going to call this meeting to order. Mr. Ner, if you call the role, please. >> Tyler Bates >> here. Jack Dawson >> here. >> Elizabeth Johnson >> here. >> Terry Low >> here. >> Brian B >> here. Uh, if you would please, we're going to observe a moment of silence. Then we'll stand for the pledge. >> Please stand for the pledge. [Applause] I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [Applause] >> Okay. First item is the agenda approval for this night this evening's meeting. There's no changes. We just need a motion to approve the agenda. >> I'll move. >> Uh we got Terry with a motion. Tyler with a second. All in

favor? >> I >> opposed. The agenda is approved. So, we will go right to recognition. Uh Dr. >> Yeah. I'd like uh Brenda and a few of her staff members to come on up. Um congratulations to our entire transportation department for what they do day in and day out throughout the year. But a special shout out to Brenda and I don't know if you want to inform the board the board on what you guys were able to do uh this year because they passed bus inspection. They do it every year. We pass inspection but they really worked above and beyond. Um if you just want to fill them in and on behalf of all of us, thank you guys. You guys rock it. As I told you a whole bunch this summer. I appreciate you

guys from the bottom of my heart. Well, we pretty much had a new crew this year, so it was kind of from the start, you know, it was But I've had I've had schools call me and ask me, "How we make it work?" You know, how do we not have to farm all these things out and how do we keep our buses going? And we just have a very unique group of people. Um, Eric and Ed Schaefer, they do most mechanical. Uh we have a part-time mechanic, Danny Brothers, that comes in if we need them. Danielle went above and beyond this year. Uh you know, these people give up half of their summers to to make sure the buses are ready to go in the in the fall and every one of our buses pass

inspection this year. And for just being new to some of it, you know, not much experience, they did an outstanding job. When I spoke with the inspector who's been doing it >> Jerry >> a little while, right? He's been doing it long time. He was just saying we have the best crew. He and he loves coming to our place and and they just do a bangup job. So, we have a little token of appreciation for for all the entire transportation department, especially for you guys. Um, and special shout out to Carrie Mson for helping us >> order a note of gratitude. So, we just thought since you were drivers and it just says on the bottom of it, I can't really read it on, >> but just thank you with a little with a little

bus on it. So, >> it's like >> for going the extra mile. >> Thank you guys. Thank you. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you very much. >> All right. Thank you guys. [Applause] And that's all I have for recognition. >> Okay. Can I ask something real quick? We are How are we on drivers this year, >> Brenda? >> How are we on drivers this year? >> Um, we still have two routes that are not covered. I do have um a couple in training that hope to be done before the school year begins. if not a couple of my subs um like one can drive Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, another one can do mornings, another one can do afternoons. So, we'll get through and you know I can drive until I'm able to to give

somebody a full-time position there. >> But this is the first time that well last year was a little bit rough but I've never had trouble finding drivers. It's this is the first time really that there's been a problem. I mean, I realize it's a problem everywhere, but it's never really affected South Range till pretty much now. Yeah. >> And with the drivers, the state of Ohio, you know, informs us every year and we have different changes that we have to drive different non-public educated students. We we're responsible for transporting. So, good job, Brenda. Always trying to >> keep keep on top of that situation and trying to find drivers for all those students as well. >> Thank you. And all that's posted, right? Everything's listed. Any applicants? >> Yeah. Hopefully. >> Yeah. She's she's had

two that they were training and the process to train isn't overnight. >> No, that's that's one of the problems. And then there's no guarantee. You send them through school and then all of a sudden, you know, you put hours into them, oh, something's come up and they're gone. And that, you know, the schools put that money into them and everything. And there's really nothing you can do. There's no until they actually would complete their school. You can't say you have to give us a year or anything. Not, you know, we don't have anything in place for that. Um, >> no, that's not something we can look into if we put the the time and the money into it. >> Yeah. >> They either pay us back or >> Yeah, we we have something like that

now. But like I said, it's you send them to the training and then they're almost that happened this year. They're almost done and they're like, "Oh, I found a job. No thanks." And we're like, "Are you serious?" And the other and the flip side of that is if you train too many of them and you don't have the work for them, another school's going to take them >> and you've lost the money that way, too. >> So, it's it's like a balancing act. It really is. >> So, >> thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> We appreciate it. I know my kids ride Mr. Moines's bus and they look forward to seeing him every day. There's going to be four this year. >> I was wondering. >> Good luck with the >> four separate

