001body. >> Oh, shoot. Okay. I call to order this regular meeting on May 26, 2026 of the Oberlin City Schools Board of Education. Please call the role. >> Miss Gatson >> here. >> Miss Anderson White >> here. >> Miss George >> here. >> Miss Garrett >> here. >> Miss Dagel >> here. I'll entertain a motion to adopt the agenda. >> So moved. Second. >> Do we have any changes? >> Yes, we do. Um under superintendent consetta items, item J, um we need to reduce the price to 37,800 instead of 42,270. >> Oh, yay. We love >> Excellent. We love it when it's left. >> We love seeing that. >> What was that price again, please? >> Uh 37,800. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. And if there are no other changes, uh, please call the

002role. >> Miss Anderson White? >> Yes. >> Miss Gadson? >> Yes. >> Miss George? Yes. >> Miss Garrick? >> Yes. >> Miss Stagel? >> Yes. >> Next, we have citizens concerns on agenda items. Did anyone sign up in the book? >> Nope. >> Okay. So, we will go ahead and move along. >> Okay. No, you're totally fine. Go ahead, sign in. >> And then if you can bring it up to me, that would be amazing. >> Yeah. Is it an item that's on the agenda? >> Okay. Then we actually have a separate session at the end where that's where you'll speak. >> Thank you. Okay. So then we will go ahead and move on to news of note and presentations. Dr. Hall. >> Yes, thank you. >> Tonight we have a couple presentations. Um the

003athletic end of the year wrap up. Our 80 is double booked tonight with a softball event that's going on um banquet forum. So we will not be able to do an um athletic end of the year wrapup. However, we have Oland High School end of year wrapup and also our new student board members as well um here tonight. And for the OS end of the year wrap up, I'm going to turn over to our administrative staff at Oakland High School to provide a nice um presentation for you. I have a slideshow clicker here for you. [clears throat] >> You'll need to turn the microphone on. >> Hello. Hello. >> Um, thank you for listening to our presentation. I'm actually going to welcome our new student board members up um for their first task as student

004board members to present the end of the year wrap-up for you guys. So, I want to welcome Josie Murray and Liam Stagel to present. [applause] >> Hi. Thank you both for coming. >> Thank you. and congratulations for um >> we appreciate >> representing our school district on our board. I'm really excited. I've wanted to have student representation on our board for a long time. So I'm so excited that Dr. Tomlin made it happen this year. >> Absolutely. All right. So first slide. What's new at OHS? So this year was the first year that seniors paid to to decorate their parking spots, which you can see in the bottom left, which added lots of color and creativity to the parking lot, which otherwise would not showcase much of our school's incredible diversity and personality. Uh the

005media club began with the OBW newsletter, which provided students with upcoming events, student spotlights, and athletic happenings. Students survived this year with a new government ban of cell phones in schools, which was causing much controversy. Uh, the cafeteria was however stocked with board games for students to play during lunch. We have a wonderful picture of Colby right there. I think the first person to get their phone taken this school year. [laughter] >> Um, the principal's advisory committee was developed and students were recruited to join of which I'm one of them. Uh, which whose discussions included building culture, curriculum in the school, what could be improved upon and what students enjoyed about their school experience. >> Excellent. Can I ask a question? >> Yes. >> Is that newsletter available to the public or is that student

006specific? >> Well, Josie is actually in charge of the newsletter, so I think she can speak on that. >> Um, so Dr. Tomlin emails it out bi-weekly to I believe the students and staff. >> I've also been including it as a link in my newsletters. So >> thank you. Okay, so we have some building updates this year. We got a new air conditioning installation in the band choir and multi-purpose room. So, especially in the summer, it's very helpful. And additionally, OS got a new PA system with emergency management capabilities for lockdowns, fires, or tornado drills. And also, the installation company repaired speakers throughout the building that couldn't previously hear announcements. So, we are great very grateful for these updates. Okay, we have two new clubs of note which are the ASL club led by Miss

007Baker and Sources of Strength led by Dr. Tomlin and Miss Stip. Uh the ASL club hosted several events in its first year. They gathered for Halloween, Friendsgiving, and Christmas. And they also made crafts together and honed their ASL skills. And the Sources of Strength Club was presented as an initiative by junior Sylvia Niski. Uh the club and national organization associated with it aims to prevent suicide by building resilience, coping skills and positive social connections. Uh students leaders part student leaders participated in a full day of training to provide support and learn to connect with their peers. And the sources of strength club completed their first campaign which focused on providing positive affirmations to students who are completing their state testing and teaching students about what sources of strength is. And the club will continue to

008meet and expand next year. environmental initiatives. One of our science teachers, Miss Pear, led the charge this year. She had a very busy year. Um, we were making great sustainability efforts around the building. Overberlin College students worked with our students to compost in the cafeteria at lunch. They've been doing that for most of the spring. And composting is great for our environment because it reduces waste in landfills. And we're showing that to the students. OHS collected plastic grocery bags for recycling and as a school we collected over a thousand bags and in collaboration with Legion Fields Community Gardens the sustainability club planted trees in the front lawn of the high school. >> Um a couple field notable field trips this year. Our students get the privilege of attending multiple field trips throughout the year and

