0014th i like to call this meeting supporter real conflict mr ballard here mr sterile miss nazario here ms johnson here and mr williams i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the brotherhood which stands in one nation of america indivisible with everything against the sorrow so many wives first hearing of the public nothing outstanding um i need a motion to approve a minute from our august 24th meeting second welcome mr strangel yes miss johnson yes mr ballard yes mr rosario yes mr williams yes and next we have our own business these are anything in old business same hearing enough uh first reporting recommendations of our treasurer i have items 8.01 through 8.04 for approval um that's yes yeah okay outstanding next recommendations of our ceo personnel matters thank you
002espresso um i like to recommend it for approval 9.01 any motion question support does that have any discussion yes mr williams yes mr valley yes ms johnson for affordable uh items 9.02 to 9.06 support any discussion no call miss johnson yes mrs yes mr valley yes mrs ariel yes mr williams yes and before we get into operations matters i do have a few updates for you if i could have dr sturgill neanderon you'll see on the board agenda there's the purchase of two school buses two used buses and we've had this conversation in public a few times in the past but we'd like to give you uh the board and the community and update although the board has been very involved in this from the beginning um we are purchasing two buses now and the
003plan is to purchase three more in november and the reason why we're waiting until november is because uh we have a relationship with the school district who says they have really good used buses that are very inexpensive um so we the the purpose of those five buses for now uh the first two are going to be ones for food service and one is for the health clinic and the food service bus the plan for that is um they are going to we have a place in town who outfits these these uh buses and steven's gonna walk you through some of these here in a second but we looked at these during my first tour when we were looking to put clinics in our schools and they were cost prohibitive they're about 500 000 to purchase
004and hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain well in working with mercy health it turns out there is somebody in the city of lorraine who is a non-profit that does this and he sends them all over the world he was the one that steve was going to show you today that one up in the left-hand corner is currently in haiti i think he said yeah so they're they're all over the place but this is what they do and the cost is actually very doable uh to buy the bus and convert it into a health clinic is about 150 thousand dollars we'll be working with um we'll be using esser funds to cover our share of that and we're currently working with mercy health with their their foundation to work on to know what the proper
005split of that would be what that would allow us to do is to provide better uh care for our families and their children and separate that from our schools the other is the um in the upper right-hand corner and steve's going to walk you through that one is a food service bus now the plan for that is to feed our children as we talked before in a previous meeting we get reimbursements from the state on school lunches school breakfasts and now we're serving dinner for for school dinners and those reimbursements go to a fund and the only thing we can spend that money on is feeding our children so we're investing in a food service bus actually i like to do the plan is to do two of them one now and one with the
006batch in november and what they will do during the summer time is drive around to where our kids are and make sure they get fed um our goal is in the summer time to provide breakfast lunch and dinner to our students to our children it's clearly a need and it's it's one that again esser funds will i'm sorry esr funds will cover the this one this will be covered for or paid for out of the 006 account that can only be spent on feeding children um so stephen i can't ramble down a little bit but if you kind of walk folks through and and kind of do the diagram and and walk folks through it exactly what's in our trailers you must have my notes we are in the process and today you are purchasing
007two of the buses and one of them is going to be used for as i got the grounds there to be food sorry um for the food truck that we are working with aramark and our team on and then also the second one is for the general medical center which will work on mercy and our team on i got to tell you mary maez has been outstanding she's excellent and can't thank her enough because she's been taking the lead on this helping us find the buses and really going and looking at the bus to make sure they're quality and ready to purchase so mary is doing a great job i can't thank her enough so we are working with mobile outreach solutions they are the company that are working with us and again we have
008the first thing five we're looking at uh two food service trucks which one general medical one dental and one vision and so that's kind of the plan right now and if i could jump in there real quick steven if you don't mind while you're strolling over uh the mercy health clinic has been something we started about five or six years ago and i remember walked into edeli's office we were talking about what needs were and he said jeff we're in and since that time they've been incredibly responsive not just to our healthcare needs this way but helping us to get through cobit i had some actually barbie washington reach out today and share that we had some parents that were turned away from the uh the mercy clinic because uh they were full um so
