High school. Can I have your [clears throat] picture? Can I HAVE YOUR PICTURE? >> [applause] >> I'LL MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD. IT'S ALL RIGHT. UH SO, LEVI IS our freshman class representative. He is a young man who continues to exemplify the values and character that define our Raider community. Um I have had the pleasure of getting to know and teach Levi um over the past 2 years now. Um last year as an eighth grader, um I was his pre-algebra teacher and then um I missed him so much that I did decide to move up with him over the summer and then I now am his freshman algebra teacher. Um I have witnessed firsthand his growth not only educationally socially but as a valued contributor to his freshman class. Levi's teachers consistently describe him as enthusiastic

to learn and steadfast when faced with a challenge. He does not shut down or give up when he falls short of his initial goal. Instead, he continues to work with positivity and determination all while being a friend to everyone around him. Um additionally, Levi's an active participant in classroom discussions, especially and this comes from Mrs. Krambeck, his freshman focus class, >> [clears throat] >> while consistently demonstrating respect, kindness, and responsibility towards his peers. For all of these rea- reasons, Levi was nominated by his teachers as the freshman Raider Profile student. A well-deserved recognition of his character, his work ethic, and the positive impact of those around him. We're proud to celebrate Levi today and we look forward to all that he will continue to accomplish as a member of the South Raider district. >> [applause]

[applause] >> Um who is it that's supposed to present our sophomore student? Oh, that's me. I have the pleasure to recognize Juliana Swiskoski as our sophomore Raider Profile student for April. Jules and I have a history together, right? Sometimes a bumpy history. >> [laughter] >> As I was her principal at the middle school, but after 1 year break, just as Mr. Miller said about Levi, I just had to follow her up to the high school. While this history may have been somewhat bumpy as I said over the years, I along with many of her teachers recognized several characteristics which Jules possesses that define a South Raider Raider. In every situation, she is honest, sometimes to a fault, and truthful. She doesn't make excuses, she takes ownership for her actions and the actions of her peers,

which you don't often see from today's teenagers. This honesty and accountability allows her to earn the respect of both her classmates and her teachers. Jules also demonstrates an admirable commitment to academic growth. She approaches challenging coursework with a positive attitude, viewing these challenges as an opportunity to prepare for her future. The persistence and dedication of improvement demonstrated by Jules in the classroom is both inspiring and admirable. Loyalty is another characteristic of both a South Range Raider and Juliana Swiskoski. Nowhere is this more evident than in her commitment to those around her. Jules is a loyal friend, the kind of person who shows up for those close to her. Whether she is offering a listening ear, defending a friend, or supporting teammates and classmates, she can be counted on without hesitation. But perhaps her most impressive

trait is her authenticity. She embodies a rare sense of self-assurance, staying true to her own values rather than rather than following the crowd. Jules is unwavering in doing the right thing, though it might be unpopular. By being comfortable in her own skin, she gives others the confidence to be themselves, leading to a culture of acceptance within the high school. Come on up here. We want to congratulate you on this recognition. We are PROUD OF YOU. >> [applause] >> I BELIEVE MRS. SHAYKO IS GOING TO PRESENT OUR junior who actually made it tonight, David, so be seated. He had an unfortunate accident on a motorcycle, which isn't the first time. But Mrs. Shayko. Thank you. Okay. David. So, I have had David for 2 years now um teaching ninth and 11th grade. I've wondered how helpful

it can be to have students at our school who serve as excellent role models to the underclassmen. David perfectly fits that mold, probably because he's used to guiding his younger siblings and fitting into that role. So, it's all because of you guys, I'm serious. Um I had David in ninth grade and he stood out as positive and hardworking. And it's been so awesome to see him become even better in the last 2 years. I've witnessed him helping and guiding underclassmen to be the best version of themselves. I've heard from other teachers that he stands out academically in nearly all of his classes and is not afraid of hard work. He was nominated by a couple different junior teachers for this. This can be seen from the way he balances school, work, soccer, and is extremely

involved and dedicated to dirt biking, as we can see, um which he'll probably get right back to as soon as he can, despite what all his teachers want him to do. Um which is a prime example of how he does not do things halfway. So much that he is here today with his broken leg. What makes him special though is that in addition to excelling in and out of the school, he treats everyone around him with respect and kindness. Because of this, he is a great influence to have around the underclassmen and I'm grateful to have had him in class. >> [applause] [applause] >> And then, actually Mrs. Ware, middle school principal, is going to speak on behalf of Olivia Leshn. Olivia, you want to come up? So, as Mr. said, we I'm Mrs. Ware.