I told them the bicker at home, not here. >> They do do that. >> Well, thanks. You guys are welcome to stick around for the meeting if you want to take off. You're not going to offend us. So, feel free to do whatever you like. >> Yeah. Well, she's my ride. She wants >> you have a drive. >> Thank you very >> uh let's see. We'll move to item number six. This would be public participation for agenda items. >> I didn't sign in. I just >> um I'm extremely anxious to hear the conversation you guys have about how the $25,000 marketing contract is going to enhance the kids education >> on that topic or >> on any any agenda item. Um, we had um a group of parents get together and are generating quotes for

upgrading the weight room equipment. So, I wanted to get that in front of you guys just as I mean just as a courtesy and you know we'll be trying to raise funds for it and stuff but uh we have >> and such is so let me uh we're going to have another section at the end for non-aggenda items unless is that on the agenda? No, I don't think Yeah. Okay. >> Um, so yeah, we'll hit you for that. So if you got anything else you want to talk about agenda wise, you're welcome. >> Um, at the very end, we'll do non-aggenda items. You get, you know, same deal. >> Uh, I'll move number seven, communications. >> Yeah. So, um, a special thank you to all the staff that are giving the building, uh, and the

grounds, custodians, cooks, drivers prepared to welcome students and staff back. Um, next week is our convocation followed by two professional development days and then the third professional development day is September 2nd with us welcoming kids back on the third. Um, and all of this is posted on the back to school section. So very excited to open up school. Um, this this year our theme is stronger together. You know, our story moves forward. So we're excited about all of that. Um we I applied for a tech cred grant of $30,000 um to deepen teachers understanding of artificial intelligence. Um there's going to be a law coming on the pike that we have to have a policy on AI. So let's get some teachers trained on AI now and then as we work through the policy and

so forth. Um so I'm going to apply up to six more times to try to get a lot of teacher development on artificial intelligence through the Ohio Department of Education. Um, so the first AI training is actually September or excuse me, August 26th, one of the PD days, 26th or 27th, um, I can't remember. Um, so continuing with that, um, we also wrote a grant. Mario, myself, and Hassie wrote two safety grants. We just haven't heard. Some of those grants take up to 60 days to to get notified whether you receive the grant or not. So, we're still waiting for that. um with a board policy issue, we have a policy 0131 and that policy is the superintendent is authorized to inform the board of technical correction. So, we don't have to do board reads

as long as I notify the board that we had a technical correction. Well, we did um with Jacqueline in her title is no longer director of special services. So the technical corre correction is in many board policies there's 13 total we had to take special services away and put curriculum coordinator. So that's the technical correction um that we're making on that and then I'll notify Nola to revise all 13 of those policies. Um continuing finally congratulations to Chrissy Pepper of South Range High School. She wrote a grant through the um Autism Society of Mahoning Valley for $300 for like a calming caddy for her classroom for students. Um and she was awarded that. She came in second place. So very very excited that she was able to um get get some resources for her students.

And I believe that's it. If there's any questions. >> I actually have a question. Um the new math books and the new math series, where are they at and how soon are they coming? >> So they're being shipped in in phases. Um I think last Friday grades 3 4 came in. Um Amplify grade 1 2 I think came in on Monday. Um five six I think came in last week. I I can't but they're coming in in stages and so forth. Um we are going to order a couple more because we had some new enrollments. I think I'd like to have like at least 10 additional on the shelves in case. >> So teachers have them. >> They're being unboxed. I don't know if they're delivered. They were I saw the custodian delivering them to

the rooms. I don't know if they're actually in the rooms, but they're definitely in the building with ELA as well. >> Um, so they have all of that because the professional development and is all set up. Everything we ordered, we have professional development as well. >> When's that? >> That is the 26th and the 27th. I don't remember the exact details because we have a lot of curriculum with a lot of PD. Um I I put out an a detailed agenda for each grade level cuz there's so much going on. >> Okay. >> So yeah, that that was all shipped in and the only thing we were waiting for was for special education um a curriculum teach. We were waiting for that link, but I think that material was shipped last week as well. >>

Thank you. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And that's all I have for communications. Any other questions? Uh we'll move down to item eight, the consent agenda. First item is the board meeting minutes from the July 16th regular meeting. There's no corrections, we can move on. So we'll go to financial reports. Uh Mr. Nero. >> Yeah, I just provide the July financials for you guys review. If any questions, let me know. I just want to highlight the with a new budget, they did move the deadlines for the forecast. um they're August 31st and February 28th now. So it's from November in May. So they kind of move the deadlines up a little bit, but for this first year it's August October 15th because it's 90 to 60 or 90 days from when it was signed. Um so

