Hi, good evening. I would like to call tonight's um board of education meeting to order. Please stand for the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you, Mr. Price. Mrs. Davis >> here, >> Mr. Fox >> here, >> Mrs. Packard >> here, >> Mr. Reic >> here, >> Mr. Whitehead >> here. >> Um, tonight we have visitors from Van Cleave. This is always the highlight of every board meeting is when we get to hear from our students. Um, so Mr. Sadler, I thought I saw him in here. >> He's here. Yes. >> Sorry. >> Apologize. Um, do you want to introduce or I won't do much of
the talking at this point. So, uh, we're honored again to present to the board. Thank you so much for the invitation. Um, we wanted to do combine two things for you. One, tonight our students going to share with you sort of an example of how we start our day every morning with a morning program called Bay Cleave today. It's just our version of a morning radio show. And um, but we also um, many of you have been on board long enough to remember when Mr. Piper first came here, one of the things his initiative was having all students in grade seven and above be connected with activities or sports because there's lots of research that shows when students are connected with teams or sports and activities, their participation, their feeling of connectedness to school, their
attendance all go up. So from Van Clean's point of view as a sixth grade building, we've been trying to support that from the very first day that I started as principal. We reached out to community agencies. We invite um youth sports leagues to come in and speak to our students. Um there we invite junior high folks over to talk about the next activities in junior high. Um but we also create more activities at our building level um for our students to participate in. One of which is Bay Cleave today the morning edition and some other things that you'll learn about. So without further ado, I present Cle today. Good evening and welcome to Van Cleave today board of education edition. I am Alex Cop a sixth grader at Van Cleave. Today we are going to
share with you opportunities for student leadership at Van Cleave. We are presenting information in the format of our morning announcements. Today is Monday, April 13th, 2026 and today is a Dday. Today's top stories come from our local state and national news. Today we're bringing you several Van Clee reporters who will be telling you all about the opportunities for students leadership available at our school. First we have a Abram Harper and Alex sharing their experiences at the Ohio Middle Level Work Association's student leadership conference. >> Hello, I'm Parker Bell and at Cleveland I'm involved in student council. I'm April May and at Van Cleave I'm involved in I'm Alice Cop and at Van Cleave I'm involved in basketball. >> On Tuesday, March 10th, we went to Edison State Community College to participate in the Ohio Middle
Level Association Student Leadership Conference. >> While at Edison, we met and interacted with other students in grades 5 through 8 in our local schools. We participated in a variety of team building activities toward the campus and had a tasty lunch provided by the During our tour of Edison, we were able to participate in hands-on activities related to careers at Edison offered at Edison. In the lab, we investigated whether or not certain fluids were contaminated. In the welding lab, we were able to see the welding process and play tic-tac-toe with a robot. Next, we have Becket and Olivia sharing their experiences participating in the future begins today leadership program. I'm Olivia Weber in the band. I'm involved in band the future begins today in the business. I'm Becky Mcco and at Van Cleaves I'm involved in
the future begins today and am the captain on my soccer team. Through leadership club we have learned that characteristics of an important leader are being a good role model, demonstrating responsibility, respecting ourselves and others and making good choices. During our leadership club meetings, we have helped our group gather items for a canned food drive to help people in our community. During our meetings, we work on team building through playing games with others. This helps build communication skills and learn how to work well with others. Now, Payton and I will be sharing our experiences participating in safety patrol. >> I'm Payton Bur and at Van Cleave I'm involved in orchestra safety patrol and the program. I'm Ariana Green and at Van Cleave I involved in safety patrol, flag duty, student council, and I co-anchor the morning
announcements. The reason I wanted to join safety patrol at Bank was to help keep people safe. We have to follow rules in and out of school to help people stay safe. I enjoy being busy patrol because we can have fun while doing our job. There have been many times where I have felt well or didn't want to do patrol vetting, but I pushed through because I knew the job I am doing is important to our school. I have enjoyed being part of a variety of leadership groups at Vancou announcements program. With the morning announcements, we have a team of people who rotate weeks to help share the daily announcements. I also participate in student council. This year, we have spread kindness through our school by giving each student a boo, which was a Halloween themed