I am middle school principal. So, which seems very different to be introducing a high school senior, but it's my pleasure, the fact that I've even had the opportunity to be able to meet and to experience some time with Olivia. So, we're proud to recognize Olivia tonight for the Raider Profile Award. Olivia exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond to help others. So, if you don't know, in the middle school, Olivia, she has had the opportunity to be able to meet with how many students? I don't know, at least 10. So, she works with multiple students in the middle school to be able to help them. So, we started an academic mentorship program. One in particular, where she has worked with on a daily basis to be able to help study, clean out lockers,

organize themselves, done at anything that she could possibly do in order to be able to help the students succeed. The most important part about this is to be able to see the relationship in the hallway. So, I walk down the hallway, I often see Olivia in the middle school. She is giving up her time to be able to come to the middle school to work with our students. That one particular student has improved his grade in every single class. Really, he's working very hard, but a lot of it is because of Olivia. She has had the opportunity to really help him, motivate him, get him to be able to see that there is potential and that he can really do very, very well and he can succeed. So, it took one person believing in him

and that is Olivia. I don't have anything but wonderful things to be able to say about her. Congratulations. >> [applause] >> All right. Next, we are going to call up coach, we're going to call come on up. And we're going to celebrate board, we're going to celebrate our wrestlers who did extremely well. >> [snorts] >> So, two to speak up is Ralphie Stallone and Tyson Seesholtz. Guys, will you come up? >> [applause] >> So, Ralphie is a sophomore here. He's a state qualifier and ended up taking eighth at the high school state tournament this year. Um, I've been coaching for 25 years. Probably the most the biggest improvement from the beginning of the year to the end. Ralphie just got on a run and you could see it every day in his face at practice

and you knew something special was going to happen. And to take eighth as a sophomore, um, you can see the list of state placers here at the school is short and now Ralphie's on it forever. Um, Ralphie Stallone. >> [applause] >> Tyson Seesholtz. Uh, was a state runner-up this year. Tyson is the most decorated wrestler in the school's history. He's a four-time state qualifier, three-time state placer, two-time state finalist. Um, if you don't know Tyson, I feel bad for you cuz everybody should know Tyson and if you have young children, he is the kid that they should look up to. Um, he uh, for those that don't know, he is on a full scholarship to Drexel University in the fall. So, Tyson Seesholtz. >> [applause] >> ALSO NOT HERE TONIGHT is Edward Stackowitz. He was

a state qualifier for us today for this year and he was just recently sworn into the US Navy last week. That's how it goes. >> [applause] >> So, just to finish out our Raider Profile winners from the high school, I'd like to invite up Coach Fryfogle. And we have some amazing speech and debate students that we're going to honor. Um, first, the speech and debate team would like to thank um, the school board, Dr. Sapone, and Mr. Zolek. Um, for those of you who don't know, this year we had the privilege of co-hosting the state tournament for speech and debate, which is not a little undertaking and they had to trust us when we said, "Hey, can we bring a couple thousand people to the Canfield area to be at this tournament?" So, we really

appreciate that. Um, we had some students who made it to elimination rounds that are with me today. I'm going to bring them up. JJ Kennedy in international extemporaneous speaking, Addy Sell, come on up, JJ. Addy Sell in program oral interpretation. She's in two categories, so I had to remember what she did at state. And Quincy Bailey in humor. Um, so, these guys all made it into elimination rounds at the state tournament. Um, but they are also Wait, I gave you the wrong one, Addy. I gave you Selina. Um, and Selina DeHayes DeHayes is who is not here with us tonight. She has a ball game. Um, they all made it to eliminations at the state tournament, but they are also national qualifiers. Um, so we're going to be going to Richmond in a few weeks

and they're going to be competing on the national level. Um, this will be JJ's third time going to the national tournament. This will be Addy's first time going to the national tournament with her partner, Harper Bailey. And this [clears throat] will be Quincy's fourth time going to the high school national tournament, but she was also fifth in the nation as an eighth grader. Um, so Quincy has been She qualified her first year outright. She then went or qualified her second year and she or no, yeah, yeah. Qualified her first year. Her second year she then auto qualified and got to go back without even competing to do it. Um, she then auto qualified again. Um, and we're going to be going back this year. She's been a national semi-finalist, which means of all of the

kids in the nation, she has been in the top 12. So, um, we are all going back to Richmond. We're very excited about that. Um, and thank you to the Austintown community for helping us to host the state tournament. It was an exciting thing to do. And Quincy actually has something for Dr. Sapone from our Northern Ohio district tournament. Yeah, so the NSDA awards a district administrator of the year and this year it went to Dr. Jared Sapone. SO, CONGRATULATIONS. >> [applause] >> THANK YOU. KEEP US IN MIND WHEN WE'RE IN RICHMOND IN JUNE. >> [applause] >> UM, SO WE ARE WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A fundraiser starting at 9:00 tomorrow morning. We have a team garage sale every year because to go to nationals, it costs us thousands of dollars, you can imagine.

