001I call this meeting the bread board of education to order. Treasurer please call the role. >> Mrs. Anzel >> here. >> Mr. Gamblin >> here. >> Mr. Gibson >> here. >> Mr. Shut >> here. >> Mr. Soul >> here. And if you stand and join me in the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. >> Okay. The first order of business is the superintendent report. Okay. Um any updates from the cafeteria board? >> All right. So, you saw the uh claims were posted in the floor. you can check those out and compare those to prior months. Uh in the area of finance, I do

002want to make you aware that uh we have started to receive our first half of our property advances. The way this typically works is um when the bills go out then gradually about a week later to 10 days later um the auditor's office starts to disperse advancements to school districts and other public entities. that we have received two weeks in a row now um advances and then what'll happen is as you know taxes were all due on I think the due date was Friday and we'll probably get another level uh advancement this week and then probably the following week if if that's sufficient time for the auditor's office then they do what's called settlement where they'll give us the remaining amount of the taxes that were collected for us and every other government entity so

003a lot of you would have noticed on your tax bill this year that they the treasur's office was warning you about not that I pay a full year at a time but they were saying don't if you pay your taxes a full year at a time know that your taxes could change in the second half and that's because of house bill 186 bill 186 passed by the legislature cap the growth for districts on the 20 mil floor or on inside millillage and then the key is that it made it retroactive to last year, which means that in this year, there's going to be some tax credits coming to property owners based on that, but it's not until the second half of the year. So, in the second half of the year, individual property owners are

004going to see a change in their tax bill that's likely lower unless they made some improvements. I mean, if a homeowner went out and put a $30,000 addition on, they're not going to see their taxes go down because of that. But if it's the same house with any prop without any property improvement, they're likely to see their tax bill go down. And then what happens to us as a district, the states came out when they passed House Bill 186 and said, "We are going to get rid of the sales tax holiday." So that's not happening this year. They are going to use the revenue that typically was lost from collecting that sales tax for those that weekend period and they're going to use that to backfill schools in the state of Ohio. We would be

005one of them that would lose that revenue. So, they're going to hold schools harmless for two years using that sales tax holiday revenue that they're going to start to collect again. And then schools should not see any drop in funding from that local property tax credit that's going to be extended. So, um, just know that that's kind of the big change that's happening in the property tax in addition to what the county commissioners can do. That's one that is already in law and will be happening and is is pertinent because we're getting our tax bills, we're paying it, but we're going to see a change as individuals in August, but the districts should not see any change because of how the state will backfill that loss with other revenues. Okay. Go ahead. >> Yeah. But

006the way typically should work, you know, we should have got our tax bills a lot quicker than we did. So, usually um well, a few years back, uh used to receive advances in January, February, January, February, and and March in your settlement. So in the uh one of the reports I provided the uh monthly financial plan the um the graph on the top left shows actual revenues compared to forecasted revenues. So I forecast receiving uh of that 55% split for this half collections I had like 18% going in January, 18% in February, 8% in March. And we didn't receive any in January. We only received like 5% in February. So that's why the uh dark line is a lot lower than the uh shaded line because our actuals are not hitting where our uh forecast

007was. Now that is expected in March be you know right sized. I just want to bring that up why those lines are a little off. Another piece of legislation that was introduced I I believe it was late last week. it might have been even today. Um was House Bill 715 and that bill is an accountability bill for private schools in the $1.1 billion voucher program. So that has been one of the things that while we're not fully funding the fair school funding formula and we've increased money going to private schools, there has been a call and a consistent call for make the playing field level and make make it so that taxpayer dollars we have a billion dollars of taxpayer funds going to unaccountable private schools. Where's the transparency? uh and so put them on

008the same transparency field level field as we have public school districts. So this bill looks to do that by at least creating a report card and some level of fiscal accountability. Uh but this is not the first attempt to hold private schools accountable for being transparent with taxpayer funds. So uh tongue and cheek a lot of people will wait and see where this goes. Prior attempts have failed and they never made it into law. a lot to think that accountability is a a pipe dream in the state of Ohio, that there's not the political will to do that. Um, however, with the court striking down the ED voucher program and saying it's unconstitutional, there are some um saying that politically the Columbus might need to give in on some of the accountability measures because uh

009they realize that, you know, the tide is not in their favor and public sentiment is to to create some accountability for all those dollars. So, we'll see where that goes, but I don't hold out a lot of hope personally because prior attempts to do this with legislation have stalled in the general assembly, but definitely something that that is needed when we're doing that kind of money. Uh, in the areas of facilities and transportation, I will tell you had some email communication last week. I didn't have any actually. And then a phone call on Friday, got the voicemail. So, I called the architect um asked him to put some pressure. that I called rock builders today and actually picked up and I tried to stress the urgency of getting this finished and getting our track cleaned

010up as we have our teams getting ready to practice. So, uh that is something that um you know hopefully at least on the cleaning up part getting the snow fence down getting the stuff that is an obstruction on the track out of the way. We have about five or six punch list items left. Uh most of that is some trim and some metal. They got the LED lights are all up. they're operational. Um, but then we also are going to wait on uh for the drainage and we want to look at piping that those down spouts off the back of that to the far to the far side. We have a sideline drain there that would be easy to tap into and there's no obstruction in the ground regarding like electrical wires or any kind

011of contact. So, we'll we'll wait. We should get that quote soon, but uh they said this week they can get out here and clean that up. So, we're going to we're going to keep pressing uh to do that. Uh the other thing is with the weather starting to change, just know that Scott White, our maintenance guy, will be like today, spent all day on the fields. Came in this or this afternoon. You'll notice our baseball team's out there, practice on the field, the softball field. I think our girls team got out there today as well. So, um this week is a good week for that. And our fields are good drainage. We got them ready. uh know that that's a be a lot of focus in the next two months. A lot of what Scott

012does as our maintenance person will be about getting our kids on the field. So, and sometimes, in fact, many times with our driving situation, he'll he'll be on a bus and when he's on a bus and he has limited hours to be on the field, those tend to top priorities in addition to handling maintenance issues on the inside when it comes to classroom and facility operations. So, why do I tell you that? I wanted to tell you where the focus is because we always want kids on fields as much as we can so that we can stick to our schedules. The other reason I tell you that is you're going to see um other performance issues be less of a priority. So just know that um he's working and he's he's focused on those things

