one but what we're doing is putting more instruction intervention and time on task for math what you see in front of you there is for the high school and the idea is that we can at the high school provide more targeted intervention areas of algebra one and geometry we pick up algebra two if necessary but we're going to focus on those two areas within math at the high school two days per week we believe we'll need two teachers for this if the board agrees to this and approves it tonight we would start as early as February 21st a lot of work to be done but the principles are working on this in anticipation the board May approve it and they'll be between 16 and 18 sessions some are hoping for less if they're snow days

but those are you know the weather has to cooperate so today is not the day um and then we're going to have increased frequency of weeks that we may you know add some additional time and then I'm not sure if the board's aware but there's a program called Alex that we've used in the past and this will be primarily what we use for intervention I like the program I'm familiar with it for years and what it's interesting about it if a couple of us were to um you know work in this program it sets a bazel or a ground level for you and then how you progress vertically is dependent upon your proficiency and when you start to ceiling in an area it moves out horizontally and starts to build your base before you move

up vertically again so that'll be something that's facilitated with the um by the teachers in part of their work but it's also portable so the students could be working on that off hours at the middle school um you know we're trying things the best that we can here so um this is almond diggers been working on this part of it Mr boonberg the high school so we would look at our smart periods and how we're going to Target a little bit differently than we have there that also be two days a week again you can read all this I don't need to read every one aspect of this we're also going to look at some after school work there so you can see that and we're going to try to do two days a week

two teachers again similar timeline is what the high school has and will be utilizing the Alex program as one of our resources so any questions about the high school or middle school before we flip through their two buildings would they also be working if the student was having trouble in their daily work would they be able to assist them with that with math yes okay yes yeah we're going to look at where there's some gaps let's say some learning gaps but that'll also include daily work because it all kind of it all weaves together so yeah let's just head up you can put the other um and then we also have a similar program you know in customizing for developmental reasons so at the Intermediate School Mrs Smith has worked on this we have one

hour of targeted math instruction before or after school and depending on availability um you can see somewhere there we would start February 27th two days a week we're going to have more teachers that we need here Mrs Smith thinks we'll need at least six and then one of the things we're working out is can we make some adjustments to allow some students to ride different buses it will not change transportation services that we have but for example could we have a student ride at another bus or vice versa if we have a middle school student ride you know the gis bus because the time difference is to help them out if they needed to give before or after school so we would work on that that's going to be available based on room but we

wouldn't have to have buses for that we use the iready program right now so different than Alex that we talked about the other buildings so we primarily look at I ready and then at the elementary again similar Focus here they're going to focus most of the time in K2 in the classroom so we're gonna or during the school day I should say so that might be taking taking for some other times in the day uh Faith well in all of them actually two of them will also look at from additional targeted time um you know won't read all this because you can go through this and see it too but there is some after school available here as well two days also beginning on February 27th and then we actually have some other work there

for the grades you can see uh in third grade we're booking also there is we also have the third grade guarantee so we're looking at that so we might pick up a little English language arts there for the third grade as well based on needs and we may need more teachers there for eight to ten teachers and then they'll primarily be using i-Ready what their other support materials questions about the intermediate or Elementary no no okay okay the only other thing and this will come later in the agenda but the other thing I wanted to tell the board is we need to look at competitiveness when it comes to our tutoring rate so it's recommended that we pay 30 an hour to our staff to work that's a more competitive rate the good news is

and this has probably been working on this we still have some of our federal stimulus monies the Esther monies so we can draw from those so there won't be exposure to the general fund at this time any questions overall about our interventions um I do want to tell the board this is this year you know one of the questions I've been asked is this going to continue every year um no I mean right now this is a point in time and we're identifying some learning gaps we want to intervene now and then there's a longer range which will take us to the next presentation we start talking about a mass series okay there's no questions then you'll see that later on in the agenda and then I wanted to then start talking about math Series

so let me pass some of these out here so I can talk while we're doing this um there's two companies we have thing uh we've kind of have it narrowed down to laughs uh what Kim is handing out for you is you get to see some of the materials the two companies we're looking at right now are called reveal um to the more popular uh series that you would say something by notes here um two of them are popular series you would see and most importantly what we've been doing is we've looked at series and identifying what the state standards are to make sure that we have alignment with those standards I will tell you that when you adopt a curriculum there is no curriculum that's going to cover everything and there's going to have