sucker, wrapped like a ghost. We are also taking care of our community by by collecting items for the St. Pat. Now, did you know April is National Poetry Month? So, who have a photo of your talents. >> The word poem comes from a Greek poama meaning a thing made and a poet is historically seen as a maker of things. In many ancient societies, poets were viewed as sages, prophets, or advisors due to their perceived ability to capture profound truths. >> Weather today was 76 and sunny with wind gust up to 24 miles an hour. Lunch today was cheeseburger, onion rings, fruit, and milk. >> We have a few birthdays to celebrate today. Happy birthday tomorrow to Miss B. Tune in every school day for Van Cleaves today morning edition. Remember to dream big, work hard,
succeed, and have a great Trojan day. Mrs. Davis, to your right there's a a folder. >> I passed it down. >> You passed it down. Great. Those are pictures from uh the OMLA >> conference, some of the action shots. And then there's a copy of the script template that they use when they create their morning show every day. >> If there are any questions for the students, they will entertain questions at this time. >> So, how do you decide which stories to cover every morning? Um there's like so we have a calendar of certain stories that happened that day. >> Okay. >> And we and then we like write it down. >> Okay. >> Well, I'm especially proud for all of you that you came out here and did this because I know this is
hard. >> It's hard at my age. >> I was going to say the same thing. >> I can't imagine your age. I I have to present all the time and it's it's stressful >> and you guys are all very good at it and you'll be surprised how many doors that'll open up being able to present as fluidly as you do. >> Now, how how do you choose who's part of this group? Do you have to try out with presenting or is it um how do you how do you select? >> You want to talk about how the morning show cast is selected on a regular basis. Ariana, you can do this. Ariana is my lunch buddy. I've known her for two years. She's better at speaking than I am. So, some students that like aren't
part of a student council will come and talk to Miss Galiz if they want to do announcements, if they've heard about it from like their friends and Miss Kiss will organize a um it's a packet and it has like certain weeks that you'll do it and each person does it for two weeks and then you switch to the next person and then that's just how it goes. >> So, Ariana, her dad's next to me. Ariana is being a little bit um garden and shy. Ariana started out as one of our rotators and she loved it so much she actually went and asked like can I do more? So we still rotate but as far as the featured stories like you know um women's history month. Ariana was like can I do a women's history month
fact every day? Sure. So now it's actually called a moment with Ariana. It's like her new featured spot. And so now she's doing um this month is poetry appreciation month. So now she's doing a poetry morning spot with REI. So she's created her own little feature for the morning announcement. >> They do they do a wonderful job. >> Very good. Um, I was one of the kids that I when I first saw Ariana on the announcements, I was like, "Oh, I want to do that." So, I went to Miss Scaliz and had asked her like, "Can I help with the announcements?" And she was like, "Sure." And she like made a calendar of like two week like gaps of people and it was like lined up with your names and so you know like which
weeks you're going to speak on the announcements. >> How many total are part of the crew? They have a lot. >> The calendar gets mixed up. >> Okay. >> There are two co-presenters every week >> and then there's a featured presenter thrown in. So there's like three people every week and there's probably 12 total people because it rotates every Monday. >> Okay. >> I think that's a great lesson in leadership too, right? When somebody else steps out and does something, you never know who you're inspiring, right? So when you think about like, wow, is this going to matter if I do this or is it going to matter if I don't? You know, be willing to take that step and you never know who's going to want to follow you. So that's awesome. >> Thank
you all so much for coming. Do you want to introduce who came with you tonight? Ariana, do you want to go ahead and start? I guess your dad's back there. >> I've been called out. >> Um, I'm Ariana Green and my dad brought me. Um, I'm Alex and my mom and my dad's back there. >> I'm Jack. >> Okay. >> I'm Becky Mel and my mom's here. I'm Olivia Leard and my mom is here. I'm Avery and my dad and my mom Christopher. >> I'm Harper and my mom and dad brought me here. Thank you all so much for coming. Thank you for sharing Bankley today with us. Uh you do not have to stay for the rest of the meeting if you do not want to. It's not nearly as exciting as what you
guys do, >> but thank you so much for joining us tonight. >> Great job again. the only other. >> Oh, you >> um I have to hold them. >> Oh, okay. >> No, it's good. You're fine. Is this you, Mr. Stler? >> This is Okay. >> I'll do that. Should I do that now? >> Whenever you want to, but it' be nice. >> Okay. >> Whatever. >> So, while we had uh guests from Vanc, it looks like we also have another class here tonight. Um, so we have members of Leadership Troy here this evening. Um, we're gonna put you on the spot if you want to introduce yourself. And >> who wants to start? >> We know Kathy. >> They don't need me. >> That explains >> the presence of Miss Roer. >> I'm sorry.
