of education meeting May 11th, 2026 in the community boardroom to order. Please call the role. >> Mr. Fischer, >> present. Mrs. Green, >> present. >> Mr. Overton, >> Mr. Gotti, >> present. >> Mr. Ber, >> present. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance followed by the invocation with Mr. Overton. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Heavenly Father, we just thank you again just for a beautiful day today. Lord, we just ask that you would continue to protect our students and staff as this year is drawing to a close and just be with those seniors, Lord, that may not have decided exactly what they're going to do yet. just help
them to make the right decisions and uh just give us uh guidance tonight as we do the business in Jesus name. Amen. >> Amen. >> Dr. Veransky, is there any additions or corrections to the agenda? >> Uh there is going to be one addition to the agenda tonight. Um, so under new business consent agenda item A, it's going to be number 24 and that's going to say approve a title 3 EL consortium contract with the Stark County Educational Service Center. So approve a Title 3 EL consortium contract with the Stark County Educational Service Center. And basically what that is um we have to for our students that are um English learners, we have to be belong to a consortium because we don't have enough here locally. So we have to join with like a bigger
group. We do that every year. There's no money involved here. It's just saying that they're going to help us if we have students with that are English learners and we need resources. >> Okay. Thank you. On our agenda, we um express item number two, uh declarations of our mission and board of education goals that you can find. Item number three is our public participation for agenda items, which I do not believe we have anybody for agenda items. >> Nope. >> And then we come down to item number four, superintendence report. >> All right. Thank you, Mrs. Barrier. Uh two two exciting things under uh my report tonight. Um and so I'm going to need the board to help me with this one. But the first one, um, it is always a privilege when we get
the chance to, uh, pass out a Trojan pride award. And tonight is to somebody very special to us, and that is Miss Barb Limbacher. Uh, Barb has been a media consultant, um, with was the Times reporter, uh, most recently the Bargain Hunter. Um, covering Tusky Valley longer than I've been alive. Um, and so I met Barb when I was first dean of the middle school and I was in charge of a back to school blast and she came and that's really where I got to talk to her. And then uh when I became superintendent, uh she became one of the quick people in my in my phone to call uh when there's something exciting going on in the district. Um always look forward to talking to her after a board meeting on a Tuesday morning
to kind of recap what we talked about. Um and so she's just a good friend to our district. Um Barb was with the Times reporter and then they cut some they made some budget cuts and we were thrilled when we were able to make the Bargain Hunter our official newspaper because they picked up Barb. Uh and because of budget cuts again, uh Barb was informed about two months ago that she wouldn't be allowed to cover our uh our board meetings anymore. Um nor would anybody be coming to cover our board meetings anymore. Um and so the board just thought it was very appropriate um that we recognize you for everything that you have done for us. Um we there's a there's so many great things happening in our district right now, but there was some
dark days early on and Barb got to be part of that and report that and make sure that the community was aware of what was happening in our district. So, um, before I present this and we make you stand up, Barb, anything else from the board? Anything you guys would like to share? >> Barb did receive the state award from the Ohio School Board Association, um, for her, um, knowledge and her positive writing of public education that I think that needs to be addressed. And Barb, I think as you enter that period where you might find some free time, you need to write a story, our history. You'd be the best person to do it, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And you do a great job. I appreciate everything you've done over the
years in my 22 24 years. You are remarkable. You've always been fair, honest, but always a proponent of Tusky Valley. So, thank you so much. >> I think Sally said it all for us. >> Barb, it is our honor to provide you with the Trojan pride award May 11, 2026 for outstanding service and dedication to the TV. Sally made our app. >> Thank you, Barb. >> Thank you. >> Barb, anything you wanted to share? >> Well, I have an audience. >> I've covered this district for 45 years other than just a very short time. So I started out with some Mr. Reid was on the board, Mr. Locker and that was a very very conservative board and then it changed. But this board is excellent. You're all good. You students have such a good board
here to to help you through the years and everything and uh I just appreciate it. Thank you. >> Absolutely. Congratulations, Barb. Um, the second item under my report tonight is, and I'm going to turn it over to Reno Kipelli from the Northeast Region of the Ohio School Boards Association. >> Hi, I'm Reno Kipell from the Ohio School Boards Association. Um, each year at our spring conference, we honor board members who go on and do some incredible things. I'll first start with Mr. Overton. He he has he won the uh Star Award for training. Now, this is not an easy ward to get. That means that he has to go out and do some continu education, bring that knowledge back to Tusky Valley. He was he was one of uh 20 board members in my region
to win that. So, give him a round of applause. Congratulations. Then, board member Green, Sally Green, over here. Uh she won both the service and the training award, which is even harder. I think we only had five board members or eight board members statewide to do that. So that's the training on part of going out and doing more service, being on committees, going down to Columbus and all that. So give uh board member Green a round of applause. And the most incredible is when you put the star award together with service, training, aptitude, they got actually have to take a test and the recognition part we call that the master board member. This the so how hard to be a board member. master board member. There are over 3,400 board members, close to 3,500 board
members in the state of Ohio. We only had 18 this year win the master board member and seven in the region. It's not easy to do. And Madame President, congratulations because you were one of seven in the region to get the master board member. I'm be I'm very careful with this because I don't want to break it. We pres we honored um um board member Burer at our spring conference and u give her a round of applause because this is not easy. >> Congratulations Thanks for being here. >> Thank you, Reo. >> Congratulations, Mrs. Burgerer. That is the end of my report tonight. >> All right. Item number five. We have student our student representative report today. We welcome the Big Red Pep Club with Mrs. Lean. >> Yes. >> Participation. >> I promise them