013that we've got to give priority to and then a lot of it what we will get to is is when the schedule's led up. >> Uh can I ask a question? When is the spring cleanup for the beds? >> For the what? >> For the beds. >> We That's my point. we we won't have that something scheduled. You're a oneman show. We can't he doesn't have the time to do that. That's why we're always behind the eight-fold when it comes to the summer. Okay. >> So, now if we're able to get some summer or not summer, but if we're able to get some part-time help and sometimes we can uh or sometimes if we notice certain things or hey, if we need to get that particular thing because we it it needs attention because it's

014so obvious, we'll do it. But in terms of a meticulous bed cleaning, that won't happen prior to the end of the school unless there's just something that we see that's like, hey, that that's something that's so obvious we got to get out of there and >> mulch and mulch, too. >> Doesn't happen until mulch >> and weeding. Okay. Yeah. Interesting. >> The only other option is for us to contract that out >> and you know, then that becomes an issue of if we're patient, do we pay for it or do we just do it on our own? And that that's where you it's a costbenefit analysis of that. Uh as far as the area of students, you know, some congratulations in order for our MVAC champions. We had three winner teams claim a conference crown.

015Uh the girls basketball team just our last meeting here beat Cresview um on our home court. And you know that's something that I don't think our girls team had accomplished. And so you know they Crest has a great girls program. Our girls beat them in an awesome contest and in doing so, you know, we get a share of the crown with Crest. They had one league loss, we have a league loss and, uh, we share the crown and it's the first girls conference title in 44 years. So, um, great accomplishment for them. Also, our boys, um, you know, had a great season of of perseverance and grit, and we had a four-way tie for the conference championship. It seems like between Brookfield, LBRE, uh, Southeast Newton Falls, we all beat each other up at least

016once and were able to split the conference. That's really, um, speaks to the level of competition among those four teams because all four teams have really good basketball teams, but oftent times, um, you know, it it only comes down to one or two teams. So, it's rare to see a four-way tie. U, but we all end up sharing in that crown. So the most interesting thing about the boys team is that's four four in a row. They won four conference titles in a row. And then the boys bowling team also by a couple hundred pins, maybe just a little bit less than a couple hundred pins beat champion and they ended up um you know the boys bowling champion of the MVAC gray tier and I think that is two in a row for them.

017So and I think the time that they won it before that was 2022. So we've had a good run of boys bowling success over the last several years. So, congratulations to those teams. Uh, just a reminder that next Wednesday on the 18th is our spaghetti dinner band concert fundraiser. I believe the football boosters are putting on the spaghetti dinner and the band boosters are doing obviously the gift baskets and raffle tickets and so forth. And of course, our students are uh will be performing. I think the first concert starts at around 4 4:30 or 4:45 and then they go like every 45 minutes. So, uh, so that's always a big event and, uh, we do it every year. If you're able to make it, please consider that. Over the weekend, we had Valor the Viking

018at the Eastwood Mall for the Youngsttown Clothing Company fashion show. We also had Jessica Gentry, a senior, participate in that. Um, Valor the Viking was uh, represented by Kenny Yoho. So Jessica and uh Kenny participated that on in on Saturday and uh great kids to represent Lra Schools. And last but not least with students, we start our testing season and we'll start that tomorrow with the ACT test that we administer free of charge to our juniors. So state mandates we pass that or administer that test. So, um I know we're uh we do this annually in March and I know our senior or juniors, excuse me, are excited to get that underway. For some, it might be the first time they take it. For others, it might be the second or third time they take

019it. So, it's a great opportunity for those types of kids to get another test administration out of the way to see if they can improve upon their on their scores. And last but not least, a couple miscellaneous items. Um on Wednesday we'll we'll go before the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Um Mr. Starky High School principal, Mr. Road, Middle School principal, myself. Uh remember we submitted an application to join that league because the current NBA is kind of dissolving. Uh we've had a lot of turmoil with the change league and so we are seeking a new home with uh Brookfield and Lret um all presenting to the Knack on Wednesday to to see if they will admit us uh into the league. So we'll keep you up to date as to what what might transpire there and

020then Mr. Soul turn it over to you for uh honoring our students who attend this. >> Okay. What I'm going to be presenting is certificate for recognition students of the month. And these were students were picked by their principal and their staff and kind of recognize them for not just being a good student but also being a good student helper and helping their fellow students, you know, in their class and stuff. So they go above and beyond, you know, working for themselves and try to help other people. So we want to make sure we recognize them, give them a certificate. I'm going to call your name. If I mispronounce it, please correct me. And then when you get your certificate, once you meet over there, then we'll take some pictures. We'll let all the parents

021take pictures also. So, first for Baskam Elementary, first grade, Jackson, that's Mitchell. Okay. A very intermediate fourth grade, Jade Powick. for fifth grade. Gabriella Marsh, sixth grade, Catalina Sigora. Sixth grade, Rosalie. Seventh grade, Aiden Sh. And 10th grade, Daisy Peace. Anybody I missed? All right. Take a picture and then all your parents can come and take a picture. question. >> We appreciate your effort. Thank you very much. We're going to go on for the rest of the meeting. You guys don't feel obligated. You have to stay. I know it's kind of a special event. So, you're free to go. Go enjoy the weather while we sit here. Thank you. How you doing? One second. Okay. Next we go to public participation. You have the opportunity to speak. We just ask you to stand, recognize, and

022give your address and make your comments. Anyone? >> Okay, we'll move into our regular agenda items. We'll turn it back over to Mr. Ask the board consider the approval of the minutes from its regular meeting on February 12th, 2026 and the special meeting on February 25th, 2026. So moved. >> Second one, second Gibson. Any discussion? >> Yeah, I'd like uh I'd like to discuss a little bit on the minutes from the last uh special meeting. Um I kind of went over what was written about my comments and I'm not sure we hit the mark there. Um I'd like to implement a process for the board to share evaluations with each member regarding uh the job evaluation process so that there is a sense of collaborate collab collective as a board so that that I and

023we can gauge that not having that shared information is dysfunctional and I just want to make sure that that statement gets inserted into those minutes because that's basically a summary of why I was asking questions and what I was getting at and I think which was understood by what mrs gave a gave your thoughts and comments and what I was trying to say and that was it and I don't see that in the minutes exactly. >> Okay. Um well what I understood from that comment and we can definitely address that was that >> if I remember how do we know what the other board members shared? We don't see >> that. So the the phrase you used I think was the what's the collective mind of the board? How do we know that? And that's

024where we talked about sharing back out. Right. >> What I hear you saying now is more of a collaborative process in developing that. Is that correct? >> No. No. It's actually what your your first statement. It's just that I I wanted to make sure that in the minutes that it wasn't just that I was asking questions. I made some statements about about that that the the upshot of it all is that we should be able to in some way share this which we >> we actually did afterwards because uh Mr. So, we'll send out um the the combined um >> findings of the of all of our evaluations and as far as I understood that that's not something that we would typically have done. Is that correct? >> We haven't done it in the past.

