00140 26 work session. This meeting is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the school district's business and it's not to be considered a public community meeting. Mrs. Adams, would you call the roll? >> Yes, Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Osanubi. >> Yes. >> Can we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, please? >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Next on our agenda is our mission statement that will be read by Mrs. Osanubi. >> Yes. The mission of the Tri-Cities Madison City Schools is to graduate all students prepared to excel in
002a global society with a commitment to lifelong learning by guaranteeing a challenging curriculum facilitated by an innovative and dedicated staff, community participation, and state-of-the-art resources in a stimulating atmosphere. >> Thank you. Next, uh subject E, to adopt the agenda. I need a motion to the to adopt the agenda, but are there any changes? >> There are a few changes this evening, Madam President. First, I would like to request we move executive session to number two after uh opening. And then with that, I will be presenting the with a amended personnel agenda for this evening with one change, one addition to the personnel agenda. And that will be under item now 6B. >> This is 6B? >> 6B will be the new amended personnel agenda. That's all I have to say with changes. >> So, I
003need a motion to adopt the agenda with changes. >> I motion. >> I second. Ms. Adams, could you call the roll? >> Yes, Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Oshinubi? >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Cherry? >> Yes. Motion passes. >> [clears throat] >> I need a motion to enter into executive session to consider the appointment, employment, discipline, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official, licensee, or regulated individual per B O E policy 0166 and O R C 121.22 G1. Action may be taken. >> I motion. >> I'll second. >> It's been moved and >> second? Adams. >> Yes, Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Oshenubi. >> Yes. >> Mrs.
004Cherry. >> Yes, motion passes. We will enter into executive session at 5:33. >> Mhm. >> 47 and to resume the work session meeting. Next on our agenda is our presentation. A new world language textbook adoption. >> Thank you, Madam President. I'm going to ask Mrs. Rachel Murdock, our director of curriculum, to come up and just give a brief overview of the language arts Well, excuse me, the new world language textbook adoption. You can make reference to >> There's a presentation. Uh I sent it to Eric and Alan earlier. And it was linked in the agenda. >> Can you go to the agenda and pull it up? Logan, I just shared the PDF with you, too. I just shared the PDF with you, too. That's quicker. It's in your inbox. You can also look at it
005on your link if you have it have it pulled up. >> Yeah, so this this will be brief. This is just to review the process we went through for our world language adoptions. Specifically, that was for Spanish textbooks. This year, they had not had new textbooks in quite a number of years, so it was overdue for them. So, just briefly, I'm not going to read the whole slide, but just to kind of briefly summarize the process, the two Spanish teachers did pilot two different programs from two different publishers, one from McGraw Hill and one from Savvas. They did those pilots with their students. As part of the pilot, we did receive a classroom set of physical books, which will greatly cut down on our cost when we get to the cost in a few minutes.
006And then, they took notes, they worked with the director of secondary curriculum, and then made a recommendation. Both of the materials that they piloted were aligned to the Ohio standards. They both are very coherent for scope scope and sequence and use the instructional strategies that we value at Trotwood. So there's a picture of both covers. You can see the McGraw Hill cover on the left and the Savvas cover on the right. They did recommend the Savvas textbook. We have several other Savvas adoptions. They are they do stay very current with their technology, with the strategies that students engage with in the program. So that is the adoption we are recommending this evening. Some of the teacher feedback was based on the diversity they saw in the resources, the accessibility of those resources for student use,
007the ability to have student growth with this adoption, and the full alignment with the academic standards. So this adoption is bought is just for high school Spanish. And as I said, we did get a copy of the physical books as just for doing the pilot. So there was no cost for the books themselves, the classroom set. So the cost tonight is $10,980, which for a textbook adoption is is very low. Okay. So that will just be for Spanish. And then on this last slide, I did include other textbook and materials costs that we will incur this year. Because of our financial situation, we are not adopting any other new text. We would like to be at the point where we could get every curriculum on a 6-year adoption schedule, but those are expensive. I'm sure
008you remember that from last year when we had almost um 700,000 in textbook costs. So, this year we are just going to renew the curriculums that we have. The costs there come in um reusable materials like the work texts that we purchased particularly for that Wonders adoption. Same for math. Um so, we do incur some costs, but by just renewing the curriculums we have, we will be able to save money. So, keeping it under 200,000 for this year um until we are in a better financial situation. And I would also say that these texts are still very current. They're still very relevant. Wonders is on the approved list for Ohio as I'm sure you're aware for K-5 reading instruction, you have to choose something from that approved list and it remains on that list. So,
