it down there for him [Music] okay [Music] oh yes um mrs gerkin yes [Music] okay fabulous we're off to a great start i still can't hear anything okay well we're going to hold then so that way mr vasquez can make sure we can we can he he can [Music] my [Music] mrs varwick can you uh hear me yes i can hear you now okay mr corfman you can hear him well yes right all right then at this time we'll move on to the pledge of allegiance and i believe this is by devote elementary mr corfman i'll turn it over to you [Laughter] uh one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all hey thank you so much love that love love love okay and dr durant the mission and vision please twitter public

school's mission is to produce competitive college and career ready graduates through rigorous curriculum across all grade levels by implementing ohio new learning standard with fidelity our vision statement to strive to be an a-rated school district whose graduates are college and career ready thank you thank you and then dr durant um we'll do that for the presentation as well send that over to you yes i will turn this portion over to miss patty mazer miss mazur you are up thank you dr duran good evening everyone uh the only presentation i have to share this evening uh i have the pleasure of reading off the retirees and robert caputo who is a big teacher at woodward is retiring with twenty seven and a half years of service mr robert j webb iii a fifth grade teacher from

glendale feel back he's retiring with 28 and a half years of service miss karen barrick vision and hearing screener she's retiring with 31 years of service ms linda cooks an ed teacher at westfield achievement with 32 years of service angela d jordan assistant to the superintendent she's retiring with 33 years of service ms lynn moran principal at elmhurst is also retiring with 33 years of service and ms amy roseman a big teacher at start 33 years of service that seems to be the popular number tonight uh and that is a total years of service to toledo public schools and our students total of 214 years we wish them all the best okay that's an incredible number of years and we certainly wish all of them well okay moving on to section three our community comments

and we do not have any this evening section four our organizational input and mr corfman can you tell me are any of the bargaining unit leaders here today i do not see any right well then we are going to move on to section five comments by the board ms barnes thank you madam president so i will start oh this feedback let's see is this good nope i would i would just go anyway but i can hear myself speaking i don't know if it's uh on your end as well um i will start my statement with a quote by man maya angelou hate it has caused a lot of problems in this world but has not solved one yet although crt also known as critical race theory is not a standard curriculum for any k-12 this

discussion brings up a much-needed and uncomfortable question for some what is true american history well true american history includes the contributions of native americans such as the navy navajo indigenous tribe that helped won world war ii the contributions of the lgbt plus community like bayard rustin that helped write the i have a dream speech everyone likes to quote quote of dr martin luther king jr before he was murdered the contributions of hispanic latino latina americans like sylvia menendez that paved the way for making schools segregated this is all american history and many other racial groups made major contributions to our america and somehow is missing from our social studies and our history books if the vision is what you fear that will happen when teaching true history of this land then we have work to

do because we have been divided based on race class ethnicity and gender identity before anyone was talking about critical race theory we need to unlearn the hate the bigotry and discrimination that america was built on and the only way to do this is by having uncomfortable conversations and learning uncomfortable lessons we appreciate that our educators teach our children the basic fundamentals to ensure that our students will be successful in writing reading and math however when it comes to american true history we deny access to learn from the history so we can stop repeating it with this mindset we are practicing a double standard we cannot celebrate leaders of genocide in our school books but yet be silenced about the people that experience pain because of them as a board member i will support our district

diversity equity inclusion department as we continue to create spaces and make sure all tps student staff and families are welcomed and feel that they are heard and seen in tps thank you madam president thank you miss barnes um ms eichenberg thank you miss farwak um a couple of comments right now in columbus people are thinking about the fair school funding act and um how it will be included or not included as it was passed by the house in the final budget and you know there's not a lot in the budget that i love this year um and i think that what we saw coming across from the house as it applied to school funding was much better than what we see coming out of the senate it's frustrating to me you know reading some of

the various notes and on components of that of the senate version i see that you know they've raised the proposed amount to pay vouchers by 20 but yet they say that funding our public schools according to the house's fair school funding plan is too expensive so that's um that's pretty poor to say well only certain students are eligible for an increase in funding that actually meets something closer to their need so i think that's important for the you know community to keep in mind and to understand that there are good efforts being made to properly fund our schools in columbus but not everyone is interested in participating in that and i'm really hoping that um our governor stands up for us and helps us out with line item vetoes where necessary as is my friend

