Uh we would like to add number two board items resolution to appoint a board member this evening and then subsequently community comments will become three four and A resolution to fill board of education vacancy per the Ohio Revised Code 3313.11. My apologies. >> So, I need a motion to adopt the agenda with the changes. >> I move that adopt agenda. >> I'll second. >> I'm just going to >> All right. Um, Mrs. Currington, >> yes. >> Mr. Lumpin, >> yes. >> Mrs. Simmons, yes. >> Mrs. Cherry, >> yes. Motion passes to adopt the agenda with the changes and my apologies. Next, do we have any community comments? >> I do not have any comments. There's somebody out there who did not have any comments. Okay. Number three, presentations. >> Thank you. Tonight, this evening, we have a presentation from uh Miss Ra Rachel Murdoch, the director of curriculum here in
005the district. With uh you know, some of the past uh content in our board meetings, I wanted to uh make sure that um as uh the kids say, sometimes we keep the main thing the main thing uh with regards to um the um the focus on student achievement here in the district. Instructional rounds are a process that we have embedded this year. uh Miss Murdoch and her team have um led uh the process and I kind of wanted her to just give an overview of what instructional rounds are, what the purpose is and how we feel like uh this this process will help continue to uh push tribal matters and students ahead with regards to achieve murdock. >> All right. Thank you. Good evening. So yes, so as the superintendent said, we have made the
006commitment to keeping the focus on student achievement. That is our singular focus. We know our students have talent and potential. We want to see it realized. So we started this process of instructional rounds. Instructional rounds are based on the same premise as medical rounds that doctors do. So doctors are traveling in groups when they do that talking about patients and looking for a cure. Okay. For instructional rounds, we're modeling that process. We're traveling in groups. We're looking at instruction particularly the relationship between teacher student content in that instruction and instead of a cure we're looking for achievement. So looking for what's happening and then making those improvements so our students continue to achieve. So we have committed to doing four rounds this year. We did the first set of instructional rounds the week of November
00710th. We just completed our second set of rounds, the week of last week, January 12th. And then we'll do two more, the week of February 17th and the week of March 16th. And each time we do these rounds, we will be having collaborative discussion. We'll be reacting to what we see, putting new things in place, and looking for improvements each time. So I did want to just share some overall trends from our first set of rounds in November because this really served as our basis for this year. We saw some very good things. There were definitely areas of strength. We saw that our students are ready to learn. Both teachers and students were welcoming to visitors. Curriculum was being used. the curriculum that's been adopted, very strong early literacy practices and very positive learning environment.
008So those are areas of strength that we will build on. And then we also saw some areas of growth. So we saw areas of growth in depth of knowledge. That's the DK level in balancing student voice and teacher talk. We know we want our students to express themselves. We saw some areas of growth in increasing student engagement, increasing the fidelity of the use of the curriculum, making sure we're using it as it should be used, and in making sure that learning outcomes were aligned to content standards and to student tasks. So, based on this information, and this is a district-wide view, based on this information, we then refined our expectations for our next set of rounds. And that's a process that we'll continue to follow. So based on that information, I know this is a
009little small, we set new focus areas for observable practices for what we wanted to see from student, teacher, and content. And the main things here, and I won't read the whole slide, but what the the gist is here is that we want to see what the evidence is of student learning. So what's the teacher doing? What's the evidence that that contributes to student learning? What's the student doing that's evidence of student learning? And how is content used to promote that student learning? So, we tailored our observation forms. We met together and we were looking for these things, these observable practices in that second set of rounds. So those did conclude last week and again we summed up those findings from the district level. So at the district level we again see areas of growth. Um
010that is that we did did see more fidelity in the use of district adopted curriculum especially UFly and that's the University of Florida literacy initiative. That's our foundational phonics curriculum. We saw more consistent instructional routines and structures, increased use of hands-on materials and manipulatives, improved alignment between tasks and standards, and more small groupoup instruction. So, students were getting more individualized attention. We also saw some ongoing challenges. And again, this is our our look to what we can do to improve our student achievement. Um, so we still see instruction that's predominantly teacherdirected. So that's an area to work on. We still see learning targets that are not consistently driving instruction, another area to work on. Tasks that are often procedural instead of analytical, limited opportunities for student discourse, and differentiation and extension that are inconsistent and