they wouldn't have to speak, >> but you're going to stand this way so that they can see you. >> It doesn't matter. That's just my to look at so they don't have to stare at me. I can stare at you. Good evening, fellow Trojans, administrators, staff, and community members. I stand here this evening to talk to you about a phenomenal group of students who are fundamentally changing the atmosphere of our school. And I'm talking about the Big Red PEP club. PEP is more than just an acronym. It's a movement and it's a commitment to making our school the best that it can be. Our story began in the fall of 2022. It started with a simple yet powerful conversation between me and a student, Karen Hamilton. We shared a common vision to create a club
centered on positivity and encouragement. Karen took incredible initiative, meeting with administration multiple times to champion our cause. With the green light secure and myself serving as a volunteer adviser, we held our very first meeting. That first meeting was small but powerful. Eight students showed up. Eight students who were ready to dream, build and create. Together we answered the big questions of who we are, what do we do, where will we make an impact, why does this matter, how will we start, and finally what what will we do? That's what you guys see here. And in fact, if somebody if you'll just turn yours around so they can see the back of it. These are the exact things I put out at our very first meeting and every student had a pack of um sticky notes
and they had to answer those questions and that's how we figured out the answers and I kept them. Um that day we decided that PEP would stand for people encouraging people. We created our name, our logo and our mission. That first year, we averaged nine students per meeting with a total of 32 in membership. We were a mighty force despite our size. But the Trojan spirit is contagious. In our second and third years, our membership grew to over 50 members. And this year, we're literally bursting at the seams. Our membership is steady at 53, but the energy is incredible, and we are now averaging nearly 30 students attending each meeting. That growth is a testament to the fact that our students are hungry for positivity and community. Once we formed our club, the first thing
we did was simple. We wanted this school to know that we existed. Our inaugural event was called pumpkin trick-or- treat. We also started putting up simple but meaningful locker decorations, not just for the athletes, but for students involved in academics, fine arts, and clubs. We wanted to recognize all Trojan AC excellence. Then Silas Miller brought us a legendary idea that has become a true staple for us, the Trojan Torch Tournament. These pep rally style events pit grade levels against each other in thrilling Minute to Win It style games. The stakes are high and the winners claim the coveted Trojan Torch Trophy. This event brings fun, laughter, teamwork, and a whole lot of Trojan pride. And if you are free on Friday at approximately 2 o'clock, our final Trojan Torch tournament of the year will be
in the gym. To sustain this work and to fund the great prizes, we have become fundraising powerhouses. From hat days to bake sales to Boo Your Boo, Send a Snowflake, Egg Your Friend, and Who's Your Santa? We have done it all. Our most recent popular uh additions are Tap the Teacher and Burn the Birds. Our deepest goal is to create an atmosphere where students and staff enjoy coming to school every single day and are proud to be Trojans. This commitment manifests itself in fun creative events. We have sponsored Halloween costume contests, clover hunts, and hallway decorating contests which have evolved into lockers of jolly. This year we were honored to provide dinner for our staff during parent teacher conferences. But the real heart of our pep club is the commitment to service and kindness. During
staff appreciation week, we delight in giving little gifts to staff members every day. We want them to know that they matter. In the second year of our pep club, we started the pep club note program. At every single meeting, every single member writes a handwritten note of encouragement to someone in our school. It could be a student or a staff member. And then I deliver them throughout the week. And those notes have become powerful reminders that someone cares, someone sees you, and someone believes in you. We've also supported the district through events like BU at the school. We've decorated doors for the elementary literacy night, served refreshments at various functions, and even intended a leadership seminar. This year, we were asked to serve as greeters for the grand opening of the school-based health clinic. And
if you've been to our meeting area, you know we love to decorate for every season. From fall to Christmas to St. Patrick's Day, we keep our space vibrant and welcoming. The Big The Big Red Pep Club isn't just a club. It's the heartbeat of our school spirit. It's people encouraging people every day, and it's a mission that belongs to all of us. The Big Red Pep Club began with a conversation, grew with courage, and thrives today because of the dedication of students who choose kindness, creativity, and encouragement every single day. We are more than a club. We are a movement. We are people encouraging people. And we are proud, very proud to be Trojans. Thank you. Um, we do have one of these. You guys can lay those on one of the chairs. We do
have one of these. they wanted to give all of you. It's just something that if we have a student that's interested in joining PEP club, I tell them to read this, come see me if you have any questions. It gives all like what their requirements are, what they're responsible for, everything. And then also, they're going to hand you something else. When you heard me talk about the pep club notes um at our meeting last week, we wrote notes to the board. So, they have notes for you, and I have no idea what they say, but hopefully they're they're wonderful. Before you move, I want each of you to say your name, what grade you are, and what you like about this club. What what activity you is your favorite? >> What's your favorite thing that
we've done? >> Uh, I'm Elena Jones. I am a sophomore, and my favorite thing is probably the costumes contest for Halloween. >> My name is Elena and I'm in 10th grade. My favorite thing is probably I'm a freshman. Uh my favorite Corbin and I'm I'm in 11th grade and my favorite thing is probably my name is Jonah Cox. I'm a senior and my favorite thing would have to be the rocket science. >> I'm Chelsea Brown and my favorite sorry I'm in ninth grade and my favorite >> Well, we thank each of you for the kindness that you give to our students. It's very important and to our staff. Do you also are you also in charge of picking this teacher of the month or teacher? >> We are in charge of staff of the month.