025>> Yeah. So, as long as we continue to do that. So then the next question is do we need to insert that into our you know um into our process somewhere in writing to make sure that keeps happening or not. Now >> I I don't know that we need to. I just think it's >> it's up to >> it becomes I mean if if it's not a problem I don't think you have to. If we're setting a new expectation of protocol moving forward >> then I think it becomes an issue of just make sure the protocol happens the expectations >> anytime you can ask for any of the information. >> Yeah. >> You've done and again it wasn't just me asking for one of the presidents of the right here. >> Yeah. My point wasn't

026just that I need the information is that I think we need to the information together. I think that makes us a much much more functional um >> yeah you're processor oriented on that is what you're saying. >> Yeah. >> So I think what we have to do here if I hear you correctly is we should be making a motion to amend the minutes. >> Well, right. >> I don't know. I think we should just make a motion to vote on the to to to uh um approve the regular meeting and then I can >> Well, there's already a motion on the floor so we can probably make a motion to revise the resolution. Okay. >> Yeah. >> So that it excludes the special >> minutes and we can come back with the in the next

027meeting with those minutes. >> Yeah. >> Or we can make a motion right now to amend the minutes. How what do you want to do? >> Uh I think we should record next meeting. Okay. So, >> and then you and I can talk you maybe talk about >> Okay. I I would since you're bringing this up, >> you would be responsible for because we're we're discussing the resolution >> Robert's rules. You would make a motion to revise this resolution. >> I'd like to make a motion to revise the resolution regarding accepting the previous meetings minutes. >> So, we're only accepting the minutes of the regular. >> Correct. Right. >> And then and then Brad uh Mr. Panic and I can get together. >> Yeah. >> On my little insert there. Go. >> Okay. >> So,

028so we're clear. We need a second. >> This was a good thing. Second. >> All right. Got Mr. Gibson on the second. So, >> by Mr. Shut, second by Mr. Gibson. >> Yep. We have a motion on the floor by Mrs. Shut, seconded by Mr. Gibson to revise the resolution as presented so that it reflects that we're only approving the minutes of the regular board meeting from February 12th 12th, 2026 and excluding the approval of the February 25th minutes. >> Okay. Any discussion? All right. Treasurer, please call the role. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mrs. Anselo, I'm sorry. Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Ansel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. Motion carries 5-0. >> So keep in mind now all we did was amend the resolution. Now

029we actually have to vote on the resolution. >> So I need a motion to approve the minutes from the February 12th, 2026 meeting. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by M. Dancell. Second by Mrs. Shut. Any discussion? >> Treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Nel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamblin, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. Motion carries 5-0. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation that the board approve the February financial report as presented by the treasury. So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by Mrs. Ancel second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? Uh just like a quick note I guess sometimes well every time when the when payroll is so late in the month of January of February February 27th you'll

030see there's a a you know a big uh sort of balancing item and that's us uh all the taxes and STRS and STS and that's the biggest thing uh being recorded as expenses in the month but then not being paid through the bank until uh March. So that's why there's a big $280,000 like balancing issue. That should all get fixed. >> So it's just acred then doesn't show up exactly taken out till the next >> Exactly. Yeah. You know, because payroll is the 27th, so nothing at the bank on the 28th Saturday, >> right? >> Okay. >> And also know that uh because we have, you know, a lot of school districts are so reliant on local property tax revenue. One of the things that we have going to our advantage is we're able to

031at least most of the time cover payroll with just state foundation dollars. But as you're paying bills for services and purchased items and you're paying payroll, there are times when your cash threshold gets to be too low that you need to transfer money into your checking account just like we might do at home, right? Take money out of our savings because it's particular things are going on in the month and then to move money in. So, we've had to do that uh out of that ICS account, our savings account with Huntington. So, we're not earning money on the interest on that because we've had to move several hundred,000 in until we started receiving some property tax collections. And so, what Mr. Japanic will do is once we settle with the county and they send us

032all of our top tax revenue, we'll be able to restore some of that money back so and have enough of a buffer in our checking account with the foundation money coming in that we can then start to get interest on that. That interest rate right now is 3.05%. So, still a good interest rate and we don't think rates are going to change here over the next few months, but he won't be able to restore that until we get property tax settlements. Just as an FYI on the logistics. >> Okay. Treasurer, please call the role. Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gler, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. S. >> Yes. Motion carries. 5-0. >> Uh, next item on agenda is a recommendation that the board approve the

033revised fiscal year 2026 excess cost foundation contract with the ESC or $1,550,000 to be deducted from state foundation payments to school district. So moved >> second motion by Mrs. Ancel second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? >> A lot of this is because of increased days for multiple disability students. We have more students therefore there's more days and we also have more students in the emotionally disturbed class and there's more days there as well. So uh that number is increased by $100,000 from where it is this year. And one of the reasons we're doing that is let's take the money out now gradually two times a month out of our foundation as opposed to coming back in August and realizing we got one big check we have to cut. So lot less pace treasurer please call

034the role. >> Mr. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. Motion carries 5. Next item on the agenda is a recommendation that the board pass the following resolution from the budget commission. It's about setting our rates and revenues and resources. This is a formality that we do every year. Uh you have a copy of the resolution specifically that we'll have to submit back to them. Mr. Panic will certify it and they'll drop off a copy uh to the to the auditor's office. So you can see um on the the next page the the revenue expected based on the millillage that we have but keeping in mind we won't collect that much money uh because we have probably about a

03510% delinquency rate. So but required by law we do it every year and we need your approval so we can certify it and get it back to the aud Mr. Gamma second by Mrs. Anel. Any discussion? >> Treasurer, please call the role. >> Mr. Gamblin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> Yes. Motion carries by Zero. Uh, next item on the agenda is a recommendation to board authorize the administration of the Ohio State test in paper format uh, next school year. And you can see the list there. Uh, all of our third grade test from the fall reading test to the ELA and the math test in the spring. We want to administer paper. This will be our third year in a row with this. >>