011not systematic. Okay, these are things to work on. Okay, we know we're not going to get everything right the first time, but we're going to continue to make sure that we get better and better in our practices. And and I will point out that that some of these may even seem contradictory because when you see area of growth as improved alignment between tasks and standards, but then you also see tasks are often procedural, that means that the tasks are aligned. They're just not at the depth sometimes that we need them to be for students to grow. So, we'll continue to work on those. So, as we go into our March rounds, we will share specific information with building principles so they can share it with their staff. So, just like we have a district overview
012for you tonight, each principal, they've already had a debrief with the team, but they'll also see see in writing um some feedback for their building that's specific to their building, so they'll know what to share with their teachers and what to work with with their teachers. And then we will be out again in February. And in February, we'll have some very specific look fors. We'll be looking for students to be able to explain the why, not just the what. So, a little more depth in their voices. We want to look and see learning targets, more specifically reference during the lesson, before it, during it, during tasks. making sure we're seeing planned evidence of differentiation tasks that require analysis, justification or synthesis. So that that's again where we go to depth of knowledge and then less
013teacher talk and more student talk. So we're really hearing the student voices and by hearing those voices knowing that they understand. All right. And then we have developed just a tentative timeline for how we will proceed. So this spring after this second set of rounds, we'll continue continue to establish expectations and revise our monitoring tools. In the summer, we will build capacity with more targeted professional development. Next fall we'll have based on that professional development implementation with the help of PLC and coaching and of course we will continue to monitor and refine practices and that is a summary of instructional rounds. Are there any questions? >> What I'll add is that, you know, this process working with the Ohio Midsize Leadership Group has shown um to really breed continual reflection and and you know, and
014our focus is to to continue to reflect and evaluate what good solid core instruction is. And with this reflection, our our not our hope, but our intent and our expectation is that as teachers continue to get feedback from from the group that goes through and and sits in the classrooms, teachers will take the information that they receive and continue to reflect on their practice. We've uh we've seen some um some some some growth in our students over the over the last year last year and we've shared that before. But what we don't want to do is we don't want to become content. We don't want to become stationary. We want to continue to to to focus on what is good instruction and how instruction can continue to get better. So uh uh kudos to Miss
015Murdoch and her team. I was fortunate enough to go uh on uh a visit uh with the with the group last week and I really enjoyed getting to the class getting into the classrooms. we're over at Madison Park and just seeing, you know, what professional educators are really doing and how they're affecting kids and what the focus is. So, um, we're excited about this process. We're still refining it as, uh, as Miss Murdoch said, but it's definitely something that we're, uh, we're we're committed to with regards to improving instruction. >> Thank you, Miss Murdoch. Good job. Thank you, Murdoch. Next on our agenda is the consent agenda. And I need a motion to approve the consent agenda with item number A, approval of the December 4th, 2025 work session meeting minutes, December the 11th, 2025
016special meeting minutes, and December 18th, 2025 regular meeting minutes. Item B, approval of the harassment, intimidation, and bullying report semester for 2025 2026 school year. And I need a motion to approve the consent agendo. >> Yes. Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Miss G. >> Yes. >> And Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. Motion passes to approve the consent agenda. Item number five is our treasurous report. >> Okay. I have um two things for you this evening. One is uh they're asking for action on both. The first is the approval of the December 2025 financial reports. Um we did have a finance committee meeting this evening. So we reviewed our bank balances. Our total bank balances are uh $2,963,986.51. Our investment account balances equal 19,927,84.85. And our total
017bank and investment cash balance is $22,891,71.36. Um, we do have some outstanding checks which would be checks that we've issued that haven't been cashed. Um, and so our adjusted balance then is $22,511,235.50. That's our bank balance and it matches the balance in the system as well. And that's what we want to see. Um, so I'm also asking within these reports um, approval of our checks over $1,000. We did have one question come out of finance committee tonight and Mr. Howard, I'll probably direct this one to you and it's regarding our our water bill. Just um the committee felt like the water bill is higher than it typically is and they'd asked that we would look into that just to make sure that um that all is well with our our water bill >> with the
