the state level competitions and their success is uh in large part to their dedication their hard work and and their effort they put into becoming better athletes however the success also lies in their coaches and their coaching staff many of who are here this with us this evening specifically our indoor track team and of course our outdoor track team which always has really large participation numbers and that is in no small part due to head coach steph toole and the other track coaches we also have one of our newest sports which is girls wrestling and they had some great success this year and uh the program is growing and that is no small part due to head coach doug thomas so at this point i'm not going to talk about the student athletes that they

are so i'd like to invoke invite coach thomas and coach tool please come to the podium good evening um and i just honor i mean acknowledge superintendent good president vice president mr callahan um thank you for having us tonight so i'm super loud but i don't usually use the microphone so let me know if i'm blowing your ears out um thanks for having us tonight we had a great uh indoor season we used it as a big springboard to train for outdoors so um we're well into outdoor so if you want to come to a snowy meet we'll be at a home dual meet on wednesday so anyway i want to say congratulations to doug and the wrestlers we saw them every practice doing their thing in the wrestling room so we're super excited to

see how successful the female wrestlers did and we have a number of them doing track this spring so we're excited they came out to do track too um i also wanted one little tidbit mike callahan was on one of the very first track teams i ever coached as a middle schooler ourselves coach goes way back when um anyway so we um celebrated 10 athletes we took to the indoor state meet for division one we had two long jumpers sharian doxley who finished 22nd and then i assignments who finished 12th those two went back and forth with the uh new indoor record and charion got it in the end at 16 feet 1 inch um our four eight hundred qualified they finished 27th overall was freshman anna daiso freshman mate mohar freshman josie kavik and senior

julia kavic so they finished um tremendous and we are excited about that to have such a young team with um one senior who's dropped tremendous amount of time and uh we're just so excited for what she's already doing this spring our 4x200 finished 17th overall they also qualified for the new balance national meet um so we're hoping to go to that late middle june um it's kaden stoxley ellie schneider mckenna han tegan mccann and they set the school record of 148.81 on february 18th our 4 by 400 finished 16th overall was anaya simons elliot schneider mckenna hunt and teague mcgahn and um yeah that's that's we took them we had a great day at the state meet and we not only had a successful competitive day but we just had a lot of fun that

day because it was a long day and so we brought cards and to break up you know the long day so is that about it i think that's it i think i'm not you know anything else i forgot coaches oh jeez louise this isn't even one more part me you two stand up oh my goodness these guys come on up for a sec or over here um [Music] goodness none of this is possible without them we each bring a little bit to this whole picture and just round each other out in the greatest way so um austin sparks and um adam swyatt two amazing i don't even call him assistant coaches we're just a team and we just do it all together so rachel's not here rachel um well she goes by kearney or georges

she got married has a new mate uh married name she's our throws coach and she's so amazing we have 23 throwers on the team this year which is amazing so she's super dynamic she teaches at fso half day and at the high school half day so you know we're all four at the high school so it's a lot of fun so we get to see the athletes in the hallway and do our thing so anything else we bringing the girls up now are you doing that after all right ladies come on up [Laughter] [Applause] sure we'll come up in this order they have your certificates sharian doxley next is cadence taxley [Applause] now we have sophomore mckenna hunt [Applause] josie kavik [Applause] julia kavic [Applause] tegan mccann [Applause] and last but not least tonight is

ellie schneider snyder as in pretzels [Applause] and the other girls are out of town we'll take oh we're going to bring up well we got to bring up um do you want him to talk yeah because he did that okay good and anaya couldn't make it and the other two are out of town do you want papers sure sure okay um one thing i forgot we had two other school records mae mohar who's out of town right now she broke the 3200 meter record in 1312.37 and josie set the indoor 1600 meter record 551.15 i think we're going to bring up coach moore so he can talk about ethan did you know you're gonna have to speak he is never at a loss for words um coach moore handled like this that was two what

two three years now of the winter running club and this year the theme was tko i'll let him tell it you know what that means he's always comes up with amazing euphemisms but this was the first year for the indoor state meet for junior high and um no you come talk first of all this is very nice thanks for having the athletes here we really appreciate it absolutely absolutely lakewood as i like to say it's really uh this is my fifth year getting the opportunity to coach in lakewood and we love it and my son loves participating in the programs and we're so lucky to have these amazing coaches and these amazing programs and congratulations to the girls team i know most of them pretty well and got to watch them run since they were