009a special a few special ones this year were uh the ninth grade completing leadership credentiing with lean six which is a program that works to develop student skills of problem solving and teamwork and it also counts for an industry recognized credential towards graduation requirements. Uh the 10th grade students visit visited the Lraine County Career Expo and explored hands-on exhibi exhibits focusing on manufacturing, healthcare, IT, skilled trades, and STEM. And our 11th grade students attended JA inspired career exploration event where they explored a variety of career paths. >> Celebrations. We had a lot to celebrate this year. A few highlights are Mr. Russell celebrating his 20 thou two wo 200th career win with our boys basketball team. Senior Miss Grace Petsack was named a national merit finalist and the OS orchestra received a superior rating at

010OMA large group adjunct adjunctated event. >> All right, next are multiple honor society at the high school. Uh, the National Honors Society inducted 27 new juniors and seniors. The Spanish Honor Society inducted 17 new members in grades 10th through 12th. And the Triumph Honor Society inducted three new members, two of whom being incoming freshmen. Uh, and we want to say thank you to our sponsors for these organizations who are Miss Knock, Mrs. Hanland, Mrs. Fox, and Miss Cromwell. >> Student culture building. We had a lot of spirit weeks, theme nights, and field days. Students expressed wanting to get more school spirit and belonging this year. Um, from fall sports to spring sports, environmental club spirit week and Ron Buyer secret spirit week. Students get a did a great job participating. Senior Sapora Rodriguez in the

011picture on the left proposed bringing back field day this year. We had that a couple of weeks ago. She planned the whole event and it was a really good success. And our student section had a blast this season while celebrating our basketball team. And this included Mr. Russell's dressup night for his 200th career win, blackout, and a construction theme night. >> Next is our drama club who were very busy and had two amazing performances this year led by Mr. Austin Smith. Uh students performed the world according to Snoopy in January, which explored life through the eyes of Snoopy and showcased our students humor. And our spring performance was Mamma Mia, uh which was truly one to remember. From the set to the cast and crew, each student involved in the show was truly remarkable. >>

012And we look forward to a great 2026 to 2027 season at OHS. [applause] >> Thank you both so much. Does anybody have any questions? >> Well, congratulations and welcome. >> Thank you. >> Nice job. >> Great job. >> Good job, guys. other highlights. >> Thank you. Great job at high school as well. Thank you to our new um members as well. Great did a great job during the interview process and a great job during um talking to you. Had a great experience working with you. Um look forward to working with you next year. Thank you both of you. Next updates will include uh I would like to have a thank you to all who participated and attended the annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday um yesterday at Memorial Park. A special thank you to Orland

013city manager Mr. Hulcom um did a great job with the speech. Um OS student Jordan Levit who did a speech as well as part of his senior project. And we also had our guest speaker, United States Navy veteran Mr. Markeel Young was speaking as well. I'd like to thank Mr. Steve Johnson who's been doing this for several years for us and also our veteran ceremony as well. I'd like to thank you. Thank you for your support. It was actually a wonderful activity. Had about uh say a lot of participants there about 100 people attended as well. Um it was a great event last about an hour and we the rain held off. We're holding a groundbreaking celebration for the new middle school starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday, June the 4th. The groundbreaking ceremony is

014um upcoming um to show the middle new middle school coming up and we'll see more slides information about the middle school. The event will be featured by our guest our keynote speaker will be Mrs. Gloria Buckton um as well as several of our links to middle school students are everyone's welcome to attend that ceremony as well. That's um 5:00 pm Thursday, June 5th. I'm sorry, June 4th. We'll be holding our commemorative unveiling of a bench in honor and remembrance of our SRO Billy Needm at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8th at Safety Town. That's located on the campus of Overland Elementary School. We'll hold it right across the street here at Safety Town. Like to welcome our community members for as well. And it's to honor uh Billy Needam who has been SRO and also

015our safety town um officer providing information to our youth for the last several years and like to thank him and his family. His family will be in attendance that night or that day as well that morning. And finally, I'd like to tell the community um the district's um June 2026 magazine will be in mailboxes beginning the week of Monday, June the 22nd. We would like to remind our community members to um make sure you look at it. A lot of information about the new school year coming up will be in there and some updates as well. Next, we'll have our facilities update. We would like to um inform our community and also our board of what's going on with the construction project. um directly behind us a little bit and we have from TDA we

016have um Heather here to provide a presentation on um the new middle school. I'll ceue up the video. I don't know if you want to talk first or video. >> I just wanted to introduce myself. I know I've met a lot of you and I've you know we've working together a long time. My name is Heather Yellen. I'm with TDA Architects. We've been working together since 2024 and these are the fruits of our labor starting early in 2024 with programming to design. Now the building's in full-blown construction and this is essentially the fruits of our labor, the design, the walkthrough of the building so that um if you have any questions after I can answer and I guess you can cue that up. Okay. The >> video will also be available after the presentation here.