018understanding that the city of Twood has just increased the >> they have this is our December bill. >> Okay. This December bill. Okay. >> Well, and it's three months. So, it's it's previous to the increase. So we we just want to make sure. >> Okay. Yeah, we can definitely check into it and just make a comparison to where we were last year. Yes. >> But you know, for the record, every time the toilet's flushed, every time the water's turned on, every time we cook something, every, >> you know, every time any anything that has to do with water, >> uh you uh not you, but in general, sometimes we, >> you know, we we compare it to what we do, but then think of that times 5,000. So, uh we will uh we we'll definitely
019look into it. Okay. >> All right. >> And so I I am asking >> looking for a leap somewhere. That's >> right. Right. >> Yeah. >> Almost $70,000. >> Yeah. We're just a bit >> That's common. >> Yes. >> And so I am asking um for action on approval of those financial reports this evening. I need a motion to approve the December financial report. >> A motion. >> I'll second. >> Miss Adam move. >> Yes. Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpkin. >> Yes. >> Miss G. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. >> The second item I have for you um tonight is also for action. It's a resolution to approve amended appropriations for the period ending January 31st of 2026. And so that is um attached to the
020agenda. Basically um our fi our appropriations were made in July and then we're kind of making a mid-year correction to things. You'll see on there the million-doll transfer back to general fund is accounted for there. Um and then just also an adjustment in our permanent improvement fund where we've we've spent more than was originally budgeted in July. So I am asking for um approval of that this evening. Need a motion to approve the amended appropriations for the period of period ending January 31st 2026. I'll motion second. It's been moved and second. Mrs. Adams. >> Yes. Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Miss G. >> And Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. >> Motion passes. >> And that's all I have for you this evening. >> She will get
021back with us about that. >> Yes. Okay. Yes, we will. >> You hear that, Mayor Paige? >> We gonna make a call out to see you. Oh, the the board is just interested in um the the water bill. >> Next on our agenda is the superintendent's report. >> Right. I do have a few items this evening. Uh a few for information and um two I believe for for action. The first item I have for information this evening. Let me get my computer on the right. The first item for information this evening is item A. Uh approval of the ENLU and transportation payments for the 2526 school year. every February uh or before February, excuse me, we do bring the inlaw of transportation transportation payments to the board. These are the students that the district is
022responsible for paying for their transportation if they attend schools private charter uh parochial outside of the district. If you look at the attachment, those names tenatively those names are listed on the attachment and and board member G, we will get you set up. We couldn't do everything until you were officially officially signed in. But what you will see is a list of all of the students and the districts that they attend. As you scroll through, you you will see uh some of the districts that that um have higher number of students. uh Salem Christian Academy, Mother Bruner Catholic School, and Dayton Regional STEM. The actual payment for in le of did go up this year. Uh traditionally, the last few years it had been right around maybe right under $500. I think this year it
023went up to six like 610 or 615. So, uh, our calculations, I think, still come under what it would cost to transport all of these students. But, uh, due to, um, you know, due to the the law, we are responsible for providing that in payment with the understanding that we will not complete final verification until May. And, uh, what that consists of is Mrs. Rogers calling each one of these schools and making sure the student one still lives in our district and two attended these schools through May. Uh if they started at at the school and left the school or if they moved out of the district, payment will be prrated, but uh we do not do that final um that final calculation until May. All of these individuals are students that have turned in
024their end of payment applications. And that's just for information this evening. Item B is approval of donations. This donation is from the circleke keepers. Dear members of the board of education, I am writing to respectfully request the board accept several generous donations made to the Trotwood Care Closet in support of students and families in the district. Circle of Vision Keepers donated by Kadada Ali, program director. Hat, gloves, and scarf sets. Community Involvement Committee donated by Beverly King, executive director. Again, cats, coats, excuse me, coats, hats, gloves, footies, and socks. And donation number three, the American Legion Post 613, donated by Felicia Phillips and Charles Willer. Three bags of gently used coats. These donations will be on for approval next week. >> Yes. >> Do we do we already have the donation? >> We do. >>