I'll start working on the forecast and we look at approve at the next meeting probably in September because the deadline I think right before October board meeting. So I'll update you guys on that as I go. Um one positive is insurance. They recommended a 1.97% insurance increase but we did some of those contract adjustments, negotiate agreement changes since only 2% which is very good. So the last couple years our rates have been under control for most. We had good claims history too but um definitely help that'll definitely help out the forecast as I work on it. Um we did receive our refund check for the Ohio motor fuel tax. So, we had still have to pay we have to pay tax on the fuel we purchased, but then we can submit a refund. So, we

submitted uh 19 a refund worth of uh 19,861 gallons. So, it's 25 cents per gallon and we got roughly just under $5,000. So, that was good. And then the bus plan is on the agent letter on the agenda. It's just the cash balance conversation is not going away at the state legislator legisl the general assembly. So I was just starting a plan for purches that were going to come up. So um bus planning and we met with Brenda kind of put that plan together next phase um for the bus starting to replace our bus fleet because they are getting older and the conditions are in older shape. So any questions? Uh item C, the then now purchase orders for the four items or four companies listed. >> Yeah, the first one was actually a invoice

from last August. I know you talked with Dean. I mean they did the work but they never they what took us so long to send us invoice but it exceeded the threshold um of the Honey County Board of D. Uh we paid their invoice at the end of June like we asked for all invoices but this was just additional services which I don't know why they didn't include it but again it exceeded the threshold I was able to improve. Um the Cedar Sports I know there's something with the boosters and who was covering what amount. So don't the athletics is picking up. So it's just again I can see the threshold and the invoice was covered. >> So athletics is picking that up then it's not coming out the general fine. >> No athletics. Yeah.

>> And then I excel with transition with um um just principal transition. I mean right position was missed to put that person on. So >> again exceeded the threshold of what I can improve. um with the first order date. So, any questions on the the wings? >> If not, we'll go to item D, the personnel, support staff, and summer help. >> Yeah, this was all throughout the year um for students who might have some needs to participate in some of the extracurriculars. um individuals that that came and and provided some support um as well as closing out the offices with the transitions and so forth um from the middle school to the high school and even the elementary school um with Mrs. A and Jerry. And then continuing um the supplemental contracts with Lynn and

a volunteer, Miss Kitchell um met with me a few weeks ago about volunteering for the middle school to to support our middle school and high school cheerleaders. Item um motion approve the extended day of our new intervention specialist at the middle school. That is a negotiated number of days. Item G is the following certified hires for next year and those are all title. So we received it was late this year. We typically receive information about title early May and then June. Um this year with with the national um departments of education and so forth going on with the president and in the national department of education. We didn't find out till July 6th, 8th, 10th. It was late. Um but we did receive title K8. Um, so we were able to hire um a lot

of support which we're excited about. I know Mr. Mus is very excited to have his people in place and Mrs. Wear um as well at the middle school. Moving forward um classified personnel. So we have a substitute aid and a long-term aid with Mr. Fu and Miss Crossen. So we have um one of our uh staff members got injured. So she's going to be out for a while. Also, Miss Cross's going to sub um for for quite some time. We don't know the exact return date yet, but we know she's going to be out for some time. And we are able to hire a a custodian with Dean's crew with Mr. Bixler. Uh motion to approve the following classified personnel, Mr. Samson, Miss Gorby, and Mr. Heath. For those specifics, u Mrs. Gorby came in

when Joanne um had that injury. She came in and did some office help. um when Mrs. Kane couldn't couldn't do that early in August. Was that late July? Early August. Um continuing um just the the normal annual approve of school fees. We do that every year around this time. And please note that after we had many months of a technology conversation with many different parents and students and just a lot of conversation about it, um the technology fee is included in there. I talked to high school students and they they came and did Chromebook pickup and they were like, "These are nice with the bags and um found out that the boys will drop them and now they can't break them." The girls snitched on the boys. The high school girls were like, "The boys

just drop them." You know, so I got some intel on some of our damaged Chromebooks, but uh now the kids were excited about those new cases. Um they're they're really really nice. Um item K are the breakfast and lunch prices from the nutrition group. That came from and the next item L are volunteer advisor positions for SR Inc. Robotics and Mrs. McMahon with her popcorn. Item M transportation staff in the various um individuals as we were kind of talking about before with different routes. We're also with our um transportation plan looking at occupancy rates of the buses as well. So, you know, if the bus can drive 72, what's the average ADM? What's the average occupancy of that bus? Is it 72 or is it 30? If it's 30, how can we get creative? Maybe

get that up to 60. So, we're also looking at that as part of our facilities plan for for the future, the next five years. Um and then the last one is motion to approve the following certified staff transfers. Mrs. Leebig from a point6 uh physical education teacher to a 1.0 physical education teacher and Mr. Faren um to a teacher on special assignment for next school year. >> Any questions? >> Hold Daniel. >> Oh. Ah, good call. Yeah. [Music] Man, good call. Where is she? She's right there. Okay. >> So, do I pull her out? It's just >> I'll just abstain from >> Okay. Sorry about that. Just I just caught it, too. >> I just caught it. >> All right. Anything else? Uh, just need a motion to approve those consent agenda items. >> Jack