017We'll post it on our website and the community can actually see it as well. Hey. I love He's always Very impressive. >> So, do you have any questions, board members? >> I think I heard a question about the hallways. Can you Did you >> Yeah, she she had asked about what the the majority of the hallways were, and I can And can you just speak into the microphone so the people at home can hear you? Thank you. >> Sorry. The hallway widths vary depending on where you're coming in. They're about 13 feet wide coming down the main corridor. They go to 10 here, nine here. They're nine in certain other areas. And one thing to understand is there were strict parameters as far as square footage for building circulation. We didn't want to rob the

018hallway, you know, or have too much space in the hallway and not have classroom space because that's how tight things are. So, you know, we had certain requirements that to the square footage that we had to meet for each of the classrooms and the art room, music rooms, all the ancillary spaces, gymnasium. So, >> and I'm sure it's on here and I just can't see it. Where is the elevator? >> Elevator is right back here. >> Right there. >> I saw the elevators went higher. What? >> You see the elevator or >> Yeah. >> Did everyone else see the elevator? I would like to >> This is the only part of the building that's two story. So, it's this this right here. >> Yeah. >> Oh, and it didn't show the um the connector to

019the high school. >> No, we we were trying to kind of show the high spots. >> Yeah. >> That's more of a long corridor that will eventually be demoed when the high school's, you know, the new high school's built. >> Um it's temporary. And is that will that be like glass and it's open or it's going to be like a concrete? [clears throat] >> It's a it's a light gauge frame structure that has metal siding with punched openings. So 2 by two openings. Again, the whole idea was to provide the connector between the middle school and the high school. Uh but to do something economical because budget was definitely a factor. We were trying to make sure we could still incorporate that into the building because there was discussion a lot of the time about

020not even having a connector and having open air connector between, you know, a sidewalk that wouldn't be fun in the winter. >> Yeah, that was probably one of our most um expensive LFIs that we connected onto the building was having that connector >> and having the security was really important. having that enclosure with, you know, smaller windows that were more secure and lockable doors and instead of a gate with a fence with a sidewalk because that's literally what we were talking about with a tarp. >> Yeah. >> So, >> no. And I do really appreciate the effort you've gone through in the renderings to include some of the little bits of Langston that were like very noticeable and and really appreciated. There's a lot of love in this town for that building. >> There definitely

021is. We could definitely tell that through um I mean the beauty of the art. I mean that mosaic piece was so we were really happy to incorporate that. >> Yeah. And that is that something you you are just going to be able to move over or are you recreating it? >> Yeah, that's going to be relocated. >> That's that's fantastic. >> We picked a few items from Langston to move over like that as well. Um one of the most important things we're talked about was the O >> and having the correct O and the correct colors. No. Um so we wanted to make sure that we had that um outside of the building. You see the O out there and it's the correct no. We have 50 different O's going around, but we wanted to

022keep that from the older version of um Oberlin tradition to the newer one. >> We kept the classic from the elementary. >> Oh, we've got in the Toronto Correct. Right. >> Right. >> Well, I think it was beautiful. >> Oh, thank you. >> Very very impressed. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Yeah. And then I guess the only other thing, and I know this has been a continuous discussion, is >> parking. >> Yes. >> So, we'll have more parking than we currently have at Langston. >> Yes. >> That's not hard. >> Yes. That's not [laughter] to do. Um >> I have a site plan under that. And in fact, your third page is a site plan >> and that, you know, counts it. It shows the count of the parking. >> Oh, it does. It's got

023a count. >> We actually added additional parking as well. So you notice at the bottom there on the south side there's additional park overflow lot there >> because there are some nights that we will have like a high school basketball game and a middle school basketball game at the same time. >> Yeah, the design team really thought it was important they incorporated an overflow lot that's to the south of all that for sporting events so that it's still adjacent to the fields but you know offers that extra parking because every school runs into this where they don't have enough and >> and that's something Dr. Hall thought was very important to incorporate. But we have separate teacher parking. There's visitor parking to the south. And then to the east is a teacher and visitor depending

024on, you know, if there's sporting events and or kids that are coming and being left out after school or let out after school for sports, they can pick their kids up there close to the exit. >> And this is all additional parking, not including what will be added on once the high school's built. >> Correct. Yeah. the high school. There's a lot of different options with the high school and that's kind of in flux and to be determined, but the idea was that the new high school addition would go actually to the the the east of this facility. So, some of those things, some of that parking would maybe be relocated to a different location depending >> as parents will look at it too. You have they have three exit points and also entrance points

025to the um facility as well. You have the Pleasant Street with two um points of entrance and exit there as well. And you also will have park um so parents can go out either way. Um eventually as a new high school come on board, we like to um have a road through that industrial parkway. >> Oh, I had one other question. >> Um in the gymnasium, is what you've shown as the the seating >> what is actually going to be there? >> Yes. Yeah, it's it's a lower seating. It's so you don't have to have guard rails and handrails. A little bit easier to to get in and out of. >> How many people does that sit? >> That's 200. And then there's overflow beyond that for they purchased additional individual seats so that if

026there's more, you know, larger assemblies and that sort of thing, they have the seating for it. >> Do we know how many people sit at L? >> We fit at Langston now. >> Capacity for it. I don't know. >> Yeah, I know there's an additional 150 seats in addition to the 200. So you'd have 350. >> Yeah, >> it's well within the what you need >> student population. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Beautiful. >> That was all I had. Anybody else? >> No. Okay. >> Well, thank you so much for coming. >> Okay. Sure. Thank you. [clears throat] >> Anybody else question? >> All right. Our parents will uh we'll have that on our website as well. Um so parents have access to it and we also have on our website. parents do have access