We have 10 national qualifiers this year. Um, eight at the high school level and two middle schoolers that will be going with us to Richmond and that's a pretty expensive endeavor. We fundraise to try to make it 100% free. Um, so we have a garage sale this weekend um, on Washingtonville Road. If you're driving around and you want to stop by, it is gigantic. We put it all together today. So, we're hoping to finish our fundraising to make it free for everybody. So, that's our goal. So, COME SEE US. >> [applause] >> GIVE US FIVE MORE MINUTES. SO, AT THIS TIME we take some photographs. So, we're going to clean out this area. Students, coaches, Mr. Zolek, uh, Coach Fryfogle, we're going to take one with just the kids themselves and I can get a

chair up here. And then the second one will be with the coaches. And then parents, at this time, you know, feel free to take pictures, the time is yours. All right, so students, >> [music] >> You go behind the table. Yes, sir. Behind the table, just go behind the table. >> [clears throat] >> Yeah, we can just go right over here. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> All right. >> [laughter] >> No, I'm not going to be able to hold this. All right, ready? Certificates, good. One, two, three. And get out of the way. >> [laughter] >> All right, Mr. Zolek, coaches, Mr. Fryfogle, wherever you went. I can >> [laughter] [laughter] >> Ready? 1 2 3 1 2 3 Good. >> [laughter] >> All right, thank you guys. Parents, if you want to take more photographs,

a couple more minutes. If not, this is a good time to go get dinner. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> Congratulations. [laughter] >> [laughter] [laughter] >> All right, we're going to go ahead and start continuing with the board meeting. That's on the agenda, public participation. Speakers have no more than 2 minutes and 15 minutes total for agenda items. Public participation, Rich. I'll go. Rich Redshaw, North Wildwood. Um before coming into this meeting, I talked to Dr. Zappleman, and he informed me that next year we had 53 resident kindergarten kids coming in. I was also informed we intend to keep three teachers. Now, two meetings ago, I talked to Terry and I talked to Laura at the end of that meeting, and I was told that if we had that many kids, we were going to have two

kindergarten teachers and two aides in each class. So, why the change? You two You two said that to me. Don't sit there and lie to me and say you didn't cuz you did. You said that's the way we That's the direction we were going to. We said we were looking into options. That's what we said. We certainly said that. >> if you didn't If there were more than two If If that those numbers came to came to fruition, which they did. We had 53 next year. We had 52 this past year. I told you last year to go to two two or three teachers, and you didn't. Right, two or three teachers. All right, now we're going to Now we're going to go to three. And this is perfect. You have two resignations. You're It's

not like you're getting rid of anybody. You're just not replacing people. There's zero reason at all, zero reason we can't run that on two teachers. And if class size is so important If we're going to insist on three and class size is so important, all four of you better not let it be letting him put a single open enrollment kid in kindergarten because class size is so important. So, the lower it is, the better. It's time to start biting the bullet and and cutting down the open enrollment addiction that we've become hooked on. It's ridiculous. We're getting what? $4,500 a kid? A teacher's $100,000. It doesn't The math doesn't make sense anymore. It doesn't make sense anymore. And I'm sorry. I mean, it If you will have an opposed levy. Act for South Orange is

going to come back. It will be actively funded, and if there are more than two teachers next year, your levy will be opposed. If you even have a levy, because there's a good chance if property tax gets repealed on the ballot, you're not even going to have property tax. And then you're really screwed. So, you better start tightening your budget. I mean, it's it's ridiculous. Cuts need to be made, and they Not even cuts. You just need to quit replacing people as they retire. We're down to about six or 60 or 70 kids in a grade level. >> 2 minutes. >> We need that many teachers. Thank you. >> We do take your information into heart, and we do look at our budget, and we feel Mario is doing a good job, and we go

by his recommendations. I'd like to respond to that. Um so 52, I'm no math wizard, but you just mentioned class size. That would put our class ratio at 26 to 1, which would be higher than what we're currently at. So, class size is important because these these teachers the it's kindergarten, and and and class size is important, and we have already um we already provide as as many aides as we can fiscally responsible enough to, you know, to to do what we need to get done. Um what I will say about the about the the the three teacher thing is that to maintain the 22 to 1 class size ratio that was negotiated in the contract, that's three teachers. And if you're if you're going to go to three teachers, then then there's open enrollment

opportunities to where you can fill those seats. Just like you said before, Rich, that open enrollment's used to fill to capacity. So, I I don't I I take what you said as you know, I understand you're passionate about the subject. However, I I I do think that the opportunity to go to three teachers is is important, but we also have to look at the future because there's four first grade teachers going forward. So, now there's going to be a higher cost per child to educate because we're not getting rid of those four um first grade teachers. So, there will be open enrollment opportunities for first grade, and we at no additional cost, you'll be able to fill seats and um and collect the the money for the open enrollment children. Um the last thing we

want to do right now is be a sink shrinking district with with everything that's going on. Um so, uh unfortunately, we aren't going to have four uh it doesn't look like we're going to have four kindergarten teachers right at the moment, but there's still opportunity There's still time. The deadline's the 30th, so we can't jump to conclusions, and we have to and we to um you know, make sure that that is the final number and I I I am not in favor of a 26 to 1 ratio. And there's other options that we have not options, but other things we have to look to. A lot of people sometimes register late. And we want to stay ahead of the game and make sure we have those numbers sure. So, if we have five more coming

