uh it looks like, you know, they made some changes with the 135th General Assembly, but now they've uh realized kind of the error of their ways and they're going back to the old band system, which
051I think was more acceptable to uh teachers and uh ad and administrators that are um following that system. Uh there's a another bill that and and I'm not not quite sure it it deals with excused absences from school and kind of expanding upon what is access acceptable. And uh if you read in the uh the facts uh letter that we all get uh it talks a little bit more about requiring a school district to count a student's participation in a number of different activities. And I I guess I I don't feel comfortable understanding uh exactly what they're trying to accomplish with that bill. Uh there's the busing improvement act is in a first hearing. Um there's a a school chaplain act which would permit public schools to engage volunteer chaplain to provide support services and
052and I think that's both with public and uh getting into some providing that to some private entities. Um the they're at a third hearing for prohibiting middle and high school athletes from earning compensation from the athletes name. And I think that seems to be moving uh through the house. Now, what I've kind of heard is uh that the there's a question mark if the Senate uh are as excited or positive about that kind of rolling through. Um seems like it runs into a glitch each time it's come up through the years. Um there's one uh first reading and basically uh it's a supporting a resolution that would urge the Congress to dismantle uh the United States Department of Education. And I I'm surprised to see that at this point in time just based on the
053status of uh the Department of Education. Um there's a number of other uh uh bills that are rolling through that are dealing with uh uh property tax calculations in terms of um I guess unusual or different circumstances as to how they're applied. And a couple of those bills are are kind of rolling through. And see, I think that's all I wanted to mention on this. The final thing I wanted to mention was uh after I gave my report last meeting, I think uh Laura had mentioned something about the um lot lottery uh earnings and how those are dispensed. And there was a great article in the news messenger, I believe it was Saturday, that really took it from the start to where it is right now. in terms of how the monies are dispersed and
054I and kind of how it was sold to the public at what point in time. Apparently the original um passage uh not sure it was 90 92. Um there was no language in there that really said education uh is where the money should go. But then there was another um amendment. I'm trying to think if it was um if that if that was um an amendment that uh the money should go more toward education and spelled out a couple other areas. And throughout that process, doesn't seem like it really ever hit more than about 25% of the money making it. Um, and and if you look at how complicated or you know, you see all the machines out there now and uh they have a lot of employees in that system. Uh, so I think
055I think think it's become a little bit more bureaucratic than I think we originally thought it would be. Uh, and and if you notice like even on in Ohio, uh, with the mega lottery, that's gone from two bucks to five bucks a ticket. And so I think they're trying to recoup some of those costs, but no matter what you do, the monies seem to hang around that 25%. Uh, I think the other thing that um that I I caught at the end, I think it was at the end of the article there was information that was kind of sticking up for our uh school treasurers because in there it was kind of saying uh people will ask school treasurers how much money are we getting from the lottery? And it's a very difficult answer because
056uh the money basically is being put I think into the general fund at the state level and then it comes with other monies that we get. So it's kind of mixed in there and making it very difficult. Does that sound >> Yes. >> like a direct funnel in of the money. >> There's no Ohio lottery check. >> Yeah. It goes in my pocket. Um, no. >> Yeah, >> there's not just a line that says Ohio Lottery, right? That comes right to us. >> So, so that I thought was excellent timing with that article. I wish I would have called and been the one to encourage them to write that article, but it was very good. So, I would encourage anybody here or anybody in the public to uh take a look at that article. That's
057all I had. >> Thanks, Don. No walk on items tonight. >> Yes, sir. >> Uh moving on to hearing of the public. We cleared the room pretty quick, so we'll move on to recommendations of the superintendent. >> Fantastic. Thank you, Mr. Vice Board members. Good evening. >> Um first item I would ask your approval for are consider two donations that I bring forward this evening. One from Janet Meers and one from Glassroots Organization. I get a motion to approve item one, please. >> So move. >> Motion by uh Miss Lewis. I have a second. >> Second by Mr. Nally. Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Miss Lewis, >> yes. >> Mr. Nally, >> yes. >> Mrs. Bloom, >> yes. Miss Layman, >> yes. >> Mr. Price, >> yes. Motion's approved. >> Wonderful. Thank you.
058Um, item number two is always a wonderful opportunity for us. We have two students that have earned all of the necessary items for a Ross High School diploma. So, Janoria Le Paris Brown, sorry about that, Janaria and Laquan Desante Boyd. Congratulations to both of our students um that have met all of the requirements. Also then in item number three um and Mrs. Abernathy shared a memo with us at the end of last week just to give you some additional information um for the technology purchase for those Dell technologies. So thank you considering those two items. >> Can I get a motion to approve items two and three, please? >> Motion by Mrs. Bloom. Could I have a second? >> Second by Miss Layman. Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Bloom. Yes. Miss Layman.