027to monitor u the progress of the site currently now if they wish to see it camera running 24 hours a day out there as well um currently you see out there now is the gym being built so I already had parents come by and say well what's that right there why they start in the middle and it's a gym actually going up so the structure they see now is a gym being constructed >> great any questions regarding facilities I'm not sure if Mrola had thing as well. Okay. Um, great job. I think it's well done and I think parents going to be really um happy with what we have and um turned out to be a beautiful building. Still have to make sure within budget, right? [laughter] >> Oh yes. >> Okay, that concludes my

028report. >> Excellent. So then we are going to go ahead and move on to action items. We've got board items A through >> just A. Just A. >> Oh, just A. A is separate. >> Yep. Oh, >> yeah. Can I get a motion to approve item A, which is approval of the regular meeting minutes from our April 28th meeting? >> So moved. >> Second. >> It has been moved and seconded. Are there any changes? >> Go ahead and call the role. Miss Anderson White, yes. Miss Gadson, yep. Miss George, yes. >> Miss Garrett, yes. >> Miss Dagel, >> yes. And then we will move on to B, which is approval of the resolution de declaring it necessary to raise annually 2,486,140 for school district purposes, requesting the Ohio Tax Commissioner to certify the estimated rates

029at which it would be necessary to levy an addium property tax and a school district income tax on the school district income of individuals to produce that amount. which is what we currently use as our operating costs. >> Yeah, this is the um 75 income tax that has to be renewed every five years. Um and this is the first resolution. We'll do the second resolution in June so that it can be on the November's ballot. >> So for clarification, this is not an increase to what we're already doing. >> Correct. This is just a renewal. >> It's okay. >> Oh, but can I get that moved and seconded? Oh. Uh, moved. >> Second. >> Thank you. Do we have any other questions? >> No. >> So, this is a renewal and this will be on

030the November ballot. >> Correct. >> Okay. No other questions. Go ahead and call the role. >> Miss Anderson White? >> Yes. >> Miss Gadson? >> Yes. >> Miss George? >> Yes. >> Miss Garrett? >> Yes. >> Miss Stagel? >> Yes. And now I will entertain a motion for board item C which is the existing 1.3 tax levy um for technology >> second. >> Excellent. It has been moved and seconded. >> Again for clarification this is not additional money. It is money. >> Correct. This is the 2012. This is the renewal of the 2012 levy when it was first put put on the ballot. And every five years we have to renew it. [clears throat] >> And this is what pays for all of the technology we use in the district. So, >> well, most of

031it. >> Well, [laughter] >> it doesn't cover it all anymore. doesn't cover it all, but that varies from um computers that the kids use to the software that the teachers use um to the software that the board uses for all of our um updates. >> Yep. >> Uh do we have any other questions about that one? Go ahead and call a roll. >> Miss Anderson White? >> Yes. >> Miss Gadson? >> Yes. >> Miss George? >> Yes. >> Miss Garrett? >> Yes. >> Miss Dagel? >> Yes. That was easy. Now we'll go ahead and move on to treasurers items. I will entertain a motion to approve treasurer items A through D. >> So moved. Second. >> It has been moved and seconded. Bob. >> Okay. We've got the treasurer's report. So we ended the month

032of April with 49 million 5557,41062. Um, we had outstanding warrants of $14,024.33. And if you notice on the petty cash, the athletic department, since we don't have any more, um, they don't need their change fund anymore. So, that's reduced from $1,700 down to$200. And that petty cash is what's in the board office. And also, the cafeteria is petty cash was returned. We fund the um Coke machines with $83 at the beginning of each school year. So that will they'll pick up that money in August when they re restock the Coke machines when the teachers come back because now you got to watch expiration dates on Coke bottles. Used to be you didn't know how old that pop was, but >> now you have to watch it and pull it out if it's expired. >> Do

033we keep those stocked for the summer events that go on? No. No. Nope. Because they only the pop that we get usually has a three month supply of expiration date. So it's really hard to stock it over the summer. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> We don't order enough to make it useable. So whatever they they push to us the bad stuff, I guess. And then we also had a payroll transfer of 39,91573 that was in transit. So that's why that's on there and we balanced to the penny. Um, as for the five-year forecast report on the general fund, um, we so far today brought in a little over $400,000 more than last year except for the advance because since we paid off the notes last year, um, we didn't have to advance money last year.

034So that that's the only thing that's from payroll again is running about $400,000 higher which we already projected that. So we're running pretty much status quo on everywhere where we thought we'd be at the current time. Year to date so far in the general fund we have spent um 17,556,479. So, >> and what percentage is that of the year that we've spent? >> Uh, our appropriations when we get to that will be 22 million. So, we're we're well under, but we are also spending a lot on construction that we didn't spend last year. We just paid $900,000 for construction. Some of that was out of the 070 fund and some of that was out of the building project fund, but that's all encumbered in this. So, but yes, we are moving forward. We're starting to

035get some big bills. [laughter] The bank is not happy with us right now. I didn't give them enough warning. So, um all funds really there's nothing. We will be adjusting appropriations next um because I didn't think that we would have GMP3 done. Um and thought that it would be encumbered next next fiscal year. So since that is encumbered um I had to adjust appropriations. But with all funds, it does show that we're starting to spend out of um phase two nexus funds and we're also starting to spend out of the bond levy fund and the building I mean the building fund. So year to date so far we've spent not counting this month. This month it was closer to a half a million but year to date it was a half a million in the