to be some supplementation but these two series do provide the most coverage or coverage that we need but Kim has passed out is you have the What's called the reveal series we also have comparable materials you can see for Envision so they're all the same you can just do just different versions um the administrative team has been very helpful with this and what we're doing is we're just going through and again aligning the state standards talking to um different companies and as I said we have it down to these two the next step in this process will be can continue to do our due diligence and then um we're going to involve the teachers in fact this week um they will start we're getting things scheduled and they will have an opportunity to start to

see some of these vendors materials Debbie seibel's been very helpful with this as well as you may expect and we have additional copies so what you see here is second grade seventh grade but we're going to make sure we have the full series from a top end this will take us through algebra one Algebra 2 and geometry the series won't take us any further than that if we have other series we'll have to I mean if we go further we'll have to look at other series for that one of the things we're looking at through this process is also looking at pricing for this we don't have a final on this yet some of the materials you have in your hands are consumables and some will be hard textbooks what we're envisioning is that we

would have a classroom set at the high school so for algebra one two and then geometry and probably a set at the middle school for algebra one as well too we're going to get about 35 copies of the book or and then that way if some of us take one home we have some alternates or something happens but we wouldn't buy one for every student there's a digital aspect that comes with this too so there's a whole online component you also have consumables in front of you consumables primarily will be through grade eight through I'm sorry k through eight they also have a comparable both Publishers have comparable digital with that as well too the the online yes yes yes yeah and they have different intervention programs too the um that's Envision the reveal actually

is the company that owns um reveal is by McGraw-Hill they actually own the Alex program interestingly enough so we've been using that someone in the district and then the other company envisioned is Savas and they're formerly known as Peter Pearson and they actually have a remedial program a remediation program as well too okay yeah but it's all online if we end up with adopting a Series this year the goal again is to try and get one ready for the coming school year you can expect we'll keep the board updated there's nothing for you to prove tonight that could be as early as March but a lot of work to do between now and then and then it wants a series is adapted we have to start an implementation plan and that'll include some parent meetings

as well too to start to get parents up to speed on this math is very difficult if you're trained in a traditional math like many of us were math the way it's taught today is very different you know and it really they talk about the aspect of construction of constructivism on right and with that sorry but constructivism means is that you know there can be two or three different ways sometimes for a student to get to the answer and the idea there is that they're constructing meeting around how they get there so sometimes in in some previous ways math was taught as you would see very linear one wayish all your work we're still going to look for the work but there's different ways you can get there and it's really the way we function

as adults when you think about it I mean if we were to try and solve a math problem here I bet it many of us would come at it a different ways and that's okay so that's going to be something that's different I think parents need to see that as part of the component with this other questions yeah one of the things that when you look at any kind of adoptions this isn't a political statement but any kind of adoptions there's questions about what the content is I think you'll hear different uh you know is this around critical race theory is around social emotional learning so we're cognizant of that and we're looking at research and all of this as well too to make sure because we really want to be you know not endorsing

any aspect socially politically like this we really just want to focus on math so that's something that we're working on um Mrs Seibel today and I were on the phone with the um one of the Publishers and we were talking to them because some of these series if you look at them have had controversy depending on the state you look at and sometimes it's just a grand sweep of we're not accepting any series and then they'll slowly take segments of it or possibly the full series so one of the things that I'm going to do is follow up with the legal team for the one publisher we talked to today because I want to know how they've adapted some of their materials when there have been questions about it specifically around some areas that could

be controversial again for our school district not really interested in it we're gonna you know we're gonna focus on math and not interested agendas but we'll go through that as part of our due diligence so any questions thoughts I know you've had some updates about this okay so those are some of the we'll take those back at the end but you're welcome to look at them during the meeting and then so we what we're doing is getting uh samples in the closer we get to adopting the more we're going to ask for uh samples so what we're going to see is we'd like to see a comprehensive K all the way through like I said geometry one of the things that we're going to have to talk about and and this is pulley and I'll

bring this to the next board meeting is cost we have not adopted Series in the past and what I'd like to see us do I think this is part of our visioning is we're going to start looking at a cycle I believe what we should be adopting so if we adopt math this year getting ready for next school year in the 23-24 school year I would like to recommend this will come later at looking at English language arts and getting that ready for the following year we need to look at science and social studies as well too so this will be a rolling now I will tell you that a math series and we have to get more of the details so this is just big picture but probably somewhere about 250 000 a year

maybe more it's going to depend on how many hardbacks we buy that become classroom sets how much how many in consumables life cycle uh the one company and vision has a five-year life cycle I believe in the other one has a six year vice versa so you know the cost will be different there too so we'll get all that organized but I I will tell you in advance this will have a significant overlay on the five-year forecast and when you think about if you pull this through five years and then you could easily be talking a million and a half maybe two million dollars depending on when we fully build this out so it's when the big picture tell the board to get ready for that because and we'll have it you know we'll we'll