025Right. I I I remember the board did have that discussion about uh about accepting the donations, but officially until we accept them and you guys approve them, we can't distribute them. So, is there any way that we can streamline that? >> We can easily put it on for approval. >> Yeah. Like I think we asked about that or not, but I asked about that before with donations will come in that are supposed to go to the students like it's going to be below zero next Tuesday. Right. Right. So, we will have to wait till the first meeting in February and kids will be able to use those items. Well, um I'm almost certain that we would have to make an amendment and request for approval this evening, but that's at the pleasure of the board
026and working with Miss Adams down here. >> I mean, ahead of the monster winter storm, arctic temperature. >> So, they can get them to the students tomorrow. >> Yeah. So, they will be able to go to Care Closer tomorrow. I just speaking about the care closet, I do know we've recently ordered and received probably 50 adultsized codes that we already had there. And I know that um I did see at least one social worker here today. So I do think we have have gotten some things out to students just as a piece of information. >> Yeah. But I mean it's a resource that you can use. Absolutely. We should expedite us being able to use it. >> Absolutely. time with soats >> coming up. >> Well, so how soon will you be able to get
027the information out to the kids and get >> Are they here? >> The coats are here. Yes, >> they are here. Well, you you know we we can we can share the information to you know tomorrow and we and we've had we have been sharing information especially through the through the the social workers and you know and the guidance counselors. I think what you're asking is can we get these approved tonight and then distribute them >> as needed if if they're needed. I think we have administrators here who probably identify tomorrow >> and you know from the technical perspective we would just have to we'd have to change that from information >> to approval and I think I think we would just have to make that change. Um, >> it would be an amendment to
028the agenda that we've already adopted. >> Yeah, I think we just have to make an amendment to the agenda. >> So maybe >> just so we have to put a motion. >> Yeah, if you put a motion, >> I need a motion. >> So I need a motion to amend. >> Amen. I need a motion to amend the agenda. >> I motion second. >> So Mr. Adams has been moved and second to amend the agenda from item number six report approval of the donations instead of information for approval. I'm sorry. And I did miss who made the motion and who second. Okay. >> I caused the problem. I made the motion. >> Okay. And the second >> I did. >> Okay. Um, we're ready to call the role. >> Yes. >> Okay. Mr. Lumpin. >>
029Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. Yes. >> Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Miss Gist. Yes. >> And Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. So for the record, the pleasure of the board is that when we receive when we receive donations, we put them on for approval. >> Okay. Okay. We'll put them on for approval. So that that that would be um as as they come in. >> Okay. >> All right. So we'll make sure that that that is adjusted. All right. Item number C under superintendent items. I am requesting approval this evening of the AI district policy. I shared this policy with the board last board meeting and again this is a a state template that has been established for school districts throughout Ohio with regards to the use of AI in in our school buildings. This policy is
030is in a sense an overview. We are um working directly with Montgomery County ESC and the other 15 districts in the uh in the county to develop what we are going to label an AI playbook. And this AI playbook will be a more uh kind of a nuts andbolts process that we um we assign some staff members. We have five members within the uh within the community, I mean within the school community that are going to be working with uh members from other school districts to to really sit down and talk about how AI is going to be implemented, monitored, and regulated within our school buildings. Uh we all know that AI is changing every day. It's a it's a major concern uh from from the standpoint of traditionalists, but from those for those that
031are progressive, they're really excited about, you know, the things that AI can do when it comes to, you know, when it comes to education. So, what this policy is is us establishing a policy, having it checking that box that the state requires us to have by June. And then internally we're going to work to have in a sense, you know, ground level processes when it comes to uh AI and that's going to be a that's going to be a a a county a county initiative and uh I I'll update you guys on that as we as we proceed proceed with that. But this is the the standard district policy that I'm asking for approved proceed. >> I have a question. You said that will be implemented by J. >> The policy has to be approved
032>> by J. Yes, the policy has to be approved by so all across the state with this state template that has been sent out, people are approving the policy and then working through those ground level details on, you know, what AI looks like in in in the buildings. But this speaks to the ethics. It speaks to the um the definitions, the purpose statement, you know, those general overviews with regards to that. So like um Superintendent Howard said, he has provided us with this information at the last board meeting. We had an opportunity to review what was taking place. I need a motion to approve the AI district policy. Motion second. Mrs. Adams. >> Yes. Mrs. Simmons. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Miss G. >> Yes. >> Mrs.