We do that. >> It's called staff of the month. Okay. Um, one of my students told me last year that if we wanted to increase the spirit in the school, we were targeting the wrong audience and we needed to focus on the staff. And I said, "Okay, how do you think we do that?" And so, we came up with staff of the month. So, >> I know that's been well. >> The majority of our students are not here tonight because I would say 75 to 80% of pep club is also banned. So, they're over there warming up because their concert starts in about 10 minutes. >> So, these guys are going to hand those to you and then Noah, if you'll go ahead and play that. We have just a real short video. It's like
a minute, minute and a half. There's no words to it. And I don't know if the music is gonna play. It is not, but it's just that's our pumpkin trick or treat. That's what our locker signs look like. There's quite a few videos up here or photos up here of our Trojan torch tournament of kids just having fun competing. And we do have a staff team. So the staff are always competing against the students because, you know, we feel like we should feed them. Just some fun pictures of kids. Some of this is old past from when we started. Some of it's current from this year. Something we knew that we did this year is they now they have a point system that they earn points and if you hit a certain level you earn
your pin just like earning a letter for your Letterman jacket and then every year you can varsity and get a pin. If they hit a certain level in their points that they earn in their point system they earn a pin. >> Nice. So, if my band was here tonight, I was going to do my pinning tonight, so you guys could see that. But, you know, some locker decorating, lockers of Jolly, staff lockers or staff doors, and student lockers. >> There's some Halloween. That was the best group. We won. >> That's with the school, not some of our things we did for elementary school. Really soon. Friday. It's not on the list. High pride Friday. We do that at the elementary school once every other month about. The kids love that. And that's it. >> Thank
you so much. You're welcome. >> Thank you, Becky, for being their leader. >> Oh, thank you. >> Thank you. >> Have a great night, guys. >> Thank you. >> I want to read my name. >> No, I don't even know. >> Mrs. Lean, I would just like to say thank you. Um, I remember we were at one of the original superintendent advisory councils and it was a topic between Mrs. Mi, Mrs. Leseawn, really in their small group, they started talking about school spirit and we started reminiscing like do you remember when we were in school because they are both graduates of here. Um, and that really kickstarted some things and at the exact same time Karen was having those conversations and I remember Karen chased me down in the stadium one night um to ask
for for the green light and I was happy to do that. But it's been really cool to just see how it has has grown. Um, and they help with all kinds of projects. If if there's something that I need done in the school or I I will call Mrs. Leseawn and she's quick to make it happen. So, we appreciate it and she volunteers, puts a lot of time into it, and we don't take that for granted. So, thanks for all you do for our >> Okay, item number four. We're or six, excuse me. We're leadership team reports. Mrs. Clemens, first we just have two quick additions to um the leadership team reports that I sent. Um and it's because the results are in of two major events that our middle school and high school have
taken part of in. First, our county math tournament. We had 24 students um between fifth and eighth grade that took a place within our math tournament. So, congratulations to those 24 students for being some of the top students in our county. Second are the results of our project lead the way showcase. if you had a chance to get to the showcase. It's an overwhelming evening of wonderful projects. Um we had at least 12 first place and over 24 awards for just Tusky Valley students. Um, I know that, um, Steve Stoki was a little overwhelmed with calling Tusky Valley um, for all of the different awards and it just goes to show how much work our students put in and our teachers put into that program and we're very proud of that program and we want
to see it continue and that's all because of your dedication on putting funds towards the program and making sure that that continues to happen. So, I wanted to say thank you to that. >> Okay. Believe Mr. Fogle's here for Mr. Phillips. Good evening everybody. Okay, before I get to our students, uh things are things are coming very fast for the middle high school. We are closing down a pretty decent year for 2526 and we are planning uh putting the finishing touches on our plans for 2627 tonight. Obviously, we have the band concert tonight. Um, it is concert and uh awards assembly season. So, tonight we have our high school band concerts. On Wednesday, we have the elementary and middle school band concert. On Friday, we have the pops concert with our choir. So, please show
up. The kids would love to see you. Our scholar banquet is tomorrow. Um, we are coming close to our exams and then we will finish up for the year. Graduation will be then on the 22nd. All right. But you really don't want to see any of that. We're here to talk about kids. So, I have three very, very, very great examples of Tusky Valley Trojans to bring up this evening. We're going to start off with our fine artist of the month, Mr. Jonah Cox. So, please come on up, Jonah. stand here and I'm going to say some things about you here. Jonah is a senior and the son of Julie Cox. His school activities include speech, drama, pep club as you saw, and hope squad. Jonah's hobbies include casual running, hanging out with family, spending
time with friends, and reading. After graduation, Jonah plans to attend the College of Worcester for psychology and work toward the pre-law track. So congratulations Jonah Cox. So Mrs. Green is going to take a nice photo of you and I'm going to try. No, that's not >> All right. Good job. >> Congratulations. >> Our athlete of the month for track is Abram. All right. Abe is a senior and the son of Carter and Mandy Mackey. His school activities include Project Lead the Way, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, and National Honor Society. Abe participated in the Project Lead the Way showcase. He also participated in the bridge building competition. Remind me again, you were the second at that >> at the regional competition. And Abe, when did you find out this piece of information? >> Uh,
this Saturday. >> This Saturday. >> In the the international competition, Abe was 12th in the world >> with his bridge. And you said that this bridge held 48 pounds. >> Nice. Good job, BUDDY. >> AGAIN, not 12th in Ohio, 12th in the world. Uh, in his free time, Abe enjoys running, building bridges, spending time with friends, family, and gaming. Uh, after graduation, Abe plans to attend Bucknell University and continue his track career while majoring in mechanical engineering. Abe is an all Ohio athlete multiple times over. At county, he and the 4x2 team took third and the 4x4 team took second and A will be in action this Thursday at the IVC tournament. So congratulations to all >> Abe. We know you did not get your height from your mother. >> Good job. >> Job, babe.