036So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by Mr. Gamblin second by Mrs. Vansel. Any discussion? >> How many other schools in our district or in our area do you know? >> I think we're about somewhere, you know, a little over half dozen. Maybe it's like seven or eight or one, I think. So, >> thank you. Treasure, please call the role. Mr. Gamblin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Anel. >> Yes. Mr. Shut. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. S, >> yes. Motion carries 5-0. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation to board approve the electricity purchasing agreement with the Ohio school councils and resolve to authorize the OSC uh to execute the request for proposals on behalf of the Bray and that we're going to be committing to the terms and conditions of

037the energy supplier selected through the school council's bid process. >> So moved. >> Second. Motion by Mrs. Dancel, second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? >> Now, the big difference between this agreement is that we're already getting it in place because the current contract, which we approved last year, runs through 2027 and this is part of the power for schools program and it's, you know, the the electricity market right now is very volatile. Um, if you pay attention to your home electric bill, you would have noticed that. Uh, and so that caught me by surprise in December and then I started paying closer attention like what the heck happened and so we get purchasing consortium discounts because we're in this power for schools and we have to come back periodically and re renew this contract. This

038will create more of a revolving process and give the school council the ability to represent us as a member on future contracts as well. So we should have to do this le less often. We've been in as long as I've been here, we've been in the power for schools program and paid a discount rate for electricity compared to what's paid in the commercial market. >> Thank you. >> Treasur, please call. >> Mr. Sam, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mr. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. S, >> yes. Motion carries 5-0. Uh, >> next item on my agenda is a recommendation to board approve a revised retirement date for Martin County and intermediate school principal uh for June 30th, 2026. change from the previously approved retirement date of July

03931st, 2026. >> So move >> second motion by Mrs. Shut second by Mr. Gamlin. Any discussion? >> Please call a role. >> Mr. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Nelson, >> yes. >> Mr. S. >> Yes. Motion carries. The next item on the agenda is a recommendation that the board accept the retirement uh resignation of Terry Guerell, classified employee effective February 23rd, 2026. >> So moved. >> Second motion by Mr. Gibson and second by Mrs. Any discussion? Sorry to see you see you go, but she has other issues. So sure good luck in her retirement. Treasur Mr. Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mrs. Amsel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Hamlin, >> yes. >> Mr. Sto, >> yes. Motion carries 51. >> Next

040item on the agenda is a recommendation of board accept the resignation of Brian Pashotti, a classified employee uh who was serving as complex custodian effective March 1st, 2026. >> So moved. Second. >> Motion by Mrs. Ancel, second by Mrs. Shutton. Any discussion? >> Treasure, please call the role. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gan, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. Motion carries 5 Z. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation the board accept the resignation of Declan Simble as the junior high boys track coach effective meeting. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by Mr. Anel. Second by Mrs. Shut. Any discussion? >> Treasurer, please call the role. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamblin,

041>> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. Motion carries 5-0. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation the board accept the resignation of Bethany Browder classified position as a bus driver effective March 13, 2026. >> So move second. >> Motion by Mrs. Schutz, second by Mrs. Vanell. Any discussion? >> Make sure you tell all your friends we're still looking for bus drivers. >> We got a few in the pilot we're working on. >> Hope they work out. Treasure, please call the role. Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mrs. Samson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Camp, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion carries 5 Z. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation of board approve the employment of classified substitute Jared Broadwater as a

042substitute driver at an hourly rate of $19 for driving substitute routes and field and athletic trips. And that will be effective March 9th, 2026. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by Mr. G. in mind that any discussion glad we can get somebody to help out a little bit at least. >> That's going to be critical especially with spring >> coming baseball softball track trips. >> Hope it'll help us out and reduce the workload. >> Treasure, please call the role. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Sult, >> yes. Motion carries 5. Uh, next item on the agenda is a recommendation that the board approve the employment of uh, Jennifer Woodford as a substitute aid that the board approved PDM

043uh, on an as needed basis and that also will be effective March 9th, 2026. >> So moved. >> Second by Mrs. Anel second Mrs. Shut. Any discussion? >> Treasure, please call the role. Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Hamlin, >> yes. Mr. Yes, she carries 5-0. >> Next item on the agenda is a recommendation to board approve following athletic supplemental positions. This actually should say for the 25 26 school year. So, make sure we uh correct that if you catch that edit. Uh and we're looking for track for the boys, seventh and eighth grade. Uh Mr. John Wolfford, uh we appreciate him stepping up to fill that void. And then also for seventh and eighth grade, we're going to have half a contract to Johnny

044Elliot. uh we were neither secured under coach. We've done this in the past where he takes on those additional responsibilities and we get an appropriated contract for that effort. So looking for you to approve those two contracts. >> So moved >> second motion by Mrs. Anel, second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? >> Treasurer, please call the role. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamblin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shot, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion carries by zero. >> Next item on agenda is a recommendation the board approve the following administrative athletic event manager positions and the corresponding payments for fiscal year 2027. So you see the list there before you. Um and so uh the only change was the baseball softball uh including some additional responsibilities. Uh outside

045of that everything else is the same as last year. Um and as we transition with structure this will be instrumental in that. So moved >> second motion by Mrs. Anel, second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? >> Yeah. Um, this this seems to be working pretty well. I know it's the athletic manager position is a fairly newer position. So you you you would say that this is working out pretty good having this. >> Yeah. Uh, you know, ideally what we had before I think was the best. >> Yeah. uh to have a full-time administrator who also took on the role of the AD. However, I don't know if that was feasible or practical in light of our uh student population and changing the financial dynamics. So, you then start to make alternative plans. Um we're going

046to be doing that with the athletic director position. We anticipate coming back to you to approve somebody either next month or in May. Uh but this is the other component that I think has worked out well. The reason I think it works out well is because we're not hiring an assisted AD, >> right? >> Spend a little bit more money than we would on the assisted AD, but we're giving enough help. Um, times are different now than they were 20 years ago. And these jobs tend to burn people out. So, I think these are effective because it gives help to people. >> Yeah. >> And and then it allows some of our other people to make a little extra dollars for extra duties. So yeah, I think it's been pretty helpful >> and I think