>> Lindsay Taylor. >> Hi, Lindsay. >> I'm Ron Scott. >> Hi, Ron. >> And I'm Ryan Shipley. >> Hello. I'm >> Hi, Megan. >> Blair Elliott. >> Hi, Blair. >> I'm Nathan Kleps. >> Nathan. Is that everyone here tonight? >> That's it. >> All right. Thank you guys for coming. Appreciate you being here tonight. >> And before we get into the reg regular part of the agenda, um you might notice these big blocks back there and this little um sign back there in the window. So, tomorrow begins kindergarten registration uh for the class of 2039. >> Oh, >> I know what I'm thinking. 2039. >> It's fine. >> So, uh they have a lot of neat things planned for the kids. Uh should be a great day. Hey, we try to roll red carpet for
incoming kindergarteners and thanks to Mrs. Dedric and her staff for allowing us to use their nice space over here. So, that'll be tomorrow it starts. >> All right. >> Um, so rolling into board committee reports. Mrs. Davis, >> uh, yes, their board met February 19th. Um, same story, different day. >> Uh, working on repairs for the roof and the painting. Still in process. repairs are underway. The temporary patches are underway. >> The quote was approved late last week. >> Okay. >> We should be receiving a check soon and we'll be able to lock the true repair in and as soon as product is available and delivered, I'm sure that will get started. >> Okay. Thank you for that update. Um along with that, there is a ball 50th anniversary uh the first Saturday of May
if anybody's interested in that. There's already 220 tickets sold plus 50 staff members. The board uh the trips are going well, all filling up. And there was a table I talked about last time. There was a debacle with the table that has been in there forever. And a caterer laid some hot things on it and it turned into a little bit of a panic for all of them, but they did get it done. Uh a company called Henderson's, they're going to refinish it uh for $10,000, but it will go under the caterers insurance. It's taken care of. David Wine has calmed down. We're good. >> I'm sure he was. >> Yes. So, uh, beyond that, there's really there's nothing new. >> Mr. Fox, do you have anything from the Upper Valley? >> Uh, I was
actually out of town. Okay. Um, at the last meeting, so I don't have anything. >> So, next, um, we have what's called public hearing on the reemployment of Jeffrey Price. Mr. Price is our treasurer. We're holding a public meeting on the issue of re-employing Jeffrey Price following retirement under the school employees retirement system in the position of treasurer chief financial officer. Those attending this meeting are now afforded the opportunity to comment on such proposed reemployment. There's anyone in the public that has a comment at this time? All right. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Price. Dr. Moore. >> Okay. Thank you. May I please have a motion for um consideration of the approval of the minutes of the regular meeting from Monday, March 9th? >> So moved. >> Thank you, Mr. Fox. >> Second. >> Thank
you, Mr. Reic. There any comments, questions? >> Mr. Price? >> Mr. Fox? >> Yes. >> Mr. Rick? >> Yes. Mrs. Davis, >> yes. >> Mr. Whitehead, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packer, >> yes. >> May I please have a motion for the financial report? Attached. Exhibit B is the March 26 SM2 monthly total revenues, monthly total expenditures, etc. May have a motion to review and approve. >> So move. >> Thank you, Mr. Whitehead. >> Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Reic. Mr. couple highlights. Um we received final settlement with um the first tax bill that went out uh back in January. We received final settlement late last month um which incorporates none of the changes that was approved by legislation. Um >> so it doesn't include the levy reduction. It it includes that aspect, but nothing associated
with the large increases in value and rolling back because we're at the 20 mil floor. Um, some of those increase limitations. Uh the department of taxation supposedly has sent information to all 88 county auditors offices. There is what I'm hearing second or third hand is they're not in agreement as county auditor groups. I think there's some questioning on interpretation of some of the language. Uh so nothing's been released to us yet. We don't know what the dollar effect is going to be to us with those late legislative actions in Columbus that um was approved and signed by the governor in late December. So soon as I know more, I'll certainly pass it on to all of you. um the self-imposed reduction that did take place, but that only affected our two outstanding bond issues only
