Ready? Ready, Freddy? All right. I would Excuse me. Good evening. I would like to call the Springfield School Board meeting for Wednesday, May 20, 2026 to order. Mr. Adams. Mrs. Forlaw. Yes. Mr. Lance. Here. Mr. Hofer. Here. Mrs. Warner. Here. All right. A motion passed. Would you please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. At this time, uh Mrs. Warner will present the high school and junior high students of the month. So, I have students of the month for both April and May. And um both of our students are here, so we're going to have Crystal come up first. This is Crystal Aguirre.

And um this is what Crystal's teacher wrote about her. You can come up here by me. >> [laughter] >> You're going to be on the Springfield channel. Crystal's a model Spartan. She follows the Spartan standards every day. She works hard, she asks questions, and is helpful and always kind. Crystal not only works hard academically, but she's involved in many extracurricular activities. Crystal makes a point to say hello or to ask how my weekend was. Her hardworking, caring, and kind spirit makes her a great candidate for student of the month, and she was nominated by Mrs. Gray. >> [applause] >> And then I'll have Patricia Ann join me. Thank you. Patricia This is Patricia Ann Logsdon, and this is what was written about Patricia. Patricia Ann is doing an amazing job being a classroom leader this

year. She is always eager to help a classmate who is struggling with a problem. Patricia Ann also has improved her i-Ready baseline score since the beginning of the year. Patricia Ann is a valued member of the classroom and has shown amazing growth and kindness, and she was nominated by Mr. Garber. >> [applause] >> Congratulations. Next, uh, Mr. Burns. Schrock. Uh, students of the month. Alexis McBride. This is from Mrs. DeLauro and Mrs. Floyd. Alexa is a truly exceptional student whose hardworking and conscientious nature shine through in everything she does. She consistently demonstrates kindness, helpfulness, and respect towards both her peers and teachers, creating a positive impact on those around her. Alexis' positive attitude and strong character make her an outstanding role model for others. Through her actions, dedication, willingness to help, she sets a wonderful

example of leadership, responsibility, and compassion each day. >> [applause] >> Mrs. Justice and Mrs. Johnson did Skyler Mealing. Hope I said that right. I got one more year, right? Okay. Skyler is an excellent choice for student of the month of April and May. He consistently demonstrates strong character as a quiet, well-mannered young man who treats both peers and teachers with respect. Skyler carries himself with a positive attitude each day, contributing to a welcoming and supportive classroom environment. He is dedicated to his studies, maintaining excellent grades, and continually works hard to earn top marks in all his classes. Beyond his achievements, Skyler is pleasant and kind, making him a valued member of our school community. His commitment to doing his best and his respective nature set a great example for others. We are truly glad to

have been part a part of his educational journey. Skyler, congratulations. >> [applause] >> Thank you. Congratulations to Alexis and Skyler. Good evening everybody. Tonight we have Miss Burgess and Miss Meeker here to present their students. First we're going to have Miss Burgess come up here with Josh Colgrove. >> [clears throat] >> Chris can't hear you. You want to sit up there? Here we go. >> [laughter] >> Today I have a very special honor of talking about one of our amazing kindergarten students, Joshua Colegrove, who we all call Junior. He has been chosen as the May student of the month. Being student of the month is not only being smart in class, it means showing kindness, working hard, listening, helping others, and always trying our best. Junior has shown all of these qualities every single day.

From the moment he walks in the classroom, he brings a smile, positive energy, caring attitude, and is always excited to learn new things. He is never afraid to ask questions, and he always tries something that is challenging. Even when something's difficult, he never gives up. What makes Junior truly special is the way he always treats others. He is a kind friend to classmates, he shares, he helps others when needed, and makes our classroom a happier place. He shows respect to teachers and classmates, and always tries his best to do the right thing. Junior also sets a great example by following directions, using good manners, and showing responsibility. Whether Whether it is cleaning up, participating in lessons, or encouraging friends, he shows what it means to be a great kindergarten student. I am proud of all

the growth that Junior has made this year. Not only academically, but he is also kind and a thoughtful person. His hard work and positive attitude inspire everyone around him. So today, we celebrate Junior and all of his accomplish accomplishments. Keep shining, keep learning, and keep being the amazing person you are. Please help me by congratulating Junior. >> [applause] >> Let's take a picture today. Oh. Thank you. This one's for you. Thank you. >> I am so happy to be here tonight to honor Macy Stewart as student of the month. Macy exemplifies everything a Spartan should strive to become. She comes to school each day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Her positivity can be seen from the way she is excited to learn and quickly initiates work in class to how

she cheers on her classmates when they succeed. Macy is also an active participant in class and is always eager to share what she knows. She also has a growth mindset that accepts constructive criticism and uses feedback to improve her work, whether it be in writing a paragraph or working on a three-digit math problem. Another way Macy shines is how she keeps our classroom organized from helping to take the lunch count to delivering messages to the office. Lastly, I know Macy and her family are particularly proud of her work with Mrs. Smith, our speech pathologist, and her accomplishment of graduating from the speech program this year. For all these reasons, Macy is very deserving of this award and I wish her all the best in her future education at Springfield Local Schools. >> [applause] >> Congratulations