009we feel like this is the best decision for what's best for students and what's best financially. And that is it. >> Thank you, Ms. Murdock. >> I just have a I have a quick question. You said we decided, who was part of the we? >> For the the Spanish adoption? It was the foreign language teachers, Spanish teachers. >> Okay. >> So, as Ms. Murdock did state, understanding where we are, um you know, where we are financially, we want to make sure that we are stewards of of the community, stewards of of of our of our taxpayers. So, uh there was a decision made that instead of pushing forward with whole adoptions as we've done in the past. We're going to just continue to extend some of the ones we had. I think it's in the
010best interest of our students and there are a lot of supplemental materials, technology aspects, resources, etc. that will continue to provide our our kids the the instruction and the educational component that they need. So, we're comfortable with that. Ms. Murdock and her team did some some really some really good due diligence making sure of that and I think uh that $108,000 would be be well worth spending. All right. Anything else for the board? >> The um the courses of study are also linked under that or just for review tonight. And there are not many new additions to those. There are two additions in the middle school course of study. Those are the foundations of language classes for grade 7 and 8. Those are on page 13 of the middle school adoption. Those classes are adding
011classes that address the needs of students who are on reading improvement plans required in Ohio revised code. So, it's providing that reading support in an additional course for them. So, we went ahead and um we'll have 7th graders in those classes this year and then next year we'll have 8th graders moving into those classes. And then the only change in the high school course of study is the adoption of a data science foundations class. We are not offering that this year. It's on page 39, but we anticipate offering that in the future um because there have been several bills about requiring computer science at the high school level. So, we wanted to get that in our course of study for the future. And those are the only changes. >> So, what you'll see on the
012next board of agenda will be a request for approval for the new textbook adoptions in both the course of study for the high school and middle school. And we'll be asking for action on those the next week. >> All right, thank you. Smart up. >> Moving right along, this our next item up is a board report. Do you have any? Next is our treasurer's report. >> Um tonight we have just for your information attached to the agenda the meeting minutes from the May 7th, 2026 work session and the May 21st, 2026 regular meeting. So those are um there for your review tonight and then those will be on for approval at the business meeting at the end of the month. And those are that's the only item I have tonight. >> Okay. >> Any questions?
013>> Moving right along, superintendent's report. >> I just have two items this evening for one for information and one for action. The first is for information. I'm asking for approval next meeting of the student code of conduct for 26-27. If you take a look at uh your link in board docs, you will see a copy of that student code of conduct. And you've got a few weeks to review it. If you have any questions, please feel free to to uh to send them to me via email or give me a call. And as you make your way through uh that document, it is several pages, but it does include um all aspects of of the district when we talk about uh dealing with students, when we we talk about offenses, when we talk about um
014I'm trying to just thumb through this as I'm moving forward. Uh how to deal with complaints, uh just everything from the standpoint of student of a student code of conduct. So, as you're Again, as you are moving through, and then also it talks about how we uh how we go about utilizing restorative practices in the district as well. So, when you when you thumbing through it, please, if again, if you have any questions, just let me know, and I can respond to those questions, but I will be asking for action on that the next board meeting. >> Okay. >> All right. And next, I have a request for approval of the personnel agenda, the amended personnel agenda, with the uh denoted item highlighted number 12 as the uh only amended change. Personnel agenda uh includes
015separations of services, changes in salaries and appointments, and supplemental appointments, uh 1 through 27. And I am asking for action on the personnel agenda this evening. >> We have had an opportunity to review the personnel agenda with the changes. Are there any questions? >> No. >> That's mostly me and Mr. Vice President. >> Mr. Secretary. >> No questions. Do I need a motion to approve the the personnel agenda with the changes? >> I motion. >> I'll second. >> Ms. Adams, would you call the roll? >> Yes. Mrs. Oshanubi? >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Cherry? >> Yes. >> Motion passes. >> Personal privilege. >> Madam President, if if I may, I would just uh like to acknowledge two new administrators here in the district that the board