back here behind me so um the uh other comment i would make was i'll just thank miss barnes for her comments i i you know i was really pleased a few years back when i was the board president and we um piloted the the beginnings of the equity diversity and inclusion um department and we uh you know the board members who are on then and now ms barnes who's joined us since then um will continue to support that and i'm i'm proud that we will and as a group we agree that that is very very important in our our both in our curriculum and in how we operate and run our district so thank you thank you ms eichenberg and mr vasquez i don't have any comments this time thank you mr skirkin hello thank

you um as we become accustomed to the fight war against public education continues to come at us from many many fronts but i'd like to just acknowledge that in this district in toledo public schools we continue to shine and continue to do the good work of our families um folks will notice that we settled a um labor contract a few weeks ago and we have another one on our agenda today so is a little sneak peek of the evidenced that the evident commitment that this board has to our fourth strategic goal which is to recruit and retain highly qualified uh educators staff and uh this is done in part by having highly competitive wages and we know from what's going on in the community with um difficulty with the the sheer competition for high quality

workforce that competitive wages are very important um and in addition to our commitment to competitive wages among our all of our staff and bargaining units and professionals we're also committed to living wages and i think it's important to remember that by providing living wages we are ensuring that our our staff and employees who are maybe not at the highest end of the pay scale have an opportunity to have to be stable in their own personal lives and their family lives and having stable workers is beneficial to any employer and particularly for a public employer so that when we have stable workers we have workers that are more likely to not only maintain their employment with us but be at their best when they are working for us rather than having to deal with the everyday

journey of survival that is sometimes evident with lower wage positions so i just want to give us a little pat on the back for our continued uh commitment to not only competitive wages but living wages across all of our workforce and [Music] as it is further uh evidence of our commitment to our strategic plan and that's one of the important strategic goals um despite what's coming at us from so many different directions we at tps and in this district continue to do the right thing at every possible turn and i'm proud to be a part of that with all of you thank you miss kirkin um i also just have a few comments you know fair school funding plan certainly the folks have been working on this for three years and they put a lot

of hard work into this we're talking educators superintendents legislators you name it everybody's been working together and in the ninth hour the senate republicans have decided to throw out their own plan and basically do away with the fair school funding plan and and it calls into question why who does it benefit um and so i would ask um the public to start watching what our legislators are doing down at the state house whether it's regarding vouchers whether it's regarding the report cards and our taxpayer dollars we should all be concerned about last minute efforts to throw things into this budget um that are not um out in the light uh they are behind closed doors and making things happen at the very last minute without a lot of public input or say so my recommendation

is really for our community to really pay attention to what is going on down in columbus because it's going to impact all of our lives okay now on to the good portion though i would like to uh thank uh representative sabecki she stopped by the other day and i just want to um thank her on behalf of the board for um recognizing us during coven 19 and this past year uh you know i certainly i emailed the board what she had sent to us and um you know put it out on social media but i think it's really nice that representatives take the time to let board members know what's going on so i'll just a few lines here um we are pleased to pay tribute uh it says chris varweg on the occasion of

receiving the challenge coin as a show of appreciation for dedicated efforts during the covet 19 pandemic but when it says chris warwick i'm just a representative and it is for all of the board members due to the extraordinary dedication of this board classes continued and toledo public schools fulfilled its purpose of providing excellent educational opportunities for students throughout the city so thank you mrs sebeke for recognizing this board i know that you know we don't do these positions um for recognition uh or any of those type of things really just are here to make a difference for the students in our city but it is nice to be recognized and i certainly want to thank her for that okay with that said i'm going to move on to section six which is our consent agenda