Macy and Josh. Macy Nice. Awesome. What you going to do? If If you guys want to leave, you can leave. If you don't want to stay for the meeting, I mean, it's a beautiful meeting. Please. Please. We will not be offended at all. At all. Okay. Thank you for coming. Thank you for coming. He's pushing 80, I think. Yeah. Bob is a big guy. Big guy. Yes. Yes. Very prominent. Did very well. Oh, yeah. For sure. He was big in the 70s for some reason. Like he's like a big LeBron person. I saw her address when we were driving in my vehicle. Talking to my sister. You thought about the church, yeah. And that's how I just looked at home. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And our next item is board member's informal and I

know I started the last time. I'm going to do it again because Saturday was an amazing day for me. Uh I went to I I was able to spend I didn't have anything else scheduled, so I was able to spend the day at the art and music uh festival and I can't tell you how impressed I was with the teachers, with the students, with the number of people who came to support the teachers and students. Uh the auditorium has been I spent a lot of years in that building and I don't think I've ever seen a performance where or an event where there was standing room only. It was It was wonderful. And to top it off, Elvis was in the building uh the end of the day. So, uh I But I'd like Ashley

and Jared we and uh to uh come up and tell us a little bit about how you put it together and what you did. I know you weren't supposed to, but you know all the work that went into this is just amazing. So, around this time last year, my good friend Tim that I graduated from high school with, he was working at the Indiana bar at the time and he contacted me and said, "Hey, um what are some ideas of songs that I could recommend band directors program if they are putting together a themed concert for the 250?" And [snorts] so, I started brainstorming and I came up a list of songs and he specifically was looking for ones that were not necessarily overtly patriotic, but ones that represented America as a whole. So, I

started thinking about those songs that could be programmed and I was like, "Well, there's why can't we we should do a 250 program since I've already brainstormed all these songs." And I'm not generally a person who stops with one little idea. I needed to be bigger and better. So, I was like, "Well, what if we turn this into a whole fine arts festival?" And so, I start I put a proposal together over the summer and presented it to Mrs. Meadows and I had her support um from the district level to go ahead and proceed with this. And then, I was able to secure a grant from the Jack Miller Center for Ohio. I won the Teach America 250 grant for the state of Ohio. So, then we had funding to do this and I was

able with the grant money, we were able to purchase new music for the bands, the choirs, and we were able to purchase music for the elementary school, as well as art supplies for the all of all levels K-12 for their art supplies to help facilitate the production of these pieces. And I'm incredibly grateful because we had an amazing team that worked together to put this all together. We had um all of of district fine arts uh team. Every single person participated. We had K through 12 art and we had 2 through 12 music. So, it was it was a great celebration and I was very pleased with the turnout. So, And the audience was impressed. And um because it's been a while since I've seen something. I'm glad you mentioned the art. We We invited

the art uh the art was uh anything from the stained glass windows to the uh pottery to the uh it was it was really good. And I you know, I'm still working on how to draw a stick figure, so I can't get to that, but uh I'm going to go do one more thing. I want to thank uh our superintendent and our curriculum director for ex- working to expand art and music down into the elementary grades. It's been a while since we've had um strong programs in It makes a difference to us at the high school when they get a better start, too. So, thank you. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. time, but I thought it was worth it. It was it was Thank you so much. >> [applause]

>> Of course, they did. I was going to continue with that. Uh Saturday was was awesome. Uh Kudos to the women's choir when I I sat and listened to them them play and I used to play violin way way way way back in So, I I could hear tones quite readily. And then the music be you didn't work very well with those students. Kudos. Very well done. Uh the artwork was uh fabulous. Uh we have some extremely talented students uh with artwork and imaginations of how to design artwork and put it up on stained glass. That was that was fairly new to me on not to stained glass is new, but how they put it up and had the grade schoolers do that. I walked around the whole venue and looked at things and it's

like we have some very talented talented students. Uh so thank you very much for putting that together. It's it's nice that you can we can celebrate that on the founding of our country's freedoms and what that bestows to us. I'll have an update in uh Oh and all one second. And And you were able to bring in Who was our keynote speaker? Yeah. So that was that was really exciting to have her come back and be a Spartan. Yes. So thank you for that. Yeah, I'll have an update next month. Columbus [clears throat] is crazy. There is tons of bills, Senate bills, and House bills. We'll see how that all turns out. Uh one one of one that I picked up is very interesting, which I would like to see this happen in Washington, D.C.