047it's creative um on on the on LER's part. >> Yeah. Well, thank you for that. I mean, we we we've been I think these are generous amounts. I've compared them to what other schools do and you know, we we uh we definitely enjoy the support of people that take on these responsibilities. >> Yeah, I think with like you say the new process looking stuff, it's you know, we we burned out people before and other schools are doing the same and I think they're running the same. used to be one person can do it all. They they just can't do it anymore. Workload is just too much. The new regulations and everything they have to do. So this seems to be working and people seem to be liking it. Every ones who take their positions. So

048it's helping. >> Yeah. And it's a lot of out when you look at especially at some of these events like you know the boys and girls basketball there was a time I think in December where it might have been uh six out of eight days. Yeah. you're in the bed till 9:30. So, that that requires a little bit of support and help and and if you don't burn people out and hopefully they're able to serve them longer, right? And who knows, LeBrain might be a trend setter. >> We'll see. We'll see. Who knows? >> Treasurer, please call. >> Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Camelin, >> yes. >> Mr. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion carries 5. Next item on the agenda is a recommendation that the board

049approve the renaming of the Franks Hillman scholarship fund to the Franks Hillman Frederick Memorial Scholarship Fund. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Motion by Mr. Gibson, second by myself. Any discussion? >> Uh Mr. Bailey, who is a staff member, has been instrumental in spearheading the fundraising and and uh integral to to building that back up, used to work very closely with Denny and some other community members. Uh he just felt it would be the right thing to do to change that and add Mr. Frederick's name to it. So, I told him that was no big deal um for us to do that. No, no controversy there. We'll just put it before the board and and do the right thing at his request. So, we're honored to be able to add Mr. Frederick's unfortunately

050having to add Mr. Frederick's name to it. Obviously rather have him here supporting it through fundraising. But um you know he was definitely had a legacy at le deserves to be honored and kids loved him and I know he would he would be proud of the fact that uh money his name tied to it would help kids further their education. >> Treasurer please call the role. >> May Gibson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gamblin. >> I'll do him last cuz he's still a president. >> Oh, okay. Yes. >> Okay. Yes. >> Uh, Mr. Shut. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Anel. Yes. Mr. Soul. >> Yes. >> Motion carries. 5-0. Uh, next item on the agenda is a recommendation for the board to acknowledge and accept the following donations. You can see those listed there. Again, we appreciate

051all the uh support and the generosity for our programs. Um, I would just make mention that Youngsttown Shield and Aluminum. you know, they stopped in and dropped off a check because they saw one of our Facebook posts that we had shared with Mr. uh Swift's roboikes thing and they were like felt compelled to come in and support it. So, it was it was awesome. They came in, dropped off a check for $200 for the Roboikes. So, again, we need you to acknowledge and accept those donations. >> So, moved. >> Second motion by Mr. Gamlin, second step by Mrs. Shut. Any discussion here, please call the RO. May Gamlin, >> yes. Mrs. Shut. >> Yes. >> Mr. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Soul, >> yes. >> Motion carries by zero. >>

052Okay. Next item on the agenda is a recommendation. The board approved the following use of facility request and this will be a no charge basketball boosters are going to hold their postseason banquet at uh at the cafeteria. >> So second question by Mrs. Anel, second by Mr. Gibson. Any discussion? Treasurer, please call a RO. Mrs. Anel, >> yes. >> Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Jut, >> yes. >> Mr. S? >> Yes. Motion carries. 5 Z. >> Say that again. >> Anything under miscellaneous? >> No. >> All right. Uh, we'll go to concerns of board. I'll start with Mrs. Anel. You have anything? >> Nothing at this time. Thank you, >> Mrs. Shut. >> Uh, yes. Um, I've got a suggestion tonight and that is to create an agenda format

053that allows our public attendees to glean a better connection and understanding to to what the board is all about, what they're thinking. Um, my question is, does this board have the power to set the order of the format of the meeting's agenda? >> Not sure what you're asking for. >> So, we have an agenda and agenda sets the agenda. >> Uh, but the formatation Yeah. Well, how are you going to format? >> So, so the format has been the same since I've been here. It's like, you know, there there's an order to things. That's what I'm thinking about right now. >> Do we have the uh ability to to uh construct that any way we want with the board? >> It's our meeting, right? >> Yeah. >> So, we do. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All

054right. So, I've got some suggestions after we call the meeting to order. That's one. that we would have concerns of the board as the second uh order of business and then public participation third and then student recognition fourth financial reports right after that and then dismiss the po you know tell the public they're free to go. What that would do is that would allow the public to know what's on our mind, the board. And usually the concerns of the board are either um they're they're typically things that have that have that are in the past, issues that we've gone over uh that we want to to you know, we have ideas or thoughts about resolving those things, things that we've already experienced. And I think that would be uh that's, you know, a way to

055be transparent. And this audience that we have sitting here mostly because they're they want to see their kids get awards. Well, those those are parents that, you know, these could be helpful things to help them understand who we are. Um, and then right after that having the public participation, who knows, somebody that's sitting there might have a thought on what we've what our concern is or they might be more um they might be more apt to make a comment. Uh, and that would create a little bit more involvement. Um, and I think, you know, they're already here. They're here for their, you know, the student recognition, but this would give an opportunity to have a little more interplay and understanding of how what we're thinking before we get into all the dry stuff that, you

056know, as you say, Mr. Soul, nobody wants we think nobody wants to sit through. Um, and uh I I think that would be I think that would be um great and that's what you know I'm thinking. So to know what everybody else thinks about that. >> I'm having a problem here Randy except still not too sure about changing the the student awards parents because most of them they want to come get their work and get out. I don't think they're really here in the meeting. >> But we're making an assumption there. >> Yeah, I know. They can say if they'd like and sometimes they do. >> And the thing is is that these students are exemplary. They're exhibiting things that every teacher wants to see and every parent is proud of. And that tells me

057that these parents are involved with their kids and they're involved with wanting them to succeed in school. And if anybody is interested in what the board is thinking and doing, it's those parents sitting there because their students are the evidence of that is what I believe. >> Yeah. So, um, >> so for curiosity purposes, when you mentioned financial reports, what are you referring to there? Well, anything that Brad would, you know, be bringing up just, you know, just because it's uh I mean, yeah, it's that's just a thought. I mean, as a as a parent, um I'd probably like to know that, you know, it's it's a >> and you you're very brief and concise. >> I mean, to me, it sounds like you just want to put the concern of the board at the

058beginning, then the publicization, and then proceed as usual. >> Right. Right. I Yeah. I'd just like call the meeting to order. Concerns of the board, public participation, student recognition, and then let them go. You know, um, a lot of times when you say something, it's so complimentary to teachers and school activities and you have a lot of enthusiasm for how great the school, you know, the wonderful things that are happening within inside the school, the sports, the bu the building. I think that that's a form of affirmation for these students and parents and I think it it'd be a wonderful thing for them to hear. Okay. So, you said Julia the concerns the order that you're recommending is the concerns of the board public participation awards presentation. Did I get that right? >> Mhm. Yeah.