and we've collected enough to um meet our debt service payments. So, which is what we assumed and had pre-calculated and that has all panned out so far. As far as income tax, we will know where we end up for the year at here at the end of April. Uh state grants and aid, both restricted and unrestricted. We're right in line with what we anticipate as well as um personnel and benefit cost. We're hitting our marks there. um supplies and purchase services. Um we're a little ahead of the game there on a positive side for us. Uh we're not spending what we budgeted so far, so that's a good thing. In Capital Outlay, we've purchased all of our um equipment and things like that in a timely manner and we're hitting our marks there. So, um,
as far as fiscal year, we're right where we thought we would be at this point. Any questions from the board? >> I don't have any any. >> Please call the role. Mr. Preston. >> Mr. Whitehead. >> Yes. >> Mr. Reic. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fox. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Davis. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Packer. >> Yes. May I please have a motion for then and now Ohio Rise Code 570541D1 provides a prior certification of funds by the fiscal officer was not obtained before the contract or order involving the expenditure. The fiscal officer may instead certify >> so moved. >> Thank you, Mr. Ric. Second, Mr. Davis. >> One from Hainer, one from Miami Monosuri, one from Troy Christian. how we handle their um state dollars for them and and then one from hook. Nothing major
there. I believe all those were just uh timing right at the end of the month. >> Okay. >> Any questions, comments? Mr. Price, >> Mr. Rick? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Davis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Mr. Whitehead. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fox. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Packard. >> Yes. >> Please have a motion and second for tax rates. Ohio Revised Code section 570534 requires boards of education and all other units of local government to approve tax rates each year after these rates have been certified by the county budget commission. >> Motion to approve. >> Thank you, Mr. Reic. >> Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Fox. Mr. Right. >> We originally received this um on the date of our last board meeting. Of course, it was too late to get on that agenda. Um upon my review,
uh they had a couple items that were incorrect and hence it's before you this evening. But I can tell you it's still not correct in dollar value wise because it's taken into account none of the changes on a financial side. with the same legislation that took place at the end of December. This is based upon everything as it sat at the time prior to those legislative actions because they have no direction yet. So they don't know how to adjust anything yet. >> So we will be approving rates at some point later this calendar year. Is there just FYI, >> is there a deadline when >> they are required by law to get something out and they got it out, but they knew it wasn't right. >> Yeah. >> And I questioned that and said, "Well,
we're meeting the law by getting you a number." >> I said, "Well, they're setting everybody up to make mistake." >> Yeah. So, should we >> So, >> if we know this is wrong, should we accept it and approve it like knowing it's wrong or >> We are supposed to. Yes. because we're reappointing >> and we can add that language. >> We're accepting knowing that it's wrong and anticipate a correction later >> and we'll adjust once we make that we can add that. >> Yeah. Can we can we add something like that? >> Yeah, I agree. >> Whoever makes the motion if they want to make that addition, >> Mr. Reic. >> Yep. I would move that we approve the rates as submitted. uh pending uh a future anticipated modification. >> Okay. >> Do you need
a second for that? >> Yes. Second. >> Thank you, Mr. >> So, are they collecting on these incorrect rates right now? They issued full tax bills based upon way things were prior to >> yeah they collected and they >> I think I mentioned this at a board meeting or two earlier in the year that >> if anyone came in to pay personally or if they called in with questions they stressed to them to only pay half of their tax full year tax bill. >> Yeah. And the letter I got I >> they also made those postings. >> It was noted on the letter page and I think we got some sort of slip with the tax bill personally. So they tried to limit >> reconciliation. >> Yes. As much as they could, but there was
no guarantee. >> So they will be going back and correcting for the first half, right? They will have to. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> So, in reality, we're collect probably collecting more than what we should have with the first half settlement. >> So, it's going to get offset probably with second half. >> Yeah, makes sense. >> We just have to keep that >> Yeah. >> in mind as we move along here for a little bit till things are corrected and recalculated and balance out. >> Yeah. Especially because we look at this fiscal year that ends in the summer and this is going to >> go into next fiscal year too. So I know that right out of the >> gate approaches while we're following along. >> So we we know there's a correction coming. We