little and they just keep getting bigger and faster and it's a lot of fun to watch but as coach toole mentioned this was the first year that they had the ohio middle school indoor state championship so um we the last couple years we've been running this tko tough kids only winter running program where we get kids from middle school to come out and show up at lakewood park or at edgewater and we do donut runs and all kinds of stuff just to kind of get them off the couch and keep them running throughout the winter and my son ethan has been a big part of that and then we had the opportunity to run at spider many times because the high schoolers were there and he had he got the opportunity to run a couple

high school races and ran well enough as a middle schooler to qualify for the indoor state championship meet and went down there and placed 11th this year and the very first time that they've ever had it so um he's a really hard working kid he's very consistent and he's a great teammate and he loves his friends and he loves being a member he loves being a lakewood ranger so um ethan moore come on up [Applause] you practice a half hour speech if you guys have a lot of time come on thanks so much everybody thank you [Applause] parents if you want to get a picture you can we're the welcome to come up to bet it's fun and they look like it's really cute i did wonder who was driving the bus out to spire

especially when some of those meets started at five and that's quite a hike out there i was curious about that at times to drive an hour on a friday good dedication girls thank you thank you [Applause] thank you it's a hard act to follow my name is doug thomas coach the wrestling team i've been doing it for a long i forget how many years i think it's my seventh year generally i tell the the girls that your your biggest honor coaching for me or me coaching you is paying taxes so this is new for us all right um we don't get invited to to come see you guys that often um but thanks for having us um as a coach who i've coached six national champions four state champions and roughly 32 state qualifiers i've

never been more excited than to start this program women's wrestling is on the rise it's the fastest growing sport in the country by far i mean ohio state is going to announce here from breaking news ohio state's going to announce here soon that they're starting a new wrestling program women's so there's a lot of opportunity for uh women's wrestling here in the future i'm gonna urge the board to uh to support women's wrestling as we we come through here please um a little bit about our girls our girls um just a quick question how many people have sacrificed something to do something fun right so you you've had two choices there's something fun there's something hard you went with something fun just raise your hand right during the winter time these guys always go with

the hard thing all right wrestling is not an easy sport what happens is they come in we make them sweat a lot we get them nice and tired and we're literally teaching them a new language both these guys these ladies are brand new to the sport so it's like learning chinese right and they're able to pick up on it really quickly and they were able to have a tremendous amount of success right so um we'll bring up jillian first jillian interesting fact about jillian uh she never missed a practice i had one person i've ever coached who never missed a practice he went on to be a national champion right and he's a two-time jiu-jitsu world champion he's going to be in the ufc in a few months breaking news again i'm sorry and jillian's

on that course right she's she's extremely dedicated to the sport and has put a lot of time and sweat into this she's only a sophomore there's no doubt in my mind you guys gonna have him back next year next to next year when we come back we we win the state title yeah all right she's come back she's coming back i'm gonna take we want cake in a band jillian she's gonna be back she's gonna be back all right so you guys gonna get tired of seeing her each year but she's gonna be back right and we're real excited to to see what she's gonna do here in the next few years all right and then we got zayna montaser come on zana zayna some kind of upset with zayn i'm gonna tell everybody why

so she's she's wrestling the first round and um show everybody your your wrists dana you got it so she's first she's wrestling her first match uh girl who goes on to eventually take second in the state and she clubbed her so hard she broke her her wrist on her on her head and so she she still continued after right she's one of the toughest athletes i've ever coached i mean that girl took second in the state that girl does not want to wrestle zayna ever again i'm telling that all right so she's gonna win the state title she's coming back and too make sure make sure you guys are aware yep two cakes and so that's our women's wrestling team this team is going to grow right um we're we're going to add numbers these

guys are out here recruiting at a high level we're going to grow and we're going to look to win a state title we're going after it all so it's a women's wrestling program if anyone else wants to get a picture please feel free years after title one [Applause] well we know we'll just bring you two back anyways for presentations because they're so fun to listen to [Laughter] and to see all these kids excelling it's very exciting very proud next up i would like to invite mrs bornino elwell to the podium to present uh fso building report and to speak about her star student [Applause] good evening president shaughnessy vice president callahan members of the board superintendent it's wiki treasurer zeman thank you for the opportunity for us to be here this evening we will begin