agenda item 6.01 through 6.28 are the consent agenda items board members may request to pull an item from the consent and move to the discussion section of the agenda item 6.01 to 6.04 human resources chairs polly taylor gerkin co-chair stephanie eichenberg items 6.05 to 6.13 finance and business operations cheers bob vasquez co-chairs myself item 6.14 technology improvement and process committee i love that thank you for chair co-chair our chair stephanie i can chair polly taylor girkin again thank you for spearheading that committee item 6.15 and 6.16 board curriculum chairs polly taylor gurken co-chairs chris barwig item 6.17 to 6.21 policy committee chair sheena barnes co-chairs bob vasquez item 6.22 arts athletics and student activities chairs stephanie eichenberg co-chairs chris harwick item 6.23 and 6.24 family and community engagement committee chair bob vasquez co-chair sheena barnes

item 6.25 to 6.28 our approval of board committee minutes and at this time i'd like to request a motion to approve the consent agenda so moved second it's been moved and seconded any discussion no treasure hearing none please call the roll mrs varwig yes miss barnes yes mrs eichenberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs gherkin [Music] polly you're on mute still yes thank you all right thank you mr corfman all right section 7 of the agenda consists of reports in minutes from this month's committee meetings and are here for information and reference no action is required so we can proceed on to section 8 of the agenda all right section 8 is discussion and we do have several items um in this and it's uh there were some last minute changes so um just going to

draw attention to 8.01 which is renewal if institutional membership resolution fy 21-22 um before we vote on this one i just want to let the board members know that i asked the staff to remove osba from that and create a separate resolution so that way mr vasquez and i can vote separately on osba since we are board of trustees members so 8.01 is the renewal of institutional membership resolution can i have a motion for that please so moved seconded it's been moved and seconded any discussion none treasure please call the roll mrs varwig yes miss barnes yes mrs eichenberg yes mr vasquez yes this is kirkham [Music] did you get that get cut out again did you hear her okay i'm sorry yeah yeah i did it great just want to make sure i just

want to make sure okay then we're going to move to 8.02 so this is the institutional membership resolution for ohio school board association may have a motion please so moved second all right it's been moved and seconded any discussion all right treasure hearing none please call the roll mrs barwick abstain miss barnes yes zykenberg yes mr vasquez abstain mrs skirkin yes thank you colleagues all right 8.03 is the non-instructional section from hr that i asked to be pulled i'd like to entertain a motion to approve 8.03 so moved second it's been moved and seconded any discussion hearing none treasure please call the roll mrs varway abstain ms barnes yes mrs likenberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs kirkken yes thank you 8.04 is the juneteenth celebration resolution so let me get that resolution and i will

read that into the minutes resolution declaring juneteenth as federal holiday and authorizing the superintendent and treasurer to implement any action necessary for toledo public schools to recognize juneteenth as a holiday whereas president abraham lincoln first signed the emancipation proclamation which officially outlawed slavery across the united states in 1863. unfortunately the enforcement of the proclamation was inconsistent at best many if not all southern slave owners ignored the order until june 19 1865 when union soldiers stormed galveston texas to enforce the president's order thus freeing the enslaved two and a half years after it was first decreed and whereas since that time and declaration of freedom this historic day has been recognized as juneteen a day that marks the true end of slavery and other systems of oppression that plague the united states and whereas while freedom

was declared more than a century ago the journey of african americans represents both great achievements and hardship injustice and inequality continued and while great strides have been made the work to attain equality for all continues as our nation witnesses injustice on a number of local regional and national platforms whereas the month of june is a time in our nation a celebration and remembrance and now juneteenth is a national holiday for a recent proclamation signed by president joseph r biden jr the 46th president of the united states to commemorate juneteenth 2021 poetry music and dance were among the community events hosted in the glass city all were peaceful and meant to remember the realities of the past and celebrate what the future can bring whereas the board of education values diversity and is committed to identifying

actionable items to refine policies practices and procedures to improve access to opportunities so all students staff and families avoid subjection to inequalities in our schools now therefore be it resolved that the toledo public schools board of education hereby officially commemorates juneteenth as a national holiday that celebrates and emphasizes a collective call to action against injustice of any kind section one the board hereby directs the superintendent of schools and the treasurer of the board to take all steps necessary for toledo public schools to recognize juneteenth as a national holiday like all other national holidays section 2 the board hereby finds and determines that all formal action of this resolution were taken in open meetings of this board and that all deliberations of this board and of its committees which resulted in formal action were taken in