work through but what Kim and I are talking about is taking the last forecast you approved and then looking at more of the managerial type of model in preparation for May they'll have to reconcile or adopt the next forecast so this should be included question uh Kim did we did foundations said about the right number yes and that was all yes yeah but that's Esser money where at some point that Federal stimulus money that's going to drive them we're gonna have to pull that through the forecast as well too now the thing I would tell you is we do use I ready which you heard that we're going to use in the two buildings for assessments and there'll be some components of i-Ready but we might end up if we adopt a series especially for

the intervention programs we may end up having lessened adoption for i-Ready and I think you told me it's about 68 000 this year so there'll be some recapturing of monies there so we'll lay it all out for you but I think we need to make sure we know what the general fund exposure is for all of this and I think it's necessary but I just want to make sure that the board's aware what the cost can be when we overlay this in the forecast any other questions or we can answer I appreciate your support in this really because I tell you the administrative team when I'm working with them and we're going to get we started with some of the teachers Mrs Smith had an impromptu meeting people are very excited about you know getting

ourselves organized and moving in this direction so a lot of work to do implementation is going to be a lot a lot of professional development we're going to spend time this summer but thank you for supporting us to this point we'll most likely if things go as expected for any something formal in March but we'll have another curriculum committee meeting before that and and some other Communications to keep the port updated okay that's all I have for presentation this is Tim shift not mine oh thank you sorry I was running late from work uh but we have to we just started with the board committees really with the board committees then if we have any updates the first one we held was building grounds and safety and that was on February 7th and I believe

Mrs Thomas is going to start with the update yes um we have we had a meeting with Dave Jenny and it was great that he's been focused on the security report he put those updates in they've either completed or they're pending so that'll be a good thing to come up over doors a bobcat replacement is pending possibly just want to let the board know there's some it's being repaired quite a bit and it started to add up so that might be something that comes important later and the Harvard I guess probably should give an update on the Harvard contract all the ships are filled and we've had great feedback Kim also said that they've been great to work with with their villain so I thought the board might want to know that as well sounds

great thank you we also had curriculum that met on February 7th to February 7th was a popular day you'll see um and I think Mrs Davis is going to give that report um a lot of the things were what Mr Wagner already talked about with our spring spring programming and we're looking again to continue our summer support for our students um again long term we will get some more information on textbooks and what else am I in this yeah a lot of our major points I think I think it was a good meeting yeah we spent a lot of good time I think really most of it recovered then we also had an insurance meeting also on the ever popular February 7th date and I think this is as we continue to focus on our

insurance and lowering those costs and take a deep dive you'll see tonight that we put a motion in there to change the Insurance Consultant and we met with Cheryl Broadway both of those are from Gallagher that shift would take place March 1st and should we choose that tonight it would take place March 1st Kim and Dawn have done some preliminary data mining to see what they need to do so that we're ready to go Don also met and clicked them um maybe another should we choose them the timeline we put together a calendar in fact there's a booklet here if anyone would like to see it afterwards complete booklet that I brought April would be the next meeting that we would meet with insurance Consultants so really thank you I appreciate all the Committees plus

the communication has been good you guys have been outdating you know sending me notes and stuff on so I appreciate that a good communication I don't feel like I'm left out of them on anything so I appreciate it and then we've got a couple meetings coming up the finance committee Alan and Ruth Ann you guys have yours scheduled coming up uh look at communications one group and I and we have a strategic planning Economic Development one uh Dr Wagner sent an email today to the city of Johnstown kind of trying to set up a meeting we don't need to talk about some of that so we'll wait that response they've been very receptive and helpful to this point very much moving in the same direction working with us so it's been a good partnership in

the web technology also coming up that's not a committed me too technology yep all right moving on a consent agenda sure can I go through the items real quick okay the first one we have is for under consent is resignations and this is Hope a link is here and if you happen to be for her so she is here so she's retiring from Johnson I thought be good to highlight a little bit 23 years and then she um this is actually her 35th year teaching so this is her second district coming but 23 years and she assures me nothing's changed in 23 years that's not true she says A lot's changed but I you know that's that really says something to be 23 years in one district and really appreciate everything you've done to help