by introducing franklin school of opportunity star student at this time i would ask that dylan watson please come forward before i turn this over to mr maruk to give you the highlights of why the staff and i have chosen dylan to be our star student i would like to take this opportunity to thank heather coates heather coates is dylan's mother with a star student comes a star parent having dylan with us in seventh grade we have had the opportunity to form an incredible partnership with miss together we have worked side by side in a joint effort to watch dylan succeed from becoming a 7th grader to a 12th grader so thank you miss coates for all of your help for more of this success story i introduce to you mr marouk our fso guidance counselor

to speak on dylan's behalf [Applause] good evening tonight i have the privilege of presenting our fso star student dylan yachtson dylan is currently a 12th grade student at fso he attends the west shore auto tech program and is a multi-sport athlete as a member of the lakewood rangers hockey and football programs dylan first came to fso in 2018 as a middle school student over the last four years he has grown and matured in our program and here's what his teachers and staff had to say about him dylan has a competitive spirit he is a leader in the classroom on the field and on the ice he is a good teammate and a strong advocate for others dylan brings an energy to the classroom and is always willing to contribute and participate in class he asks

questions and has a genuine curiosity for learning dylan is not afraid to ask for help and has the courage to take on new challenges he demonstrates the commitment to learning from his experiences things are not always perfect but dylan can reflect and acknowledge his mistakes and strives to learn from them to grow as an individual next month dylan will walk the stage as a lakewood graduate dylan has been accepted to cleveland state university and plans on pursuing a degree in sports management dylan is a true example of growth mindset tonight i am honored to present our fso star student mr dylan yatson [Applause] congratulations sky's the limit for you moving on at the beginning of the 21-22 school year fso set three building goals that were associated with the vision of a lakewood graduate these

goals were student achievement student growth and student wellness tonight fso staff is here to give you an idea of how we succeeded in meeting these three goals now so first just an overview of our fso programming first off our ability to adjust to student specific specific educational needs we have flexibility in our instructional models so we have on-site learning and online learning and this year we've added the k5 elementary to make it a full k-12 online offering we offer things in the classroom like flexible seating flexible timelines and deadlines incentives that are interest-based for the students we have a later start time and a modified schedule and school day we utilize mastery grading we apply real world applications and our class sizes are are smaller again all these things kind of go together to increase

student achievement for our students hi i'm sarah hardy i'm the intervention specialist at fso i'm going to be speaking for emily depauw our middle school math and science teacher unfortunately she wasn't able to be here tonight um we started a new elective offered at fso this year which is forensic science so a select group of middle school students were invited to take the course and start earning high school elective credits based on their first and second quarter grades forensic one covers crime scene basics the innocence project the human skeleton blood typing and splatter handwriting analysis and hairs and fiber testing and differentiation students participated in a mock trial this year regarding the darley routeier case presenting arguments that supported and opposed darley's 1997 capital murder conviction students used forensic evidence to support their argument to

the jury and provided a reenactment of their version of events i was actually to i was able to be a jury member for them and they presented some very compelling arguments um they got dressed up in like suits and brought briefcases so it was they got really into it it was very cool to see they also created crime scene dioramas which i have two examples of here today which you are free to take a look at illustrating the evidence that can be collected from a crime scene the class was tasked with choosing a location for their crime determining what crime occurred and to whom each student had to create a story that coincided with their crime scene in addition to listing all the evidence that could be collected and the tests that could be run

so this is all their own creativity there and it's very cool um we are so proud of our forensic science students and all of the amazing work that they've done this year hi i'm hayden harrison i am the high school english teacher at franklin school of opportunity and i'm going to speak a little bit about our collaboration and global awareness initiatives at our school so ms hardy and i both represent our school on the diversity equity inclusion and belonging task force so we work to make sure we're aligned with the district's priorities but also keeping in mind our student specific needs as well so one thing that we worked on this year so far thanks to the help of as well is increasing our knowledge of trauma-informed instruction and how we respond to students and

