for October 20th. Mr. Carmine. Yes. Mr. Hzel. Yes. Mrs. Hidinger. Yes. Mr. Ledley. Yes. Mr. Wingfield. Yes. Let's move on to item four with the principal and student showcase. This is KBS principal Robert Duds Annabelle Davis, Zoe Francis, Evelyn Hammacker, Sean Layman Canoe, and Jason Temple and also with Kent Middle School principal Kirk Cameron with student Ashki Smith. I'm gonna ask the elementary kiddos to come on up and stand here, which includes Annabelle and Sean, even though they aren't at the elementary anymore, but when they received this honor, it was then so these students here and Ashka coming up, which you'll get Mr. Cameron um all scored a perfect score on an Ohio State test in the spring of 2025. So that ined itself give us a round of applause. WOOHOO. SO, I asked each
of their teachers in the subject that they got this in um to tell me a little bit about each of them. And I asked each of them to tell me a little bit about that teacher. So, Zoe Francis, Zoe, step up here a second. She said she had Mrs. Grindell and she got a perfect score in math in the third grade. That Mrs. Gindelle used small groups to teach us and she liked that. And Mrs. Gindell said that Zoe is a hard worker. And Evelyn Hammaker, Evie, um she had Mrs. Howard and Mrs. H. Howard helped her focus and solve problems. Um Evie, she can move around really quick, but she can think really good, too. Mrs. Howard um described Eie as someone who's always up for a challenge. So, thanks Eie. And then our
third math um third grader would be Kasein Temple. And Kasein also had Mrs. Howard. And I caught him in the lunchroom and they were supposed to be quiet. He was looking at me like, "Why are you making me talk? You can talk to me. I could break the rules." And he said Mrs. Howard taught him multiplication. Like that was a no-brainer. And Mrs. Howard said she appreciated Kasein's hard work and positive attitude, which if you know Kase, he is always smiling at school. Thank you. Now, we did have a fourth grade math student that was Wesley Hanover. He no longer lives in Ohio. His mom actually taught for us, too. Um, but he did get a perfect score in fourth grade. So, some people who have moved on from us on to the sixth grade,
but in fifth grade, Annabelle Davis got a perfect score in math and Mrs. Keller was her teacher and she described Annabelle as resilient. Um, but I asked Annabelle as she came in because of course I didn't see her at school today, um, what she thought about Mrs. Keller being her teacher, and I loved her answer. She said, "The way she phrased things helped me understand it more." um truly why these people are getting this honor today. Um and then Sean Layman Canode, he also is a current sixth grader. He scored a perfect score in science in the fifth grade and he had Mrs. Sherman and Mrs. Sherman characterized Shawn as independent. Um and I absolutely love Shawn's answer to on why he thinks Mrs. Sherman helped him get a perfect score. He said Mrs. Sherman
made learning fun. She actually made me want to pay attention, which I thought was great. Thank you. Just real quickly before I let you go sit down, I'd just like to express my pride and appreciation in the hard work and persever perseverance that these students have shown. And I'd like to challenge each of you to continue to strive for excellence and see learning as a stepping stone to your future. Um, there's no gotcha here. You don't have to always score a perfect score, you know. Um, but you've shown that you can and have risen to meet a tough challenge. So, may that always be a reminder reminder that you're capable of anything, even a little dancing. Right. All right. You may go. Thank you. And I'd like to uh go on and ask Ash Kai
Smith to come up here. Um he is currently a freshman at the high school. Uh but Ashkai had kind of a storied uh time through middle school. Um he took the uh I think it was the seventh grade benchmark as he left sixth grade. Does that sound right? And scored per Well, no, I'm sorry. He missed one, but after he had completed the benchmark here locally, uh he said, "Yeah, I knew I missed it as soon as I put it in there." So we started him in seventh grade advanced math. And I think by no uh October we're like as a seventh grader we need to push him up to algebra which is normally our accelerated for eighth graders. So he's now double accelerated. Um so then as an eighth grader last year we had
to provide transportation. Sometimes it was fun waiting on the bus, right? Um but uh he went over to the high school and took geometry uh with uh um Mrs. Bomb. And so when testing time came, we decided to go on and just let him test with the algebra kids uh because we just had to open that up in the system and it was not a big deal. And it was a couple days maybe earlier in the week than the high school was going to be testing. And so Mrs. Bomb was kind of upset that she wanted to kind of crash course with Ashkai a little bit, making sure, hey, don't forget about this and this. And she didn't have the time to do that. and um dog gone it he went and hit a home