in that are residents, plus the way this area is building, we don't want to come August, September and have 32 kids per class, which we we just can't do. That's not how you get the education. And now since the law says they can start up until the day we start school, we have younger kids, which their cognitive level is not as advanced as the ones that are older. And South Range is very academically thriving and we want to keep that. But we did take your information into consideration and we did not hire the fourth kindergarten teacher. If you'd done it last year, you'd still only have three first grade >> year is done. I asked you last year but you didn't listen to me last year either. You'd have three first grade Okay, it's not

up for discussion. This is what's happening. Okay. For communications, Dr. Sapone. Yeah, first Were there any other public participation comments? Sorry, Sorry, Tyler. Okay. No, you're good. First, I'd just like to welcome every back everyone back from spring break. I hope the board, everyone had good time with family and friends. Congratulations again to to Lisa and all those wonderful kids. I just love taking time. That's why we're here, right? The student celebrations and to do things for kids. Um to report out to our Raider Way goals, safety and resources, I would like to want to thank Dean and his crew for all the projects they completed on campus. Um every day this place was hopping and Dean had you know, we drilled the north well, we had HVAC. The one time the fire alarm went

off by accident because we were testing um six different safety things. So, Dean, good job you know, with [clears throat] you and your crew, Lockmaster, deep cleaning, um video board at at Rominger Stadium, water sampling, just a ton of projects. The north well we did drill and there's a lot of water down there. So, it's really great. That's like step one. If there were three steps to have now two functioning wells, we're at step one. Step two is going to happen here in a few weeks or so. Um where each there's like testing and things that have to happen before they connect with our um our existing pipes to get water in. And then step three would be we're operational. Um so so just know that that's coming down the pike. A special shout out

to Dean and the crew. Later on in the board agenda, you're going to see a resolution to approve the bid for the parking lot project that we've been working on for our master facilities plan for for two years on that. Um very excited about improving this the safety in our in our parking lot, um which is much needed. Um also with Dean Deering in the world of technology, um he's established various meetings with companies regarding upgrades to our website as well as communication methods that we use to share information with families. So, at this time, I'd just like Dean to just report out on what those meetings look like and sound like and just what we're talking about. >> Yeah, so we we uh met in conference with several companies in the time span of

maybe three months uh this year. And and we've been looking because we know that our system our current system TEC is kind of a legacy system. We've all had it where we didn't get calls that that we're supposed to get or the the incomplete call came through. So, we're looking to provide better communications in that in that format and also try to send out more richer communications. Um some some of that is our limitations on TEC's end. So, right now we're we're kind of leaning towards the Finalsite uh add-on, uh but we're still checking with other vendors that that are, you know, lined up for a second call or second round of uh of meetings with them to to see what fits best for our district. Finalsite is more comprehensive because we already have their

website. So, it's just a smaller addition on top of what we already paid for the website hosting. Uh so, we're we're kind of leaning in that direction. So, more to more to come, more to share as we get more into it, but we definitely would like to see a change or an improved product for next school year is the plan. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Continuing with our student performance district goal, I'd like to invite Mrs. Ware to present the work she uh Mrs. DeCindio and our entire math team have performed aligning with new mandated [clears throat] uh advanced math pathways. So, with the passage of House Bill 96, it's saying that um according to our state testing scores, if our students pass the state test with an advanced score, they are expected to

take an advanced pathway course for mathematics. So, this can not be confused with accelerated mathematics. So, accelerated mathematics is when we have our students who essentially are skipping a grade of math. So, that happens really in our building at sixth grade. So, students who have um a gifted identification of mathematics or have scored a certain cut score um on their state test now skip sixth grade math and take seventh grade math as a sixth grader. When they're doing that, they also take the seventh grade state assessment at the end of the year. This is different. So, now state law is saying not only do you have that accelerated pathway, you also need to create an advanced pathway. So, any student who is performing advanced on the state assessment needs to be offered an advanced pathway

as long as you already have advanced coursework in place. So, for instance, we already have advanced coursework in place for our accelerated students, so that automatically means that starting for middle school, we need to be able to have advanced coursework for our students. So, we need to have accelerated classes for the students who are skipping [clears throat] a grade in math and need to have advanced classes. While that really helps a lot of our students, it also is a struggle in a small school because then that means we have one accelerated class with the amount of students that we have who are scoring advanced, we probably will have two advanced classes in some of our grades and then we have one class who's not falling into any of those pockets. So, that does pose difficulties

for some of our students, um but that is where the law is sitting at this moment. So, we are going to be adhering to the law to ensure that we have accelerated pathways, we have advanced pathways, um and really trying to work hard to be able to make sure that our curriculum also matches that because not only can we say that we have advanced, we have to ensure that we're providing deeper content, rigorous pathways. We really have to make sure that our students have those advanced opportunities within those courseworks. So, that causes, you know, a lot of differentiation within our curriculum and within our teachers' abilities to be able to go in a deeper way, which is great. Um but it's just something that we're definitely working through with curriculum and with ourselves and with