>> All right. And finally, our student of the month for hard work and determination is Miss Emma Lunar. Emma is a senior and the daughter of Lisa and Andrew Holtry. Her school activities include cheerleading. Emma's hobbies include hanging out with her friends and family, playing with her cat, Zena, and shopping. After graduation, Emma will plans to attend Kent State University and major in psychology. Congratulations, EMMA. Thank you. And Mrs. Mackwood for Mr. Street. >> Definitely not Mr. Street. >> I'm sure you can do it. >> Give it a go. >> Yes. >> Um, so, uh, crazy times at the elementary school. Uh we had literacy night last week which was a great success. Um I think probably around 300 families came through. Um if you had a chance to come in the building, the decorating
was unbelievable. The teachers did an amazing job. Um I feel like it's like field tripooa over there right now. So the kids are are a little little a little unsettled right now. Say it nicely. Um, but some fun things, we've had trips to the McKinley monument. They're going to Beach Creek to see the butterflies kindergarten next week. So, lots of fun things. Um, we also have our celebrate success coming up and that is our PBIS kind of reward for full school. Um, and we do that for every student. We bring in a ton of inflatables. We do some PBIS uh Jeopardy. Um, and that's a lot of fun. um awards banquetss coming up just like the middle school high school. Um we are also super excited. We have uh quite a few new employees joining
us and I think later we're going to approve um Miss Kinsey Schilling um but she's sitting right here. Um so super excited to um have our retirees give them a nice send off and um welcome some of our new employees. So that's pretty exciting. I think that's it for me. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Pen. Well, we have some exciting things going on for our transportation buildings and grounds. Um, we want to go outside and see the first part of it. >> Yeah. >> You didn't know you were going to get to do the first board meeting on a field trip, did you? >> Well, yeah. We'll we'll pause here just a moment. Um, Noah, for anybody watching online, we're going to take a small break. We're going to take a small field trip outside
and to look at the golf room. But before we do that, uh, two things that Mr. Pendle is going to show us. first is all of the upgrades um that the board approved for our school buses and we tonight we have I think bus one is sitting out there which has all of those upgrades. So we just want you to be able to see um where that money has gone. Um out of that expense about 25,000 of it came through the governor's school bus safety grant. Um so we were thrilled to receive that money and be able to make these upgrades happen. Um the second item that we're going to be looking at is the golf room is finally done. Um, and again, I just want our public to know that was all that was
grant funded. Uh, the construction of that space and then the athletic boosters and the golf team paid for everything else. So, it did not cost the district locally any money here. U, but we're excited for that. It is only open for the golf team. So, we keep getting questions. Is it open to the public? It is not. Um, but it is available for our our students that are in the golf program and it's nice that they finally have a home base uh to have everything in. So, we're going to take a quick tour to look at that. I know there is a band concert, so some of you that have to uh scoot out, don't worry about it. We we completely understand and then we'll come back in here and move into the rest of
the agenda. >> Okay, Mr. I will follow you. Very nice. >> Oh, he got it up. >> He should be coming down. >> Who are you looking for? Ben. >> Ben. They're scheduling a golf date >> because you got to do you got to do a motion. So, I would wait for I >> think he forgot that the meeting was still working on your SL. >> Okay. Item number seven, new business consent agenda. Uh, is there a motion to approve items A1 through 24? >> I make that motion. >> Second. >> At this time, we're going Everybody should have had the agenda. Um, I'm going to have uh it's up here on the screen and Dr. Verance is just going to go through some points, but uh it's online. It's here. So, we're going to
have >> Sure. >> Dr. Veransky. >> Yeah. So, a change of the agenda. We're just going to read we're supposed to read through just so that we know what everybody the board is going to vote on. Um anybody listening online, if you go to the TV Trojans's website, um under the district, there's board of education, you can always find our agendas and you can find our minutes. We typically the agenda is always up the Wednesday before the meeting. Uh and the minutes are typically put up the very next day. So you can always find that on there. Um and thanks Mr. Allen for getting these on the screen for us. Uh so number uh one is approving the minutes from the last regular board meeting as well as the April 20th board meeting which is
where the board had to get together to approve to go out to bid for the wellness center because of that timeline. Uh number two is the donations that we've received over the past month. So, we always appreciate um these these individuals and businesses that that send money our way so we can do the things that we do. Uh number three is approving the attendance and participation for Mrs. Green to attend the federal legislative advocacy group conference uh this September. Number four, uh this one makes me sad, but it's to accept the resignation of Mrs. uh Lorie Walton uh who is a kindergarten teacher here for the purpose of retirement effective May 29th. Uh, number five, I'm going to ask you to approve um the uh contract for Abby, who will be coming on board as
a new pair professional at the middle high school. Number six is to approve the list of graduates for the class of 2026, and that list is at the end of the agenda. Um, number seven is to grant 10 extended days for next school year for each of our four counselors. That allows them to come in five days before school starts and five days after the school year ends. Uh, just to make sure that we we have everything that we need done. Number eight is to approve the school fees for 2627 and those fees are staying the exact same as they have been for the last couple of years. Uh number nine is to improve the employment of some summary temporary summer temporary employees uh in food services and that is so that we can feed
the kids while they're here for the summer um after school program. Number 10 is to approve anou with the University of Cincinnati. Uh that is so students can take CCP classes. Uh number 11 is the same thing only that's for Walsh University. Uh number 12 and number 13 is to approve um the hiring of our intervention specialist to provide some extended school year services um which are required by student um IEPs. Number 14 is to approve another summer temp summer temporary employee uh for the summer in the custodial field. Uh number 15 is supplemental contracts for next school year. Number 16 is the second reading and adoption of new board policies and Mr. Fischer explained all of those at the April board meeting. Uh number 17 is to approve the renewal of the contract with
frontline education uh which is our absence management system. Number 18 is to appoint a Cleveland Clinic uni union hospital workwell uh for us to do our T8 physicals and random drug testing. Uh number 19 is to approve the purchase of amplified Desmos math curriculum for grades K through eight. Uh and Mrs. Clemens gave a demonstration or presentation on that at last month's meeting as well. Uh number 20 we're excited about this. This is to improve employment of the following summer tech interns. Um, and this is through the governor's office of workforce transformation high school tech internship grant. Um, and so basically we are hiring high school students that are in the computer science program um, to work this summer. Um, it only cost us $2 an hour and the grant pays for the rest of