meetings open to the public in full compliance with applicable law section 3 this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and immediately after its adoption they have a motion so moved second it's been moved into seconded any discussion um i i just wanted to know um how excited i am that this is uh been declared a federal holiday and also i think it ties back to some of our earlier discussion in that i was an adult who graduated from college and taken a lot of history classes and studied art history for fun before i discovered juneteenth what it was and what it represented and i think that that points out that we have you know i'm not that old although i'm not a spring chicken but um we have a long history of

not teaching things that don't fit the narrative that the people with the most power want to talk about and we have a long history of technically perhaps allowing people to co-exist and supposedly equal terms but making it very difficult practically for them not to co-exist on equal terms and i think that we you know along with juneteenth there were many many many things i did not learn about in history that we need to continue to make sure are brought forward as a part of our curriculum so that students of of color understand the important things that have happened in u.s history that may still impact them today redlining the even though it's not legal anymore it still impacts our our students today so you know there are all sorts of things that we need to

keep in mind and it's our responsibility to teach our students the accurate facts of our history and the accurate facts of our history frequently aren't always flattering to um the majority that wrote the history books and and we need to delve beneath that and we need to be serious about it so as we celebrate juneteenth um you know the it's also a day that i think should be used for reflection and i was in my private employer that actually we were all ordered not to have meetings and we were supposed to do some studying and some reflection or do positive work in our community to improve the lives of others so i think that you know if as we as a district embrace juneteenth it sends an important signal both to our staff and our

students that we need to bring forward some of that history that has been largely kept quiet in in mainstream society and and we have to do better um we have to we have to be responsible to teach our history accurately so thank you ms eichenberg anyone else uh yes uh i just wanted to say i am pleased that the effort to make juneteenth a national holiday uh a federal holiday excuse me has come forth uh but this once again is what i'm talking about the double standards of our kids not even knowing what this is um and as we look to decipher what this means for the future we have to be honest in that truth that is uncomfortable that yes we have now a federal holiday that is referenced to quote-unquote african-american history that

is american history but yet we still have not passed the anti-lynch law we are still getting voter suppression to this day so we have a lot of work to do and we can't establish that until we decolonize our educational system and decolonize the systems that are built on racism and so i am glad tps and i'm pretty sure uh dr durant and i applaud dr baran dr jeffries and dr blind uh for making voices heard but i will definitely work with them and probably be louder than them a little bit on some things about making sure we are saying the correct things and not just what is the trend at the moment thank you thank you miss barnes anyone else thank you um i would just indulge in a little bit of my own personal

reflection around the local scene as uh the celebrations rolled out on saturday everything from dedicating historical markers to um just one wonderful event after another i had i felt a little guilty we had uh some family obligations so i wasn't able to attend though any of the events i started a little bit with guilt i should be there because you know i'm the public official and it's important stuff and then a lot of fomo because i knew it would be a lot of fun and a lot a lot going on but it wasn't to be i couldn't do it and then as i watched social media during the day just pouring in with all of my friends acquaintances colleagues community leaders of color just the joy of seeing the joy unfold throughout the day through

all of their eyes i felt a little bit like well really maybe it wasn't my party anyway right and so i felt like yeah sure i missed out and i want us you know i want people to know i'm an ally or i want people to know i believe in this and i want people to know that uh you know that i think it's important but it was just so much more um meaningful to me to step back and absorb the the the joy and the festivities uh that that the my friends and loved ones of color were able to experience that day because our our day of festivities happened to coincide with a federal holiday being declared it was great timing and it was just really uh nice to see and and i'm i'm

happy that the time has come for for us to be able to really celebrate uh the horror of slavery coming to an end mr besque has anything okay well um i'm just going to say i applaud my colleagues for their comments i don't know if i could say any of that any better so thank you for your words i am just very proud that we are um taking a step forward and making progress albeit a little as it is so uh with that said could we go ahead and get the vote please mrs barwig yes miss barnes yes mrs eichenberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs gerkin yes okay thank you i feel like this has been the year of resolutions um since i have to read them all so we're going to go to 8.05