009i called up mercy health and uh talked to the person in charge and said uh well we're here you know we maxed out i talked to katie to find out who's our nurse practitioner and the reason they're turning people away is because they've hit there at their capacity so talk to mark rowell from mercy health and he called me back about 15 minutes later and they've got a plan for the short term with two more the support of two more nurse practitioners and extra staffing to make sure people get scheduled smoothly so again consistent with the way they've behaved since uh first shook hands with them they're incredibly responsive to meeting our needs so if you have been turned away from mercy health please call back again um our goal is to make sure you
010get in on the day that you have a need so but so again we're growing the program and this will help with that yes so i'm gonna start actually with the uh the general medical center uh this is a a bus format the door is in the middle not a problem and as you can see we have uh two uh actual um meeting areas uh that people come in and be served by uh two different uh you know physicians or or uh you know physician assistant nurse assistant uh the great thing about this is um it could be shore power which is it could be hooked up to a building and we're also gonna have a generator to it and again we're working with mercy this is not exactly what it's going to look like
011but it's an example of what they use in haiti and you can see down here is when we're ready actually after you purchase today they're going to receive a bus they're going to build it to scale and provide us with a drawing and so you can see here what it looks like on top for the general medical which is a pretty outstanding design this right here is a food truck from kansas city that they put together for a company in kansas city and uh we already started working with air mark on the design and ours will look significantly different because we're actually going to have two serving areas on on the side that we could serve out of two areas and have some more um they wanted some more warmers installed there so we're working
012with aramar to make sure that we have a really nice system for them a woman already so everything's been going really good our next steps is after we purchase the buses tonight uh mary's people will actually go pick up the buses we're going to take one of the buses to tom again he's going to go ahead and start designing to scale and then we're going to work with mercy and aramark on the natural design over the next two weeks questions do you have any idea when we think they'll be completed i'll speak to that when we originally met and had conversations it typically takes from the time we sign to the time they finish it's 21 days right now because of the effects of covet everything is difficult to order and right now according to
013tom the person who's been meeting with us um i think the the right now the generator is what's taking the most time it's 30 weeks but again it's steve mentioned we can get these and plug them in so there are ways we can get around it to begin to use them sooner but the first thing to do is to pounce on it we also had other options uh that when we went visited there they have and they actually brought one here but they have rvs that they convert they have box trailers that they convert there's pros and cons to all of them this is the one that was the most cost effective most and most efficient use of space according to tom school buses have are much easier to use and build than some of
014these others and the rvs are very expensive um not quite twice the cost but in that ballpark um but this appears to be the again you buy a bus for seven thousand dollars as opposed to the the rv that you have to strip for 150 000. so just the starting point is significantly different but again this would be a way for us to provide more meals to our children in the summertime uh three meals a day and again also dinners during the the school year and allow us the opportunity to expand services with mercy health to make sure that the health care needs of our families are being met and again right now the clinic is at merce or sorry at washington elementary school but once they're mobile again another advantage to the bus is
015they're easy to move around easy to maneuver but you can take them and put them anywhere so i believe what mercy plans to do is have it on the school sites during the day um and then somewhere else for second shift so you could drop it off at the parking lot at el centro you can uh take it anywhere in town that will have us and and make sure that our families know that that's that's their form so the cost that i'm saying here is that for two chassis or is that for a perv bus i want to see the i thought the total was do you have a copy i thought there were seven thousand a piece no that's probably both it's probable so it's 9 900 for both yes okay that's for both
016that one's in november or seven thousand that's right i should buy one of those for my backyard exactly used buses there's a process you have to follow to sell them there's not a lot of buyers so schools that have them break down in the middle but the advantage of school buses is they are very well maintained they have to be the state inspects them every year and these are the past inspection again we know the people that own the bus and trust the people behind the desk and they say these are solid buses and to quote to tom's point again the person guiding us through this process you can do a lot of repairs for the difference between a four thousand dollar bus and a hundred fifty thousand dollar rv so it's uh and one
017of the original things we were concerned about when we looked at this originally five or six years ago uh was maintenance i was reading his three hundred thousand dollars a year to to maintain uh tom will maintain these for us as well and the maintenance is nothing near that then again they'll all be included in our agreement with mercy moving forward so do you need to approve it on time well i'm going to recommend them all in a second so make sure you get your questions answered there too did you guys anybody else have any further questions everyone's clear okay okay and uh you want to give us an update there a couple updates ross on the strategic plan and covered covered first we'll go in first please yeah so um we and if you