It's what they call zero-based uh calculations for for budgets. Every 10 years they go back and look at everything started at zero base and move forward. I would certainly like to get rid of our $39 trillion debt, but we'll see. Good luck. Uh I unfortunately did not get to 10 Saturday. I had prior commitments, but I saw tons of videos and pictures online on online and again, the artwork just amazing. The The some of the videos of the of the band, some of their songs and performance. It It was good. I wish I could have been there. Um speaking of talented students, I was able from a two-person seat attend the senior awards Monday morning and unbelievable the tens of thousands of dollars of scholarships that these kids I don't want to say were given,

they earned it. They They did. My daughter included. She was one I was I was very proud um watching her and and all her friends and all the students just one after another just being called up for $1,000 here, $3,000 there, 250 $250. I mean that probably doesn't buy as much as it did when I was in school uh for books. I don't even know if they have books anymore at college, but uh it was truly impressive. There were athletic awards, there was an athletic scholarship from the MAC. Like it was just across the board amazing to see these kids go out there. Uh I know I think last week we talked about the top 25. Again, just amazing students, amazing awards that they've gone out and earned and congratulations to all them and next

Friday's going to be even more bittersweet for me as my daughter gets to walk across the stage, but uh pre-congratulations to all them for next Friday as well and it's just it's amazing to see what they've done and what what they're going to do down the road. Mhm. Me? Yeah. Um Ashley, you're a rock star. I mean that that's great. You touched um every student in the district by you know putting in the time into putting something like this together. Um unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but same I saw so many videos and pictures and um I'm sure that took a lot of time and effort. I know you had a team helping you, but I just think um that's great. You you did that for all of our students and you know,

I think that they all have talents and it's shown, you know, and everybody enjoyed you know, participating and being there and seeing um you know, the musics and the arts and everything that you put on, that's great. And you took the time to to do that. So, I appreciate you going above and beyond doing that. Um it is it's an exciting time of the year at the school year, like I said, graduation, um preschool prom was today. I know there's Cedar Point, you know, so a lot of things going on all at one time. So, I think it's um you know, it's a fun time of >> Preschool prom? Preschool prom. I have pictures of She was on my phone. >> [laughter] >> Yes, we did. An hour and a half of preschoolers in the

gym twice. Twice. Twice? Dancing. Oh, it was it was and they were dressed I mean they I mean they came dressed for so cute. Tough mom and dads came in formals. It was impressive. Yeah, wow. So. Very good. Yeah, so it was it was it was really adorable today. I want to back up with two. Mary Taylor was here Saturday and um I I just want to mention that when the post it was post secondary at that time, not college credit class, but they changed the name. But when post secondary curriculum offerings, classes, distance learning labs started in the old high school, it was because of Mary Taylor's support from Columbus, she was able to help us um get the funding and uh it she was kind of the mother of the program at Springfield.

So, I wanted to at least recognize that. >> And and and I think too, you know, one of the greatest things was um and I don't know if it's happened that all the teachers K-12, the art teachers, the music you guys work together and really got to have some good conversations and I'm looking forward to more I mean I know that talking to them they don't want to collaborate with each other to make sure that we're building on the skills so by the time they do get to the high school it's just amazing. So if anything that that that helped solidify that we're starting that process. So thank you. >> them rest a little bit before we ask them to do another >> going to do one in I want one in August. I want

one in August. All right. That's it. Thank you. Um at this time the citizens comments on agenda items are welcome at this time. Participants are asked asked to come to the podium, give your name, address and about a 5-minute any citizens comments. No? All right. Let's go to number nine. It is recommended that the board approve payment of bills for the month of April pending audit. And those were presented in exhibit one. So moved. Second. Moved and seconded, Mr. Adams. Mrs. Warner? Yes. >> [clears throat] >> Mrs. Ferola? Yes. Mr. Lance? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Motion passed. Number 10, payment of bills then and now. It is recommended that the board approve a resolution for payment of the bills for Ohio Revised Code Section 5705.41 and those were presented in exhibit two. So moved. Second.

Moved and seconded, Mr. Adams. Mr. Lance? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Mrs. Warner? Yes. Mrs. Ferola? Yes. Motion passed. It >> [clears throat] >> Excuse me. In number 11, it is recommended that the board accept the financial reports from the treasurer for April 2026 as presented to us in exhibits or to the agenda to exhibits three and four. So moved. Second. Moved and second, Mr. Adams. Hang on. Oh, sorry. It's okay. Uh Chris, would you explain a little bit on we are approximately 15, 16 years into the new building since the bond issue was passed in 2010. That's correct. >> So, our maintenance fund does not run concurrent for the whole bond issue. >> It does not. So, um I just want to make the board aware of that. Um and there's plans as there's plenty

of funds in there. But that building life was that runs that bond issue runs for 40 years. If I I remember correctly, the maintenance fund only runs 28. That's correct. >> So, there'll be a time in near future that the new treasurer and the board will have to sit down and figure out a way to to come up with a plan, okay? Obviously, the PI can't support that K-12 building, okay? So, it has to be either a yearly transfer or something else because it it does it has a million dollars in there. But God forbid the roof goes to, you know, hell in a handbasket. I mean, boom, gone, you know. It sounds like a lot of money, but that's a big building. Cuz Dustin, you know, he could So, yeah. Just wanted to bring