016just approved. I'd like to recognize Dr. Ella Jordan Isaacs. Do you all mind standing, Dr. Isaacs? Uh Dr. Isaacs is the newly appointed principal over at Westbrook Village. Dr. Isaacs, you got uh anything to say? Quick word? All right. >> Thank you, Dr. Isaacs. And new to the district, I would like to recognize the new principal appointed over at our early learning center, Ms. Sherri Marks. Ms. Marks, welcome. >> [applause] >> You got anything to say, Ms. Marks? Anything you'd like to say quickly? Okay. >> Thank you. >> Welcome. >> Thank you, ladies. That's all I had this evening, Madam President. >> Okay. So, we're up for discussion items. >> I I I do have a few this evening that I wanted to make sure that uh one the the first one that um that
017we've been discussing over the last couple of meetings and I I did not want it to fall off the radar. We have until mid-August, um, Ms. Adams. >> Off the top of my I think it was August 9th. It was August >> August 9th to determine whether or not we are going to seek funding through uh through a levy. I had the opportunity to meet with some former employees of the district from several several years ago. Um, Mr. John Oliver and uh and Mr. Logan, Terry Logan, who were very instrumental in getting the the bond issue passed when we built the new schools in 2004, 2005 and they gave me a very um very uh distinct rundown on some of the components of of putting it putting together a levy committee, identifying a levy committee,
018and then handing that that responsibility over to the committee so that committee can do the do the groundwork for us. I would um I'll definitely in the next couple of meetings like to, you know, maybe share some of those share some of those components or or send them to you guys via email, but I think ultimately with uh by July, by um by the the middle or first of July, not first of July, but the middle of July, excuse me, the board needs to to pass a resolution or not on whether whether we are going to go out and seek additional funding through a bond issue. So, I just want to make sure that this stays on everybody's plate. I don't want us to forget about it. I think Ms. Adams, you know, our our
019homework will be to to see what type of millage the district uh will need to request from the community and see what type of type of funds that that millage will produce and I think we can get that information to you guys within within the next couple of weeks. I just don't want this to fall off the radar. >> Once we have Once we have that once we have the millage and everything, I think it will be we will be able to make a decision on how we move forward on that. >> But I don't think we can determine that now because we don't know what the damage to the taxpayer would be. So I shouldn't say damage to the taxpayer. >> It is what it is. Yeah. >> So maybe um maybe next meeting
020we can try to put together some >> Yeah, actually I was I was going to share I did gather that and I can send it to tomorrow I can send it tomorrow just what income tax in quarter percent increments would be and then what one mill on a property tax levy would be. I also have a call into the Board of Elections. I just need to follow up on what the cost would be to put an issue if there is a cost associated with putting that issue on the ballot what that would be. Yeah, I can probably have at least two of those three things to you tomorrow. >> If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready. >> That's right. I do have one more question around that. >> Are we going Are
021we going to actually look at what the difference between the full mill and the earned income or are we just deciding not to do that? >> I think that's in what I what I have to share with you and if not I will get the information so at least you can look at it to make a decision. Yes. >> So I think from the board's standpoint, I think it will probably be imperative to put an agenda item on the next board meeting for some open discussion about that and then ultimately come to a decision on >> which way you're going to go. >> Right. Okay. Uh the next item Madam President uh is the solar project project. Uh we had a presentation a couple of weeks ago investigating the the opportunity for us to work
022with a third-party provider to install the the solar panels in our district along with possibility of some new roofing for the district. Listening to some of the feedback that I've heard from you know some of the board members individually I feel that my interpretation is that project's moving a little fast. And again, we have to have we have to have that um we have to have that decision done by July 1 which is you know literally about you know about 3 weeks away. And you know we're talking about a huge a huge financial commitment and a and a space commitment as well. I I truly believe it is a it's a a good investment, but I also do agree with with the the concept that we probably need a little more information. And what I
023would recommend is that we we you allow me to work a little more diligently with the with the contractor to to see what you know what details we may have missed and then bring that to the board and if we um you know if we miss that miss that time frame then we do we miss it. You know there may be other opportunities out there. That is one thing he did say. There may be some additional opportunities out there. And I even told him directly I I didn't feel comfortable with such a rush in presenting presenting my board with such a rush on on a project that could be you know, could be huge. I know I think he he said it was even even maybe a a 3-5 year project building project construction project