018follow the latest news here we have two entire football teams that have been putting the quality now um so two of our middle school teams are in quarantine so our numbers went uh quite a bit up uh so i think there's 20 uh 22 at the one school and 25 at the other um and that players were not wearing masks in the locker room and so i know brian has talked with the coaches about you know making sure that any time inside we have masks on so our numbers have gone up um overall um now we are at uh 92 uh you see no 293 students in quarantine that have been in quarantine since the start of the school year at some point which is just under five percent of our students um so that's
019a lot um and the the sports teams have put that up quite a bit so we had the two football teams we also had a volleyball team um and then one of the middle schools um that that was a completely boring team um a few weeks ago um students wise uh for those in isolation and covenant positive we have 93 total to this point in the year um right now we currently have 21 that are in isolation so that's where we are there um when we look at this back to quarantine and students again the overwhelming majority of the of the quarantines are because of outside of school so about two-thirds are outside of school and sports um we're at we've had 54 students that had to quarantine because of cafeterias so we made an
020adjustment a couple weeks ago with the cafeterias to have more tables in so we can make sure that we're three feet apart um so that's level off um and then we're at 42 um total quarantines due to um exposure in classrooms um and so so that's that's where we are our numbers have gone up um a bit uh you'll you'll see it uh you know there's a spike because of the teams overall um but yeah that's right and i'd like to thank mary and kevin out mary mays kevin out and all our building level leaders um obviously coming back from covid there are a lot of things we predicted we'd have to deal with but there are many things we didn't and so in addition to dealing with those things to recreate lunch on the
021fly was was a challenge again when we were coming back into the school year we were told there'd be no more quarantining you know from the spring and then things change with this new variant so some principals had to had lunch periods some had to um take a transform classroom space or gym space to put more tables in to make sure that our kids were safe but to redo your schedule the first couple weeks of school is is a lot but again our folks got through it with smiles on their faces and uh and it's just very much appreciated so from again mitigation standpoint um and again the biggest mitigation is is to get uh vaccinated and so we have a survey going out to families again for interest in vaccination the health department is
022happy to partner with us to do clinics on site in our schools but we do need enough participants to make it worthwhile to come out so we've got a survey that's going out and we're asking for families just to indicate the school and if they'd be interested for their students that are would be currently eligible and then for those presuming sometime here in the next few weeks pfizer will be presenting to the fda for approval for five to eleven-year-olds um those that would be interested for their uh five to eleven-year-old so we can try to change the need and again the health department's been fantastic partners with us and they're they're happy to help and to do vaccination clinics again with us back on site again uh but we need to let them know you
023know what the level of interest is uh before they'll commit to doing that are we putting that out there that we we expect that to happen by say halloween the five to 11 year old i mean are we are we advertising there we just got we're going to wait until it happens we yeah we don't want to give a date on that because that's not um i mean that's just not something we have any control over but we you know i mean we want to gauge interest um so that when that approval uh presumably when it's approved um you know we're we have a pulse anyway on the level of interest and so we can be real proactive with the health department again um to host some more clinics on site i'm looking forward to
024it any additional questions okay so for a strategic plan i've got a lot of updates here so we'll start just with culture um so the a couple action steps that are are underway and one kind of part of it completing and then that's going to lead to the next one so we will be meeting as a district leadership team tomorrow and we'll be finishing up our book study of the culture code which is an important action step for us because that leads them into the development of our survey and so our surveys we're going to be surveying our students our staff and families around culture and we're going to organize it around the three main areas that within the culture code around safety and emotional safety around vulnerability and then around purpose so tomorrow morning
025we'll our district leadership team will meet and we're going to do some kind of synthesis of of the main points from each of those three sections of the book study and then the implementation team will be meeting in the afternoon to take the main content out for us to formulate the basis for our surveys um so that's going to be coming real soon here um let's see carol you're here i thought still here um do you want to talk just a little bit about your team and the working on the diverse hiring and uh retaining diverse candidates hello everyone good to see everyone tonight so yes so i'm on i think my my number is healthy culture three is it ross i was with the numbers so i think i'm age three healthy culture three