moves. >> I'll second. >> Tyler seconds. All in favor? >> I opposed. >> Mar call. >> Uh, Mr. Gos. >> Yes. Yep. Sorry. >> Tyler Gates. >> Yes. >> Elizabeth Johnson. >> Yes. Terry Low. I'm >> staying. Brian Bagwell. >> Yes. Okay, that motion carries. >> That's okay. I didn't catch it either. >> Uh item nine, the treasurer's regular agenda. We have an item with home care with heart. >> Oh, it's a yearly contract for one student that uh services for. >> We could approve that with a motion. >> I'll move. >> Second. >> Jack moves. >> Elizabeth seconds. All in favor? opposed. That carries the capital maintenance plans is what we talked about creating a fund for the buses so we can start trans. >> Yeah. So essentially we have our fleet which another

motion um Bren is getting rid of one that's no no not even in use but uh we have roughly 23 buses. Um I think five of them are spares and then I'm just starting the phase starting to replace them. Uh on the bus list you can see like the mileage and the year if you want to see what like where our buses are at. Um but yeah that's >> this is just year marking it right. >> Yeah. So the plan is to start replacing bus like one bus a year for the next 15 because we got four of them were we got a bus grand a couple years ago. So we replace four but four of them are pretty new. Um and then we skin on and start. >> Yeah. But but just earmarking it

helps with the current ambiguity in the state legislature. >> Yeah. Right. >> Which we were already doing. We are doing it. It's just making it so >> I'll move. >> Second. >> Tyler moves. Elizabeth seconds. All in favor? >> Opposed. >> That motion carries. Item C, capital projects fund. This is replacing that bus, transferring the money. So start >> down below. It lists all the specifics of it. >> Same thing we just discussed. I'll move. I'll second. >> Elizabeth [Applause] car seconds. All in favor? >> Opposed? >> That motion carries. >> Item D, disposal of the the bus that's no longer in service for basically the same scrap rate we get. >> Yeah, I'll move. >> Tyler moves. >> Second. >> Jack second. All in favor? I >> opposed. That motion carries and that will

take us to item 10, the superintendent regular agenda. Item A is the 2526 gifted procedures. >> Yeah, just our every annual it's annual approve um of the gifted procedures in the plan. Um we'll probably have to do another when the state updates then we have to go back to our plan and update it as well. So we'll probably have to do that in February unless changes don't happen. But they're talking about allowing certain assessments which would mean we have to go through and add to our plan as well. So, this is the initial until we get updates and we'll have to have probably have you guys updated So, um we're very excited to share this service and to provide this starting out probably in the middle school more than some other areas, but it is

a K12 um service that we purchase. So, up to 45 days, we won't be charged. It's whatever days that we use, but we already know the first first month is the person will be here once a week specifically because of parent meetings and some of the other aspects that over summer information has uh has has been provided to us. So, >> any questions? >> Is that Elizabeth? >> Elizabeth moves. >> I'll second. >> Terry seconds. All in favor? I >> opposed. That motion carries. Um item E, the approval of the elementary, middle, and high school handbooks for this coming school year. [Music] >> A second. Tyler moves. >> Jack seconds. >> All in favor? >> I opposed. That motion carries. Actually, I I did not realize and I really appreciate that we're saving money by

not printing out the whole handbook this year and it's like a planner. I I really appreciate that. Which I I didn't realize. So, I'm like, "Yay." >> Yeah. I think >> no one ever looks >> I know. And it's like if I want to see it, I go online anyways. cuz I never grabbed the kids planners with by that time they're all No, I like that we did that. >> Sorry. >> That's okay. Item F is the bus route approval for the school year. Any questions or comments? >> I'll move. >> I'll second. Terry moves. Jack seconds. All in favor? >> Opposed? That motion carries. Item G, motion for the second the second read and adoption for policy 920 employment of classified staff. >> Yeah, I appreciate the board um hearing this out last month

and then this board, you know, voting on this. This provides personal base to our classified aids who work work really really hard. So very excited to collaborate with them throughout the year and to put it in front of you guys. I'll move. >> I'll second. Uh, Elizabeth moves. Tyler seconds. All in favor? >> Opposed? >> That motion carries. Item H, the K squared marketing services. Motion to approve, uh, entering in a contract with K squed marketing. You want to elaborate on what that all includes? >> Yes. So, um, Kqu's currently in eight other districts and many districts hire their own, whether a teacher, whether a stipen or whether it's their own, um, communication specialist. And from social media, marketing to public relations to focusing and sharing on our new programming such as the building trades,

such as the drones. Um, also communication during the times of crisis where over the last three years we've had many just under 10 different situations occur. Um, where communication expert is is needed to communicate. Um, when I'm with the police chief and when other administrators are out, one thing that's super important is getting information out to families and doing it in a legal way and doing it where you're respecting everything. So with everything um that had happened and um just the the plan of communication to share the to to tell our story to share the positive news of what's going on and to focus really on both internal and external communication for 25,000. It's it's a cost savings as compared to hiring a person full-time to do this job. Many local school districts have their

