002provide an update to the community and also to the board um I can have a staffing update to the board and also Community currently right now we are fully staffed on teachers I'm teaching positions in the district we also in evaluating some other things within the district which may cause some other positions opening up uh some support positions opening up depending on student population class size so we'll evaluating things throughout this week here Staffing we also need always bus drivers monitors paraprofessionals cleaners custodians so we do have them posted online currently right now so if anybody out there is interested in applying please look online and we're glad to set up an interview with you and we'll probably have another Workshop here soon the next couple months this employment Workshop homecoming 2023 like to announce
003the homecoming football game will be held at 7 30 pm on Friday September 29th against Black River the class of 1993 with the supporter Overland schools Alumni Association will host a taste of Oberlin from 5 to 6 30 PM before the game and Nelson Athletics complex for a five dollar donation guests will enjoy delectable bite-sized selections from local restaurants and food trucks the homecoming dance will be held the evening of Saturday September 30th for our high school students we also also like to announce our fall drama club performance they have selected performance already congrats to the cast of 12 Angry jurors the show will be held November the 2nd 3rd and 4th at 7 pm in OHS Auditorium more details will be coming I'd like to publicly thank Overland Heritage Center Overland College the JB
004Thomas fund from the Lorraine County Community Foundation Apollo Theater and Miss Harriet Thomas for their assistance in allowing our students to view a higher law the Overland Wellington Rescue of 1858 last week the documentary shows that Oberlin was what was over and like and how the city itself became involved in the Abolitionist Movement there'll be a public public screening of a documentary documentary at 7 pm on Thursday October the 5th inside Urban High School auditorium concludes my report so we don't have yes I was going to move on to that I'll do a facilities update for Mr rival so for our facilities we have we have bus count week is next week so like to encourage all our bus riders to ride the bus next week more information will be coming out um funding is
005based upon the number of students riding the bus so if you are eligible to ride the bus please ride the bus for the week and we'll take account at the end of the week and usually do the averages and we have to turn them to the state for funding like to also announce our roofing project at the high school is complete we have sections one two three and five already done and we're right now trying to plan for section four to be done Langston carpet has been completed at the library area and looks good and we also have some painting activities going on throughout the district some of our community members may see a lot of new um classrooms being painted outside the front and the state go outside the front we took care of
006it it's all painted out there nice and nicely done and we also worked on a gym um those who went in a gym the OB what is removed but it's coming back so I didn't watch the community think they took it all off but it's going to be back um paint it there so our painters right now do putting a new code over that as well and we'll be at the new stamp will be what also you notice an agenda as well we will be purchasing a new van for the district so I'm just be our second van for districts tonight Pastor van and the reason why we purchased a van um because the license relationship requirement is a little different and also help our athletic teams nine Pastor Advanced so it'll be our second
007van so our athletic teams can carry about now 18 students or so if needed the new van will have four car seats on there as well because we are able to carry um to um to transport preschool students as well some of them need car seats includes our operational report Jen now is that the last one or are there more uh no the one two three and five zones are done um Zone number four have not been done so is that the section that we could not get the warranty on yes yes we're currently right now going to probably try and look at our finances and see if we can work on that section and that's the so then that is the last one yes everything except the gym yes okay the gym is its

009been properly moved and seconded um Bob sure we have um the month of August we ended the month with 20 million 159 341.36 we had an adjustment for payroll because we paid on the first of the month so we had to have money transferred over a four hundred twenty six thousand three hundred ten dollars and thirty five cents and outstanding checks of twenty one thousand four hundred sixty six dollars and sixty five cents interest for the month was sixty two thousand five hundred twelve dollars and fifty two cents bringing a total to a hundred and two thousand 225 21 for the first two months of the here so we we do have a lot of our long-term Investments now invested out at four to five percent we're still have have Investments that were already on
010the books um I think our average portfolio now is up to 2.96 for long-term Investments so um for the general fund report um our revenues are pretty much in line we are up 22 percent over last year in August um are for July and August and then our expenses are pretty much even we're up point five nine percent nothing's really outstanding and I mean our cash Reserve we did move all the Nexus to 070 so that's in its own fund now and then for all funds um the only outstanding purchase order now in the building fund is for the architect that we hired to do our phase two and so that's really all that's outstanding there we did receive finally we Steve and I jumped through all the hoops and we got our 22 500