059>> Yes. >> M Lewis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Nally? Yes, >> Mr. P. >> Yes. Motion's approved. >> Thank you. Um, changing up to our staff items this evening, beginning with item number four, and we have some appointments of some certified staff substitutes. We are also are welcoming on board um Mrs. Kelly Winters who will be joining us as one of our elementary secretary positions and a couple of support staff substitutes as well. Then in item number five, we have some supplemental contracts beginning with Skyler Fischer and ending with Julia Zooker. Item number six, um a couple more of those um supplemental contracts that will get us ready for some spring items that are coming our way. Item number seven, we have two ads for some winter um special event workers that took place. We
060were very fortunate this winter and we have hosted um several of tournament level games and activities here at Ross High School. Um which means that we needed a couple extra hands. Um item number eight are those special event workers that will get us ready for spring because it'll be here before we know it. Item number five, we have some status changes for some staff. >> Can I get a motion to approve items four through nine, please? All moved. >> Motion by Mr. Nally. Could I have a second? >> Second by Miss Lewis. Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> N. >> Yes. >> Miss. Lewis. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Bloom. >> Yes. Miss Layman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Price. >> Yes. Motion's approved. >> Thank you very much. >> Moving on to report of the
061treasure. >> Uh, good evening. I'm sure you are all super excited to see that my portion of the agenda is pretty much non-existent after last meetings when I think I had like 14 pages. >> Yes, ma'am. Amen. >> So, just real quickly, I'll give you kind of an update of what's going on in the office. We closed out the month of February um this end of last week, beginning of this week, and we are now marching on through March. and just getting everything going or I don't know almost ending. Getting ready for that. It's kind of crazy. I think June will be here before we know it. We are also progressing through our fiscal year 25 audit. Been going back and forth with the auditors get making sure they have everything they need. And we
062are also in the process of doing our boundary financing. So, it's a lot of staying on top of emails and making sure every different area is getting the items that they need. So, we've been um working with our legal team and the um underwriters for our bond as well on that part of the refinancing project. And Mrs. Mrs. Hurt and I will get to do a bond rating interview and we are so excited to get to do that. So they promise they will prep me in particular to make sure I speak as greatly as possible. >> We will represent well. I am confident that we will represent well. I will have the word lady with me. >> We'll just insert numbers as needed. >> We'll have Abby out for us. >> So, as I mentioned,
063I don't have anything for approval tonight. So, >> Okay. All right. Thanks, Megan. All right. Moving on to board member communications. Lori. >> Well, um, thank you for the pledge tonight. That we did a good job. I know he was nervous but did a good job and all those students um congratulations to every one of them for earning their stellar award. Always highlights of passing those out during the year the next round and then diplomas. Those are um congratulations to the two graduates who earned their diplomas for a job well done and well earned and all the event workers and all the people that are willing to give up time help out. >> Thank you Laura. >> Um I just want to say that again for the first congratulations all the students uh the parents
064that are here with them everything that goes into it. Um, some of those kids look familiar because I got a chance to go to on the 27th I went to what school and where was the second graders and a couple of those kids look familiar. Um, they had a Rotary day. I wrote some notes down in case I didn't forget. But anyways, we went in there and it was fill in your bucket. Denise was there, uh, Abby. Actually, we had some commissioners and at least one of them and we just had like a nice variety of people there, but um it was what was it? Fill your bucket day. Um they kind of did a couple projects. They they made these buckets. They designed their own buckets and then they filled out a slip. Uh
065they had partners, wrote something nice about them and put them in the other person's bucket and they just, you know, it was just it was kind of like a how do you feel? are you filling other people's buckets or you taking away from you know that was the whole thing and we kind of explained different things of what we do and they were just in there chitchatting they were doing projects and then they played like a they played a bingo um it was like a positive bingo to like encourage uh good behavior um so I kind of was randomly going from in the neighborhood of them from the different there was three different second grades and I was wandering around and helping and watching listening to all the good conversation And they were having fun
066and am I missing anything? >> They seemed like they had a really good day. They were enjoying each other. >> Yeah, they it really has been a wonderful program. This is part of our literacy, excuse me, our literacy partnership with Fremont Rotary Club. And so Fremont Rotary brings some volunteers. Um every second grade across the district has had the opportunity to participate in the fill your bucket activity. um our curriculum department does a fantastic job of supporting that and pulling all of those pieces together, but the children get to hear the story. Um they first get to have the piece of literature read to them. Um and it is all about, as Miss Layman said, um the idea of filling others buckets with positive reinforcements and good kind words um and deeds and not being