own person and they work like 180 days throughout the school year. So, um we've had we've actually interviewed a couple different um communication specialists and K squared are local and that that makes it even an advantage um where they're actually um residents as well. So, we're pretty excited about having someone who is a resident who's also local, knows the valley versus some of these other communication firms. >> So, what what what actually do they do? They meet with you and >> Yeah. So that they meet with um they're in the district six hours six hours a week and they meet with staff, they meet with principles. Um they do like you know your your newsletter showcases um throughout the week. Um any so as an example, there's a a Monday special and then there's a

Wednesday focus and then there's a Friday focus. um whether it's curriculum, whether it's um certain aspects that's going on in the district. They also do they can do um record videos like celebrating um different aspects that's going on. In a time of crisis, they handle the media in a time of crisis. They can, even though I'm the district spokesman, they prepare all of that information out. um when we're we had a situation I was out of town and I was on the road um trying to put out information on my phone. So I'm trying to give examples of things that they do for 6 hours they're in district per week. Um I have some other notes in here. So, crisis management, distribute press releases, district communications, content for the website and the um and social

media um video production, photography. Um they write outlets for the for the local media. So, they'll they have contacts with the local media where they um call and say, "Hey, here's what's going on at South Range. Run this story." >> So, the teachers can reach out to you and then they could say, "Hey, could you get the news in here?" The teachers actually will reach out to this. Yeah. >> Yeah. And they actually um will go in and like, "Hey, when's your planning time? Come on in. Let me do this story." So, the teachers just have to get the idea and then they run it and run the story from there. Um three posts per week, graphic design, and then newsletter management, annual reports. So, I do this right now and they they would take

this over um and make it way more professional um than I'm not saying mine's not, but I'm not a media expert at by no means. >> Now, on the media communications, you would approve anything. >> Okay. Yeah, that's and the good thing is like I know of a local district that they're they're currently working cuz I I talked to of the eight I talked to before um start >> um and really in a time of a crisis the immediate the hour after I mean there's all of this followup because you want to keep people in communication of what's going on and so forth but there's a fine line to balance you know and they are like rave great reviews from people who had to utilize ize their services during a time of crisis. So, um

yeah, you know, with one of our goals being communication and collaboration, um I thought that, you know, for that price and where we're pivoting with workforce development, some of the programming and some of the features that we're moving towards, I thought that this was um a really good investment for the students and to tell our story for the staff. Was there in the discussions with them, was there any room for changes in their contract for negotiations as far as pricing or timing of pricing? Uh cuz what I looked at was it's a flat rate each month starting up front right off the bat. So like if somebody wants to push product, why not demonstrate a grace period where they have to demonst we get to see what the value offers before essentially ending up and

paying out, right? So back half it, load it in the end, however they want to do it, but it just looked like a flat rate right away. >> So we talked about that on the phone and she actually said there is a grace period cuz typically they're already in schools, you know, they're they're in by June and then usually they organize everything in July to hit the ground running in August. So with us starting after September now, she was like there is a grace period, but we didn't necessarily talk about that flat like what you're talking about. >> Yeah. So like to I'll just use an example of my my work. So like somebody wants to bring a new robot into the hospital. Well, we get so much time or you're not you're not purchasing

it up front. Okay? You essentially get to you get to use it to demonstrate meaningful use of the product to show value with it first and then you start discussing what happens after that for purchases or price per use or whatever it is. So in this case, like this all sounds great, but it's just like we are paying for something before we see what it's demonstrating in a value for us. And these are all hypotheticals, good hypotheticals, but still >> not not in concrete yet for us. >> And I think just um to give you an answer, I think it's a it's a set contract because also they they run a business as well. So >> no, if I was sitting on the other side of the table, that's exactly what I would do. And

the second comment I was going to make on the contract I read and again I'd do it if I was them too. The uh indemnification clause >> I was not crazy about how that read. So I understand if you're approving everything that technically we are assuming responsibility. But if they're still putting out information without you having the ability to prove it technically the way that reads is we're still assuming all legal responsibility for any information that comes out from a third party. >> Right. Right. And that's pretty that's pretty standard. The other company that we interviewed as well, um, they had that in there. Um, I'm I'm very comfortable with some of their their product. Um, I'm very comfortable in the communication I've had with them throughout this process. We started having this conversation. >>