the teachers. Thank you. There's also uh Senator Brenner South uh Senate Bill 19 is taking it one step beyond in proposed legislation for any kid that scores a four or a five. And it's you don't have it's parents students are offered this. Parents could say, "No, we want to keep them, you know, in general math, let's say." But the language right now is you have to offer it for a kid that scored a five, so five out of five, advanced. This new Senate Bill 19 is four or five, which is going to put a curveball in in this whole plan because it it's staffing as well, you know, it's it's utilizing your staff effectively to educate the kids. So, more to come on that. I appreciate all the work that everyone's doing. So, that that

has passed. Senate Bill 19 What Julian presented on with kids scoring a five, yes, you have to offer >> So, next year we'll have to offer these programs. Next Correct, for five. But Senate Bill 19 by Brenner is students scoring accelerated or advanced. So, that hasn't passed yet. Okay. So, we'll cross that bridge when we And there's so many unfunded mandates from kindergarten through your senior year, meaning we have to do X, Y, and Z. A lot of the NEOLA policies, we talk about that and they don't give you dollars to do these things. So, it's it's challenging when the nature of the game is changing and the resources aren't there to provide all of these changes. It's like playing a basketball game or a football game. It takes 11 people to play football and

you're playing the game with three. You're constantly running zone coverage. So, that's sometimes as a building principal with teachers, you're trying to differentiate the best you can and it's a challenge. But hey, we do what we can. So. And last but not least, and I I'm not sure if Steve, you speak so eloquently. I don't know if you want to add to the kindergarten discussion from earlier. Um but Steve was just going to do a preliminary update. I don't know if we need it now since we kind of hashed that out earlier, but Steve, do you >> Did we miss anything? Yeah, I don't think we missed anything. The only thing I would add to that discussion, I mean you obviously know the numbers, you know, we're 52 resident students. Um Tyler, I agree with

you, two teacher, 26 in a class is not ideal for any grade level. Um so, you know, you we at three three teachers right now if we're following our administrative guidelines. You know, that's that's where we would be. We're near about 17 or 18 students in a room. Um, you know, quite honestly, I'd love to have even lower kindergarten numbers and stay four teachers and put 13 or 14 in a room. And then and I know that's not you know, that's that's way low. But you know, we're at three right now. That's that's where we're currently [clears throat] at. Um, and we just have to keep in mind that we are going to have students move in. Um, it happens every year from now to through the through the school year. Um, I know right

now from talking to some preschools, even our own preschool here, we have residents that have not registered. So, that 52 is going to get get larger. Um, we've sent information out to 24 preschools that of the students who have currently registered to say, "Hey, don't forget, especially that your first child, you might not even know it's time to register." So, we're probably going to get some first-timers that are still going to register. They don't realize it. Um, so again, that number is probably going to grow. Um, unfortunately, and sometimes just because kids are young, sometimes it's because they just need another year, we typically have retentions in kindergarten. So, that 52 is going to grow. Um, so we're just going to have to wait and see, you know, if we go with three now, wait

and see what happens to that number. You know, keep our eye on it. Um, and then you know, if if make sure we don't take too many open enrollment students and have it blow up too much or not enough and just it's going to be a really a different you know, spring and summer keeping our eye on that number probably every day to to kind of see what happens. Because you also if you're if it's getting close where we are considering a fourth teacher, you don't want to wait too late where you know, a lot of the teachers have taken have taken jobs. So, just something as a board, you know, just to really keep keep in mind if we're if we're making those you know, those decisions. And and and it was just a

special shout out to the kindergarten and first grade teachers. We met multiple times and one of the ideas was, "Well, what if we reach out to the day care centers or the preschool centers, excuse me?" And appreciate that suggestion and and Steve and the team did K squared and and Steve they put that together. So, thank you guys for those ideas to put that out there. Real cute little uh little cards or whatever on them. And that's all I had for communications. Okay. Mr. Nero, financial report. Um, >> [clears throat] >> uh yes, sorry. Uh March uh financial provided. If you have any questions on the reports, let me know. I was just going to highlight we did receive our first half tax settlement on April 3rd. Um, it's roughly got a little bit more

but roughly on pace with previous years. Uh we haven't with the tax credit there's a reduction this first half but possibly in the second half when the tax credits take effect, but the expectation is to at least receive what we did the previous year in tax uh settlements and the forecast did reflect that. Um, so usually the collection splits roughly 53 to 55% each year on average of when taxes hit. So, any um changes that percentage would impact what year the taxes what fiscal year the taxes are in our forecast. And then last I just want to update on the refunding. We have it's on hold right now um because of the warrant rates started to increase. So, our potential savings dropped. So, we're everything's ready to go and that would be credit Yeah, the