067a um bucket stealer. not it's taking out of someone's bucket, >> right? >> Um so then the kids are paired up and they they make their bucket like she said and then they get a chance to fill other people's buckets and actually have a practice of what that might look like or sound like. Um so it it is a wonderful um partnership between Fremont City Schools and Fremont Rotary and it's a great activity for all of our second graders across the district. >> Yeah, I really enjoyed that. >> I'm glad that's good. So yeah, the next thing I have coming up of visiting the kids is I'm going to be at the middle school on the 17th uh for an eighth grade event. So I'm looking forward to that. Um again, I'm just trying to
068spread myself a little and get in the schools and see what's going on, you know, see what's going on with the project for approving and in the middle of it. Trying to do that a little bit more. So I'm excited. I'm excited to do all the different schools and ages and all I have for right now. Sure. Um I think I said this privately after the last meeting, but not necessarily publicly and I think it it should be said publicly. I just thank you for um going around the schools and being visible in the district and um making time to um like you just said, you see what you approve. You know what I mean? you see those textbooks at work, you see the, you know, all of the teachers and the staff. So, thank
069you for for taking the time to do that. Anytime. Thank you. >> Um, we have a lot of a district full of state qualifiers and esteemed groups and ch of children um right now. And I I tend to always report on these things because a it's my favorite. Um, but we just have a lot of kids doing a lot of great things around the district. Um, and I just like to highlight those things. Um, the music department has had a wonderful showing um, over the last um, week and a half or two. Um, Miss Julia Zuker led the high school choir to a superior rating at the MA district large group competition. Um, Mrs. Hammacker and the high school orchestra earned a superior rating overall and insight reading um at the state orchestra competition. Um,
070I was able to be at that and I mean they were amazing. Um, Mr. Calhoun and the the Ross Symphonic Band earned a superior rating and qualified for for state um at the event that we hosted here um at the high school um for the OMA high school band. It was a band and choir event. Um that took a lot of coordination I'm sure that I have no idea about. Um, but just walking into the building here, um, I'm pretty certain they probably started around 5ish, >> just a little bit earlier. Um the uh the symphonic the the concert band the Fremont concert band played at 8:00 p.m. and the symphonic band played at 1000 p.m. So it was a long night for a lot of people and I just want to point out a
071few people um who loaned themselves uh to to that event. um the the music boosters and some parents and volunteers set up um concession stand and had um food and drinks available um for everybody because it is a long night. Um they they did a phenomenal job um with that. We had plenty of um student volunteers. So there were volunteers from the middle school um music program that and the high school actually um that were runners. So all of the um performances took place here in the pack. Um and in that middle section of the pack there are three different they call them adjudicator adjudicators or judges um that assess every group that performs and then after they did their performance and they were assessed it all goes into a secret envelope and then the
072runners run it you know to the appropriate um people. So there were a lot of opportunities that were taken by students to volunteers uh to volunteer, excuse me. Um Mr. Coltonbach, the voice of the the uh marching little giants, but also the voice of every performance that we have here involving the band. Um so he um MCed the entire night, not just for our bands that played. Um, why I don't know why Henry's last name is falling. >> Jakorski. Um, Henry was here running all of the AV uh things here. Um, and also just a shout out to Mr. Calhoun and and Mrs. Walker um for all they did to coordinate that. Um, also there there's a a janitor here and I know her first name is Shelly and she is here a lot. Um,
073she's so cheerful, so happy to do her job. Um, she I I just learned her name and I've talked to her after every home basketball game. Um, and she just really is a joy. um and takes pride in her in her job and I just wanted to give her a special shout out as well. Um and then really quickly, we had some um athletes um earn some honors over the last week. Um the indoor track had state championships. Um Mason England captured the state title in the 60 meter hurdles and then third place in the high jump. Braxton Jordan uh finished fourth in the 60 meter dash and fifth in the 200 meter dash. And Julia Norris um made history as the first distance runner from Fremont Ross um to compete at a at an
074indoor state meet and she finished 11th in the 800. And then Lexi Nelson finished 15th in the long jump and 12th in the triple jump. um that makes me very excited for the upcoming um track season here. And again, I dare not talk about wrestling. So, just congratulations to all of the the kids for all the the awesome things uh that they have going on. And shout out to parents, too. um when mom and dad's taxi service has to run uh to get to to get kiddos places and um you know just to be present for for their children. That's a that's a lot on the on the family. So just a shout out to all the parents as well. >> H >> Oh yes. Um, in regards to the weather, I just wanted to