024and and usually that's not that's not how I work. It was just the time that that we had to to try to get it done and that's why I brought it to you guys. >> Well, I support him Mr. Harris because we had a little bit of conversation about this project and just making a huge impulsive decision accompanied by the financial cost with it. I think we are making the right decision. Delay doesn't mean denied but we need some more information. >> All right. So I I will work over the over the summer. >> Maybe they could provide some some clarity on what the actual cost savings are on energy. I didn't come away from their presentation you know, understanding what the actual cost >> savings will be and maybe that should be the focus
025on what we we look to gather from them. >> It was it was a lot of assumed cost. >> Right. >> And and I also think that to to piggyback on that finding some some comparable you know, facilities that have have utilized the program before. >> That was my question. >> putting you know, those comparable against those assumptions. >> Absolutely. >> You know, maybe that would be maybe that would be something that would would give us a little more clarity on what our actual assumed costs would be. Because um we know from from the presentation we are going to have to have an upfront cost. And we want to make sure that that upfront upfront cost does not supersede what our anticipated savings is. >> All right. >> Over time. So So I agree. I
026agree. You know, I brought them here because they reached out to us and we did a little research but once he said July 1st, I said this may this may just be too quick. Moving too fast. >> Not saying that it's not a good idea, though. Not saying that it's it's not a good idea and it may not be sustainable. But, um I think as we continue to, you know, push our way through this path of of financial, you know, financial peril in a sense, we got to look for anything that's out there, but we got to make sure that it's right. What snakes, Madam President, is on the June meeting? You You want to take that one or you want me to present that one? >> We're just going to reschedule or cancel the
027next June meeting for the 18th. It's canceled. >> And move it to the 25th. And then Mrs. Adams can do her financial closeout end of the year closeout on the 25th, and we can have a meeting simultaneously. I don't know if we have to have two separate meetings or it can still be on the same agenda. Okay. >> No. But, it's it's not if you address the issue for anybody else, that's fine. I'll bring it up. >> We would just We would just need to make sure there'd be three people here. So, as long as we have the equipment Okay. Subject uh D is the summer school enrollment? >> D summer school enrollment. I was asked to provide updated numbers for summer school enrollment. Currently at the high school, we have 130 students in credit
028recovery. All of those courses are credit recovery courses through Courseware and uh through mentorship guidance by a few teachers, our goal is to, you know, get those young people caught up focusing on 9th and 10th grade students, being intentional from that standpoint. Uh currently, we have about 40 in middle school. And uh our middle school focuses is on identifying some of those students that really struggle during the year, providing them some support, and then our eighth graders that did not meet the meet the mark or meet the standard and making sure they have some you know, they have some investment in being promoted to uh to the next grade level to high school for that transition. And then over at Westbrook Village, we are um we are providing the Champions program again. Uh Champions currently
029has 100 students with a waiting list of I think I spoke to her anywhere between 15 to 25. Uh Champions again is the enrichment experience that we provide uh totally ran and uh funded through the Champions program. They're utilizing the space, but directly targeted towards uh our students second through fifth. This K through five. Yeah, K through five. So, there's students over there at K through five. So, that's where we are currently with with summer school enrollment. >> And the waiting list is just because we couldn't reach don't have the capacity. >> the capacity. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> I would like to know how many third graders are in it. >> Okay, I can find that information for you. 16 third graders. >> 16. >> Thank you, Ms. Murdock. Another piece of evidence. My
030people being on point. >> Okay. >> Any questions for summer school enrollment? >> Okay, so the um last item is a item I wanted to bring to the board for uh some some some brief discussion. It is the I got to get back to my agenda. Sorry. Technology. As you um all know who attended the attended the um the commencement ceremony, there were some there was some uncertainty about how we uh recognize students that have that have passed within within the within that cohort, within that class. I received um several emails from two parents that had students that um would have been a part of the of the 2026 cohort wanting to know how we were going to recognize their students or if we were going to recognize their students. We um we have done
031this in the past uh but we've done it in a couple different ways. Unfortunately, we um we had not done it for this many students in in a while. I think we may have had four or five students that started the cohort uh 2026 that did not um that did not make it due to of you know to to different to different reasons why why they lost their life. All unfortunate, all tragic. Um with that being said, we myself, Mr. Ladear, uh Mr. McCray, we thought it would be very uh advantageous for us to develop a a formal process of how we recognize those students. So, we're not trying to figure something out on a whim. You know, you know, there there have been a lot of different ways that that this has been um