036building fund and only 192,000 from the nexus fund. But [clears throat] the nexus fund had a $392,000 bill that we just spent paid today and then the other fund has five 598,000 for this month. So we are starting to spend will be close to a million, a little bit over a million dollars each month from here going forward with the construction project to bring us to the nice total of $31 million. [laughter] As for appropriations, um we are adjusting our revenues and we're also adjusting our um [snorts] appropriations. So resources, we took our resources from 89,622 down to 67,415,000 and change. Um we changed our appropriations from 33,452,000 to 53,85,250. Um, normally we do this in in June, but I decided to do it in May since we've already passed the GM1.3 and I needed

037to be able to pay off of it. So, I need the board to approve it. >> Okay. >> Um, and I'll take care of filing this with the county auditor and we should be good to go for the end of the year. It is broken down by fund. If you have any questions on those, that was provided for you. Also, next on my agenda, we have the SRSA. Um, it came in at a 1.023 increase for our property fleet and liability. Um, so that bill was n we're this is for the 2026 27 if you approve it for 94,136 and again that increase was about one point a little over 1.2%. >> Which is not bad. >> Not bad. We had districts in our consortium. We did increase our consortium last year from 157 school

038districts to 187. But yeah, we had districts that saw over 10% increase. So, >> and that's because their property values, they one school missed an entire building. So, I don't know how you do that, but >> I'm glad we're not there. >> What? >> And they're still asking us to get Eastwood off the books. So, [laughter] I let them know that it'll probably be August or September now instead of I told them before that hopefully by now we would have been rid of it, but it is still there. Um, we did have donations. OA gave $400 to prom. Um, ItalianAmerican veterans gave $4,000 for staff o opening day t-shirts and we had an anonymous donation of $1,500 for yearbook and art club for of camera lenses and supplies for yearbook and arts the high school

039art department to use. So >> excellent. >> That's all I have. Mr. President, >> do we have any questions, comments? I just want to always like to say a special extra thank you to everyone who made donations. Um I know we we list them at every meeting, but those those donations really make it extra special for our students. Um so having no questions or comments, please call the role. >> Miss Anderson White, >> yes. >> Miss Gatson, >> yes. >> Miss George, >> yes. >> Miss Garrett, >> yes. >> Miss Stagel, >> yes. Next, we will move on to superintendent consent items A through >> R six. >> Can I get a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> Second. >> It has been moved and seconded, Dr. Hall. [clears throat] >> Thank you. Item

040A is um approving a list of our excellent 72 high school seniors graduating. Um would like to announce that we do have potentially all of our students graduating. I don't want to tell them yet because they may stop today after I say something. Um but we should have all of our seniors graduating. >> And when is the senior's last day? >> Seniors Senior's last day. They were last on um last week. >> Perfect. Mhm. >> Oh, well, you tell me when was it? Are you still I want to cover for you. So, [laughter] um item A was uh was approving that. So, the board will have to approve that. And our graduation ceremony is this Saturday at Finny as well. Item B, approval OPCOU for the reorganization of administrative assistant position 2627 school year. Um

041item B is aou that we work with OC union um involving our sub services um position and also administrative assistant at OES um and also our athletic um secretary as well. So we worked out ofou last year um to kind of um combine and remove those position move those positions around a little bit just continue that until the 26 27th school year. >> So it will be continue the scene. >> Yes. extra. Yes. >> Then we'll make it part of the contract. >> Yes. And we're going to negotiations. So, we're looking at doing um if it works if it's working out, we analyze it and look at it. Item C is approval of the resolution adopt the NIST cyber security framework for version 2.0. Um as Janet may know, this is another compliance um from

042House Bill 96. So, these are compliance um things that we have to do for our district. Item D is approval of the 2627 school-based mental health services agreement which is Joseph Januzi Counseling. Um Januzi Counseling provide um services for a lot of our students. Um unique about them is they have worked with Oberlin um this year and they also set up an office in Overland because they like work with our students and our families. So they um already start setting roots up in Overland to work with our families. Item E is approval of the 2627 Lraine County Board of DD preschool agreement. We have some students attending um Lraine County Board of DD. Item F is the EA um services. Um we have students attending EA as well. Item G is mental health addiction recovery

043to Mars board. This allows MARA board um provides services for our students and families as well. It's a collaboration with um the Mars board is collaboration of several different agencies that's together um United like Belfare, Lacata and other agencies. Item H is 2627 the PSI associates um psych psych services agreement provide support um for our students. Item I, item J, and item K are actually curricular items. These are um curriculum items that we already have in our district, but we're renewing them because they have um technology. Some are upgrading um for us um our teachers are using it and um doing well. So, you see item I, J, and K are actually um renewals for three-year agreements with CKLA. This goes with the science and reading and um compliance with our um the reading program

044for the state. >> And this is the curriculum that the teachers have been using. But this was their year to review and they decided to stay with the same curriculum just get the updated version next year. >> Next three years. >> Three years. >> When our cycle comes, reevaluate it again for them. Okay. Item L is the Tinder loving care transportation company. Um this another company we're trying to see if um they're able to help us assist with our transportation issues. If we're short a driver um we'll be able to utilize this company as well. Item M is approval of the 2627 special education model policies procedures resolution. Um this is a resolution that we have to do every year for the due um department of education and workforce. It's u mandated to us as