standard and poor to be our district rating got upgraded from A to A plus, which is also very good. So, it helps us to get better interest rate when it is time to go. So, right now we're just kind of in a holding pattern, but all the legwork to get to that point to do the refunding is done. So, I'll get to you guys updated as things change. Any questions for Mr. Nero? Thanks. Personnel. Yes, so these are all consent agenda items. So, I'm just going to go through each of these items. Item C is just several staff resignations or retirements. Uh just special thanks to all these teachers, decades of experience um in their effective retirement date. Item D, certified new staff. We have a uh a staff member that wants some one-on-one tutoring

after school at a local library for a student that needs that support. Item E, motion to approve classified staff new hire. We have a driver that's helping the custodian, you know, always trying to get coverage especially in the spring to help with the outside custodial work. So, getting a driver to work in the cafeteria that helps Rich to go outside with all the acreage and the cutting of grass and so forth. Item F, supplemental contracts. So, with the you know, >> [clears throat] >> with the athletic director and with the coaching situation, so we have to rescind item F and then we're splitting that because we're getting they're going to split the stipend. So, that's what item F is and then item G is actually splitting that stipend with this [cough] is with um with

Mr. uh Weaver. Item H, just a host of approving staff summer help. A lot of these um individuals helped over over break and if the campus just looks great. Great job, Dean, working on a lot of this summer help, custodial work, and then the um in the office with Mrs. A. Item I, motion to approve the following personnel beginning with next year. So, these are limited contracts. So, every April is like contract season um you know, for the next few the next year. So, item I are limited contracts uh with those administrators or staff. Item J is motion to approve the certified staff and this is for 1 year. So, we're going by our contract, 1 year, 2 year, and then continuing. So, item K are two 2-year limited contracts for certified staff. Item what

was that? L? This is a substitute. So, the first three are tutors and in the worst case scenario if we don't have a sub that day, um if we ever needed them to sub, they will, but their job here is to to tutor. So, we have to give them a certain rate um because again, they're they're tutors. They're not subs. So, this is in the event that we needed an emergency coverage. Um, item M are now in the classified staff and we're following the classified language with 2-year limited contracts. Item N are continuing. That's in the contract um for the classified staff um which aligns with the law of continuing contracts. Item O is motion to approve the list of 107 graduates. This is tentative. Um, good great job, Dan, in the high school staff

for putting this list together. And I believe those are all the consent agenda items. Okay, motion to approve consent agenda items. I move. Laura moves. >> Tyler seconds. All in favor? Aye. Treasurer's regular agenda report. Yeah, the first item is the uh approval of transfer of funds. So, we uh set that capital projects fund for the paving. Uh so, that first transfer is just to cover the expected amount in the next motion. And then also with some of those retirees, um when I started I created a termination benefits fund. It's just it was created for like an accounting and it kind of helped with the forecast to kind of stabilize the personnel line cuz when you pay severance it throws your numbers to jump up. So, kind of transfer it to another fund. So, that

is just to cover the expected uh severance in for next year. Uh question about Yeah, so like just for clarification, this this transfer is was expected and projected in the forecast. There's no It wasn't a new thing. We're not pulling anything from any general fund. It's been projected and Yeah, it was accounted for in the forecast. It was just usually the more you do it towards the end of the fiscal year, but because of the timing of the projects, we're doing it now. Thank you. Any other questions? Motion to approve? I move. Laura moves. Sorry, Elizabeth moves. Have a second? I'll second. Laura seconds. All in favor? Aye. the formal bid process with them that meets the state standards. Um, so as being a member, you can use Pave Connect. You can meet all the

bidding requirements. They also take it a step further and get they work with other companies and get quotes from them to even get a better deal. So, first resolution is just to work with Pave Connect and who also works with one of the vendors we want to work with is with Lindy Paving to get the best deal we can for the project. So, this project will just be for parking lot on this side of the street. The other side is not part of this project. Okay, so Pave Connect was the one who got the bid from Lindy and two other companies, correct? >> Correct. Yep. Okay, and we had nothing in that part of it. You know, it all went out to Yeah, so they sent me their bidding. So, Pave Connect has their bidding.

So, I got the bidding requirements for the Qualis. That's what I'll get audited on. Okay. I also got like some of the documents from Pave Connect in case the auditors wanted to see that like what was their process to work with their vendors. Okay. Motion to move or any questions? I'm sorry. I'm going to abstain from voting. I I want to make a quick comment about this cuz I thought, I I thought it was really important. Um, thank so much Tyler for all the work. I know this was a two-hour long two-year long project. I was really excited to see in the bid that we're fixing the handicap access. That's been a serious problem. The only thing I was disappointed in and it doesn't matter now was that we're spending a million dollars and we

still have a terrible traffic flow in our parking lot. That's the only and that's a personal thing. It's personal opinion, but I'm I'm very excited to see that it's we're we're fixing that the handicapping was a serious problem at least over in the elementary school. So So I'll speak on that for a minute. We did look at some options to uh possibly improve >> not just me. Well Well, there's you know, anytime there we have there's issues with you know, with buses and and where they got to get to and how they got to integrate with you know, the other people parking and you're dropping off and stuff like that. So there's So there's it's not a perfect design by by but it would be unfeasible to But it was it was thought about and

