moved second we've been moved in second anybody opposed or any comments hearing none um Mr resum can you call the role uh Mr katsen Berger hi Miss shaunessy hi M Clark Sutton hi Mr Callahan hi Miss do hi thank you thank you um we're going to move on to um board comments and public comments um uh before we do that I just wanted sorry I just wanted to mention that because we have the sort of unusual structure tonight we have we're going to clean up the business from the February uh January 21st meeting and then move on to our regularly scheduled meeting for tonight so any um public comments should be kind of limited to anything from the January 21st agenda and we're just going to try and get through that pretty quickly and then

we'll move on to tonight's meeting and the public comments either for tonight's agenda or for any other matters can be handled during that time just for everybody's edification um does do anybody does anybody have any public comments they'd like to bring no okay um I just wanted to uh we've had a lot of uh questions and and I'm sure we're all aware of a lot of uh items in the news regarding legislation and some itive orders and I know that with our community being as um close-knit and uh that we look out for each other and um respect each other and that kindness and respect are very important to us that we wanted to make sure we address that uh verbally tonight um so as you may be aware the Ohio State Legislature has passed

and the governor dwine has signed a number of bills that have the the potential to affect our students well-being as well as the way we oper operate our schools these bills seek to affect our transgender students possibly remove some students from school for religious instruction and More in addition the incoming administration at the federal level has issued a number of executive orders that seek to use the threat of removal of federal Educational Funding to influence educational programs and policies that protect and support transgender students affect the way we teach us history eliminate programs that diversity equity and inclusion and even allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement to enter schools local control has been a Bedrock principle of public education in Ohio for many years and these actions are designed to undermine this principle local control of

our policies and programs has ensured that Lakewood city schools have been a place of acceptance for everyone we are a community that Prides itself on being a place where all students belong and feel welcome in Lakewood our main purpose as Educators and as a community is to protect our safety protect the safety and well-being of our students so they can focus on achieving their goals both as students and as human beings please know that as a board and administration we are working together with advice of councel to interpret these state and federal measures as they are issued and to determine what actions they actually require schools to take how actions are monitored and what consequences are involved in some cases legal measures preventing the implementation of these bills might prevent the need for immediate action

from schools in the coming weeks as we learn more we will continue to update you in addition we will issue a board resolution regarding some or all of these bills and orders if necessary and applicable until then and going forward Ward we will continue to work with our students families Educators and Community to ensure that we are doing and will continue to do everything in our power to protect the rights dignity and well-being of our students and staff kindness and respect have always been a part of our values and our vision of a Lakewood Ranger and that's not going to stop now thank you does anybody else have any comments yes just to piggy back um the federal government when it provides from the Department of Education is a lot of title funding so it

would affect our special education it would expect our school lunch Pro I'm sorry impact our school lunch programs um there are a lot of things that if that were dissolved would be an issue so please make sure that just you are staying a breast of those issues and certainly like talk to Senators our state legislature has not necessarily been a huge proponent of public education as we've seen with school choice vouchers expanding and things like that so definitely make sure that you are just staying informed form Med and doing um anything you can and we will continue to do it we can I would just say I'm I'm just constantly struck by the fact that in a um a state where parental rights has become the reason for restricting more and more that the parental

rights of parents who want their children to be in a school system where rights dig dignity well-being and individuality are protected esteemed rewarded that that parental those parental rights don't seem to have nearly the impact that the parental rights of restrictive uh and control have so um I I know that we have we talk individually and talk with our friends and families about this and to me this is a major concern on what it could do to our uh lakid community and lakid schools I'll just say um echoing we are all listening we are all watching um we are committed to our students your students um and our community um our country is operated on a federalist system using representative democracy so I'm being a government teacher for a minute um that means that it

can be complicated for us to know when and how to um participate but it also means that there are multiple avenues for our involvement and so there are some national things um that we're looking at there's some state things that are looking at and then at we also are protecting our local control um which is protected in the Ohio Constitution so I appreciate uh president cenb Berger's comments and and those of the rest of the the board here this evening um and support them and and look forward to um potential resolution that you know that we may may come to here as we continue to to be vigilant so thank thank you thank you did we have I don't think we have any specific public okay um we will move on to the consent agenda

um I believe uh do we have any uh discussion items regarding the consent agenda move adoption with the consent consent agenda is presented second okay uh Mr Zan um can you please call the rooll Mr SE or Mr catburger hi Miss shy hi Miss Clark Sutton hi Mr Khan hi Miss dotman hi thank you thank you we'll move on to human resources and Community Services report Miss Shan is okay sorry I don't know if I'm in the right I got so entranced in my own comments that I lost track of them I can I can relate make sure that don't even have my binder that's 13 yeah okay thank you or is this or do we have to vote on the other um we vote on the total right first and then the additional okay