033Cherry. >> Yes. So, the motion passes to approve the AI district policy. >> Thank you. Item D is a request for approval again for the for action, excuse me, for approval of the 2627 school calendar. The um negotiated agreement requires us to uh work directly with the TMEA to propose a couple different calendars through them. one that the the management proposes, one they propose, and we sit down and we, you know, we kind of dissect those, and then we we come up with a um a recommendation for the board that is that is most beneficial to the students of of Tribal Madison City Schools, the students and families. There was some um some some very u uh good discussion with regards to some consideration in the future about looking at, you know, school start times,
034the dates. uh we felt that it was it was a little too early to uh to make you know some of those would be considered drastic changes initially but there will be some dialogue in the summer with regards to u maybe considering that but your attachment and again uh Miss G I'm sorry I'll make sure you have all this information your attachment has a copy of the of the calendar very similar to to what we did this year uh note on November 3rd there will be a a um a day where students are out of school for for the election and then otherwise the the majority of you know of the dates are very similar to what we what we've had over the last couple of years. First day of school being the the 17th
035and first day for staff being the 11th of August. 17th of August and 11th. and I'm asking for action on the calendar approval of the calendar this evening. Are there any questions? >> Need a motion to approve the 2022 2027 school calendar. >> Motion second. >> It's been moved and second. Mrs. Adams from Colorado. >> Yes. Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. Yes. >> Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Miss G. >> And Mrs. Cherry. Yes, >> motion passes. >> Okay, one more. Miss G, you may have a orange folder up there with all of that stuff printed out on the two. Here we go. The last item I have for approval this evening is the personnel agenda. The personnel agenda was shared with the board on Friday. There are no changes to the personnel
036agenda. Again, very um very light agenda this evening. with the um quick review and and what you guys have uh had a chance to look at prior. I am asking for approval of this evening. >> Are there any questions for the personnel agenda? >> I need a motion to approve the personnel agenda. >> I'll second. Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. Yes. >> Mrs. Currington. >> Yes. >> Miss Gus, >> Mrs. Cherry, >> I abstain. Motion passes for the first. Item number seven is discussion items. I have two discussion items this evening. The first is just a reminder of two events we are um we are partnering with the Montgomery County ESC in. On your on your desk uh likely by your water bottle or under your water bottle, you just have a general
037overview of the Franklin B. Walter. And I shared this information last evening, but I'm just going to keep keep reminding you to make sure you guys keep it in your um keep it in your in your sights. Get it on your schedule. Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award banquet will actually lunchon. This year will be a lunchon. I think last year it may have been in the evening. This year it will be a lunchon. Uh it's going to be on April 16th from 2026. The uh Franklin B. Walter scholarship is a scholarship named after former state superintendent Franklin B. Walter and each year the Ohio Educational Service Center Association shines a spotlight on some of the most dedicated high school seniors from every county in Ohio. Our ESC will rec recognize 15 students this year from
038each of the uh each of the districts. 15 additional students including ours. So that makes a total of 16. Those students uh have exhibited high academic achievement, leadership, service and service to their communities. The senior well we have not completed the nomination form. I will have the information with regards to who our our senior recipient recipient is this year and I think that student uh will receive $1,000 from u from the McGomery County ESC. Remember, I have uh RSVPd those that said they were interested in going. Uh if you are uh interested and you um you didn't let me know you wanted to attend, just let me know and I can get that. have to RSVP by the 13th of March, April 16th, 11:30 at the Marriott UD. That's Franklin B. Walter. The second discussion
039item I have for you guys is the policy issues template and draft for the business advisory council meeting. This is the other organization. We are in partnership with the Montgomery County ESC. Districts either have to be a part of a BAC collaborative or they have to have their own. Uh we have over the last several years been a part of the Montgomery County Business Advisory Council. This draft that I have given you is a scope is excuse me is a draft of the scope of work for the BAC meeting and will be discussed on February 26 at 5:30 p.m. through the Montgomery County ESC and the partnership districts. One board member has to attend and I think you guys have already let me know who was going to attend the DAC meeting. I think we
040discussed that one too. So, we're good to go. And Mrs. Murdoch will be attending representing the district from the administrative standpoint. And then, uh, one board member will need to attend. The meeting is from, uh, 5:30. Usually ends up finishing about 7 7:30 and, uh, the scope of work will be discussed with regards to the business business advisory council. So, I just wanted to make sure you guys had had this on your calendar and were aware of what that what that draft looks like that will be discussed. I shared last uh last last meeting I won't be able to attend because we're supposed to be taking my daughter on a college visit. >> What's the date again, Mr. How? uh February 26, 5:30m and this is also at the Marriott and that's all I have.
041>> Okay, thank you. Item number eight is the treasur comments. >> Yes. Um I just wanted to share that I was able to attend a property tax update with um auditor Carl Keith today and we will be using some of that information as um you know we plan for our February forecast that is is coming out if there doesn't look like there are too many major changes. Um, I also wanted to share that we did receive notification from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce that our reduction plan we submitted in December was accepted and approved. So, um, our our forecast will generally except for maybe some small small changes reflect everything that was in that plan. So, you will get a February forecast update from me, the first meeting in February, and I'll ask
042for you to approve our February forecast, which is new. It used to be in May, but they've changed the timelines of financial forecasts throughout the state. Um, and so, so really, I guess my update is our plan was approved. Our forecast will look very much like our plan because we are required to take action on what we submitted. Um, and that is all that I have for you tonight. >> Thank you. Number nine, superintendent comments. >> Just a couple uh comments, but uh before that I I want to welcome uh Miss Giz to the board. I look forward to um to working with you in the capacity of um of a board member. We have uh a lot of things going on and lots going to be coming at you fast. But uh remember and
043understand that uh through your board colleagues and and me as the employee of the board uh I'm here to uh answer any questions that I can and support you uh through through this journey. I I know in our very brief interaction uh you you appear to be a student first and um you know my my thoughts are as long as you you know you stay that way you're going to be a fine you're going to be a fine boy. So, best of luck to you and if you need me for anything, uh, just let me know. Just a couple things on your on your desk. I have this was originally, uh, put together for Miss Giz, but we decided to just give everybody one. And I think the majority of you may have this already.