032that this has been done. What we thought and what we um what we kind of put together was something that I'd like to share with the board, get some feedback, and then ultimately we would like to insert this in our handbook. So, in the event that this happens, we don't have to respond by saying, "Hey, give us a minute." or we're working through that. We can refer them directly to the handbook, and we have something solidified with uh regards to how we recognize students. With the understanding that there may be some some scenarios that may be a little different or some situations that may be a little different. Mr. Nadir, I don't mean to put you on the spot, but would you mind talking about that? Do you Do you remember it? I have it
033pulled up, but Mr. Nadir did most of the work on it, so Baccalaureate, right, right. Sure. I love that. Right. >> And we also talked about maybe a 10-second moment of silence when we recognize the Oh, okay. So, you and Mike talked with him. Okay. Okay. Hold on one more. So, with that being said, we wanted to we wanted to make sure that we we we held a a realm of of of celebration for for the commencement and not, you know, have a have a focus and turn turn a ceremony into a memorial in the sense. And we we also wanted to make sure that those parents that that that were experiencing this didn't feel disregarded. So, we Mr. Nadir thought through the process and thought that the baccalaureate would be a a much more
034intimate ceremony where we can even put their picture up you know, invite them and recognize them. So, ultimately, what we would like to do is is you know, formalize this and certain it in our in our student code of conduct and I'm excuse me, in our student handbook and anytime we we get to this situation. And and you know, we pray that that you know, this is not a common common situation, a common practice. This this group went through a lot of lot of tragedy. Lot of tragedy with this with this group. I mean, you're talking about four or five kids that that lost their lives. Um, you know, that's that's a lot. You know, that's that's a lot. And uh I I really had to work through the conversation with mom of the mom
035of one of them and just, you know, let her know that, you know, omitting the young man's name from the uh from the the big board was not intentional, but we did recognize him towards the end right before we turned tassels and he got his own he got his own little minute. Uh so, um you know, hopefully that um you know, that that was sufficient, but nothing would really be sufficient. You know, we understand that, but I just wanted to make sure the board has some clarity on what our what our plan was. >> And are we going to think about staff as well, Mr. Howard? Uh staff or teachers? >> We we could. I mean, we could we could think about something like that. Yeah. Yeah, we could. Yeah, we could. We just wanted
036to make sure we had something in place for Yeah, for students. But yeah, I think I think that may maybe something we could we could consider. >> Add them in there, too. >> What about the signs that you see in people's yards? >> Okay. >> Have you guys thought about adding that to give to the parents? >> I I think we would I think we would maybe have to consider their take on that, the parents take how they would feel about that. And then maybe um if if that is the case, maybe considering something a little different, you know, maybe a more memorium sign, but getting getting them involved, getting the parents involved and having some conversation with them before just handing them one out. But yeah, we we did I did bounce that around
037a little bit as well. >> Well, that could be an option versus a cap and gown. >> Yeah. Just asking would they like a sign? Yeah. >> Because those signs stay there a long time. >> Yeah, for a long time. >> Yes. Yeah, definitely. Definitely excellent. Absolutely. Baccalaureate. >> That's like with me and post posthumously. How do you say that, Ms. Murdock? post posthumously. Yeah. That's one of those words that I would have messed up in the spelling bee. posthumously But I But I appreciate the work that that the team did, you know, and I wanted to make sure the board was was aware that uh because I know I know there was some there were there was some there was some controversy about this. >> Definitely some grumbles. >> Yeah. I and I just
038wanted to >> so. We respect parents and families' feelings. >> Yeah, especially in that situation. >> Absolutely. >> especially that situation. All right. Madam President, I think that's that's all you've asked of me today. >> Next up is the treasurer's comments. >> Yes, I had um on my list for you I mentioned the last meeting that we uh we work with K-12 Consulting for our forecast. We work with K-12 Consulting for our forecasting and they had sent us an updated forecast um just before the last meeting. Not one that we have to file, but just one to help us, you know, as we're as we're checking in at the end of the year and kind of seeing where we are before we would file again in August. At the time they sent it there were
039a couple of discrepancies. We've worked those out now though, so I'm going to send that to you tomorrow. Um and then I will also send the any levy information that I can gather tomorrow. Okay. Um The other thing that I wanted to make sure to say is congratulations to Dr. Isaac on her principal position um and welcome to the district to you as well um Mrs. Moss. So, it's it's will be exciting to work with both of you in a different role. I would also like to say um congratulations to our student athletes and coaches headed to the state track meet this weekend and good luck to them. So, that's all that I have for tonight. Thank you. >> We're just moving right along, let's see. Howard Superintendent comments. >> Just a few this evening.