what they might be dealing with that we either know or don't know um regardless it creates a more welcoming and supportive learning environment for our students to help with that student growth and achievement and then in february we also led a pd session ms hardy ms harpy and i to help other educators in the district do this as well then we continue to build our libraries and our classrooms to include more voices and diversity and then we incorporate culturally relevant curriculum within our classrooms um one good example is mr dinardo if you know him our history teacher he represents a lot of different countries within his class and also make sure that our students cultural backgrounds are represented and really highlights the different cuisines and culture that come with those and then we also encourage

students to share what they are comfortable with in their free rides so ms hardy and i both have our middle school students and our high school students participate in free writing if you're not familiar you write for seven minutes straight whatever is going on in your head it can be a little stressful at first when you get into it and they have really come into their own voice and become comfortable with doing that so they either can write about something that they would like like what's in their mind that day a journal about what's going on that day a memory from the past or even just something funny or if they need a prompt we provide them with a prompt but they have really began to become more confident in their individual voices which is

great as well so that's kind of all tied in together where we are creating a more comfortable and caring classroom so that our students are able to continue to grow and reach their achievement oh i've got it i've got it let me just say once again thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to come tell you about fso and show you some of our awesome students and some of the great things that the teachers and staff are doing i just want to wrap up by talking a little bit about our building connections program i can't take credit for building connections it's actually it started a couple years ago in the district and was originally called the compassion and resilience group um when i began i'm tina carp by the way i don't think

i introduced myself i'm the district lisw and part-time mental health counselor at fsl when i began this year mrs elwell and i talked about the bringing a building connections group to fso and we both agreed that it was it seemed like a great idea um and fortunately it found favor with the staff as well to tell you a little bit about building connections the idea is to provide school staff and teachers with an opportunity to give and receive support from their building peers along with trained mental health facilitators so we provide support and resources to teachers to offset stressors we help staff identify ways to improve coping and stress management and we allow teachers ideas and opportunities to talk through better ways to meet the needs of their students at fso we began in september

of 2021 and we meet on the first and third wednesday of each month at this point things always come up of course but we usually have between five and six staff members that meet pretty regularly if you look up at the iceberg when we originally started we sort of all agreed as a group that we wanted to start at the yellow arrow which you can't read but it says co-regulation teachers and staff recognized that they wanted to have more ideas and more strategies for helping students to regulate their emotions when they were getting upset that was a great idea we were super excited about it but it didn't take very long for us to realize that before you can co-regulate you have to start down there at that purple arrow all the way down that

is actually self-care and some of the steps between self-care and co-regulation include emotional intelligence and so we realized we had to take some steps back it wasn't easy our teachers especially our teachers really really good ones um are very dedicated to doing whatever it takes for our students and so when we realized we had to walk all the way back to how do we take care of ourselves so we can show up for our students it took a little bit of time but eventually we have gotten to the point where seasoned teachers who had been accustomed to white-knuckling it through their own stress and heartbreak and fatigue for the greater good of their students now have begun to realize that this approach despite its good intentions actually does the opposite of what they set out

to do we are coming to accept that exhausted burnt out and unwell teachers and staff have nothing left to give their students so each time we show up for each other we remind each other that we no sorry me before we newer teachers and staff are hopefully learning good habits from the start that they'll carry forth through out their careers shifting a little bit to the picture of the book about halfway through um our year my co-facilitator is hannah smith and she is a licensed independent social worker with our agency partner belfair she introduced the book building a trauma-informed compassionate classroom to our group and through it we are learning the science of how trauma and toxic stress manifest in students and the heart behind how we help them with it in the classroom this

is also the book that we relied on quite heavily for our uh our pd presentation that we did in february if anybody's interested in it by acknowledging their own experiences unmet needs and misperceptions staff have been better able to meet franklin school of opportunity students some of the most at risk and vulnerable in the district where they are and join with them to learn grow and develop real trusting relationships we know that having we know that feeling accepted and experiencing a sense of belonging is the key to successful learning and through this group fso teachers and staff are honoring that this is a lifelong process for the greater good of themselves and their students hit the right button all right so just the last thing we have a student that is new to our school