discussed and oh okay. Well, I appreciate that. Thank you. >> you'd be looking at a three instead of a one in front of that project so or in front of that you know, it's the first number there in the million. So it wasn't we knew it wasn't even going to be worth Well, I appreciate it. On that I'll move to I'll move. Laura moves. Liz seconds. Should we do a roll call since there's the three of us? Yeah. Okay. Uh Mrs. Chism? Yes. Uh Mrs. Johnson? Yes. Tyler, you're abstaining. Mhm. Mrs. Wally? Yes. Weight room renovation resale items. Uh yeah, I think with the issue some of the project down there a little bit more but essentially there's items the boosters donated items to help renovate the weight room and they're just looking to sell

some of them. The other thing is so there will be more in future meetings but this is just what they have at this time. Okay. Do we have to sell that like in a public fashion? Um at a certain threshold we do. Okay. Under a certain threshold it's all at the superintendent's discretion if they come to an agreement with the reps of the Booster Club. Yeah, if you get a fair like a fair market value for it. Okay. I'll second. Okay. I'll move. Tyler moves. >> Yeah. Liz seconds. All in favor? I. I. Okay. Donations. I'll just Thank everybody for the support for the district. Uh let's see. There's kind of listed there. Our Key Club Valley Sound was a career was a grant through the Career Tech that I know Mrs. Warriors worked with

her staff to purchase some items. And then they like the boosters who was that one for? Oh, that was for uniforms to help reimburse for the uniforms of the high school purchases and anything. So Thank you. Motion. I'll move. Second. Tyler moves. Liz seconds. All in favor? I. I. Okay. Superintendent regular agenda items personnel. Yeah, motion to approve the following classified personnel for a two-year contract aligning with the negotiated agreement for the drivers and that is Miss Daniel Colaric. Motion to move. I'll move. I'll second. Go ahead. No, go ahead. I got it. Laura seconds. Tyler Laura Laura moves. Tyler seconds. All in favor? >> I. I. And I abstain. Okay. March 19th business advisory council minutes. >> Really good meeting. Yeah, we attended it. ESC puts on the back at no charge the cog

puts on the business advisory council and they had the skills trades there. It it just I put the notes from from my my time there. Just really great to hear what's in the in the valley and how we're aligning our our 7 through 12 programming and actually K through 12 with STEM. I know Mr. Mason in the elementary school staff really looking towards a STEM focused. So those are just my notes from that meeting. Very very powerful meeting that day. Motion. I'll move. Liz moves. I'll second. Tyler seconds. All in favor? I. Cybersecurity program. Yeah, this is per law we have to have safeguards with information data and systems to ensure availability confidentiality in alignment with House Bill 96. This is just the framework of our cybersecurity program aligning to law and we had to

approve it by a certain date this spring. I can't remember off the top of my head when that date was. But there's probably going to be more in future board meetings with cybersecurity. Motion. I'll move. Tyler moves. I'll second. Liz seconds. All in favor? I. Student overnight trip for middle school Power of the Pen. Yeah, we have a student, her parent and one of our staff members qualify for a trip to Ashland cuz she made the state Power of the Pen tournament which is huge award. So they were just approving this overnight trip. >> I'll move. Liz moves. Laura seconds. All in favor? I. Board policy consideration for adoption of April 2026. >> Yeah, this is the second final read of what Caitlyn and Caitlyn presented last month. So this is just the the second

[clears throat] read of that. Okay. Motion. I'll move. Tyler moves. Liz seconds. All in favor? I. Can I ask a question about that since Caitlyn's here? Um I had actually a couple comments today from people who are still upset that they aren't able to print a menu. Is there a way that we can have like a text message go out with that with a link to the Google form with that? Cuz I I know understand why we can't put it on the website. You cleared that up last month, but >> [clears throat] >> with little kids we we have to have a menu on the refrigerator. It's just it's imperative at home. I I hear you. I understand you. I know, but I can't print that. No. Actually, I was just going to say I

had a Teams call today and there was actually a couple other school districts under nutrition group since there there were a couple states that also had the potential lawsuit for the same reason we did. So nutrition group contacted Canva. That's where those menus are made if you're familiar with that and they are actually working with Canva and supposedly May's menu which I didn't look at yet, the template is ADA compliant. So I should I should have May Canva's menu available and they're saying it's ADA compliant. What that will look like I don't know, but I'm thinking similar to the previous menus. So I think that might possibly be a solution. Yeah, I'm excited. Good. It's the little things. It's the little It really [laughter] is. It's the little things, but ask any mom. So That's

for sure. >> [clears throat] >> Moving forward, retire rehire. Yeah, this motion is to initiate just step one under Ohio law for the consideration of retire rehire reemployment. So again, there's a 60-day, there's a 30-day, there's a 15-day window for us to actually approve teachers or the staff members for a retire rehire. We have to do this now. So this isn't approving anyone for it. This is initiating the process. Any questions? And with with that um I I understand we had I don't know if we should disclose the individuals, but the the areas were pretty precise. Like they were they were very you know, the areas where we're looking to fill those positions that might be hard to fill or at least get the experience correct. Yeah, and with one of them we're looking at