040Uh and uh first I want to piggyback off um Mrs. Adams with regards to Dr. Jordan Isaacs and Mrs. Moss. Uh Dr. Breonna Isaacs, you uh you you know how um how I feel about you and the expectations that I have for you. I know you're ready and excited to push and we're looking uh we're looking forward to um to your time over there at Westbrook. And Mrs. Moss, welcome to Ram Nation. We are um excited about the the opportunity that has been created for you. Uh we are entrusting you with our babies, as we say, and uh we think that um you know, if we get them off to a good start, they're headed towards a good finish. >> That's right. >> And uh you are you are going to be a key component
041in in ensuring that um that that building over there keeps striving and and those babies are are um getting themselves ready to ready to learn and ready to thrive. Um Couple of other things. Summer food. We started our summer food service program on Monday and we've got uh several sites throughout the community. You may have seen the WHIO piece on on um yesterday, Wednesday. On Wednesday with regards to the summer food program. So, we had our our first bulk um, pick up, grab and go pick up yesterday and we served at Madison Park. We served over 300 students. 300 students. Uh, there were cars lined up when you go to Madison Park, there were cars lined up all the way to Union Road and then there was another line all the way down to the
042to the pavilion and wrapped around the pavilion. It got so hectic that I ended up serving about 20 cars myself. >> Wow. >> So, um, it was a it was a huge success. We were about 150 meals short and uh, now what we're going to do is we're planning for 500 at this point. >> Wow. >> And if you don't know, what we do is we prepare meals for every individual student for 5 days. So, they get um, several, you know, cereal, fresh produce. Every kid gets a gallon of milk. Every kid, every student that you have, gets 1 gallon of milk. So, if you say, you come in and you say I got five kids, you get five gallons of milk. And some of the people were saying, "Oh, I don't need that much
043milk." Well, you got to take it. Give it to somebody down the street. Give it to somebody next door because in accordance to the program, following through with the following and adhering to the guidelines, we have to we have to attach that gallon of milk with the kid. Um, big kudos to uh, Katie Bayes and and Felicia Ray who are running that program. You got some young men over there and some and some ladies over there that are that are helping. Um, they come the cars come in, the kids ask, the young people ask, "How many kids you got?" They they mark it on the they got a good system. They mark that on on the the window and then when the car rolls up, they say, "Five." They they get five meals, we take
044it out to the car and the car keeps moving. >> Wow. >> What we are going to do this week, we have uh reached out to the city of Trotwood and the city is going to provide us a police officer to help with traffic. That was one of the one of the the issues that we had making sure folks weren't running into each other and making sure that, you know, the the flow of the of the traffic was safe. And then the firefighters are going to come and they're going to provide some um some support with serving the serving the meals. So, we're excited about that. We we got a in-kind partnership going, but if you got some free time, come over on Wednesday between 11:30 and 2:00. We usually get done about 1:30 because
045once the food is gone, it's gone. But, just kind of get an idea of of how many how many families families we serve. So, that along with our our sites that are out in the community, we are doing the best that we can to support this community and support our kids. Anybody under the age of 18 can can come and eat and uh we we have uh we have several sites. I've shared that with you. You got another flyer. And with that, towards the end of the summer, once we wrap it all up, I'll give you a total of how many meals we served through the summer. This is our first um this is our first attempt at the at the grab-and-go since COVID. I don't know if you remember doing COVID, we had that
046going on and we have families coming uh because it's a it's a site. We have families coming from from Miamisburg. Yeah, we had two or three families come from Miamisburg. We had New Lebanon. We had some from Englewood. And most of them though are our kids and our families. So, we're we're we're really excited about that program and we we got a chance to see some of the things that that worked. We're going to refine it a little bit. And uh I plan on being over being over there next Wednesday, too, for um, a little while just to just to help out. >> Oh, you're not going to be there the whole time? >> Yeah, we can. >> [laughter] >> Anything. Absolutely. Um, outside of that, the last thing is just, um, we're in the
047midst of summer planning. We had, uh, a good week of, um, of PD. Uh, and I shared that with you guys last time. Ms. Murdock, uh, and her team did a really good job with that. Tomorrow we have our last district PLC meeting. And we are anticipating to have a discussion about some preliminary data. Uh, we are, we are hoping to see a, another increase of our performing index, performance index. You know, with our goal of continuing to ascend and continuing to push achievement in this district. We, uh, we know we got a long way to go, but I guarantee you that, um, and I told you this when, when you guys appointed me here that we're going to keep working on it every day. >> When will we get those numbers? >> The, the