026and so my team is really um focused on the area of diversity recruiting and retention as well as the recruiting because that's that's right in tandem with it if you don't if you can't retain then you know you're also at a disadvantage so we're working tomorrow and we're going to be kind of shifting some of our gears as we found out that we need to do a bit more learning we've come across some information that kind of has made us kind of take a little step back and say we need to get some root cause analysis and some research on it so we're going to be identifying some areas of research tomorrow and taking our action steps from there uh to learn more and be more knowledgeable as we move forward with our action steps
027and really one of the things we've talked about is that everybody's competing for us from the same pool yeah do you mind talking just a little bit about that and just how competitive it is oh yes very competitive i was just talking to dr graham the other day i recently attended the northeast ohio school personnel administrators conference and will be attending the ohio association personnel administrators conference which is strictly focused on diversity equity and inclusion and truly throughout the state folks are struggling to get diverse candidates into the districts there was a study it was a few years back so we want to get some new details and statistics that coming out of ohio universities four percent of the students graduating were diverse students so even the colleges and universities have mentioned their struggle of
028getting and attracting students of color to the education field so i mean that's another area where we need to learn more how do we do that um how do we get more folks into education and to blend that stat with a due statistic i read and i forget the baseline so i apologize but it was at bowling green state university that the number of people going into education has dropped 47 percent so again that 4 is a number it's four percent of a very small number yes so far fewer people yeah absolutely so i mean um one of the things we also want to focus on as a team is some of the grow your own initiatives is um attracting and retaining folks in our community and and building up those folks and in allowing
029opportunity just here in our own communities and attracting folks back to lorraine is part of it so lots of good work to be done and the healthy culture area but all starts with quality listening and then reacting accordingly so thank you absolutely uh next big thing that that we're working on this we're really excited about where this is going here is developing our scope and sequence so from now switching to a teaching and learning uh perspective so uh actually bill you guys mind talking just a little bit about what's coming for uh monday with our staff working with our uh curriculum academic support specialists to prioritize standards and the lead invent the development of scope and sequence thank you so we've been working with our um curriculum specialist on developing um sessions for monday september
03020th where we're taking a a close look at prioritizing our standards which would then lead into leveling our standards and then we'll get into more of writing curricular units but right now we're looking at our pre-k to two being together so that we can see standards vertically as well as horizontally and uh the outcome of outcome of that will be what are we teaching and when are we teaching um and so tomorrow during the dlt on the tl4 initiative is to really look at the scope and sequence what does it look like for us um there's examples all over but what does it look like for lorraine city schools so um what do we want involved in that what does it mean because we know like some sometimes people get confused with language with vocabulary
031they think curriculum is a resource and standards are something else and not curriculum so really like zeroing in on what does it look like for us and then taking the work from monday and actually putting it into a scope and sequence so that um knowing the transitions that students make in lorraine city schools from one school to the next we want to be able to alleviate the gaps that can come if i transfer from helen steiner rice to jacinto so we want to make sure that that all of those standards are aligned and not that we're expecting people to be at the same place at the same time on the same day because that's unrealistic but we are expecting some continuity among buildings around the standards that are being taught throughout the school year so
032this prioritization is really important as well as the leveling of it after the prioritization so where when i get my class where is the entry point for all of my students and we know that looks different from every classroom so how do i access the standard if i'm a fifth grade student and i'm i'm struggling to get there how do i get into that standard so that um i can actually learn and master the standard at grade level so this prioritization we're doing on monday and then sequencing it out it's just it's really important work um to our strategic planning and making sure that our students graduate college and career ready and and you guys really decide for last meeting the first thing we've got to nail down what are we teaching and what are
033we teaching it and we need we need that continuity consistency of expectation across the district so that's that's where we're starting all right awesome next thing that we'll touch on is so positive behavior intervention supports or pbis and so that team has been meeting now for uh almost a year and uh we've on a kind of same theme of continuity we're now we've put together a draft of manual that we introduced to principals and staff in august that is expected to be and is consistent across the district so one of the first things that we learned last year when we're preparing for students to come back in person after the new year uh was that while we had 15 schools we also had 15 sets of expectations and while all those expectations were perfectly fine