if people are interested in possibly taking this over like a shadowing. I want to There's a lot to it. You can't just walk in day one. There's there's a lot of information on the back end. So we were just very uncomfortable and when this person approached us about a possible staying on for another year especially to shadow to kind of teach all the tricks that this person had learned we were like this is a no-brainer. Yeah. Um this person doesn't need insurance as well. So it was It would be a savings It would be a savings to the district. We would keep the experience and the the the individual brings and and possibly use them as a mentor for >> Correct. to go forward. >> For anybody internal. So then if anybody internal was interested

then they would meet with me and this would show us, hey, if you're interested in X position, then you should be shadowing. You know what I mean? So it's kind of a win-win for all of us. Like a grow your own. And I know this isn't approved >> Right. >> at this moment, but just for clarity. And I want to let the board know with this because we have been talking about this. I have had some some very effective educators, very strong educators consider this because in the next X amount of years um there are there are people that are going to go that aren't ready to go who are just very very good teachers. You know, and I said flat out I said, well if it's this position we could probably get a lot

of people in that position. We're hoping you you know, you stay. So retire rehire is for X amount of years I put in I'm currently putting in my own savings account for the state. So, I officially start pulling from that and then the district instead of paying that pay pays at a reduced percent. It's not 15% and there's a negotiated step that you go. So, as a district you save dollars on the salary piece, but I still collect my own what I put into it. So, that's in in theory what it is. And everybody would be a case-by-case basis. >> Correct. It wouldn't be a policy where you're guaranteed that. Yeah, and there are things I have to negotiate with the union. The union's been phenomenal. Like little things sick days stuff like that. Like

we'll we'll work out. I have no doubt with the union leadership we'll come to a a good resolution with that. We want to say these are on one year one year contracts. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yearly contracts. Yeah. Do I have a motion? I move. Laura moves. Do I have a second? I'll second. Tyler seconds. Okay, public participation for non-agenda items. >> Yes, sir. Oh, I'm sorry. Just say one. Any opposed? Any opposed? Okay, passed. >> [laughter] >> Public participation non-agenda items. You have two minutes. Okay, other matters. So, the next board meeting right now is May 20th. However, How about there? Hey, we talked about this in January. Um a lot going on in the spring at that time. So, What's that? Uh what's the retire rehire? May 20th Run out run back Two of

us won't be here. Well, I can just run out. >> Well, the next one's just the hearing. The June 17th is the voting. We can't move it like a day. Or like a week. >> Can we move it a day early? We have to we have to check. So, do it like a Monday. Okay. I know it's really inconvenient and I hate doing that, but two of us are not going to be here. >> potential we could potentially do that. Do it a Is it The resolutions have the dates. Yes, it says May 20th. Oh, cool. Yeah, can we move it up early? Yeah. I mean Like yeah. The concert starts at 6:00. Move it up to 5:00. [clears throat] 4:30 I know it's not a problem. Yeah, we're we're not going to be there.

I'm just trying to give you guys time. No, that's fine. I have to be there at 5:00 for the voting. Okay, so this is that. There might not be a lot of stuff on May. It does say time. >> [laughter] >> Can we Yeah. These people don't need to be here for this. Let's let's So, that's we'll get back. I'll get back to that. Does that work? Yeah. Sorry, I didn't I just noticed it when I was looking at my calendar. I'm like, uh-oh. And of course my kid's going to be on at 6:00 and her kids will be on at 6:30. 6:30. So, Okay, we'll look at the best we can. Yeah. >> [clears throat] >> It's the It's the band concert. Okay. We could like tag out. We could tag out. All right,

that's fine. Yeah, we'll we'll talk about it. Um We can't approve that. I actually have a couple questions. I know we talked about the one the cap and gown. Have you found out any information on that? Yeah, actually did some did some research. This goes back to July where students actually had a a big say in this. Um So, there are changes in the law that we have to follow. And when situations come come up with a cap and gown specifically with gender, um we have a legal obligation now because of that law that changed last year. So, the last few years this has been an issue. And now with the new law and at that time the conversation that we had, um well, it's well, what if we went to what a lot of

neighboring schools have done, which is a neutral so there's no this or no that. Everyone gets the same neutral color. Um when that was kind of the conversation between the building at the building at the time, what I'd learned was then it was like, well, let's get what students have to say about this. And they actually took it You remember when in July, but they met in July. It was right Well, they had a student officer meeting during the summer. And that was the topic of the conversation. Yeah. So, then the students were fine with what was decided. Um and they basically moved forward. And then that process was basically August motion. Um Liz moves. Tyler seconds. Roll call, please. Also, Johnson Yes. Tyler Bates Yes. Laura Jetmark >> Yes. Terry Lawler >> Yes. Okay.

We won't be voting on anything. If you like to stay you can. If you like to move All right. 7:14 it shows executive session. Do your employees need to tell you how many employees