that. Number 21 is to improve the employment of the following teachers. So, we're excited to have Kinsey coming on as to serve third grade and Delaney who will be teaching second grade. Uh number 22, uh approving a five-year generator maintenance agreement and the cost is listed there. 23 U, this is always exciting, is to honor all of our seniors, um in the Kumladi system, and we will be recognizing them tomorrow night at the scholar banquet. Uh the middle high school students of the month are on there for 7th through 12 or yeah, 7th through 12th there. Uh and then item number 24 as I mentioned earlier is to approve that title three consortium contract uh just so we can partner if we have students with uh that is that is an English learner uh so
we can get those services provided for them. >> Okay. >> Questions on any of those items? >> The the students that are interning do they I know they're getting a certificate or something like that for their work but do they have to complete so many hours or what is the require? >> Yes, it there is an hourly rate or an hours that they have to be in. they can't exceed so many hours and they have to hit so many hours. So they can actually start in June. Um and that actually goes all the way through September. So they have quite a bit of time to hit all of the hours that they need. >> So they could do like Monday, Wednesday, Friday or is this like an everyday job? >> No, it's not an every
day. So they'll they'll be scattered a little bit. >> Okay. >> Say something. >> Sure. >> Am I allowed or not? >> Well, technically not, but we >> That's okay. It's fine. I'll tell you later. >> Uh Andrea may have said this when she was talking about that. five years on the 255 for the math curriculum >> at the end of that five is that another how does that >> proceed by hand? >> Yeah. Yes. So if we want to keep online access or online assessments, things like that, then we would pay for that. Um that's very similar to what we've done with any of our other curriculums. Um our best deal is to purchase for 5 years in advance. Um and that's basically the best deal we can get up front. So it gives
us all of our workbooks, um teacher materials. Um so we'll have everything that is hard copies. um we might have and at that point we reevaluate do we really need the workbooks for every student? Are we not using them? Um but the online access is where we would have to come back and and to to renew those >> and we were going to write in the contract that if it was not approved by the state. >> Yeah. Did that work? >> Is not something that can be written into the contract. Okay. Um but >> I know we did. >> I mean >> right now the state has not released a list of math providers. Um it looks like they are not going to do that. As long as they are green and ed reports and
they are highly ranked um on the state rubric, we should be good with that. But we have had conversations about what would happen if but they are extremely confident. >> Right. I don't have confidence that the legislators will do that's the right thing. So >> that's why I went and check on it. Okay. Thank you. That's all I have. All right. Call roll, please. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mr. Overbertton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Mrs. Burger, >> yes. Item number 11. Do I have a motion to approve a resolution to employ Cordog? >> Cordigan. I want to make sure I said it right. Cordigan Clark Leco for the Tuscross Valley Legacy Wall project at a cost of 2500 >> $25,000. Do I have a motion? >> I'll
motion it. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion on that? >> So, this is at the elementary. This is taking the old entrances of the primary building and the intermediate building and building the wall in that area. So, we have the patio already done. The PTO helped fund that a few years ago. Um, and so this will build the wall. So, Cordan Clark is one who we've been working with. We are really waiting on the construction um and the buildings to be settled with the state. Um, and so now we're ready to move forward with that project. So, we have the drawings already, but we just have to employ them. They will take over. They will be the they will be in charge of that project. They will bid everything out and handle it
on our behalf. >> Okay. Call a roll, please. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Brier. >> Yes. Item number uh nine is approve a resolution to employee Cigan Clark for the Tuscross Valley Wellness Center room. Project cost at 300 uh $37,500. Do I have a motion? >> Sorry. Second. >> Um any discussion on that? >> Uh similar thing. This is now for the wellness center. Um and this is because we received that $375,000 from the state to move forward with that project. >> So this is the just what we will provide only. >> This this is the fees for them to manage the project on our behalf. Yes. >> Okay. Caller roll, please. >> Mr. Fischer. >> Yes. >> Mr.
Overton? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Green. Yes. >> Mrs. Tleti. Yes. >> Mrs. Burer. >> Yes. Item number 10. Approve a lease agreement with Intera Counseling and Wellness for rental of room 128 in the administrative building effective June 1st through August 31st, 2026. Do I have a motion? >> I make the motion. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Discussion. Thank you for renting another room. >> Yes. And this is again uh this is for the counselor that typically is here during the day with kids during the school year. So, he just works out of a conference room or an itinerate office, but he needs a place for the summer so that those kids continue to get services. So, he's running a room here. >> Okay. Item number 11. >> Oh, roll. Sorry. >> Mrs. Green. >>
Yes. >> Mrs. Totty. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fischer. >> Yes. >> Mr. Overton. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burger. >> Yes. Item number 11. Do I have a motion to approve the following resolution? Resolution. Um, whereas Tuscross Valley Board of Education wishes to advertise and receive bids for the purchase of one or more school buses. Do I have a motion? Motion. >> Second. Second. any discussion on this? We >> we just need the board to take action yearly on this. So, it was about one year ago that you did. Um and so this just allows us to uh participate in the Omarisa um who who goes out and gets the advertisements, the bids on our behalf. And so when we do need to purchase a bus, it's ready to go for us. >> Okay. Call roll,
please. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Green, >> yep. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Mrs. Burer. >> Yes. Item number uh 12. I'm going to turn over to Mrs. Green. >> Uh item number 12 is approve a bus bid submitted by Hill International Trucks LLC for the purchase of two buses at the lowest responsive and responsible bid at the approximate cost of $135,83 each, not including the additional cost of the camera system and other related documents required to complete the purchase. Can I have a motion, please? Second. >> I'll second. >> There's been a first and a second. Is there any discussion? >> I just The We have the additional costs for the camera system. Are we removing the camera systems from retired buses and reusing them on new buses
or are we purchasing new camera systems for each? >> Correct. We are removing our current current ones we have in stock and we will have to have them out on the new ones. Yes. >> And that's all done in house? >> Yes. Well, we will have a there's a there's a company that'll come and install those for us. >> Yes, the cameras have to have somebody that has a specialty in that area. So, they'll come and relocate those. >> As far as the rest of the safety equipment that we just showed you out there, our our gentleman will do it in house. >> And how long is that good stuff good for? Are we saying like maybe 10 years or like three years? >> With technology, I mean, it's constantly changing. You know, it's they're
pretty robust systems. So, I hope we, you know, are getting You know, you're talking about a bus or or the the technology part. >> The the technology, the new stuff. >> How long does your television last? >> Three years. >> Well, do we have an estimated cost on the labor for the camera removal and replacement? >> Do not I do not. >> Yeah. And that's REI, the state that does that. >> REI stands for radiog. Any further discussion? Can we call the role then please? >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mrs. Green, >> sorry. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Totti, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burger, >> abstain. Item number 12, approve a bus bid. Oops, I'm sorry, I didn't mark it off because I abstained. Um, item number 13, approve a