just don't know how severe that >> we do >> is going to be to us. >> Okay. >> Soon as I know, you will know. >> Thank you. >> So do we need to vote on both? Just one vote. >> Okay, please call the RO. >> Mr. Ric, >> yes. >> Mr. Fox, >> yes. >> Mrs. Davis, >> yes. >> Mr. Whitehead, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packard, >> yes. May I please have a motion for a resolution accepting gifts to the Troy City School District and expressing thanks of the board of education? >> Motion to approve. >> Thank you, Mr. Reic. >> Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Whitehead. >> Mr. Fiber. So, yes, on our agenda, you'll see a variety of donations to our district, to our programs and our students. Um, ranging from scholarship
donations to donations to the DC trip for music and athletic programs. Um, and we appreciate each and every one of these donations. It's a it's a privilege to get this every month from our community. The April total is $25,146, which brings our fiscal year-to-ate total to $143,66126. We appreciate every penny of it. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Price. >> Mr. Rick, >> yes. >> Mr. Whitehead, >> yes. >> Mr. Fox, >> yes. >> Mrs. Davis, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packer, >> yes. May I please have a motion for policies. These will be new revised policies as listed below, approved, and become effective April 13, 2026. >> Thank you, Mrs. Davis. Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Reic. Mr. Price, I mean, Mr. Piper. >> So, I walked through these last month, if you'll recall. Um, most
of them were pretty minor changes based on new laws that have passed and caused us to change the language. Happy to answer any questions you might have still. If not, I recommend your approval. If >> I remember correctly, there were not material changes to the policies. Correct. >> Nothing really that significant. Probably the most significant is the change for kindergarten dates. Um the state law did make a change. So now that date is August 1st. If you are 5 years old by August 1st, you are eligible for kindergarten. >> Okay. >> So rest is pretty minor. >> I just had a question on that artificial intelligence. I know um I think we had kind of talked the last time about how >> the teachers kind of take that under their like discretion right to you
know the extent at which that's to be used. um are we looking at trying to develop like a best practice or is there a best practice model out there that we're giving as guidance for things like that? >> I think it's a moving target. So yes and yes we have been we've had a artificial intelligence task force that we put together. We've done some professional development with that group. We have shared with them our our board policy. Our board policy has changed a few times. Um this is a rapidly changing and moving target. So this particular policy revision is a reflection of a new state model policy that we've emulated. Um but I would say it's going to continue to shift. You're correct in that we have tried to allow for it when it makes
sense and also restrict it when it doesn't and that's the thing that teachers are grappling with daily. Um so we'll continue to work with providing professional development trying to understand what best practice looks like which again is a moving target. So there's a lot of work to be done. Um this is just kind of a good starting point for us and something for teachers to refer to which is helpful with what are the rules. Um but generally speaking, yes, when a teacher assigns a project, um they're able to think about an artificial intelligence and how it could be applied and either encourage or discourage or both its use depending on what they're trying to achieve. >> But it's it it's something we'll continue to work on. >> Sure. >> For sure. probably for quite some
time. >> Right. Yeah. As we all will be, right? >> Even in our own life. >> Yeah. >> Thank you, Mr. Favor. >> Yeah. >> Mr. Price. >> Mrs. Davis? >> Yes. >> Mr. Reic? >> Yes. >> Mr. Fox? >> Yes. >> Mr. Whitehead? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Packard? >> Yes. May I please have a motion to approve reimbursement in lie of transportation by law provides that students who reside in this school district and attend chartered non-public schools outside of the school district are transported by those non public schools by school conveyance provided that the non-public school is within 30 minutes driving as a pickup point for the non-public school students. If it is impractical for us to transport a few students by school, the following parents have given their written consent for this arrangement.