011for the car charging station so that will be added in this month into that fund so we will have income into that fund for next month but it was a long drawn out process but we made it thank you guys for your patience on that getting that through um really other than that there's nothing outstanding that report that jumps out um and then the last item we have is to advance the second half puku funds for nexus's general fund payment of 327 258.80 from the general front into the capital Improvement fund of 070. we'll do this twice a year now I'll recede them into the general fund and then we'll transfer them as long as you guys decide to continue to put the Nexus money away for phase two or three of the project and

013it's been properly moved and seconded Dr Hall okay I am a AES approval to 2324 sign language interpreters um of Cleveland they provide services and support for our students and staff as well Item B is LL therapy agreement they provide otpt and behavioral speech Behavioral Services and speech services for our students last year for the first time should be on air um and cards item C is Nova Care that's our trainer for athletics we sign a 23-24 agreement with them for this year they'll do a fall winter and spring Sports item D it's the mou for 23-24 at our sites program they provide support for our Spanish program at the elementary level I'd like to thank Oberlin College for that support and also um Dr Kim Farber as well I am sorry to go back
014I had a question about no but okay um no maybe it's the lla on there somewhere it says something about director of school special education is that that's Google services director yes same thing and that's just their standard language yeah okay because I was like we don't have that [Laughter] so the Nova Care contract I know we had to like do an amendment to that last year and now it says it's a restated contract from what I thought was the first one do you know why we had to restate it rather than just doing a new contract last year I'd say I believe it for the red on there it was um last year's contract was just for that brief part of the year and then this contract right here is actually for 23 24.
015it looks funny on a contract because it says last year but it's really not last year just completed last year because we had trouble finding a trainer and I believe they completed out the rest of the Year this continuation of it but it's really not it's actually a new contract continuation of part of last year to this year well yeah I mean the reason why it has the way I'm reading it there is last year's date on it is because they restated it meaning they just adjusted the contract to include the rest of this entire school year yes okay got it and we think we're going to stay with this company for a while it sounds like it yeah they seem to be I haven't heard anything from Grace negatively towards them or from any
016of the students okay and then I had a question about the promotional items good like that I don't know I don't know specific things that they're asking for of us in terms of like putting them on our website advertising our newsletters having you know advertisements and like flyers and things up around the school have we started working on that or do we have somebody designated to do that did we ask any questions about it I just kind of want to know what's that going to look like on our from our end Melissa is when I started working with on that end far as any flyers or anything like that with them that's my knowledge we have not done a a large amount of advertising for them so sometimes they may have a banner at the
017games or something like that but we have not done large advertising for them in our guess we have to talk to him find out what exactly is the minimum they want to do right okay yeah because it was kind of a lot yes I don't believe in high school you've seen any much anything at the high school with it which they have not really said hey we want you guys to advertise everything okay and I've been at several games and I'm talk to them and worked with a trainer especially the soccer games top notch great a person came over and talked to me and had an incident there this is why we do this this is why we do those pieces these pieces they've been phenomenal at helping okay all right I mean it's approve
018of the purchase of the van the night Pastor van um to four car seat you'll have four car seats in there for transportation f is approved as second reading adoption of the following audit policies these are the policies our policy Review Committee took charge of the last batch of policies that we took charge of looking into and for the audit piece and there'll be more coming and like to appreciate our audit Committee of working hard on these it's a second reading Forum I believe these a lot of these policies here are dealing with the vision and goals of the district so I'm not sure the board went to um are those members on a committee would like to say anything about these policies that sticks out the ones we just did last week right which