and i do need to read this one it is important um resolution to approve the collectively bargained agreement between the little board of education and employees represented by the ohio council eight afscme locals 272 349 840 2174 and 2853. the board of education believes that all employees play an essential role in creating a school district where students are college and career ready upon graduation this goal is achieved through the hard work and commitment of each and every toledo public schools staff member the board of education understands the importance of recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers to our district through these collective bargaining agreements the agreements are we are fulfilling a promise made to the community um let's see here you know what i feel like that was recruiting rotating i feel like that particular word

needs to be changed in this resolution so i don't want i want to put a pause here for just a moment and mr um mr gant or dr durant if you're taking a look at this resolution yes so it says the board of education understands the importance of recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers to our district which is true but this particular resolution does not coincide with the teachers i know sometimes we copy and paste which i understand um on some is that something that needs to be stricken or can i proceed uh what paragraph i want to look at it i'm looking at it now it's the second paragraph i don't see that in the version that's on board docs okay so then i must have an earlier version so the version i'm looking

at at board docs speaks to um employees okay thank you yeah i think i think you have something different i think i have an earlier version yeah that she's going to provide you the current version now okay thank you [Music] is it just employees that is in there instead of teachers because i can just continue on then [Music] i believe so but it's hard for me to find where you're at this is i'm sorry okay it's in the second paragraph is what i have mr corfman can you take a look at that uh mrs barwood does mrs gerkin have a copy of the current yes maybe she could read it that would be great miss gerkin i'll take you and you can go ahead and read that then i want to make sure that we

have the accurate one thank you the board of education believes that all employees play an essential role in creating a school district where students are college and career ready upon graduation this goal is achieved through the hard work and commitment of each and every toledo public school staff member the board of education understands the importance of recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers to our district through these collective bargaining agreements we're fulfilling a promise that we made to our community who support our students the best possible employees across the country it is our hope that the agreements that are presented here demonstrate our commitment to a high standard of excellence and that the employees in each of our harvey units understand the effort that has been put forth during the negotiating process in accordance with the

district's continuing plan whereas the board of education has three representatives designated personnel section 4117.04 of the ohio revised code negotiated provisions modifying and extending has modified the collected bargaining agreement with employees represented by ohio council eight afscme locals 272 349 840 2174 and 2853 whereas under the language and financial agreements as defined in the party's separate written agreement the parties have reached agreement that make changes to collective bargaining agreement that will allow the district to provide better services to students and families while at the same time demonstrates our commitment to recruit and retain highly qualified support staff whereas the superintendent and the board's designated representatives have recommended that the board of education approve the above mentioned agreement and appropriate funds for their implementation and whereas the toledo board of education has reviewed and considered the

agreement now therefore be it resolved by the board of education of the toledo city school district lucas county ohio that the board in accordance with the foregoing recommendations hereby approves the agreement and directs its representatives to sign the above mentioned agreement section one the board hereby directs the superintendent of schools and the treasurer of the board to take all steps necessary to implement the agreement section two the board hereby finds and determines that all formal action of this resolution were taken in open meetings of this board and that all deliberations of this board and of its committees which resulted in formal action were taken in meetings open to the public in full compliance with applicable law section 3 this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and immediately after its adoption thank you

miss kirk and that's one way of getting out of reading it now isn't it can i go ahead and have a motion please to approve second it's been moved and seconded any discussion i treasure i don't know go ahead yes i just want to um maybe double down a little bit on what was said earlier about us being able to negotiate uh with our employees and that process and just wanted to tell the district and afscme that i really appreciate the work that they put into the process and getting us to the to this point um i think that uh mrs gurken said it earlier and um i just wanted to reiterate the same at this point thank you mr vasquez anyone else ms eichenberg yeah um well first i just wanted to thank um

mr gantt and the team who worked on this along with our bargaining units i know it's not easy for five bargaining units to get into the same spot and and make things happen um but i also want to continue to extend my my caution as we look to future years that we be careful um to account for the fact that there are some seismic changes happening in the labor market right now and we want to make sure that we keep abreast of those and that the rates we are paying our staff will still allow us to be competitive um and so i know we can't read the future if if people could read the market then none of us would be in education we'd all be rich on an island somewhere but um you know