048final numbers will come in the fall. Right. Right. Right. And then, along with chronic absenteeism, I kind of waited on that presentation so we can see where we land with that. So, um, you know, we, we have identified some of those areas where we need to, we, we need to really target and address, but we also acknowledge some of, uh, some of the areas where we, where we've seen some improvement. So, we're, uh, we're anxi- anxiously anticipating, um, sharing that information with you. >> Can you share the preliminary? >> We'll share it, uh, once we finish get it all. Yeah, we'll get it all squared away tomorrow. Yep, absolutely. And then, um, cuz I don't want to give you anything and it's not, it's not cleaned up as that same. I want to make sure
049that we have as much of that data clean as possible. And then uh, as far as staffing is concerned, we are in a much better place than we were a few years ago. We're on we only got a few holes that we have to fill. Uh most of most of our staff staff at this point are licensed teachers. You guys know if you remember a few years ago we we did not have that um we weren't in that situation a few years ago. Uh but we are working Mr. Manley and his team have been working diligently to fill all those holes and we think you know, we got to wait till July 10th because that's the last day before teachers can actually resign or staff members can resign, but we are hoping that we won't
050be scrambling like we like we've done in the past. >> All right. That's all I got. >> All right. >> Does anybody have any questions for Mr. Howard? Next with the board comments and we're going to start with Miss O >> Shaloubi. >> All right. Well, first of all, I just wanted to thank Mr. Howard, Mr. Howard, and Mr. Gill for all of your work that you're doing. Um and just to everybody, I want to give a special shout-out to those summer food workers just ensuring that our families are fed. I know that's a huge hurdle with all the grocery store costs and everything, so I just think that it's huge that we're meeting the need in that way. Um congratulations to Miss Dr. Isaac. I'm so happy to have you over there and just
051to see all the great things that you will do. I know that working with our younger generation is critical work because that's a very critical time in their development. Welcome Miss Moss as well and I'm just I'm really happy to have you guys and just to see the work that you will do. And that's all. >> Mr. Lumpkin. >> So, the the first thing that I want to do is just acknowledge the Trotwood community on behalf of my family with some of the things that we went through last week. Some of you most of you know, some of you might not. Uh Mayor Yvette Page is my mom's younger sister. And you know, she had a medical emergency at the fairgrounds. And it was the people that were from Trotwood that saved her life. And
052we want to make sure that we acknowledge the first responders. We acknowledge the members of our community that made calls, the nurses that performed CPR and brought her back. And um we're happy to report that she's at home and apparently she's allowed to drive. But I just I just rode by her. But um um we just we just really really appreciate the outpouring and the crying and the and the um and the prayers. Um because it just shows how important, you know, she is to our community, our family is to the community. And and we just really appreciate you guys and are humble at the way um you embraced our family and took care of our family during that time. Um congratulations to Trotwood Madison's graduating class. I wasn't here at the last meeting cuz
053I was out of town for work. Congratulations to the class of 2026 on graduating. Um I mean it's just amazing to hear that we're able to feed the community at that wide a scale. So, I'm looking forward to coming out Wednesday and volunteering with Marlon and helping feed the families. And last and certainly not not least, welcome to our newest administrators. As you start your journey here in Ram Nation um as leaders of our buildings, we just want you to make sure that you do what the signs say that are all over Dayton and be relentless in the pursuit of 100% student success. >> I'll say it. Thank you, Mr. Lumpkin. Vice President Mrs. Simmons. >> I would just follow up. I'm with my peers, um Mr. Lumpkin and Mrs. Osanubi. Welcome Ms. Moss. Welcome
054to the district. Welcome Welcome to Ram Nation. Dr. Isaac, I have worked with you for many years. So, I've seen your growth. I've seen you kind of several different positions here in the district and your dedication has not changed. So, we look forward to you taking Westbrook Village to that next level and being our constant in that building. So, you both have each other to lean on. I think it's always easier if you start with somebody. You kind of have somebody to kind of run that by. So, use each other as you go through this process and you have a whole team, Mr. Howard and the whole administration team to lean on those days you just can't figure it out. So, lean to your team for support. Congratulations to Trout with the feeding the summer
055group, the feeding all these families. Thank you so much. I've read about it in the newspaper. I've saw it on media sites. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to the community, the police, and the firefighters that have helped and will be helping out next week as that crowd grows and because we know it's an issue. We know the food desert. We know the high cost of groceries. We know that more families will need that support. So, thank you to this community for always stepping up and helping. For those of you that are going to take some break We want you guys work hard all year long. Take some time for your family. Do some self-care. Do something for yourselves. So, um happy summer break. Happy summer. That's it. >> Okay. Well, Dr. Ella