resolution authorizing the Tuscross Valley Local School District to enter into contract with Vasco Sports Contractors for the Stadium Track Resurfacing through the um, OMIA partners cooperative purchasing program pursuit to Ohio Revised Code section 9.48. Do I have a motion? >> Second. >> I'll second it. and discussion. >> Can you talk about that, Derek? >> Uh, so this probably needs I didn't spell or say it right. >> So, this is the replacement of the track. So, the original track was put I don't even know when it was put in a long time ago. Um, and over the years we've had it sealed. Um, we've had it painted or a top coat put on, but it's in pretty rough shape. Um, and so what we are doing here, what what you were voting to do is actually
have the existing track removed. Um, so they'll dig that all out. put a fresh uh put a fresh foundation in base in and then and then the track would be brand new. Um so for that to happen they will have to dig out the old track in June. It does have to sit about a month um without touching it so that it settles um and then they would come back in and finish it. Um and so we're working on a pretty tight deadline of getting that done before fall sports and we have our first uh soccer and football games out there. Um, anything, Mark? Anything you want to >> No, I mean, it includes reser and everything. >> And it's got the same number of lanes. >> It's gonna be six. Yeah, we originally talked
about moving to eight a few years ago before we did any other work out there. In order to do that, we had to move the whole grandstands. If we move the or the home stands. If we did that, we would no longer be grandfathered in with the press box. So, we'd have to have an elevator to get to the press box. Um, so we chose not to do to do that for what we host here. Um, they would have loved to have an eight lane track. It just can't. it's not feasible. Um, so six, it would be six lanes still. Okay. If you've been not been out there recently, it's it's pretty rough. It is falling apart in places. So, um, okay. >> The kids will be very excited. >> So, where does this is
this money coming from? >> Like we have maintenance fund for things like this or what's >> right. So, like the monthly reports that come out, if you look at the fund 070, we have money set aside for track res. >> Is that PI? >> Wait, it's technically it's capital projects. >> Capital projects. Okay. And again, the quality of the track, there's sort of like three grades right now. We have middle of the line grade two, and that's what we're replacing with the same same surface we have right now. >> Okay. Call roll, please. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mrs. Delott, >> yes. >> Mrs. Burgerer, >> yes. Item number four. Uh 14, approve a contract with Complete Coding Solutions LLC to paint the Community
Center Gymnasium and bleachers at a cost of $35,282.50 50 cents with a 10% down payment. >> Um, I'll make the motion. >> Okay. Second, >> I'll second. >> Um, discussion. >> Yeah. So, this is for the the community center gym here. It would be completely repainted. And again, it's probably close to 15 20 years since it's been painted in there. Uh, so it'll be painting all the bleachers, which they're pretty scraped up and pretty rough. Um, all of the walls and ceiling. Um, we did get several bids. Um, this one was significantly cheaper. Uh this company is also who did other local districts in our area. So we feel feel pretty confident about about the level of their work. >> And are they doing the pickle ball or would that be somebody else that would
have >> the pickle ball is part of an annual thing we do every three years we resurface. So we rotate through the gyms. Um so that one that's under the threshold so it does not need board approval. >> So it's not the floor of the gym, it's the bleachers and the walls. >> That's already scheduled for um around July 4th when we do the athletic holiday shutdown. So that's one of the reasons we always try to get the gym floors done during that time. So we wanted to move now on getting it painted. We didn't want to do the floor and then paint it later and worry about it getting damaged. >> Okay. >> Um >> Okay. Item number 15. Oh, roll call. There's many. >> Mrs. Green. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fischer. >> Yes.
>> Mr. Overton. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Totty. >> Yes. >> Mr. Burer. >> Yes. Item number 15. Approve a contract with Basco Asphalt Company to pave the district offices and community center at an estimate cost of thou $216,517. Motion to >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> I'll second >> discussion. >> It's the same company, right? >> Well, with the track discount by doing both of them now at the same time. >> I I I don't think so. I think it's two separate divisions. Same company, two separate divisions. I mean the the prices that they're quoting for this again when you look at the track we were getting the cooperative purchasing price through the national co-op Omnia >> in the asphalt was just the quote that Mr. pennel, you know, obtained from them. He
got a multi-year plan to look at replacing and maintaining all of the asphalt here on site. >> Right. There's a lot. >> There's a lot. So, um it's broken into three sections. Admin building here is one, elementary is two, and the middle high school is three. Uh again, this one has not had the asphalt replaced. I don't know when that would have been done. We've sealed it a few times. Um but specifically around the bus garage, it's breaking. Um and so it's getting to the point you'll see water pooling um in the parking lot. Um, and so that's to to redo this area here >> and the bus area. You're saying the full >> be all around the bus garage, all of the parking lots around this building. And then the drive, the loop that
goes right around the back of the building. Uh, elementary was done two years ago when that opened. Uh, middle school was brand new and was resealed last summer. Um, it's it's expensive and like Mark said, there's a lot of asphalt. So, we've tried to create a plan where then Mark can budget that in his capital outlay, capital improvement. Um, and so we always have money kind of set aside to keep up with the parking lots >> because if we wait another year, it's going to cost there's places in bad shape. >> Yeah. You don't want to fall behind on maintaining I've had that happen. My 20 years as a treasurer, we've fallen behind when we've been in budget crunches and then when it comes time to do it, you you've got to go all the
way back down to base level and it costs twice as much. But that's what we're doing for this though as a base level or just as >> they're just what grinding half inch >> they're going to grind. Um it all depends you know we don't we don't know until we get underneath there. >> All right. >> Same with the track. We don't we don't know. >> But it's very fiscal. Thank you Mark for and Scott for coming up with this plan so we're always on top of it not having a big expense all at once. >> There'll be there will be asphalt project you know whether it's ceiling or repair or new every year. >> Yeah. So in the approximate cost of that, is that approximating with a half inch grade or is that like
if they come back and say, "Yeah, we got to tear the whole thing up." I mean, that's going to obviously increase that by a couple hundred thousand. >> They're very confident on grinding, you know, I don't know if it's a half inch or if it's an inch, you know, they're they call it mil, you know, mill >> that's going to be right around where we are. >> The worst the worst areas You'd have to hit like an unforeseen condition for the price to change. >> We have like a well we have no major soft areas. We have no we have you know >> 38,000 pound buses every day going you know they're just if you go down around the bus garage area in this area the thoroughfare I mean we get 1400 students out here
every day. Okay. If you have any more questions, please ask. >> Okay. Call roll, please. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mrs. Mr. Burger, >> yes. Item number 16, approve a resolution as authorizing the advertisement for bids of the Legacy Wall Project at Tusky Valley Elementary School. Do I have a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> Discussion. >> I just Oh, go ahead. No, this is just to so we've hired Leco for that according to clerk Leco, but this is to take it out to bid now. Um, just to see what we get back as far as cost. The board would then have to rem meet to improve that >> once the bid comes out. Okay. And I would like to say