it to the our attention. >> mentioning that. That's good. Thank you. And we have plenty of time to do that and it's not we're not up against the wall, but we have plenty of time to look at how we're going to invest and grow that. Correct. >> Thank you. Where we at? We're going to vote. For 11. Oh. This is for 11. Right. This is for Yes. Mr. Adams. Yes. Mr. Hofer. Yes. Mrs. Warner. Yes. >> [clears throat] >> Motion passed. We now move to personnel. It is recommended that the board accept or approve the following personnel items. 12.1 is employment. They employ the following classified person employees per the negotiated agreement pending proper licensure and pre-employment screening. And that would be Terry Redmond, Crystal Simmons, Brittany Carson, and Michael Ewing. Uh 12.2 employment. Employ

Nicholas Hill as a 100% teacher per the negotiated agreement pending proper licensure and pre-employment screening effective the 26-27 school year. 12.3. Accept the retirement resignation of classified employee Kathy Grubbs effective July 1, 2026. Uh personnel 13.1. I I accidentally went to 12 first. I'm sorry. That's 12. Let's vote on this one first. Oh. That's the 12. Oh, these are Right. 12. Okay. Sorry. That's okay. I was I looked at that. All right. Mr. Adams, we need a motion. So moved. Second. Um all right. Anyone I would love to take a moment to introduce you all to Mr. Nicholas Hill. Um Mr. Nicholas Hill is joining us after student teaching at Jackson uh Middle School for sixth grade English language arts. He's going to be in sixth grade language arts for us also. He was also

in You were in social studies also, correct? >> Yes. Okay. Um he says ma'am a lot also. He is a southern type of raised boy and Military army. Army, right? Yes, yes. Um, in his free time, uh, Nicholas likes to substitute teach. Crazy boy. Uh, he has been a special needs caretaker uh, of of um, disabled for disability services and he's also been a camp counselor in the past. Um, when he really does have free time, he's actually working at the Crush House down on the Geraci property. Uh, so he's very busy, but he's really excited to be joining us here at Springfield. Um, he is replacing um, he's he's replacing This is so crazy. He's replacing Kelly Yakabucci. Kelly Yakabucci is moving into Susan Elliott's spot because she is retiring and then he is

going to take over that language arts program there. Awesome. Welcome. Welcome. Nice to meet everyone. Um, my name is Mr. Hill or Nicholas Hill. I graduated from Kennett Square. I just want to say I'm very grateful for the opportunity to be a first year teacher at Springfield. Super excited and also incredibly nervous because it's my first year teaching. I'm really excited to get the classroom decorated however that goes. So, I just want to say thank you guys. I really appreciate it and um, it's an honor. Thank you. We're happy to have you. Welcome. >> Congrats. Congrats. Welcome, Nicholas. Um, we're excited, too. Um, Kathy Grubbs, uh, we got her retirement. That was um, something for you know, personal that she felt that she needed to do. Um, Kathy was first hired as a monitor in

November of 1987. Um, and she was employed as a building secretary for Spring Hill from the '93-'94 school year before moving into her current position as the EMIS coordinator at the administration building. Um, and she did that in 2000-2001. So, she's been in that position for about 24 years. You know, EMIS is such an important part of a school because that takes care of all the funding. And she is very meticulous in making sure that all her reports are done on time, making sure that we have everything that we need to get as much funding as we can. She's also has taken over open enrollment and residency and she has really with her due diligence has saved the district you know, money here and there going, you know, making sure that kids that are supposed

to be here are here, kids that are getting what they need to be here. And she's going to be definitely missed. She's a wealth of knowledge. A wealth of knowledge. A wealth of knowledge. And and not just for Springfield, but she's she's been doing EMIS for so long that other EMIS directors from Summit County call her to ask for for help. So, She was a good building principal, too. I was a teacher. Okay, that It's Springfield. Oh, she was the secretary? She was very supportive. She is she is she's truly an amazing she's going to she's definitely going to be missed. I tend to have a thick skin. Definitely be missed. That's it for those? Renee? Mrs. Frola? Yes. Mr. Lance? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Mrs. Warner? Yes. Motion passed. Now I'll get it right

here. All right, moving 30 to 13 which is personnel two. Well, we got Marilyn Uh 13.1 uh the following and they're listed. I'm not going to read the whole the entire list, but these are athletic supplemental contracts. Uh approve the following athletic supplemental contracts for the 2026-2027 school year for the negotiated agreement pending proper licensure and pre-pre-employment screening. And again, they're they're listed up there right here. All right, 13.2 unpaid leave of absence, approving intermittent unpaid leave of absence for classified employee Holly Murphy beginning May 5th through the end of the 25-26 school year. 13.3 reassign classified employee Darren Hurst as an 8-hour bus mechanic per the negotiated agreement pending proper licensure effective May 1, 2026. 13.4 Summit County ESC employment contract renewals approve the renewal of the employment contracts for the 26-27 school year