075say sunshine good, fog bad, but I think uh, you know, compliments to Denise to I know last week uh, she had mentioned Tom was not going to be here and, uh, just driving those roads and, uh, doing that. I think, you know, it's just part of the job, but you know, it's uh just definitely commendable that you're making the right decisions and the safe decisions. Uh also, um regarding the stellar students, a couple of things jumped out at me. uh one uh the parents and family support was pretty amazing to see all the families that got out um and supporting their uh their child. Uh the other thing that uh jumped out at me was just a couple keywords uh and things that the kids were I heard a couple times DKL and I thought
076you know talking about the kids enjoying reading and and there were a lot of quite a number of them that where reading was mentioned and I think that's that's great. I mean, you know, this day and age pulling kids away from uh on their private times their cell phones, then having that opportunity to really learn uh the skill the skill of reading the right way. Uh and you know, I I I'm glad we were recommended move into that program. Um, and and I think that's been going well. A couple of the key words that jumped out at me, you know, you heard the word kind or kindness a lot with the kids. And you know, in this day and age, kindness is uh very important. Uh, positive choice, uh, positive attitude. So, I think, you
077know, positivity was good. Heard the word love a few times. That was that was that was nice. Um, I think uh with the individual um that read uh for the Spanish child, I thought that was very nice uh very inclusive and you know and again in this day and age I think those people and those families um color that have those fears in their lives be able to do something positive uh and experience that here uh I thought was really nice. Um then the final thing I wanted to mention was on the donations. It is really nice to see someone uh with Janet Miles uh the donation that she makes several times a year sometimes and uh you know just that she's committed to um kind of the career that she had and then also
078that that feeling that you know she wants to be a part of making sure that Um, we continue to uh have uh books and have media that the children can benefit from. And you know, I know she's mainly tied in with the middle school, but you know, it's an important thing. And I think that's all I had. Well, thanks to Silus for coming in and leading the pledge with us. Um, congratulations to all of our stellar students. Like everyone else has said, um, this is a fun night. We get to celebrate the kids and all the parents and grandparents and family members that are here to support them. So, thanks to the Learning and Liberty Foundation for sponsoring that um, and also promoting that and and uh, what that means. You're the stellar student of
079the year for that classroom. So, thank you to them for continuing to do that year after year. So all that they do um congratulations to our students in the choir, the band, bands and the orchestra. Um coming from a person who cannot clap to a beat to save his life, >> I am amazed that anyone who can sing or play an instrument. So um because that is so far away from my capability, it's unreal. So to see um all the superior ratings and how well they did. Uh congratulations to them and the instructors and the adviserss and everybody who put that all together. So and then I'll finish with wrestling since Sarah didn't hit that. Well, and congratulations to the students from the indoor track. Um track season I think again is going to be
080a strong team, boys and girls. So um our track program is is really um always produces the athletes. So, from the wrestling standpoint, both the boys and girls wrestling had districts this past weekend. The boys had four or five qualify for districts. One came out that qualified for state, Aiden Alulo, who's a senior. So, congratulations to Aiden. Good luck uh this weekend down at Columbus. And then for us on the girls side, we had 10 girls um qualify for district and we had three qualify for state after the weekend. So, we have three girls, um, Malayaia Hughes, Kaani Long, and Kiana Van who will be representing Fremont down in Columbus. So, we'll be at the Shot and Scene Center all weekend long. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, there will be wrestling. Hopefully, we are all of
081us boys and girls are wrestling on Sunday. If we're wrestling on Sunday, that's a good weekend. So, that's that's the hope. But, uh, good luck to all of the athletes, um, representing us. I think there's a send off on Thursday. >> Believe it's >> I believe it's Thursday. So, um it's always cool to see how they if you haven't been a part of it, they think it's is it the drum corps? Yes. >> That walks them through the building so that as kids are in the classroom, it's at the end of the day, but all the kids can send them off to state. So, >> they come out, the students will come out of their classrooms and line line the hallways and and it's it's really cool. We did it just a couple weeks ago
082for our swimmer and our diver and >> um it it's a pretty neat feeling to hear that drum line go through the hallways. >> Yeah, it it it carries. That's for sure. >> It does. You're in the cafeteria, you can hear exactly where they're at all the way through. If you if you need a little little giant spirit, if that's missing in your moment, you need to come and and be a part of that send out. That's really a cool feeling. >> I I really appreciate that we do that for any of our students that >> um >> Make it to state. That's a that's a great way to send them off and get them a little hype for the for their events, whatever that is. So, >> um with that, do we have could
083I have a motion for a German, please? Motion by Mrs. Bloom. Could I have a second? >> Second by Miss Lewis. Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Bloom. >> Yes. Miss Lewis. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Ms. Layman. >> Yeah. >> Mr. Nally. >> Yes. >> Mr. Price. >> Yes. Motions approved. Meetings adjourned.