the students through the years of me do you have any uh repeat of any children of children yet if you have that yeah foreign we have a couple people for pupil activity um and that's for seventh grade softball and eighth grade Mr triplets here right now I talked to him at the beginning um volunteers we always appreciate those who volunteers we have a couple here for baseball and softball probably are any of these people here because I don't know them yeah okay um and then we have unpaid leaves we don't put the reasons why but we have some staff who need some extensions Beyond normal allocation of leave a would have uh next item is the Ohio High School Athletic Association this is our annual membership that comes up and uh then we have the

treasures report for December we have a transfer of funds can you wanna say anything about that um this is the lfi that's left over from the building projects and it's staying within the same fund but this is allowing us to move it to use it for other projects instead of specific through FCC if I can just um so that's locally funded initiatives correct yes okay and then we have board minutes which are rather matter of fact unless you have questions about those permanent appropriation and certificated estimated resources can we put for any of that there's just a very minor change okay that's right because the board is seeing this already so this is just a menu okay and then the last one in consent is resolution accepting amounts of tax rates or Texture 22 and

certifying them to the auditor this is a requirement by state law we have to certify to the county what village the county proposes a millage to assess and then we have to approve that millage for them to collect our taxes and that's all we have for consent can I get a motion discussion obviously uh thank you very much for your 23 years of service but if you kids have been through our elementary and through your classes and appreciate it and I was going to say thank you and congratulations on your retirement yes and we're always looking for subs and just remember there's no there's no lesson plans right so hope we can count on you right enjoy the summer and then you'll miss it yeah perhaps right perhaps you can take the first week off

of school and then all right and then again thanks for our volunteers and our coaches uh as always I can't do it without volunteers around here and that's all I've got anyone have any questions comments call the rule Mr Button yes Mrs yes Mrs Davis yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas yes treasurer's recommendations um this is request to approve our Insurance Consultant that Mrs Thomas mentioned Cheryl Broadway with Gallagher insurance can I get a motion the second discussion I just appreciate all the work that everyone's done doctor in Wagner Kim and of course the board members that were heavily involved in going through all of this and members of our esteemed Administration I mean it's been a big change for us you know can lead to two good things for where we want to go

so I do appreciate the work on that well and with the if I can just have the committee to we talk quite a bit about what's going to we have a calendar moving forward so they'll be this is going to be a lot about education moving forward now too and there's this whole aspect we talk about consumerism so knowing what you're using why you're using it best method so we're going to spend a lot of time on that and we hope that this will change some behaviors and keep our very good plan that we have but make a little bit more economical for everyone thank you call the roll Mr Batten yes yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas yes on to your superintendent um the first item is board policy and um it's policy 5611

it's called due process rights I know the board has seen this but just go over it quickly um there's just some standardization we want to make sure that we have across the board so in many cases you'll see 14 days as and it's identified specifically throughout the policy now in its calendar days so we have some standardization there and then um just some overall updates that'll bring us up to speed here and then what we'll need to do is also update the ministry guidelines so they're not going to be anything really that um that much that changes really is just the timelines with that and then so the 14 days generally is recommended this all also affects suspensions in cases expulsions and then we'll make sure and handbooks are updated too because they'll we're getting

ready for next year with that so it's not a lot of changes there but important nonetheless that's the only true policy we have tonight are you in motion make motion let's see oops I spoke before the motions call the roll please Mr Benton yes Mrs Booher yes Mrs Davis yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas yes okay next one is in lieu of Transportation uh 23-02-0269 won't say anything intelligence if there's a person second and we get a motion I'll motion let me get a second second discussion okay so um just part of best practices we think the board should be approving these what you're authorizing are some students who were if they're impractical to transport and I'm sure you're familiar with the process we also did a look back and we were going to grab

the previous school year for 2122 and that's your next resolution as well too that's all I have unless there's questions any questions and we've if we've dealt with this everyone knows this just going on the record to provide the actual payment yep call the roll please Mr Benton yes Mrs Brewer yes Mrs Davis yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas yes item C uh resolution 23-02-027 this is in lieu of Transportation this is for the previous year the 2122 school year can I get a motion any discussion it's just making sure we're on the record for last year's call the roll Mr Benton yes Mrs Brewer yes Mrs Davis yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas resolution 23-02-028 are programa studies this includes the high school and middle school hopefully we've got a few minutes to look

at those I do appreciate the leadership from Mr busenberg and Mrs almendinger because and their teams because we have really taken a look at those I will tell you there's not vast changes to the programs of the study but the conversation is starting for next year so you know what we offer but the changes this year that you'll see or this coming year becoming really a focus on what are we doing after high school and adopting a 712 approach so it's through that lens so really you know what we're focused on is one of three career Pathways and you'll see a better represented I think as we move forward here so you know students are either going to be enrolled in that some form of second or education out of high school they're going to

be um employed or enlisted in the military so one of the three Pathways so we're going to start a little more of a home Focus there I think at the seventh grade and we'll take that all the way through to 12. so more work to come there and there's some other refinements we've made one of the areas like psychology for example we've taken out and put that right into college credit plus that just makes more sense to do that but otherwise I'm sure you've seen all the other changes but I do appreciate a lot of work that's gone into this and uh Debbie seibel's LED this and then the building principles both of them and their team so that's all I have most of your questions I get emotion sorry can I get a second