we need to we need to make sure that we're open as we um you know both close out this year and look to the future years to making sure that we understand what competitive is visually the local market um and changes that could be made at the federal level to the national um federal minimum wage so uh just keep in mind i hope mr corferman you'll pass that message on also to mr speculty um i've been obsessing about it for the last few weeks to make sure that we don't have a hard time hiring the staff that we so desperately need um to fill our buses and to fill our our lunchrooms with good high quality folks who are not worried and concerned that they can make it from paycheck to paycheck um because you

know we're committed to trying to pay a living wage here at toledo public schools so um just a reminder that we want to continue to keep our eye on that ball as we negotiate forward thank you thank you anyone else just you know to put a fine point on this agreement it is a one-year agreement that kind of took us through the pandemic when we weren't able to you know get to the table or multiply your agreements and our team is right back to the table working on a multi-year agreement which we um look forward to so this is really a you know interim thing to get us through and we're right back at it so thank you for all of your hard work ms barnes what okay i know right shocker but i think

uh my fellow board members pretty much said all you know the appreciation that the work they do uh dr dr gantz and thank you a doctor dr gant dr get um mr gant for you know going back and forth to make sure everything was fair um everybody was seen and heard so i they kind of echoed all that so this time i'm gonna be quiet which i even didn't do just a couple minutes ago so there you go it doesn't take much no it doesn't [Laughter] okay so um you know i love this board because we do have fun with this um we are serious when we need to be serious but we have a good time this is so exciting to me that we're passing this i know it's a one year but you

know what our staff has worked so hard this past year some of the some of these employees at work there every single day making sure that things were cleaned and paperwork was handled even when some of us were maybe at home doing virtual they were on site making sure things got done and so i applaud them thank them for such a challenging year and this is just a step in the right direction so we're going to go right back at it um with negotiations all right with that said mr korfun can you please call the roll this is warwick yes miss barnes yes mr zuckerberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs gerkin okay thank you uh section nine do we have any walk-ins this evening i don't believe we do okay all right section 10 early

childhood education uh chairs paulie taylor gerkin and co-chair ishina barnes and at this time i'll turn it over to mrs gerkin oh thank you we just have one action item and as you know with uh head start being a federal program oftentimes we need items to have their own separate and distinct vote which is why they can't end up show in the consent agenda and this is one of those things that headstart requires is for us to do a family needs assessment and what this is it shows you what questions are going to be asked on the needs assessment and dr alan turn it over to you um to tell us about when we might see results from such an assessment which i'm sure everyone will find um interesting as they drive your interventions right

you're muted i'm sorry we go uh yeah we do the family needs assessment with every family who enrolls in our program we collect that data and we use it to meet their needs what this is is a revision the needs assessment we were using before was quite complex and difficult for families to understand and difficult for our staff to navigate so we simplified it a little bit in a way that we can still get the same data that we anything to add ms barnes from early childhood work this month um no not really um just that i'm always blown away by the great work and how they keep thinking on their feet i mean it's really a complex thing that makes it simple that i'm blown away every time in our in our committee meetings

thank you so we just need a motion yeah so we need a motion for 10.01 seconds it's been moved in seconded any discussion hearing none treasure please call the roll mrs varwig yes miss martens yes mrs eichenberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs gurken yes thank you section 11 of the agenda consists of the early childhood education reports and minutes from this month's committee meetings are not provided for your information and reference no action is required and so we can proceed to section 12 and i'm going to turn it back over to mrs gerkin this time i'm going to give it directly to dr allen these are just a couple of amendments that she'll tell us about yeah so the uh thank you for letting us have these walk-ins this evening these are two contract amendments

for our delegate agencies these are a result of the recently approved coronavirus response money and the american recovery act money of which we give a portion to our delegates so given that it was just approved and just came to us late um we are hopeful and thankful that you will allow us to walk it in for board approval tonight do they need separate votes they do not do not so we can bundle those okay great so if we could bundle 12 12.02 and i'll entertain a motion please so i moved second it's been moved and seconded any discussion hearing none treasure please call the roll this is varwig yes miss barnes yes mrs eichenberg yes mr vasquez yes mrs kirkin yes all right great all right section um usually we have an executive session but