045well. They made some revisions to the model policies um and we have to approve them every year. Item N is North Coast Interpreting Services. O isou for the boys and girls club northeast Ohio. Um boys and girls club will offer some after school programming for our six to eight middle school students as well. It's not competing with our um city program because city programs go younger. Um boys club at one time when I first arrived in the district was involved in the district. They're trying to build roots up back into the district. Um a target area that we try to focus on for them. We told them um because we had the playground group and the city group handling the um prek to or the K to five group. So if they would target a

04668th programming that would help the district out. So it's a trial period for them to look and see and we'll start talking to them about more things they can do throughout the school year in the fall. Item 2627 is hi translation services. Item Q is the first reading of attendance policies. Um the state revised their attendance policy um for districts as well. There'll be more information coming out to our community um regarding the new attendance policy um in the fall as well. Basically, it's telling our parents um it's involving the policy involves more assistance from the court and also u more stricter guidelines on what excused and what's not excused. Um pretty much if a student's out of school, it's unexcused um for medical issues or whatever. um we would have to go through a

047process with them. So pretty much the state is saying um limiting on what is excused and what's not excused for our parents. Um and we'll work with our parents on those issues as well. Okay. Um item R is personnel report. We have a few resignations. Item R2 is employment recommendations. I'd like to welcome our new employees coming on board. We have some new custodians coming on board and also our new intervention specialists that was hired that'll be coming into going into our um middle school and we also are working on interviews currently now um for other positions that are open. Three is leave absences. Four is um our varsity softball um resending some of our her varsity softball um duties for the middle school which um later you'll probably see her on for a different

048supplemental. Item five temporary one-year contracts which as well and six is stipens supplementals. few supplementals we have. We have a few of our summer school instructors on there as well. The district will offer summer school for our students this summer um for K to8 and we will offer um recovery pieces for our high school students. As always, we also offer um summer school for our third grade students as well um to provide support for them to um retest for the third grade um proficiency exam. And we also offer kinder campus again and that's one of our big sellers for our students and thank you for their support for that. Request approval for item A through R six from the board. >> There was a lot. Does anybody have any questions? >> Sorry. >> Well, I

049think we are all set. We can go ahead and call the RO. >> Miss Anderson White. >> Yes. >> Miss Gatson? >> Yes. >> Miss George? >> Yes. >> Miss Garrett? >> Yes. >> Miss Stagel? >> Yes. >> Okay. So now we will move on to committee updates. >> Um I have one um I attended the uh OSBA leadership conference uh May 6 uh May May 8 and 9. Um and I just have a quick uh synopsis of what went on what I attended at that that um conference. So um [clears throat] the the uh the first session was with David Kappa uh who is a comedian and he used to be a teacher and his uh his theme of his talk was joyful people are more productive. So, um, one of the points that

050he made was that 65% of people don't get thanked for what they do. And when I heard that, I thought, okay, so we have a week of teacher appreciation, which of course we appreciate our teachers. We have a week of appreciation for our uh, classified staff. Um but um I would like to formally on behalf of the board thank Bob Reinhardt and Dr. Hall for everything they do. Um, I am on a monthly phone call to set the jo board agenda. And I want you to know that I am astonished at the number of things these two men have to juggle all the time. And I would like to suggest that we give them an ovation. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Thank you. Did you find my slides? You don't get a voice ovation yet

051because technology is killing me. [laughter] >> Okay. >> That was not from the the conference. >> I [laughter] did not take you skydiving. >> No. Well, actually that's how I broke my leg. No, [laughter] >> just kidding. We need Steve to help Superba leadership. This tires. There we go. >> Thank you. >> Oh, here we go. Joyful people are more productive as you can see from the slide. I'm not going to read every slide. I'm just going to put it up there for you to digest. >> Um slides. You have a slideshow. >> Uh just there's only eight slides. So, uh if you just uh put them up one at a time. Um okay. So, this one was a session on um HB455, which is an omnibus uh bill that's heading to the Senate right

052now. Um there there is some decent stuff in there for us and uh we would really like the um the House to keep I mean the Senate to keep this language uh and not muck it up. Um it's loosening up a little bit uh and giving us back just a just a monocum of home rule which would be great. Um okay you can go on to the next one. Okay. This one was a session on House Bill 486 which is the Charlie Kirk American Heritage Bill. I would encourage everyone to call your representatives, please, and tell them to kill this. Uh, okay, we can go on to the next one. The next one was about House Bill 161. It's regarding vaccines. Um it's uh actually loosening the um requirements for vaccines, which would be bad

053for public education because there would be more kids that don't have all of their vaccines uh putting everyone in the room at risk. And so again, please call your reps and tell them to uh kill this Um the next session that I attended was on policy. Um and basically it um says that policy is driven by state law which we knew. Um and all of our policies are supposed to be renewed every 3 to five years. You can go on to the next one. The next session that I attended was on leveraging shared resources uh to foster sustainable community partnerships. Um, I honestly believe that our uh that that we're doing everything that we should do. You know, when I heard what they were doing and I thought, well, we we partner with uh city