for the following technology support personnel: Tyler Shafer, techno- technician coordinator; James Thomas, technical support specialist; and Dustin Henshaw, IT technician. So moved. >> for a second. Um for moving Darren Hurst up to an 8-hour, um that's on the heels of an agreement that we passed last month to um share services with Mogadore for mechanic bus mechanical services there. Um so we've gotten Darren moved up to an 8-hour. He was a part-time mechanic and part-time driver. Um so that goes back to the previous where we hired another driver there to fill the driving driving role there and bring Darren up to the 8-hour mechanic to serve that role. So we've uh been doing that for a couple weeks now and been you know doing some preventive maintenance and getting buses ready for inspections, and going well

so far. And then, of course, um you know, bringing back our three IT guys because I mean, I'm sure you see Tyler. He's everywhere. He's everywhere all the time. I mean, he is he is definitely as the other two are, but Tyler is just definitely somebody who is Springfield through and through. He's probably hiding behind the door over there. He's probably hiding behind the door over there. He probably is. He is. Oh, is he? And they are hired. And we appreciate you, Tyler. They are hired in the Summit County. Yeah, the Summit County ESC, yes. This is Frola? Yes. Mr. Hoover? I'm sorry. Okay. Yes. This is Warner? Mrs. Warner. Yes. Warner? Sorry. Mr. Lance? Yes. I'm tired. All right. Motion passed. There he is. As soon as I said it. We got him in

the back. You've been called on. It is recommended that the board approve the 2026 seniors listed in exhibit six to receive a diploma from the Springfield High School from Springfield High School after having met all the requirements as set forth by the state of Ohio and the Springfield Board of Education. So moved. Second. Okay. And this is what we do every year. You have to approve the graduation, you know, making sure that you're trusting us that they followed everything to get their diplomas, so and they have. So, we're excited. This is Warner? Yes. Mr. Hoover? Yes. Mr. Lance? My daughter would be upset if I said no, so yes. >> [laughter] >> Why did he vote Mrs. Frawley. Yes. All right, motion passed, but they don't get their diplomas yet. No. All right, number 15.

It is recommended that the board approve the revised school calendar for the 2026-27 school year to reflect a safety training day on October 8th, 2026. This will be a day for staff only. Absolutely. Second. And this is something that we've now done how many years? Three? This is going to be our third year. >> This will be our third year. >> This is going to be our third year that we do the all school K-12 safety planning and we have other districts, other communities coming and helping and running different types of simulations and everything. Is that all together in one building or are they doing it at each of their buildings to understand each building? >> Well, we did it we did it at Shrub last year. Just logistically we're we're not going to do

it at Spring Hill because of the just the parking with the we just wouldn't have enough parking for the teachers and everything there. So we will do it at the high school again, but then what [clears throat] we'll do for Spring Hill is we do do table top scenarios where we where we have the police chiefs and the fire chiefs come in and they work it out in that type of scenario. Okay. For that. All right. Do you have anything to add? Each building has their own you know, logistics and stuff. So Each building has its own dedicated safety plan specific to that building and that we practice in multiple ways, table top included and drills with staff and students in those locations, but logistically bringing the entire Springfield staff together and we usually have

three or four department different communities, police and fire departments. Spring Hill just doesn't provide the room to to do that efficiently. Okay. Mrs. Frola? Yes. Mr. Swance? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Mrs. Warner? Yes. Okay, motion passed. Number 17. It is recommended that the board approve a service agreement What's the number? Number 60. 60. Oh, who needs math? >> [laughter] >> I'm sorry. Number I went to the big one You went to the big one first, yeah. >> recommended that the board adopt Envision Math as the math program starting at grade four through Algebra II beginning in the fiscal year 2017 school year. So moved. Second. This is an absolutely exciting time for our math program. We have not had a new math program probably decades if I remember correctly. I will tell you that the

process has been a year-long process. All math teachers grades four through 12 have met with a consultant from Summit County ESC who brought in multiple programs as resources for the teachers to look at and the teachers had the ability to take them back to share them with students to get student feedback on and to give their feedback on them. It started I believe with just even looking at the the the research behind each program because it has to be what's called a high quality instructional material as required by the state of Ohio or HQIM. So it started with that research moving forward to actually looking at programs that fit the need, then actually taking them into classrooms seeing if they work with our students and work for our teachers, and finally came down to three

um possible curriculums. And after it came out, it went unanimously for Envision Math for grades 4 through 12. So, we are hopeful that the board approves this tonight so that we can start a brand new math program that aligns with Ohio's um math math plan that they have in place. And we hope that it will benefit our students because it has been a long time since math has seen anything new. Cool. Good news is it came in 20% under our original budget, so that made me happy. Math Math's probably changed a little bit in 10 20 years, right? Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. I mean, 2 + 2 is still 4. >> teacher in our audience. I would 2 and 2 are still 4. I would ask her. But the way you get there The