I wasn't going to interrupt you you were doing well yeah a discussion three questions on this I do appreciate the work I appreciate the work there when we saw them in the curriculum meeting I could tell it was a lot more so I appreciate that and um just to ask I know like we talked about some of the edits did that did that happen like just little the minorities were corrected I know Kim you were looking at okay the misspelling in my name you mean that one oh yes I think I know that one was caught right and there was a couple others in there too and yes I know we took care of that that wasn't necessible by the way there's someone else and not Mrs almondinger I I would encourage hair and look

at the program studies it's going to be online they're it's not a drastic change but it's more concise you can see the pattern and um I was I was impressed by both of them thank you well I think there's you know we see text represented in their Welsh you see the two-year colleges are representing their cotc Columbus State all the pathways there too there's more work to become this is helping us build up even a stronger Foundation of what we have and I think the principles will be pushing those out to the parents after they're approved at some point we'll do that and I appreciate even the requests you did the program offering like the chart love the chart they did a lot of work they did a lot of work and then they made

an easy page for us to know what had changed thank you and then the final Mr bisenberg for example didn't put the index in yet because we're going to wait till the final and then we'll clean that up because you know that's always something that can get missed when you make changes so there'll be some finer final non-substantial edits that we'll clean them up just a side count I had a conversation with Dr Wagner about this today just about at the high school trying to use the program of studies to balance out some of our classroom you know as I always say butts and seats type of thing because you know we're heavy loaded in the morning light and some of these changes and as we move forward can help with some of those things

as well as we shift some opportunities there so the courses that we offer can obviously shift some of those uh where we're saying over but we're very very heavy in some classes especially when you look at the foreign languages and going to some of those classes at the beginning so offering some other things in the future can also help those so that's a further discussion to be had as we move forward in you know in a future years so this is to me it's program of studies but it also plays into a bigger picture of what we're trying to accomplish there at the school uh and make sure that we're adequately offering opportunities for the kids that way they're not choosing something just to take something you know I mean having brought enough but not

too broad of a an option so that's where it falls into one of the things with the program of studies that it shows you courses that could be offered but doesn't always show you the Cadence of when they're offered so Mr bozenberg has had a lot of discussion around that especially looking at the pathways and we're talking about how um you know this will unfold for some students as well too we use some scheduling software but it never takes you it can never get you completely across line because you have to look at a perspectives basically and figure out where you're trying to be at the end and then kind of back up from there so we've had a lab discussion more to come to about College and Career because we actually met again this

morning House Grand military I should say we've met again this morning and uh good discussions and we'll be maybe by March be able to talk to the board about some changes that we can do what I call addition by subtraction so it wouldn't increase any of the staff but it'd be a reapportioning of some staff and that's led by Mr busenberg and his team so more to come but exciting that'll match this booklet and its content yeah thank you very much any other questions comments call the roll Mr Benton yes Mrs Brewer yes Mrs Mrs yes yes resolution 23-02-029 is the mathematics Focus plan which was presented tonight can I get a motion all motion a second discussion um everything you've seen today I also want to highlight again the 30 an hour tutoring grade

is included in this any other questions comments I think we're well aware of this one call the roll Mr Button yes Davis yes Mr Swagger yes all right we have any other items from the board I'm going to your comments sure um I wanted to talk about I put a couple items here to discuss some of these are the first four are policy and I was hoping to engage in some dialogue with the board um there's four policies we're looking at right now and we'll talk about some other ones as well too the first one it was on sick leap and it's policy 1432 they actually has iterations there's a there's two other policies that will match the same but in our policy what it shows is that when a staff member uses leave they

cannot take in any less of an increment than half a day and what I'd like to see changed on that is if we can move that to a quarter day I think in this environment that makes a lot more sense had some very good conversations with the principals about that and talking about why that would help us and then also Katie Schaefer from the JEA has been working with her membership and they would be supportive of that change as well there's some Nuance with this if we had a change in this policy um it's harder to find quarter day Subs but it would be better utilization a time like sometimes being covered I'll give you the example like if you it just needed a couple hours you don't have to take a half a day