054council, commun uh Oberlin College, community services, LC. Um, we probably could do a little bit more with Kendall because we do have friends at Kendall who are supporting public education. Um, but I think we're pretty much on on track with with that. So, we can go on to the next one. The next session was leading together uh effective board relationships. And uh honestly what I heard a lot during the two-day conference was people who are struggling with boards that are in a lot of conflict. And I would like to thank my sisters on this board for how harmonious we are and say that you know we are very fortunate in Oberlin that we have such a a board that works so well together. Thank you to all of you. >> Thank you, Janet. >> Thank

055you. >> Um and next slide. Um uh actually I didn't have a that one was not about this but uh I went to one on school law and it said um I I again I didn't really learn anything because I feel like we're doing a really good job of following the procedures and the laws. But I did want to remind everyone on the board that we need to remember not to reply to texts and emails because uh those are just information sharing and we don't want to get ourselves into trouble. So just a quick reminder about that. And the last session that I went to was on bridging the divide between party lines. And again uh you did did you okay you showed the last one. Um I just was so grateful that we are

056not having to do that here. Um and the finally I want to say that um we have been invited to uh Kendall on uh June 8th. They're having um a speaker from Vouchers Hurt Ohio Education. Um the lawsuit that we are a part of has moved on from our win to uh the appeals court. It's being heard by a three judge panel at the state level. And uh it's not going well for our opponents because uh the Ohio Constitution is pretty clear about public education and the fact that the money is supposed to be going to support common schools for all children, not private schools. So it's not going well for them. So that wraps up my presentation. Thank you. >> What time [clears throat] is that meeting? >> Well done. >> What time is

057it? >> Oh, I'm sorry. It's uh at 7:15 to to 8:15 on uh June 8th. >> And I think I sent everyone a I sent everyone a calendar invite for that event. >> Thank you, Janet. That was >> She got some great information. Glad I'm glad you could make it to that. I couldn't make it to that one. Uh, >> that was really helpful. >> It's It's very They're very useful. >> Yeah, >> the OSBA is a great resource for the board. >> Does anybody else have a an update? >> Um, I have a quick endowment update. We reviewed the applications. Um there were 12 applicants for the start of next year for the um 2627 academic year and the decisions will go out in the next three weeks or so. >> Great. So if

058you applied for a grant, check your email after school. [laughter] Um great. Technology didn't meet. Policy did didn't meet. Was there there probably hasn't been a town was there a town and gown meeting? >> Yeah, we met briefly with um um Mr. Hulcom and also Mr. Herz as well from the college. Um not a lot to update. We just talked to discuss the um summer and we also discuss um um graduation and also make sure we have enough parking on both sides and also um trying to coordinate another um state of the state of um overland address as well. Great. >> So that was very very beneficial from all three entities getting together. So that's something on our agenda. Um so it was uh pretty well done and uh productive meeting and we talked about

059the construction projects and um things going on within the city and also our projects as well. Um and I think committee is doing well and thank you for everybody work on and I appreciate it. Thanks. >> Great. And then I did not get a JVS update from u Miss Sham but um Dr. Hall and I and Miss Augustine and Dr. Tomlin um got to go to JVS graduation last Monday and was really fantastic. Our kids all did such a great job and and it's so nice to see them going out and and finding something to do that they're really passionate about. Um so that was a really wonderful really wonderful program. >> Um >> the next finance and audit meeting is um June 9th at 400 pm at the board office. So, we are always

060welcome to take members from the community that would like to come and learn about school finance. >> Um, and I think that's it. So, now we will move on to hearing of the public on other items. So, if you can just come on up to the microphone. >> Hi everyone. How are you? Hello. >> Hi. So, so how this works, if you can state your name, um your relationship to the school district, you have three minutes to talk about whatever it is that you want. We generally don't comment back to you tonight, but we'll take what you say and um you give you an update at the next board meeting. >> That sounds great. >> Okay. Well, uh first of all, in keeping with your update, Miss Garrett, thank you guys for what you do.

061Um, I'm a proud parent of three students here enrolled in this building at OES and they're all having a wonderful time here. Um, in addition to that, I am a parent leader for the Oberlin Cub Scout group and we have about 30 students um, uh, 20 of which roughly are enrolled in OES and uh, we provide a great extracurricular community, the service, allowing um, a space for students to learn outside of the classroom. Um, and Oberlin has a long tradition of cub scouts and scout related activities. Um, I guess my purpose here tonight is to really initiate a conversation about um, partnering more with OES um, through that organization. One way that could manifest is um, we're currently hosting our meetings at First United Methodist on on Professor Street and that's great, but there are

062key resources that they don't have in that building. like for example, if the kids want a space to run around in the wintertime, there's really not that opportunity there. So, being able to access um Oberlin Elementary or or other buildings um after hours would be an incredible resource for that organization. So, that's that's one item to um to put on your consideration. And um the the second thing is that we're interested in building community in general. And so any other opportunity that we have for either the Cub Scouts or now the newly reinitiated scouts level troop level um students. We also have um eight students that are now our newly reinitiated scouts level. So this is what you think of traditional boy scouts with the the you know beige shirts. Um it's now scouts. So