that we as we were building the schools, we had different phases and we're working in part on every different phase. And um and so this is kind of where we're at in this phase and we definitely want to um honor the schools that were torn down basically. So I appreciate that we're moving forward with this. >> Roll call. >> Mrs. Green. >> Yeah. >> Mr. Fischer. Yes. >> Mr. Overton. Yes. >> Mrs. Yes. >> Mr. burger. >> Yes. Item number 17, public participation non-aggenda items. Thank you for being so patient, Miss Hall. >> I'll try not to be too long. Um, so I just wanted to talk to you tonight and thank you for the transparency you've had regarding um, school funding issues. Um, let me start over. I'm Alicia Hall. I am parent to
three kids at Tusky Valley and a member of um parents united for public schools which is a grassroots organization for public school parents and caregivers um building collective power to help fully and fairly fund our public schools. Um public schools are in a significant funding crisis over the years. You know that Ohio's share in funding has decreased while local share has increased. The current budget has short changed our public schools by nearly $3 billion from the fair funding formula that was proposed five years ago. Um they have not kept up with it. This is reflected in the 66 levies that were on the ballot last week across the state. Um we see that in school closures um and layoffs in big cities but also at Indian Valley with the closure of their project lead the
way program and the closing of Claymont intermediate school. At the same time the state has voted to fund almost $2.5 billion in uh to subsidi p subsidize private school vouchers. And I know the board passed a resolution back in January of 2020 um to say that they were against public funding for private school vouchers. Um thankfully last June a court ruled that it was unconstitutional. It's currently in appeals. Um so I'm encouraging the board tonight to take the next step um in the coalition against um the vouchers and join the lawsuit. Um I know you're all aware of it. It's $2 per student to get involved. Um the resolution lets our legislators know where the board stands. They still vote for the budget and this the funding cuts anyways. That leaves very little recourse that
any public district can do. And this law joining the lawsuit is one of them. Um, you can join a coalition of over 300 districts in Ohio to tell the legislators that the funding is not fair for our students. In addition to that, the White House recently announced their 2027 fiscal year budget, which cuts education another 7.3 billion across the country. They're proposing combining 17 programs together into one block grant and that includes idea funding for our kids with IEPs and 504s and the 21st century grant program which provides funding for our afterchool and summer programs which are a big deal here at Tusky Valley. Um the block grant would be at $2 billion which is 4.6 4.6 6 billion short of the total value of all the programs that they're merging into this block grant.
It also means there's less targeted funding which causes concern dividing that up for services. The IDA celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. When it was formed, Congress promised 40% of funding to the states. We are currently at 13% of funding. I'm also encouraging the board tonight to pass the safeguard our schools resolution which lets our delegation know that this funding is crucial to providing services for our students and we need to protect federal funding for public education and invests in the success of Ohio's students. And I do have copies of the resolution. Um it's uh it was put out by parents united for public schools pups. Um, but there is a nationwide initiative of other um, organizations that are trying to get school boards to sign on. So, >> that's what I have. >> Thank
you. Thank you for your information. And I'm glad you have a handout because I was just going to ask you to send me something just so we have to. >> So, thank you very much. >> And could you just I just want to clarify. >> You said safeguard our students. >> Safeguard our schools. Okay. Got it. >> See everything's on here. Yeah, it's just a resolution like you know that would go out to our um representatives at the federal level >> um >> to show that we don't want any more cuts to our public education dollars. >> Very good. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> All right. Item number 18, our next regular board of education meeting will be held on June 8th, 2026 at 6 PM here in the community boardroom. >> Can I
just add one thing? I'm sorry. Um the bidding of the wellness center will close on Thursday at 1 pm. Uh so we may have to call a special meeting just for you to approve that. So because we're on such a tight timeline with that grant that we have to start construction as soon as possible. Uh so once um Mr. Phillips and I have that those meetings and we know who that is. Um we'll try to get something out and schedule something. And >> you're saying this Thursday or next Thursday? >> This Thursday closes. Not that there will be a meeting this Thursday, but we'll have to figure out a date that works so we can another meeting. >> So yeah. So, just letting our public know if the board when the board meets again. >>
That's because of that. Okay. Very good. And then um we will quickly I know this has been a very long meeting. We will quickly wrap up with item number 19. Um just allowing our board members they went to um BLI is what we call it and they can share just a quick blurt please if you don't mind of what you learned and unfortunately I was not able to attend. So Mr. Overton we'll start with you. >> All right. Uh first of all I had a question. Uh, did we send anybody to boy state last year or grow state? Have we done that recently? >> I don't know that we have with the American Legion changes um >> because I think the baller American Legion used to and I think they they disbanded and I so
I don't think Mineral City did. No. >> Um, that was one of the sessions that I attended was they were just talking about it and promoting it and boy state is really dropped. Real estate is going really really well. They've got a lot. They were fully full this year. Um, but I'll pass that along to you. >> Okay. >> So, they basically said if your chapter has closed, you can reach out to any of them and they can any of them can get the papers, get anything you need, and and they can also transfer u scholarships and things like that. It doesn't have to be from your particular area. >> Okay, that's good to know. >> Nice. >> Just wanted to pass that along. And then one of the ones I went to that went
to several. One of the ones I went to that I kind of enjoyed. I thought it was unique was about, let me read the title here. Brain plus eyes as I probably equals keys to supercharging learning. Um, this basically was part of the neural vision institute and they partnered with uh the Princeton school or port uh I think it was Princeton Princeton City School uh but they partnered with the school and basically what it amounts to is they have a training program that's you don't have to have visual impairments for this program to work. It basically allowed them to um train their athletes, train their students that and and it gives exercises and allows them to focus and they all saw even within their athletics an increase in speed and just uh reaction time and
all that kind of stuff with for their athletes, but then also in their student side. uh just some of these activities that they were having the students do really trains the brain to prepare itself for learning and the visual ways of how you move your eyes and see things and it was really kind of neat and he had us do all different kinds of little things in the class um and realize how bad we all really were. >> Um but just something we might want to take a look at and see how that may affect and be a positive thing for some of our kids as well. >> Good. All right. Do you want to add anything? just mind for the the hot button topic that I think we all are here all touched on.