way you get there is a different journey. How long has it been, Jody, that we had cuz our >> Our last Our last book adoption was in focus, also known as Singapore Math, and I would say that was um we were in the old building still. Yeah, it And And Phillips, if I remember correctly, brought that in. Correct. Yeah, it has to been close to 18 to 20 years. Wow. So, standards have definitely changed. Well, we adjusted before. But yes, absolutely. And what about the ones online? There are some books There are some books online. There are some workbooks. There are um some hard copy books. There are manipulatives. There are online manipulatives. It's just a gamut. Um and this is Chris did say we came in We came in below budget, but we also

came in with a longer contract than we actually set out to get. So, we actually got two extra years out of coming in 20% cheaper. It was one win. >> Great. >> Exactly. The nice thing about this is >> in the in the career in the fields that I have worked, this this will go well I didn't do well in math in high school. It was one of my struggles. At least [snorts] people have told me like earlier in my career a couple places had I understood math better I'd have been an engineer and this will help our the disciplines of people going into the engineering fields and medical fields absolutely I'm 100% behind this. So and just before you vote just so you know um we still do have math in focus at K123

and we will start looking at those that program next year in order to see where to move forward with K123. Sweet. So you like this program Jody? Being the math teacher for so long? Yeah. It's a step up. From the math teacher. Absolu- And that's why they that's why they participated in it. Oh yeah. They >> That's great. They needed to see it and touch it and feel it. There were some that were just you just held the teacher manual and you're like, "No." Right. It was eight days we had eight days It was a lot. Eight days out of our classrooms to look at it but in the end I was a little bummed about that. It it was it was worth it. We maybe could have cut out a few days before but

having the stuff in your hands and looking at it and talking with your colleagues was very helpful. >> Right. Yeah. Yeah. So that was very good. Good. Good. Good to work. Do we vote on this? Not yet. We need to at least vote on it. Call that roll. Mrs. Frola. Yes. >> Mr. Lance. Yes. >> Mr. Over. Absolutely. Mrs. Warner. Yes. Awesome. Okay, motion passed. New books are coming Jessica. Yes. Stop the pull out PR. All right. Now we'll go to seven. >> Yes, now we'll go to seven. >> It is recommended that the board approve a service agreement with K12 Business Consulting to provide a subscription to K-12 K-12 Business Consulting Inc. Ohio annual forecast program for the period of July 1, 2026 [clears throat] through June 2030, 2027. So moved. Second. Any comments?

I have a comment from Chris. All right. Well, he's writing. This is a process that's starting out throughout the state. Uh it's a wise process where districts are bringing in these experts to produce a five-year forecast so we have a second set of eyes on our books. Uh he has probably one of the premier uh forecast models. Is it perfect? No forecast is perfect for school funding, but it does give the treasurer, whoever replaces me, a kind of a calmness to know that there's another set of eyes looking at it. And uh it's it's a good it's a good thing for the board to do. Everybody's starting to do it now. Mhm. Good. Yeah, and and and what what what people what most people don't understand is that Governor DeWine signed two tax bills in

December. There was five passed by the legislatures. Governor DeWine signed two of them. There's three pending. Mhm. Those he can sign all the way up to the last minute of December 31st this year. So, if he does the landscape will re-evolve again, unfortunately. It will. It will. Yeah, so this is >> And not for the better. That's the sad part, not for the better. >> for the better. It's never for the better. So. Mrs. Feroleto? Yes. >> Mr. Blancke? Yes. Mr. Hover? Yes. >> Mrs. Warner? Yes. Okay, motion passed. It is recommended the board approve the final amended appropriations for fiscal year 2026 and those were presented in exhibit A of the contract. So moved. I'll second. I'll talk about this issue. Uh you'll notice that there's a quite a large adjustment for general fund

and as Mr. Hofer he emailed me earlier uh that was due to the uh contract that we signed with our certified employees where we were creative and offered a one-time lump sum payment and that was not all but but it was over 50% of it so you know, you do this every year when you set your budget back in October Mhm. versus what's going to happen throughout the year unfortunately I think it's going to get more volatile because what's going to happen with all these changes going on you know, it's the prediction model's going to get a little harder. But uh as I'll talk about probably next month uh our finances are coming in as expected no surprises which is a good thing we're going to be healthy at the end of the year which

is a good thing. It's a good time to pass it on. Okay? Uh Mrs. Warner? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Mr. Lance? Yes. Mrs. Ferola? Yes. Motion passed. Number 19 It is recommended that the board approve a service contract with the Summit Educational Service Center to provide a search for a treasurer provided by the School Leadership Connection Service a division of the Summit County Service Center, and at the cost of 7,500. The contract was attached as exhibit nine. So moved. Second. We just can't the board after conversation made the decision to enter into this agreement. Mrs. Warner. Yes. Mr. Hofer. Yes. Mr. Lance. Yes. Mrs. Frola. Yes, I vote yes to fund it. Okay, motion passed. Number 20, overnight extended trips. 20.1 girls basketball. It is recommended that the board approve an overnight extended trip for