this year ben sorby and he has moved around quite a bit and we were talking the other day with him and he was talking about how fragile school of opportunity has really brought out the best student in him like schools have not worked for him before so we were talking about it and i asked if we could use his quote but he said in my experience in going to nine schools this one has less people so the teachers can pay more attention to students kids can sometimes get stuck in the school system and get behind we're not overlooked or lost in the cloud as cloud a smaller environment works better for me so i took the opportunity and it works so he's one of our 10th graders and he said that it truly has been

a smaller environment for him that makes him feel comfortable and he's able to thrive so we're excited to continue to work with him and hopefully he continues with us but that ends our presentation so thank you so much thank you any questions no questions but uh that was really moving it's it's obvious um how much your staff um support each other and then how that allows you to just work to the the kids the students benefit so much better so thank you so much for that presentation and for for everything you do for for our students i i know because we lost a couple years all of us i've seen this but i realized when i was listening to you tonight how much i've enjoyed and learned from your presentations to us or the graduation

ceremonies or and seen how you work and constantly evolve which i think is something that we all in our just general lives need to do um to grow and build and try new things so it was great to hear from all of you and i know it's a dedicated staff so thank you you know i i see that quote and over the years we've talked about franklin school when we changed over from a charter to as an alternative program and what we wanted it to be and that's what you all talked about and it kids feel it he wrote it he said it so congratulations excellent job so proud oh you want the dioramas back i thought we got to keep them i'm really jealous yes i was telling them i would like to take

the uh csi related class because it looks really yeah those dioramas were awesome they were very fun so we have another short presentation as we continue to support our schools and becoming gender inclusive and to directly support transgender and non-binary students i welcome miss bruning director of pupil services to the podium president shaughnessy vice president callahan board members superintendent whiskey and treasurer zeman i want to thank you for the opportunity to give you an overview of our gender identity conversations that have or will be occurring with our fifth and sixth graders this year um i think the last quote that the student from fso put up about not being overlooked and being included really kind of goes with what i'm going to talk about for a couple minutes before i go into the reason behind

the conversations that are happening in our district i wanted to share how the idea originally started last year a transgender student at one of our elementary schools met with his belfair counselor and was expressing how others were treating him and felt that if he could share about himself then maybe his classmates would be more accepting he and his counselor worked on a conversation he wanted to lead with her the principal met with them and felt this was something that should happen and the district agreed an opt-out letter was sent to all fifth grade families and two families did choose at that time to have their children opt out of the conversation we are so grateful for that student and the courage for showing us that there was an important need in our district that was

not being addressed that's the how we came to have the conversations i want to share a little bit about the why we know that lgbtq children are at an increased risk for mental health concerns such as depression suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior compared with their cisgender heterosexual peers in fact according to statistics statistics from project thrive a national campaign to support lgbtq plus youth 35 percent of our lgbtq 45 percent of transgender and 40 percent of questioning youth have seriously considered attempting suicide compared to 13 percent of non-lgbtq youth according to a study published in the journal of adolescence health having their chosen name respected in just one area of life significantly reduces mental health symptoms decreases suicidal ideation by 29 percent and suicidal behavior by 56 percent this year in the majority of our

elementary schools and middle schools we have students who identify as lgbtq plus and for some this is a difficult journey even with family and friends supporting it was decided as a district that the conversation that began last year in one school should continue in all our elementary schools and for this year at the sixth grade when we look at the vision of a graduate we as a district want to instill in all our students not only the six competencies but that our students view the competencies and our lakewood school community with the lens of diversity equity inclusion and belonging so we are having conversations led by one of our community partners either belfair or ohio guidestone and at times partnered with our own students letting students talk about gender identity is not to confuse children

but to allow them to ask and get answers to questions they already have in the end it's not about telling children what their gender is it's about creating learning spaces that encompass all children discussions at both home and school are appropriate places for students to be taught to respect differences and to work together to accomplish good and protect each other from bullying our district provides co-ed maturation lessons for all our fifth grade students each year the gender identity lessons are purposeful purposefully provided prior to the conversation about physical changes since they both help students gain greater understanding about themselves and their peers these conversations are meant as a companion to what parents and other caregivers discuss with children at home and both the conversations are with the with respect to the family have the ability