044You may have some of this similar information, but we put together a board member uh, just a board member handbook with some district information in it. And again, the the four of you have already seen the majority of this stuff, but I didn't want to feel like I was coming bearing gifts and didn't have something for everybody. Um, most of the information from from the standpoint of being a new board member for Miss Giz, you guys have been familiar with. Um, if you open it up and you look at the table of contents, we talk about the district vision and the vision, the strategic plan, which Miss Gus, I I'll I'll, you know, make note to here in a little bit, but also has a school calendar, board meeting calendar, has some uh board policies
045that are very relative to what you guys do as far as um the work um every day. code of ethics, uh some guidelines on the the the sunshine law, district organizational chart, some information about the role of a school board, five five rules for great school board members, and then uh really a section about student achievement and how a school board can uh be, you know, in the driver's seat when with regards to uh to student achievement. So, I wanted to make sure that everybody had one of these. And, you know, with with that being said, I wanted to just highlight for Miss Giz this evening the the district strategic plan. That is um that's number one on the table of contents. And, you know, these board members who are, you know, who are current
046have, you know, heard me talk about this several times. This is a document that uh we have put together with regards to our our vision and our mission for tribal Madison City Schools and our strategic goals. We are uh really trying to uh change the narrative with regards to the focus of what trial with Madison City Schools is about and we've seen some of that early work through our our our achievement scores from uh you know from last from last year. Now the work that myself and my staff have to do is continue pushing forward. uh you know you know sometimes success can be uh you know can lead folks to just becoming content as I stated before and our our focus is to keep our strategic plan our strategic goals in the forefront and
047make sure that um we continue focusing on student achievement here in this district. So please take a look at this at your leisure. If you have any questions let me know. Again, you four have already seen the majority of it, but I wanted to make sure that you had uh this. And then the last section, it talks about some data. We'll make sure that we um we share that information with you. And this is a document, I mean, a binder that you can just keep loading things in at your um at your convenience once we uh once we get everybody up to speed on that. Um just a couple updates, couple things going on in the district. The science fair will be held at Westbrook Village Thursday the 29th. So if you have a chance
048to stop by West Village and pop in and come check out the science fair, we uh we always have a a really good uh participation really good participation rate. produce the projects are awesome and we get an opportunity. Miss Harden invites a lot of people to um to judge and uh it's pretty pretty cool to get get a chance to see our students uh brains in action with regards to that. And then also um I shared this flyer again last week last last meeting the Miss West also having their family bingo night on the 29th. So, those are the only other comments I had this evening along with your your your pretty binders, pretty red binders, too. Like I said, >> I wanted to make sure that I didn't just, you know, shower miss with
049gifts. I want to make sure everybody had a chance to get get something. All I got, this chair. >> Okay. Thank you, Mr. Howard. >> You're welcome. Item number 10 is board member comments. And I don't know if we're going to be changing the order for the next meeting, but for tonight, we're going to start with Mrs. Well, good evening everyone. Um, congratulations board member Giz. Welcome aboard. We are anxious to have you and can't and looking forward to working with you. Um, I wanted to really say something about to Carter, the 5-year-old who read the Nisha's statement. He read that statement better than some adults. I am when when I see something like that, that shows me that we are doing something fantastic in Trotwood. So, kudos to the ELC um and Miss Turner