063it's more open to um it's more inclusive. And um that troop really got off the ground. My wife is the assistant scout master for that and she just her and one other community member launched it just this year. So um and any opportunity for that group or the Cub Scouts to volunteer at OES related events um or any other community building activities that we could be involved in I think would be something we would all really be excited about. >> So do I understand you correctly that it's now scouts which means girls and boys together? >> That's correct. And we have girls enrolled in the program currently. Yeah. >> Can you re Did you I'm not sure if I heard you mention the time and days that you meet. >> That's a great question. I

064also don't think I said my name, too. So, I'm I'm Chris Howard is my name. >> Yep. I've been in Oberlin for 10 years now and I'm I'm It's a wonderful community. I'm very happy to be here. Um but we are currently meeting at um Thursday afternoons or or evenings. 6:00 is when the Cub Scouts meet and the the scouts are currently meeting at 7 o'clock immediately after that. We're also following up with Greg Hulcom about maybe um getting us over to uh the Prospect Building as well because that's another great that would be a great resource for us. But when I was a scout, I grew up in scouts. I'm an Eagle Scout myself and um we we partnered with the high school and it was a really logical good fit for that program.

065So I I see something like that as a potential possibility here. You actually have two Eagle Scouts at the high school right now that are working on their their projects that are projects they're doing in conjunction with the school district. So, >> I think I know one of them. I think I live next door to one of them actually. Yep. I think I even donated to it to be totally honest. >> Excellent. >> Cool. >> Yeah. So, um Amherst has been the the resource for a lot of the scouts people for the last few years, but we're really trying to get that that program built up again here in Oberlin. >> Great. Well, thank you so much. >> Yep. Thank you all for your time. >> Question. >> Yeah, please. So, you want to do

066some volunteering at the schools. Would you consider volunteering at any other community groups? >> Absolutely. Yeah. Well, and I don't want to volunteer myself. I want to provide volunteer opportunities for the scouts. Yeah. >> Okay. What ages are we talking? >> So, that's a great question, too. Cub Scouts is um kindergarten all the way to fifth grade. So, really represented by the the population in this building. Um scouts will will be the next generations beyond that. So, um sixth grade through through um through high school. >> But absolutely any any opportunities that you want to um utilize to build community in that way, we'd be very excited to do. >> What age ranges do you are you working with right now in your K I mean in your your your scouts and your Cub Scouts?

067>> Great question. So, the the the Cub Scouts group really spans the whole spectrum of every possible age group. We have kindergarteners. We also have what we call dragon scouts. Um and they're the kids that get dragged in, the younger siblings. Um and and so we actually, [laughter] you know, it fits because it's then it goes to animals after that is the different levels. But um so so even before kindergarten, but then kindergarten all the way to fifth grade, we have representation across the entire spectrum there. Um now the scouts group is a little bit not quite as it's brand new. And so the issue there is we just had students um sort of metriculate through the Cub Scout program and they're the first generation of Oberlin now scout troop level. So we don't have

068older um scouts but we're actively recruiting and that would be another opportunity for if you guys are interested in helping us recruit students that are currently here that are maybe thinking about it. They don't want to have to go to Amherst to to be involved in a troop. This would be a great opportunity for them to give back to the community, too. We usually um at open houses in the fall, we usually provide tables. So, if you would like to get a table at the open house, you could talk to the principles at those buildings and that might help you recruit some kids. >> That'd be great. I think we've been there in the past, too. >> Say we've done it in the past. And thank you guys for helping with Memorial Days, too, as

069well. Also, Veterans Day as well. Great turnout and appreciate you guys support. Again, I'm I'm just here to represent the We You got to thank the troop and not me. The scouts are the ones that did the work, right? Yeah. But that was excellent job. It was an incredible ceremony. It was very powerful. So, thank you for your involvement in that, too. It was great. >> Great. Well, thank you so much. >> Okay. How do I follow up now? >> Um, so for you specifically, um, you're going to want to follow up. Do do you know Miss Weber? >> Yeah. [laughter] Yeah. So, so Miss Weber is going to be the one who can answer most of your questions. >> Okay. >> Um because she's in charge of this building. >> Great. >> Um and

070then yeah, as far as recruitment, you know, if you want to come to the different building, you know, everyone has a different open house. Um so if you want to find out about that, you can contact the principles for each building. >> That'd be fantastic. Okay. Thanks. >> If you want to set up um time in a building and things, talk about those things, probably want you want to talk to the director of operations. So >> Okay. And who might that be? >> That's me, too. >> That's you. Okay, great. All right, very good. >> Good director. >> Well, I'll follow up then. >> All right. Thank you again, guys. >> Thank you, Chris. >> Thank you very much. >> Okay. So, now we're going to move on to future meetings. So, we've got a

071meeting on June 23. Um, that's here at this building at six o'clock, our regular time. We have no meeting in July. And then we will have our August 25th regular meeting 6 pm also here at the elementary school. >> And now I will entertain a motion to adjurnn. >> Go ahead session. >> We don't need to. >> Oh, okay. Uh moved. >> Second. >> I don't have to do anything else to skip those, right? Always double checking the rules. Um it has been moved and seconded. Please call the rules. >> Miss Anderson White. >> Yes. >> Miss Gadson, >> yes. Miss George, yes. Miss Garrett, yes.