Please have a motion. >> Motion to approve. >> Thank you, Mr. Fox. >> Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Reic. Mr. Price, >> Mr. Fox, >> yes. >> Mr. Reic, >> yes. >> Mr. Whitehead, >> yes. >> Mrs. Davis, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packard, >> yes. May please have a motion for personnel items attached in exhibit D for April. So thank you Mr. Davis. >> Second. >> Thank you Mr. Whitehead. Mr. Don. >> Good evening everyone. I apologize for such a short personnel agenda tonight. It's only eight pages. April's a busy month for us. It's hiring season. So very thankful. Um some learning folks here. reported to them. Few things I'd like to point out. Um, under resignations, retirements, discharge, um, a couple of highlights there. So, Julie Anderson, the very first one, teacher over at
Haywood, um, she has been teaching Detroit for 34 years. So, as I've heard of doing recently, I think that's really important that we have people that that have been with us a long time that we recognize them. So, we'll do that again in in May. But, um, it's just a great opportunity to express some appreciation. Um, and then if you skip down Tracy's prop, admin assistant over at Kyle, she has been with the district for 23 years. So that's a uh that's a combined 57 years for those two. So very thankful. We have some folks that are are moving on. Um, if you continue to to scroll down, um, we've got um a leave of absence there that you can see. Um, we have some renewals. So these would be one-year contracts um for our
newish teachers. It's the first three years, they get a one-year contract. Um after that, they move into a four-year contract cycle. So that's that second group that you see. And then as folks become eligible and request, um we consider what's called a continuing contract. Um and there are different um eligibility factors. So we've got a smaller group for continuing contract. Um if you turn to page two, we have uh renewal of uh certified subs andor athletic workers. Um there are a lot of them. We also have some supplemental renewals on the the following page. So those are folks that do additional things above and beyond for us. We're very thankful for that. Um we have some on the classified side as well in terms of subs and athletic workers. And then um if you uh
move on to the to the next page, we do have our non-renewals. And so this is a pretty typical practice where we nonrenew our supplementals that people have held throughout the year. And that's that large list that you see with names and the different supplementals that they've held. And we do that so that then we can turn around and hire the most appropriate person for that position. Many times it's the same person. Um sometimes there there will be a change there. Um continuing on down, we've got classified subs and athletic workers. Um, and then I'm not out of breath yet, but I'm getting there. Uh, we've got employments. And a couple of highlights there before I turn it over to, uh, Mrs. Dever to talk about her team. Bailey Quinter. Uh, so Bailey has been
an intervention specialist for us. Um, and if you remember, um, Sean Campbell was an administrator. Um, and she had an opportunity, uh, took that opportunity in another district with Dr. Turner. Deborah Turner being our new director of people services. made that decision to kind of press pause on that role. Um, let her get her feet under her and determine what the need was. And so, this special education supervisor is really just a replacement of the position that we haven't filled for the last year. So, very excited to have Bailey step into that role. She's been a fantastic intervention specialist. I think she's going to be an outstanding administrator. I'm excited to have her join the administrative team. Um, I will allow Mrs. Dret, ask Mrs. Dret to talk about some of her folks. She asked
him for uh the the high school was busy this spring. We got started early, so I'll let her talk about her team. >> Yeah, I just appreciate obviously Mr. Delone and all the work that he does to help assist us through this hiring process. Obviously, um we've got uh a a great um help here. So, thank you. And he even took me to one of the um job fairs down at UD, which um I met one of our new teachers at. So, it was a really fruitful experience in many ways. So, um, so I'm going to welcome we have a couple of teachers who, um, we are welcoming this year as first year teachers, but they are not new to our building. So, they are former grads. So, we're very excited to have a couple,
um, returning faces. So, I'll start with Ashley Clifford. So, Ashley's going to be teaching math for us. She graduated from uh, Troy here and went on to Bluffton University and is graduating here very shortly, right? us. It's exciting. She played some softball there, had a lot of leadership opportunities involved, and we're excited to have her come back. And then we also had Jenna Willoughby who was Jenna Stocklaker when she was here. And so Jenna is uh she went off to Miami University uh did some biochem and forensics um and then went back and got her uh education degree. So we are really excited to have her back as a new teacher teaching science for us this year. So both of them spoke pretty highly of the teachers here in the building that um inspired them.