050um because that was just it was fabulous. I mean, he he wasn't scared, he wasn't shy um and that's that was really exciting. And as always, I thank all the administrators for showing up tonight. I know you guys had a long day. So, um, Miss Harding, good to see you, Miss Mallerie, uh, Mr. Gibson, Mr. McCrae, uh, Miss Murdoch, and Mr. Manley, and Mr. Graham. Um, thank you guys for coming out tonight. And hello to the community, Erica's um, family that came out tonight. Make tell some of your neighbors and friends that they should come out more to see what's going on here in Trotwood. Um, and so, um, this one right here, I cannot sit next to him. I cannot sit next to Eric. I was going to change my seat, but I did
051not want to do that to our new board member. So, but I but right now at right now, I I don't know. Um, yeah. So, and and hello to Mayor Paige. >> All right. Thank you, Mr. Lumpin. >> I'm not going to use any of my time to respond to what just happened to me. So, if it Miss Sterner, hello. That's what I was telling her that you were in the crown as well. While the rest of our hi >> I didn't hear it. I didn't hear it. >> But this is what I have to do. >> Hey, but listen. First, congratulations, Erica. Welcome to the board of education. As you can see, we have fun along with doing the work. Yes, >> but um I did want to talk about a item in the
052superintendence report which was item A the approval for transportation payments in lie of transportation and I want to talk about what they are. They are another form of a voucher that comes out of public money that we have to pay for private schools to transport students out of our district. So, this is another thing, another attack on public schools by the state house in Ohio. And the reason why I think it's important to highlight when these things are on our agenda, when we have to pay them, is because we have to do a better job. We have to be really loud about the attacks on public schools. Miss uh Adams talked about us having to submit the documentation to the state of Ohio about what kind of reductions we have to make. Those reductions impact
053our ability to educate our students. And we have to say it from behind the desk as loud as we can so that everyone can hear it. When we see things that are vouchers that get taken out of public money and put into private schools. So, anytime that we see that, I'm going to highlight it. I know the last few board meetings I was really really loud about it, but as we get closer and closer to making the decision to take teachers from in front of our students only because the state legislature has decided that they're going to attack public schools, it's our responsibility to say something about it. >> Well said, Mr. Thank you for sharing. Vice President. >> Thank you, Mr. Lumpan. Thank you everyone who came out. Welcome, Erica, to our group of
054board members. As you see, we have a colorful personality, but we definitely get the work done. So, we welcome you. Um, we know that you are passionate about kids and mental health of kids, and you'll be a great asset to this group. So, welcome. Um, thank you, Jill, um, for getting that report done. We know that was a a daunting task. Um and we're glad to have gotten that approved as we gear up for this code weekend. Glad the board thought for sight to go ahead and get those coats out tomorrow. And I think I will just close with that. >> Well, thank you. And um I should have asked this if she had any comments before vice president um send. So do you have any comments? I'm sorry. >> I just want to say
055um thank you to the board. Um I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to serve my community um our staff, our students, um and our families. And I would like to say Carter's last name was Simmons, but he's not any kin to me, but I will adopt him. I will take that. >> Oh, yeah. One last thing. We did a swearing in. The mayor wore a North M outfit, but it is the Trial Madison swear. We'll excuse her. >> And this is what we have to put up with. Mayor Paige, talk to your sister. Um yeah, kind of follow. I just want to say um congratulations to our newest board member, Erica. Look forward to working with you. I'm quite for sure that you will brainstorm with us and um just be ready to take
056flight with us. So um congratulations. I also wanted to um congratulate um we have three board I mean three band students who received a full ride scholarship. So, I wanted to just say congratulations to them. Um, that's that's awesome. Um, I believe it's at to Pine Pine >> Arkansas. Yes. So, congratulations to those students and congratulations to the students who made the honor role. Um, that just goes to show you that we have good kids in Trotwood and they are making a mark towards excellence, academic excellence. And for those students who have not made honor roll, just continue to work as you as much as you possibly can. Um, reach out to your your teachers, the administrators, um, if you need any additional assistance or anything like that. That's what we are actually here for.