034there were still 15 different sets of expectations so if you have a child in multiple schools you would have multiple sets of expectations you believe that as our students transition from one elementary school to a middle school to high school they go through multiple different sets of expectations and all the expectations were perfectly fine but we really needed one set of common expectations across the district and so that is where the emphasis the team decided we need an emphasis on kindness so be kind to self be kind to others be kind to environment that applies doesn't matter if you're in a preschool it doesn't matter if you're in elementary middle school or high school it applies everywhere and so we've got i think a really just awesome team that has uh teachers on it it
035has some parapros on it and principals some central office reuben has uh is there so we've got safety and security um so we're we've got the new uh behavior specialist uh sharon from reedy is joining the team uh we're meeting tomorrow afternoon so we've got a really good diverse team and our big thing that we're working on right now uh and we've been partnering with aaron on this is like the branding for our signs so we'll have signs going up across the district that are again common across in all buildings featuring our students and our kindness based on location we're also we discovered that from a data standpoint our building-based teams uh just need better data um to be able to be proactive and preventative and so we've been working to design a way to
036really process our referral data so we know things at a simple level of what day time location type of behavior are the big things that we need to intervene with so we can be proactive and and intervene uh before we get to you know some more intense behaviors so we're working on that tomorrow afternoon to take a look what we've got is a draft for our data system and then uh let's see and then the other thing is now talking consistency across the district of what are major interactions versus minor infractions which should be classroom managed versus office managed to again have a consistent approach across the district for that so those are big things we're working on there and then the last thing a really big thing here on monday is kind of our
037big kickoff to equity and that part of our plan so we know that equity drives um it really partnered with culture it drives everything in our in our plan so on monday our building leadership teams our district leadership team and then the central office team will be participating in uh the first of uh actually a three-year partnership um here with elise vertura sam coleman and colleen capper and uh the emphasis that we're going to be talking about learning about first history marginalization and education um so we'll spend some time there then we're going to look at the impact of programs to perpetuate marginalization and then asset-based versus deficit-based thinking so it sets a foundation for our equity work going forward um so that's in the approach with equity that is unique in terms of the
038the group we chose to use is that it's a systems approach so we know that our system is broken not that we have bad people but we have bad practices that have been that have existed for a very very long time and we need to call them out and fix them but again we've worked with them in the past and they're also never in different places uh not quite a deca about a decade ago and uh yeah they're just they're they're fantastic and their approach again is the only one that i'm aware of that approaches or attacks it from a systems standpoint questions for the board just um thanks for um figuring out how to address these things systemically and we've talked we talked about this a lot and we kind of run around in
039circles not because of poor intentions but it's just hard to find out where to start um and then sometimes that means we don't start because we can't find the best starting point so it's good to be able to map out a plan um and same thing with what we're looking at in terms of retention and recruiting these are areas that there's not a good playbook out there and so we've struggled and we need help so i'm glad we're bringing in folks that can help us do the things that we feel are the best right things to do so thank you thank you okay i like the board to consider for approval items 10.01 to 10.19 operation matters support any discussion okay mr sturgill yes mr williams yes mr ballard yes mr zaria yes ms johnson
040that's all i have i apologize for this traction i've got a string tickling my nose so is there any new business guys anybody have anything for new business nothing there the committee reports so we have our second hearing of the public on that one market um on the new business the record no the request for four members because it's kind of new yes but there were three items that um we discussed in the past and i didn't really think it was just old business um and it had to do with lfi initiatives one was the atrium component that could bridge over the um outside the auditorium connecting it to the administration building the concern was lack of space for egress and just um kind of a missing piece of the design and we had gotten