Yeah. Andification clauses are standard in many things. I see them for product development all the time, but I usually decline them because if I'm signing it, I'm signing under false pretense because I can't cover the cost if there's an issue, >> right? >> So, like, is there a threshold? Is there a set dollar amount that we're built into that clause? I didn't see that in there either. >> Piggy backing I I talk quietly piggy like we have Megan look at it >> to table the contract and have Megan look at it and we can always come up with it. >> I'm not saying we have to table it. I'm just saying that those are things I saw that I was not crazy about. >> Um, >> what do you think? >> So, it is a

one year, no commitment after if we decide whatever, right? So 12 months committed and then um what I will say though too is that we've all sat up here through you know times of you know where it's been tough and the one thing we continuously hear is communication communication communication and if you're saying that you've done the research you've looked at you've gotten other references is from other schools that have used this this company and it's something that's they think could benefit us. I think that's a step in the right direction to listen to the community and saying, "Hey, listen, like we're trying to get better at this." >> Mhm. >> And I mean, >> I agree with that cuz if we if we postpone the vote, >> we're going to be into September. >>

Yeah. >> So, we're missing the miss an opportunity to push all this stuff out for the beginning of the year, too. And it's not that you're not doing a good job putting stuff on Facebook, but there's tricks and ways to get people to actually see it. I don't think a lot of our stuff we're putting out there is being seen because we're not hitting their algorithm the way it needs to. And that's why people pay people like this. >> I've never worked with a superintendent that's done that like nor any of my friends that are superintendent. They're like, "No, we don't do that." Could we just go ahead and vote on the um contingency then just as long as Megan looks at it and is okay with it? >> Would that be okay? >> I

have a call with her tomorrow at 8 anyways. I could bring that up. Yeah. I mean >> I mean if she thinks it's okay then >> yeah I that's >> just have a I mean cuz would it be in a legal contract? >> So So vote with the understanding that it has to meet >> her approval. We can't vote on this motion with that assumption. We'd have to change the motion. >> Well, can >> Right. >> Yeah. >> If she has a problem, can we call a meeting to uh uh if you know to basically terminate the contract if she has a problem? >> As long as we don't have any services. Yeah. And we haven't used them at all. >> I mean, you have a call tomorrow. So, so what I'm saying if you

have a an issue or if she sees something to Jack's point of any clauses or issues, then maybe we just have a meeting next week and say no. But I mean, >> as long as you guys don't sign it, doesn't bind us yet. >> Okay. >> I mean, I guess if this was a concern that people had, it should have been addressed before tonight's meeting so we could have checked on this stuff, right? Because you know, everybody had this information. >> Yeah, I did. >> For how many weeks? >> Yeah. But I do got a call tomorrow and I'm very confident in the conversations that I've had with this company that they would be responsive. Like they would they would get us an answer like yes, no problem or you know if something if there

was a concern with the contract. Um I'm I'm very confident in how responsible they are. >> No, I'm just trying to think from a legal standpoint of what we're going to approve or not approve tonight or amend. I don't know how to do that to make it so we could approve it and then get out of it. Well, we would approve we would run it by Megan like Mario said as long as I don't use a service and we don't sign the contract. So that's this motion is approving their services. Um we technically we could go back and if both part it's like anou both parties agree to if any changes are needed then we just signed off on them and they would have the sign the final say. I I don't think that you're

going to find anything personally because of the you know we've been in contact about it before and all the research and the you know references and stuff like that. I I >> I mean but you could just mention it tomorrow. >> Okay. >> I'm looking at it now. I said we don't sign it then resend it when need. >> So you're saying we could board approve it but then ultimately the person needs to sign the contract is Jared. >> Yeah. >> If he talks to Megan, she has concerns then you just sign the contract. >> Yeah. in the next meeting. Okay. [Applause] All right. So, we're going to work basically on that assumption that if everything comes back clear, you're good and Megan's good or whichever attorney you're going to put in front of, then

the board has already approved it, giving you the power to sign the contract, right? >> Yeah, that's how everybody think that sounds correct, right? >> Yeah. We need to vote on it, though. >> Yeah, we need to vote. I'm just making sure everybody understands what we're exactly we're voting on. >> Yeah. And the only thing too because looking at it, I mean, Jack brought up some good >> I don't know marketing. >> I should have >> done that sooner, but I just I got to when I got I got to when I got to it. Yeah. And then this thought this was the time to to discuss the things that came up. >> No, my thoughts on it. >> Yeah. >> All right. All right. So, I guess if we're going to work on that

assumption, you're going to talk to Megan or Kevin, whoever you talk to tomorrow. >> Yeah. >> I have a call at 8 a.m. anyway, so I'll be able to >> So, we'll if this motion were to be approved, then everything's clear, then it's going to go forward. They'll start right away. >> Yep. >> All right. I just want to make sure everybody's clear on what what exactly is getting voted on. So, >> absolutely. >> There's no hard feelings afterwards. >> No. >> All right. So with that, we just need a motion for the approval. I'll move. Uh Tyler moves. I will second. All in favor? Opposed? Opposed? Uh Mr. New York, you call the roll. [Applause] Uh Tyler Bates. >> Yeah. >> Ran Bagwell. >> Yes. >> Jack Dawson, >> no. Terry Lai. >> Yes.