056Isaac, welcome to your new role. Mrs. Moss, welcome to Trotwood Madison City School District. I am confident that you all will do a [snorts] phenomenal job. What I want you to know, Mrs. Miles, about Rams Nation is that we all matter. So, you will have the support from administrators, you have the support from the superintendent and the board and such that you have our support wholeheartedly. So, welcome. Mrs. Isaac, you know as well you will have our support as well. So, congratulations and welcome. Um to the grab-and-go program, right everyone has said it's phenomenal. Um I see I go to the grocery store and I literally say I don't know how people are making it. It is is unbelievable. So, this program is really helping our our children and I am so elated. And And
057Aaron, you're not going to be the only one over there on Wednesday. >> [laughter] >> You'll have to let me know the tip. Um I want to also um thank the Trotwood Madison High School uh well, a shout-out to the uh JROTC drone team for battling to the finals, earning the uh divisions uh uh runner-up and placing at third place. And also the overall in the teamwork competition and the team B's performance advancing to the quarterfinals, um placing at fifth. And the team brought home the volunteer and um event partner of the year award. So, congratulations to those students. Um again, like Mrs. Adams said, I want to congratulate our students who um qualified for the uh District 2 track and field in in Columbus. So, we are rooting you guys on. And I don't
058know if we mentioned last um board meeting about uh Mr. Stone and Mrs. Johnson for being selected for the Ohio Mid um uh district leadership program. If If I didn't mention it, we did not mention it, I'm mentioning it today and your dedication and commitment is not going unnoticed. So, we appreciate you all. Um, just want to say we want to continue to celebrate our district's outcome and our district's success, but like Mr. Howard says, um, we still have a long way to go, but I do not want it to go unnoticed of the the steps and the progress that we have made. So, kudos to the whole entire district for that. Um, like Vice President said, relax, reset, do something fun. It's summer, enjoy yourselves and get ready to come back and work just
059as hard as you did this last school district for the up and coming district, I mean, um, school year. And that's all that I have. Is there anything else? >> No, I don't think >> Mhm. Is there anything else before I >> I I just want I'm sorry. I want to acknowledge also, you know, I I hate to end on this note, but we did have, um, a young lady that was, um, one of our, uh, former students and a a a bright and shining light. Uh, her her name was, uh, >> Gabrielle Allen. >> She was one of our former students. She had just graduated from the University of Dayton. Uh, and on Mother's Day, correct. And, um, she just graduated from the University of Dayton and she was on her way to a
060Master's program. We're talking about a young lady that was maybe 22 years old, um, that passed away over the, um, over, uh, last week. She, um, I forgot she, but her parents, both her, um, her her mother and father were both graduates of Trotwood and, um, her aunt and uncle were both employees here in the district. Um, our cheerleading program, um all of them are just distraught with the loss of loss of this young lady. So, I do plan on um sending a resolution to the church on on behalf of the board, on behalf of the district, just to acknowledge her. We're talking about someone whose future was just unlimited and her potential was solely untapped and and it it's so unfortunate and and the parents are I actually had a chance to talk to
061dad yesterday. I gave him a call yesterday. He was one of my former students and he has and and Gabby has a brother that plays on our baseball team. >> Oh, wow. >> Uh he's an athlete and he he was really um really happy that I called, reached out to him, and spoke to him. Uh I asked how the how his son was doing and he said his son was was was making it because he's actually the one that found her. >> Wow. >> Uh and he's uh you know, he's going to need some counseling. So, we're we're going to wrap our arms around >> Absolutely. >> wrap our arms around that family to ensure that we provide provide whatever support we can and what's in our means, but I did want to acknowledge acknowledge
062the the Allen family. >> Thank you. >> Very uh very involved family, been in this district a long time. Uh several several students that have that have come through the district and uh you know, losing losing that young lady is uh is a tragedy. It's a tragedy because she was one of those young people that was uh that was going to do whatever she wanted to do. >> Mhm. >> And uh her you know, she was so intelligent, she was always smiling. >> Yes. >> And uh we we hate that you know, that that that has >> Mhm. >> but I'll make sure that we we do have some some type of acknowledgement at the at the service. >> Okay. Okay. Any other comments, questions? I need a motion to adjourn. >> I'll motion. >>
063I'll second. >> Ms. Adams, would you call the roll? >> Yes, Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Oshenubi. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin. >> Yes. Cherry. >> Yes. >> Motion passes. Do you? >> Do you?