and then sometimes you know it just doesn't seem fair so I'm interested in any thoughts the board has about this and then there's you know we can talk about potential next steps me I just like you know when we talk about it for me I'd look at how many how often do we think what does it do it's a financial impact obviously of covering quarter days versus half days because you're gonna are you gonna do a half day sub for a quarter of a day every time or how do you cover just existing staff well we're gonna have to get more coordination so I don't think we're gonna people often won't even come for half a day but if they would sometimes it'll work I think we'd have to try and package that so you

come for your two quarter day sessions we just have to work that's right and just looking at how often will we be able to cover it you know and how those schedules seems to be awful hard to cover about quarter days well sometimes we cover it internally though too that's a compensation so that will be a little easier because you know somebody doesn't have to take we don't have to cover half a day if they only need two hours but they're you know allocated half days so those internal coverage should be easier and um less stressful on the sub pool and what we're trying to do and then on the quarter day is how do we pay internally for that is it by class on the current contract because that was a negotiated yeah sure

yeah well we can look at the financials behind that run some simulations any other thoughts or questions so would this be something that we're just going to be looking internally to cover quarter day so would this be something we should just be looking internally rather than try to get a substitute yeah I don't think we'll get a lot of it's hard to get half day Subs let alone so a lot of times the principals and their staff are lizardry there's about the way they can package these schedules and move things around and all it just gives us more flexibility so I don't think anyone's going to come in for a quarter day I think I'd be highly unlikely like I said even half day most people don't come Florence so you try to practice for

me I know we go to the period pay I just would want to make sure that we're not utilizing any of our teachers that would be supplemental help to some of our students like very smart that are available now they're covering another class and no longer available I mean that's what would concern me is just that yeah I mean just academic I know you know if you need to go it's very smart you need to go see the geometry teacher but now the geometry teacher is doing period pay to cover Spanish for a class or you know whatever now they're no longer available that'd be my concern just really it's just the educational impact making sure we wouldn't have that's a minimum or much of covering those that's a real issue right now that we

have irrespective of this quarter or half make a difference in fact this should lessen that a little bit I would say but that's a real struggle it's gotten a little bit better as our fill rates have improved with the sub pool but that's that's a constant challenge that's all I have thank you okay so there's another thoughts on that um then I might bring that back as early as March for the board like I said the teachers uh Katie's leading that and they're supportive events next one's a residency it's policy 511 um just a little discussion on this but I would tell you and this is just based on past experience I think we need to do more when it comes to residency ensuring that everyone we have in the district really um is within

the school district boundaries um there's really three ways people are here they buy rent or the court placed and the court place is sell them that it happens once in a while and um I'd like to step up some of our procedures I think one of the things that we need is a little support from a residency officer and I think we can partner with some area schools on that and probably get like 10 days I don't think it would cost us much probably thirty five hundred dollars would be a ballpark it's not that expensive for maybe probably be a maximum in 10 days but people to go out and help with investigations we're really beholding now to the bureaucratic process you just have paperwork to put things in perspective coming from a growing school

district and this is no exaggeration in the first two and a half years bigger School District we exited 360 students in two and a half years and as the district grows changes the community we're going to have to really make sure because I want to be responsible to our taxpayers to say people are here should be here any thoughts questions about bad ideas tried to handle it it's no it's not a fault of what's been done it's just we need more sophistication um not to uh I guess look too much behind the curtain but there are people that will help with the investigations there's more um sir you know thoroughness sometimes there's uh we do checks you know if we have red and stuff so you go to the house and you can check um

there would often be a way for families to call in and provide an anonymous tip so we can investigate um you know it's not pretty but it's something I'm seeing more and more and I think that we need to put more emphasis on a little we need more tools available bridge to voting records to the as one of the sources that we yeah we can the system here is good I'll say bureaucratically or um but it's not that hard to have paperwork aligned if you you know but we get the calls and it's hard sometimes like so and so is being dropped up at a bus stop and they know they're coming from out of the district and that doesn't happen a lot but there's a few of those in how do you how do

you manage that if all the paperwork shows there's bills and you know there's things we can talk to the city about too because I don't know what the ordinances are about multi-families in a single-family home but some communities will start to get on the front end of this and and look at that and we have an ordinance that prohibits that or there's a application process that for rentals and all too so just something I really believe we need to look at it no I mean it sounds like it's just a responsible thing to do for our taxpayers so uh we have to I mean especially you know as we've closed I see your next one's open enrollment but as we've talked you know as we've cut off open enrollment K through uh eight already it'd

be a little naive to not allow you know to say you can't open and roll here but then allow people to circumvent the system of plain residency that they don't have and enroll so I think we would owe it to everybody to um into those as well yeah um so I'll work on the residency most likely the next step will be looking at some additional tools like I said so probably a residency officer I'll work on that and then I'll bring that back to the board um I need the little Direction I need some direction on this one too we have a board policy 51 13 that's Interstate Roma's official title of the policy but it's really open enrollment as we call it as Mr Swagger said we do not have open enrollment K8 but