>> Was the Johnson? >> Yes. >> Okay. With that, the motion will carry. >> Uh item I moving on to the memorandum theou between the uh union and the SR BOE. >> Yeah, that's elaborate. >> Yeah, that is for the teacher on special assignment for the duration of the negotiated agreement. Second questions. Nope. Uh Tyler moves. Jack seconds. Oops, I checked the wrong box. >> All in favor? >> Opposed? That motion carries. Theou for the extended days for the high school family consumer sciences. >> Yeah. So, working with the S sur again, um some of the work for that position um was about 5 days. So, we we met and had some great conversations and thisou is um providing those 5 days of extended time for that position. >> I'll move. >> I'll second. >>

Elizabeth moves. Terry seconds. All in favor? >> I >> opposed. That motion carries. Um item 11 is the public participation for non non-aggenda items. So this would be your opportunity. Um we just asked give us your name and uh you have two minutes. >> Yeah. I'm Scott B. We have uh some parents that met last last month before your prior or before your meeting. Uh kind of recognizing a need for an equipment upgrade in the weight room that's used by all the middle school, high school. We've seen more basketball kids in there than I've ever seen. baseball's use utilizing this a lot more. So, we're just kind of like kicking off the idea that uh there's some there's some need there. Uh there's equipment is old. We got dumbbells that are losing propers. You got

benches that are getting kicked around and stuff. So, um kind of as a novice, I just wanted to get this in front of you guys and say, you know, it's something that we're uh taking getting bids on. um this particular sorex is kind of like the uh 1a of of in the industry. So um but we're looking to source things between locally and some of these larger national companies. Um but it's a especially with some smaller or larger classes coming up into the age group where this is this gets used some of the additional equipment is is needed. Um, >> so that's >> this past winter. I mean, I was my kid, my youngest was active in the uh winter weight program and it was it was really an exceptional year. Every other year I

felt like we had to supplement. You know, you got to send your kid to Troy Parks or whatever to really get your get the most out of it. I thought this year the kids did great, the coaches did great. They're just that next pinch point is is equipment. So again, just informational and uh when I get in front of you, I can email I can email whatever you guys. >> So the group of parents are raising money to replace the equipment. >> Yeah, just kind of like starting that kickoff, you know, like uh let's see what this is going to cost, how we going to get there. Um does that need staged? You know, is it's a it's as you can imagine, it's probably a big number, you know. Um it is a big number.

Um it it is it does this make sense to phase things with um with you know flooring first then racks then dumbbells whatever it is you know >> and you're working with the coaches also. >> Yeah. >> Do you need that back or is that for you want that? >> No. No you can have that. >> And I have I have a ton of stuff digitally. We we've gotten two very reputable quotes and we're kind of value engineering that right now. Trying to get something that's a little more palatable. >> Thank you. It looks like you could run 40 times in there with that. >> Well, I'm trying to improve it. >> Yeah. >> Slide it in front of the two doors, you can open it up then. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's

when you look when you look across the state, there's there's plenty of great great schools that have it. And I think that, you know, our kids deserve it as well, you know. >> Thank you. You're back. >> Do you have anything you like >> me? >> You're the only one here. >> Sure. >> I don't think so. You want me to say something? >> I can't think of anything. >> That's fine. Just want to make sure you have an opportunity. >> What do you mean for? >> No, I'm looking at you cuz I'm wondering if I do, but I don't think I do. Am I supposed to? >> No. Making sure. There's only two people in here. I can call you for a couple moments. You guys haven't bored me. I know you >> saw

me. >> We had other people to keep us company. No good. Are they as pleasant as me? >> No. Nobody's as pleasant as you. >> Maybe Rich is close second, but he tonight >> I don't know. >> Um, okay. Other matters. So, first item, the next regularly scheduled board meeting September 17th. Does anybody have a conflict of schedule there? Then the other item uh in other matters I think you probably all got the email with the link to view. So we're talking about the >> our new friend the owl here. >> Um Dr. Pullman's going to try to see if he can steal it from the ESC every month because it's a $3,200 price tag. >> It's very pricey. And we were talking today about we need a computer too because actually this computer needs

to go back to the classroom. So, it's it's getting more pricey, but >> I think it's something >> we're This is good. We're We're testing it, right? So, it froze tonight. It picked up all the audio, but it did freeze. So, it's it's for that price tag. Would we need to >> Yeah, it sounds like they need to do a reduction for possible errors. >> Yeah. >> Computers. The image froze. It locked up. I don't know if anyone caught it, but it hooted earlier and that's when it froze. So I heard it. >> Yeah. So I I unplugged it, plugged it back in. It picked up audio, but the the image is frozen. So it's going to be like watching an old Bruce Lee movie. No moving, but you'll hear the audio. We did get