041some numbers before that seemed pretty high so again um maybe looking at those drawings refreshing that and seeing um what could be done at not that dollar amount the other part of that i think was a professional development slash board some kind of space that was created for for those pieces i think all the things we're doing in professional development and adult learning that could be something that we again look at the third there was discussion around some kind of a maintenance garage here at the high school facility um it got kicked around a bit got kicked real hard um but just to revisit um and also understand better and i think mary can help with this what we're doing with our present situation in terms of vehicles um mowers all that other stuff and
042then just to find out um what efficiency this would bring um both from cost savings and time management with everything and again i don't know that these weren't items that we said yeah yeah yeah i know the first two we were pretty excited about uh the third it was a lot of um there were a lot of challenges around it based on the cost presented and and all that so uh to get a fresh look at those especially i think um tia indicated we have a pretty healthy lfi fund and we're what how many years post the high school so i think the lfi initiatives probably should get accelerated so that we can close that whole chapter because technically the um the bond oversight committee would still exist because there are funds that haven't been
043expended from that project and we should really close that project down um that's you know so anyway just get some i'll do that for you great and if i just if i could just elaborate for our community the lfi funds are funds that are left over from the building project that can only be spent on building facility pieces so just so that's clear locally funded initiatives there was been the interest money accumulated during that time thank you thank you thank you anyone else no one else okay we have our next hearing of the public is there anyone from the public hey everyone i wanted to invite everyone for our aces for autism game volleyball game it is on the 23rd um freshmen start at 4 30 jb about 5 30 and varsity at 6 30
044we'll be selling t-shirts and the proceeds will benefit local charity camp ideas who specialize um with kids with special needs and kids on the autism spectrum i wanted to make everyone aware that suicide is the second leading cause of death in our youth in september is prevention suicide prevention awareness month i think would be great if at some level we can acknowledge that in our schools i did write an email out to a lot of folks here i'm not sure if you guys had a chance to look that over i know for breast cancer awareness we usually have the guys tape up on the football field with pink tape same thing like volleyball there's online like nami has posters you can print um we have local nami just something to bring awareness i know we've
045lost a couple students over the last few years we talk a lot about social emotional health and i think that would be important sorry i didn't get to that sooner and i know we've had our plates overflowing for sure but we have a couple weeks so maybe we can get something done i have a concern about final forms um i know that there's a low percentage at a lot of the schools i'm turning those in are we able to use maybe different wording to let uh the families know that this is the new ema formed maybe that is a little misunderstanding that we're not aware that final forms is replacing um and then there is some cur concerns about the busing i guess like students are not um i guess following procedures on the bus
046or they don't maybe families are not certain what the proper procedures are on the bus so if we can make that known for everybody okay that's it thank you hi i'm marge walker and i was wondering do the students have to wear the mask and do we have to continue wearing the masks until we die do the students have to wear masks their students are required to wear masks that's really they're young they're not supposed to have this virus as easily as those old people and you're making them wear masks i have to breathe and i have to take my mask off at times to breathe and this is a terrible situation we're all being suckered into this is from the public my name is renata canterbury and i have a couple of questions i
047know the government gave all the school systems money do you mind if i ask how much the school system got combined with all three about 56 million about 56 million how much about 56 million dollars total okay i understand there's going to be a school levy coming up that's correct i'd like to know how this money's going to be spent no no it's a great question and there's the there's the the maintenance of equity is there's the piece we there's only certain things we can spend this money on and we can't take it and just put it straight into our general fund i'd also like to know about the ventilation systems in the schools so we have some of this money going to cover that and this is a brand new school we have very
048good ventilation systems systems in the school we actually have very very high efficient fielders we had it checked out during cobin and we are we are very very high well they keep saying that this uh um problem that's going on in this country is you know i just don't get it some schools probably are all these schools are being built all these brand new schools they don't need a ventilation system at least as far as i know we've got i think we have 18 in this building i think we have 18 different ventilation systems just just in this building they maintained filtering system so is this all the schools that are going to have to uh put new ventilation systems in because of this virus our schools will not no okay that's what i want
049to know thank you no thank you anything else from the public so i'm going to request i don't know if steven should do this or bam you should do this to kind of give us an update on what's going on with the levy all right for you guys we'll have two duets for tonight right off there's two duets we can make a video show out of stephen where's this levy community it should be it should be in your pocket you should give her a little one right yes so yes we're we're in the midst we had um god i would have started i'm trying my notes here thanks uh actually it's going very well we have a timeline that we're adhering to uh so for instance tomorrow at 5 30 we have our committee meeting