to opt out of either of these if they feel that this is not what they um would like to have their children um involved with at this time for lakewood it means teaching children not to judge others based on race sexuality gender identity family type class or religion schools are ethically and legally obligated to protect their students from harassment and to create safe and supportive schools for all the children who come through our doors thank you any any questions or thoughts i'd like to comment thank you so much for that i can't stress enough how important i think that that programming is as a parent i had the opportunity to volunteer at the recent harding harding hangout and i saw a lot of students many of whom i've known for a long time um experience

the joy of being the their true selves in that kind of uh event students that you know exhibiting different kinds of gender expression and you know i know that a primary reason to have this kind of program is to protect our kids and prevent harassment but when we talk about diversity equity and inclusion we've added belonging and that belonging is so vitally important for these kids and that they were able to walk in as themselves belong in that environment and just experience the joy of having that moment as middle schoolers i think that that is something that it was like we should really be proud of so thank you for doing that i think it's really important to make to give support to students at a time in our lives from where all of us

are most vulnerable the most confused uh adolescence isn't easy for anybody and when i think back to the friends that i have from high school who were gay and hidden and afraid i i just you know this brings tears to my eyes i think because i think of my friends and the things that people older people have gone through and i think the fact that we're able to offer support for the diversity that our children have to to give them an equal opportunity to have friends to have a to have connections to people it's a wonderful thing and i'm so very very proud of lakewood city schools for our involvement and programs of this kind thank you welcome and i do have one report but i think there's an action there is an action thank

you we amended the agenda um to move the certified administrator we have uh under previously under other board business the certified administrative resolution here that uh accomplishes two things one uh the resignation uh from the position of coordinator of teaching and learning of brenda budzar and she's joining us here this evening for the purpose of appointment to the principal position at lincoln and so i would move approval uh of that resolution okay it's they've been moved and seconded is this done one reading question yeah so we require a role called vote ms shaughnessy aye mr callahan aye ms beebe aye ms katzenberg aye so we are very happy that the resolution passes and brenda budzar will be principal this is very exciting i am going to welcome mr schlade director of human resources to come

up and share some of his thoughts thank you mrs nidzwicki president shaughnessy vice president callahan mrs beebe mrs katzenberger i always have to look because i always want to say captain moyer thank you um this this is a process that began way back in february on the end of february i was looking at my notes when um fran hannahan and i came right over here to meet with the teaching staff and the classified staff at lincoln just to kind of get their feedback and their feel for what they were looking for in their next in their next building leader in their next principle and we heard things such as pro teacher you know someone that's been in the in the trenches so to speak so they know what we're doing and how we're trying to

get there and and you know someone that demonstrates collaboration um is thoughtful a thoughtful observer was one of the things that i heard and there was a person throughout the process and you've all heard her name already this evening but that kept coming the name kept coming up as the one that kept fitting these criteria that we heard here on february 24th and as you know and as you as you've heard we're happy to after the interview process all shook itself out happy to bring the name brenda budzar to the to the board tonight for uh for a recommendation for that next uh as the next principal here at lincoln she's been a teacher not only here in lakewood but elsewhere she's been a coordinator of teaching and learning for the district i want to

say since like 2014. does that sound about right and she's uh she's also served most recently during that crazy co-bid time that we had she was the acting principal for um all of our students that wanted to remain 100 remote when we started coming back in and she did an outstanding job working with the with the teachers that we had doing that for us whether it was onboarding them and getting them ready or just kind of overseeing the programming once she got it off and running and we wouldn't have had the success there that we had had it not been for brenda and just a really cool note of interest about brenda before she came to lakewood she'd been at several other northeast ohio districts but also worked for the department of defense in south

korea which i just think is kind of a neat fact to mention and so i'll be quiet now and ask brenda if she'd like to come up and or maybe you want to maybe you want to do your thing first we are good did that yeah [Laughter] [Applause] good evening president shaughnessy vice president callahan mrs bibi mrs katzenberg superintendent news wiki and mr zeeman and the rest of cabinet it is an absolute honor to be chosen as the next principal of lincoln elementary to be able to join one of our vibrant elementary learning communities to be able to continue my collaboration with my dynamic elementary principal team and the dedicated staff and students and families at lincoln i thank my husband mark our three lhs graduates zoe evan and max who i might be watching