the girls basketball team and their chaperones to travel to the Cedar Point Athletic Complex in Cedar Point Park and attend to attend a Cedar Point basketball camp from June 9, through June 10, 2026. All expenses for this will be paid through fundraising and by the participants. So moved. Oh, wait. I have to do high school cheer. It is recommended that the board approve an overnight extended trip for the high school cheer team and chaperones to travel to Tiffin University to attend cheerleading summer camp from June 16, 2026 through June 18, 2026. All expenses will be paid through fundraising and by the participants. Now, your motion. So moved. Second. It moved and seconded, Mr. Adams. Mrs. Warner. Yes. >> Mrs. Forrula. Yes. Mr. Lance. Yes. Mr. Hofer. Yes. Motion passed. This is going to be kind

of an informal, just to let the audience and the TV audience understand what's going on in the treasurer's office. As many of you know, my assistant retired May 1st, which kind of threw us. We have since hired a new assistant that's not coming until June 1st, and I can't wait for that to come. We have a young lady from Summit County ESC that's helping us out for 2 days a week. Uh that, you know, we'll take what we can get. Uh So, it's kind of things are kind of, you know, a little bit of an uproar, but I do believe I June 1st it will get a lot better, okay? And then and then in a month my plans were to retire, but we'll see, you know, if services are needed until we get a

new fiscal body in there. So, this was a this week was a as Shelly [clears throat] knows, a little crazy, but it's crazy here and got a lot of stuff going on. And we got through it. Uh we had a lot of fires to put out, but we got through it. So, next month uh I'll uh talk about where we're at you're in financially. Uh and kind of say my goodbyes, and it will be short and sweet. Um the uh >> [clears throat] >> the search uh once the search ends and the uh uh Summit County the team is working on it and Summit County will send uh some applicants to the board uh to go through an interview process and that will happen during the week of I'm in May instead of June. Sorry.

That will happen during the week of June 15th, I believe. So depending upon how many applicants there are, we will we will schedule it during that week. with everyone's schedule. Pretty simple. Contract starts August 1st. Say that again. >> The contract will start August 1st just like every other treasurer. No. Correct. So if you know if someone when when someone is hired then we do contract. Correct. But just just so you know. Search is three >> Thank you. All right. Next Christina Zigler but director of special services report. So this week has been a busy week in preschool land. As Kelly mentioned, we've had our preschool prom for all of our students. They brought their family members. We had grandparents, we had parents, we had people dressed very fancy. It was super cute to see

them running around and then tomorrow we have our preschool graduation for our kids going on to kindergarten. [clears throat] We have a pretty decent size group of kids going to kindergarten next year. So some of these kids have been with us for 3 years and it's going to be kind of bittersweet to see them go because you get used to seeing their little faces around here. I was just talking to a teacher and the speech pathologist in Springhill and we were talking about a particular student and how much progress that student has made this school year and I'm like oh you guys I wish could have seen him when he came when he was three because he was so little and you know, didn't talk and just had a lot of needs and has now

transformed into this independent little kindergarten person that's doing really well. So, um and it will be neat to keep seeing these kids go as they go up to 12th grade, but yeah, so preschool is winding down. They will spend next week finishing screenings for next year's preschoolers and then getting everything ready to send out letters and notices for the new preschool class. Graduation is tomorrow at 10:00 at the Springfield Assembly. So, if you're free to make it, it's it's kind of they put on a little show, they sing some songs. It's it's really it's really cute. They've been working really hard on their little songs. >> Yes. Springfield Assembly at 10:00? Yes, at 10:00. Yeah. Yeah, 10:00. Christina, what size kindergarten class are we looking at? From just the kids that have attended our preschool,

I believe there's 40 moving up. And I think we already have about I want to say maybe 30 that have registered already that on top of those, so on top of the 40, so right now early on in May, we've got about 70. So, it's it's um it's it's going to be I think a little bit bigger class. Good. So, We run these like like waves in preschool. So, like this class going up is pretty big. So, now we have a lot of people coming in for screenings and have come in for screenings already to fill in the spots, but um this particular group is one of our bigger ones moving forward between our students with disabilities and our typical peers, so What are What do we average a class? One 100, 110? About 118

to 125. Okay. All right. And then and as they get up into the high school they get a little bit Um cuz I think our seventh and eighth grade is a little bit more than that. I know our and our I know our 10th and 11th grade is small. I think we're 123 in size. 123? Oh. That Our smallest class is 112. And that's 11th That's coming up to be seniors next year and our largest is about 135 136. Okay. And then we have um what's our what's our third grade? Or our second grade? Our second grade is at approximately 145. Oh, wow. It's our largest class. That was that was a that was a large group. That's and they're staying, so. Okay. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Um Mrs. Meadows, director of academics.