059>> Okay. >> The superintendence report. >> We can eliminate that. >> Well, like like what I'm saying is >> I hear you. Here's my one question. When you talk about interplay and the community with public participation, how do you envision that happening? What what do you think happens there? >> Well, I mean, typically someone who's going to participate, they already they they don't care what we're doing or saying. They're going to say their part. They're going to ask their questions or make their statements. However, um if there's a more um if there's other opinions of the board happening, I the more we open up with some opinion and thought, I mean, it's just human nature that someone might have an exchange that they'd like to say, you know what, um you know, Miss Sh, thank

060you so much for bringing that up because I think I think that would be awesome. Okay, just an affirmation. Um, you know, we hear from Miss Anel that the band boosters did a fantastic job. Well, I think they did, too. You know, that's what I'm looking at. Um, and then we're looking eye to eye with these people that clearly are working hard to make sure their kids are great students. And we're I just think it's a win-win. It's it's you know it's creating more of a persona that we're approachable that we do have some you know we do something we don't just yes second you know whatever we're we're we're >> well we are recording it now >> that's what I was saying it's open to the public for them to see and this is

061a business meeting so that part of that is boring But the things that I say positive about the school is just my engagement with the teachers and the students and my community action. These folks are that are not here today that went to do their family because they needed to spend family time. I think they already know that and and our social media and the update. >> The things that you see on Instagram with the school and Facebook, it's all there. And most of my stuff that I have that I know, I see some of it from there, but it's just people here in the community that I already know. And as we discussed at our special meeting, my patients tell me as well from what my job during the day. Um, I I encourage,

062not that this is wrong, but as a mom of five that were in school, it would be difficult to extend that front-end meeting. And you may see some that won't come for student because they may be locked here for 3540 minutes. And that matters to them which is why we now videotape it because we're going to pick up with softball. We're going to pick up with volleyball and track. We're going to get super busy here within the next three weeks and you're going to see even less because of the commitment. And as Miss Naggalis will tell you, we're getting to the senior senior rush and those events and things that are going. I I don't know at this point, maybe frontload in the fall if this is something that's to be considered, but at the

063end of the year, I think it's going to be too busy right now for everything. Um, the school really does pick up here probably by mid-March with events and track and everything else that's going on. >> Would the board consider a consent agenda? >> What's that? >> What did you say? >> I said, would the board consider doing a consent agenda? That's where you lump all those items on number four. You vote one time. Done. >> So there's our like I mean that's just more food for thought. >> Wait, >> a consent agenda is far different than what we do, >> right? >> So consent agenda has >> the a through whatever. >> Yeah. And you only pull certain things out. Consent agendas, too. >> So more food for thought. >> Yeah. So Matthews does.

064uh you know some things like you you saying you can't approve in a consent agenda like I'm pretty sure like a levy. >> Yeah. You got to pull them out. >> Yeah. But like so like instead of what we had here 20 uh board motion there's really maybe like seven or so like your your minutes are voted separately. Your your monthly financials are reported separately and then you have a section for financials. So like the approval of the regular solution would be separate and then you have contracts together. >> Yeah. >> And the biggest one being personnel, you know, you'll have you'll vote on 10 or 12 right there today personnel and then donations. >> Yeah. >> At the TCTC, we do it like that. Yeah. like with all the all the personnel uh the

065superintendent reads it off as a suggestion that he's making all the personnel you know and there's say 10 of them but rather than >> but he still >> we do it individually >> but the superintendent still reads each motion correct or no >> yes >> yeah that's yeah >> yes because it's yeah >> but but we they do clump some things together makes the meeting go a little faster but it's a >> not that >> well this a little bit off the subject of what I was talking about but you know I mean >> well it's not the subject we're talking about >> well I mean >> reforming the agenda >> right so so >> yeah I mean yeah sure part of conversation >> yeah discuss it all so >> my >> how do you

066how do you like doing that over at TCTC >> well lumping some of the hiring together makes things go faster Uh they generally have a few more things on the agenda than we do here. >> I see. >> School. >> But you like that. >> Yeah. For for the few things that we do, does it make the meeting really any shorter? Uh not noticeably because it always varies by how much people discuss and stuff. But uh >> so how many how many board members and school districts? >> 22 I think. >> Yeah. >> And school districts. So >> because each one brings the personality for each school, >> correct >> to TCTC. >> What do you think, Brad, >> about the consent thing or about what you're recommending? >> Well, well, what I'm recommending number

067one, I mean, the other the consent thing would be, you know, >> the part that sticks out to me with what Mrs. shut is recommending is the public participation being later in the meeting. Um I've just always wondered but never, you know, never asked why that was later in the meeting. Um yeah. >> Well, I'm uh I'm good with the way we have it here. I think we get to we get to do the superintendence report and all the people get to hear that which is very informative to the board members but the community also that are here for their children getting honored. But uh I think that the uh format we use now is still workable and still informative being that we have things recorded and people can go watch it if they if

068they so desire and uh or read about it in the few days after the meeting. But that's just me. That's all I've got. >> Yeah, for me, uh, changing putting our concerns up there. I don't have any problem with that really. Um, the only thing I'm I'm still not too sure about, you know, having that people stay that have other things going on. You know, they came here to get a certificate for their kid. Really? Some of them. Well, if we >> and and I know that's why we're recording these so they can look at it later because they do want their family time. They want recognize their child and then, you know, go do other things, spend time with their family. Maybe they don't want out to celebrate in those. But, uh, putting our

069concerns up there is I don't see that as a bad thing because maybe it will stir public participation. Um, not too sure about the consensual consensual agenda. That would be something I have to think about. I wasn't aware how that actually worked. So, I mean, it's it's worth a thought, but I um I misspoke when I was talking. I was wonder I what I meant to say was I was wondering why the particip public participation was early on in the meeting and not later in the meeting. Um, like after how late how much later? What are you thinking? >> Well, like after the meeting, like after we >> like after all the items. >> Yeah. >> After we do all agenda items >> actually state. >> No, I just that was the thought that went