050um it is by zoom and more people are welcome but our committees and we have seven committees actually meet uh and talk about what they're doing for um the levy for instance we have door door they're gonna start making the plan of how we're gonna go door-to-door um but first make sure no we're not door-to-door knocking on no we're not we're not doing the work because not with the pandemic we're just gonna do door hangers yeah um so so tomorrow at 5 30 we actually have a meeting with our committee members to go over our plan and make sure that we are adhering to our timeline as far as i love you vr signs are ordered and they should be in on friday uh and we're gonna start distributing the art signs about a week
051um from the actual voting which is uh i think it's october 5th from the early voting early voting and so we'll actually pass all your signs we have door hangers that'll be going out also so we're doing a lot of work to make sure that uh we're getting out to the community and getting our message out also um yeah good question about the federal funds but like dr grant said you know we cannot use those federal funds they're restrictive funding and that's been the message that we have to get out to the people but that's one question i get a lot and so does vandy uh but so um things are going very well that's what i want to know if they answered your question questions no the gentleman he had asked me at the
052one meeting about it did he answer your question though that you're sad fight or do you want something else to answer because i really want you to understand that okay thanks so anyways uh last week i mailed out letters to the vendors that laureen city schools deals with and we had some individuals mail out to their personal friends then i talked with stephen he's getting me letters because i'm going to send it out to the area businesses and banks about supporting the learning city schools and also our elected officials not just in lorraine but in illyria at the courthouse because this is the way i feel they have no problem asking us to ted their functions they should support us also so i think we should be able to get some money with that and
053hopefully we'll start getting money in so if anybody knows of anybody that should we should reach out to let me know or stephen though and then i can send a letter to them then we're also going to have a fundraiser on wednesday october 13th here at the lorraine high cafeteria we're working with airmark and we're going to have us carry out only spaghetti dinner so to earn some money because i thought well the money we could earn from here could probably pay for one mailing because it's getting down to the point where we need money so we know exactly what we're able to do and right now we can do the signs and the signs you know and uh probably the door to door but we need to at least have another mailing right at
054the end i believe like the week before elections to send out that's important so that's about it we meet every week every week if i could just respond to that question one more time for the the covered relief funds and this is to the people in the audience but also the people in our community if anybody has any questions or wants to chat about this please give me a call but the coping relief funds it is a lot of money but it's aimed purely at um covered relief so as a result of kova a lot of our families are struggling in many many ways in terms of the unemployment rate is very high so we do people need food people need our students need health care our students need social emotional supports our students need
055all kinds of wraparound services which is what steven is in charge of and and aj these are all things that have been a strong focus for us because it's not just coming out of covid where kids integrate back in schools we're seeing a lot of areas where they struggle and some we predicted as i mentioned earlier and many we didn't but again we can't just take that money and use it to go in our general fund and pay for our day-to-day stuff but again if you have any questions about any of that stuff please give me a call i'd love to meet with you sure i i do want to thank you you um you just said contact me i uh send you an email and you get right back and i appreciate that um
056i also want to thank um miss uh aj is that okay to say and um dr sturge uh we had a great meeting today and um they're planning uh or i'll say we're planning there's a team um that's getting the parent engagement back together and um and i said parents and i said we're not gonna say parent right and a family engagement going again and um while you know everybody might not always agree on you know just a certain decision being made i think it's i always say it's a family and um it just feels really good it feels really good and i just want to thank everybody that is working so hard to you know get the ball rolling in the right direction so thank you everyone thank you anything else from the public
057hang none um is there anything further from the board yeah uh just welcome back to yvonne um she's been doing meetings virtually uh while taking care of her sick dad and everything so it's nice to see you again you very much good to have you back it's nice to be seen yeah and ivan has been in constant contact with us and we know that you've gotten some challenges i wasn't going to say why you were out because i didn't know if you wanted folks to know what was going on but yeah thank you for all you do thank you for all you do anything else from anyone else great we don't have an access executive session going on today so our next board meeting will be on september the 28th at five o'clock here um