corfman as pro tem any comments um i actually was gonna make a comment about state funding i know you as well as mrs eichenberger touched on it um last week during testimony there was a little bit of positive news the director of the office of budget management provided updated revenue projections that there's gonna be an additional 1.6 billion for fiscal year 22 an additional 1.7 billion in fiscal year 23. and why that's important is because a house passed bill originally was planned over six years now it's believed that they have enough funding that the full fair school funding plan could be implemented within the biennium so that was some positive news that came out of last week so where they're at now they have uh the conference committee they should be meeting within the next

two days so we should have more information by the end of the week on that and the reason i'm saying all this is because likely in august we're going to need to do a revision to the budget just based on what this comes out with so that's all i have okay no that's that's great to hear thank you i appreciate that and i'm sure that uh miss eichenberg and i will be following up with you all right at this time we are at the second portion of board member comments um let's start with ms barnes you know it uh i would like to take a minute to thank uh mr kaufman is it kaufman or copeland coffee coffee okay um and miss artisa and then also our two texts here uh without their hard work

running behind the scenes uh making this is so simple but you know i see them running and working really hard so i do appreciate it and i just wanted to bring all this back discussion to a close that we have to remember that the teachers uh the first teachers are the parents or the household and guardians and so when we're having conversations about anything regarding how we can do better this starts at home so i want people when they're watching this or hearing this that you are their first teachers and you can teach unity love and respect um and that's all i have to say thank you madam president thank you miss barnes miss eichenberg uh thank you miss fargo i just uh should have put in my general comments earlier a big thank you

to uh all the staff uh you know in the schools in the in the central administration building it's been a long year it's not over for some who signed up and made summer school happen for so many of our students and i'm very grateful that they were able to do that and for those that you know needed the break and took it i you know i respect the need for you to work on your your break in your mental health as well it's been a tough year so i do want to thank everybody for that um and uh you know just really appreciate what we we were able to accomplish and get through this year it wasn't perfect but it was really well done and i'm really proud of us what's your best guess yeah

i just want to say thank you to everybody all of our staff and everything that we've been through this year and i'm very glad to see that we're putting together such a robust summer school for people who want to attend and want to thank all the teachers and all the staff who signed up and uh decided they would help out with that so um and i also want to say uh summer is not really a time off for the board it's not a time off for uh superintendent i don't hope he's listening and treasurer um so we're we got a lot to do uh in this time before school starts again so we're going to keep at it and keep working thanks ms kirkin just thank you for another school year that's come to a

close and i know a lot of people aren't getting a break at all so remind you to build some self-care in even to your work routine to the uh any extent that you can find to do those things so that you can keep uh keep going um i will see everyone for uh the important business of our july meeting and then i think we're going to be back well we're going to be back in person starting in july and then go from there see everybody soon okay thank you um and you know what i'm glad dr durant brought up the graduation ceremonies um i know that's one of my favorite times of year you see the joy uh on all of the kids faces on the family's faces it's so great that it was in

person this year that we could do that um even though it was different from previous years it still was um you know that just seeing that that um the smile and the joy is it just so fulfilling so i'm glad that we were able to participate and do that this year uh the summer school and and athletic and arts camps i know they're still going on i will tell you my granddaughter comes home every day and she's like it's the best day of my life she loves preschool so thank you to all the educators out there and folks that are continuing on with our summer school and are in our camps it truly is impacting our students and i look forward to the next school year let's um pray that we no longer have a

pandemic that is um you know has been at the forefront of our minds like this past year has been so i'm really hopeful um that folks continue to get vaccinated it's so important to do so so that way we can truly enjoy um you know getting back to what we call our normal life and then going forward as far as board meetings are concerned we will be back in person come july so all of our our board committee meetings our special board meetings and our regular board meetings will be in person so i look forward to seeing folks um you know come this fall um and well actually just a month away right so with that said i will to entertain a motion to adjourn so move any discussion i would just say i think