070through my head. I misspoke earlier >> because like you know like Brad said, some of these reading through these are boiler plate. We have to do this, we have to do that. There's certain things we have to go through. >> Yes. is a process we have to do it because it's required by the state. >> Well, we could really streamline things if we um had >> the prayer or the pledge. Uh >> prayer is not part of the meeting. >> Just that be clear. >> That's before the meeting. >> Okay. >> That is not part of our agenda. >> Okay. But but but >> not allowed to do that. >> We're not allowed to pray. No, >> not not during the meeting. >> Um well, I mean it's part of the evening, right? idea. So,

071>> it's not part of our agenda. >> Okay. >> Want to make that clear everybody? >> It's not on I don't see it on that. >> I don't see it on the agenda. I'm just like thinking that like here's what we do. We walk in. Okay. Right. >> I got it. >> Yeah. We're >> Yeah. >> Unfortunately, we It's not part of our agenda. Um so, we have the roll call, we have the pledge. Why couldn't we then have the awards of public participation and uh concerns of the board have everybody Thank you very much. You can go and then have the superintendent report which you know >> I thought you wanted us to have concerns before public so they could hear our thoughts >> or you Yeah. >> That's what you I thought that's

072correct. public participation. >> I'm just I guess what I'm saying is the things I suggested >> and have the awards in there, let the folks, you know, exit if they prefer before we get into all the meat and potatoes, superintendent report, all the >> I don't know. I think you >> hear. >> Yeah. Yeah. Like you say, you can tell them stuff that they don't know. I mean, I'm just making what I think are creative suggestions to kind of mix it up a little bit, >> right? >> To give >> this captive audience we have a chance to hear our voices, which I think is important. I was elected by these people as were all of us. And it, you know, it's I I don't I don't think there's anything wrong with mixing it up

073a little bit. See how see how it goes. >> So, I guess you can make a motion. No. >> I don't think we need to pardon me. Are we allowed to say anything? >> No. Technically, public participation's over with. But let me let me just >> That's another problem. >> No, no, it's not because that's one of the concerns that I do have. Right. Right. Right. >> Is that when >> we have had a lot of situations in my 15 years where people come into the board meeting and during public participation and you get back and forth and that's not what public participation is about. A lot of boards of education when the public speaks, thank you for your your feedback. That's it. It is not a public meeting because what happens there there's a

074reason board policy allows districts to control the public participation. I think ours is three minutes. >> Yes. >> Because >> it can't be extended by five. >> Yeah, you can extend it but the goal is that it's not a public forum. >> So that's the only cost. >> It's not question and answer. >> I got it. >> We don't have to give an answer. So you just have to guard against that. You can be informal. We've always told our community that when we had those situations is understand the board is not obligated to do this. Our board chooses to do it to be more informal, but it's but you have to guard against it going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth because that's not really the intent of the meeting,

075>> right? And so I think there's some things you could do. I would not cut out the superintendent's report. Most of what I say you guys have already seen before. I don't do that for you so much as I do it for the people that are in attendance because there's some important stuff that most of our attendees have never heard before. When I talk about property tax tonight, that was not necessarily for you. >> That was for them. >> What if we did this? What if we take out the part where we ask tell people they can go and then see what happens? >> Wow. >> I mean, >> I didn't recommend that. >> You don't recommend that kids? Well, I'm just saying, you know, >> yeah, >> it is they know they can go

076whenever they want where they're not being held captive. >> Some of them some feel guilty to if you got a bunch of them, >> they would follow properly, but someone can see they don't want to disrupt the meeting. >> So that's why we kind of give them a pause and give them an opportunity just like to take the pictures >> so they can >> Here's my courtesy. >> Yeah. The brass tax is how long does concerns of the board typically take >> on a typical night? >> Not only 10 15 minutes. >> Yes. >> What's the harm in trying to move to the front? >> Yeah, that's what I mean. I don't have any problem that up and just keeping everything >> superintendent report. You do public participation and then you tell people now we're

077going to go into our agenda items. If you feel like you have to go, you're more than welcome to stay, but we respect the fact that if you need to leave, have a great night. Yeah. >> Period. >> Because concerns of the board, they don't ever take this long. >> No, >> they take, hey, congrats. Oh, hey, I got a question. Congrats here. Hey, don't I don't have anything. So, we might be talking 10 to 15 minutes. And I I don't necessarily know that that extends the meeting, per se. >> That's why I wouldn't mind moving the concerns up in place. You know, number two, put them there and then just go down. the windows >> concerns >> and after public participation they can leave >> concerns of the board number two. >> Yeah. >>

078Public part then superintendent report three. >> Yeah. >> And then >> public partition public participation four and then agenda items five >> and then they would be they can be they can let be let know that they can leave as we start agenda items. >> Uh >> okay. Yeah. That's fair. Um, >> we need a motion. We make it. We'll just redo it for the next meeting. >> See how it goes. >> The superintendent does. >> So, we can just try it next meeting. See how it goes. >> Yeah. I mean, what's the harm, right? See how it goes. >> Okay. Anything else to >> No, that's it. That's >> to say something. >> Well, I think >> about this. >> No, you you mentioned about publicization being put last. I think the idea for

079public participation is for someone to see the agenda, maybe comment on it before the board takes action. So I think >> Oh, okay. That makes sense. Yeah. >> Yeah. They may want to stay up. >> Yeah. >> Sure. Thank you for that. When it's >> when we had some hot coaching items that actually stayed there see what gonna be. >> Tim, do you have anything? >> No. >> Bradley? Uh, yeah. Just a couple things. Congratulations to our sports teams, the conference champions, girls, uh, basketball, boys, basketball, boys bowling. Um, I wanted to haven't been here very long on the board, but I've noticed in my short time that we sure lose a lot of new hires. So would there be any possibility of some type of incentive to keep to keep people I know we

080did like the substitutes if they come and they do so many days they'll you know they get that little bump um there's just a lot of turnover in in in a lot of those positions and then it's hard to find people. >> What what are your ideas for incentive? >> I don't know. That's when I was trying to brainstorm. >> Well, most part of it, our weight structure is governed by our contract. So, we have to go, but what our legal contract is. And you know, some people they come in like bus drivers and we're not the only district everybody comes in. It's not what they thought. Same with custodian. They may handle this one and then they want to move to a different building. Want to go from complex to bask to the complex.