019was just an update not continuing to work on our revision of the entire policy manual more meetings coming [Laughter] more quality time in Eola I am G's Personnel report we have some resignations um I'd like to Ada cologne has been phenomenal as custodian with us and she's been working at a couple other buildings and Company resignations here I'd like to wish him the best of luck and hopefully they'll come back and sub for us G2 is gone moving to positions that's based on their to many more certifications and moving up item three is leave absence four is employment have a couple cafeteria helpers coming in substitute teachers paraprofessionals so we are filling summative positions but as always stated on board or in community members we would like apply please because we still have open positions
020available and item five our supplemental contract for football coaches so request an approval item a through G5 from the board any other questions or discussion hearing none please call the roll Mr Stanley yes Miss Gadson yes Dale yes Miss America yes okay so now we're moving on to board updates um does anyone have an update for any of these committees for which you are asked me to talk about what's going on in Columbus right now they are still working out um trying to develop what the new Department of Education will look like there is talk that lawsuits will be forthcoming trying to strip the power of um the Board of Education also there have reinstituted um the last two years they've had Homestead for um disability veterans to add them to the homestead list but
021that hasn't passed but that's been brought up again um and other than that there's really not too much in action they did bring up raising strs for the employer side to 18 that's been brought up the last year just because they're trying to fund that the strs more with less teachers working there's less money coming in for more people being retired so and that's that would be a four point of um four percent jump in our salary expenses if that does go through so you're looking at four four percent added on to all the strs employees so it'd be phased in a half percent for the next eight years but that's really the major things going on in Columbus right now Nexus is um coming up the end of the month they will um end
022of October they'll hear statements from the auditor and the State Tax Commission and then they'll decide from them there where it goes so that's all I have for and the endowment board met last week the week before um and currently applications are open that closes this Friday at midnight so if any teachers or staff or community members are working on applications make sure you get those in because the endowment board does not take late applications and then there will be another round in the spring for for more grants the student Phoenix Grant I'm actually not sure when that ends that's open I think two weeks longer yeah I'm thinking it's October 15th or 16th yeah everybody else technology we already gave our policy update inadvertently but that's what it was uh Finance at the finance
023committee meet we met right before the last meeting didn't we get right after the last meeting um we went over the five-year forecast I'm still waiting on um income tax which will come in the end of October and then once I get that in and see where those Trends are going then I can finish up the five-year forecast but everything else in there is pretty much cut up because we already had all the final payments in for the second half so and then what about JVS what does she provide a little I thought she did yeah I can read it real quick I think I've got it here I have it here our facilities committee is putting together an update updated packet package of projects to see what we can afford to do now and
024what will require Levy which would likely happen next fall depending on the quotes and eventually board recommendation and JVS homecoming celebration is October 21st from 11 to 2. featuring all kinds of fun activities for the families yeah she did download a nice little picture of JVS different um what jumpy ball houses and things like that for the students as well thank you okay um no with no other board updates do we have any items for hearing of the public on other items anybody sign up yes okay can you make sure that's on good catch there you go is it okay to hold it yeah um two things um next week or do I have to say my name okay Linda rothker um two things one is that next week is banned books week and in
0252022 the Banning of books was up 40 percent over the previous year because of people who think that Minority rule ought to be the way it is but the other thing is that they really want to um keep young people in a straight jacket I think a mental straight jacket and I hear that Florida is much worse than any place else so okay the second thing that I want to talk about is that October 3rd which is uh next Tuesday is candidates night at First Church six o'clock is it six o'clock um um I don't know but if you get there at six o'clock you'll probably be okay and then on the fourth there is an issues forum for Lorraine County at the YWCA in Illyria and that is at six o'clock I don't remember
026exactly the time that the oh that's right there's a social uh time at 5 30 and then a program at six to meet the candidates at First Church on Tuesday so that's pretty much all I have to say right now but I would like to ask do you have any plans to highlight banned books week in your schools so check with the building see if they do I might have made me aware of it yet so I can check on it okay because this is something that happens every week and I think that the issue of censorship is a very big factor especially right now so some attention to that would be a good thing okay thank you okay so future meetings October 24th we're gonna do the Oberlin Elementary School and Oberlin High School