Um I just want to say congratulations to all the graduates who will be walking across the stage whether they're preschool or whether they're high school. Um it's amazing to see the change through the years, the difference, the camaraderie between the high school graduates as they were walking through the building and our preschoolers and the high fives and all that amazing thing all those amazing things. But so proud of this graduating class with the enrollments into college or the employed or those who are enlisted. Um whether you go into a trade or whether you go on to college just our our we want you to be a productive citizen and I think we're seeing that as we're changing the role of of what's going on in high school because it used to be you have to

kind of go to college in order to really make something of yourself. I love that the trades are now becoming more of an accepted um aspect and it hits home to me because I also have a senior who is going into a trade, so I I maybe that's why I'm embracing it so much this year, but um just to see where these kids are going is absolutely fabulous. Congratulations, class of 2026. We have some going into the military. Yes, uh we have a uh one going into the National Guard. One who I think is already enrolled or enrolled in um enlisted uh cuz isn't he an MP like on the weekends or something? I think so, yeah. So, I think he's like his parents signed off. Army, yeah. And then we have uh somebody going

into the Navy. Navy. I think it was, yeah. >> Yeah, I think it was it's I think it was uh National Guard, Navy, and Army I think are the three Mhm. Yep. that we have going. Absolutely fabulous. And then we have so many of them um having apprenticeships, you know, going into the trades, and so it's all Yeah. Mr. Boswell. I would also like to congratulate all the graduates. >> [clears throat and snorts] >> Um it's exciting coming to the end of the school year and all these wrap-up items that we've talked about uh to this evening, but also that, you know, we're already rolling into planning for next year. You know, we have meetings and activities going on planning for uh events next year and then and maintenance and facilities we have a short

um short summer to conduct projects and stuff. Uh we have some upgrades planned this summer and a few projects that we have a short window to get in and our our custodians get in and clean the buildings and get them ready for next year, so we're already thinking thinking ahead to that. The uh list of upcoming events in the morning announcements and emails has it's in a page long. It's ex- exams and award shows and graduations and everything. It it's been it's obviously shrinking, but it's been fairly long for the last uh couple weeks here. It has been uh I think May is probably one of the busiest months for high schools, definitely. Definitely. Um cuz you know we only have 5 days left. So, that's That's Wow. This year flew by. Mhm. I mean

it really did. Um and like Dustin said, 5 days and we're already starting for next year. Already planning on different types of uh you know, what we're going to do, you know, academically, you know, athletically and everything. So, um you know, I just want to thank uh this was a great year. I just want to thank the students, families, and staff for another um great year at Springfield. And, you know, I want everyone to have a safe and um relaxing summer because, unfortunately, I hate to say it, August is going to be here before you know it. So, enjoy it while you can. August was here yesterday, 90°. It was >> [laughter] >> It was It was a little bit toasty yesterday. It was a little bit toasty yesterday. And then today is what, 56?

So, we're back down to November. Yeah. So, we're just uh We're just We're just getting We're going to hit the whole weather gamut in the next 5 days. Which I got to say what, I really don't mind it not being hot at towards the end of the school year. I mean it's it's uh I know the high school has the air conditioning, so they're good, but it's really when it gets that hot in the elementary, so not having that heat is is uh is always a plus. So, I think we're going to end pleasantly weather-wise. Anything else? No, I'm good. Key items worthy of your note, May 21st, preschool last day. May 25th is Memorial Day, no school. Okay, um don't forget there's the parade for Memorial Day, May 25th. If anybody wants to be

in it, uh the band No, it's not there. The band will be in there. Um, and I Dustin is the liner upper of the of the parade, so uh, I think it's going to be Official title? Yes, official title, liner upper. Uh, so it's a every year it's getting bigger and bigger. So, it's going to be a good one. Okay, May 28th, students' last day. May 28th is the end of fourth quarter and the second semester. And May 29th, teachers' last day. And [snorts] May 29th is graduation at EJ Thomas. And June 16th is the next regular Board of Education meeting here at the at 6:00 here at the Springfield Administration Building. And everybody got their tickets, right? Yeah, I wanted the piece of paper you gave us also kind of let parents and everybody

I don't know if they know about the construction, if that went out to seniors and parents or not, but >> it it did. >> there is some there is some construction like everywhere in in Ohio, but Did you get something with the bridge or something? I mean >> give yourself a little bit extra time maybe just to get around it, so Okay. And then like for you guys to come in there's a back door where like where the parking is you come through the back door and then that's where we'll be to line up to go out onto the stage. Okay. And I have an out-of-town wedding, so I am going to miss graduation. It's the first time in a lot of years that I I will miss it, but uh it is what it

is. >> what it is, yeah. Um, all right, at this time partici- uh, citizens' comments. Um, are there any citizens' comments? We did enough talking, huh? Okay. Um it is recommended that the meeting be adjourned at this time. Motion? So moved. Move and second. Okay, it's my second. It's been moved and second, Mr. Adams. Mrs. Warner? Yes. Mr. Lance? Yes. >> Mrs. Frola? Yes. Mr. Hofer? Yes. Awesome. Okay, thank you very much. I'm so glad we I'm glad you were able to make