I went to a lot of finance and finance related uh things budgeting how are we looking at things what creative ways can we do so I think that's always going to be on the heels of everything that we're doing here uh in the near future and then uh piggybacking off of Mrs. Burrier's uh passion there uh was a lot of things with student governance and student voice and really getting students involved which I think we're seeing here at Tusky do all over the place. Um and I think it's only going to get better and I think we're we're going to continue to push um to have students more and more involved in all kinds of things. So uh lots of student involve involvement and uh governing things and lots of finance. Morgan. >> Um, so
I went to a lot of trainings about being a new board member, which I actually enjoyed a lot. Um, it was fun to listen into a lot of venting that happens around um, Ohio, which, um, we don't really have a lot here. We have a pretty, um, good board. We all listen and cooperate well, but it was interesting to hear some of the issues that other board members are having. Um, I went to some policy, um, trainings, which were pretty spot-on for what we do here. Nothing new or unusual that anybody else is doing. Um, I did go to a really cool AI training um that was through Rididgewood High School and they have an AI for you program. Um, and they have an app that the these seven girls created in their class and
they're selling it to a whole bunch of different districts and it teaches children in their district how to read and do literacy and um they're now using all the money they're raising for that for scholarships for them in college which I thought was really cool. So, they're all going to be set for college now because they're actually getting really popular. People are buying it. So, I thought that was really cool. Um, and it was really fun networking. A lot of the speakers were really good. There was a guy named Dave Capertton that was really funny. He was a good speaker. Um, he kind of just reminded you to um, have a purpose and when you show up um, and to try bring joy into all the kids' lives and have a connection with everybody, which
I thought was really important to remember. Um, and I just really enjoyed it. I like networking and meeting new people and hearing about other districts and I thought it was a really good training, a good conference. >> Can you show us your smile that he taught you? makes everyone happy. >> Yes. >> All right. I wish I say my name. >> Mrs. Green. >> Well, I would encourage Dr. Veransky to look his name up. Dave Kappa. I think he would be a great motivational speaker for our um beginning of school session. He he really was engaging in informational, but also um brought a lot of laughter. And I don't laugh very often. So, I thought he was really good. First, first of all, I've got a couple of things to cover, but congratulations to Amy
again. I'm just so proud of you. Um, it takes a lot of work to be a master board member, and Amy is second in our district ever to be a master board member, so kudos to you. I do want to mention Senate Bill 19, which is Andrew Brener's bill, which he has a lot of things in it. He lost his primary. So, right now, we're looking uh they have returned to legislation. and our legislation team that have been out to try to w run for uh primaries. They're back in. We're not sure if he's going to continue that or not, but I do want to point out to our school district because this is one thing we've been lobbying for. Um we are trying to get into that bill um that Ames Web will become
a test uh approved site. Um it was taken out and that's one that we rely on heavily and that we do very well with academically with our students. So, we do not feel like we should have to change when academically we're doing very well. I would like to also say we learned at the legal session the property tax does not have currently enough signatures. I don't know what the exact number is, but they do not have it at this point. And usually you have to get two to two and a half% more than what you need. And they don't even have the basic requirement numbers. Now, they can hold those people's signatures for another year and bring that forth next year, but if there's one person that does it wrong on the page, the whole
page is thrown out. That's why there's such a you have to have such a huge number of this. So, it doesn't look like, at least at this time in November, that that will be on the ballot. But that doesn't mean that we can't we shouldn't be working to fix the property tax issue. Um, I would encourage all our board members to go to the scholarship banquet tomorrow. It is um its 20th year since inception um and is really a great way to honor our academic students. And then finally, I want to encourage all of our board members to remember the aptitude test starts in June and we all need to take it. So, get that on your calendar. That's me. Oh, I didn't talk about anything about this, but I kudos to kudos to what
they said. Um I the financial one I did really enjoyed and um the essential law essentials rules risk and realities and we use some of those practices tonight just to improve. So I appreciate that >> and I'm sure we do do work sessions. So we will look at all of those things that everybody learned. So thank you. >> All right. At this time, I'm going to ask for a motion to go into executive session for the purpose of considering the employment and compensation of a public employer official concerning their compensation or other terms or conditions of their employment. >> Second. >> Um, call the roll, please. >> Mr. Fischer, >> yes. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mrs. Totty, >> yes. >> Mr. Ber, >> yes. No official action. >>
And at this time, there's going to be no official action, so you guys are free to go. We will just exit out and be done. >> Yes. Sorry, honey. It's okay. It's okay.