um and my extended family and friends represented by my mom for the continued support so i look forward to this new opportunity thank you [Applause] congratulations so this has been a long superintendent's report i do want to share with others that we're going to continue on with board business um now is your time to leave if you'd like to this concludes the superintendent yeah i love meetings like this is really what it should be about is about just that concludes the superintendent's report i don't know what i was waiting for because there was a lot of information um okay thank you very much we now move on to the consent agenda is there a motion to accept the consent agenda so moved second it's been moved and seconded uh this requires the roll call vote

aye mr callahan aye ms beebe aye ms katzenberger aye and the consent agenda is approved we now move on to human resources and community services report and mr callahan thank you president shaughnessy we have uh before us first of all certified actions uh there are eight including three unpaid leaves of absence and five special compensations uh mr zieman may i combine certified classified and uh classified non-employee coaches advisors yes thank you so again eight actions under certified and then under classified we have the three appointments and one special compensation and one salary and pay rate adjustment and then we have three actions uh they are appointments under uh classified non-employee coaches and advisors so i would move approval of those items thank you it's been moved and seconded that we accept certified classified and classified

non-employee coaches actions all in favor signify by saying aye aye aye and those are approved thank you next we have under community recreation and education a total of 44 actions 27 in aquatics one in athletics and 16 programs and i believe that requires a roll call vote i would move approval there thank you community recreation and education motion has been made and seconded mr zeeman miss hausey aye mr callahan aye ms beebe aye mr katzenberger aye thank you and then next uh finally here under human resources we have on our second reading here the memorandum of understanding between the the lakewood city school uh board of education and the uh the teachers union i believe this is as we're aware under uh in regards to uh online learning options and i would move approval there

the resolution's been moved and seconded all in favor signified by saying aye aye and the resolution carries thank you very much so we move on to other other board business i believe mr callahan you continue i do we have two uh certified we had we took care of the the first certified administrative we have the two right uh two certified that we have two certified um the retirements that would that we're being asked to approve on one reading this would be for barbara lynch and mary pat wise so i would move approval there okay that is it's been moved and seconded approvals requested on one reading so that would require roll call i'm miss shaunicy aye mr cavalhan aye ms beebe ms katzenberger aye thank you resolution curious and then finally under classified we have

one resignation this to being asked to approve on one reading and thus requires a role called vote i would move approval second it's been moved and seconded mr zeman uh ms shaughnessy aye mr calahan aye ms beebe ms katzenberger thank you and the resolution carries i think that concludes thank you very much okay we now move on to opportunity for communication i would ask my fellow board members if they have received any communications they care to share i um just wanted to mention again the engaging with wellness event that's april 30th i believe at the high school 10 to 3 that i know lakewood pta council has been working very hard on along with a number of other people and also i thought um lakewood pta council is having their annual flower sale it's their

one big way to raise money and i believe you can order until may 9th and then pick up flowers on the 28th i got some last year they were lovely and they actually survived my transient cares so much so um i think it is i try it's on the pta website okay um yeah and you do it online and then pick them up so that was i just i think it's all has was it shared during the weekly flyers or something too or has it been right okay that was another place people can look for this is what i was i think this i know they were passing these out but um and other than that i didn't receive too many communications so neither of you having um i just want to mention at the

last board meeting the board did approve the opportunity for the district to do an advanced refunding of currently outstanding debt due to market conditions inflationary and others that savings has now been reduced to lower than a net present value of three percent that i mentioned last time so at this point it wouldn't be fiscally responsible to move forward with that however we are in the position should the market change um to be able to go out to do that refinancing um on that currently outstanding that so just like someone refinancing their home right now is probably not a good idea it's not a good idea for us to refinance that debt but again if the market condition changes then we'll be able to do that at that time and we're all set then we connect

fast correct and actually just as a side note standard and poor's did validate our rating of double a2 which is the second highest rating that school districts can receive in the state of ohio good thank you congratulations to the treasurer and your department because you are responsible for that much of that rating it's it's the support of the community and um and all everything that everyone does in the district so thank you um we had one um member of the public who signed up to speak a julia toke she left okay but that was the only one so um any additional comments then is there a motion to adjourn i move adjournment second it's been moved and seconded that we adjourn all in favor signify by saying i i opposed and we are adjourned thank

you all for coming