I was looking for some direction from the board Mrs Fargo and I were talking about what the wishes of the board are for the future as it stands right now for the upcoming school year we would still have a 912 option for open enrollment based on either some limitations on that so I wanted to start some dialogue see if there's an idea about where we want to move forward with this you know as we get to the Fuller classrooms and stuff it's hard for me as a board member to say we need to add a building we need to you know talk about expansion in the classrooms if we have open enrollment uh open enrollment works great financially for us until you have to add the classroom or add the teacher you know if the

teacher is teaching 22 people you had three kids in 25 you're not paying any more space you're not paying another teacher but as soon as we have to start adding a classroom adding a teacher or more it's a losing a venue for for our taxpayers here so I think we do need to watch the 9 through 12 and really watch our numbers there as we're getting you know as we start to get closer and closer to capacity and start phasing it in I no matter what we do I think we would phase it in like we did the others at least that'd be my preference where we didn't just we started kindergarten moved up each year we just added a year um I'm not necessarily saying next year but I think next year's the conversation

uh really looking at what the uh what the program of studies has done how we've balanced out but we are hitting some really full classrooms in certain subject areas that's when we look at that and I know you have foreign exchange students of the number I mean I'm just I think we really need to look at every aspect of residency open enrollment foreign exchange students all of those programs to make sure that we're providing the adequate space in education for the the students of the district first first and foremost so that's where I think we need to start the conversation on on nine through 12 and really rely on Dr Wagner and Kim to come back to us with the numbers and and look at when do we want to put it in again I'd

like to phase it in because I think it's the fair thing to do to to the uh students that are already here or planning on coming in but you know you send the message at least a year in advance saying hey next year we're going to Institute this that way then one's caught off guard and they understand that and if you really want to go here it'd give you a year and a half or so to move here you know if we go in that direction but I do think where the numbers are getting to be at the 9 through 12 we're not far off from having to to move that forward so I had asked Dr Wagner to have that conversation and start looking into it how does it work now um schedule does

an opening enrolled student take a spot a head of an adult just put it yeah we don't it doesn't look any different so it just is yeah it could potentially happen correct so they could potentially get closed out things and as long as Anna and I've been on the board we have set I agree I think we just need to talk with Derek to and look at numbers is it a percentage per class is it a number of students per class and just decide when do you feel like and start phasing it and as much as anything I just wanted to kind of put this out to the public that it's something that we will eventually be going to so if you're out there planning on open and rolling you know 9 through 12. is

probably only gonna you know and it's not gonna be much longer before we start phasing it out so be aware of that if you're a parent that's you know K8 planning on coming to Johnstown 9 through 12 you need to be aware that you're probably going to move into the district here in the near future if you've got a younger child that's hoping to you know come over here so I really just want as much as anything put it out to the public that this is coming it's not you know next year but it's very soon thereafter I anticipate that we start phasing the Open Enrollment out so I just want to make you know let everyone know that that's why I think we're going to end up so do you want me to study

at this coming school year for 23-24 and then we'll look for recommendations about this time next year I would or even earlier next year just to give parents enough time I don't think it'd be fair right now to make this decision for people that are already enrolled open enrolling for freshman year next year we know we have you know families and children that we're already planning on open and rolling next year and I think March is the deadline for that so I think this be awful late to pull the plug on something like that but yeah I'd say let everyone know that it's coming so that they have a few you know a couple of years at this point to move into the district um and again unless anyone on the board speaks otherwise I

think we would phase it in start out with ninth grade and then move up each year the 10th 11th and 12th that way we phase it out and you know the children that are here would remain until yeah that's more graduate students out like a program that would make sense um so we'll look probably the latter part of this year calendar year so we'll look at that and um I I think it's a good discussion I I think open realm is nice but remember in August when we started looking at enrollment projections and that's all pre-intel because we don't know what that it'll look like right now that high school starts to get very good get some larger classes yeah at the elementary level coming through so as they get up here we you know