081They find out this really wasn't fit for me. So that's why we have you get a recent kind of period to see before you accept them into the full-time. And you know I run it into our business. I bring people in. Some of them work, some of them don't. They need to try it to see if they really want it. We've had a couple of them, you know, they wanted to try being in custody. They didn't like that. Maybe they want to do something else. Maybe they want to be a bus driver, vice versa. So we try to give them opportunity. The wage thing is set and we probably It's pretty close to almost all of them except some of the big schools like or Harding as far as our wage scale that we're paying

082and our benefits. Most of those are all the same. So, it's a matter of finding the right person that fits and it used to be a lot easier for bus drivers. We get a lot of retired people in the community that they they like doing that. They want to stay involved. That those parameters have changed now. It's just the the labor market itself is not what it used to be. and you find out just not for schools, it's that for industry, manufacturing industry. Everybody's looking for people to come to work. >> I I would respond to that by echoing what Mr. Soul said. We're confined by a collective bargain agreement that if you start opening it up for one, you're going to be opening it up for what about us? What about this classification of

083employee versus that classification? So, so you got some issues there that probably can't be addressed until the contract gets renegotiated in two years. Um, the the other side of the equation is uh we also are experiencing sometimes not necessarily something of our own fault, but maybe something where people just aren't satisfied here. They're always on the look for something bigger and better. um some some change has been because we've applied some pressure to people based on performance and they recognize that and so human nature generally tends to be let me look elsewhere and sometimes that becomes someone transferring within a position realizing oh I don't necessarily like this building more than that building but I can't go back and I can tell you for someone who just left recently I know that that individual school.

084They don't know that I know this. I got a call. They had applied at another school district weeks ago. I don't know if they got interviewed. I obviously didn't get the job. And then they left for a non-school employment just recently. And I just found out that they just applied for another position in another school district. And so then so when you look when you're trying to find good people and you see that these people have number of jobs in a relatively short period of time, >> Yeah. >> you recognize it's like, okay, well, we need people, right? They seem very capable and they were very capable. But it's not a surprise when they move around a lot and not even gone very long and are already looking at other positions because people do their

085homework. And you might not be down as a reference on an application, but people know they work there and they call you and and so we do have some constraints when you're uh you know public employer with the contract and but and what wages you can offer. And the biggest the hardest thing for us is we are not always able to compete with the private sector. Postcoid, it is extremely competitive for public employees. And not everybody appreciates the stability that comes with working for a school district because if you're making 16 bucks an hour and you've got the Cadillac health care plan and a really strong pension, that doesn't always resonate with everybody. When they can say, "Hey, I can go out there and make, you know, $23 an hour." That's hard to compete with

086because money in people's pockets is sometimes what it speaks more. So there there are some reasons and constraints where where we are, but we're you know constantly trying to when we have those opportunities like right now we never closed our custodial posting. I've interviewed a number of custodians even though we hired at recently because I just anticipated we're going to have this movement. I've got three people right now that I could go and offer a job to tomorrow and and they're aware that hey the position you applied for is no longer available but I anticipate other ones coming as >> is it called custodian >> that's for position >> in this particular case yes >> maybe we need to come up with a fancier term >> well you know the thing >> sanitation engineer really

087you know like like um cleanlin cleanliness influencer >> you know forward influencers um but the thing I think about just as you know having employees and you know Mr. school. I know what that's like. Uh to the turnover, is there something we could do better in our job interview process to decipher and maybe we allow the people that tend to flip jobs real quicky time and you could see that through their you know >> I don't be you can see it. I'm telling you can see it sometimes. You can tell right now get a feeling when you've got 12 elementary classrooms that need cleaned and >> you need to fill that suit. >> We have a bus driver. Put a bus driver walking out the door Friday. >> What do you do? >> Yeah. >>

088How much time do you take to fill them? >> Right. >> You you've got to work to fill that >> somebody who's qualified to do that. >> And that's what we're going to do. >> It's hard to take your time, >> you know, that we can plan ahead for retirement. But when they do it like you know you you ask for two weeks but they don't get one person didn't even get get a week >> travel call a a travel agent. >> Yeah. No matter what we did, they were they were already gone. And that's why you try to bet them before. And I know AJ, like he said, he'll call. He knows even though they didn't put it on the resume, he knows they worked at this place. He's going to call and say,

089"Who do you think? This guy, >> this person, you know, we do that." >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. We can do that. Yeah, we've done that. Seen what happens to people. >> Yeah. >> So, it's an ongoing process. >> I know. It it's just when you think everything's full and you're oh everything's running and well the machine then you've got boom >> poor people that are like I quit. It's just >> do those you can't stop. They're just going to it's going to happen. >> Yes. >> Do we still have students that are like interested in in becoming or working in those positions? >> We we hire students for summer help. Sometimes we'll use students in lower elementary grade levels. not upper grade levels because our staff naturally would be uncomfortable with students who they

090teach being having that level of access and and we've had mixed results with that. You know, we we recruited some of those students uh you know to to to work for us more permanently and they get alternative plans. I mean, we had one this fall that was you know, really intent. We hired him as a sub. He was going to we get a custodial opening. The the idea was to transition him in. He signed up for military. bring it up. >> Yeah. >> You know, took a job and then he didn't stay in that job very long and I think now he's in boot camp. So, >> it's just a process you have to hope you get right >> you follow the checklist. I know AJ does try to vet them to make sure you

091get feeling. Sometimes you can tell right away they're they're just looking, but other times you that's a good fit and then all a sudden they don't like it. >> There's nothing we can do. That's that the job duty encompasses what you have to do. You got to clean the room. Well, I don't like clean walks. Well, you're in the wrong position then. Okay. I don't really have anything. We do need a motion to go to executive session to discuss employee discipline. >> So moved. Second. >> Motion by Mrs. Densel. Second by Mrs. Chef. All in favor? >> I opposed. Okay, take five minute break. We'll go into second session. We will not be taking any votes. We will be coming out and adjourning after the discussion. Motion to go back into No, just just don't

092need a motion. Just reconvene at Okay. Reconvene at 7:45. We're back in open session. I need a motion to adjourn. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Motion by Mr. Gamlin. Second by Mrs. Shut. Any discussion? >> Treasurer, please call the role. Mr. Gamlin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Shut, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Gibson, >> yes. >> Minister, >> yes. Motion carries 5 Z. We are adjourned.