So I think they're pretty excited to come back and teach with them now. So um so we're glad to have them. Christina McKenzie is here. So Christina is coming to us most recently from Arcanum as an English teacher. She also has some experience with high school drama. So we're excited to be replacing. We know that Miss Emodin retiring is a big shoes to fill there. So, we're really excited to have her as part of our Trojan family. And then Jordan Hurley is back there. Jordan is also going to teach math for us. Jordan uh attended is graduating from UD here again in a in a few short weeks. Jordan was also cheerleader for UD um which is exciting and she'll be doing some coaching for us too, it sounds like. So, we're really glad to
have her. Um, and then I'm just going to call a couple uh other names um who aren't here, but of course Ryan Jones, we know we've hired as football coach Ryan. >> Good to see you over there. So Ryan is teaching science for us as well um here. So we're very very thankful to have um have him as part of our team. Uh we are also uh welcoming Lauren Morris for um to replace Paul Delwitch in our guidance department. So Lauren Morris currently is the Cooken guidance counselor. Um this is her first year here in the district at Cooken. She actually came from um Upper Sunduski High School and she was a high school English teacher and did some guidance uh stuff there. So she's transferring over here to the high school next year as
our new guidance counselor. Really excited to have her. And then um the last one we just hired and she's already started. She started last Thursday. It's Elizabeth Oswald. we're welcoming her back as our school nurse. So, she was here a couple years ago. Um, stepped away to do some things in her in her children's own district, but was excited to be able to come back to us. So, uh, the staff was welcoming and she already started Thursday, so she's she's up and running. So, anyhow, very excited. So, we're excited that they brought their families, too. So, >> welcome. Thank you for joining us. >> Yeah. Thank you, Mer. Thank you. Uh, congratulations to our all of our new folks. Um, there are a few other things here. Um, I always like to celebrate when we
hire new certified subs. Um, we also hired a couple of classified subs, so that's that's a win. Um, and most people say that I made them go to job fair. So, thank you saying that was an opportunity. But it was very fruitful and uh Jordan is is uh who we we met there. So, um, the last few years, I would say our job fairs have been extremely successful. We've we've been able to meet some high quality candidates and and hire them back here. Um, and I'm excited for the great things that this group is going to do. >> I'm happy to answer any questions. >> You've been incredibly busy. >> Yes. Mr. >> Mrs. Davis. >> Yes. >> Mr. Whitehead. >> Yes. Mr. Fox, >> yes. >> Mr. Reic, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packard, >>
yes. >> At this time, we do have a second hearing of the public. If this is for anything that isn't on the agenda, I do have one person that wanted to speak. So if you can please introduce yourself, state your name and your address and then >> pardon >> my address. >> Yes, your name and your address. And then just for your information, it is a threem minute limit. >> Okay. So my name is Julia. I live at 1010 Maple Press Drive, Troy, Ohio 45373. I have lived there for five years. I have sat there and listened to the community through IEPs, through going out in the community, through therapy for special needs children. I hear the community of my God, the church that is crying and scared and fear in a world of Davids
that are supposed to stand before Goliath. AI my terminology because I see the world very differently because I'm Julia first, a daughter of God second, and I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a daughter in love, and my diagnosis ADHD didn't define me for 36 years, but I see it defining all of the children of God, adults, teens, children, And when I notice because God made me small but mighty personally my child being left out, it hurts. When you are of the age where you had bullies in school and now there are young people in a lost generation, 18 to 25, that is the legal age of an adult, but not a mental age. We were all either lost in the church, the lost generation of church, or we were lost and didn't know
what we'd do because we were labeled as an adult, but they didn't feel like adult. Find out now 25 is when your brain develops. There are children suffering because they're labeled as stupid, but they are not stupid. They see the world beautifully, creatively, and innocent. And when I see children like last meeting leadership roles, music's playing. They want to dance. You can feel it. When you have ADHD, you can listen with all your senses. You're sensory seeking. I'm high level of a child for a reason. For God alone. I've always been involved in children's church. They love connecting. And when I see children that are so scared to sing out loud, that makes me mad. When I see children all over, inner childs, adults are inner child who listen to our music as therapy. That
makes me mad when I go to events that are socialable for adults, but everybody's just dancing in their seat. That's not okay. When I see people dancing in their seat and children not dancing, but the one kid that is always the one that's the true leader, they lead with their heart. That's what leaders do. They do not lead with their mind or with profit. They lead with heart. >> I'm sorry, ma'am. I have to You write your three minutes. >> This is This is at the three minutes. I timed it. So, it's on my phone. Okay. >> So, the timer will go off. But let me say this. I'm not leading at a profit. I'm leading out a nonprofit. Julia's Censory Jams will be for everyone young to old. Senior Center, community that doesn't know
a community is there because no one's connecting here. I'm connecting both online and offline and that's for everyone. >> Thank you. >> Wonderful. Thank you. Thank you. >> May please have a motion for adjournment into executive session. Um the purpose of executive session is considering the appointment employment dismissal discipline motion demotion or compensation of an employee or official. We will not make any decisions in executive session. May have a motion. >> So moved. >> Thank you Mr. Ric. Second. Thank you, Mrs. Davis. Mr. Price, >> Mr. Rick, >> yes. >> Mrs. Davis, >> yes. >> Mr. Fox, >> yes. >> Mr. Whitehead, >> yes. >> Mrs. Packer, >> yes. Thank you. >> Thank you. We will now move into executive session.