run and got a perfect score on geometry assessment. So uh pretty phenomenal. I don't know if uh I mean I I had a student when I taught a number of years ago that it just clicks and Ashai's got it and so and he does a lot a lot of hard work and just overall great kid. So want to congratulate Ashkai for uh some uh stellar scores here. Appreciate it young man. AWESOME. I COULD have real. Good. Good. Looks really good. All right. Ready? One, two, three. Oh, sorry. Stay right there for me and we'll let you guys Students and parents, you're welcome to stay for the rest of the year if you like, but also if you want to go to Thank you very much. That door open right here. Yeah. Can you prop the
door open? Cool air. Full sweater was not the choice that I had my sweatshirt on. I was wearing no public participation today it looks like. Nope. Now remember, we're going to have this motion for these and then we're having a motion for K as well before we move on. So, this is all for this and then this one's by itself. All right. I don't think there was any anybody signed up for the public disc. They're all gone. So, we'll move on to item number six. What's it? Uh, reports of the treasur. Um, just as clarification on 10G um for estimated resources, I'm amending those as I overestimated and Mr. Bacon told me that I need to readjust those numbers. So, there's that. And then on 10H, um, we've got the cash in there. It's just
I'm upping our appropriations for expenses. So that's it. All right. Thanks, Jill. Okay. Item number seven. Motion to motion to Thank you. vote. Uh, Mr. Hunel, yes. Mrs. Hidinger, yes. Mr. Ledley, yes. Mr. Wingfield, yes. Mr. Carmen, yes, ma'am. Okay. Item number seven, superintendent reports. Uh, yes. So, the main thing I just wanted to let the board know, you were all there. First of all, thank you for coming uh last night. That was really exciting. Thanks to the community for coming out like they did. Uh packed the pack. Uh the performing arts center was full. Had people standing room only. Had to do overflow into the cafeteria area. Just lots of very positive comments. And so, just really excited about last night. I I it was hard not to even get emotional sometimes just seeing
what is going to be provided for our students in the future. So that was fantastic. But as fun as that was, as great as that was, I wish that all of you could have been there today to see when the middle and high school kids came through uh to see it themselves and go through their schedules and that kind of stuff because they were they were in there before to sign the gym floor, but at that time most of it wasn't even close to finished on the inside. So it was kind of hard to really see what it was going to look like. But uh to watch them walk in the door and see the huge screens and things and the stuff playing with their pictures on it. You know, it's them playing sports and
doing the top 20 and all the different things that that they have available to them, but also then as they continue to go through to to stand in the performing arts and see them walk in there to stand in the gym and just see the faces and I mean, you know, kiding each other and saying, "Can you believe this?" Uh, it was really neat. And then to see the middle school kids, too. Uh, just it was it was Again, just thank you to the community. Thank you to the board just for making this a real possibility for for our kids now, but for the future. So, thank you. Thanks, Chad. I think I thought yesterday went real well and organized like it was couldn't have been Yeah. any better. So, good job, Colt. His bar
was nobody died. That's a pretty low bar. I mean the band there doing it was like yeah great great attention to detail thing one time and Colt said you run the school district let me run at all yeah I I just I don't think it could probably said be said enough but yeah it's just uh just on behalf of the board we're just very thankful and and grateful to the to for the generosity and the support of this community and to the generosity of Rodney for donating the concrete. I mean, it's the outpouring is just been amazing and we're just very humbled and and grateful to this community. So, thank you. Also, I had asked him if there's anywhere where you can watch that ceremony and he said on YouTube. Just go to YouTube Kent
City Schools and you can watch that whole thing online. All right, let's move on to item 8 board committee reports. Was there any committee? Extracurricular met athletics were the three categories in that committee. There were three things that each one of them wanted for me to highlight today. So I want to make sure touch on each one of those. U but the band uh Travis Rman presented to us some things that that not only has happened recently, you know, some stuff coming up. They are planning on um creating a Harden County honor band. Um there'll be more about that coming. They don't have all the specifics on that yet, but it will be for Harden County, not just so that'll be something coming up. He's got some details that he will roll out to us
eventually, but it's not being yet. Also, uh they're really starting to prepare for the new performing arts center. Some of the things that they're going to be doing in there um with the band. They're going to have all kinds of room on stage now. So, they're excited to maybe get the middle school and the high school band together a lot more uh for performances, which will be super cool. And then they also recently participated in the Buckeye Invitational performance which is actually something that they do down in Columbus at the shoot. They were kind of like a fill-in band this year. So they weren't that was being rated or graded. Uh but the the experience for the kids to to be in the shoe and hear the LSU marching band come in and perform and