word from legal that there's a case out in the federal courts about closed captioning. So anything that's streamed for a public purpose that it's very it's not yet. So is that something that in the future if in a panic we're like oh no now we have to provide cannot provide closed caption. So what it's doing is this is streaming to YouTube. >> So it's an unp it's unpublished link but everything in YouTube can be closed captioning can be turned on YouTube >> and when we played it back that the last month's meeting was fine. I mean everything came out. >> So >> that was and I shared that link with everybody that >> did you try to click on like to turn on the closed captions? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> That it looked like

it kept up with us. >> Yeah. >> I didn't check that. Yeah, >> I sell expensive audio video for a living and if it doesn't work right the first time, it's expensive. >> That's how you know it's quality. >> But it doesn't work right the first time. >> You sell these? >> No, I could get those. >> Oh, >> at a discounted rate. >> I know. On a truck. >> Wholesale rate? Yeah. Like >> Yeah, I'm sure I could. >> There you go. Here's the person you need to talk to. No, >> cuz it was what? 32 plus the tripod. >> You want to talk to me some more? >> Sure. Is there a specific computer that you would >> I don't know. I don't know if I don't sell these. I don't know these.

It's just as a general rule, expensive stuff doesn't work coming out of the box. >> Okay. >> It's just a joke. >> Yeah, >> it's true. >> Is it true? >> Why >> things don't work out of the box when they're expensive? >> I mean, >> you pros. It's It's a computer. It's a computer. Computers freeze. I mean, >> so we can get we can get the link. I can send that link out to you so we can review that and see where it froze. I guess >> this one. >> Yeah. Right. Cuz you're recording it, >> right? And I don't know if it's following audio since it froze either. I mean, I'm capturing audio. I can pl I can clearly see that here, but I don't know if it's following audio. So, >> was

your figure out what happened? >> Turn around and look at you if it was. >> Yeah. I mean, that's what I'm saying. It was like a private. >> It was a private. >> I'm not having >> No, it's not. >> So, only those that have the link can see it, >> but that was the problem they had with >> Yeah. Um, anybody have anything else for other items? >> Um, actually, I think Jared um I know you and I discuss um about decisions. I know we had an incident this past week dealing with um a different group and that were putting some new guidelines for spectators and parents. Um I and we talked about possibly because we didn't know it happened and we're getting telephone calls. So if we could maybe like with the principles

and the administration if there's decision made that the board should be notified about we need to start doing that because for us to get calls and not what's going on it kind of blindsides us. >> Yeah. And I I talked to >> I know you were blindside too. >> Yeah. And um he just said that they spoke Monday and then this really came from the coach. So then the coach um informed his players yesterday which is you know when all through I think through her mind. Um so I think I said hey in the future you know we we need a little bit of time to have some discussions on the who what when where house cuz we were all finding out really late on this decision that was already made. So, um yeah, I

I agree and the conversation went really well, but I think um you know the this some of the concerns that even in that phone call that wasn't really shared with me and I said so that's why we wanted this ahead of time so we can communicate the why and then the decision can be made but some of those um safety concerns some of the other pieces where um what they can and can't do you know those were discussed but not shared with parents. So, >> um I think um I'm I'm better off like like you finding out a couple hours ago about the situation. Um, but I I think you know it's probably good to enforce what our conference is recommending as well because that's a conference rule that we just weren't you know >>

but I think I think a lot of parents were um from what I gathered were upset that we're using the incident that happened on Saturday when they're not really affiliated with our school how we're setting the guidelines where it should have been approached more you know this is our conference rule this this is what the coach and I would like to do. >> So we come straight forward with that. >> And also um there was an incident at the scrimmage. >> Okay, better >> with our high school when Mog. So >> I didn't know that until earlier. You know, like I said, it was a lot of stuff we were finding out when that they already made that decision. So I just said, you know, hey, moving forward, let's have a pow-wow. Let's get all

the facts out. Let's kind of be on the same page, communicate, collaborate, right? And and then I can definitely fill you guys in. So the person was really receptive with that and I think they just wanted to you know get after >> Oh definitely definitely but I I think if we would have >> been a little bit like >> more not really upfront but more communication as opposed to this is why we're doing it for the safety and everything for the teams >> 100%. >> And give options to the parents instead of hearing it secondhand for the kids. >> Thank you. >> All right. Thank you so much. That's it. >> Anything else? Okay, with that we just need a motion for adjournment. >> I'll move second. >> Tyler moves. >> Uh Elizabeth >> Elizabeth

seconds. All in favor? I >> opposed. 655. >> 655. We'll do the journal time.