057Um, I had an opportunity to attend the the drone uh, competition and uh, a few board members we attended and I learned something. I didn't go just to just I did go to support but I actually learned something and it was exciting and so to see what our students are capable of I mean it's just tremendous so shout out to them and then I believe we had some students to go to bequick >> um Mr. power they went um >> for the um >> the skills business class >> right for the right the business >> classes right they participated in that constitution out there >> right and so we had three students there that um actually qualify so I'm I'm so happy about where we are going where the students are going um that's what
058it's about that's what the board of education is about it's about student achievement so I just want to say congratulations to um our students I wanted to say every minute matters, every student matters, every staff person matters, every administrator matters, and every board member and we all matter. We're all in this together. And um the last thing I would like I would like for Mr. Lumpin actually to just um give us a little information about the gentleman that you you just took um to school. Um, so yeah, so this this past Monday, um, Jamarcus Weiss, I took him to the University of Maryland where he enrolled early as a student, a business student at the University of Maryland where he's going to be on a football scholarship. And um I think Jammarcus' story, a lot
059like his brother Juice, is one of perseverance and one of never looking at the things that go on around you. Um he lost his parents, both of his parents. Um and his community, his other family members have uh have stepped in and helped him. But through that he maintained a 3.7 grade point average at Crowwood Madison. Um tested off out out of the charts was an unblockable defensive tackle for us that unfortunately uh Torres Patel attended in our game against um in our in one of our games this past season. But he's such a successful athlete that he was still able to get the offer from Maryland and go to Maryland. Um but I think the part to highlight about him is the academic achievement and the reason why it's important to understand that one
060of the things that we say is we have it. You'll see all that on on all of our advertising. Jammarcus took place in college credit plus. He went to Sinclair was a student at Sinclair. So he's enrolling in Maryland already a sophomore at the end of his sophomore year. So during his time playing football, he'll graduate from the University of Maryland, which I'll point out is very hard to get into in about three years. Okay? But he was able to achieve that because of the academic standards set by our administrators that are in the room, by our educators that are in the classroom, and by Marlin and and our curriculum directors. So, if you're a student out there, it doesn't just have to be an athlete. Jammarcus is one of our shining examples, but if
061you're a student out there that's a freshman about to be a sophomore. My nephew John, he's got a 4.0 this past semester. He's going to graduate from Charle Madison next December and he's going to be a college sophomore, almost a college junior when he does it. So, we have the ability to educate you. you have the ability to get high level education and that's why pointing to the information that was shared today um about us doing the comprehensive review of how teaching is happening in our building. We have outstanding principles and leaders in our building. So anybody that's from outside of here that wants to say anything different, you're not telling the truth. Trial is on a far different path. Our board of education doesn't that's why we got rid of our word salad of
062a plan that our last board put together that really didn't talk about accomplishing any goals >> it would that's what it was but it's a very strict strategic plan and we take our students achievement very seriously and um I'm tired because I've been driving 25 hours this week but I will tell you I'll drive 25 hours any day of the week and one last thing this is something that I'm going to be going for the next six years. I was sitting down and reflecting as Jammarcus left and I'm like, man, this is going to happen with John next year. It's going to happen with Juice the following year, with the Cena after that, but we'll get to see our students go out and represent our communities as well. >> So, >> thank you, Mr. Thank
063you. >> Hey, you got you got to pay me if you going to put me on the spot like that. >> See what we have to put up with. It's not just Currington. It's not me. >> And um our superintendent has one last. >> Well, this is just uh in reflection to um to the concern about the um the impending weather situation. I just want to um just remind everybody that you know we will be working when I say we uh myself and the uh the maintenance staff working through through the weekend to um to do the best we can if we you know if we get with us it's always that day. >> You know we don't make any any decisions until we know for sure that that that it's coming or it's actually
064coming. But we'll be working through the weekend, you know, with the fact that, you know, the with they're anticipating Sunday, Sunday evening, Sunday afternoon, and then, of course, with the frigid temp temperatur temperatures. So, um, you know, if you know, we get to that point, I will I will make sure I share with everybody the decision that um, you know, that we made. You know, I've heard the the catastrophic storm, and I've heard all of these things and then >> is it a 78? Yeah, we we've seen and heard that before and then we get it dusty. >> So, uh we'll just um we'll we'll do the best we can. We'll pay attention to it and uh make the best decision and the safest decision for for people. >> And I will add that um
065Mr. Howard and the team does a phenomenal job of getting the information out as soon as they possibly can. So for those who make comments on social media, um there there are steps that we have to take. We just can't put that information out there and and don't have any support behind it. So I want to thank Mr. Howard and um the Trotwood team for ensuring the safety of our students and staff. Um and that's all the comments the comments. So at this time we will move into executive session to consider the appointment, the employment, the discipline, the dismissal, promotion, the motion or compensation of a public employee or official or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public official employee official licency or regulated individual per policy 0166 and OC121.22 22 G1 action
066may be taken. I said I need a motion. >> Motion a second. >> It's been moved and second that we were enter into executive session at 6:36. Call the roll. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Would you I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Let me call a roll. Please call a roll. >> Mrs. Currington. Yes. >> Mrs. Simmons. Mr. Lumpin. >> Yes. >> Mrs. G. And Mrs. Cherry. >> Yes. And it's still a 636. It's her birthday and