all the other bands within the state were out there. really enjoyed that experience. So, um they look forward to maybe possibly getting a invitation for them to participate in the future, but they were just kind of this year. The vocal department presented to us, you know, three things that he wanted to mention is the musical that's coming up April 10th through the 12th. It's going to be Mary Poppins this year. Um, and they're extremely excited to announce that Mary Poppins will be flying in and out. So, it'll be something with the new performing arts center that'll be definitely interested in in looking at and watching. So, I would urge the the community to to snatch up those tickets when they become available. So, um, also Dimensions is really, you know, the the vocal department's really
growing with the band is as well, but Dimensions this year is up to 37 members when last year they were at 24. So, they're super excited about the upcoming events for them. Um, and then the the the next big thing is the Kenton Cup, second annual Kenton Cup. They started it last year. Last year they had a few schools involved. I think there was maybe 10, 12 groups. This year they've already uh got commitments from 26 groups, 18 different schools. Wow. Um so they're over doubling in size this year for the Kent Cop. So that's awesome. Um which is amazing. And that's going to be on February 20th and 20day two-day event this year. Um so if you want to be announce that athletics, uh Brecell was in um you know cross country team did
really good this year. um two outstanding performers. Addie Mans was ended up all Ohio um and sixth in state competition this year. She actually set a course rep record for the WBL course and she was the WBL champion this year. Uh which is amazing for Addie. And her younger brother Wade I believe is a sophomore. Um he actually ended up 41st instate uh boys competition this year and he's really just one second off of the Kenton uh record that is actually held by uh Todd Black from my day in school. He actually graduated with me so it's held for a long time but he's only one second away and he's just a sophomore. So that might go down in the next couple of years. So we're looking forward to looking forward to way maybe making
that happen. um had our first inaugural Hall of Fame inductees this year that they celebrated at one of the home games. Um which pretty amazing to see some of the older athletes and you know um it it was pretty interesting. I got to meet a couple of my guys from my class that was inducted, but even the older generation people that I met that you you saw them on this, you know, the boards and stuff, but you kind of got to meet them in person and have a conversation. That that was really cool. Um, and then really the only other thing that he wanted to mention is, you know, athletics moving into the new building. Um, it might be a little bit of he's just asking for some some patience and some grace because now
we've got new facilities that we have to schedule practices and games and and all that kind of stuff in. So, he just wanted me to mention that. So, but that was it for extracurricular. Thanks, Doug, for all that update. Uh, let's see. Uh, item number nine, there was no old business. So, moving on to new business, uh, authorizations and resolutions. Um, item 10A is to approve the following donations. And you can see there's a pretty good pretty good list there. So, as as always, we're just always really grateful for all of those donations that uh, we receive. Um, item 10B is to approve contract through accounts payable with Tom McReer for Rifle Club. Um, item 10 C is to approve the following agreement between Midwest Regional ESC and Kent City Schools uh for Andrew Hobenack
uh for instructional assistance services. Um item 10D is to approve the review of the wellness policy. Um item 10E is to approve the updated cost for Health Partners of Western Ohio for the 202526 school year. Um item 10 F is to approve theou between Oopsy and Kenton City Schools for the Grow Your Own Teacher Apprenticeship Program. Um, item 10G is to approve the uh the certificate of estimated resources which Jill talked about earlier. Um, same with same with item 10H to approve the following amendment of appropriations. Um, item 10 I is to approve the Kitten High School band and choir trip to Orlando, Florida, uh, March 19th through the 25th of 2027. Um, item 10J is to approve the MOU between the board of trustees of Pleasant Township, uh, Kittton City School District and the
Harden County Sheriff's Department to provide traffic control in the vicinity of Township Road 114 and State Route 53. Um, and is there any discussion on any of that four? A motion. Thanks, Tasha. Second. Thanks, Brad. vote. Mr. Ledley, yes. Mr. Wingfield, yes. Mr. Carmine, yes. Mr. Hunel, yes. Mrs. Heidinger, yes. Okay. Item 10K is to approve the following resolution um authorizing license agreement for the locker/public restroom project at Kenton High School. And a motion for that to accept. Thanks, Doug. Second.