we already see that and those kids are Johnstown residents already because we don't have the open enrollment so that number's not going to get smaller as it comes through large grade level fourth grade third and fourth third and fourth yeah third fourth and fifth oh Fifth Third and fifth okay yeah I knew we had a couple 140 classes coming through so you know it's quite large for us uh you know you bump up 20 kids in a class you multiply that by you know eight ten classes and all of a sudden your District's quite a bit larger so that's what we want to guide you know guard against all right so I have good direction on that um the next policy we have is 5114 and that's foreign exchange students we've typically Mr boonsberg had

a family commitment so he had to leave tonight but he was keeping me updated about things we typically have two to three students a year um this year we have two or this coming year two with one agency and one with another agency but just some general discussion around this Mr Swagger and I were talking if the board can give some direction to putting a cap per se or perhaps on uh foreign exchange students would be a discussion or is it discussion I just want to again approach the subject have the conversation start looking at is how do you cap it what do you do uh I think it's Mr cool cool isn't it that always has the two yeah it's been great to work with and always follows you know but other families and

folks start doing it how much is too much how many you know I don't think the two to three is a major concern but if you start getting many more we really want to look at how do we guide that conversation and where do we cut it off at and looking at uh because you're really talking 9 through 12. so how many at the high school where we're already starting to grow do we look at I want to encourage the foreign exchange program so I'm not saying we wouldn't want any it's just making sure we don't get too too many uh in that program what is that I don't know I could look at the policy on that if you ask for my recognition I really think we need to stay no more than three

um and I can I'll look at the policy but considering everything else we're looking at again August looking enrollment projections those haven't changed much open enrollment I think we have to have a consistent vessel so if you're okay with it I'll look at the policy and look at no more than three yeah and then also how are those three determined I mean not to sound like Mr pool's been great you get priority is it first come first serve you know really like looking at me I would give preference to the ones we've worked with already and have been successful sure uh some type of a grading or scoring system that would determine but also for you know parents out there if you're looking into getting foreign exchange students make sure you talk to the school

before you do that because we don't have an obligation I tell you that that's well said because there's been a few times where you know they're on the plane almost and we don't have any spotted right reserved for them so I've had that a few times other districts yeah all right well that gives me some direction anything else on those four policies um I just want to remind the board and and I just put out other District house we have others we're working on too that we have prioritized and then we have a policy meeting coming up the library this month so more to come um the policies are living and breathing though so you can see how important it is that we talk about this um lacrosse I wanted to give an update on

just because I know that the board recently sanctioned that as a support minister Brickner gave me an update and then they've held some interviews they only have well they have a process going forward I don't say too much about the interviews but um going through a reference check process right now and I imagine by the March board meeting we would have a recommendation the good news is that with Mr brickner's help and a volunteer we're actually shepherding the program along now so there's no official position and he's been working on that so any questions about lacrosse otherwise everything is good I should say from the equipment standpoint and everything programmatically organized it's just a matter of getting the coach and that's a critical piece sounds good thank you okay um as a public school you

know we have the levy in May so we have to be careful about what um you know we say and we can't be we have to be completely neutral but I've sent you an email with frequently asked questions if you have a few minutes and you can respond to that and this all just can be informational but that'll be what we put on the website Mr McDonald has been working on that I think we're on our fourth iteration of it already so try to think if you can like I talked to one of the board members today think about it through different lenses because there's a lot of change in the community so if you have some thoughts we'll try and answer them it's a q a obviously so do you have anything on there

please let me know any questions about what you've seen so far from a free class question good what we'll probably do is have that a rolling so as more questions come up we'll add to it and we'll address it and then I put a miscellaneous case there's anything else but I think that's all I have tonight unless you have questions you saw the Friday reports oh one thing I should say is we've been working a lot with General miles on that um this is Uber and I met a couple meetings last week um we're working with our team and then also one of the things that's important in the will is that we should be housing General miles effects and I think that makes us unique in this process many ways but we're actually looking

at and with Mrs Smith we're looking at a room in uh GIS where we have some space available Mr Jenny's involved with that and we think that we can adequately uh curate if you will and I think that'll be that'll be well done so more work there and again more procedural things I want to talk about um I'm going to be appropriate I talked about health insurance residency policies yeah I think we're pretty good in my supporters any questions for me I think we're good um we have a need for an executive session we do and we made a change before you got there we had the initial for personnel which was oh we did it Okay so we've read it into the records so we have the second uh one now for legal matters

as well sounds good um can I get a motion moving into executive session 606. any action expected afterwards no no action expected afterwards thank you Mr Benton yes Mrs yes Mrs Davis yes Mr Swagger yes Mrs Thomas
